A spare room located in annex to the Muggle Studies Classroom has been refurbished and renovated to allow muggle technology devices to work. Note: the technology found within this room will only work in this room of the castle.
All the devices are labeled and fully operative and functional, though many of them are bulky and outdated due to the nature of most of them being donated, given lack of adequate funding for newer items. Devices found within the center include several large computer workstations, old flip cellphones (the brick-kind ;D), corded and cordless phones of various styles. The phones all are operative to make local Britain and Scotland outgoing calls. There's also stereos and CD walkmans to listen to music, as you work on homework or study, if you'd like.
All the technology found within this room is open for both students and staff to play with, provided that you have signed a waiver agreement with the Muggle Studies Professor. Anyone caught using the equipment without signing the waiver is subject to punishment, up to and including banishment from the center - permanently.
Olly allowed her eyes to rest on the other girl for a second longer before returning them to the CD assortment before her. It wasn't that big or versatile but it was fine. She knew most of the artists, however, wasn't exactly too thrilled by any of the CDs she'd so far encountered. None of them were worth listening to. And yes, she was also looking for The Beatles, of course. She wasn't a bad person. Not always anyway.
Her favorite? At this Olly just nodded slowly to acknowledge that she'd heard the other Hufflepuff. "Yeah?" And then she went on about the individual members, or well, two of them anyway. The main ones. Okay, Ringo too. But people tended to forget about George Harrison. Or at least that's what her dad used to say. He was the main reason she even knew who the Beatles were. Plus, background information on the members.
Did she? The fifth year just shrugged vaguely in reply and was about to open her mouth to say something when..."Here." She'd come across a quite old and to be honest quite gross-looking version of the Let It Be album. Olly held up the CD with two fingers only, turning slightly so she was facing the other girl. She was being terribly social today, wasn't she? What was up with that?
Still looking, still looking. We're not very good at finding this sort of things, are weeeeee? ANDTHENSOMETHINGWASFOUND! But, it was the one with 'Yellow Submarine'. You ARE kidding. Really, that was like the only album she avoided for reasons and it was the one she managed to find. Does her uncle have CDs? Because maybe she could ask him to owl her some or something. ACTUALLY, she will be going to Hadley later, this was impossible. They were in the UK, and there was only one CD from the Beatles here? Unacceptable.
Yeah? YES. "Music-wise, anyway," because she's only fifteen years old, that whole "give peace a chance" thing wasn't on her mind. YET. Shrug. So, did the girl like them or not? She may have forgotten to answer... or she didn't like them. All alright for Lottie, really.
ANDTHENSHEFOUND... Oh. Well, that was something. Erm... of course they were old, this is the year 2081. So, Lottie sort of took the CD and sighed, softly, "Why, thank you." For the help. It's not like this was her fault, anyway. Will Lottie play it, though? Probably. It was't related to yellow stuff, sooooo...
..."What's wrong with 'Olivia', by the way?" She'd heard the name at the Sorting, and she thought it was amusing that she told others to call her Olly. The entire opposite of her brother, "I call my brother 'Ollie', yet that's not his name... he'd rather I'd call him by his real name, though." That was a question in disguise, Miss Olivia Interesting Person.

Nigel heard the same clicking that Schuyler did and saw out of the corner of his eye that it was the Headmistress. Was that a cellphone she was playing with. And even Nigel could tell if was off. The Prefect walked with Schuyler over to the cellphone and Headmistress.
"Hello Headmistress."
Best not tell her the phone was not on.

