Ancient Runes Lesson 2 : Transfiguration Runes : Granians
It is the last Ancient Runes class for the term, the noticeboard says to head to the grounds for an outside lesson. It's not hard to find the spot where Botros wants you all to meet, he's standing just outside the castle, with his cane clutched tightly in front of him. A widespread of green grass stretches in this well-kept spot and if you walk further on you can see the lake, the whomping willow, and the forbidden forest. A few boulders scatter here and there but other than that they are out in the open with nothing but the green of spring and the slightly chilly breeze.
You can sit on the grass if you want to, or use the few clean tree logs that the professor provided for the sissies kids who did not prefer to unite with the nature.
ooc:
- Class has started, please don't announce your late arrival unless you're ready to deal with the consequences!
- Please familiarize/refresh yourself with the rules & guidelines for attending this class before posting.
- IC-date is May 14th at 8 am.

The horse only moved slightly this time, but Wade hummed little songs to it while petting. His smiled brightened while watching it's grey hair turn white and bright.. until it was finally done. "Wow, that looks amazing Spiffy." Alec said it, they made a great team. "You know it." Wade then fully gave him a bro fist for the pumping.
"Yeah, looks like it." It was time for the carving. Surely Mr. Horsie here wouldn't be as nervous anymore now. Hmm, which to use first. "I can put Raidho on it, since Sowilo is so you. " Smiling, it could be even more powerful with Alec performing it.
"Anytime! And... thanks!" For the luck. It looked like it had really worked because... look at their horse! Alec couldn't have been more proud of their teamwork. And he was happy that things hadn't gone wrong or that they hadn't ended up hurting the horse. That would have been really bad, yeah?
Patting the horse affectionately, the boy grinned over at Wade. Looks like Curly had noticed too! "Thanks, mate! Awesome job on your part too!" Also. Bro fistbumps. Those were the BEST, did he know? Pausing the patting for a moment, the seventeen year old reached over and fistbumped Wade back. YEAH. Bro moment. Bros. Nodnod.
The fact that Wade had decided to take on Raidho made Alec REALLY happy. There was no way he was going to mention just how much difficulty he had with that rune, especially with its Galdr. So... yeah. Thank you, Curly. "Awesome! Now we just fix the runestones onto the saddle and invoke the Galdrs, yeah?" Without waiting for an answer, Alec reached into his bag and took out the runestone for Sowilo and held it in his hand.
"I think we should call him Nightmare." Hah. Get it, Nigel? Nightmare. Like the horse. Alice cracked up, not pausing to wonder if her partner appreciated bad puns as much as Mo did. And if he didn't... well.. why not?
Because it was just so funny.
She had to stop admiring her incredible pun skills when Nigel's voice cut into her thoughts. The spell? Oh. Um. "Want to split it up? I can do the horse's back, and you can do the neck?" It seemed like a good way to divide the work. Glancing over at the horse, Alice began fixing the Thurisaz rune to the tip of her wand. "You can cast first."
Sigh. Just when Nigel thought he heard all the bad puns possible from Mo. Alice just started making them. So punny the both of them. No wonder they get along. "Okay, We will call him Nightmare" Why does he go along with these puns.
"Alright That sounds good"
Nigel walked over to the neck of Nightmare and waved his wand like Botros did. ""Mutare Fibula" With is intent clear of course. Don't want no hurt horse. Especially one we had just named.
Nigel waited for Alice to finish before they moved on to the saddle.

See? Nigel was such a good sport, no wonder Mo liked him so much. Alice was beginning to appreciate his laid back nature, too. She stepped back a bit to get a better view of her partner's casting, watching in silent awe as the horse's neck began to pale. It wasn't too long before the hair on it had grown significantly, color altered to be a bright white, and then it was her turn.
"Mutare Fibula." Waving her wand across its back, intent clear in her mind, Alice took another step away. The granian's wings began shrinking and slowly mending with its back to finish off an appearance that looked nothing similar to what she and Nigel had started with.
"... holy son of a garden gnome." Pardon the language.

