The Hogwarts staff, some of whom may be attending their first feast ever, are already seated when you enter the start of term feast. Their traditional place is at a long table stretching across a raised dais at the back of the Great Hall. The usual Hogwarts crest hanging behind them has returned, even if it is a little frayed looking. The staff are also no longer using the drab paper plates and plastic sporks from last term; fortunately, the Hogwarts Board of Governors found the school's real silver silverware, heavy plates and goblets, and have restocked the school's house and staff tables with them.
Feel free to come up and greet the School staff after the Headmistress has given her speech... if you must. Remember your manners, children. Your professors like to have a quiet dinner too.

It wasn't that Josephina was running late. It was simply a matter of everyone else running early. That was obviously the only explanation for why it seemed as if half the staff (or more) had already arrived. No matter though, because at least she was dressed reasonably for the opening feast.
As she approached the staff dais though, walking down the aisle by the Hufflepuff table, she smiled warmly at the familiar faces she recognized, noticing one distinct face missing. A face she saw sitting up there at the staff table. What in the name of Wenlock was Minerva doing in the HEALER'S seat?!? Was the girl still loony after last term? Why did she give her a badge over the summer anyway?! Perhaps she was the loony one.
"Miss Wheatborn. I believe you were given a Prefect badge over the summer, NOT a Healer's license." So in other words, why were you sitting there, in the Healer's seat.
Speaking of people sitting in other people's seats.... there was a man, sitting in her seat. Only it wasn't her seat anymore, but it had been for 10 years. Was HE her replacement? Either way, it was her seat. She wanted it. Even if she had to drag down that chair down to its new location next to Hecate, she wanted that chair. Tilting her head at him, she studied him a moment; he didn't look one for numbers, but what did she know? "Excuse me," she said, tapping the man on his shoulder. "Would you mind ... err..." okay this was awkward. "Can I have my chair please?" And how rude; she didn't even introduce herself. "Sorry, I'm Josephina Hadley. Arithmahggle -- *ahem* I mean, Muggle Studies." That felt weird.
"Oh and evening, Abraham. And Airey." Ooh, what's that poster Airey was passing around? OH MY! He still hadn't found his pet rock?! Yes, she remembered that game in the stands. But couldn't he just find a new rock and make it 'Pebbles 2'? Like what was the difference?

Everyone was really starting to come through the great oak doors now. Annie was just staring around the hall with a pleasant enough expression when... BAM! a thick wad of.....posters?????....attacked her plate. Anastasia glared down at the stack for disrupting her peace and looked up only when she heard someone address her by name.
"Flamsteed," she returned the greeting coolly. So he was the one responsible for besmirching her name in his 'lost rock' quest. Hmmph. It seemed to Annie that the only lost rock here was Flamsteed's missing brain.
Was he in on this Wheatborn prank? She noticed how he called the prefect Healer Wheatborn, instead of Miss Wheatborn...hmm hmm hmmmmmmmm....
There she was again, actually ANSWERING to the title of Healer! "MISS Wheatborn," Anastasia called down the table quite loudly, "I don't recall hiring a second healer this summer." She gave the girl a pointed LOOK that said she didn't BELONG up here, obviously. Had it been a mistake to prefect the girl?
And there was the new History of Magic professor. Oh no, was he friends with Flamsteed? That wouldn't do. At least the last one, volunteer that he was, wasn't buddy-buddy with the loser teachers...
"Mr. Dursley, I'm glad to see you made it safely to the school," the Headmistress called out a greeting nonetheless and sent the new hire a stiff nod down the table.
Bellaire had the right idea, all right, glaring at all those man!boys down the way. Annie sent her a nod of approval, followed by a 'can you believe what we have to deal with??' eyeroll. Sophia would understand.
"Evening, Leobald," the Headmistress returned Leobald's greeting with a slight sight to herself. The term hadn't even officially started and already she was reprimanding her own staff. Not the librarian, though, he was seldom a problem.

O_o
Okay that look was not something Minerva was ready for. She squirmed a bit under the look and looked to the table for a second. Panic hitting her that this probably wasn't the smartest idea the prefect had ever thought of, but she took a deep breath and looked back up smiling, even laughing a bit. "Oh I know you didn't Ma'am. I'm not up here to be another healer even though I am planning on becoming one as we discussed a bit last term. " Remember that little conversation, Min cringed thinking about it herself. She was on that stupid ice cream at that point.
Anyway why on earth was she up there of that's right, bigger smile. "I am up here, because Healer Tillstorm wanted to know about my summer activities since she so nicely helped put I mean get me into St. Mungos for help with my career." or put her in because of the stress of a certain detention, but if the Headmistress wanted to ask further questions about that she would wait until Tillstorm.. maybe even Lafay was around. Keeping her cool smile on her face she kept eye contact with the headmistress. Crazy Min was gone, we think she knew exactly what she was doing. "I will head back to my place as soon as I speak briefly to Healer Tillstorm she won't mind at all." Until the wacka doodle showed up screaming at her and then well Min would figure that out when the time came. Maybe she should tell the headmistress about certain events last term, maybe that could be the leverage she would need to keep from getting her head taken off.
Just as she had answered the headmistress she heard another voice and turned her head to see Professor Hadley. Professor Hadley got a huge smile. It was great seeing her head of house whom she looked up to for so many terms now. She felt she could breath a little easier seeing the woman standing there. That meant she didn't not leave the school for something different over the summer like a few of her other favorites had in the past. "Oh yes I was given that badge over the summer." She smiled and showed her badge on her robes. "and I would like to thank you and the Headmistress for giving me this opportunity to lead our fellow badgers along side of Kitty.. I mean Wade. We won't let either of you down." She blushed saying Kitty, maybe she should stop using his nickname so much.
"As I was telling the headmistress ma'am Healer Tillstorm will be expecting me up here. She will want to know a few things about my summer since she was one of the biggest reasons for them." Yes that was her story for now. When Tillstorm came, she would have to wait and see what happened. Taking a deep breath the seventh year was starting to feel a bit sick with nerves that weren't there before. Her eyes glanced to Lafay's seat. As long as firing loving dragon lady stay away she felt she could keep pulling this off.

