Ancient Runes Lesson 2 : Transfiguration Runes : Granians
It is the last Ancient Runes class for the term, the noticeboard says to head to the grounds for an outside lesson. It's not hard to find the spot where Botros wants you all to meet, he's standing just outside the castle, with his cane clutched tightly in front of him. A widespread of green grass stretches in this well-kept spot and if you walk further on you can see the lake, the whomping willow, and the forbidden forest. A few boulders scatter here and there but other than that they are out in the open with nothing but the green of spring and the slightly chilly breeze.
You can sit on the grass if you want to, or use the few clean tree logs that the professor provided for the sissies kids who did not prefer to unite with the nature.
ooc:
- Class has started, please don't announce your late arrival unless you're ready to deal with the consequences!
- Please familiarize/refresh yourself with the rules & guidelines for attending this class before posting.
- IC-date is May 14th at 8 am.

SPOILER!!: Magical Soul
Marco, Fischer, and Barrington were chatting. Nope, no three. Only two. There were students who didn't have partners still, anyway. Botros motioned towards the trio, "Mr. Barrington or Mr. Branxton, I found you a partner." He motioned to the older Ravenclaw girl (SweetPeea). Ab preferred to have them as a girl and a boy on each horse, just in case the girls were too scared to ride alone. You know... like it was the case a hundred years ago.
He put his hand on the Granian he'd been patting. "I've been close to this particular Granian horse, pet them, try and establish a bridge of communication with your horse." Botros caressed the horse's back before he took a step back, and raised his wand. "Mutare fibula," he waved his wand across the horse's back, the wings shrinking and pulled back to slowly mend with its back, the horse kicked the grass and protested a little. The professor patted his back again, trying to calm him down. He repeated the spell on the horse's neck, the hair turning white and growing significantly.
"Remember to keep your intent very clear in your head when you cast the spell. It's the intent that changes those particular part of the Granian horse and doesn't hurt them." Serious looks to everyone.
Moving on. "You see those saddles on the horses? Our groundskeeper has already put those for us, for a faster and safer ride, we're going to stick some of the runestones on them." He stuck his hand inside his pocket and fished out a handful of runestones, "You can pick any runes you think would help you with this. Just be careful to avoid contradictory runes. For example, you can't use Kenaz with Isa. One is fire, the other is ice." Yes? Get it? "You can ask me if you need any help with those."
Botros fixed the runestone to the saddle with his wand, using the glue spell. "I'm using Raidho. To invoke the runes and make them magically effective, you need to chant their Galdrs." He cleared his throat and started, "raidho raidho raidho... r r r r r r r r r... ru ra ri re ro... rudh radh ridh redh... rodh... (rut rat rit ret rot)... or er ir ar ur... r r r r r r r r r..." The runestone immediately glowed, the horse started getting restless and kicked again. "Maybe use something to calm the horse down, too. Too much magic can unsettle them." Botros grabbed another runestone, "Now you all can do the same. Pick a horse, try to reach out to him, use the spell and then fix some runestones on the saddle."
Any questions, come to him of course. Botros started fixing runestones on his saddle.
ooc: - You need 5 posts to get full credit for this activity. (Communicate with the horse, use the spell on them, then start fixing runestones to the saddle & invoking them with the Galdrs).
- Only two people are allowed to work on a horse, if there is any student left, they can partner with Botros.
- Have fun with this! More creativity = more likely to get full credit + extra credit.
- Any questions you may PM/VM/Tweet me.
- Class will resume to the final activity in 48 hrs.

