Ancient Runes Lesson 1 : Rune of Protection : Algiz http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps2fc17533.jpg |
Ancient Runes! Ella could not even express how excited she was about this class because it was her favorite and Professor Botros was the best. She was feeling a bit bad about not stopping by his office yet, too, but she'd make up for that. Baking for Botros would be happening soon. Noting the suspicious statue-looking things in the hallway, the seventeen year old raised her eyebrows but figured they'd be explained in time. Besides, there was a Professor in the doorway waiting to be greeted and Ella smiled big as she approached. "Hello Professor!" BEAM. "It's really good to see you. I hope you had a nice summer." And she passed him carefully, not wanting to knock him over or anything. The captain grabbed a seat in the front and eyed the board and then the parchment before reaching into her bag for a quill. Name and year, right? Quote:
TAP! She had other things too for class, things they'd been instructed to bring. Wand, book, goggles, and gloves were organized neatly on her desk as she waited for class to begin. |
Walking through the door, and nodding while saying "Hello Professor!" Tag made his way into the class and took a seat somewhere in the middle. Not all the way in the back where he could get completely distracted, but not in the front where the Professor could stare him down. Though Professor Botros didn't seem like that type of man. Setting his rucksack onto the floor Tag glanced up at the backboard and saw its instructions. Easy enough. Getting out his quill Tag wrote onto the tag, heh. SPOILER!!: Information Done with that Tag simply tapped his wand onto the parchment and it well, turned into a desk tag. Heh for tag again. |
Charlie nodded with a smile at the Professor as she passed him and entered the classroom, before taking a seat in the middle. You know, not at the front, but not totally avoiding the lesson. Pulling her quill from her back, and leaving all of the other things she's been instructed to bring with her in it, Charlie scribbled her name on the parchment, before delving into her sleeve and pulling out her wand. Tap. Quote:
|
Ok, Ancient Runes. Cool. Caleb could do runes, he was pretty sure. Uncle Alex was all about the runes and stuff, doing an apprenticeship or something right now to learn how to become a rune...prospector. Or something. He took a seat near the front, pulled out a parchment, and followed the instructions to make himself a nice little name tag. Quote:
|
Ancients Runes, you can bet your pickle jars that Wade would be enrolling here again for his final year. Feeling quite happy after having his favorite breakfast, pickles on toast, he headed towards the classroom with a little pep in his steps after the Captain ahead of him. Heh. "Hello again Professor," Wade beamed back at Professor Botros, whom he had quite a high respect for, "Had a good summer?" Afterward he shuffled himself in taking in the arrangement before checking the board. Name.. year. cool. Taking a seat after dropping his bag down near him he used the parchment to write out his name before giving it a good ol' *TAP* Quote:
|
Ella,Wade & Caleb Ancient Runes sounded so...ancient. Adi wondered if he'll even like the subject. Runes sounded confusing and the fact that it was ancient didn't help. As he approached the classroom, he noticed an old guy standing at the doorway and besides him were some covered stuff. This had to be the Professor! And even he was...ancient. "Hi, Professor!'' the first year said politely to the guy. Old people weren't so bad. Just as long as they didn't bore him. He proceeded into the room. "Hai, Captain Ella!' Hi Wade!' he called when he saw the older Badgers. Oh and Caleb! Adi waved to the boy whom he had met at the maze. He took a seat and read the instructions on the board. With his quill, he followed the first of the instructions: Quote:
|
BLINK. All these statues were... well... what was that about? Alec moved forward cautiously, his grey-blue eyes taking in each covered statue carefully. Yeah... this was confusing. And they hadn't been here last year, had they? He tried to think back to it but nothing came to mind so... yeah. He was going to say no. He'd be able to remember if they had been here, yeah? Right? ... Maybe. But Botros! When his eyes landed on the Professor, the boy's face split into a grin and he headed over, casting his thoughts about the covered statues aside. "Hello Professor!" he said once he was near the door, "Hope you had a great summer!" Then he slipped past the man and headed into the classroom. The nearly empty classroom. ... Yeah... how had people gotten here so quickly? The seventeen year old shook his head before heading over towards an empty seat near Quote:
|
Nicola walked down the corridor, heading towards the Ancient Runes classroom. Come to think of it, Nicola was not dreading it, because she quite enjoyed this class. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but something about Runes just came pretty easily to the redhead. Not to mention, Professor Botros was quite the enjoyable Professor to be around. She wondered what he could be teaching today. Once nearing the room, she saw a bunch of big covered things outside the classroom door. She stopped walking and raised an eyebrow at these towering things. Nicola approached one of them and almost grabbed the bottom of the cover to reveal what was being hidden beneath, until her eyes caught sight of the Professor. She quickly resisted the temptation and changed her direction walking towards him by the doorway. Nicola smiled almost instantly as she said in a rather calm tone, "Good morning Professor.." She bowed her head slightly, which made her think of Enre briefly, before walking past him into the classroom. She quickly picked a seat in the middle, towards the front. Getting herself comfortable, she noticed his written message on the board. She did as she was instructed and then tapped the parchment watching it turn into a desk tag. Quote:
|
Alexa usually had to wait until she was inside to be intrigued by the lesson ahead but this time it would seem her source of future distraction would be outside of the class. The Professor was getting smarter. How was she meant to get sidetracked from the lesson and overly fascinated by the object when she was on the inside but the covered objects were out here in the corridor?? The Professor was by the statues. Was he going to stay out here...? Yeah...she wasn't so sure this new learning strategy would work...see...she'd find it harder to pay attention to him if she wasn't looking directly at him. Perhaps she'd just stand out here with him. Taking her education seriously was happening right now. She expected shoulder pats for this. Ahem. Lex walked into the room, read the board, got out a piece of parchment then quickly scribbled on it. Quote:
|
Okay, Schuyler had heard from several people that this class was awesome. And apparently it was awesome because of the professor. So, the Gryffindor walked along through the corridor with a happy curiosity to her. Her feet slowed as she passed a few covered statues that were situated outside the classroom door. Were those always there..? Anyway. She continued her way on into the classroom, where her eyes soon fell upon their professor. Aww. He was old, and cute, and Schuyler smiled without realizing it. "Hello, Professor." She found her seat in the second row. There was a sheet of parchment already set on her desk, and she looked to the board for guidance. Aha. Nametags. Quote:
|
Ancient Runes and of course the awesome name tags. Nigel loved names tags. Probably because he messed with them.Still if Botros did not know his name by now. Then something was wrong with his long term memory. So Yeah Name Tags. Nigel sat down in a empty seat and got to work on his. Perfect Quote:
|