After the necessary formalities were through, she was pleased that she seemed to be having an actual conversation with someone. She gave the man a smile. "Good to hear! I will be taking you up on that sometime, though probably not for a week or so. I will definitely want to get into the swing of things and past the tryouts phase before I take too much time for pleasure reading." Or at least that was how she was guessing things would go. "Genres? I'm up for anything, really. I just love the discovery involved in delving into a good book. Honestly, even a textbook has been known to hold my interest." Nerdy? Perhaps. But then again, that was why she had been Sorted into Ravenclaw.

Good. Her new boss seemed pleased. Tiara made a mental note that compliments on Annie's outfits were a good idea.
Was that so? "Ah, so she is a student, then?" Sure enough, that was a Prefect badge on her chest. Interesting... Apparently students were allowed at the staff table now? Things had definitely changed since her tenure here. She hadn't pegged the Headmistress for the type that would institute or uphold such an arrangement.
And even more new staff members were joining them. Hopefully, a little quieter and weren't too animated with their greetings like what she just witnessed, but, they are who they are! She would appreciate the fun nature of it.
Oh! Magical creatures she'd said? Or...right?
"A pleasure to meet you." she spoke kindly with a smile to match, reaching out to shake the woman's hand. "Medea Romanos. Defense Against the Dark Arts."
"Medea," Melanie smiled, repeating the woman's name to help commit it to memory. "How long have you been teaching here?" Of course, what Melanie notices most was Medea's accent, and she was just dying to know where she was from. But Melanie thought better of it, as that could come across as a rather personal question. Perhaps the question should be saved for later in the year, when they were better equated.

As he made his way up to the staff dais, Piers' eyes started at the far end, glancing at each face already there. He didn't take too long to look at them, though. He came around and slid into his seat before deciding introductions were nice. He turned to his right and extended his hand as he spoke, "Good evening. I'm..."
... hold uuuuuuup. Squint. He knew her! "Melanie?"
Oh dear. This was potentially awkward.
Melanie only realized who was sitting down between Medea and herself a moment before the man did. Of course, she had know doubt of who it was - she'd recognize that face anywhere - but it was that she was recognizing it here that had her blinking for a few seconds, speechless.
"Piers!" she finally uttered, "I'm sorry...I'm surprised to see you here!"Why was he here? Obviously teaching, but...she didn't know he was a professor here. No one told her of this!

He had forgotten his gift bag of lint rollers in his haste to put up posters, so he would have to bring those to her office later.
Assuming he worked up the nerve to do so.
"Pleasure to make your acquaintance."
And then a new person showed up. A man. Who knew the new professor. Two new people who knew each other and were just oozing awkward. Right, third wheel Airey was just going to go back to petting his poster now....
Melanie immediate got a nervous vibe from the man. He didn't even meet her eyes right away. Then, averted his eyes almost immediately after. Maybe it was best not to look him in the eye, either? Maybe that only made him more nervous? She shifted her gaze to further down the table. "Airey. Pleasure to meet you, too." She still kept her smile on, letting her face fall would surely be more rude than avoiding eye contact.
Although she would enjoy continuing conversation with the man, she felt it might be best to take it slow with this one and let him make the first moves. She'll give him a few minutes, let things settle more, and then attempt to strike up conversation once the feast began, if he hadn't already.

As she was looking down the table while interacting with Airey, the wave from that man wasn't missed. Instead, it was returned. She didn't know who he was, like most of the professors here, but being friendly couldn't hurt. Besides, this man would be her colleague for the rest of the year, there was no other way to treat him. Greetings would have to come at a later time, however.
....
There seemed to be a disturbance down the table a bit. Although it didn't feel like it, it occurred to Melanie that it was her place to intervene, should her assistance be necessary. She leaned forward a bit to better see whaat was going on between the Headmistress (who got a smile and nod) and who appeared to be a student. 'Miss Wheatborn'. That was a name and face to keep in mind.

"Hey there....Sticky Nicky," he grinned, a glimpse of momentary happiness flashing across his face as he wiggled his fingers towards the new Groundskeeper. Hopefully the man wouldn't find himself in too many sticky situations this coming term. Hogwarts could sure use a Groundskeeper to last longer than a term - if what the Daily Prophet said held any merit.
Hands reached out to grab the goblet filled with water in front of him, the new Groundskeeper took a sip from the water and carefully watched the students in the Great Hall. He recognized a few of them from the boat trip to the castle. He brought the goblet back to his mouth when he froze. Sticky Nicky... The goblet in his hand was shaking a little from the tight grip he had on it and he quickly placed it down on the table because he was afraid he would break it. He had not heard that nickname in what? More than 10 years?
Turning his head, Nicks dark brown eyes narrowed dangerously at Flamsteed the moment he realized who had said it. Oh yes he knew the man. Fellow Gryffindor and a total weird nerd. The type of person Nick had not wanted to be seen with while at school. Especially not Airey and that high pitched mouse voice friend of him....who was..wait...he was hired as a Professor here as well?! Honestly!
"Flamsteed" he greeted cooly, eyes not leaving the man. He wanted nothing more than grab him by the collar of his suit and shake him violently. It had been HIS fault that Nick had gotten that nickname after that potion class in his seventh year. His reputation had been ruined in just a few seconds. Although there had been no proof that Airey HAD done it. Nick liked to give him the blame because someone had to. "What you got there?" he asked as he pointed at the posters. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer, is what the muggles would say.

Eyes....he felt eyes on him. For a second he thought it had been that brat Flamsteed but it turned out to be a very young looking woman and if it hadn't been for the school robes and the Hufflepuff Prefect badge she was wearing he would have believed she was a new staff member as well. The smile made him uncomfortable eventhough he was used to smiles being casted his way 'cause hey, he was a looker if he said so himself *COUGH EGO ALERT COUGH* anyways, the smile made him a bit uncomfortable because it seemed like she knew something and it bothered the man.
The others would deal with her right? Cause his attention went to an old man with a cane at this moment. Without thinking, Nick stood up from his chair when the man said a hello and a promise to chat later and waited till the old man had taken his seat and the Groundskeeper lowered himself down again as well.

He had no idea she...taught here? Well, she could certainly say the same about him. He hardly seemed like the teacher type, more of the student. "It has." Certainly. And after a quick calculation in her head, Melanie was reminded of just how long.
And felt quite old.
"Yes, it is," she said, swiftly accepting this conversation. "But how long have you been here? I...had no idea." Not that she would know, it wasn't as if they exchanged owls or anything. But...a friend of a friend might have known...perhaps...

