Up a small, spiral staircase near the charms classroom is where the Charms Practice Room is located. The room is circular and fair enough in size and can hold about twenty students comfortably. There is a fireplace in the stone wall for when the days get colder, but don't try to floo yourself out, as it is not part of the flooing network.
Students are allowed and encouraged to use this room for practicing their charms and completing their homework for Charms class only. Students found doing other, non-charms-related activities in this room will be sent out and possibly punished, depending on Professor Fuller's mood.
OOC: You may RP your student here whenever you like, just make sure they are doing something related to Charms. Feel free to team up with other students for practice and, most importantly, have fun!

.. but only because she needed it to complete the rest of the homework.
Hmm. She hadn't tried slowing down the book yet, though, at least not from the top of the sill. Instead of aiming for a full stop this time, when Alice dropped the textbook and gave her wand a wave, she had a light descent in mind. "Arresto Momentum!" It almost seemed as if the object had stopped, but at a closer glance, the sixth year could see it drifting down to land on Lex's head at the pace of a snail.
When it finally settled on her teammate's hair, Alice gave her a triumphant smile.
"Your turn."
More damage was done when she didn't know how to use it?? "Well yeah...but like, that damage would probably be to ME, more than the people on the other teams." Contemplated as she reached for the book that had gently landed atop her head. "I don't think you want me injured, so you'd make sure I had the reflexes for it in the first place."
Also, stop arguing Alice, she wanted to be right this one time, OKAY???
Lex took only a glance out the window before walking to the spot she'd stopped at just now. This would be her last time slowing it down before she decided she would stop it all together. That was a fun idea all in itself.
"Alright, going again." Was Alice ready? The whole point of speaking was to let her know it was happening.
Lex threw the book, a bit harder this time. "Arresto Momentum!" That last one was a bit closer than she'd like to admit. Good it slowed down though...maybe she should look through the window to see where she'd need to go looking just in case.

Marigold took a breath and tossed her bouncy ball up again.
"Arresto Momentum!" she said confidently. She crossed her fingers... and GRINNED reeeeeealllly big when it slowed down. She remembered to put her hand out and catch it, no hitting her face nope. Only one more one of this, then ACTUALLY stopping it. Yay.
Tay nodded, ”Yeah… we should.” Taylor beamed at the girl and giggled, ”By the way you are talking, I probably would.” She was absolutely beaming at Sophie. Tay curtsied and smiled, ”I am glad you think so.” Taylor twirled a little in happiness and looked at her new friend… or hopefully new friend.
Taylor blushed then nodded, ”Yeah… he is…” Tay sighed happily and dreamily and swayed, thinking of the cute guy. ”He is one of a kind and so sweet…” She braided her hair and smiled. Her eyes looked distant for a few seconds until she blinked at what Sophie said. Taylor went bright red in embarrassment. ”Thanks… I think…” Tay giggled and smiled at her, ”You will one day… but you are still very young… so so young… too young for boys.” She giggled and smiled at her, ”You have to be in… umm… second year…” Taylor nodded and winked… Tay couldn’t say any earlier because she started to date sometime around second or third year.
Taylor clapped her hands with pride. She beamed at Sophie, ”That was amazing! You at least slowed down the second one… I at least had a few seconds more than you so if I did like you and tossed one then the other, you probably would have been able to stop them both.” Tay twirled a few times and then beamed at Sophie, ”You are magnificent…” She smiled at what Sophie said, ”Thanks…” Taylor laughed, ”Oh… well thanks…” Tay took her wand out and focused on the apple and thinking of stopping it. ”Arresto Momentum!” Taylor opened her eyes and the apple had stopped right in front of her. She reached out and took it then bit into it after wiping it with her clothes… the part where there wasn’t whip cream at. ”Mmmmm… good apple.” Tay giggilged and smiled at her. ”Next stop kitchen?”
"Oh, I know," Sophie nodded firmly at Taylor, raising both hands in defense. "I don't care about having a boy right now. I like being able to do things on my own and go on adventures with people and have friends. I'd rather work on having lots of friends and making them really good friendships than work on a relationship. I'm only twelve!" There was a hint of disbelief in her voice, mostly over the idea that anyone her age would actually already be in a relationship. They were just kids. "I'm just a kid." Second year still sounded really soon, but Sophie just smiled and offered Taylor a half-hearted nod. "Sure. Okay."
Sophie struck a slightly sarcastic, dramatic pose as Taylor complimented her, then she giggled. "You're better." That was true by default, of course. "I hope I'm as good as you some day." She was being a little bit of a suck-up intentionally now because she really DID want Taylor to make her some really good sweets, but she tried to play it off super coolly. Letting the orange roll to the floor - she didn't want it - Sophie thrust a fist in the air triumphantly and declared as she headed for the door, "To the kitchens!"