"Hello? Hello?" The redhead pretended to gab into the phone. "Oh yeah hi oops um sorry, WRONG NUMBER." She had been holding the phone both upside down and backwards to her ear, though she didn't know that, and hung it up by slamming it down onto the table.
It was a miracle she hadn't broken it yet.
Why were they staring at her though? Wasn't that how one hung up a phone? "Be my guest," the redhead replied stiffly, tossing the phone to the Gryffindor girl. She gave the prefect a nod of greeting too.
Okay what was this, some kind of staring party? Bunz had come here to learn something make a very important fellytone call, people, she had not come here to be gawked at!
"Hello." She eyed the little girl with the big eyes. Why did she look so familiar... maybe Bunz had had a doll like her when she was a child... yes, that was it.
Oh, so he WOULD take her up on that proposal? Schuyler would not forget that. Yes, she had a fine selection to show him indeed. But, anyway.... the headmistress. Yeah. NO idea what she was doing. This earned her an amused grin that the woman may or may not have caught. After all, the phone was upside down and faced away from her. The slam on the table was just icing on the cake, so to speak. Schuyler grinned over at Nigel and raised her eyebrows. But she awaited the Headmistress' response, studying her red locks as she did so. She did have very nice hair. Pantene commercial-worthy, actually. But her attention returned to the cellular phone when suddenly the lady was tossing it her way.
Schuyler caught it deftly. She pressed and held the green phone icon button thing. That was 'on,' right? Yes. Yes, it was. Because the screen suddenly flashed brightly. She then dialed in some random number, the first number to come to her head. After waiting until the younger, bright-eyed girl (Sophie) was finished speaking, Schuyler offered the mobile phone to Headmistress Truebridge. "I believe the phone's for you, professor." It was urgent.

... At least he could move onto her questions? "Yeah! I thought it would be interesting to take a look around," And it did turn out to be interesting! Just look at all this stuff! He grinned at the girl before looking over at her computer screen. Sims, eh? "Yeah, I've heard of it!" he said, nodding, "But... I've never played it before. Erm... what do you do?" There seemed to be characters and... that's all he knew about it.
What was he up to? Grey-blue eyes snapped back towards the blonde girl. "Erm... nothing fun... just trying not to study," ... BLINK. MAYBE he shouldn't have said that to, you know, his OLDER SISTER PERSON. He cleared his throat before continuing, "Yeah, I can! But... I think Dad's at work and he might be busy so... I might wait a bit before calling him," That sounded like a plan. "Do you want to call your grandparents...?" He even held out the phone towards her, just in case.
Minerva laughed and shook her head. "No. no you are fine Alec. It was no big deal really. I was just paying more attention to the game then I was to who was near me is all." No big deal at all, she was fine and it was comical that she had lost focus with the world around her. Exactly what she wanted to happen happened.
Minerva's eyes scanned the room as he said look around, "It's probably fun to watch the ones that have never seen this stuff before." Not that she was going to mock them or anything, she just remembered how comical it probably was for people to see her for the first time with magic around here. Same thing really. Looking back at the game she pointed to the screen. "Well you make your character like I did here." Pointing to the girl walking around. "Then you have them do different things. See the little icon coming up above her head? It will show what she might be thinking or needing. So I just entertain her with TV or outside stuff, feed her, make her go to sleep or work. It's pretty simple, but fun." Plus this was the older version so not much elaboration.
Minerva gave him a joking eye, "Not studying?" She tapped her fingers on the table and then smiled, "Me too actually." Laughing a little bit, but truth be told with all her extra time now the Ethan wasn't around to distract her she had been studying a lot so she was allowed a break. Minerva glanced at the phones a small frown crossing her lips. "Well I bet he would love hearing from you." because who wouldn't love hearing from Alec.. "Well yes I would love to talk to them, but it's only local calls for here and the States is certainly not local so.. " not going to happen on these phone. "I was actually wondering if my cell would work here or not, probably not though. I have my international plan they pay for so I can call them when I have places that it works." Which was never many and they just never understood that. Some of the downfalls to muggle grandparents.