"Hi. Mo," he pointed to himself instructively. Names were learned now. Mo turned his attention to Botros and the Granian, cringing slightly when it became obvious that the winged horse did not like the spell being cast on him. When it was time for them to practice, Mo's hand shot up in the air. "Professor, if the horse doesn't want to lose his wings, can we just make the hair change?"
Mo eyed the Granians again before giving Nicola a nod. "You can choose one. I think we ought to make friends with it, if we can, and maybe then it won't mind so much that we're removing his wings."
Nicola redirected her attention towards the Professor as he had practically...nominated a partner for the seventh year. Not that she minded, it was actually very sweet of the man, doing the hard part for her. So she smiled politely towards Professor Botros as a way of a thanks. She almost winked, but refrained, force of habit probably.
Turning her attention towards her partner this time as he offered his hand to shake hers. Nicola smiled as she got a closer look at him, to see him dressed in blue robes like she. Housemates, big plus! She knew he looked kind of familiar! Mo was his name? ...Was it short for something? Who knew, she was sure she'd find out at some point. She nodded in response before she said, "Name's Nicola."
Seeing his eyes travel to the Professor once more, her eyes soon followed to watch the Professor cast the spell in order for the wings of the Granian to shrink. Nicola's eyes winced quickly as she watched the horse become a little agitated briefly, thus only making Nicola want to run to the poor creature & comfort it. Although soon relaxing once the Professor had calmed it down. Clearly noting, that it wouldn't be of the Granian's liking once you cast the spell.
In response to Mo, Nicola replied, "Think I'll choose the Thurisaz rune..And I couldn't agree with you more..I'd find that very important to establish that trust if we're to get anywhere with this majestic creature.."

Well, they were done practicing the spell and it was time to move on to the other interesting stuffs. YAY! Cassia turned to listen to the professor after glancing at Lex making sure she hadn't falled asleep yet since she wasn't chanting anymore. Nope. Lioness still asleep. Because, she wasn't likely to drift to sleep now that they were going to RIDE a horse! Awesome, huh?
Okay, so far nothing was hard or impossible to do. Although, this comunicating with a granian wasn't that normal. But then again, they had talked to a tree and sang to it once so this shouldn't be that weird.
Cassia nodded at the man's words, then turned to Lex. "Let's pick us a horsy," She said pulling her bestfriend and walking off towards the horses. Hmm....Which one to choose? Her brown eyes flicked from one to another until she approched one. "This one looks like he won't throw us off his back," she said cheerfully peering at the creature. Yup. Looked peaceful enough.
"Hi, horse," This wasn't weird at all. "....How's it going?" Normal conversation, you know. Cassia looked at her partner questioningly, how was she doing with the whole communincating thing?

Ugh, finally. She thought they'd be chanting forever or something. Granted, she herself had stopped chanting much earlier but it was just as tedious listening to it while the others got on with their 'practice'. If anyone asked, her best friend had been chanting for them both while she took a break but as it wasn't an issue they could move on without excuses.
She followed along as Cassia pulled her horse shopping. This was kinda like when they went looking to buy Venom. Wasn't that an interesting day???
When her friend stopped, she stopped and eyed the horse. "But that's the problem, we don't want it too friendly 'cause chances are it'll be polite. Think about it. We're trying to overtake someone then it SLOWS because it doesn't want to be rude." She was not about that life but it seemed Cassia had already made up her mind here. So she got first ride and got to choose the horse? You know what? This wouldn't become an issue. Nope. She sighed, deciding it would do no good to let the horse know it wasn't wanted--er...no offense...?
Alexa waited for the horse to lower its head--lookit that, friendly came in handy--then took it in both hands and stared it in the eye. "You're the best granian out here. They got nothing on you. When I give the signal, we're gonna go super fast. Don't listen to Cassia when she starts screaming to slow down and if you see the old man with the cane gaining on us with the same message.....the responsible thing to do will be to slow down, I say I give you your wings back and we see what happens from there."
Ohai Cassia, nothing to see heeere...

Good, Lex didn't seem to mind Cassia choosing the horse. Good bestie right here. Then again Cassia had GIVEN her one of her ruines. That gotta count for something. Not trying to remind or making Lex feel in debt or anything. not yet But of course, the lioness wouldn't have chosen like Cassia did. She most certainly wouldn't have looked for the most peaceful or nices horse. So her word didn't surprise Cassia.
"I haven't thought of this but that'd be very good!" she said totally missing the Gryffindor's point. "Don't ever be rude," she coaxed reaching out and patting the horse's head. Lex brought up the most important points. Good to have her along with her.
Pulling out her wand, the snake stepped closer to the horse and was about to get started with the spell when her partner grabbed the horse's head and started poisioning his clear and nice mind. With her other hand that didn't hold the wand, she reached out and pulled Lex's hands away from the horse's head. "Stop, will you?" she said with a mini dramatic gasp of hers. "We find a nice horse and you corrupt him," she turned to the horse. "Listen to me and I'll make sure you don't lose a limp or end up in the bad horses corner." Because there was one you know.
Now time to cast the spell. OR fiiiiirst. She had to practice the movement. Wouldn't want to harm the horse. Nope. She needed to be veeeery careful. And they had A LOT of time! Slowly, the snake started waving her wand without uttering the incantation. Sloooowly over the back and head.

