Beezus was tired......really tired. Elise was driving the team nuts with the practice schedules she had put up and that, plus Prefect duties and girlfriend responsibilities....the brunette just needed a little bit of space...from everything....even for just two hours of today or the whole afternoon preferably. Hence, she was spending her free time here at the docks, soaking her feet in the lake's cold water while humming thoughtfully as she leaned on one of the wooden posts.

She closed her eyes and hugged herself. It was starting to get cold out here but she didn't want to go inside the castle just yet. Gah. What a dilemma.

Oakey hated this Month. Nothing good ever came with December until after Christmas. For now, he'll keep his distance from everyone and just throw rocks in the lake from the swimming docks. No one swam in the lake when it was below thirty degrees. Unless you were a Crazy Ravenclaw or just plain crazy to boot.

So looking nowhere but forward Oakey walked onto the docks, and tripped over something that was leaning on one of the wooden posts.

SPLASH!

Was she really falling asleep? Eh. She was....drowsing off. Out in the cold. That was not good. If worse came to worst, she could freeze out there and the blood circulating to keep her alive would also freeze and she would.....die....earlier than was anticipated. Meh. Not good indeed. So, Beezus breathed in and gave herself a two more minutes to stay there before she would go back inside........

.......until something collided with her hunched figure. Thanks to the posts she was holding onto, her assailant went to the water first with a resounding SPLASH!....oh, wait...she spoke to early because she was now losing balance....and into the water she went too.

SPLAAASH.

"Brrcold...holybrrr...brrrrsnitch...." She half-screamed as she gasped for air in between the cold waters.

And then she saw a head resurfacing from the water. Instinctively, the now soaked brunette HARSHLY splashed water on whomever it was. "You.....You....!"

Tripped he was tripped! Who? why!?
Oakey stay submerged in the icy cold water for just a moment then quickly shot his head out of the water taking a deep breathe. Only to swallow three splashes of water coming in his direction!

So he tred in the water, and coughed up what went into his mouth. "T-th-t-the-the Hell?" this water was too cold! So he splashed back at whoever splashed at him. "Me!...y-Yo-You!" and he splashed again.
After he finished splashing back at the Mystery Splasher he got a good look at her..."B-b-b-b-b-Be-B..." Yeah that would about do it. Everyone called her Bee Anyways.

So he kept on tredding water, and looking shocked at the Ravenclaw Girl Swimming with him.

"Ugh!" The nerve...splashing back at her. Spit, spit! Water spit, yo. "I sh-should've....known it...it was y-you......" Beezus rashly wiped the wet hair that was on her face as she glared at the Head Boy, spitting cold lake water as she still alternated between splashing water towards him and paddling with her arms and feet to keep herself on the water's surface.

Merlin. Oakey ALWAYS finds a way to bust her bubble.

"I-If....you wanted to drown yourself.......y-you didn't.....ne-need to brrrring me along, y-you know..." The water was too cold. In fact, Beezus was now trying to swim towards the dock and heave herself out of those waters. She was so going to get sick again because of what he'd done.

Nashville popped his head up from under the water. He ran his right hand through his wet hair. Now what were they talking about? Was it something important? Nashville shrugged in the cold water. For as cold as it was it was really relaxing and he needed this. His crazy ex girlfriend was stalking him...or something like that...yeah?

WHAT IF SHE WAS IN THE WATER RIGHT NOW?

Nashville swam closer to the dock and rested his arms on the dock. He gave Minerva and Mika a small smile.

Bartholomew Henry felt.... a disturbance in the force. Yes, the water was definitely swirling differently right now. And in that area of the Black Lake, that usually meant students swimming. But in December? Surely not. The water must be freezing for them. This led Bartholomew Henry to conclude that said student did not WANT to be in the water.

He set off to investigate, long tentacles gracefully but powerfully propelling him quickly through the murky water. Sure enough. Two! And they're yelling. Always the yelling. I don't come because I HEAR you, children. I FEEL you. Tut tut.

Wrapping one giant tentacle around each midriff, Bartholomew Henry lifted the students out of the water and set them gently upon the dock. Raising his head above water a bit, he looked them both in the eye, each in turn. "Best to stay out of the lake, young ones. I'd see to drying yourselves off and warming up straight away if I were you." And without further comment, he sunk back into the watery depths. He was gone.