Much like Melanie, Pierson did a mental calculation of the last time they were here in this room together... Oh wow. That dated him. He was old. They were old. Although, not as old as some of the other professors at the table. Heh.
Wait... that professor... was too young to be a professor. Was that a student sitting up here?
Anyway...
"This is my first here year, too. Teaching, that is." Which is what they were talking about. "I did some teaching at the Wizarding University in Athens recently, though." Those were good times, up until recently. But, uhh... he didn't mention that.

Seren had hurried into the Great Hall with purpose, her wavy blonde locks bouncing behind her. After a quick stop at the Gryffindor table (ensuring the students survived the holidays and were seated and behaving), Seren proceeded to the dais and took to her seat, offering a frantic wave to her colleagues.
Yes, there were new faces in her immediate vicinity, but she was more concerned about her timing. Had she missed the speech? She certainly hoped not, that would surely equate to... bad karma or something. Yes?

If looks could kill he was positive that he would be dead already. Averting his eyes from the Transfiguration professor and Headmistress, the astronomer's attention was back on his poster. Was it just him...or did it seem like Bellaire was surprised to see that he had a pet rock? He had only brought her to see the gargoyle show the students performed last term. HOW COULD SHE FORGET?!
Oh, right. Probably in the same way that the Headmistress forgot she was rock sitting. SIGH.

Her blue eyes looked up at him as he said Healer Wheatborn. Healer Wheatborn she really was liking the sound of that. Big smiled for Flamsteed, "Never to early to catch your dreams sir. I think you were the one to tell me not to give up." That was him last term wasn't it. Maybe all his pranks last term inspired her to be sitting here right now. Even though she was still not happy about the Sneezing issue, but whatever over now.
Just to show she was over it she looked back over at him, "Umm Professor Flamsteed if you would like. I could take some of those posters and put up on the badger board and around the common room so students can keep their eyes open for pebbles." She had lost her pets a time or two so she knew how it felt to have a missing pet.
Airey chuckled and, if it have not been uncool, would have probably blushed a little at her words. He wasn't exactly qualified to give motivation talks to students. Astronauts in training and NASA engineers? He could do that in his sleep. But teenagers? Teenagers who were as unpredictable as a hippogriff in a china cabinet? Yeah, that was an entirely different can of flobberworms. "Just as long as you do go about wishing on meteors," he said with an awkward wink.
He sucked in his lower lip quite suddenly to prevent it from quivering. "Oh holy comets, thank you Healer Miss Wheatborn. I would greatly appreciate it." And he levitated a small stack of posters towards her.

He didn't expect the new professor to turn his attention back to him, but probably it was inevitable since he was sitting RIGHT there. Botros smiled and patted his chest, close to the heart, in reply. "Abraham Botros, ancient professor for ancient runes. It's exciting to meet you, Mr. Dursley." The old man's eyed then went up to the Astronomy professor giving him an amused look. Having a reunion with a friend in Hogwarts must be thrilling!

as he felt a hand tug him down onto the empty chair between Airey, and the Old Man he had only just introduced himself to. "Suppose I can sit here." Tiberius adjusted himself in the chair, only to just hear a loud clang and look across the table at the Dark Haired Lady fumble with a fork...his eyes of course moved along to the Blondie again, and he jerked his head back. "Leave? No...hey whose the blonde one sitting next to the Clumsy Fork Flinger?" Flams would help him out here. Well now that he was sitting, although he sort of felt off from where he was. he could continue his conversation with the Old Man beside him. "Pleasure to meet you er...Abraham." That felt weird speaking to the Ancient Ancient Runes Professor with his first name. Sure they were clearly colleages but the Old Man was clearly..what 40 years his senior?...Hmmm on the other hand there was someone else at the table who looked to be 20 some years younger than him. The Headmistress really wanted to diversify the staff didn't she. "Ancient, no. You don't look a wrinkle past 60." Tiberius tried his hand at the complement. He felt as if he had missed something. OH! Abraham had given his subject he taught, so should he! "I'll be taking up History of Magic." He leaned over to the man and spoke in a low voice, his hearing had not gone entirely yet Tiberius hoped. "Oh FYI Pebbles is a girl rock.".He gave Airey a concerned look, then sat straight up.
He let off a long yawn and looked out at the Tables and specifically at the Hufflepuff one. The young boy he met on the train had been sorted into that house. he'll need to return his book that he found for him in a bit.
"You suppose right," he muttered back. Seriously man, don't leave him over here at this end of the table. It was like his worst nightmare. Two ladies who he felt...something for. All that was confusing and the matter only became more complicated when he thought back on last term and, well, he had gone from never being kissed to kissing two women in the same year. There there was...whatever was going on with the two new professors - the two that were making him feel like Mr. Third-Wheel Flamsteed. Old Man River too. Generation gaps frightened the man and there were SEVERAL generation gaps between them.
Several.
He was slightly terrified of the Arithmancy professor too. She HAD kissed the Runes Professor at the end of term feast last term. He didn't want to see that again. Or have her be his third kiss. Cringe.
He was brought back out of his thoughts about....er....stuff...when Tiberius Kirk spoke to him again. "Oh, you mean Calista?" he asked, squinting towards the blonde and feeling the heat rising in his face. "She is the Divination professor and next to her is Medea, Defense Against the Dark Arts professor." Squirm squirm squirm. Fidget fidget fidget.
He was still fidgeting when the Ancient Runes professor spoke again, but before he could thank the old man .... he insulted Pebbles. She was CLEARLY a girl rock! CLEARLY! Thankfully his best mate had his back, so the astronomer could go back to stroking his poster lovenly.

Hope. What an illogical feeling, but it was all the man had left when it came to his pet rock. "Yes, well, um, thank you, Leobald. I would greatly appreciate any effort you are willing to put out." Airey had done, well, nothing with the librarian and his missing cat. Cats could stay missing as far as he was concerned. Or, well, there were SOME exceptions. "Oh, yeah, the feathers," he chuckled, glancing down at his foot and giving it a wiggle. A few more feathers fell off and revealed his big toe. His HUMAN and FEATHERLESS big toe. "Should be back to normal in a few hours."
Hopefully.

