Up a small, spiral staircase near the charms classroom is where the Charms Practice Room is located. The room is circular and fair enough in size and can hold about twenty students comfortably. There is a fireplace in the stone wall for when the days get colder, but don't try to floo yourself out, as it is not part of the flooing network.
Students are allowed and encouraged to use this room for practicing their charms and completing their homework for Charms class only. Students found doing other, non-charms-related activities in this room will be sent out and possibly punished, depending on Professor Fuller's mood.
OOC: You may RP your student here whenever you like, just make sure they are doing something related to Charms. Feel free to team up with other students for practice and, most importantly, have fun!

Picking up the soccer ball once again Tag got ready to throw it and then slow down its speed with the spell he had been practicing so far today. Last time to do this task, hopefully, if he didn't mess it up again like he had just done so a few minutes ago.
Tossing the ball into the air Tag got his wand out and moved it as if he were waving at someone, "Arresto Momentum!" Nothing happened but the ball was losing air. Wellllll. Tag was sure he'd said the spell right and with some good voice behind him. There was still time to get it right before it completely fell to the floor. "Arresto Momentum!" He repeated again, though he didn't wave his wand so dangerously- but rather one simple movement. An the ball started to slow down, and gently hit against the fireplace. At least there was no fire burning right now.
They were nearly done with the homework and that made Ella extremely happy because she was starting to get hungry and once that happened, it'd be way more hard to concentrate. She should have brought snacks, y'know? Were those even allowed in here? Hmmm. Anyway, Tobias had slowed the ball again which meant that he had finished the first part of the assignment. "Good job, Tobias!" BEAM. Now if she could just slow down this next one, they could move on.
"Ready!" And she appreciated the warnings so he got a smile too.
Ella watched the ball as it came closer and concentrated hard on slowing it down. She then waved her wand and said clearly as she could, "Arresto Momentum!" SQUINT.
And it was going slow! Still moving and all but not fast enough to do any real harm and that was the whole point, yeah? The seventeen year old watched it for a minute before plucking it out of the year and smiling triumphantly at the younger badger. BEAM!
"Time to stop it now! Here it comes!" TOSS!
Aw yeah. Good job. ANYONE ELSE HEAR THAT? TOBY did GOOD.
Homestretch now, and a good idea not to get distracted. Tobias grinned at Ella's spellwork and gave her a double thumbs up. "Awesome!" Like, awesome job, you know? Were second years supposed to comment on sixth years' spell prowess? Ahh, too late now. MOVING ON.
Stop the ball.
Super Simple Stuff.
"Arresto Momentum!" Tobias said the incantation and gave a waaaave of his wand willing for the ball to just stop, none of that complicated SLOWING DOWN nonsense. And it WORKED. Well... of course it did. Stopping was the part he kind of did by default SO YEAH GOOD TIMES. "Sweet! Okay, your turn."
Ample warning, right? Toby grabbed the ball from the air and threw it in Ella's direction with the exact same force that he'd used all the other times.
Which made him think.
Toby waited until Ella cast her spell before he spoke. "Can you throw it harder this time please?" MAYBE PLEASE? He even took a couple of steps back as well. PLEASE ELLA PLEASE. I WANNA TEST MY SKILLS.

She was at the halfway mark! All she needed to do now was to completely stop a moving object. That didn't sound very easy, but she was a Lockwood so she would manage some way or another. She didn't think the toast that she was using would take much more abuse so she reached into her handy dandy bag and pulled out another fresh piece of toast. Oh yeah, she was prepared.
She took a deep breath and tried to focus solely on the task at hand. She threw the toast in the air. She knew that she wouldn't have much time to think so she immediately waved her wand while saying the proper incantation. "Arresto Momentum!" She couldn't help but to beam when she noticed that her toast froze above her head. It was a pretty cool sight to see and all.
More and more pleased with his abilities to slow the ball, Asher decided to make his next time even more challenging. With wand in hand, he lightly tossed the rubber band ball into the air and immediately commanded "Arresto Momentum!"
The ball did as instructed and slowed to gently land upon the floor. No bounce, no movement after touching the ground.