She thought Alice didn't want her injured? "Sometimes you could probably use a good smack over the head, though."
Argument won.
It almost seemed as if the captain was actually going to let the book float away this time, but she caught it just in time and tossed it back. "Arresto Momentum!" Alice gave her wand another wave and stopped it a couple inches from Lex's face, letting the text fall to the ground with a thud after she lost concentration.
Her legs were getting tired. Sitting down on the sill, she swung her legs and nudged the book towards Lex with a shoe. "This book is going to be real beat up by the time we're finished."
At least it wasn't HER textbook.

Hazel smiled as she tossed her bouncy ball in the air, for after all, she was going to do magic. "Arresto Momentum!" she said, trying to sound confident. The ball slowed down a bit, but it didn't stop completely. Still, it was better than she'd expected!

Lex stood, mouth agape at the words of her captain. A good smack in the head? "Says who??" There were many things Lex needed but a smack in the head wasn't one of them!! Such an odd idea Alice, let's try not to have any more of those, mmk? Good. Moving on.
She waited for Alice to stop the book, holding her breath a bit but relaxing when the spell was cast. Poor book. It was never meant to see such hardships.
Eh, that's what it got for being History.
Lex motioned for Alice to scoot a bit from the window before before holding the book outside and letting go. This was probably the bravest of her stunts and as quick as she let go she aimed her wand at the falling object. "Arresto Momentum!!"
It stop. Suspended in mid-air was good.
"Accio A history of magic." How else would she get it back? "Here you go."

Hazel grabbed the ball now that she had some sense of what she was doing.
"Arresto Momento!" she said, waving her wand. The ball slowed, exactly what she wanted! She couldn't help but grin. Quickly, she darted forward to catch the ball, eager to do it again. This was fun!

Marigold took her ball, and on a whim, tossed it really close to a fellow student.
"Arresto Momento!" she said, happy when it stopped completely. She skipped over to the younger student and took the ball from where it was, near her face.

"Me. I say so." And, according to Lex's best friend, Alice's word was law. It even came before Ascanius, didn't she know? The sixth year caught the book as Lex summoned it up and tried doing the the same thing as the fourth year had, dropping it out of the window again.
"Arresto Momentum." Another wave of her wand had the text making a slow descent to the grass below the window.
Did she have to summon that, too?
Nah. It was Lex's turn, not her job.

"Sorry! I'm Marigold," she chirruped happily.
Hazel was quite surprised to have a ball about 3 centimeters away from her face, but this girl seemed nice, so she wasn't upset at all. "Hi, Marigold! I'm Hazel! I'm a Hufflepuff too!"
She was happy to do magic... and to be at Hogwarts... and to be a Hufflepuff... and, well, you get the point.
She tossed up the ball and said, fully confidently this time, "Arresto Momento!" The ball slowed and fell directly into her outstretched hand. Now time for complete stops!

Seriously? "But I don't really have to listen to what you say off the Quidditch Pitch, remember?" Oh but wait...that was kinda helping Alice's point because they were talking about beater's and bats and the like. "Ugh. Nevermind." Because she wasn't about to admit that she lost. NOPE.
Alexa looked on expectantly as the book hit the ground. Alice was going to summon it back, yeah? She had to, she dropped it. What if that new History man walked by, saw it then found her name in it? There would be QUESTIONS!!!
But clearly this didn't bother the girl. Lex gave a sigh then accio-ed the book again.
Back to business. She dropped it from the window again. "Arresto Momentum!" See that Alice? This is what you do to a book thrown out a window. You STOP it, not let it hit the ground. Once again she accio-ed it then handed it over.

"Yes you do. Remember that seminar? Your student leaders who're smarter than you know best, Cambridge. Even if it's not about Quidditch... which it is." She grinned, liking the fact that that ridiculous seminar from last term still had SOME purpose.
Because, other than how it had convinced people that Alice knew best, it was pointless.
Did Lex want her to stop it? Fine, then. Alice chucked the text out of the window again and waved her wand with the intent to fully halt its movement this time. "Arresto Momentum!"
She was going to fetch that again, yes? Because Alice was done.

Bringing up the seminar wouldn't help. "I didn't agree to that question, remember? I hit the other button then you asked me to agree and I pushed it to make you happy." It was NOT because she thought they better than her because half of them most certainly did NOT.
Once again Alice wasn't going to fetch the book. No complaints here. They were just about done. She didn't want to stand in this room arguing much longer so again she accio-ed it.
This time she didn't drop it through the window, she simply got onto the window and got set to drop it. Once she let go she pointed her wand at it. "Arresto Momentum!"
She hopped off the window the grabbed the book that had stopped mid-fall. "I think we're done now, yeah?" Because she was.

Okay, it's fine just try again, she thought to herself. Perhaps the quill was a bit to light, it didn't exactly go very far when she threw it in the air.
Blair rummaged through her back looking for something else she could practice with. A book? That could work. She pulled out her diary, that should be fine it's not too heavy.
Wand at the ready Blair tossed the book into the air, keeping her eyes focussed on the book she spoke, "Arresto Momentum!"
It worked! The book didn't come to a complete stop but it slowed down enough for Blair to grab it before it fell to the floor.