Now that he knew who it was he tried to apologize, but Beezus was dead-set on just splashing him more with the cold lake water. "Be-B-Z-Beez-Stop-Stop. I-I'm so-sorry...Stop" She wasn't serious was she, Oakey started to swim back behind he. He needed to explain himself before she decided to go and cry to Dylan. The Snake Captain would kill him if Beezus tattled on him for tripping Beezus into the Black Lake. Which he didn't she tripped him in. "Bee-B-Wa-wait." ...Paddle Paddle.... ...paddle paddle...uhhh... he wasn't tredding water now, where did the water go?

Hold up, something was holding him out of the water and moving him back to the docks...

He was being wrapped up around the waist by a tentacle! As he was set down on the dock beside Beezus.

It was the Giant Squid, and he was telling them to dry up and stay out of the water. Before he could even utter a thank you to Bartholomew Henry. The Squid was gone.

Anyways, that helped get him close to Beezus. "W-w-we should hurry up and get wa-warm, like B-bar-th...B-Ba-Hen-like the -S-quid said." reaching down to his wand holster Oakey pulled it out. A few Hot air charms should do the trick. So with a few quick waves of his wet wand, Oakey sent out too big a burst of hot air and....

SPLASH!

Backwards he went into the Lake again...Beezus wasn't caught in it this time was she? He paddled himself back to the edge of the dock and pulled himself up leaning his upper half on the edge of the dock.

Whatever.....has she done to you to receive this kind of treatment, huh Oakey? Beezus knew that she done nothing.....dreadful to him. In fact, she did him a favor. She helped him with Dylan and this was the payment she was going to get? Being pushed over to the Black Lake when the water was icy cold and she had just gotten over a three-day fever? SWEET MERLIN...

The Ravenclaw was on the act of paddling towards the docks....in utmost difficulty too because her tips were started to get numb because of the coldness.....but she still kept splashing water to Oakey's direction whenever she could, mumbling in between gasps for air and spits of water how she absolutely didn't want to die with him..... And then, out of her struggling, she felt something slimy wrap her waist......she was being lifted out of the water. ASDFGHJKL! Meep! Meep! "W-Wa-Wait...." O_____o It was the Giant Squid.... the next thing she knew, her wet footwear reached the wood of the docks and Sir Bartholomew was.....er, lecturing her and Oakey. "I....uh..." But before she could mutter a 'thank you' of some sort, the Giant Squid throttled deep back into the Lake.

........BRRRRR.

Oh, hi Oakey!Trouble face...didn't see 'ya there. Pfft. Get warm? Yeah...she was going to get warm. At their Common Room. As she had planned before Oakey dumped her into the Lake. O_______________O "H-H-Heeey." Drop the wand, Oakey! Drop the wa----OH NO!

Beezus ducked JUST IN TIME to avoid being hit by the Head Boy's spell, thus, she was saved from the second dip in the water. But he wasn't...Gaaaaaaah. Why did he have to be such a klutz? Merlin......and why was she being a nice Ravenclaw? She was helping him up to the dock despite her shivering.....and yeah......"L-Let me, w-would you?" .......She pulled out her wand, "Siccus Aerous." And out from the wand's tip came a jet of warm air that she pointed towards the Hufflepuff just enough for him to dry in less than a minute....and then it was her turn.

Yet another day found Lex sitting by the docks. It wasn't like she came looking for Mr. Giant Squid everyday but she was quite diligent in doing it. One day he'd show up and she'd dive in after him like a maniac be as happy as an Alexa in a candy store but for now she sat, feet kicking in the cold water.

It kept her awake.

Besides, it wasn't all that cold. Not as cold as it'd been when it drew closer to December. Spring would be soon--just don't tell the climate that because it seemed to have plans of it's own. Cold cold cold. How was anyone meant to enjoy ice-cream when it was always so cold? Oh right. Like this. She shoved another spoonful into her mouth then went on looking.

One day the Giant Squid will come. One day.

Preferably before she graduated, which would be in a few years but you know, who's counting?

Forrest had finally accepted that he needed fresh air. He hadn't left the castle for about a month, except to go to Herbology, and now he felt SUFFOCATED. He'd been feeling like that for quite a while now, but this fight with Sonea was the last drop and wrapping himself thorougly inside his coats and scarves, he stepped outside after finishing the homework.