Cutest kid ever. Like...it just wasn't fair to any of the other kids cause Tobias totally stole ALL the cute. Well, Forrest and Sophie stole some too. Ella returned the thumbs up and just smiled cause she couldn't seem to stop. Little smile magnet, Tobias was.
And then he stopped the ball and Ella nodded, impressed. Good going, kiddo. That meant she was up so she raised her wand and grinned, eyes on the prize.
Concentrationnnnnnn face!
"Arresto Momentum!" Wave of ze wand and BAM! The ball had stopped. Dangerously close to her face, sure, but still stopped. That totally counted and she hadn't even flinched or anything. SKILLS.
WHATWERETHOSEEYES? Was he puppy dog eyeing her? OHMYGOSH! She couldn't stand the cute. SHE COULDN'T. She didn't know whether to squish the kid or punt him off the golden gate bridge because they were working and she couldn't concentrate with those eyes. "I'll throw it harder, no need for those." And she smiled a big smile before taking a few steps back as well.
Now it was time to get to the real work. He needed to actually stop the object before it hit the ground. Wanting to make it even more of a challenge, he grabbed a smaller item out of his bag. He decided to work with a galleon.
After thinking things through for a moment and twirling the galleon around in his hand, Asher decided it was time to start. He tossed the galleon up in the air, aimed his wand and commanded "Arresto Momentum!" The galleon spun and twirled before coming to a halt at his eye level. It was a success. He was very pleased with his work and couldn't wait to try again.

Embrace the eyes, Tobias. BE ONE WITH THE EYES.
... diditwork?
Tobias focused on the scene in front of him properly and noted that Ella had STOPPED DA BALL and telling him to stop with the eyes which meant that they were TOTALLY WORKING. He grinned and readied his wand, but... how exactly did you stop your eyes doing something? Like... did they just continue being regular eyes or...?
Thinking about THE EYE DILEMMA distracted Toby a bit when he really NEEDED to be focused. The ball was flying right at him, faster than before, and the Hufflepuff had to THINKFASTTOPROTECTHISPRETTYFACE.
"Arresto Momentum!" Tobias called out as he waved his wand, and then... it STOPPED. Suspended in mid-air. "Sweet!"
That was all six, right? But Ella still had a couple more to go, so he could just keep practicing until she was done.
"Okay, your go. How many more do you need?" Tobias stepped forward again a little bit to close the gap between them somewhat and held the ball up to kinda show he was about to throw it and then he thREW IT. Not too hard though.
And theeeeeeeeen Toby raised his wand again, to kind of convey that he wanted to practice the spell again even though he was done. BIG GRIN.

Sweet indeed! That meant Tobias was done, yeah? Ella grinned at the younger badger and stepped back a bit, ready for her turn. "I've got one more after this one!" So two to go, technically. And how cute was it that he was trying to be gentle. He knew it wasn't his fault that she'd been hit before, right?
"Arresto Momentum!" And with a wave of her wand, the ball had stopped again. BEAM. They were getting much better at this. "Next time a little harder, okay?" She wanted to see if she could do it faster.
And since Toby still wanted to practice, Ella held up the ball just like he had in warning and then threw it in his direction. Mhm, she did.

She could smell freedom. She was almost completely finished with her homework. She really didn't think that she needed much more practice, but she had to do it if she wanted to pass this year.
She was a bit distracted by everybody around her that seemed to be paired up working on the assignment. Didn't they know that things went much smoother when they only had to depend on themselves? If Hannah didn't have to she was not going to pair up with anybody especially when it involved objects flying. Nope!
Ok, she couldn't lose focus now. There was no room for errors because she was already over this assignment. She just needed to get the toast to stop two more times. She had this in the bag. Her toast was airborne once more. Without any hesitation the sixth year shouted "Arresto Momentum!" with a wave of her wand. That was one still piece of toast. Once again she had managed to stop her object. This assignment was a breeze!

Almost done!
First homework of the term was D O N E. That felt good. Tobias felt ACCOMPLISHED. Booyah.
Now the pressure (or not pressure but... well... y'know) was off, Tobias felt a lot more confident in casting the spell right. He decided to try and slow the ball instead of stopping it, as that was the one he had a little more trouble doing. He nodded at Ella's request to throw the ball harder next time aaaaaand waited.
Then the ball was all 'rawrrr imma getcha' and Tobias was all "Arresto Momentum!" and the ball was all *slows down to half speed* and Tobias was all "Booyah!"
Grinning STILL, Tobias grabbed the ball and looked up at Ella. GRINGRIN. Mini-step back aaaaaaaaaand... he threw the ball at the Quidditch captain with MOAR speed and a bit of a spin.