No really???
After all she'd said the girl had clearly missed her point. The aim wasn't to have a well-behaved horse that didn't end up in some fictional naughty corner. They needed a WAR horse because that's what Grani was and he served his master well. For this class they were the masters and these horses were meant to be Grani. See the connection??? Lex stroked the side opposite to the side Cassia was stroking. "Remember what I said about not listening to her? There's no such thing as a bad horses corner."
And no lying to the horse Cassia! It was bad practice!
Lex STARED at her. "I should stop? You mean you should. You're gonna make our horse soft! Wasn't Venom enough for you?? We're not molly-coddling this Granian too, got that?" Eyes on the horse again. "Look, we'll be fine, she just worries a bit too much sometimes, you know? I got this covered."
Glancing to the side, she saw Cassia raise her wand and assumed the spell casting was happening now...or not. "Oh for the love of Merlin." Lex nudged Cassia out of the way with her hip, put the rune Dagaz on her wand then aimed at the Granian. "Mutare fibula!" Slowly the wings folded in until they seemed to have disappeared completely.
"Not that hard, see?"

Cassia tried NOT to feel offended. Telling the horse not to listen to her. She gave PERFECT advice, FYI. Just saying. People one day would stand in lines to ask her for advice. One day. She was sure it would happen but wasn't sure as to when. Hopefully Lex'd be alive to witness it. Well, not if the lioness kept on her lifestyle. No worries. The snake had it on her conscience to keep her bestfriend in line. Not working very well so far but it was bound to. Also, one day.
"There will be such thing as a bad horses' corner if you listen to her." Now how to bribe an old man to back up her story if needed. Or the groundskeeper.
She was ABOUT to get to casting the spell when she was nudged out of the way. The fifth-year blinked seeing that she wasn't facing the horse anymore and hearing the spell being said. She might have taken a little bit longer than nesseccary but that still no excuse. Or maybe yes. Eeeh. Anyway, done with the spell. "Could've just said you wanted to," she murmered under her breath. Not a big deal!
Moving on.
Now that the wings were bended, they had to get to the runes part. Not her favorite part about this for sure. "Umm..." she sounded searching for the two runes they were going to use. "Here, this is Dagaaz." she handed it to her keeping Thurisaz. " We need to chant now, I think." That's what the man said and did. "If you will please grab your textbook so we get started." runes from her and textbook. Fair enough, no? Meanwhile, she'll try and figure out what they were gonna do. Eeh.

Okay, she heard the gasping and would assume she'd offended the girl. To that she offered a small smile but only a small one because Lex still held firm to the fact that there was indeed no such thing as a naughty corner. It didn't actually exist and if they lied to the Granian it'd be harder for them to gain it's trust. Trust was NECESSARY in horse riding. It could throw them if it didn't trust them and she'd make it explode for being rude then she'd be IN A WORLD OF TROUBLE. No thanks.
Lex almost snorted at Cassia's threat. "More like a heroes corner. That's where Grani is, you know. Don't you want to go there too? He's in all the famous history books." Except not really. Eh, details details. Her lie was a small one compared to Cassia's ludicrous one about punishment.
Hmm? What was that? "I didn't necessarily want to, I was gonna let you go ahead and have at it but come oooooon, you looked like you were getting into some kind of pre-casting ritual." Those were long and unnecessary, even Cassia should have known that.
But yes moving on. Alexa took the rune she'd be using from her friend then grabbed the textbook from her bag. "Here you go. You can look for them since I kinda robbed you of the spell casting." Trading spell work for reading was an unfair deal but then, Cassia didn't mind reading nearly as much as she did so maybe it was fine? In any case she'd just look them up if the girl protested....but not before giving her looks.
Go ahead so they could get this chanting thing over with, without scaring the horse anymore than they probably already had.