So, Ancient Runes.. Claudette was remotely curious what this class would be lie here at Hogwarts, though she wasn't sure it was the good kind of curious. She had found the subject to be excruciatingly dull at Beauxbatons and wondered if there was any improvement on the interest value of the class at this school. Plus, she also wondered if she would be subjected to something crazy.. like a beard. She still wasn't so sure about that sort of thing at this point. She slowed her steps as she neared the classroom, green eyes falling on the covered statue-like things in the corridor. Oh, and the professor was there too, just at the doorway. "Hello, Professor," she said cheerily, then walked past him into the classroom. They were supposed to go in, right? The sixth year looked for an empty desk, sliding into the first vacant seat she could find. Lifting her green eyes to the blackboard, she quickly read the instructions then pulled out her quill and lilac ink. She carefully scrawled her name and year onto the parchment then tapped it with her wand, leaving the newly transformed name tag on the corner of her desk. Quote:
|
Ancient Runes once again! Kace remembered coming here last term. He liked the class plus the Professor was kind of awesome. Once he got towards the classroom, he noticed some of his fellow classmates were already there and plus other people from other houses. He smiled and then saw the professor near the front of the room. Kace smiled and waved, "Hello there Mr. Bostros!" Then he took his seat and noticed once again he needed to fill out his name tag. Kace took his quill and started to write..... Quote:
|
A little awkward for the professor she walked toward the lesson. She was awkward because she still wasn’t comfortable after all what had happened, but… she didn’t wanted to skip this lesson, no, she was a Slytherin and Slytherins were strong! So when she walked toward the classroom she passed a… covered stature? Next she walked past the professor and she nodded to professor Botros while she walked past him. “Hello professor” said Sonea quick and walked further, trying it to avoid a conversation… She found a desk where she could sit and saw that there was a parchment on her desk, and when she looked around her she saw on every desk. Curious what she needed to do with it she looked at the blackboard and saw that professor Botros has left some instructions. She grabbed her quill and started writing. Quote:
Next she tapped with her wand at the parchment and saw indeed that her parchment turned into a desk tag… Hmm, now she needed to wait, that was easy! |
As Sophie walked through the classroom door, she glanced up at the professor with an expression of wonder. Wow--he was old! She looked at his cane and wondered if it doubled as a wand. He could probably do some serious damage with that thing! "Hello, Professor," she said, and then she moved out of the doorway and went in search of a seat. Ancient Runes sounded boring, but then again, so did Arithmancy, and they'd painted in there. Sophie slid into a seat and began the process of writing her name and year on the parchment. She wrote: Quote:
|
Asher entered the room, excited to be at another Ancient Runes class. It was the last class he expected to like during his first year at school, and it surprised him that it turned out to be one of his favorite. He took a seat and noticed the instructions on the board. Quote:
Once he finished, he pulled out another piece of parchment and waited for further instructions. |
The organized layout of the classroom only confirmed what Fern had surmised from the class notice. Professor Botros was a no-nonsense man, and Ancient Runes was a no-nonsense class. Therefore, it only made sense that, after taking in her surroundings, the Hufflepuff gave a no-nonsense nod with a no-nonsense greeting, "Good morning, Professor," before taking a seat in the desk next to Claudette. Sending the Ravenclaw a small smile, Fern read the writing on the blackboard twice. Then, pulling out a quill, she filled out the parchment: Quote:
Surveying her work., Fern frowned a little; her name looked so boring without the normal little hearts dotting all the i's. But before she could give into the urge to make it super cute, the 11-year-old tapped the paper with her wand so that it could turn into a no-nonsense desk tag |
Ancient Runes was easily Tobias' best subject, possibly along with Astronomy. He should have gotten a decent amount of sleep the night before, and had totally planned to but when the night before, sleep just... hadn't come to him. Like nothing. Despite being tired, he hadn't slept a wink. Weeeiiirrrdddd. Feeling exhausted, Tobias entered the classroom. He was still as happy as ever from his own perspective, but he didn't exude even NEARLY the usual amount of happy energy he usually did. Instead, Toby was jittery and twitchy, as though he'd been hooked up to an IV of coffee for a couple of days. "Hi Professor," Tobias greeted Botros as he entered the room. His voice was slightly croaky and he sounded tired and his face had that not-slept look and there was no bouncing or loud chirpy voice but he still GRINNED and gave a salute, albeit a little salute, and went to sit at a desk as close to the front of the room that he could get. Rubbing tiredly at one of his eyes with the heel of his hand, Tobias got out his things for the lesson, before writing his name and stuff on a piece of parchment, just like it said to on the board. Quote:
|
Adrienne walked into the classroom, her gaze focused on the book in her hand. She barely acknowledged the professor at the door as she walked in, just muttering, "Hullo, Professor," quietly as she read. She walked automatically towards a desk in the middle-ish area of the front row and sat down, still not even glancing up from her book. After a minute, when she'd finished the chapter, she pulled a blue leather bookmark out of further in the book, where she'd kept it, and stuck it in the page, closing the book quietly. Finally, she looked up at the board, and to her surprise saw that there was a piece of parchment on her desk, which had previously gone unnoticed. Adrienne scrawled her name on it quickly, her handwriting rather illegible.. Quote:
|
He wasn't too thrilled about Runes class. Sure, they were important and stuff, and he even wore a necklace with the Algiz rune carved on a tiny square made out of fine oak wood. His grandmother had given it to him a week before coming to Hogwarts. Apparently he'd need protection here. HA! Nonetheless, he wanted to learn stuff...so here he was. And it was on his schedule. So...yeah. Stuffing a half eaten sugar quill into his bag Lucian noticed the professor already standing there. He saw nothing. "Nice day, professor," he greeted. Eyeing the covered statues he entered the classroom. Taking a random seat the first year flopped. Oooh! His name was needed. With his quill he wrote his name down and tapped the parchment with his wand. Neat! Quote:
|
Astronomy Tora found interesting. Transfiguration Tora found interesting. Ancient Runes? Well that was still to be seen. Could you use an ancient rune in Astronomy? Or in Transfiguration? She sure hoped so... Either way she had to go to the class. "Morning Professor" she said nodding to Professor Botros as she purposefully entered the classroom to take a seat in the far left corner (second to last row). Until she decided how she felt about this class she would sit towards the back. If she decided to like it, well then she would move up a couple rows. Noting the message on the blackboard, she clearly wrote- Quote:
|
Ancient Runes was one of Mo's favorite classes. The subject was interesting enough, but it was Ab-Bot that really won Mo over, and he waved wildly at the professor as he entered the classroom and picked a seat near the front. "Hey, Professor. Did you have a good summer? How's Feo? Can I walk him later?" Because Feo was basically Mo's. And Ella's. And West's. But that was pretty much the short list of who he was willing to cede ownership too. He wrote quickly on the parchment before tapping it with his wand. The paper folded itself. Quote:
|
As Jacques walked past Professor Botros he gave him a polite nod in response to the mans smile -which he didn't want to force himself to return- and entered the class behind one of the talkative students, Marcus, who was Ravenclaws quidditch captain and swerved around the boy and his questionnaire to find himself a seat a bit secluded from the rest in the second row. Yes he was told to make a friend but he didn't think there was a need to rush anything. Friendships weren't rushed. Right? He did as he was told and tapped the parchment. Quote:
Now that that was out of the way, and he had observed the rest of his classmates, he made note of the boxes and thought back to the statues which had been covered. |