IC: Raven saw that students were practicing last minute homework before lesson two was about to begin. She picked up her other shoe and threw it up in the air and whispered, "Arresto Momentum." After she got some weird looks she just said, "What I'm trying to test my voice to see if there's any effect." The boot had slowed almost to a complete stop and after she said that, fell immediately to the floor.
"YES!" she almost screamed. Again with the weird looks. 'Today was not my social day', she thought to herself.

"Hazel, hi. I'm Raven. I'm also a hufflepuff first year, I see your tie and you seem like you're a first year. I think the spell is actually, (Raven grabbed the ball and tossed it) "Arresto Momentum". The ball slowly went over to Hazel to where she could catch it.

Reason: No double-posting please
For the sheer amount of spellwork Cutty had learned this year, this was the first time he'd set foot inside of the designated charms practice room. He was carrying his wand, his heavy bag which seemed to be weighted down more than usual with something sticking out the hardly closed opening.
He pulled his bag off of his body and plopped it down onto the floor with a THUNK! Unfastening the opening he pulled out a top hat (which had been the thing that was sticking out of his bag), a rather hefty rock he'd found near the lake that if dropped would quite sufficiently hurt ones foot, and his cauldron. He scattered them about in his corner and then took out some lightweight objects; A phial, one empty and one full of...please let that be mud! And, also his ink 'n quills.
Cutty whipped out his wand looking down on his objects as if they were alive and about to be tormented. He picked his teeth for a moment with the end of his wand then very, very quickly performed the whipping wand motion with a, "Carpe Retractum!" The little empty phial was lifted and seemingly tossed into Cutty's skinny little chest. And again, this time with the phial that was indeed filled with mud. Mud and earthworms.
The boy eyed the ink bottle and quills. If he timed it right, he thought, he could finite the spell and perhaps catch the items he was pulling back. It would make him look supa slick. And who the deuce was he trying to impress anyway?

Caleb found that the Charms room was nearly empty, except for - UGH. Great. Cutty. Eh well. Good thing this wasn't a partner activity. "Cutty," he said, addressing the boy with just his name and making his way to the opposite end of the room.
He walked out a few feet in front of him and placed his Charms textbook on the floor. Then he walked backwards until he was about five feet away and pulled out his wand. A few deep breaths so he could concentrate, and then he whipped his wand towards the book and pulled backwards. "Carpe Retractum!" he exclaimed.
He watched with a smile as the rope lassoed around the book and pulled it towards him. He held out his left arm and caught the book, despite fumbling it a moment later and dropping it. Eh, what could he say...he wasn't left handed!

Cutty turned towards the rooms entrance way when he'd heard a couple of footsteps approaching. It was Newell. Who he did not actively dislike, so much as he simply enjoyed teasing. And if Caleb ever found himself or his robes on the worse end of a fire spell and if it were up to him, Cutty would probably conjure water. Probably. Maybe. Why not? Probably.
"Caleb," He greeted using a man-nod which was more teasingly haughty than malicious, then went back to his work noting the distance between them with his ears.
He did happen to notice, though Caleb's seemingly uncoordinated catch. Better time this perfectly or else look silly. "Carpe Retractum!" He said aiming the spell at the little bottle of ink and holding his wand above his head whipped it high into the air which gave him the time to catch it as it descended towards the floor after he uttered, "Finite!" It did sort of bounce around after being caught, but being a small object it was easily contained and held tight towards the chest instead of being dropped. Not a bad first attempt.
Cutty tried this again with the quill, which had a much slower rate of falling so it had been simple enough to achieve. Placing the items back into his school bag, then he looked at the hat and that heavy rock he had heaved in here from outside not only for exercise, something he'd been doing in secret since he'd arrived at the school, but also for practice.
Mr. Unicorn: Kim's daughter: Jenn's sister : MILKSHAKES: Lita Daley: The Sun: Its so Fluffy!
Being the good productive student he was Tag was heading to that little charms practice room to do his homework. Once walking through the door he gave the place a look. That was odd. It was rather empty in here right now. No matter, he was here to do his homework. That's all that mattered at this moment.
Carpe Retractum, yes. That spell. Only Professor Fuller had told them to challenge themselves some more and use heavier objects. Easy enough. Tag didn't have that much of trouble using this spell in class.
Setting his rucksack down on the floor, with all his textbooks in it, Tag stood a few feet away from it and got out his wand. "C'mon little leprechaun." Good pep talk is good.
Whipping his wand and pointing it at his rucksack Tag said "Carpe Retractum!" A second or two passed but then shortly enough a rope came from Tag's wand and latched itself around his rucksack. With some faked force Tag pulled his rucksack closer to his feet.

Caleb had brought other things to try out the spell on as well, including his history of magic textbook which was a LOT bigger than the other one he'd been practicing on. He walked over and set it down on the same spot that his other textbook had previously occupied, then wandered back, a bit further this time. About eight feet.
Focusing on the book, he whipped his wand and yelled "Carpe Retractum!" and watched as the lasso once more grabbed the book and sent it towards him. Caleb was ready this time, which was why he'd gone out further - to give him more time to catch it! He held out his arms and caught the book with both hands this time. Easy peasy.
