The tower classroom was darker than it had been in previous lessons throughout the terms. The tall windows were shut and the curtains were drawn to hide the brilliant views of the Hogwarts Grounds and expansive sky. The room was only lit by a few candles placed along the wall here and there.
Professor Elwood was seated in her chair, her usual desk was gone and a small spindly table had taken its place in front of her. The blonde sat there smiling smally as she waited for her students to enter.
OOC: Please file in and wait for the lesson to start.

Seeeee? She was RIGHT!! They wouldn't be doing anything with even the smallest possibility of starting a fire...unless they opened the windows and used the crystal balls to focus the energy from the sun but that kinda seemed more like Professor Airey's kinda thing so definitely not.
Lex hopped up and took one of the bigger balls. If there was something inside then she needed a good view. She wanted to SEE! Ahem, about this polishing business. There was a charm she learned to get glass clean...these were made of glass, yeah? Not some similar in kind material that might shatter when exposed to magic? As amusing as the thought of a minor explosion was, she didn't figure it'd be that amusing when she was sent out of class sooo....Alexa grabbed a cotton towel then took her seat once again.
She blew on the glass a few times, getting that fog stuff on it then began wiping in small circular motions to get any and everything off it. Wouldn't want to end up seeing something only it's the wrong something because there was a finger print in the way.
That was the difference between sleeping well at night and asking to bunk with the Divination or DADA Professors themselves.

Crystal balls, huh? Ella smiled a little and eyed the trunk, curious. This was the type of 'fortune telling' that she'd been exposed to as a child, in stories and on television. It was really excited that she'd get to experience it first hand right now.
After Professor Elwood gave them the instructions, Ella slipped out of her seat and carefully made her way to the trunk. A larger crystal ball would probably be best, especially since the shapes or whatever she was meant to be seeing in the ball would likely be distorted anyway. At least with a larger ball the image would have more space to take form. She grabbed a towel too and then headed back to her seat, ready to clean.
Polish. Polish. Pooolish. Merlin, these crystal balls needed a good scrubbing.
Kace heard they were gonna use crystal balls? Hmm this shall be an interesting lesson. He never got to work with crystal balls before. He was excited. So the professor wanted them to come up and polish them. He would do that but the line seemed too long. So he waited at his seat for a few minutes for the other students to finish.
Once he saw Ella come back, he went up and got his own crystal ball. The professor was right they did seem like all the same sizes. He couldn't see his reflection in the ball because it look so dirty and smudgy. Man this ball is gonna get a good cleaning for sure. Before he went back to his seat, he got the rag he needed to clean his crystal ball.
Once he sat down, he was scrubbing and trying to get the dust and finger prints off. He was scrubbing hard and he was seeing some progress. He was polishing but it required a little more elbow grease than he was giving.
Crystal Balls were cool, right? Charlie hopped so, as she cautiously got up from her seat and made her way to the trunk. She frowned a little at the apology and the comments Professor Elwood had made, but shrugged them off: probably something to do with all the paying they had to do last term.
Choosing one of the larger Crystal Balls - she'd forgotten her glasses, and the larger the crystal ball the larger the images in them would be, right? That made sense, to only her, probably - and picking up a cloth, she went back to her seat and began to polish it.

NO. WAY.
They were going to be scrying? REALLY?! ... Wait... wasn't looking into a crystal orb quite hard? Things that Seers were meant to be good at? True Seers who could actually see the future and not... one of the hoaxes. ... And what happened if they saw nothing in their own orbs apart from a lot of fog?
Shrug.
Grinning slightly, Alec got up from his seat and headed over towards the front. The herb-like smell filled his nostrils but he didn't take much notice of it since... crystal balls! The size didn't matter, right? He glanced around at them all before gently picking up an orb that wasn't the biggest or the smallest. Just in between. Just right.
He grabbed a towel and headed back towards his seat. There, he started dusting down the orb using the towel, making sure to get rid of any smudges and fingerprints on the glass. Why did these have so many smudges and fingerprints on them? And did goblins secretly like scrying?
Y'know, as much as Ascanius was a general fan of Elwood and her face and voice and face, he had to admit he was not keen on this crystal ball thing. It seemed to leave too much up to interpretation for ten students. And he was a methodical type of guy. Leaving too much open was room for error. Just in his opinion.
But in his way, he didn't say a word and collected the things he would need for the lesson. He picked up one of the crystal balls and a towel to grease it. Then he returned to his seat and started to polish it.