Welp, Ascanius was not looking forward to this class at all. It was probably the slowest moving and most tedious class out of all of male Professors. That and he had to compose a song last term for a tree... ...he still wasn't over it. Walking into the class with the usual chip on his shoulder that he possessed in every class, he slid into his seat without a word. Ascanius hoped he was making enough of an impression that it was apparent he and his pretty face didn't wanna be here, yeah? So lazily he wrote down his information. Quote:
|
Okay, what were the covered statues about? Maybe they were old Runes people, whatever they were called? Anyway, Sky passed by them and into the classroom with a smile on her face, confident that this particular older gentleman wasn't obsessed with beards or giving out incorrect information. Oh, and belly full of a nice breakfast, too. "Good morning, professor." Finding herself a seat, she set about following the instructions on the board, not exactly sure why the seat tags were needed. But at least it was better than a beard. Quote:
|
Kace <3 Tobias <3 Asher <3 "Hiya, Professor Booooooootrosss!" Marigold said, skipping happily into class. "Had a good summer?" Marigold GRINNED at him and went to sit near Kace, Tobias, and Asher. IS DAT A MESSSAAAAAAGE ON DAT BLACKBOOOOOAAAARRRRDDDD!!!?? Quote:
And now, to sit and wait. |
Ancient Runes. This was her Wide smile. Until she remembered Oakey wasn't going to be here and the smile faltered. Like, that was completely strange. Odd. Saddening. Mainly because Dylan wasn't here either, you know? That was sad. "Hey, there, Professor!" Okay, we're back to smiles, then. Life goes on. The desk next to Ascanius would do, again, so he doesn't fall asleep. Quote:
|
"Hello, Professor! I hope your summer was good!" Nerida said to Professor Botros as she entered the room. With that she gave him a wide grin before going to find her seat. Seeing the covered item she started to wonder why all the classes had like something covered.... It was odd! Quote:
|
Wait.... his name and year? But why? It wasn't like Botros didn't know him. It was not like there was anyone that didn't know him really. West took his usual seat and wrote down his name and all for this tag thing, and then the increasingly tall Slytherin just sat there and waited. Quote:
|
Ancient runes. She used to think this was a hard subject and that she'll never understand it. Though that changed and now she inserted Arithmancy in that slot. Where she decided she can't understand. It felt good entering the class knowing that she'd be understanding. Awesome feeling. Oh, and they had to have name tags. Old people, pft. Though, that was better than saying names wrong! Quote:
She slid into a seat that wasn't at the front. Why sit in the front? It was cozy at the back. |
SPOILER!!: Students! hi Botros put a hand on Cambridge's shoulder and led her inside the class, "The lesson's about to start, come." |
Adelaide sat at her seat, having arrived to class just before the professor started the lesson. She quickly scribbled her name and year on the parchment before tapping her wand with it. Quote:
Adelaide raised her hand. "Is that Bragi, the god of music?" Yes? No? |
Had she eaten a breakfast? No, she had no time to eat because she had *almost* overslept and she didn't had wanted to be late for her first lesson ancient runes, she might be a Slytherin and she had misbehaved herself A LOT, but she wasn't all bad... So she wanted here to be on time and she was! She could always ask one of the house elves for something to eat when she had time, so there was no problem at all! But what the professor next said was something she still needed to do, so she opened her schoolbag and took a few pieces of parchment to make her notes, and making notes was now really important because this was one of the lessons she found really difficult. She NEEDED her notes if she wanted to get a good grade for this lesson! The Norse mythology? She had heard a little about it, but not enough to know much about it, the only things she knew were some old child stories, but she suspected that that wasn't what the professor wanted to talk about... And his question about the figure on the blackboard... She had really no idea, she didn't knew ANYTHING about this and the figure was nothing more than... just a figure for her... She frowned while she stared at the blackboard and tried to think of a ques, but she didn't had a idea, so she kept her mouth shut. |
Maika raised her hand, speaking quietly. "I believe that's Heimdallr, and he's holding the Gjallarhorn. He watches for the end of times, I think. That's what the horn is for." There was a word for it... Not apocalypse or Gehenna... something else... She tried to slyly pull out a book and peek at it. It had to do with Apocalypse, she was sure of that. It reminded her something of the perfect metis. |
Benzi had eaten breakfast today, so he was feeling MUCH better. He had even managed to do his desk name thing easily, and couldn't help the slightly proud grin that followed as it turned into a desk tag. Quote:
A sudden thought occurred to him, and he smirked. "Professor that's Skamlagaduct, the mighty god of indoor plumbing! Some people might confuse him with a god of music but he's clearly fixing a blocked pipe in the picture," Benzi nodded, his face a mask of sincerity as he pretended to study the image. Keep a straight face, Rider, keep it straight. |
They had learned about Odin and Thor in previous lessons? Why hadn't Adrienne taken this class in first year? WHY? And now they were learning about muscular, old gods wearing shorts and playing weird instruments. Fair enough. Adrienne racked her brains for information about Norse mythology. She know about Thor, and Loki of course, and Odin and Frigga, and she'd heard of both Hel and Sif. But who was that guy? Instrument... instrument... yeah, she really had no idea. But according to the professor, an incorrect answer was better than no answer at all, right? She raised her hand. "Possibly Tyr? Calling them all off to war or something?" Yeah, that didn't make much sense. Adrienne was going to stop guessing things now. |
Wade smiled, feeling good knowing Botros had a fine summer, and then being congratulated. "Thanks, sir." After taking his seat, he did see and hear Adi-who-needed a nickname from him soon. Wade simply smiled back before giving him a little wave. Such a nice kid, he was. Now that class had fully begun, Wade's brows furrowed a little. Not so much on the note taking, that was a given in any class, but on the new figure. After seeing the guy show on the board, Wade blinked...Hm. That was definitely no hammer in his hand, it looked like.. a horn? He furrowed his brows trying to remember some of the Norse mythology he remembered from when he was living back in Norway. The horn.. in Norse.. that was the Gjallarhorn. *Blink* and that usually meant.. Blinking again, before raising his hand, "That's Heimdall.. he was said to be the God of Light." Hopefully his memory wasn't straying on that. |
It felt good to be back in this class and Ella was listening with a smile on her face as the lesson started. She'd missed Botros, y'know? And she'd had her breakfast and was ready to work so extra smiles for that. Eyes now on the picture, Ella tapped her chin thoughtfully and focused on the horn. She'd read about Norse gods associated with a sounding horn like that one but she wasn't sure which one it could be. Hm. "That Heimdallr name sounds familiar, Sir. I think...he was the one who actually owned that horn thing. Or at least I think he had it for a time." |
& to Zellanna's ickle firstieee That was definitely Heimdallr, he even knew who had drawn that particular depiction. West put his hand up and quoted, "Gjolp there bore him, Greip there bore him, Eistla bore him, and Eyrgjafa, Ulfrun bore him, and Angeyja, Imth and Atla, and Jarnsaxa.: that's Heimdallr, son of Nine Mothers." He paused and heard some little girl speak up, mentioning end of time. "Ragnarok." He offered helpfully. Favourite class was his favourite for a reason. |
Asher smiled at the professor before raising his hand to answer. "I'm not sure who he is, but I bet he is a god of some sort. Maybe the god of horns?" It look like he was holding some sort of horn and playing it. He could have been calling out to assemble troops or warning others of danger coming. There seemed to be a lot of fighting back in those days. |
Ah. So Botros did know. Awesome. Botros was pretty cool. Nigel did not know who that was. But West says it is Heimdallr. So yeah. Lets go with that. That is some awesome horn the guy had. But the hat was just a bit weird. |