Nigel watch and waited until Alice completed the spell and was also in awe at the transformation of their horse. Magic was pretty awesome. So right saddles next. The were already on the horse thanks to the new Groundskeeper and we had to put a rune into the saddle Alright.
"I guess i will use Sowilo". Now all they need was a laid back horse that like magic. That would be great. Nigel went into his rune set and took out Sowilo and used the same glue spell to keep the rune in place. Now all that was left was the galdr.
"sowilo sowilo sowilo, ssssssssss, ssssoooollll, su sa si se so, us as is es os, so se si sa su........ssssssssss"
It made him sound like a demented snake. Oh Fun. But at least that part was over. Now Alice's turn.

... Wait... "You want to go first, mate?"
Wade smiled with Alec as they were both petting Mr. Horsie. "I think we'll have to name this guy pretty soon." In case he had any ideas for naming, since Wade didn't at the moment. They had already gotten so close to it.
Nodding with Alec, "Yeah, sounds good." Wade then reached into the bag to get the Raidho runestone. He gave the horse some more gentle pats and strokes telling it, "You're doing wonderful, we'll be done grooming you very soon." Well, that was one way of describing their pretty-fying it.
Did he want to go first? "Sure, I can go first." Stepping back a moment, he cleared his throat. Right. Just carve onto the saddle and it'll be alright. He lightly brushed his tongue against the roof of his mouth a little too. R's can get tricky, especially with Wade's tendency to add his hidden Norwegian accent to it.
Finally, concentrating on the saddle, before fixing to the saddle with his wand attaching it, he chanted, "Raidho Raidho Raidho... r r r r r r r r r... ru ra ri re ro... rudh radh ridh redh... rodh... (rut rat rit ret rot)... or er ir ar ur... r r r r r r r r r..." He could feel the energy within him as it glowed, remaining concentrated on how helpful this rune will be to help them safely.. and that was it. He raised his brows momentarily at Alec, now it was his turn.

Give the horse a name? "Yeah!" he said, rather enthusiastically, "Erm... did you have a name in mind?" Unless they decided to give the horse a name that combined their own names? Was that even doable? Wade and Alec... Elisabeth-Potter and Summers... This one needed to be thought through.
Erm... grooming? With a confused expression spread across his face, Alec looked up and over at Wade. What did he mean? Were they going to ruffle the horse's hair? Or give it a makeover? Or invite it to one of their blanket forts? ... He... would find out later. Right now, though, he was just going to pat the horse. Pat pat pat...
... And the rune was being invoked! Grinning, Alec kept on patting the horse, trying to calm it down. Because it was moving, slightly. Probably had something to do with the amount of magic, yeah? Yeah... the boy started making shushing noises for the horse to add onto the patting. There there, Granian. It wasn't going to be that bad.
He was done? The seventeen year old looked over at Wade's work and gave him a bro!nod of approval. Awesome job, Curly! Except now... this meant that it was hit turn to invoke his own rune. HEY Sowilo! Alec placed the runestone on the saddle and glued it on using the same spell Botros had used before. Right... Sowilo... Sowilo... this one was positive. And talking about strength in time of trouble. And the horse wasn't going to get hurt, that was important, too!
Taking a deep breath, Alec closed his eyes momentarily, trying to get rid of any other thoughts in there. Opening them again, he touched the runestone one last time before starting with the chant. "Sowilo sowilo sowilo... s s s s s s s s s... s s s o o o l l l... su sa si se so..." Concentration. LOTS of it! "(sul sal sil sel sol)... us as is es os... si se su sa su... s s s s s s s s s..."
And... the runestone GLOWED! The Hufflepuff looked up at the Head Boy and GRINNED. They made a BRILLIANT team!

Reason: I made a typo thing
Botros held the Hufflepuff boy's hand, "I have a partner for you, son." He led him to the other young Slytherin.
"Good job, dear. You can partner up with Mr. Lecium over here. He's a bright student as well." He gave them a proper smile and left to see who still needed a partner.
Maika smiled shyly, her cheeks coloring a little, at the Hufflepuff boy. "Hello. I'm Maika Dorian. Pleased to meet you." She went over to pet the horse's muzzle, taking it slow. "So, do you want to cast or should I?"

"Hmm.. I'm not sure." Wade's brows furrowed as he tried to think of a good name for the horsie. He gave it a good look over.. Huh. "Well, I think it's a girl.. how's Nicole sound?" With the exception of Peppy, all his named stuffed animals were boys.
When it came to Alec's turn to carve, "You can do it, Spiffy!" His fist raised slightly to cheer him on. Watching as it glowed and everything, in between singing sweet lullabies for the horsie and patting her gently. It wasn't easy either, since Wade loved seeing shiny and bright things.
Finally though it ended, and he beamed back at Alec. "Brilliant work, mate!" Giving him another bro fist pump before facing the horse again, "You did amazing, thanks for trusting us." Giving it another pat and stroke. So then, what was next?