Eliza walked over to her professor and the horse he'd been petting. The spell he'd cast on the horse had done the job. There were no wings in the way, and the horse seemed content and calm. She gazed at it a moment longer, not wanting to startle it, then finally piped up. "Professor Botros? I think I might be the last one without a partner. Could I join you and your horse?"
She held her hand out slowly in front of her, palm upwards, for the horse to sniff before she got any closer. She didn't have much experience with horses specifically, but she did like animals of all kinds, so she hoped she and the horse would get along well enough.
Hmm? Oh. Botros nodded enthusiastically at the fourth year, "Sure, Ms Dawnsel. Feel free to communicate with the horse while I go and talk to Marco." The boy had his hand up in the air and it would take more than just a dismissive sentence to get him to work with them. But first, the professor moved his wand across the horse, "Finite Incantatem." The Granian was back to its original shape. "You may use the spell on him afterwards." He put his hand gently on her shoulder then moved towards Nicola and Marco.

After an encouraging smile towards the older Ravenclaw, "We're not making the horse lose his wings. We're giving the horse a new look, and enhancing his speed and strength with runic magic." Botros hoped the boy would look at it this way.
"But horses are like all the other creatures, they sense changes around them quickly and very early and instinctively interpret them as danger. So," Ab moved to the closest Granian near them and placed his hand gently on his neck, "The horse will always be uncomfortable when he senses magic is about to hit him. It's the way he expresses his nervous state. Just like if I wanted to change your hair color, even if you trust me, you'll still be a little nervous. You express nerves by talking endlessly during the process," There was a friendly jab here, hehe, "The horse kicks the ground and wiggles his head." Botros removed his hand from the Granian he chose for them, and paused. "Don't worry about it."
That was a 'no', by the way.
Now off to check on the other students before he went back to his Granian. Cambridge and Somerlad were doing... good from where he stood. Though with that Gryffindor, you should always be worried. There was the mute boy and a Gryffindor, too. The two little kids seemed okay, though Botros wanted them to practice right next to them, just in case. And then the hardworking Hufflepuffs. Everyone seemed to be handling the Granians well!
ooc: - don't forget to put the runstones (Dagaz or Thurisaz) on the wand while casting the spell! That's the point of this class.

He really didn't like going to any of the male Professors classes. S'just a waste of his time, yeah?
Smiling over at the Gryffindor, he shrugged, "I think I'm-" Cut off. 'Cause Botros was talking now.
Did he really want them to go and make friends with that horse. The same one with the wing span 'cause as fun and not dangerous as that sounded Ascanius would pass. He had been on a horse-thing before, Snap's to be precise, and he just didn't enjoy it at all. Motorbikes were much better. So, yeah.
Didn't wanna make friends with some horse.
Poke the girlfriend. "You wanna go say hi, first?" She had a sweet face that he liked and all. In fact, a lot of people seemed to like Penelope. So that meant she could make friends first.
Oh, well, that was a short practice. She hadn't gotten the chance to add the Dagaz rune to it - though really all it was was holding it against her wand or something so how hard could it actually be? Not a lot. So she figured she wouldn't have needed a lot of time for that.
Though...that could affect her spell casting...so maybe Ascanius could do the actual spell? They didn't both have to cast at the same time or anything did they?
But they could worry about that in a few minutes. Right now they just needed to make friends with the horse. Penelope could totally do that. So she smiled at Ascanius. "Sure."
These weren't like hippogriffs where you had to bow and stuff, right? She was pretty sure they weren't. She held out her hand a little toward the Granian so it could smell her and make sure she was okay. The horse sniffed her fingertips for a couple seconds and then put its muzzle in her hand, as if looking for something to eat.
Clearly this horse had its priorities straight. Penelope approved.
"Hey there," she said with a grin, moving forward to pet the horse's neck with her other hand. "I haven't got anything for you right now, but maybe you'll get something in a little while. We just need to do some magic on you first. That okay?" The horse just kind of looked at her, so she took that to mean it was okay.
"Wanna come say hi now, Ascanius?" she asked, turning to look at him again, still petting the horse's neck.