Caleb really didn't know much about Norse gods and all that. He knew that they were important in Runes and stuff, but he didn't think he'd have to really LEARN about them. They just MADE the runes or something right? He tried to remember what his uncle had told him but he had no idea. Horn, ok, who had horns... He raised his hand. "Um, is that Loki? He has horns right?" |
Uhh...what? *BLINK* Sophie knew there was a reason her mother and her aunt had both disliked Ancient Runes. Now she just knew what that reason was. Ancient Runes WAS HARD. ...and how did Caleb know some random name of an old guy who had horns? She looked at him for a single second then turned back to the drawing. Hesitantly, she raised her hand. "I have no idea who he is or what he's holding," she said, "but it looks like some instrument." ...and what in the name of Merlin had that older Slytherin boy (West) just said?! Please don't say we have to learn a foreign language, too... |
Jayden slowly raised her hand, silently praying that she got this right, Ravenclaw needed more points! They were already SO FAR BEHIND already. "Professor, could that possibly be Heimdallr, the god who possessed the resounding horn?" Well, at least she was able to give it a shot. |
Nicola did feel a little bad that she had almost revealed the Professor's surprise too soon, but she had quickly calmed down the moment she had seen his genuine smile along with a kind greeting. How sweet he was to make sure she had had a good breakfast! Come to think of it, she didn't have a big breakfast this morning, but she did have a little something, so that definitely had to count for something. Suppose it must've had to do with the class only making her this happy. Before she knew it class had started and Nicola perked up immediately. She looked at the Professor as he began to address the class. From the moment he began speaking, her full attention was on him as he spoke. Then he pointed to the blackboard showing them a picture of a god from Norse mythology. Nicola eyed it briefly studying every little detail about the picture. Then suddenly, the name had immediately popped into her head. Without hesitation, the redhead raised her hand before speaking clearly for the Professor, "Professor, that is Heimdall, or 'Heaven's Mount', and he was known by a lot of people as the the Watchman of the Gods. And the trumpet that he is wielding in his hands is called Gjallarhorn, which the Gods had him blow whenever he saw their enemies approaching, declaring that its sound would rouse all creatures in the heavens, earth, and Niflheim.." |
Oh the man had a good summer? GOOD. Alec liked the sound of that. He even nodded at the professor's comment, as if to say that he had had a good summer. And it was mainly down to one blonde haired girl in particular. Though, he probably shouldn't mention this since the guy might not be happy knowing that no Runes studying had taken place. Sorry Botros. Oh HEY! They were going to be doing some carving? Intaglio? AWESOME. Alec's eyes flew over towards the board when a picture emerged. He leant forwards slightly and squinted a little at the picture. He recognised the guy in the picture from somewhere... but... he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Why did he look so-- And then people said it. And his eyes widened. OF COURSE! Alec raised his hand in the air. "Yeah, it's Heimdallr... I think," No it sounded familiar. VERY familiar. "He usually stays near a rainbow bridge... a bridge that meets... heaven?" Did Botros even need to or want to know that? ... Probably not. Also, the rainbow bridge reminded the seventeen year old all too much of the rainbow road in Mario Kart. |
Quote:
|
Kace looked at the board and wondered who that due was. He really had no idea! He was tilting his head a little bit to try and decipher the picture. The professor said to not be afraid to give an incorrect answer. Kace shrugged and thought why not give it a shot? Kace raised his hand and said, "Professor it looks like he is trying to eat something..." that was all Kace could say because he really didn't have a name, he just went with his observation. |
Tag had no clue who that guy was. But, when Professor Botros mentioned Thor Tag's first thought was... none other than Loki. Loki had that weird staff looking thing, didn't he? But this guy didn't? It looked like some sort of trumpet, so maybe it wasn't Loki. Raising his hand, well, Tag didn't have an answer but he gave the best thing he could give, "Well- my first thought was Loki. But- he doesn't look like Loki, anyway- because this guy has some sort of trumpet. Still going to answer with Loki." |
Hand uppp. "Heimdallr's one of the Aesir gods, and he guards Asgard. Gjallarhorn isn't only blown at the begining of Ragnarök, he sounds it when intruders are approaching, too." Good answer? Did she get shoulder pats? Alice had slipped into Ancient Runes quietly today, possibly for the first time ever without asking Botros a bazillion questions. The sixth year took her regular seat at the front of the room, nearest to his desk, and had filled out her name tag obligingly. Just sitting and offering to the discussion today, professor, no unnecessary pestering. Being good and stuff. She swung her legs around underneath her desk and watched him. Hiii, professor. Hi. |
Kat was here all the time. Just that she was a ninja and really stealthy which made her seem like she was there. Yep. She had been listening too, just in case they thought she wasn't because she had been a bit quiet earlier. So... that dude in the picture was kinda familiar. And holding some sort of a hybrid between a trumpet and a horn. Haha. After scanning a few pages in her textbook, because she felt like remembering names was too much effort, Kat finally found him and raised her hand. "Yeah, that's Heimdallr... and that thing he's holding is called Gjallarhorn." There. So it didn't seem like she wasn't around, you know. Because she was. |
Sure, Tobias had certainly read lots and lots for this subject. He'd really done his research and had loads of books and it was perhaps the only subject he LIKED reading about, because of the old stories............. but he couldn't concentrate on his thoughts and what was the good of reading ahead if you couldn't remember what you'd read? But he still kept taking notes from what people were saying, and sketched out the image Botros was showing them. It did all sound vaguely familiar but when Toby tried to think of something to say it didn't sound worth saying. It wasn't until ALEC mentioned a rainbow bridge that he suddenly remembered something. Tobias smiled to himself; at least his brain was starting to unfog a bit. Once he'd raised his hand and got Botros' attention, he spoke, still a little croaky and not quite at the usual tempo, but still enthusiastic. "He lives at the Bifrost. Or... on the Bifrost. Or... near the Bifrost. That's the rainbow bridge what Alec said about." Toby decided not to mention Asgard as he wasn't sure if that he was confusing real mythology with comic books. |
Adi liked this Professor instantly. He didn't know why but the man reminded him of his own grandfather. He decided Runes wasn't going to be so bad after all. Professors did play apart of a student deciding if he liked the subject, you know. Ohhh! They had looked at Thor previously? Adi was crest fallen. There were similarities between the Norse God and Superhero so he would have loved to learn more about Thor. Ah well. He'd have to make do with the guy on the board. Who was he? Adi had no idea. |
Ancient Runes. She still couldn't decide if she hated this class or Arithmancy the most. She honestly didn't even know why she was here. She knew that she needed to do better this term, but did Ancient Runes really matter? She was starting to think that the answer to that was a big fat no. Still, since she was here she might as well take a crack at it. Was she supposed to know who that was? It seemed like her peers that looked to be around her age knew the answer. Hannah was not sure at all. She didn't want to just sit there like a bump on a log so she gave it a shot. She raised her hand in the air. "Professor, is that Vindlér?" |