"Sowilo." Sowilo. Hm. Energy and strength seemed like good things today, not to mention the positive energy that came with the rune. With a nod of agreement, Alice watched Nigel chant the Galdr, keeping her fingers crossed for a chill horse who wouldn't go all nuts on them like Botros' granian had.
And, of course, it started kicking at the ground and neighing pitifully. Perfect.
She carefully extended a hand towards the horse's back, patting him gently and trying to calm him down. He was supposed to be a toughie, okay? Alice didn't do wimps. "Relax, little guy. It's just magic. Don't be so unstable." LOL, did Nigel catch that pun, too? So good at this.
Cheesy grin in place, the sixth year began digging through her bag of runes, trying to find something to calm their horse down. "Ehwaz means horse, and it actually assists with travel. It also stands for a respect for the source of power and energy, which could... maybe help convince the granian we respect him? It's supposed to let him know we take his needs and desires into consideration, too, and aren't just using him as a slave." Or something. "But Laguz stands for counseling and confronting fears, as well as stabilizing the mind. It could help him out, too."
Alice peeked into her runestone set. "You wanna choose which one to use, and I'll cast it?"

It was true that Nightmare did look a little bit unsettled when Nigel was doing the galdr. Which was to be expected from a horse. But it did not call for Alice to continue using the puns. "Come on Alice, quit horsing around" Yeah now he was using puns.
While actually thinking of more horse puns. The Ravenclaw listened to her explain the two runes she wanted to use and the second sounded the best. "Laguz sounds a little better for this situation. With Nightmare being a little afraid of magic."
But the finally decision was hers of course.

That was one heck of a pun, and Alice had to offer Nigel a fistbump for that one. "Ehwaz is associated with the myth Sleipnir, too, and..." Oh. He wanted to use Laguz instead? Personally, she would have chosen the other, but he was the Ravenclaw and her partner, so his opinion was taken into serious consideration. Yep. She had asked for his opinion and stuff.
Laguz it was.
"Adhaero." After sticking the runestone to the saddle, she began speaking the Galdr, as focused and concentrated as could be. "laguz laguz laguz l l l l l l l l l lu la li ke l lug lag lig leg log ul al il el ol lo le li la lu l l l a a a g g g u u u l l l l l l l l l." It immediately began glowing against the saddle, but instead of going berserk this time, the granian seemed to calm somewhat. This was success, yeah?
"Guess he's stable-ized now." Hah. Hahaha. Another fistbump, Nigel?

Names? Hmm. "It would be great if you give him a name yourself. More bonding." He nodded approvingly. Their CoMC professor wasn't a resident professor so she hadn't named all the Granians, the groundskeeper didn't tell him anything about their names either so Botros figured it would be best for the students to call them whatever they liked.
Everyone was doing well so far, talking to their horses and fixing runestones to the saddles. Botros was happy.