Yeah, the tiny smile was seen. And Cassia wasn't realyl upset. She didn't mind her bestfriend acting like herself or saying her opinion. Especially knowing the girl to spill everything that came across her mind. The snake was dramatic and not silly. Unless she wasn't ignored or left behind/out she wasn't going to be upset. Which rarely happened with Lex. The gryffindor must have known this very well that she paid attention to this. Others however did not.
Oh, so Lex was paying attention to the story or legend. Cassia wasn't. So she wasn't sure if what was said was true or not. She only shook her head at the idea of encouraging the horse to do something ...Gryffindor-y. "And he died," she had no idea how he died but was pretty sure the horse wasn't here within them. So she wasn't wrong. Ahem. Just had to say something about it.
"I was getting in the mood and preparing," She clarified. She did not take that long. Patience, Alexa. Which probably was the problem.
Taking the textbook from Lex, Cassia started flipping through the pages. Though the fourth-year got a look. Like casting that awesome spell was compared to looking up runes' chants. Nice try! Yet, she was the one to take care of it. Probabaly because she was the one who was going to take the OWLs soon! WELP! Negative thoughts!
Pushing the exams' thoughts to the back of her mind, she finally got to Thurisaz page. With her other hand that didn't hold the book, she pulled out her wand and stuck the rune to the saddle using adhaero. Good now time to chant. Upon clearing her throat she started. "thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz....th th th th th th th th th," that was really weird. " thurisaz thurisaz thurisa...th th th th th th th th th," VERY weird. "thur thar thur ther thor.....thu tha thu the tho," this was no less weird and so was the following like. "th th th th th th th th th." Looking up from the book, she looked at the saddle and smiled seeing the runes glowing. DID LEX SEE?! She should. She would be doing the same.
"Here, your turn," she handed her the book flipping to Dagaz page.

At first Lex thought Cassia would let it go right then and there when she presented the point that Grani had in fact been a war horse that brought his master victory but what she said next....it took the chocolate frog.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
"That's not how we're meant to be establishing trust with this horse Cass!" Lex snickered. Really. Of all the things to tell the horse they'd be asking for a ride later. Nice one. They were just lucky the horse didn't seem like the type to pack it up and RUN when young girls began discussing its fate. "You won't die. I'll make sure of that." She said, grinning at the horse. This kinda made it easier for her to look like the good guy. Juuuuust saying. Hehe.
"Yeah....sure, the earth would have perished and come back in the time it takes you to do that." Lex stuck her tongue at her for good measure after that.
She watched her friend carefully as she started her part of the chanting. The chanting itself wasn't what she needed to watch for, no, they'd done chanting before in a few classes. It was more the saddle and stuff with the runes she wanted to make sure of. When the runes began to glow she nodded slowly, indicating she'd gotten it. Right. Her turn.
Lex took the book from Cassia to get a better look at the words then attached her rune, Dagaz, to the saddle as well. These didn't have a problem with each other yeah? Well she hoped not, too late to pick a new rune now. "dagaz dagaz dagaz dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z du da di de do dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh odh edh idh adh udh od ed ud ad ud d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z"
She beamed when her rune began glowing too. Riding soon??

Sophie wasn't good at Runes. Her mother hadn't been good at them, her grandfather hadn't been good at them, and well...the Greingoth's just didn't do Runes. Maybe the Newell's did, and maybe that's why Caleb might be doing so much better than her right about now. Either way, she needed to catch up.
She was so far behind now.
She should at least begin by practicing that spell. "Mutare Fibula," she said aloud. "Mutare Fibula." Ugh. How was everybody else already so far ahead of her? She followed that by waving her wand around, pretending it was being waved over a horse's body.
Okay, so she'd at least gotten a decent start. A very small decent start.