Asher looked around him to see if anyone had watched him stop his galleon. Much to his disappointment, the other students seemed to be paying attention to what they were doing. Oh well. Time for try number two.
He once again took his galleon out and gently tossed it into the air. The twinkle of gold flitted for only a moment before "Arresto Momentum!" was commanded and the coin immediately stopped. He reached his hand up and pulled the golden coin from over his head. The coin would fly no more. He needed a more difficult object to stop.

Booyah? Ella GRINNED at that and raised her eyebrows slightly, completely amused. This kid was full of catch-phrases, huh? She'd need to start writing them down.
And then the little guy was pitching her a curve ball and Ella's eyes widened slightly as she waved her wand. Don't get hit in the face. Don't get hit in the face."Arresto Momentum!" Blink. BEAM! "Yes!" The ball had totally stopped, did he see?
The blonde plucked it out of the air and then approached the second year, offering her fist for a fist-bump. It felt appropriate given the way they'd just finished that homework. "Nice work, Tobias."

He bent down to dig around in his bag. He wanted to find an object that would be hard to stop. Not finding anything suitable, he decided he would use a chair. That would offer punishment for not accomplishing his task and be much harder to stop and a simple galleon.
Asher lifted a chair up on top of the desk and tied a string to the back of it. He placed himself on the ground, face under where the chair would land, and pulled out his wand. With one hand around the string and the other tightly gripping his wand, he pulled. As the chair started to fall, Asher shouted "ARRESTO MOMENTUM!" just before the chair came crashing down upon his face, it stopped. It had stopped so close to his face that he had to slide sideways to get out from under it.
Asher jumped to his feet and placed the chair back on the ground before giving himself a little pat on the back. He had done it as was quite proud.

BADGERS GET STUFF DONE.
BIG GRINS FOR ELLA. Tobias bounced a little on his toes as she came over because he was all energetic and happy because they had been PRODUCTIVE. He beamed and fist bumped Ella with a confident "Badger Boom!" as their knuckles made contact.
BADGER BOOM inDEED.
"Cheers! Same to you, too, Ella!" Aaaaaaaaaand sorry for acquainting your face with the ball, y'know? "Better go get started on some other work now, huh?" Like the Astronomy homework Toby had been putting off. Ehehe.

Mo snatched the ball up again just as Cat was suggesting they throw at the same time, and he released the ball almost immediately. It was mostly sort of almost heading right for her, just as the apple was coming back towards him.
Maybe he could freeze it in the air even closer than last time? Mo waved his wand as the apple approached, saying clearly, "Arresto Momentum." As he was hoping would happen, the apple slowed to a stop, this time less than a foot from him. He plucked out out of the air and tossed it back again.
"Think fast, Caterina."
Cat made eyes at Mo and grinned. Even if he WAS scoffing at her, she was just grinning back. See? They were being good children. Mostly. Tossing the ball and apple at the same time was a good idea and she would have patted herself on the back except for the fact that she didn't have time to do that because there was a ball headed straight for her.
Couldn't let it smack her in her pretty pretty face. Although she was sure she'd get kisses for that, but nah. Best not. "Arresto Momentum." Cat managed to slow the ball right as the apple was headed her way. Yikes. Two almost at the same time. "Arresto Momentum." She focused her attention on the apple and slowed it down too. Then, she was able to grab them both up. "I feel like I deserve a kiss for that one." Or an approving nod from Professor Facial Hair. Cat tossed the ball back in his direction and, as he had, almost immediately tossed the apple over as well. Go ahead, boyfriend. Wow us.

Merlin, it wasn't his FAULT that he'd thrown both at her too quickly together, but Cat seemed to be taking it to a whole new level. As in she'd thrown the apple and ball practically together, and Mo, who had barely managed to stop ONE object now had to stop two.
He focused on the ball first, since it was small and bouncy and coming first. Just a wave of his wand and a little, "Arresto Momentum"... Somehow, luckily, Mo managed to stop the ball, and he turned his attention quickly (very quickly) to the apple.
Another wave of the wand and "Arresto Momentum." The apple stopped TOO, and Mo grinned happily. His smile faded, though, when the focus on the apple meant he was no longer stopping the ball. It shot forward and hit him in the eye, and Mo clapped both hands to his face with a yelp. Throwing two things was NOT allowed anymore.
He threw the apple back with a bit more intensity than required. "We have to toss both object at each OTHER at the same time. You throw the apple, and I'll throw the ball." Where WAS the ball?
It was still boring to do, but...! The she realized that she was almost done with this practicing lesson and that if she would try it two more times, she would be done for today and she could LEAVE! Oh, she had a lot things she wanted to do, like learning her rats a few new tricks to do, she had really smart rats, you know.... So, she tried it AGAIN, and she hoped that she would be done in a few minutes, so she didn't really did her best while she threw her pink pillow back into the air. "Arresto Momentum" said Sonea lazy while she pointed her want not really interested at her pillow and after she had made a quick waving movement with her wand she saw that she had slowed her pillow, but it still fell down in her outstretched hand, but REALLY slow this time...