"Would you mind ... err..." okay this was awkward. "Can I have my chair please?" And how rude; she didn't even introduce herself. "Sorry, I'm Josephina Hadley.
No! NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! She was here and Tiberius was going to to LEAVE him for the other end of the....
OH? Hufflepuff Head of House say what?
"Muggle Studies? Did you just say Muggle Studies?" he asked, his eyes glancing towards the OTHER end of the table where there was an empty seat waiting for her. A NEW seat. A seat that was not currently occupied by the Kirk to his Spock. "I don't think you will be needed two seats, Josephina," he grinned. "And surely you would not want to leave one of your new colleagues without his seat, yes?"
He gave Tiberius a soft jab to the side. Hold your ground, Captain, and play along!
"But, before you head to your shiny new seat, take one of these," he said as he handed her a poster. Surely she could appreciate a pet rock. Big muggle vintage item you know.

She still kept her smile on, letting her face fall would surely be more rude than avoiding eye contact.
Although she would enjoy continuing conversation with the man, she felt it might be best to take it slow with this one and let him make the first moves. She'll give him a few minutes, let things settle more, and then attempt to strike up conversation once the feast began, if he hadn't already.
Right. Yes. Right. Greeting was done.
Airey kept his attention on his plate and posters for the time being, he tried to sort of figure out a way back into the conversation going on between the two new professors so he could stop feeling so....awkward. Or maybe he should just keep his attention on his best mate because THEY were having a reunion TOO.

In fact, seeing that there was no food on the tables yet she knew the headmistress hadn't even given the speech, meaning, she wasn't late.
Did she mention yet that she wasn't late?
Walking towards her seat she greeted her colleagues that were already there. "Good evening Sophia... Leo," she said noticing that Hecate's seat was still empty. See, not the last to arrive. "Seren, how was your..."

And why were all these other staff members just letting this child sit here, at the staff table, like she belonged there?

Although there had been no proof that Airey HAD done it. Nick liked to give him the blame because someone had to. "What you got there?" he asked as he pointed at the posters. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer, is what the muggles would say.
Seeing a woman giving him a small wave, the man did not wave back but instead flashed her a charming smile. Tiara was a really pretty name. "Nick Cantwell, the new Groundskeeper" He answered. "Pleasure to meet you Ms. Tyner"
Finally, the Headmistress showed up and Nicks mind went to the food that would usually appear after the welcome speech. He had heard what had happened at Hogwarts last year and although he did not know the fine detail he did know he should be glad that there were real silverware and hopefully real food soon. "Good evening Headmistress, you look lovely this evening" hmmhmmm.
"Thank you" Nick answered immediately and again did not wave his hand but simply gave a nod. "It's good to be back again" If anyone had told him he would be back even after graduating those many years ago he would not have believed them. And here he is! Funny how things go. Oh wait, introduction! "Nick Cantwell, the new Groundskeeper" who wanted to proof that there was no curse on this job....
Minerva continued to smile at the new grounds keeper. Well at least next term she wouldn't be here to meet the next new one. Glancing around the room she noticed Healer Tillstorm was no where to be found. Honestly was the woman plotting the students end in her office. What was taking her so long. A horrible thought crossed Min's mind and she decided it might be good that she hadn't showed up yet. Tuning back to the Grounds Keeper Minerva gave another big smile, "Hello.. Welcome to Hogwarts. Good Luck this term." Really did he not know that position was cursed and you should not go near it. Min was even starting to get to the point of being afraid to let them know she was willing to help around the grounds.

Anyway...
"This is my first here year, too. Teaching, that is." Which is what they were talking about. "I did some teaching at the Wizarding University in Athens recently, though." Those were good times, up until recently. But, uhh... he didn't mention that.
Oh and look Minerva felt like a celebrity or something which really made her uncomfortable to be honest. She never liked being center of attention. Honestly she did not think all of this through when the little plan for Healer Tillstorm came to her mind, but she really didn't think someone like Tillstorm as strict and scary as she was would be late to a feast. Giving a nice smile at the three new professors and a little wave, especially to the charms professor she was assuming. Hmm she would have to check her schedule to see when she had charms again. She assumed the one was flying from where she was sitting. Oh she would just introduce herself to her at their first lesson. No use in bothering the new professors now. Hmmm she was stumped with the other female though. Min for a few seconds wondered what class she was teaching, but soon let it slip her mind. She had bigger things to worry about like if Lafay showed up and she wasn't ready to duck away.

Oh, right. Probably in the same way that the Headmistress forgot she was rock sitting. SIGH.
SPOILER!!: Homeslice & Old Man River
"You suppose right," he muttered back. Seriously man, don't leave him over here at this end of the table. It was like his worst nightmare. Two ladies who he felt...something for. Minerva couldn't help but chuckle at him. She had her ups and downs with Professor Flamsteed in the last year, but all in all she respected the man. He was nice and he did seem to care about the students and their learning. Plus before the ice cream he really did help her in his office that day. "Of course professor, and" She leaned over the table a bit, "Can we just forget that ice cream constellation issue ever happened? Maybe you can keep the drawing just as a laugh, but let's just forget it alright?" Because that's what she was doing with the entire term forgetting it. Well most of it at least.
Taking the small stack of posters she smiled, "These will be up around the puff common room and dorms tonight sir. Hopefully you will find pebbles." Once she had helped the first years she would make it priority to get those up next. Looking at the picture Minerva half wondered if she couldn't just get another rock and decorate it to look like pebbles. He could be happy if she pulled it off and no one else would have to know it was a fake pebbles, right? Nah she could never live, she was a horrible liar. Better just try to find the real one.