Ella was smart, so Tag would follow her lead if he didn't understand a certain task of the activity. "They're all great. But yeah." Tag said with a smile as he went following behind Ella like the little puppy good friend and partner he was. "Yeah. This one is perfect. So, who's going to say the spell first?" An by this we mean Ella. Hopefully. Cause Tag wanted to see how it was done. Properly. Smiles!
Perfect horse was perfect. Ella smiled a little and nodded in agreement, approaching the horse slowly. "Hey there, buddy." Tentatively the blonde placed a hand on the horse's neck and began stroking it gently, eyes on the horse's face to see if this was okay. Was...she doing this right? The thing wasn't reacting negatively so she was going to take that as a good sign, yeah. "You're a nice horse, aren't you? I'm Ella, by the way." Was it weird to talk to a horse like this? "And this leprechaun to my left is Tag." And she grinned at the blonde before looking at the horse again, continuing to pet it gently. Was it calm yet?
"I...could do the spell on its back if you...do the neck part?" That way they'd both have some practice, yeah? And since she was already making contact with the horse, it made sense that she should go first. Maybe. Again, she really didn't know what she was doing here.
"Erm...I'll just..." And the seventeen year old fixed the thurisaz stone over her wand and eyed the horse calmly because the horse would sense if she was nervous, yeah? And that...might make it nervous too. She didn't want that. "This won't hurt a bit, okay?" She spoke softly to the horse and gave Tag a I hope this works look before focusing.
"Mutare fibula!" And Ella waved her wand across the horses back, watching as the wings seemed to shrink and form to its body. "Merlin."

Thurisaz.
That's the rune Sophie was going with, because that was the rune the professor said he recommended. Only, she wasn't quite sure what to do with it. "Err, Professor?" she said, raising her hand. "I'm just not good at this." No way was she admitting that in any louder of a tone. Greingoths just didn't admit failure.
"...and I need a partner," she added. Also, soooo sorry I'm a bit behind! She just wasn't good at Runes. "I'm betting on Thurisaz, though," she said, as if that cleared up everything. She glanced around at everyone else, still way ahead of her. ...and was this the FINAL?! Oh, my Merlin, she was going to FAIL!
"Does anyone still need a partner?" she asked, somewhat to the professor and somewhat to anyone who might hear.

It definitely wasn't everyday you heard someone had ridden a hippogriff. "Yeah, two years ago after winning that auction bid for a ride. Then at the festival in the summer." Smiling, as he briefly remembered that. Hopefully Alec could get to ride one, it an experience meant to be shared. He blinked then, "Well, thanks.. we can also try taking turns holding the reins too." Assuming that was allowed.
He then turned his head to watch how it was done.. Now that was cool. Wade knew he could leave it to Professor Botros to have something awesome happen during his lessons. Hmm, now the rune for them to use. He had some idea, but wanted to make sure his partner and him were on the same page. "So what rune do you think we should use?"
He had a moments more to gaze at the lovely horse, then hearing Alec ask him on how to approach them. "Yeah, just take your time approaching them and then talk nicely with them before stroking." Just like making a new friend, you always talked with them before giving a big old badger hug. Least that's how Wade viewed things. Heh. "You want me to try talking to it while you do the petting?" Or the other way around. Wade didn't mind either way if Alec wanted to do the talking to it instead.
An auction bid for a ride... "That bid... that event that was held three years ago?" he asked, furrowing his eyebrows, "But that's awesome! Congrats, man!" Even if it was late. So... belated congrats? Yeah. Sounded about right. "Erm... you sure?" he started, reaching up a hand to ruffle his hair, "I might mess up, you know." Really.
Rune? Rune rune rune... Alec ran a hand through his hair again as he thought. Did they need to pick one or could they just... use both? He looked over at Botros and the Raidho rune that the man had carved onto the horse's saddle. ... Right. "We could try and use both for... when we cast the spell, yeah?" he said, turning his attention back towards Wade, "But another rune... there are LOTS that could be useful, I guess. We could use Raidho? Like... Like Botros has?" This... was going to be hard. He only knew about the divination side, not... this.
"Or we can use that with... erm... with another rune? Gebo? It's about gift but... it's happier?" ... No, this was no good. Alec shook his head before continuing, "There's also... Naudhiz! Hey! Curly! That one's talking about... a need and distress and the Galdr for that rune helps to... relieve you from that distress, I guess? And it helps with forward motion so... if it's used in conjunction with Raidho..." Did he understand? Was Alec even correct in this?
Take your time, talk nicely... Alec nodded along, mentally taking notes of all of this while keeping his eyes on the Granian they were meant to be working with. And Wade was going to try talking to it? "I... yeah?" he said, looking over at the boy with a small grin spread across his face, "Yeah, I guess that can work. Good thinking, Curly!" GRIN. Proper. Yeah.
... "So... let's get going!" Another grin was flashed over towards the older Hufflepuff before Alec started moving forward tentatively. He reached out a hand for the horse to sniff, so that it knew he wasn't a danger. "I... erm... hey there!" he whispered, grinning at the horse. Then, without another word, the boy slowly reached his hand out to start petting the horse. Slowly. Gently. And Wade was right here, yeah?