You were the one who thought to ask, after all." It somehow made him feel much better about things to know their Granian had a name.
He considered her rune suggestions with absolute sincerity. Dagaz might not be an obvious choice, but it would be good to tie in the other rune since they hadn't used them both. Plus it was often used to ensure success, and they could certainly use that. Algiz was a good option, as was Raidho. "What about Ehwaz? It actually means horse, and can also refer to travel. It has more to do with respecting the creature as a source of life and energy too, which I really like. If you pick one, and I pick one... or we could just do all four. Dagaz, Algiz, Raidho, and Ehwaz. Better to be safe, you know?"
Mo could start. He used an "Adhaero" to stick the Ehwas rune to the saddle before speaking the Galdr. "ehwaz ehwaz ehwaz e e e e h w a a a z ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu e e e e h w a a a z."
Now it was Nicola's turn to choose a rune.
Nicola's eyes lit up when Botros had given them permission to name the Granians themselves. She nodded when he mentioned more bonding, which made total sense. Better chances of them succeeding with this lesson as well. When she saw Mo bow a little bit, she raised an eyebrow with a smile not sure why he had done so, but then when he told her she could name him, she picked up on why he'd bowed. What a gentleman.
Names. Names. What should she name him. So many different names were spiraling through her head until she landed on one. Nicola looked at Mo and then the Granian, then back at Mo. "How about Alexei?" She remembered having a horse back home as a child named Alexei. He was one of her favorites. Besides it sounded like quite an uncommon name she didn't hear too often, so why not name their friend here Alexei? That is, if Mo liked it too of course.
Next thing to do was decide on which runes they could use for their saddle. She listened to Mo after he had agreed with her suggestions. Then he mentioned the rune Ehwaz & Nicola smiled before she nodded to agree with him. "Ehwaz is a good one too.." He went on to suggest them using several different runes for the saddle & Nicola thought that was a really good idea. Better chance of the saddle to stay on. Brilliant ideas.
Once he finished casting his rune, Nicola used Adhaero as she stuck the Raidho rune to the saddle. She took a breath for she began to speak, "raidho raidho raidho... r r r r r r r r r... ru ra ri re ro... rudh radh ridh redh... rodh... (rut rat rit ret rot)... or er ir ar ur... r r r r r r r r r..." Nicola smiled at Mo and then shrugged a bit before suggesting, "I suppose I might as well do another? And you can do the last?"
Using Adhaero once more, this time to stick her Dagaz rune to the saddle like before. She was soon heard saying, "dagaz dagaz dagaz dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z du da di de do dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh odh edh idh adh udh od ed ud ad ud d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z.."
Looking over at Mo as she waited for him to do the last rune.
Kace smiled to the girl. He held out his hand being friendly, "Hey Maika, I'm Kace Lecium but mostly people call me Kace." he grinned and joked with her a bit. "Uhh.... if you are comfortable you can start first." he said with a bright smile. "But if you are not i can go." he assured her.
"Oh no, I'm fine." Her smile brightened a little more and she moved over to the side of the horse. Concentrating, she held the rune over her wand, moving as if she had been practicing a dance instead. Well really, when you're small, waving your wand over the length of a horse kinda forces you to move a little.
"Mutare Fibula..."
She watched excitedly as the spell took effect, and her face was full of wonder. She turned to Kace, swinging her arms behind her back, holding her hands together with a happy look. "There! Now we just need to prepare him."

He heard Adi tell him to do the spell again, so he took out his wand and pointed at the neck of the horse. He did the wand movement and said "Mutare Fibula!" and watched as the spell took effect. The horse was not happy about that either, but Caleb ran his hands over it's neck and tried to calm it down.
"It does NOT like this," he said.
Adi continued patting the horse as Caleb did the spell. He needed to keep it calm. Poor horses. Too bad they didn't like the magic. "Nope, they don't,'' he agreed with Caleb. "See? That wasn't too bad,'' the first year said to the horse.
So. Moving on! "I think I'm going to use Sowilo,'' he said as he retrieved the runestone. "What about you?'' Cos you know, as the Professor said the runes should not contradict each other.
Adi stuck his runestone to the saddle and began to chant. "Sowilo, Sowilo, Sowilo...(sul sal sil sel sol)... us as is es os... si se su sa su... s s s s s s s.'' There! The runestone began its glow just as the horse began to nervously paw the ground again. "Calm down, boy. It's all right.'' Cue more patting. And it was Caleb's turn now!
curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog
Ugh, why didn't Caleb have his Uncle Alex here with him? He was all about this rune stuff - it was his job! Instead he just had to wing it, but follow Adi's lead as well. He didn't know why he was struggling so much in this class. It was wayyyy harder than he thought it would be.
Ok, so what rune was he going to choose? Something that didn't act against Sowilo..."I think I'm gonna go with Fehu. It means wealth and new beginnings," he said. That was kind of like success and goal setting right? If you were successful, you got RICH. Yes. They went together just fine, in Caleb's mind.
Now time to attach it and do the chanting thing. "Fehu, fehu, fehu...f f f f f f f f f...fu fa fi fe fo...of ef if af uf...f f f f f f f f f" he chanted.
That was HARD. So many weird sounds and noises! BUT to his surprise, the rune started to glow! HE'D DONE IT!
Horsey didn't like it though. He let out a small grunt and started to paw at the ground again, so Caleb reached forward and soothingly patted his neck. "Ssh, ssh, it's ok, all done!" he said.