He headed directly to the lake, hoping there wouldn't be too many people there. He wanted some silence as he was gloomy again. He missed his mother crazily, and--was that Alexa? Squinting his eyes against the Sun, he stared at the figure on the swimming dock for a few seconds until he deemed it was her, and then he ran to her with glee.

"Alexaaaaaa!" he exclaimed on his way to not startle her, and he kept his arms open to HUG her. It was his way of coping with melancholy--always have friends around you to stop thinking and missing. And this was exactly what he intended to do with Alexa--if she wanted him too, of course.

When she thought she'd seen something moving beneath her feet she began kicking harder hoping to either scare it away or draw it to the surface so she could see. Either worked for her so long as something interesting happened. As it were. She was just staring at water with no giant squid--

Bliiiink? Why did that sound so much like Forrest? She missed him. Hadn't run into him outside of classes in a while.

She turned in time to see him hurrying toward her. Heeeey, was he gonna give her a hug?? Was that what the arm thing was?? Merlin she hoped so! Lex hopped up just as he got to her and pulled him into a hug. "You! I haven't seen you in forever!! Where have you been?" Dumb question, Common Room probably. And he felt so warm, so very warm. Did she have to let go? She would, once he pulled away but moments like these were treasured. Hugs were the best, OKAY????

She also wanted to ask him about that Sonea girl, but she'd wait a bit. He'd only just gotten here.

Forrest BEAMED when she hugged him, and he squeeeeezed her before he let go. See how much he missed talking to her? CRAZY stuff was happening and he wanted to ask her.

"I haven't seen you too!" he replied sheepily. If she hadn't seen him, he wouldn't see her too. Really clever, Forrest. "I was hiding in the common room," he admitted somewhat shyly. He had been too gloomy and cold to leave it ever except for classes.

"How about you?" Y'know, she wasn't quite around too.

Once the hug ended, she plopped down on the dock again and gestured for him to sit next to her, giving him a grin too. It'd been too long and she'd been worried that in her absence someone had been picking on him. An idea that wasn't all that far fetched from what she'd heard that Sonea girl saying.

Whoa! Stop! Hiding? Lex raised a suspicious eyebrow at him. "Hiding? What for? Someone outside scaring you? You can tell me if that's the case." She would take care of it. She really would. Just...how she took care of it depended on who the offender was. "And how've you been with that Sonea girl? I know you know her because she was talking about you." In ways that gave her wand ideas.

But about her. "I've been busy blowing things up!" BEAM. " I mean, not the whole time, I was in detention last week but that was kinda fun and I got ice-cream so I didn't mind." She added a shrug to that. Mostly normal stuff.

Forrest tried his best casual shrug as he sat down cross-legged. He didn't want to tell about the agony he felt for being so away from his mother and Sonea to anyone. It was funny how the victims of bullying usually developed a 'silence' policy. He had always felt uncomfortable talking about being bullied in his previous schools, and he was going to keep his mouth shut this time too.

"I'm hiding from cold," he said. It was one of his reasons to never leave the castle, but it didn't explain the triangle of common room-classes-great hall. Should he tell he had very few friends--oh, she knew about Sonea. He fidgeted with his friends, avoiding eye contact.

"Yeah, um... we're fine. She didn't do much harm, really..." He tried laughing, but it more sounded like he was in pain. He didn't want to know what she told about him. He didn't want to even hear her name. But he was curious, really.

"She just called me a 'mudblood'," he said, stealing a glance at her face before he looked away quickly. Why was HE embarrassed about HER insult, as if he was the guilty one? His forehead creased. Maybe he shouldn't have told Alexa. He really didn't want her to be in trouble too...

More confusion for his little head. "Detention was good because you got ice-cream?" He looked at her incredibly. "But what did you blow off?" He actually struggled between awesome! and dangerous! and eyed her worriedly.

Alexa was oblivious, everyone knew that. But she was only as oblivious as she wanted to be, which wasn't much right now. Seeing as Forrest wasn't about to be very forthcoming with anything she would have to try reading something out of him. From what she could tell there was something that was making him unhappy but she couldn't get much more unless he told her so maybe she'd drop it until he was ready to bring it up?