Seeing Professor Bentley sit down Minerva almost forgot where she was sitting as she gave the woman next to her a huge smile. "Professor Bentley.. Hello." She hadn't seen her since she left for maternity leave and thank Merlin the woman did, because of the dementors and things last term. "How is the baby? Are you liking being a mom?" These were all questions you asked new parents, right? She hadn't been around many since her family was pretty small, but she thought they were at least, plus maybe if Min got to stay long enough she would get to see baby pictures. Just as she went to lean and ask about seeing pictures a new blonde came into view.
Gulp
Show time Minerva.. You came up here for this reason no getting scared and curling into that pathetic ball now. Keeping as calm as she could Minerva smiled up at Healer Tillstorm and made sure she talked loud enough that the Headmistress was sure to hear in case she needed back up. She half wondered if she could hide behind the grounds keeper if dagger eyes got to bad.
Taking a deep breath she was a bit shocked the woman knew she was in St. Mungos. Word gets around fast when professors and a school healer force you to see knew healers doesn't it. Trying to keep the shaking out of her voice she gave one last look around for protection if she needed it. "Well like I had said to the headmistress you would want to see me. Since you so kindly helped me further my learning of healing by getting me into St. Mungos this summer." Yes.. she could go into more detail if the healer would like, but why not make it out that she did a good thing to start out with. "Plus I wanted to thank you for the opportunities, because I am now a student leader here as well." She brushed her hair back so that the badge could be shown. "I just thought you might be interested in all of this." Should she get up and run now or should she just sit in this comfy seat and see what happened.
The Harpy of Hogwarts | Dungeon Mistress | Bimba di Serpeverde
Why do people have to yell? Hecate thought rubbing her temples... didn't she get enough yelling from Ariadne? Sure it was cute, but it was high pitched, and even her best migraine potions were challenged by the child's squeals. Terrible twos... yuck.
So maybe no one was yelling... but it sounded that way.
New people at the table... weren't there always?
She didn't even care at the moment to meet them... but when she turned to ask Cece to write her a note so maybe Truebridge would excuse her from the opening feast, she notices a new face in Cece's seat... What? No! Oh... wait. That was the Hufflepuff...
She heard Truebridge and Cece tell her to get out, but the girl was still sitting in the seat...
"Wheatborn." She said in a calm yet annoyed voice. Her eyes were closed and her fingers were pinching the bridge of her nose. "If you would like another detention for taking the healer's seat, I'd be delighted to take you to the dungeon's right now... I feel I was too soft on you last time, and I am itching to revisit that."
Her hand came off her nose, and her eyes fixed on the Hufflepuff girl. Her expression was clear. It read 'I dare you.'
Leo headed down to the Great Hall after hastily dropping off his clothes, his cat and other belongings in his office. Why did his father have to get himself into a mess just before he had to leave for Hogwarts? Leo pulled a stressed hand through his dark curly locks as he made his way into the Great Hall. Scanning around the hall he could earn himself a moment or two to just breathe and relax. He was pretty early by the looks of things. Not many students or faculty had arrived yet.
Passing by the house tables he saw that Airey, Callie, Medea and an unknown woman had already claimed their seats on the dais. It took not many seconds to figure out that the unknown woman had taken over Erin’s job considering where she was sitting. Suppressing a sigh Leo headed up onto the dais. Suddenly sneezing loudly enough for it to echo around the hall "ATCHOOOOO!"he stopped. Wiping his nose with a handkerchief he dug out of his robes his eyes landed upon a trail of feathers on the floor heading in Airey’s direction.
Picking up a few feathers he walked over to Airey’s seat and nudged the man on the right shoulder. "Evening Airey," holding out the feathers he murmured. "I believe these are yours?" Dropping off the feathers Leo continued his walk past Calista with a cherry smile pursing his lips "Good evening Calista, nice dress and congrats on the promotion." Head of house was a big, important thing. Leaving the blond he proceeded past Medea’s seat where he hovered for a second. "Good evening Medea. You look lovely tonight." Yes, that she did. Very much so.
Leaving Medea he walked the short distance to where his new colleague/flying official without a name was sitting. "Good evening, welcome to Hogwarts! I'm Leobald Kitridge, the school librarian." He introduced himself with a bright smile. Heading over to his seat he sat down in it and closed his eyes for a moment.
Callie began to look at the Ravenclaw Table as it filled up. She would try to take a walk down there after the Headmistress gave her speech but for now she needed to just stay put. Oh and there was the Librarian.
"Bless you! And aww thank you Leo, it's still so funny to think of myself as a Head of House. But I really hope I do the Eagles justice. I'm pulling for the House Cup on my first term." She grinned brightly. Hey? It could happen.

Anyways, before the feast began, Nick had quickly changed his clothes in his hut to look more presentable and had dashed his way to the Great Hall. The new Groundskeeper stepped up on the platform where the staff table was and tucked a little on the sleeves of his suit. The sleeves looked a little bit tight thanks to the muscles in his arms but did he care? Naaah! He looked around first, wondering which seat was his. "Good evening everyone" he greeted.Did it really matter where he sat down? He would find out soon enough cause he sat down on an empty space and casually leaned back in the chair. He was back.
And who was this?
Calista watched from the corner of her eye as an extremely muscled man walked into the Hall and made his way up to the Staff Table. He sat in the Groundskeeper seat (the one that sadly once belonged to Alistaire). Of course that's who he was, what were they going to have a buff Arithmancy Professor now that Fina switched? Doubt it.
The blonde suddenly wished she had wore her hair down so she could look at him through it without being so noticeable but that wasn't the case so instead she smiled brightly when he addressed them. "Hello there, let me guess, Groundskeeper?" She asked with a melodious tone. "Calista Elwood, Divination and Ravenclaw Head of House." Big and muscley wasn't really her type but she was single and could check her colleagues out couldn't she?

Hopefully they wouldn't be served slop this year?
Where was Theodore? She'd send him an owl after the feast so he could meet her in her office the following morning..yes she'd do that.
Everyone at the table got a 'good evening' and a nod..Leo got a smile of course and she made the sign of the cross and directed that at Medea. Also she hung some garlic near her office door.
After settling in she continued looking around the Great Hall in usual Bellaire manner...judging...always judging.
Sophia. Somehow the woman was still there despite her rudeness to practically everyone but apparently the Headmistress found some reason to keep her.
The woman got a glance but no real welcome. Callie hadn't received one from her and she wasn't going to go out of her way to shout to the other end of the table for the Transfiguration professor.

Botros wondered what kind of mischief bizarre business the stars man was on this time but politely kept to himself. Then he spotted miss Romanos and Callie sitting a few seats away from him. He flashed them an extra smile. He wouldn't hear them over the students chatter, unfortunately. Or well, he would after a few tries.
Also. He moved his seat a few steps away from the Arithmancy's seat next to him. The woman could be still emotionally unstable and frankly he didn't want any closure tonight. Scoot scoot scoot!
Oh there was Abraham! Callie tore her gaze from the students at the Ravenclaw Table to wave at the Ancient Runes professor. She hadn't gotten to visit Egypt with him this past summer but she would have to talk with him about doing it after this term.
"Good Evening Abraham, lovely to see you again." She waved enthusiastically to the old man, not really giving Airey or the guy he was talking to much attention.