Sophie's partner hadn't said much yet, so Sophie sort of figured she needed to take some kind of initiative. She looked at her partner first, then Botros, and then the horse. So before she really got good and started, she needed to more or less make friends with her horse.
Lovely.
"Sooo...," she said to the horse. "I don't really know what I'm doing in this class, which shouldn't make you feel too bad, but I think I'm supposed to put some runes on your saddle. It'd be really awesome if you'd just stand there quietly and let me get that done." She reached out and sloooowly brought her hand to the horse and began to pat him.
We good now, horse? Because I'm about to get started...
Once he'd seen most of the horses had turned Grani-ish. Botros stood next to his horse that he shared with the two girls, and cleared his throat loudly. Pause. Okay, no one could hear him over the sounds of horses and discussion. No worries, he had the solution. "Attention, kids!" With a sonorus charm, it worked.
"Well done, everyone, I see some glowing runes from over here where I stand." He smiled widely at them, and continued, "Now. This is going to be the portion where I grade your participation in the practical part of this lesson. Listen to me carefully, please." He put a hand on the horse's back and slid it backwards. "To ride a Granian is just like riding a broomstick. Easier, even, because there's a comfortable saddle and a strong neck to hold on to. You don't have to be a skilled horserider to do it. Besides, you have all those runes that you've invoked to help." Runes to the rescue! "To ride your horse, first you need to caress the very back of his backbone, gently and surely." Ab did so, and the Granian kicked the ground once before squatting on his hinges. "He'll bend down for you if you have good communication with him before, he'll trust you to ride him. If not, he won't bend and you'll have to climb the saddle while he's up." Hopefully the horse won't run while a student was hanging there half-up. Get it? Okay.
"Now, one of you is going to lead the horse. The other one will be continuously invoking the runes on the saddle before they weaken or lose their magic." Botros turned to the path leading further from the castle. "You have to ride the horse on this path until you reach the Groundskeeper's hut. There are small ponds of water that your horse will jump over, some thorny bushes in the way, some boulders, he'll dodge them on his own. Keeping your runes invoked will help him." Botros stayed standing next to his horse and gave them all an encouraging smile.
"If there are no questions, you all may begin. The first horseriders to reach the hut will get five extra points." Pause.
ooc: - This is the final activity and the Finals; worth 15 points + 5 EC for the first winners.
- RP your character riding on the horse; one poster will guide the horse through the path, the other should keep the runes invoked by chanting Galdrs; RP overcoming some obstacles like small ponds/bushes/boulders; reach the Groundskeeper's hut & descend.
- You need at least 5 posts to get to the Groundskeeper's hut & to get full credit.
- The winner is the first riders on one horse to have reached the groundskeeper's hut, by posting their 5 posts.
- I will keep the lesson open until 29th this month.
- Any questions you may PM/DM/Tweet/Skype me or ask the professor IC.
- Have fun with this and don't be scared to go crazy!
Professor! :: Post #3 for the second activity, then moving on to the final activity.

Umm...wait, what?!
At this point, Sophie didn't care about the five extra points. She was so far behind that she'd be really lucky to just catch up at this point. She probably should do some more communicating with her horse, but seeing as she still needed to fix the runes onto the horse's saddle before trying to ride it, she should really just try her luck and move on.
She raised her wand and sort of waved it over the horse. "Mutare Fibula!" she said. The poor horse's wings shrunk down to nothing. Sophie patted the horse. "Sorry about that. Points and all..." Lucky for her, the horse didn't really protest like Botros' horse did.
She then began saying the chant to add the first rune to the saddle. Fehu, because she knew that chant off the top of her head. Lucky her. "Fehu, fehu, fehu...f f f f f f f f f...fu fa fi fe fo...of ef if af uf...f f f f f f f f f," she said. The rune glowed, and Sophie grinned. At least things were coming along and not being all difficult for her.
Now for another. Err... Raidho! Okay then. "Raidho Raidho Raidho... r r r r r r r r r... ru ra ri re ro... rudh radh ridh redh... rodh... (rut rat rit ret rot)... or er ir ar ur... r r r r r r r r r...," she chanted. The second rune glowed. This was just AWESOME. Things were, for once, working out for her in Ancient Runes.
Fehu and Raidho, which was hope for a lucky ride.
"Professor, I'm done," she said. "You riding with us?" Because her partner was Merlin knew where now, and Sophie had a final to finish.