After the utter relief that she had managed to slow down the book without hitting anyone with it, she decided to pay MORE attention to where she was going to throw the book. Just in case she like..failed in slowing it down. Not that she hadn't gotten the spell right, but anything could happen. She'd rather not have to take anyone to the healer's.
Perhaps she should not use the book? Maybe use something lighter and preferably that had no edges that'd poke someone's eye out. Not feeling like wasting time while searching for another item she settle on facing the wall. Seemed like the perfect solution for now.
After picking up the book, the fifth-year stood facing the wall carrying her wand and book. She brought her hand backward then let for of the book as she brought it back forward. As the book flew into the air, her wand was already pointing at it right when she spoke. "Arresto Momentum," That should do it, eh?
She totally was concentrating.
Cassia remained standing watching the book slowing down then plunging down a couple of feet from the wall. Good.

Now she was meant to------- what.. there was a random ball flying at her. Sarah took out her wand quickly. She did not want it to hit her at all, never mind at a slow pace... She would have to stop it. "Arresto Momentum" she said waving her wand thinking of the ball stopping in a midair. Her eyes were clenched close, as a sort of reflex that she always had. No one could understand how closing ones eyes would make it better.. yet it was sort of a habit.
Sarah opened her eyes and behold the ball was just sitting (or standing.. she did not know as balls don't have legs) in mid air. She was going to let the others in the room know about it, yet in the end decided to let the person find their lost ball on their own. It was not like the ball was hard to see.
Ha! This was the last time she was going to do the practicing work! She knew that practicing was important and the best way to learn things, but it was really boring to do the same spell over and over and OVER!!! So, she was now really happy that this would be the last time she was going to do this and than she could LEAVE this practicing room and to do her own things! Already smiling because she was almost done she threw her pink pillow, for the last time, into the air and pointed her wand at it. "Arresto Momentum", she made AGAIN a waving movement with her wand and ... she stopped her pillow, right in the air! Her smile widened, she was done now AND she had done it good, again!
Still smiling she grabbed her pink pillow and left the practicing room, FINALLY!
So much for a smooth transition into the next type. Now that she had already practiced on a ball that part, she should use a different object. To add variety and challenge. A ball was a big object.. or relatively so. But a smaller or lighter object would add its challenge. She was prepared though. She deflated the ball she had brought and placed it in her bag. She then withdrew from her bag a bottle of bubbles, also from her cousin's party. She opened it and blew through the soapy circle and a few bubble's escaped.
Sarah quickly closed the jar tightly and took out her wand. By now the bubbles were escaping everywhere and she had to stop them. "Arresto Momentum" she said with a wave of her wand. picturing the bubble stopping. She looked again... the bubbles had gone. Well they had popped on the floor so Sarah used her wand to quickly clear that up.
Obviously she did not know how to stop bubbles. Sarah put the jar back in her satchel and took out a stick. It was the stick she always carried around in case the situation required a coracle. She threw the stick in the air, "Arresto Momentum" she casted and the stick froze.. nice going
Almost as soon as she had sent the balls flying towards Adrienne than they were coming right back at her! "Arresto Momentum!" she cried, trying to dodge the balls (even though she knew they would just follow her due to the Oppugno spell) and thinking hard about them stopping. Thank Merlin, they did. Right in front of her (puberty infested?) nose.
She barely had time to relax when a quaffle came whizzing toward her head too! Since this one was just thrown by Adrienne and there wasn't any accompanying spell along with it she just did a stop, drop, and roll move which brought her up to her feet facing her opponent. She reached out and grabbed one of the balls which was still hanging in midair from when she stopped it and threw it at Adrienne. Hard. She expected her friend to stop it of course, but if she didn't she knew that she would feel awful. Especially if it hit her face. That would be a hell of a time in the Hospital Wing for both of them.
She reached for the other ball and chucked that at Adrienne as well before grabbing up the rest of the balls she had brought. She threw those in quick succession at different heights, hoping to confuse her. Common, get at least one hit in! Not a hard hit of course, but Tora was hoping to hit her friend at least once. For being late.
Adrienne glared as Tora just ducked the ball. That was so not what you were supposed to do; they were practising Charms, weren't they? So why not cast a charm? But she supposed she did stop the other two, so it was acceptable. Acceptable as- WHOA, things coming towards her, fast! Reflexively, she just leaned out of the way, but her wand was out now, so she should probably use it.
"Arresto momentum!" she said and the second one slowed in midair. No, that wasn't what she wanted she wanted it to stop- but before she got a chance to try recasting the spell, a small rubber ball hit her on her right shoulder. "OW!" Adrienne exclaimed, her voice coming out embarrassingly high. She opened her mouth to berate Tora about it, but there were more balls flying towards her. "Arresto momentum," she said again, and to her relief the whole group slowed down. Except for one of them, that was thrown after she cast the spell, but thankfully she managed to bat that one off of its course towards her face.
Adrienne simply began hurling them back in Tora's direction, and she got so into it that she actually drop-kicked one of the slow-moving midair balls. Heh. That was fun.