She made her way around the table, nodding at the few professors already present that she had to pass before sitting in her seat. The Astronomy professor was already there, to her right, she took the opportunity to say hi. "Melanie Roman, new Care of Magical Creatures professor," was that obvious? "...nice to meet you," she stuck out her hand for a shake.
And only a seat away from her to her left was another professor, though she couldn't remember what subject they'd teach. Melanie stuck out a hand to her, as well, "Melanie Roman."
Now to find out who would be on her immediate left...
The other professors were too far away right now to be politely greeted. Surely she'll catch them another time, in the staff lounge, or another meal, or perhaps just in the hall.
Oh and another new face took a seat in her line of vision, one on just the other side of Medea. "Care of Magical Creatures? It's nice to meet you Melanie." Callie gladly added herself to the conversation and stuck out her own hand. "Calista Elwood, Divination and Ravenclaw Head of House. You can call me Callie though." Everyone did might as well let the new professors know as well.

"Oh good, well it must be extra exciting for you then. I never attended Hogwarts, a Salem Acadamy graduate here. And Quidditch, that's nice. I actually just started trying to fly regularly last term." She grinned as she chattered on. Oh but she forgot to introduce herself. Gahh. Annie settled into her seat once her judgy blue eyes had given everyone a once-over. She gave a polite smile to the new Groundskeeper on her left, and a cool nod to the new Quidditch instructor on her right. Well. The woman wasn't Erin and this groundsman was no Firth, but they would do. They'd seemed.......qualified enough.
Annie filled up her water goblet while she waited for more students to get here. Look at that, real silverware. Should she point that out in her speech? The children ought to be grateful.
And there was Annie. Maybe she would give the speech soon so they could eat? Calista wanted some potatoes for sure and maybe some chicken or ham if they had it. The china was already back so hopefully the food would be good again. "Good evening Anastasia." The redhead got a small wave in greeting.

The new Charms Professor, or that's who she assumed it was based on his chair where Ivy had sat the term before, took his seat just on the other side of her new acquaintance Melanie and apparently already knew her. Must be nice coming into a knew job like this knowing someone. Callie had made quick friends but it still would have been easier that way.
Letting them catch up for a few minutes, the blonde took a sip of her water and looked around the Hall once more. Finally she turned back to him and introduced herself, trying to make herself heard past Medea and Melanie. "Calista Elwood, Divination and Ravenclaw Head of House, welcome to Hogwarts!"

"Fina! Sad to see you leave our side of the table." Callie waved with a fake melodramatic air as the 'new' Muggle Studies Professor made her way to her seat. "We will have to catch up this week, talk about our summers and such." Being fellow Heads of Houses and what not. hehe.

But it seemed they weren't joined at the Staff table by just new staff members but apparently one of the Prefects...posing as the Healer?
HAHAHA
Calie couldn't help it. She giggled a bit which quickly turned into belly-busting giggles that had her bent over trying to hide her face and the sound of her laughter. Minerva really shouldn't be doing that but it was just so funny.
Right, pull yourself together Calista. The Divination Professor sat up straight again and ran a finger under her eye to dry the tears from them and then made a hard effort to not look at the Puff again for fear of losing it once more.

Yes, there were new faces in her immediate vicinity, but she was more concerned about her timing. Had she missed the speech? She certainly hoped not, that would surely equate to... bad karma or something. Yes?
"Evening Seren, how's the baby?" Callie wanted pictures!! But they could wait until they met for tea or whatever later in the week, it was just good to have Seren back for the term. Things were probably still really busy at home for her, what with her husband's busy Ministry job and her teaching at the Castle.

Stopping mid sentence Cece glared at the child sitting in HER seat. Was this girl trying to earn herself a one way ticket back to St. Mungos? "Miss Wheatborn! Are you trying to get yourself sent back to St. Mungos?" Why else would this girl be sitting here... in the healers seat? And why were all these other staff members just letting this child sit here, at the staff table, like she belonged there?
And look, another new groundskeeper. Wonder how long this one will last?
The Healer was there dealing with Minerva but Callie chanced a glance in their direction to wave and smile at the other blonde.

And of course Hecate was threatening the poor girl with a detention for merely having fun. Oh well, I'm sure Fina would intervene if it got to be too much. Regardless Calista smiled kindly at the Slytherin Head of House and even waved slightly to her end of the table.
SPOILER!!: Medea
NOTHING IS HERE BUT YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU
What was that sound? Callie looked quickly over at her best friend after the sharp bang on the table and her dropping of the utensil. Was she still being bothered by the dementor attack and ice cream fiasco from last term like Airey was?
"Medea, are you alright?" The Divination professor leaned in closer and whispered. "Airey told me how he felt, and I let him know it was okay. It's not your all's fault you know." The ice cream and stuff. She didn't like seeing her best girlfriend like this.
SPOILER!!: FINALLY Airey and Tiberius
I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING YOU TWO RPED TOO MUCH
Airey had given her a strange welcome and had left nothing but feathers and a poster of his pet rock behind. Some welcome but at least Callie was for sure that she wasn't the only one to have malted on this dias--she would have to write and inform William.
But beside that, Callie had decided to chance a glance at the Astronomy Professor and found with slight shock but also a tad relieved that he was already looking her way...but WHAT? Who was that man and why was he pointing at her?
Realization dawned on the blonde as she realized that it may be Airey's friend he mentioned in the Alley, but what was he doing sitting in the Arithmancy chair, he said the man would be teaching History of Magic? Regardless, Calista waved over at them with a bright smile.

Oh, so he was a charmer, huh? Tiara had no time for such foolishness as charm, flirting, or romance. Although, recently her opinions had begun to soften a bit with Jason... No, don't go there, Tiara. This is a professional function, not a time for personal reflection.
Mentally shaking herself, she returned her full attention to the pleasantries she was exchanging with Nick. Nick Cantwell. I have to remember that. Yet another face in the parade of names. "The pleasure is mine, I'm sure," she said with a nod.
But then the woman on the other side of her began to speak once more and Tiara turned away from the Groundskeeper.

But back to the new colleague. "Salem. So are you an American, then?" How many 'foreigners' were on the staff? "Oh really? Well if you ever want to go for a little joy ride just let me know. Oh?
Eyebrows raised a little as she nodded and smiled, a simple and routine answer. Though she was not expecting that. That...confession...that made her heart stop in fear and body tense like a rock. Airey told her how he felt. What did that mean? That didn't mean...the thing. The thing that the blonde woman couldn't possibly know about...UNLESS AIREY TOLD HER.