Names were hard to think of, Alec knew that. It was the reason as to why he took... what? Three days to name his puppy? Yeah. If it wasn't for Ells, Chip would probably have remained nameless. But... despite this, Alec was still going to help the guy think of the perfect name. Think... think... "Nicole?" Nicole the horse... Alec tilted his head and patted the horse some more. "Hey... Nicole?" The horse turned his head towards Alec, making the boy grin. "Yeah... Nicole's perfect! Good job, Curly!"
The encouragement from his partner? Yeah... very much appreciated. Nodnod. And what else was appreciated were the lullabies that were being sung because it helped to keep the horse at bay. Which was especially good since he didn't know what he'd do if the horse ran away while he had still been invoking the runes. So... yeah. Thanks Curly!
"Thanks, mate!" he said, grinning at the boy. ... And... yeah. Someone else did need to be congratulated too. "Yeah... what Curly said. Awesome job, Nicole!" And this did form a new bond between them and the horse, right? Which meant that the horse was likely to let them ride on her towards the...
... Goundskeeper's hut, according to Botros.
Alec turned his attention away from the horse and over towards the older man. ... Wait... this was meant to be as easy as riding a broomstick? Wait. EASIER?! Alec looked over at Wade, eyebrows raised, before looking back at Botros. It was a good thing both of them had been on the Qudditch them, then. This shouldn't be too hard, right?
There was only one way to find out.
The seventeen year old grinned as he turned his attention back towards Wade and their horse. "So... do you want to lead the horse or invoke the runes onto the saddle?" Alec didn't really mind which one he did but the sound of leading a horse when he hadn't ridden one before -- and especially when there were obstacles in the way -- scared the boy slightly. But... he'd let Wade decide. Yeah.

It was time, it was timeeee!
Ella bounced a little on the balls of her feet and smiled up at Botros, eager to hear the directions. The sooner they knew what they needed to do, the sooner they could get started!
...
If this was easier than riding a broom than they wouldn't have any problems at all, yeah? That was comforting. Especially because they'd be facing obstacles on their way to the hut and would need to be able to stay on the horse. Speaking of, how was the big guy doing? The blonde badger continued to gently strong its neck in what she hoped was a calming manner. No worries, Mr. horse, you're in good hands.
Now they just needed to decide who was doing what so they could get started. "Erm so...did you want to guide the horse, Tag?" He didn't seem to be a fan of the galdr stuff and Ella didn't mind it so much so maybe she could do that part.

Aww, wasn't that sweet. "I think she likes you, mate." That was definitely a good thing. Wade beamed as Alec was getting all snuggly with Nicole. He stroked her a little more too, "Thatta girl, Nicole." Gently pats for being so loving to her daddies.
So then, now their next adventure was to the Groundskeeper's Hut.. oh.. Wade blinked at that. Yeah, he hadn't been there since last term, with Mr. Firth once being there. That was definitely another obstacle for him. He almost didn't hear the rest until Alec asked him something. "Hm?" *Blink* "Oh right. Well, I can work on the runes, how's that sound?" He smiled at Alec. He had been a leader this whole year, and it definitely time to give Alec a taste of it, oh and he would get a chance to actually ride a horse-like animal. Win. Win.
"Come on, I'll get you up there." Wade patted the side of Nicole first, to give her a little warning, before moving to her backbone where he caressed very gently. Sure enough, Nicole was a real trooper, lowering herself just for Alec first. "Good girl." Extra pats for her. It was time to giddy up, Spiffy. Heh.
Yeah, Penelope was pleased that they'd chosen a horse that liked food. Or at least...a lot of it. She assumed. Since probably most of them liked food because who wouldn't like food? But maybe this one liked more than the average one. Which meant they had an above average horse, which meant it was awesome. Totally fitting.
And Ascanius was all cute talking to the horse and mentioning her liking food too. D'aww.
Oh but right, the spell. "Um...I guess I can try. With the mane, at least. You'd probably be better with the wings than me." 'Cause she hadn't got to practice much and the mane seemed like it would be the easiest part for her since wings were bigger and would be a lot more for her to have to focus on to transfigure properly than the mane.
Pulling out the Dagaz rune, she placed it in her hand with her wand then took a deep breath. "Mutare fibula," she said, moving her wand in the wave-like motion by the mane, trying to focus on changing it to white...
...it seemed like it was working, but as soon as she noticed that it was, it stopped. Horse had only a half-white mane. Merlin.
Halfway there at least? Not as much left to transfigure? Positive thoughts were good, yes. "Mutare fibula," she said again, once again moving her wand in a wave, focusing on the mane turning all the way to white...
....and then....finally...it worked? Mostly? It looked like it? Cool. That worked better for her than most spells seemed to.
She smiled. "Okay. Your turn," she said to Ascanius, petting the horse's neck with her free hand again.
He was moderately impressed with himself at the moment. He always found that working with Pen made him slightly more distracted then the average partner and something as complex as this assignment would definitely mean they needed to get their work done. But look at them. They were working together functionally and things were chugging along at a nice pace. Smirk.
The fifth year stood back as she took the lead on the mane part of the assignment. It took her two tries but eventually she got what they needed done and he was up.
Brushing past her and casually squeezing her arm reassuringly, he approached the horse and tilted his head to look at the wings. They had never really covered if this was going to cause any discomfort or pain to the horse, but it was too late now, yeah?
Mmk, horse. Now it was time to lose the wings. 'Sides, Ascanius didn't want any part of that flying nonsense, so he had no qualms getting rid of such extraneous limbs. No wings meant no flying, which meant no problem.
He twirled his wand around in his hand like a drumstick and focused only on the wings before he began the swish motion, "Mutare fibula." There was a brief pause and then the wings of the thing began to contort and meld into its body.
Cool. Now all they had left was the runes and-