SQUINT at the picture. Lottie almost wanted to say Oakey Gunter to test Botros' memory, but refrained from doing so, because NO. But she did remember who he was. He had many names, of course. Hand up. "That's Heimdallr." Yup. One girl said Vindler, so, sure. Vindlher would've worked too, right? "He owns Gulltoppr, the horse with a golden mane." So, basically, blond hair, or just lighter hair. Just the horn wasn't enough, apparently. And he also had gold teeth, right? That was weird, she made a face at that. The horse was a very important FACT, Botros. Leave behind the gold teeth and Heimdallr was Lottie's favorite. Reasons. |
Oh, oh! Mo knew this one. He tilted his head thoughtfully as his classmates answered, some with the answer he thought was correct and many with other answers. West in particular got a flash of a grin in response to his recitation, and then Mo turned back to the professor. "Professor, I think that's Heimdallr, and honestly, sir, if I could choose one of those Norse gods to emulate, his life seems pretty awesome. He just sits around, guarding a bridge and drinking mead, hanging with his gold horse, waiting for a chance to do his job and blow that big horn. Oh, and also, one time he turned into a seal, so he was basically an Animagus." And so... awesome. Dude was awesome in Mo's book. |
Minerva had been spaced out since she sat down before class had started. Ancient Runes was always a subject that her mind never wanted to stay on. She felt it leaving to head in different directions. Some on classes, quidditch, and others on the owl her grandmother had sent her. Had she even said good morning to the professor, she actually was afraid she might not have. Ooops well she would make sure to speak to him after class so she wasn't rude. Hearing him she looked up and noticed the picture. Of course Min had no clue who that was. A man with a horn, did it really matter if they knew his name. Well it seemed like it at least. Listening to the others she put up her hand, "Professor I agree with everyone that said Hei..Hei.. Well that H person. Heimdal I think it was." Did she get that name right? Minerva blushed a little bit not sure if she did get the pronunciation right. Maybe next time she should listen a little better before answering and not spacing on other things. |
See, this was why this class wasn't one of her favorites despite the good professor - she really had no idea what people were saying half the time. All these names and places were so weird and hard to spell and it was just really confusing. So Penelope just kinda listened but couldn't be bothered to take notes because she couldn't spell these things correctly anyway. Unless she could look in the textbook and copy the stuff from there. But she didn't think Botros had mentioned they could use it right now so...yeah, just gonna listen and watch right now. |
SHOULDER PATS WERE HAPPENING RIGHT NOW OKAY?? Lex continued beaming up at the Professor, glad to know he'd managed to have a good summer as well. It was important to have those considering the knowledge that you'd have to come right back here come September. She personally could have had a bit more summer but you know those Government Officials, thinking they were experts on when would be ideal to start school again. Pffft. She walked back inside with the Professor. No class outside then...? Okay, she could live with that too. No big deal. Lex took her seat and waited for the Professor to begin. Unfortunately he chose to start with a guessing game. She was no good with those. Ahem. She leaned forward feigning an unnatural level of interest in the picture before finally saying, "Weeeeeell Professor, honestly, I have no idea but most of my classmates as guessing this Heimdallr guy and I as much as I'd hate to either copy from them or remain silent I must otherwise you'll think I've lost focus again." And tell her father she wasn't paying attention again. "So I'm going with what their saying." If anything, he should at least value her honesty. Just saying. |
Who was in the drawing? Sky had no idea. She really hadn't brushed up on her Norse gods at all (though, it seemed like she might need to now), but the picture did remind her of something else. Actually, a couple of somethings, but one would make her seem absolutely bonkers. After all, what seventeen year old in their right mind starts going on and on bout the Little Mermaid in the middle of class? So, she went with her original idea. "He looks like that dude who goes Riccoollllla in those commercials......" Well, he did. |

Botros hmm'ed and looked back at the blackboard, considering the girl's answer. "I'd think Bragi would have a harp, if it was to represent his music." He smiled at her, not exactly an educational answer from him but rather a chitty chat. So no. It wasn't Bragi. Quote:
... oh. Quote:
Tyr. Hmm. He looked back at the drawing and with his cane pointed at the swirly horn thing, "This. This should be your clue." He smiled at her, good guess though! Quote:
God of horns? He chuckled, the younger students were okay not to give a good guess Quote:
"Some fragmentary, found around England, showed a horned figure with round shoulders, and some runologists referred it to Loki. But this wasn't the kind of horn that Loki had. Unless he'd stolen it from this god, of course." Botros wanted to wink at the little boy, because he must've known that Loki had his antics with other gods. Good guessing, though. Quote:
Quote:
Okay, Botros now laughed. He couldn't not laugh, Heimdallr eating (slurping?) something through his horn. Oh dear Merlin. "No, dear. He's not eating. He's blowing through this instrument." Or just posing for the painter to get his drawing. Only Heimdallr didn't.. do that. "Good effort, though." Quote:
Botros respected the Gryffindor's confidence. Even if it was in the wrong place... sort of. He nodded with a smile, "You're correct. He doesn't look like Loki, but I understand why you thought of him." Mischievous grin from the old professor. He mentioned Thor and Odin for a reason, heh heh. Quote:
Hmm. Botros just stared at the Slytherin for a moment. Not sure how to respond to that... moving oooooonnn. Text Cut: Silent people He made sure the silent part of his class was awake. Text Cut: Heimdallr people Aaahh, yes. Those were correct answers, and Botros listened to all of them without interrupting but nodding his head vigorously. He gave Odessa a small clap of the hands when he quoted from the Poetic Edda's translation. This was why he thought the boy had a natural gift in runes, the father obviously worked hard on him. Or the kid loved his father limitlessly. |
At least Professor Botros didn't make Tag's answer not seem incorrect? He simply told Tag he could see the little blonde's point of view. An that was much better than hearing he was completely wrong. Thanks Professor! Now, looking up at the blackboard Tag read through the points and then began searching through his textbook. Looking for key words in terms of which rune it could be most associated to Heimdallr. Raising his hand Tag gave his input, "Well, by the looks of the notes on the board it seems like Heimdallr is some sort of protector. He calls upon the gods when there's danger, he guards the rainbow bridge and he's called the Watchful God..." glancing back at his textbook to give his final answer Tag said, "Could it be Algiz? The rune, I mean." The words and descriptions seemed to match up a bit. |
"What he said." Tag got a thumb jab in his direction and a grin. "Algiz means protection and defense and all that. But the rune doesn't only have to do with Heimdallr's horn, it's associated with his sword as well, right, professor?" She wasn't exactly sure why, though. Answers? Shoulder pats? Both were appreciated, Botros. Alice gave him hopeful looks. |
Maika raised her hand. "Hagalaz, I think. I know that sounds strange because it's a rune of destruction, but it makes sense at the same time, if you ask me." She set her book down. It was most certainly not a text book. "While he does not cause the end of the world, he heralds it. Like the Prophecy of the Phoenix in the book I've been reading. Portents of destruction or bad omens are often treated the same as the destruction itself. I know I'm essentially 'blaming the messenger,' so to speak, but the very fact that he exists to sound his horn at Ragnarok means that Ragnarok will come. He and Ragnarok are intertwined in a destiny of destruction." |