Okay...
She should probably just practice the spell again just to have something to do other than wait on a partner. She sort of felt like a Hufflepuff now. Not that she hated Hufflepuffs or anything, but they were the ones she always imagined sitting by themselves waiting on a friend. *sigh*

Ella seemed to have soft touch on the horse because it didn't freak out on them or anything. Which was always a good sign. Tag didn't want to get stomped on or knocked off his feet by the horses wing or something. So Tag just smiled at her. Not in a creepy way. But in a 'you're doing good' way to both Ella and the horse. Good. Introductions. Tag waved at the horse when Ella said his name.
"Yeah, yeah. Sure I'll do the neck." Tag said agreeing happily. But first he watched Ella do the spell. He walked over to the horses neck and said, very slowly, "Mutare fibula" with his stone thurisaz over his wand.
The horses hair on its neck began to turn white. That was a good sign. So, their first step was done. And onto the next part of the task. Which would be fixing the runestones onto the saddle. That shouldn't be too hard, yeah?

The horse was doing well so far and so were they. Her smile widened as the hair began to change color, her head tilted to the side while she observed the spell in action. "Nice job, Tag." Seriously.
And now they had to deal with the saddle. Ella looked through her runestones again, trying to think of ones that would be useful for them during their task. "What...about Algiz?" That seemed like a good one, especially considering that neither of them had ever ridden a horse before. "It's all about protection erm...offensive and defensive. Using it before we ride would be offensive, yeah? It'd help us not fall off or anything." Hopefully. "I can work on fixing that one to the saddle if you want to think of another one?"

Tag did all right with that part of the assignment. Which made him feel better. He liked this class but sometimes he was hesitant to do things. But, after having watched Ella for a second he'd gotten what to do. "Thanks! You too Ella!"
He then paid attention to Ella's words of wisdom and how she was supporting her need to want to use Algiz for a rune. Of course he'd be ok with that. So he nodded when she mentioned words like protection and not falling off, which might happen to them. "We definitely don't want to fall off. So I agree we can use Algiz." That'd be painful. Leprechaun and elephant down! "Do we only use one rune or more? Or does it not matter?" He asked. Tag wasn't so clear on this part of the activity. Also, he was very confused about the Galdrs part. Also, if they used one rune would they have to both have to work on it or would one go just be good enough?

Before he went back to his horse, Botros' attention went to the little Slytherin. Aw. "I'm right here, dear." Walking with a cane on grass was a bit hard and absolutely soundless, no wonder the kid was confused. He put a hand on her shoulder and led her to his horse, "Of course, you can. You and Miss Dawnsel (DecemberMoon) can work on it and then we'll ride him." Or he'd let them ride him on their own. It depends.
He walked with the Slytherin towards the Granian he was sharing with Eliza.