They were officially moving on. S'cool. They could do the runes as they went, yeah? It would all get accomplished.
He turned to Pen and said, "You work on building some bond with this thing and I'll do the runes, yeah?" Aka. He wasn't riding that thing.
Ascanius had been down the horse road before. He'd stick to his motorbike, thanks.

They were being instructed to move on again, and Mo listened carefully to Botros before turning back to Nicola with an infectious little grin. Now they got to ride the horse! Oh, but first...
"Lemme put on the last rune, just to keep us safe in the saddle," Mo dug through his rune set again, this time pulling out the Algiz. He looked for an unobtrusive spot to add it to the saddle before opting to stick it next to the Dagaz regardless. "Adhaero." Mo pointed his wand at the rune and carefully spoke out the Galdr for it. "Algiz algiz algiz z z z z z z z z z uz az iz ez uz oz ez iz az uz z z z z z z z z z."
There, they were set. "I think Alexei is a perfect name for him, although I'll probably just end up calling him by some goofy pet name instead." Not to be dismissive of the name she had chosen, but Mo was a nicknamer by nature. That wasn't going to change just because he wasn't dealing with a human.
"I think you should ride, and I'll lead the horse," Mo offered. He was trying to be gallant. He would love to ride, obviously, but it made more sense for Nicola to do it. He'd look like a toad if he made her lead him around on a horse. Besides, maybe he could ride when they got to the Gamekeeper's hut.

Botros was moving the lesson forward & Nicola knew exactly where that was going! That meant it was finally time to do some riding! Something that she was anticipating this ENTIRE lesson! And it was about to finally happen!
FINALLY!
Looking at Mo, she gave him a nod as he went to put on the last rune on their saddle. While he did that, she went over towards Alexei, which Mo agreed to liking that name, to pat his neck lightly. Not too long after he had finished putting the last rune on their saddle, it looked like the both of them were all set to get things rolling & start riding!
She couldn't help but find him more entertaining as he told her about giving Alexei some goofy pet name, which sparked curiosity to hear this supposed nickname. It honestly wouldn't be too shocking if she ended up saying the nickname as well! "So what kind of goofy pet names are sparking your brain then, might I ask?" She let out a small chuckle, while giving Alexei another soft pat.
Then he suggested that he lead the horse while she rode. A wide smile came across her lips almost instantly. That was all she could do, was just smile. Although technically, she wouldn't be really riding the horse, because Mo was going to be leading her, kind of like one of those children rides at a petting zoo. BUT, nonetheless, she'd give anything just to be on a horse, even if it was only for a few moments. So in response to him Nicola smiled once again before giving him another nod, "S'Alright with me.."