Crystal balls. Tag didn't mind. Whatever the Professor said Tag would do. She knew what she was doing, obviously, so nothing bad would happen.
Anyway Tag went up to go grab his own crystal ball, took a towel went back to his seat and slowly started to rub off any dirty markings his fingers could have imprinted onto the object. So how long would this go on for?
N'awwwww, scrying didn't have a -mancy name. Psh. It was still a fun word though. "Scrying..." Derry said it under her breath with a satisfied grin. She liked good sounding words, okay? Hehehe.
Right. Crystal balls. Because they were always totally accurate and nothing could possibly be read in any way other than the correct one. ... But then maybe she just wasn't very good at it, so practice would probably be good. Derry walked over, picked up a towel and a crystal ball, and went back to her place. Polishing, right. Like the magic lamp or whatever. She plopped herself back into a sitting position and started to carefully polish the ball - they were unusually satisfying to hold. Hmm.
So... crystal balls is was. Not as interesting as fire or napping. But as long as Nigel did not get cross eyes it would be okay. Nigel walked up and just picked a random ball not really caring.
He walked back trying to find any prints or dust. But his was clean. So yeah he was ready to start staring at a crystal ball.

Crystal gazing? Alrightey then. Adi wondered if he would actually see anything into the balls. He highly doubted it but he could improvise, right? Make stuff up as he went along. Because really, who would see stuff in there? He thought that maybe all these stuff were nothing but a hoax.
But Adi followed the instructions and collected a crystal ball and towel. He followed Kace back to their seats and began polishing the ball.
So they had been missing their crystal balls? What school that claimed to teach Divination didn't have crystal balls?! She scoffed slightly at the professor and Hogwarts in general. It was at such a low standard that Karina couldn't even speak about it with her fellow schoolmates and instead just stayed silent in her seat, looking about the darkened room, bored until she got up to get one of the returned crystal balls.
A polishing cloth and a crystal ball in hand, she marched back to her seat and sighed. Since there was no Astronomy here, this would be a boring class for Karina. Long and boring and inadequate. Perfect.
Jonas was trying to concentrate on the lesson. Divination wasn't his favorite class in the world but, it wasn't his least favorite either. Least it was better then potions. He's trying to pay attention but, there was a lot on his mind. Types of divination....what are the types. Oh! They were getting the crystal balls and then to polish them. He gets up quickly and goes to get the crystal ball and a towel. He returns to his desk and sits down. He starts to polish the crystal ball.

Ew.
Elodie followed closely behind Charlie to get a crystal ball, and chose one of..whatever the heck kind of size. She didn't know. Were people choosing some because they were a tiny bit bigger? What even. She paid no attention to that and just grabbed the first one she could and a cloth, before heading back to sit down.
Crystal balls? Suppressing a grin, he got up to get one. They made him think of his first ever divination lesson. The one where they had dressed up, and made carts and stuff. Pretended to be fortune tellers.
Peering into the trunk he chose one that looked like all the other ones. Picking up a cloth, he headed back to his seat, and started to polish it, mind on things besides crystal balls and divinations. Like feet, and people who belonged to feet.

Crystal balls. Cool. Jake did as the professor said and stood up. He walked over to the balls and picked the one he thought looked the best, and a towel. When he returned to his seat he began polishing the fingerprints off the surface. He was interested in the whole crystal ball thing... thought he tried to seem casually... studious. That was the right word.

Crystal balls? Sure, why not? Mo shrugged gamely as he struggled out of his pouffy chair and headed up to the front of the room in search of a crystal ball. And a towel. Maybe he ought to get one for Ace too, since she would need one and since the professor was there looking at him and being generally impressed with how generous Mo was with his friends.
Or she would be. In theory.
Mo grabbed ONE crystal ball and a towel before heading back to his seat. Which was worse? Not getting to be awesome in front of Professor Pretty or dropping two crystal balls while trying to show off?

She'd slipped into the seat next to Mo without complaint, but the empty one next to her was still there if...
.. nope. Too late. West was going to be sulky in the back, and Cat was there next to her now. Alice offered her friend a smile before twisting around in her seat so she could look at the moody Slytherin near the door. Except class was starting, so she couldn't do that either.
The sixth year turned back towards Elwood and propped her chin up on her hands as she watched the professor start asking them the usual questions prior to the actual divining, not bothering to offer an answer when so many had already been said. Her expression almost looked dead, but as soon as the blonde instructed them to fetch a crystal ball, she was up and out of her seat.
How badly would Elwood react if she broke one of these?
Alice carried it back to her seat with both of her hands. Just in case.