"The cold?" She giggled a bit. "I think I've gotten immune to this cold with all the ice-cream I've been eating. Have you been having any?" Iiiiiice-creeeeam. It always made her happy.

And the Slytherin girl hadn't done much damage. Huh. Was that a fact? It didn't make her any less sorry for making her cry that one time. "Will you let me know if she does? You're not a target or someone's beating stick, okay?" Okay buddy????

"EHHHHHHHHHHHH????" Her eyes shot to him, searching his in case he was over-exaggerating just a bit. Mudblood wasn't cool. Her friend got called that once and she broke the culprit's nose. Her eyes narrowed a bit. "And you didn't deck her for it??--I mean no, no hitting," he might have hurt himself as well, "blood types don't matter. You know that, right?" And she would have to have a word with certain people. It may not have mattered but it upset Forrest and that was enough.

She grinned, giggling again. "Sure was! The Professor was loads of fun too. She made it entertaining but I didn't get detention for blowing things up." just clearing that up. "But tons of stuff. I learned a few new spells that did it and wanted to try them out! I can show you one if you'd like!"

Forrest wrinkled his nose at the mention of ice-cream. He was traumatised, and he wasn't exaggerating at all. He couldn't get how she was so happy while talking about it. Maybe she had a good memory while eating ice-cream? Though honestly, what could possibly happen when it came to ice-cream? More stuff that eluded little boy.

"Yeah, I've eaten my life load of it." He made a face of disgust, then it turned into uneasiness again. "Yeah, thanks. You don't have to bother protecting me though, y'know." In fact, he still couldn't believe that she cared about him this much. Only his mother had been this concerned about him. It touched his heart and he was afraid if he didn't show her his gratitude, she'd leave him.

He grinned when she asked whether he'd answered her back. "I did better," he said, eyes shining like the Sun. "She charmed the Weasley Swamp after me and I was drenched in mud. She goes livid when she's confronted with it," just so Alexa knew how to protect herself too, "so I simply hugged her. She lost it." He grinned again, though his grin was dimmed upon remembering this had cost Hufflepuff five points. Anyways, Sonea knew Forrest was capable of hurting her too. Alexa would surely appreciate his effort too, right?

"Of course. I know that," he said as he did his best to smile, but deep down he was still sure purebloods were better than him. He was an outsider, an intruder into this world, and Sonea was just right to exclaim so. His wandwork was pathetic, but no one needed to know about his fears.

She was obviously excited about these new spells. He jumped on the subject to distract her.

"You got detention because of these spells?" he asked, awed. "Show me!"

Was it just her, or had he wrinkled his nose at the idea of ice-cream? Was that possible? Probably not. It had to be something else. She was thinking into it too much. No one could resist the ice-cream. It was the best she'd tasted in forever. It was like something was different about it but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

"Life load, huh? I think I hit my life load back in October but I keep going. It's so good and the sundaes are amazing." Er...but she'd stop talking about it because it almost looked like it was making him sick. She'd instead offer him some reassurance. "I know I don't have to, but I want to. You're good people, I like you. I like you a lot better than someone who cries because you say their rat is ugly." Pink was a hideous colour!!!! "And if you're worried about me getting in trouble for sticking up for you, don't. I get in trouble on my own anyway." And she offered him a wink to set him at ease. It was no big deal.

Lex listened to his reasoning and couldn't help but burst out laughing. This was much better than throwing a punch if you asked her. "Brilliant! I wish I could have seen it. Good thinking on your part." GRIN. Hugging that did more damage. Epic.

"And goood. Don't let anyone tell you your less. Purebloods aren't that different. In fact, I know Halfbloods who could fly circles around me in spell work." But not defensive spells. Those were her territory.

She waved off his question but grinned wider. "Nah, I got detention for taking the school gems and lying about it." Quite suddenly she hopped up. "Okay! I'll show you one I taught myself. Watch that rock." She said, pointing out toward the lake. "Bombarda!" BOOM! The rock flew a part almost immediately. "Pretty neat, huh?"

Forrest tried shrugging casually. He didn't want to offend her with his dislike for ice-cream, so he kept silent about it. It was always good to distract someone when he didn't want to speak about something, and luckily, Alexa was easily distracted.