Sayyyyyyyy whattt?!? This man WAS her replacement?! OH for the love of Pythagoras, what HAS Anastasia come to?! There was NO way that this man could be taking over her office. Her classroom. She wouldn't have it. And there was certainly no way she would be giving up HER seat for HIM.
"Yes, I know I'm there..." she glanced towards there, and momentarily cringed as she realized who her new seating partner would be. "And I don't mind it, really, I don't, but I need my seat. See, the thing is I've always used that seat, for 10 years. Every meal. So, well, all I want to do is just... switch the chairs." Mmhm. He could totally sit in that spot, just, the seat was hers. Attachment issues? Definitely.
"So like... just a quick switch? It won't take more than a moment."
Taking the paper from Airey about the pet rock, she nodded about its contents and folded it neatly in half, before placing it in her bag.

Fina turned back toward the commotion with her new prefect, and listened to her explanation. The healer KNEW she'd be up there?! Tilting her head, she was about to tell her that she doubted Cecelia would expect her up here in HER seat, when the woman herself showed up.
But then, as if it wasn't enough having the healer on her case, Hecate was sticking her nose up in other people's business. By other people, she meant those who didn't have anything to do with her, nor were in her house.
Taking a step towards that side of the table, so she didn't have to shout, but she still wanted to switch the chairs so she didn't go too far, she shook her head at all of them.
"Prefect Wheatborn, I do believe there is a time and place to discuss such opportunities. And I'm sure Healer Tillstorm would love to sit down with you and I, sometime, and we can discuss such options." She paused, glancing down at the Hufflepuff table. "BUT, right now, the time and place for you should be at your house table, making the new first years feel welcome. So please, don't make me ask you twice." That wasn't a request, that was an order.

Did she mention yet that she wasn't late?
Walking towards her seat she greeted her colleagues that were already there. "Good evening Sophia... Leo," she said noticing that Hecate's seat was still empty. See, not the last to arrive. "Seren, how was your..."
O___O
Stopping mid sentence Cece glared at the child sitting in HER seat. Was this girl trying to earn herself a one way ticket back to St. Mungos? "Miss Wheatborn! Are you trying to get yourself sent back to St. Mungos?" Why else would this girl be sitting here... in the healers seat? And why were all these other staff members just letting this child sit here, at the staff table, like she belonged there?
And look, another new groundskeeper. Wonder how long this one will last?
"Er... oh, hi," Seren greeted, somewhat confused as to why the prefect was sitting at the STAFF table. Had she lost her way? Was she asking for trouble? Or had they decided to fill staff positions with students, thus making the Wheatborn girl some sort of orderly or intern? "He's well, a bit fussy at times, but that's to be expected," she answered, smiling brightly. Derf couldn't really put a foot wrong, he was too cute to stay mad at for long. "Motherhood is... well... it's different to what I'm used to, but it's magical in its own way."
She'd have contributed to conversation, but it appeared that the girl sitting at the table wasn't by design... and Cece wasn't all too pleased.
Whoops.
Taking her cue to turn away and busy herself with other things, Seren poured herself a water and swilled it around in her hand before taking a sip.
Growing slightly bored at the lack of conversation and mingling, Seren observed the Gryffindor table from where she sat. No chaos seems to have ensued since her passing them, so all well. Next, she turned to look down the staff table at the new and the old faces. One in particular caught her eye.

Flashing a pearly-white smile at her good friend and esteemed colleague, yes, she was thrilled with her promotion. The Ravenclaw's were very lucky to have Callie's guidance, and she lucky to have a nest of bright and promising eagles. "Hey Callie!," she greeted across the table. "He's well, we're well... everything is... well," she nodded happily, "how was your summer?" she asked superficially knowing full well that conversing from opposite ends of the table would not do. There'd be time to catch up though, she'd see to it there was.
SPOILER!!: Fina

"Callie! I'll definitely miss this side, no doubt!" Fina gave the younger woman a sad smile. It was the truth, too. Considering her new meal partner. "But yes, we shall definitely have to catch up! It's been an exciting summer, for sure. Congrats on the new position, by the way!" Even though her badgers were more awesome, eagles weren't too bad....But then again, she was kinda in a relationship with one, so yea.
Speaking of that side of the table...
SPOILER!!: Prefect, Healer, and Potions Mistress
And she probably should introduce herself to some of the new co-workers. You know, be a good veteran professor. Starting with the flying professor.
"Hello there, welcome to Hogwarts," Fina said, giving the woman a smile. "Josephina Hadley." No position, unless asked, because well, it felt weird still.
And it seemed as if two old classmates had been hired; she remembered the last time time that happened. William, Waylon, and Oliver; which mostly just meant trouble. But seeing as it was a male and female this time, it should be better, yes? Except for the duo down by her old seat, that might be trouble too.
Giving the new charms and creatures professors a nice smile and placing one hand on each of their shoulders in the friendly sort of way, she greeted them warmly, "Hello there, welcome to Hogwarts. I'm Josephina Hadley."
Of course, she'd been aware of the changes in staffing, and this one was particular wonderful. It would be a pleasant change to have Fina on her side of the table. Leaning forward to look past Cece and Min, Seren gave her a small wave, "Fina, welcome to our side," not that the sides competed or anything, but it was nice to have a sense of comradery. "Enjoying the change in scenery so far?"
Melanie smirked to herself. Yes, Pierson, teaching here, she gathered that.
Wait. What did he just say?!
She gave a light laugh of disbelief. "No!"She was just in Greece recently. They couldn't have been in the same place at the same time, only to come teach here at the same time. That was way too coincidental.

Everyone did might as well let the new professors know as well.
Oh! Another professor nearby! Melanie politely shook her hand. "Nice to meet you, Callie." Divination, eh? A subject Melanie couldn't get the hang of while she was a student, much to her frustration back then.