The entire opposite of her brother, "I call my brother 'Ollie', yet that's not his name... he'd rather I'd call him by his real name, though." Music wise? Olly threw the other girl a confused look for a brief second. Well, yes, that was what they were talking about, right? What other reason would be to like them? Or what other way was there to like them? They had all been quite handsome too, yes, but they were, you know, old. And very much dead. So unless they'd somehow come back as ghosts there was really no reason to discuss that about The Beatles. So, music wise.
But back to the CD. Take it please, it's gross.
Olly wasn't exaclty somebody to be too fussy about used things but this, this was OLD. And it looked like it had been passed down a couple of generations AND had spent quite some time in various secondhand shops. So she WAS kind of glad when the other Hufflepuff took the CD from her. Simply nodding in reply to her words, she briefly looked back at the stack of CDs in case there were any that were of interest to her.
Until the other girl spoke again.
Okay, that question earned her narrowed eyes from Olly. She briefly considered not answer at all because even in her eyes asking her something like this SO out of the blue was a little rude. In the end, and after a moment of silence she did however answer. Albeit vaguely. "I don't like it." There. That was probably a very obvious answer but still accurate. "What's your name again?" Because she wasn't ENTIRELY sure and since they were talking about names and all. Olly completely ignored the little story about her brother. Because, err, sorry, did she care about the girl's brother?

... Oh! So it was all okay? GOOD. "Oh... Awesome!" he said, grinning at her. The not paying attention thing made him nod. "Understandable, yeah." Because he wouldn't have been able to pay attention to his surroundings either.
Fun to watch... Alec looked around as well, trying to find someone who could, possibly, fit into this example that Minnie was talking about. A couple of seconds later, though, he looked back at her. "Have you seen anyone being confused by the new technology?" Heh. New. None of this stuff looked new but it was probably new to them. But there was no need to think about that, yeah? His eyes flicked over towards the female character on the screen when Minnie launched into her explanation. "So... you can just make any character? Whether they're like you or not and... and..." Pause. "They can interact with other people's characters too?" At this he looked back at the older girl, his eyebrows slightly furrowed in confusion. She didn't mind all these questions, yeah?
The seventeen year old reached up a hand and ruffled his hair, a sheepish expression spreading across his face. "It's not an OWLs or NEWTs year?" ... And then he chuckled. Because Minnie hadn't been studying either! At least... not NOW. "Are you scared, by the way? For the NEWTs?" There was no way he was going to mention anything about this being Minnie's last year because he liked having her here. Just like he liked the way she had said that his Dad would like to hear from him. "I hope so!" GRIN. ... Oh! That's right! She lived in the States! And here Alec thought that she secretly lived in Germany with Ethan. "So... you could call them from your phone as long as you're in this room? Do you think that'll work?"And could he say hey to them?

It was his turn to raise his eyebrows at her question and he stole a quick glance the cellphone before looking back at the Slytherin. She had absolutely no clue about muggle stuff, did she?
Oh this was going to be fun.
Michael picked up the phone again. "This." he said with a grin. "Is a metal detector. You press the numbers for the type of metal you want to detect. So like gold is number one, silver is two and so on. You also have to run it over a person's body." He looked around and lowered his voice a little. "See this button here." He pointed to the hashtag. "Press that and it acts like a magnet."
He held the phone out to her. "Try it out on the Headmistress." He gave her a challenging look. Would she dare?
Well, would you lookatthat! There were some questions that Michael had no trouble answering.
Rhodes quickly stuffed the piece of parchment she had been holding back into her pocket and placed the quill behind her ear once he grabbed the muggle thing again. Of course, she hadn't forgotten the reason why she was there, stalking observing him, but she figured there would be other times to find out what he ate that made him stink. And maybe those other times wouldn't require her to even talk to him. She knew better to hide under the table during meals now.
But back to the thing in Michael's hand. Rhodes could've sworn she had seen something like that before, but she couldn't remember where and she didn't remember them being so big. Hmm. It didn't stop her, though, from leaning in even closer as Michael began to explain what it was, and as if she knew ALL along it was a metal detector like he said it was, she began to nod her head. "OH, right! I have seen those before!" The muggles used them, duh. "People hold them up to their ears to see if there is gold inside of them! Gammie is always asking Gamps why he has his finger in his ear and if he is digging for gold. She should get him one of them!" So that way, he wouldn't have to disgust them all at the dinner table anymore.
They would just leave out the part of it being a muggle thing.
She didn't even bother to pay attention to the part about it being a magnet, since that wasn't even the amazing part of it, and instead, she took it right out of Michael's hand and pressed it, right against the side of his head. "Hold on." She'd try it out on the Headmistress, she would. "First I have to try it out on you."
Because she was SURE there was some type of metal in Michael Toussaint's head.