Nicola. She was very pretty. Did she know? She sort of carried herself like she didn't know, which was even prettier. He nodded in agreement when she spoke up. They were of the same mind, then... the Granian would have to be totally comfortable with them before the bespelled it, and neither of them wanted to hurt it.
"Do you suppose he has a name we should use properly? I always think that it's more polite to call someone by their proper name and not just it or him. If it can be helped." Mo stepped forward and ran a calming hand over the soft nose of the horse before giving him a little nuzzle. A polite nuzzle, though.
Granians were beautiful, although he preferred Abraxans because they were bigger and a little scary, and those were essentially Mo's qualifications for interesting creatures. "I loaned my Dagiz to someone, so I"m doing Thurisaz too. If you don't mind. Also, if you don't mind... maybe I can change the hair and you can change the wings?" He'd beg if he had to, but Mo just wouldn't have the heart to do the spell properly.

Botros removed his hand from the Granian he chose for them, and paused. "Don't worry about it."
That was a 'no', by the way.[/size]
So... no, then. Mo gave Botros another nod, totally understanding the subtext of what was not being said. He had no choice, then, and going to talk to Botros hadn't really done him any good in the end. It was fine to say that you didn't have to hurt a creature if you could tell it was uncomfortable, but when put to the test, the professor was saying just to do whatever you wanted and show no concern for the creature's wishes.
It was very disappointing, and Mo tried not to let the hurt show on his face. Maybe he should just drop Runes too, if that was the attitude about practicing on creatures.
"Yes, sir, Professor," Mo turned back to the Granian and gave him another nuzzle.

”Welcome!” Ella smiled back at Tag, thinking they were making a pretty good team so far. Alec would be happy about this, yeah? The blonde smiled wider at the thought.
Algiz was a go then? Awesome. Though…Botros had mentioned Raidho and that was more for protection of travelers, yeah? That maybe made more sense now that she thought about it. “Y’know, maybe we should start with Raidho too. If Botros used it, it’s probably a better option because it has to do with a journey specifically. It’ll still help protect us but it’s more suited to what we’re doing, yeah?” Girls changed their minds a lot so this was totally normal behavior, right? Right.
The blonde used the glue spell that Botros had used in his demonstration and stuck the runestone to the saddle carefully. Now…she’d need to invoke it. ”The Galdrs always make me want to dance. Silly, huh?” And she smiled sheepishly as she gave the horse another affectionate pat on the neck. ” raidho raidho raidho r r r r r r r r r ru ra ri re ro rudh radh ridh redh rodh (rut rat rit ret rot) r er ir ar ur r r r r r r r r r.”
As she eyed the saddle thoughtfully again, the badger listened to Tag and the questions that he had. ”I think more than one is fine as long as they don’t contradict each other? So like Professor Botros said, you wouldn’t use Isa and Kenaz because they’re opposites.” Fire and ice would never work together so this made a lot of sense to her. ”So we’d need to think of other ones that’d work well with Raidho, I guess. Maybe like…hm.” And the blonde tapped her chin, looking at the horse.
“Sowilo?” Positive energy and success, yeah? They could use all the positive energy they could get and they’d want a successful ride so maybe…that wouldn’t be a bad one to choose? Maybe.

See. Tag had partnered up with Ella cause she was smart. An he didn't mind at all that she was more of the leader in their partnership, but at least they were both working equally. So when she mentioned that Botros had used Raidho and they should use raidho Tag had no objections to it. What the teacher does is always correct and Ella went the extra mile. "Yep! Botros used it as well, so its one of the best options too."
An then Ella mentioned Galdrs making her want to dance. An the boy simply laughed. It was amusing. It just made him laugh, hopefully Ella wouldn't start dancing in the middle of the lesson? Tag might join in but it would depend. So he watched her carefully when she started using the galdr of Raidho, and raised his eyebrows high up. Tag hadn't looked up Sowilo yet, but he nodded in agreement to use that one.
Putting the rune stone in the saddle Tag went on with the galdr for Sowilo. ""Sowilo Sowilo sowilo. S s s s s s s s s. S s s o o o l l l. Su sa se si so. ( Sul sal sil sel sol ). Us as is es os. Si se su sa su. S s s s s s s s s." That was it, yeah? Finishing up Tag let out a huge sigh. That was a lot. Yep, he'd need to hit the textbooks for that.