Marigold was SUPER HAPPY that they got their crystal balls back. She hopped out of her stool and skipped over to front. Grabbing a crystal ball, she carefully brought it back to her seat. She placed it down carefully and polished it with the cloth, in small circles.
Crystal balls. They were good. Yeah. But they looked breakable. And Lilly was a clumsy sort of person. Oh well. She really had no choice.
The older girl made her way to the front of the classroom and grabbed a crystal ball for herself. Luckily, she wasn't right at the back so didn't have as far to walk.
Wobble. Wobble some more. And she'd made it. Booyah! Clumsy? Not her. Not at all. Lilly sat down and started polishing it gently with her cloth. This was booooringgggg.

Polishing it.
Manually.
With a towel.
Why not use a polishing spell? Faster AND more effective. It had to be ritualistic then, either that or Elwood was doing that thing what professors did where they got students to do some mindless task to fill in time. He got a ball and a towel, made a basic effort at polishing, and sat back and watched Alice instead.

She came to a stop and let the end she was holding fall to the floor with a loud 'THUMP'. "We were able to get them back from Gringott's! So Prefect Wheatborn is correct, we will be scrying with the medium of Crystal Balls." They were excited right? Elwood certainly was, she had been trying to get her foot in the door before teaching this her first two terms and then they were destroyed and then stolen. Now she finally had them back.
She pulled out her wand and made a flame appear on the end of it and she began to walk around the room lighting various incense that were stationed throughout the room. "While I like the necessary incense, please come forward and pick out a crystal ball, they are all basically the same, some are larger than others, and a cotton towel. When you get back to your seat begin polishing it free of finger prints and other smudges." She continued to light the smelly sticks causing the room to begin to smell like sage and other 'herby' things.
She was very close to fall asleep thanks to the dimness. And that wasn't good since she obviously had to pay attention to what was being said. She forced her eyes open and grabbed a quill. There was nothing yet to take notes of but holding something in her hand was better than propping up her head and nearly drift to sleep.
At the mention of Crystal balls though, she perked up and straightened. She always wanted to hold a crystal ball and dramatically wave her hands around it. The image in her head was super cool.
Just as Elwood finished talking, the fifth-year was up on her feet and trotted to the balls picking up medium-sized one plus a towel. Cassia slid back into her seat and started polishing the crystal ball carefully. This was a delicate thing!

Hm, alright. Crystal balls it was.. Wade slid out of where he sat to go up and get himself one of them. Blinking at the sight of the one he chose, he took a cloth as well before heading back to sit and start the polishing. Wade's furrowed brows figured a spell would've made it faster, but maybe the rubbing from the cloth would wake it up. *Rub*Rub*
Tora still had no clue how to use a crystal ball. This was definitely not one of her best subjects, but she came to school for a reason right? To learn! So she hopped up out of her seat and went to go grab one of these crystal thingies and a cloth to go along. Returning to her seat, she started to rub off all the smudges and other things, which was more frustrating than one might think as every time she held it to steady the ball, she got more fingerprints on it. Eventually, she just ended up holding it with her robe and got it clean that way. Ok! What's next?

Hannah had to try really hard not to snort when the professor told them to get a crystal ball. It was going to be one of those lessons... Yay! (not) She very slowly got out of her seat and grabbed a crystal ball and cloth. The look on her face very clearly said that she thought that this was a big fat waste of time. Oh well, at least she could get a laugh out of it. That counted for something right?
The sixth year sat down and began cleaning the ball until there weren't any fingerprints or anything left on it. Now what?
Sitting in the classroom, and if she was honest, she didn’t really liked it that the room was darker than normal, she listened to what the professor was telling, and when she mentioned the transfer students she made a ugly face, she didn’t liked it to that all those new kids were walking here around as if they belonged here, because they DIDN’T belonged here! This was HER school! But, she was behaving herself and didn’t showed her feelings, she just sat there and listened. And when she listened, she the professor talked about something she had indeed wondered, why was this first lesson so late in the year? Hmm…
Eh… what were African forms of Divination? She had never heard about it, not that she ever had searched for something what had something to do with the lessons and what was not given as homework, so… She just tried to listen and to understand more of it.
But… she tried it, yes, she was paying attention to the lesson, but this was not her subject, she had really NO idea! So, she just looked curious at the professor and waited for somebody else to answer this question, but still, after that, she had NO idea what was going on and she started to wonder what she was doing here, in a lesson like this… Hmm…
But… maybe she had been a little slow, but eventually she understood what was going on and she did what the professor had told everybody to do, she grabbed one of the crystal balls and a cotton towel, and started to work.