Just as he had thought, Rhodes knew absolutely nothing about muggles. He had to stop himself from laughing out loud as she told him that she had seen the muggle cellphone before. Well she got the part about holding it up to your ear correctly but it wasn't to see if there was gold in there. "You should totally get your Gammie one." He'd love to be a fly on the wall to see that play out.
He didn't even have time to laugh at the thought of it when she snatched the phone right out of his hands. "Hey!" Now it was smooshed up against his ear.
WAIT!!
WHAT??
Nooooooooooooo! Michael ducked out from her hand and shook his head. "I'm not wearing anything made of metal. So it's not going to work. See." he said pointing to the phone. "It's not making any sounds."
Merlin! Couldn't she just do as he asked?
"It works better on females. They're always wearing some form of jewellery." The Headmistress is right there.

Confused looks? Lottie paid no attention to those. To her, it seemed more... suspicious and interesting just how quickly the girl wanted to have the CD taken from her. YES, we know it looks terrible, and it probably skips, but did Lottie care? No, she didn't. It was music... if she ever played it, that is.
Words with Hadley, coming soon.
No, it wasn't rude, it was just a question, and she wasn't looking for explanations or details of any sort, she was just wondering. It was Oleander's complete opposite. Yet there was something about her that reminded her of her brother. Maybe it was the narrowed eyes. HAHA! Okay, no, seriously, that was kind of obvious, hence why Lottie asked what was wrong with her name, "So it's just Olly, then," she wasn't asking, she was merely stating this. As far as her name goeeees... Lotus or Lottie? "I'm Lotus." No Lottie yet, Olly.

Sophie managed a small smile then said, "I'm Sophie Newell. It's good to finally meet you, Headmistress Truebridge." She should just keep it short and sweet. Apparently, this woman knew her mom, dad, aunt, and...probably several others. Maybe the last name would ring a bell? Or maybe the woman was just too engrossed in figuring out all this technology to notice.
"Sophie Newell," Anastasia repeated, not at all sure why that name sounded so familiar. Good to finally meet her? Good Merlin, how long had the girl been attending this school that Truebridge hadn't at least crossed her path once?
"You're a first year, aren't you?" she eyed the doll-like child, keen on figuring out who she was.

Nigel was just getting over the fact that the Headmistress was here looking at muggle technology. It would be like seeing a teacher outside of the school. But, Okay. This was pretty funny. Schuyler got the Headmistress to take a random phone call. Comedy Gold. Nigel glanced at Schuyler and rolled his eyes. Now how to say this without being impolite.
"Hmm..Headmistress. You hold it to your ear and talk normally into it. At least that is how Nigel thought you should do it.
Though now the question was. Who did Schuyler actually call and would they think this was a prank call. Nigel knew he would have. Nigel turned his head and whispered to Schuyler. "Should we let her continue the phone call or end it?"