Wade merely nodded after hearing he was correct along with the others, before jotting down in his notes on the current facts of Heimdallr. Hmm.. which rune best suited him. Wade looked up rereading the facts, before raising his hand, "I think Naudhiz suited him. Given the use of his horn, Gjallarhorn, had him carrying a great responsibility being able to warn others of danger, and not sleeping much as well.. It had to have given him a great sense of need from the others." |

Quick she made her notes, but… she noted the answers her fellow students had gave on a other parchment, ready to remove the ones who were fault so that she only would have the best answers! And… there were a LOT things she needed to write! Why were there so much people who were answering the professor? Was she the only one who DIDN’T had spoken? Hmm, she just didn’t had knew the answer for this question, Ancient Runes was a really difficult lesson and she had always had trouble with it, so it was strange to see that so much people were trying to answer this question and that a lot of them had even been given the right answer! WOW! But… she didn’t minded it, she could make her notes and benefit from them! Heimdallr wrote Sonea on her parchment to NOT forget that name again. But… she had been right, she didn’t had known the right answer, she even didn’t had heard of it EVER before in her life, and she was really smart you know… So this must be a really difficult lesson! Quote:
And now, this question made Sonea REALLY frustrated, she really didn’t understood ANYTHING from this lesson and she didn’t knew the right answer, so without thinking she sighed loudly and folded her arms. This was stupid, why was this lesson so difficult and wasn’t she able to remember the right answers? With a irritating look in her eyes she stared down at her notes, TRYING to think of a answer but she really had NO idea… she felt so stupid right now! |
SPOILER!!: Botros Adelaide looked closer at the picture. Right. "Thanks for clearing that up Professor." At least he hadn't just outright told her no. Now she knew who it wasn't. Just to wait for him to say who it was. Heimdallr. Right. How could she have forgotten about him? She looked over at West as Botros commended his poetry reciting. Now that was definitely something she didn't expect from someone their age. She wrote the name at the top of her parchment, underlining it before writing down the list of things. As for Runes, she had no idea. This was another subject she hadn't really touched. Sure they went over it vaguely, but not in depth. So Addi just had her pen poised to take notes. |
"Algiz... Hagalaz.... Nauthiz... they're all associated with him, on account of they're all part of the aett that is associated with him." Hand raised, West pointed this out having heard his classmates answers so far. So they were all right yeah? They were all part of the second aett in fact. Knowing that made it harder to choose just one though, and there were more than what had been said already. Adelaide was looking at him. What? He smiled absently at the new Slytherin girl, then he transferred his gaze back to the front of the room; to the blackboard and the professor. |
For a first year that had never even heard of a single thing about Ancient Runes till now, Abigail Campbell was rather confused and for once in her life decided it was alright to not make a racket. Question was, how long could her mouth be shut for? Trying to figure everything out the eleven year old sat in her desk, scratching her chin slightly. What she did get so far was: There was a picture of this man. His name was some strange sounding name with an H. He was somehow associated with Runes. That's all she understood. Miss Abbi was clever though, because she knew what she would do to get an answer. She'd get 'help' from someone. Team work was a good thing, you know. Ohhh! Speaking of team work, there was Miss Captain red, the witch eater. What was she saying? Mhhhhm. That answer. She was going to say it too. "Like Miss Witch Eater/Captain Red said!" Her mouth opened after a raise of a hand." That Algae thing." Whatever it really was. |
Ohhh! Heimdallr. Whoever that was. Adi had never heard of him before. Then again, he wasn't really knowledgeable about Norse stuff. But that was going to change now, wasn't it? Quickly, he copied what was on the board as he thought about the rune which best suited Heimdallr. The first year did go through his Runes text so he was knew what some of the Runes meant. He raised his hand. "I'd go with Algiz too, Professor.'' |
Even though Caleb thought mythology and stuff was cool and interesting, sometimes it baffled him. Like HOW did someone come from NINE mothers? That made no sense whatsoever. And less sleep than a bird? Did birds even sleep? He made his notes on his parchment and then flipped through his textbook to try and find the correct rune to match with the god. Hmmm. Which one did he think was the BEST rune? He finally raised his hand. "Well, as a lot of my classmates have said, Algiz seems like a good fit. However I think that Eihwaz could be a good fit as well and that's what I'm going with. It means trustworthiness, and you can't have someone guarding something if you don't trust them," he pointed out. "Plus, it also means strength, and if anything tries to come through that Rainbow Road, he has to try stop them and that requires tremendous strength," he added. BAM! A+ answer right there. Man, he was so good. |
Ella smiled a little at Botros and took down the information she hadn't yet memorized, impressed by West's answer the most. He knew a lot about a lot, huh? Sometimes Ella wondered how he thought straight with all that information floating around inside of his head. It must be crowded up there, she thought. As for which rune was associated the most with Heimdallr, the blonde nodded at what West said |
Nashville sat there in class just turning the pages in his textbook, he rolled his wand on the desk and listened to what the professor and the other students were saying, he wasn't much into being in class today, he was tired and he could feel a headache starting to form but he did want to be on the Quidditch team until the season ended so he couldn't just get up and walk out of class but any other time he would have loved to be in class but not today. |
He would have never guessed that to be Heimdallr. Nope, didn't look anything like him. But, he scribbled down the information and started thinking through what Rune he would represent. Heimdallr seemed to be a big protector and help in defense. Asher glanced through the different runes and decided that he had an answer. "Professor, I believe that Algiz would be the rune represented by Heimdallr. Algiz is for protection, defense, and warning. He would warn the others with his horn, providing protection." Asher wasn't sure if that was the correct answer, but it did sound like a good guess either way. He continued to write down what the other students were saying, making notes over the different runes they thought were correct. |
Yep. Heimdallr, it was. Kat watched the things on the board and copied them down in her parchment. Might be some important information, you know. Nine mothers. Like, how is that possible? But then, yes, she knew that this was Norse Mythology and stuff related to that. She knew that mythology was usually weird, irrational, but definitely interesting. Especially since she wanted to know stuff about gods and goddesses. Those were her things, yes. And... uhm. Runes. She'd leave those to the others who had eager and thoughtful minds. |
Professor say WHAAA? How did these students know all this information already without even being told? Did Sophie miss some memo on studying this ahead of time? There was Caleb giving an all-star answer, too. Where did THAT even come from? Sophie made a mental note to talk to her parents about dropping this class ASAP. She copied the notes on whatever that man's name was and then flipped through her book. Okay, so which rune was associated with this guy? She slooooowly raised her hand. "I'm going to go with Algiz, because it deals with protection and shielding, and we just learned that he uses that horn to alert people when giants are near," she said. "...and maybe Kenaz, since it deals with vision and revelation, and he can tell when danger is near." |
Uhmmmmm.... Hard stuff. Marigold bit her lip and tried to think of an answer, but she couldn't. She listened to the other students' answers and nodded her head. "Algiz would work," she said, nodding vigorously. Other than that, she was a bit confused, and hoped it was an okay answer. |