Charms homework. Okay, so.... yeah she had to do this because house points mattered a lot to her. Kat made her way to the Charms Practice Room because, apparently, they can't do the homework anywhere except here. She might be wrong, but it was safer to do it in the practice room where it was just practice. Just. No dueling and no "accidentally" hitting people with spells. Yeah, Kat knew those habits because even she had them. Well, sometimes, but she still did.
Once she arrived at the Practice Room, Kat first looked around for familiar faces. Most of them were familiar to the seventh year, but she did not know of their names nor did she even know them personally. Maybe by face, yes. She might've seen them down the hallway or the corridor to wherever she was headed, or maybe during her patrolling and doing her important Head Girl stuff. Ugh, hassle. She gave small waves to the familiar people like Ella, Cassia, and her apparent nickname!twin Cat. But she wasn't here for that, she was here for homework.
Ugh. Homework. But she had to choice unless she didn't want Slytherin to get any points, you know. It was all about dedication to her right now. She searched her pocket for something to throw up in the air and found a sickle. Yeah, she kept a lot of them since she'd be making trips to the library this term... and payment you know. Psssh. The charm was easy, by the way, but she'd start it off with slowing it down. Kat tossed the sickle into the air and prepared herself. "Arresto Momentum," she said with a wave of her hand and the sickle slowed down. Then she caught it with the palm of her free hand, her left hand.
See? Easy as pie.

Now she only needed to practice one more time. Not that she did not practice charms, she normally did charm work throughout the day, yet this was done for the sake of practicing.
Sarah grabbed the stick from where it was hanging in the air. She looked at it as it lay in her hands before sending it up in the air, she forgot to do the spell, yet her quidditch and netball reflexes got her to catch the stick anyway.
She sent it up in the air again, this time making sure to cast the spell "Arresto Momentum" she said thinking of the stick freezing. It did.
Sarah grabbed the stick and put it in her bag. She then returned her wand to where it usually was. She looked around the air making sure she left nothing behind. Good- all it well. With the practice over she walked out of the room
Her FIRST Charms assignment. That was exciting, wasn't it?! This particular one was easy enough, too, Sophie thought. "Arrestooooo momentum..." she murmured thoughtfully to herself, over and over again the whole way to the room as she walked with Taylor, contemplating the pronunciation and various ways to emphasize the syllables. Some ways of saying the incantation would certainly be more effective than the others, right? Hmm... Sophie tried to recall the way Fuller had originally spoke the incantation. She could hear his sweet, sweet voice stressing... the second syllable... of both words, yeah? She tried saying it that way a few times before giving it a nod of approval. REST. MENT. Cool.
With an apple and orange in her possession - not entirely sure of what Taylor wanted to use for their homework, nor had she even looked to see if the girl had brought anything of her own - Sophie held open the door of the practice room for her SUPER COOL OLDER Ravenclaw accomplice. "So how d'you wanna do this? Should we... stand across the room a bit from each other and toss something and try to slow it down or stop it? And take turns tossin' back and forth till we've got it down?" Or what? Taylor was the expert on Hogwarts assignments, probably.
And though Sophie was trying to seem really calm and cool, she was REALLY excited to be working with a seventh year. A seventh year. SHE WAS GOING TO LEARN FROM A PRO. "Oh, and I brought these two fruits 'cause I didn't know what we should use," she shrugged, removing them from deep in her robe pockets. "Have anything better?"