Did that make him cunning like Slytherins? Hopefully not.

Forrest giggled when Alexa criticised Sonea like that. "I like you too," he said--the only way he could show his gratitude. "Thank you, Alexa." His heart swelled all of a sudden and he experienced a whole new feeling, but he couldn't name it. He resolved to think he was the luckiest boy in the school to have someone like Alexa to protect him. She was definitely the best.

And some more PROUD giggling. "Thanks," he said, blushing lightly. Really. He was still surprised at himself for thinking that.

It was easy for her to say, though. She was already perfect at wandwork, a pureblood and a Gryffindor. She was a statue of bravery, whereas Forrest was... Forrest. The biggest coward on earth. And she mentioned half-bloods--he was a mudblood. He seemed to be the only one at school. The thought left him with a heavy heart. He still nodded not to offend her or discuss it any further as he successfully avoided eye-contact again.

Spells! YES! Forrest was, frankly, relieved to learn she got detention due to something else. He didn't want her to get in trouble again. Watching the rock she'd shown, he gasped dramatically when it was blasted and clapped his hands excitedly.

"How did you learn it?"

Mhm, shrugging. He didn't like the ice-cream talk. She could respect that but only because it was him. Were it some other unlucky Hufflepuff CoughCoughOAKEY, she would have drawn her wand. Dude was trying to get rid of the ice-cream machine. She wouldn't stand for that, HeadBoy or not.

Yay! He liked her too! Puffers were so nice except Lottie but that's why she was her best friend. She BEAMed over at him. "You're welcome. When I was a first year I had someone looking out for me too so I know how much good it can do. I also know how important it is. People used to practice spells on me without my permission because I didn't know a thing about spell work. I don't want the same thing happening to you." Goodness no. They would need to find someone else. She could offer a few people if they liked but not Forrest.

"And you know, if you keep up with that smart thinking you'll do just fine. Did either of you lose any points in that swamp thing?" Could you lose points for hugging?

That couldn't be a rule. There were too many Puffers for that to work.

And there she went saying things that upset him again. SIIIIIGH. Blood types were touchy, she got that. "Sorry." She mumbled, giving him a little nudge. "There's really no big deal. Mudblood isn't a real thing. Only idiots use it. Guess what that makes her." Or was she only making this worse. The last time something like this came up her father made her read, and read then read some more. By the time she was done she couldn't tell a halfblood from a muggleborn--that's right! "The correct term is Muggleborn but it takes someone with a brain to know that. Kinda makes you feel bad for her, doesn't it?" She giggled a bit, it was a little funnier now.

She was all smiles at his excitement. "Hehe, I bought myself a book of hexes, jinxes and curses. Found it in there and decided I had to learn it. I could show you the books some time if you'd like?" But actually, for now she could probably teach him something simple to hex people
s faces off protect himself.

Forrest nodded again, unsure how to respond to this revelation about her Hogwarts past--except he gasped upon learning she had been subject to experiments too. He shuddered--if they could bully Alexa, the bravest girl here, he didn't stand a chance. His forehead creased with worry. Maybe it was time he learnt some defensive spells... but he had difficulty even in easy spells, how could he perform a defensive one?

He nodded vehemently. "Slytherin lost ten, but I lost five too for 'manhandling' an offender instead of going directly to a professor." He made a face. He liked the Professor whose name he never caught, but really. Adults were silly sometimes. "I mean, who would want to wander around drenched in all mud and cause her to call me a sissy?" He looked gravely into Alexa's eyes, searching for consent. He wasn't going to tell her about his utmost fear--that he'd costed Hufflepuff the House Cup with those five points. He just had to find a way to earn more points. Hmm... should he ask that old man?

Could they move on from the blood types already? The stronger part of him still said SONEA was right about his inability--and his wandwork usually proved HER right, so please. He had to giggle though when Alexa called Sonea an idiot, but his face got serious quickly.

"I wouldn't ever feel sorry for her." He sounded too cruel, but she was cruel too. Such people intimidated him. He frowned, confused. He didn't like them.

Found a book? His eyes shone brightly as he nodded vigourously. "Please, Alexa, please, when you're done with it!" He made puppy-eyes at her as sweetly as an 11-year-old could muster. "Do you know any other spells?" It just never crossed his mind to ask her to teach, but he sure liked shows.