Kace was glad he made the professor laugh. At least he brightened up his day. Kace grinned and was glad he made a good effort. Then he heard the professor move on and he started to take notes when he flipped over the board. Hmm...so now he wanted the rune most associated with him. Kace heard Ella's answer and agreed with her. He raised his hand and said..... "Professor i agree with Ella on Eihwaz because when i read the notes i can make out he is reliable, strong, and protective." |
Tobias got grins. BIG WIDE GRINS. Because their answers sort of connected, yeah? Yeah! Moving on... when the list had appeared, Alec took a moment to scan through it before picking up his quill and scribbling it down. This was likely to be useful at some point. And though they weren't learning about Thor, this was still interesting. He even made a tiny reference to Mario Kart in his notes. One. Tiny. Reference. THERE. It seemed as though the boy had been too busy noting things down to note that he should be looking for the right rune as well. ... Yeah. That wasn't good. Frowning to himself, he reached over and flipped through his textbook until he reached the description of the runes. His grey-blue eyes scanned the paragraphs before he flipped through a couple more pages. ... Right. Okay. He had an answer. "Professor?" he started, looking up and raising his hand in the air, "Erm... I agree with the others who said that it could be Algiz." That was a lame start. "Erm... in the magical effects section, it says that the Galdr for this rune can act as a connecting bridge which... links into the Biforst bridge part, I guess." Did it seem like he was too invested in this bridge? Maybe. "And... yeah, there's the whole protection and defence and that's really what Heimdallr did." Like the others had mentioned. Right? Yeah? Nodnod. |
Adrienne nodded and looked down. No more guessing for her, seriously, all she did was make herself look like a fool and not get her point across. She had meant that Tyr was calling them to war with the sound of his horn, but of course now she wasn't going to explain it! Besides, Heimdallr made much more sense and was... actually the right answer, so she moved on to runes and began thinking back to the textbook she'd read back home before school started. It seemed like just about everyone had already said what Adrienne wanted to say, though. Algiz, protection, guarding, the Hufflepuff from Astronomy (ugh) had even mentiond what she was about to contribute about its Galdr. There wasn't really much left to say about it. "I agree with most everyone about Algiz," she said, "but I also think Kenaz is a pretty good fit." Had anyone mentioned that before? Maybe one person, but it certainly wasn't as unanimous of an answer. "Since he's seen as the Watchful of gods, it makes sense that a rune for insight and wisdom would refer to him somewhat. Also, its Galdr can be used for the banishment of darkness, right, but not destroying it, which is kind of what Heimdallr does when he guards the Bifrost and calls the other gods to protect it." So ha, annoying Hufflepuff, Adrienne could have good reasoning too. |
Nigel had no idea what rune best fit Heimdallr. Was there a correct answer or was this just a guess. It could be Ansuz . Since he was a god. But Nigel was not a master at Norse Mythology. But why not. "Ansuz" Probably was Algiz. But it not like Nigel was being graded on this answer or anything. That would be just plain weird. |
Nicola smiled seeing Botros light up when he heard the correct answers he was looking for. She thought he was such a sweet & intelligent man. Nicola then listened intently once he continued on with the lesson. Which rune was most associated with Heimdallr? Leaning back in her seat, she actually had to pause for a moment as each rune raced through her brain. ... The first to pop up in her mind was rather quite obvious. The Rune Algiz, because she did know that that rune did stand for Protection itself, and what did Heimdallr stand for with his trumpet? Protecting the gods in case of a threat. She was very tempted to raise her hand and call this out, but a number of students had already done so; No Name being one of them, so her hand remained where it was. Then some girl who was in Hufflepuff had pointed out another rune. The Rune Eihwaz. She had to admit, that was a really good one actually, it did relate to Heimdallr more closely than Algiz. But both of these runes were both very good answers. Instead of trying to take credit for these answers Nicola just raised her hand saying, "Even though they have already been mentioned Professor, I would probably feel that either Algiz or Eihwaz would best relate to Heimdallr.." She paused, "But I'm leaning a little more towards Eihwaz as well, because it meant the need to address a problem well in advance, before it could become serious, like Heimdallr did before a threat could fall upon the gods themselves when he would warn them with Gjallarhorn.." |
While the others spoke of Heimdall, she ran the name through her head a few times. No, she hadn't really read up on him before, no reading for us, but she HAD read up on the runes and those were what the Professor was asking about. She gave it some thought, going through the runes in her head a couple times, trying to see what she could remember before finally flipping open her textbook and simply skimming through the runes. Lex already knew them, but she needed some little reminders. Her fingers ran across the words idly, skipping the enter first aett as she remembered that belong to Freya. The second aett was what she needed--THAT'S where she'd heard him name! Ooohhhhhh. Heh, the guy was familiar afterall. This is why they should put pictures in textbooks. She would have totally guessed right without copying, True story. Anyway, she found what she was looking for and raised her hand. "I believe the rune is Algiz Professor. The rune stands for Protection, defense and warning. Heimdall is the Guardian of the bridge between worlds. He's the one that protects it and warns those passing between then. Kinda like giving little cautions." |

She just sat there listening to other's answering and debating. Wow, they really had an idea about the man. Just when she thought she understood runes and their meanings, professor old starts showing them pictures. Just the thing she doesn't know about. Humph. She remained silent and listened to know about the man in the picture while she scribbled down notes. Oh, this time she was going to speak and answer what she thought. "Uruz." She answered. "the man looks strong and so Thor's rune makes sense." Totally. Though everyone was suggesting something else. Eh, oh, well. |
Mo propped his chin back on his fist and once again absently listened to his classmates speak. Most of them were on the same page as he was, which was sorta... depressing. Like they were all uber smart at this subject so what was the point of really trying? Unless they would get to do something practical next? He sat up eagerly, ready to participate if it would smooth along the lesson toward the activity. "I say Algiz too, Professor. Heimdall is like the guard at the front door. He's honed specifically to be watchful and ready, and that's exactly what Algiz says to me. Not just protecting, but being protected through preparation and design." Yup. So says Mo. |
Vesper was struck by how poetic those facts were. It was fact that she didn't know much about Norse mythology; her strength lying in Greek and Roman myths. Like the Icarus stuff in Astronomy......but that wasn't to say that she wasn't suddenly extremely interested. Oh yes. Notebook was out. All the things were being written...because they hadn't talked about this kind of thing in France. It also reminder her of a television show she'd seen once...Odin was the all-father and he was in search of his Frigg...She'd fangirled and crushed on the actor who'd played Bragi...because. Just because. Heh. She may or may not have even had a notebook at the time that was tucked away somewhere and full of sketches... Concerning the lesson, though...all she really knew just from reading was that Heimdallr ruled over the second ætt...with Mordgood?...Mordgud? The name was fuzzy to her. So, it'd be one of those runes, right? Maybe she could just select one at random...and that'd be it? Would luck be on her side like that? "Algiz...because it's a protection rune?" Well, there were several that were protection runes...but it was in the second ætt. Blush....Bluuuuuuush. |