Chuckling softly, she cleared her throat quietly before asking, "Haff you studied at this school?"
Fifth year? Wow. It took a lot of Melanie's will power to keep from raising her eyebrows in surprise. Not that that was a bad thing, it just seemed like quite a long time. Then again, she isolated herself in Greece for nearly EIGHT years. And, yes, the time absolutely flew.
"Yes," she smiled, "I was a Hufflepuff." At that, her gaze shifted to the student tables, quickly finding the one that she was all too familiar with. "Yourself?" She was guessing the answer was 'no', but felt that was a more polite way of asking where she was from than asking straight.
......
Suddenly, a hand was on her shoulder and as she looked at Piers, he had one, too. Melanie twisted in her chair toward Piers to see who the hand belonged to.
It was no one she recognized, but that was just as well, as she introduced herself. "Josephina. Hi," she smiled, "Melanie," she reached a hand up, "New Care of Magical Creatures Professor." The professors at Hogwarts certainly seemed more friendly than when she was a student here. Then again, the relationship she had with them was different this time. Professors were colleagues. It was all a little crazy to think of still, but very exciting at the same time.

She couldn't help but think about who sat in her chair before she claimed it. "Medea Romanos, Defense Against the Dark Arts. It's a pleasure to meet you, Tiara."
She smiled. "Oh, no worries." The woman got a small smile. Tiara wasn't quite sure why she was even apologizing, but she certainly wasn't going to question it.
"Medea. It's truly a pleasure to meet you as well." So this was the woman that taught the students how to protect themselves? "You're braver than I with that class, hexes flying every which way and dark creatures prowling around. Good luck this year!"

Hearing a voice to the other side of him, Pierson turned his attention to the blonde who had spoken. Divination, Calista Elwood. Good to know. He committed that to memory and nodded to her as it would have been rude to reach across his coworkers to try and shake her hand. "Pleasure to meet you, Calista. Pierson Fuller. Charms." But she probably knew the title already, considering he was fairly certain they all had assigned seats here.

No..? "Yes," he said, laughing too because... she was? Piers wasn't sure of the reasoning behind her small outburst, but he went onto explain, "I transferred to Athens after two years in Edinburgh and then started teaching Kwikspell courses a few years later." And look where he was now. Teaching at the place of all places. The place where they kind of... grew up together. Strange how small the world was sometimes.

Generation gaps frightened the man and there were SEVERAL generation gaps between them.
Several.
He was slightly terrified of the Arithmancy professor too. She HAD kissed the Runes Professor at the end of term feast last term. He didn't want to see that again. Or have her be his third kiss. Cringe.
Flamsters seemed a tad preoccupied with his thoughts, after responding to him. Using this time to venture looks down the table Tiberius took notice of two others grabbing his attention.

Tiberius gave the man a big ol' grin and waved his arm back at the guy who gave him a small wave. Seems like a cool guy, taking time to acknowledge his existence all the way down there. He'll have to speak with him later. Cool locks on top of his head too.

Red Head in the center, not hard to miss. She was clearly the Head Mistress of course. "My pleasure to be here. Had an okay nap on the way up. Nice and crowded in that back car, like the last train I rode." What was she doing now, was there something wrong with her neck, clearly she should have that really young Healer take a look at it for her.

GAH! No stop quit looking that way!She saw him pointing in her direction and was now looking at the two of them! Merlin, he felt so dumb!

Believe it or not, the healer's look actually softened a bit as she listened to the reason Minerva was sitting in her seat. "I'm really glad to see you here Miss Wheatborn but when I said I wanted to see you, I meant in my office in the morning." Oh right, the girl was now a prefect. "I am interested in hearing all about how your summer went and about how you plan on being a good prefect, but we can discuss that later. Right now you should head back down to your table." Besides, her sitting here like this really wasn't showing good leadership on her part. We wouldn't want all the students thinking they could just come up to the staff table and sit wherever they wanted.
Hearing the voice of the potions mistress she turned towards it. "I don't think a detention will be necessary here professor. Prefect Wheatborn was just heading back to her table. Isn't that right prefect," she said looking back towards Minerva. The girl went through enough last term, she didn't need to be tortured punished now just for wanting to share her news with the healer.
Oh look. Here comes the Puffy Head of House.
"You really should learn to lighten up a bit Josephina. There was no harm done here. Prefect Wheatborn was just excited to share her news with me. There's no law against that now is there? No, no there isn't. And I think Miss Wheatborn and I will do just fine discussing things without your presence." That's right, the puffy leader was not invited to Cece's office in the morning. She would just have to find another time to chat with her prefect. "And as I just told Professor Lafay, Minerva was just heading back to her table before you came along." See, no need for you to stick your nose in where it's not needed. Everything is under control here.
Placing a hand on Minerva's shoulder she gave it a light squeeze. "I'll come down to your table after the headmistress gives her speech. We can chat a little then if you want." It wasn't like Cece was going to be eating any of the food there anyway. She would just stick to eating the food she brought in herself.

Right, Healer Tillstorm wouldn't mind a Hufflepuff being in her seat... and pigs could fly too. Riiiiiiight. Anastasia bit back a sharp reply as she saw both Hadley and Lafay reprimanding the girl. Her narrowed eyes said enough for her. Wheatborn had better go back to her table if she knew what was good for her. Hmph.

"Unfortunately, yes. We have some bold students here, as I'm sure you'll come to realize." Anastasia gave the new staffer a grim smile.

"Good evening Headmistress, you look lovely this evening" hmmhmmm.
"Why thank you, Mr. Cantwell," Anastasia seemed to brighten at the compliment. Look at that, even her new people knew how to get on her good side. "How are you doing this evening?" He didn't look like he'd fallen in the lake yet, so that was a good thing.

"Evening, Ms. Elwood." Annie inclined her head in return to Calista's greeting.

What was she doing now, was there something wrong with her neck, clearly she should have that really young Healer take a look at it for her.
"You came in on the train?" Anastasia stared at the new professor. "How... different. It must have been enlightening for you." And awkward for the kids. Ha ha.
She turned back toward the center and tapped her fingers lightly on the table. Speech now? Now? Now?

Well. That was good to know. At least she wasn't a Quidditch Captain, this Hufflepuff. "Nothing I can't handle, I'm sure," she said confidently. Tiara did not tolerate foolish, nonsensical behavior in Quidditch players. And there were plenty of childish players in the European League, so she'd had her fair share of dealing with it.
She refrained from saying any of this, however, as the Headmistress then made a motion that said she wanted to give the traditional beginning of the year speech. Tiara took a quick sip from her goblet and then sat up straight in anticipation. Plus, she was hungry, so she wanted her new boss to get a move on.