Bliiiiink. Now he just looked like he was worrying. She couldn't win no matter what she said. Maybe she'd just stop talking? Would that have helped? First she had him scratching, on the train then she got him upset earlier bringing up the ice-cream and the blood talk, now she didn't know what she did but it was obviously wrong.

So let her get this straight. He only lost five and the Snakes lost ten?? "HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" She tried to stop laughing because this wasn't meant to be funny, not with the serious looks he was giving her but MERLIN. "And you lost them for manhandling an offender with a hug? Dude, that's classic." She couldn't stop giggling. This was too good. "I lost points my first night here for giggling. It seems the reasons get more ridiculous with time. Hehehe. The important thing is that she lost more. Good job!" But she had to stop laughing. Really.

And there was that upset look again. Yuuuuuuuuup, blood talk ends here. That was the last of it. Nothing was making him feel better.

"I didn't mean that quite as literally as you took it. Haven't you ever pitied someone for their stupidity before?" She had. She did it all the time.

N'awwwwwwwwwww, look how adorable he was asking for a book on hexes. "I've read through it twice and I've got three others like it. If you want you can borrow it, see if you can pick up a spell or too then give it back at the end of term?" She would be at the Hufflepuff table for a portion of the feast anyway. "And I do! Ummm...let's see..." She watched a lone butterfly fluttering by. "Oh, I got one. Petrificus totalus!" The thing froze and fell into her waiting hands. "Body binding charm. Very useful."

Forrest frowned, trying his best to understand the reason to her laughing. His face split into a shy grin though as she explained her reasons. Yeah, when she put it like that... it was laugh-worthy.

"You did?" he said, feeling better because SHE had lost points for an incredible reason too. He would still have nightmares of losing the House Cup, but at least he knew he wasn't the only one to blame.

Ooooh. She meant like that. He offered her another grin. "I suppose so." He giggled, obviously enjoying calling Sonea an 'idiot'. That made him feel better. Maybe he should bring Alexa some ice-cream to show his gratitude. Hmm...

He could keep them till the end of the year? FANTASTIC! She was DEFINITELY being served ice-cream from his hands. It didn't occur to ask whether he should hide it from others. Alexa wouldn't read an illegal book. Nope.

"YES! I want to! Can we, now? I mean, after you're done here?" YES? He would take any gesture from her as a 'yes'. He watched eagerly as she waved her wand again--and his mouth formed a perfect O as his head imitated the fall of the butterfly into her hands.

"I wanna learn." Now.

"You are the most modest person I've run into, you know?" She said with a wide grin. He cost a Snake 10 points AND annoyed her enough to make her livid but all he did was smile all shy like. It was precious! A part of her wanted to pinch his cheek for being so adorable but she didn't want to scare him off so she kept her hands to herself.

"I did." She said with a nod and a grin that had become an amused smile. Looking back, that night had been epic. First night at Hogwarts and she was taking on Second Years. "It's nothing to worry about, especially since you're a Hufflepuff. Have you seen you're lead on the scoreboard? Five points has nothing on you."

Oh and there we go! He was getting the idea and found it just as funny as she had. "Exactly. My Mama Vivi told me that idiots are everywhere. I find learning to laugh at them helps." REALLY, it did.

Lex beamed proudly at his excitement about the books. He reminded her of her when she'd first seen them in the shop. And well, she already had a list of the ones she would try learning so lending him a book or two wouldn't have hurt. "Just promise me you'll be careful and won't hurt yourself. Start real simple and work your way up." Some good advice from a reckless Gryffindor. There was something you didn't see every day.

"But sure! Once we're done here you can walk with me to my Common Room.".........He wanted to learn? "Alright! Get your wand out. Once you have it I'll remove the charm and you can try on this little guy." Only after she was sure he wouldn't hurt himself or the butterfly.

Yeah, Forrest SQUIRMED good-uncomfortably. He blushed, looking everywhere but her eyes. He didn't know how to take compliments--that WAS a compliment, right? He offered her a smile though and shrugged. "I'm a Hufflepuff." The most modest house ever. He fitted in perfectly.

"Yeah but what if--" He halted abruptly and looked away. He didn't want to reveal his nightmares to her. She might be scared or something. He sighed and shrugged again.