please read the full post for more info about the rune xo SPOILER!!: Answers! Text Cut: The silence Botros kept an eye on the forever-silent students. He didn't mind if they were paying attention and writing down some notes. |
Ella smiled big at Botros and bigger at Alec when he got good feedback for his answer. Smart boyfriend was smart and Ella was proud. As for the notes, Ella took them down even if they were in the textbook. It always helped her remember things better when she wrote them down. Scribble. Scribble. Scribble. And then they were talking about the carving spell and Ella smiled softly, hand raised in the air. They'd used this a lot so she was very familiar. "Professor, the incantation of the carving spell is Intaglio and you want to press your wand to a surface and make the shape of whatever you wish to carve, concentrating on the shape." With that said, the blonde got out her quill and began to draw over and over. And guests? BROWS for that. What kind of guests were they having? Scribble. Scribble. Scribble. Algiz looked like a little birdy foot, didn't it? |
Tobias was chewing on the end of his quill, and it had taken him about 10 minutes to realised that this wasn't a SUGAR quill but just a regular one. He suddenly stopped upon realising this and leaned back, looking at the feathered end of the quill. Ew. So he'd been eating a feather? Why? Why was he doing that? Wrinkling his nose slightly, Tobias soon looked up to the front again. Oh... they'd moved on? GAH! What was WITH him today? Why was he getting so off track in the very class he'd been so looking forward to getting back to all summer? It was enough to really wind him up, and Toby had to fight the urge to get angry at himself. He focused on the thought that he could still do well in the rest of the lesson, and proved this to himself by sticking his hand up. "Is it the intaglio spell thing, sir? You say 'intaglio' and then the rune and keep repeating the rune until you've finished carving it. Oh, and you need to like... sort of trace the rune as though you're writing it with the tip of your wand." Right? Maybe? That said, once he'd caught up on the notes from the blackboard Tobias practiced writing out the rune algiz. He didn't really need to practice it; it had definitely cropped up a couple of times in the letter he'd written to Botros over summer, but Tobias wasn't big-headed enough to believe that he was above practicing writing the rune. You could always do with practice, and you could always improve. Like he could totally improve at how well he was doing in the class, and his brain would improve at staying focused. |
Slight catch up! Hope this is ok. >.< Quote:
Based on all of the characteristics of Heimdallr, Hannah thought that the rune that best represented him was Mannaz. Mannaz represented mankind and he was a man right? Of course he was so it made total sense. The sixth years hand was in the air. "I think the rune Mannaz is most associated with Heimdallr because if represents mankind and a sense of self." That was pretty self explanatory right? It made sense to her, if that even counted for anything. Quote:
Hannah wrote down the notes on the board even though she was sure that writing them down would not help them burn in her mind any better. Moving on. The professor was asking about the carving spell. "Professor I think the incantation is defodio." She wasn't exactly sure about the wand movement. Now she had to practice drawing a rune? What kind of waste of time was that? UGH! She pulled out a spare piece of parchment and got to work. |
Adi made his notes, his little left hand flying over the page of his book as he wrote. the amount of stuff he had already learnt and the lesson had not even gone half way as yet! Incantation for carving? He knew! It was Intag... Intag....Intag what? He had forgotten! Arrrgh! Thhat was one of the most frustrating things ever! Having the answer on the tip of your tongue and not being able to recall it fully. But he did know the answer to the other part of the question. Adi raised his hand. "Professor, you chant the name of the rune you want to carve. But there's the incantation that must be first said before the chanting. I um...forgot what it was.'' And who were these guests? He was curious but he pushed the thoughts out of his head and began practicing drawing the rune. Over and over and over the first year drew Algiz's symbol. |
Since intaglio had been said, West didn't bother answering again with the same thing. He also didn't write down notes because he just never needed to, so it was just time to wait and see what or who these guests would be. |
Sky had been taking notes, since she'd had absolutely no idea about which rune was Heimdallr's. And considering the look she had received for her last answer, it was probably for the best. Wait, had Botros said guests? What kind of guests did he mean? Did they have something to do with the statues in the corridor? "The spell's 'Intaglio' and you repeat the name of the rune you're carving until the rune is complete." Well, she figured she better make up for her off the wall answer followed by her note taking silence. And what better way than this kind of complicated spell? |
Tora didn't know the spell to carve a rune. Hadn't known. Now she knew just from listening to her fellow classmates, but if she raised her hand to say the answer, it would feel like cheating to her, so she left it be. Instead she practiced writing the rune. Honestly it was pretty simple. Like an upside down broomstick... sort of. Still, she wanted to draw it right. Photos!: Parchment! Ok this was harder than she originally thought. Eventually (after twelve tries!) she got it right. Just to make sure, she drew two more. Apparently it wasn't luck! She could now draw Algiz! She circled the correct ones, so that when the Professor came around he would be able to tell which ones Tora actually considered successful. |
Kace was hearing that they were having guests? Hmm...that was interesting. He wondered who they could be. Then he perked his ears up for this one. He forgot how to do the carving, good thing the professor was going over it. He tried drawing out the rune. It did look like a ducks foot actually. He scribbled....scribbled....scribbled....and even more scribble till he got the shape right. Once he got the hang of the shape. He waited till hear how he should preform the spell. He even wrote Algiz on his notes so he won't be confused. |
AHA! Tag was sort of lightly bouncing in his seat. Paying attention to the Professor a bit more he heard that the answer he'd given was actually correct. See now why Tag liked this class! He was rather happy about that too. So, as Botros said Tag wrote down the notes he'd written on the blackboard. Those would come in handy in studying for his OWLS. Thanks Professor! For the notes, that is. Uhhhhh. Now he wanted to hear what the carving spell was. Oh oh. Tag couldn't remember that, so he sort of shrunk- if that was possible for a guy his height at his age- more into his seat. He should know this. Yes? Then Ella said it was Intaglio. Tag would trust her. She was usually right, and rather smart. Yes? Yes! Though, he didn't write down that answer for the moment, in case Botros had more to say. Although, now that he thought about it, it seemed like Intaglio seemed familiar? Hadn't they used it in that maze activity in this class last year? Tag couldn't quite remember though. So he silently sat there. In the meantime though, Tag started to practice drawing the Algiz rune. Being productive and all. |
Well. Adrienne shot a gentle glare at Tora- she wasn't properly mad, but she didn't like her friends being better than her at things, and she was pretty sure Tora was at least 12% better than her at Ancient Runes. Ugh. And now she was annoyed, so she couldn't even remember that rune incantation, even though she knew she'd done it last class. Besides, other people would surely answer for her, so she just added a rune drawing onto the end of her notes. Photos!: Adrienne's Parchment Okay, so that looked... totally fine. There was no apparent reason for her to practice it. Seriously, it was just three lines, how could it not look fine? So while other people were drawing Algizes, Adrienne spent her time drawing stupid comics. Yayyy. |