Do you think that'll work?"And could he say hey to them?
Minerva laughed, “I did see someone holding the phone upside down, but they’ll learn just like I had to learn about magic and flying brooms.” She shrugged, but still smiled. “Do you remember a few summers ago me talking about the muggle challenge I gave Ethan?” She laughed thinking about it. “Well of course he did great, but some moments were a little more comical than others. Having him call Belle on my phone was probably one of the better ones.” She understood the challenges of not knowing though so she did feel bad for laughing at the time, but it was funny to watch. He had gotten so good with her muggle things now though even had his own Ipod that with the help of her grandparents had bought him.
Minerva looked back at the game realizing her character wasn’t too thrilled giving the frustrated motions since she had been neglecting the game talking to Alec. “Pretty much, well at least as much as this version of the game will allow. They have specific things to pick from when choosing and stuff.” She moved the mouse to click on a few actions and the little person went to a phone, “See she is calling people to come over.” Pointing the a few other people on the screen Min smiled, “and here they come to interact.” Easy as that really even though looking at the status of her character she realized she wasn’t taking good care of her like she should. “Want to try? I can save my game so you can make someone.” It could be fun to watch Alec play as well.
Minerva knew what he meant about not a OWL or NEWT year. Unfortunately her break year was a bit on the drama crazy side last term so not really enjoyable. Then the big question was asked and Minerva found herself shrugging. She hadn’t been all the nervous for the exams. She wasn’t sure if it was just because it was still early or because with no Ethan she had so much study time that she was feeling back to her confident in classes self. “I’m not scared really. They are just test, right? I’ll be fine.” Which she wasn’t lying when she said she’d be fine, she really felt she would be. “How do you feel about classes so far? Anything you need help in? You know I’m always around if you need anything.” He knew that by now though.
Stopping and looking towards the phones again she wasn’t really sure how this room really was set up. “I don’t know if my phone would work or not. Even if it turns on because we are in here, I’m not sure magic would give it service, but maybe.” She thought about this for a few moments. “Maybe it’s something I could ask Hadley about.” She smiled at the thought of being able to talk to them more while she was here. “You know if it doesn’t work maybe I’ll just send them an email or maybe one of these computers has a video chat.” They were old, but they could still have cameras and things. It was a thought at least.

Well, at least Sophie knew the woman was following along and had actually caught her name. She nodded. "I am," she said, answering the question about being a first year. Merlin, this woman was really good if she was able to know those sorts of things about the entire student body. Sophie had only been here a few weeks, but she didn't think she'd ever figure out everybody in Slytherin, much less everybody in the whole school.
So, umm... "I have a lot of family who went to school here," she said, "and technically two that still do. I've known you by name for a while, but I wanted to come meet you for myself." Especially if the woman might eat her alive, which Sophie was now sure she likely wouldn't do.
Olly waited. And waited. And waited. Waited for the other girl to ask her why she didn't like her name. Everyone always did. Only the question never came. Which earned the fellow Hufflepuff a curious look, her eyes softening slightly. That was new. That was a welcome reaction. Or not-reaction really.
There, so she HAD been right about this girl.
Simply nodding when she stated that it was 'just Olly', she regarded the other girl for a moment in silence. "Lotus." Right. She was pretty sure she'd not heard anyone call her that. It was an interesting name though. "You're a year below me yeah?" She was pretty sure. Well she knew that she wasn't in her year since they weren't sharing a dorm and all. Logic yeah?

Because we don't really care. So, just Olly.
Yes, that was her name, and she wasn't going to introduce herself as Lottie. Not yet, just Olly. They were at a disadvantage, see? Because Lottie knew that Olly's name was Olivia, yet Olly didn't know Lotus also went by Lottie. It's of no importance anyway, so who cares? Maaaaybe one day, Olly will know this. Sooner than later considering they did share a Common Room. And Tobias can call her Lottie.
"If that makes you a fifth year, then yes." This whole 'below' business, she clearly didn't like. NO.

Huh. Had she hit a nerve there? Olly gave the other girl a curious look for a second before nodding slowly. "Mhm." Meaning yes she was a fifth year. Great small talk they were having right now. Really great.
Lotus also wasn't a girl of many words. Olly liked that about her. She hated people who just talked for the sake of talking. Her eyes lazily ran over the CDs in front of her again without actually seeing them or reading the artists. She wasn't quite sure what she'd come here for. So in the end she just shrugged to herself and focused her attention back on Lotus. "So you have a player then?" For the CD obviously.
