Default the Office of Professor Flamsteed

Perhaps the first thing you notice as you enter Professor Flamsteed's office is that it is...clean. Ridiculously clean. While he is not exactly obsessive compulsive about cleanliness, Professor Flamsteed highly values organization and keeps everything in a specific location. Needless to say, if one of his quills is at an odd angle ... he will notice. The wood cabinets above his desk are filled with all sorts of reference books on all branches astronomy on the left side while the right side is filled with works of muggle science fiction ranging from Douglas Adams to H.G. Wells to Robert Heinlein and everyone in between. His desk is mostly empty except for some black accents and a comfortable looking pink pillow.

On the walls are a few framed pieces of abstract line and paint splatter artwork that Professor Flamsteed has collected over the years along with a drawing given to him by a student in a black frame. There is a black sofa up against one of the walls with a pet house on the floor beside it where Pebbles sleeps when not on the pink pillow on the desk. To the right of the black sofa and is a wooden closet, SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the one from last term, where Professor Flamsteed keeps a few freshly pressed suits from his extensive collection, just in case, and to the left of this is a rather impressive looking tie display case. Located opposite of Professor Flamsteed's desk is yet another display case, but this one is filled with all sorts of muggle science fiction models that he has built and painted himself - a hobby of his when he is not busy teaching, grading, or researching. However, the number of these models present is about half the number there were last term.

OOC: please do not post here without having been invited in by Professor Flamsteed from the waiting area or else risk your post being unceremoniously deleted.

Forrest was tired of standing there with his bag on his shoulder, so he placed the bag on the floor and shifted his weight, hands inside his pockets again. This was his way of showing his reluctance to do something, as if his expression wasn't enough to show it, but he nodded when the professor was done. He would try it. But he didn't have a hope at all.

Yeah, ice-cream was all good in the beginning, but after the second week here, he almost vomited every time he'd heard the word. "Thank you," he said politely, but didn't make a move towards it. He was full with potatoes, thank you.

Back to the business. He took one last look on the lion-shaped gargoyle and closed his eyes, visualising it simply getting up. It would be a big success for him if he got even that so... yeah. Standing up. Visualised. Done. He opened his eyes a few seconds later and said "I've visualised."
He wasn't going to eat that? Pity. Airey hated seeing food go to waste. Maybe he should cast an anti-melting charm on it so it wouldn't me---

OH GOOD! The boy was focussing.

Losing track of the bowl of ice cream, Airey watched the Hufflepuff intently. He would ask what it was he had visualized, but Airey was hoping the boy would just be able to show him. "Good. Now, keep that image as vivid in your mind as possible. Really reeeeeeeeeeaaaally focus on it and then try casting the spell."

And don't be too disappointed if it didn't work?

To depressing a thought, so the astronomer would keep that to himself.

SPOILER!!: Flamsteed
Airey leaned back in his seat a bit to allow her to speak and he was trying his best to not let his ice cream distract him from the conversation at hand. It was sort of hard to do since this sort of social interaction was foreign and awkward to him. Why couldn't professors just profess? Or, um, not profess exactly...just teach. Education. Facts.

Although he had been told that this was also part of the whole education picture and was actually part of why he had been interested in returning to Hogwarts as a professor in the first place. He had been lucky enough to have had one to point him in the right direction, so if he could do even a fraction of that for students then he would consider himself a successful educator.

But he was obviously doing the opposite for Miss Wheatborn.

Waiting until she was finished speak, Airey took a long sip from his cup and then set it down next to his bowl. What to say? Where to begin? Why couldn't there be a formula for this sort of thing? "I have one question for you, Miss Wheatborn. This failure, as you call it, what do you want to do about it? My concern is not over just your grades, but whether or not you are content with this failure." He paused just for a moment to lean on his desk a bit and fold his fingers together. "As the great muggle bucketball player once said, I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying."

Which was his round about way of sending her a message and pointing her in a certain direction without saying it outright. Kids were supposed to come to these conclusions on their own, right?

Minerva waited.. and waited.. then shifted uncomfortably.. and waited a bit more in silence. Was he trying to figure out the best way to yell at her about how awful she was at this subject or what was going on. Feeling a bit awkward she put a spoonful of ice cream in her mouth. Then she tried to make eye contact with him, but shifted her eyes to the desk instead.

Finally he spoke and Minerva listened, now she wasn't going to look up. Failure hung in the air, she had failed at something. Opening her mouth and shutting it again she felt the shakiness of her voice before it even came out, "Well no I would never be content with a failure. This not something I've ever done before when it comes to class work. So I don't really know what to do about it." She sat silently thinking, she wanted to take the OWL again, was that even possible, probably not. Taking a deep breath and swallowing hard she finally looked up, "As for what I'm doing about it, I really can't just go back and erase it, so I guess I'm still attending class and trying to learn."

Then something made her tilt her head confused. "Sir not to be rude, but what is bucketball?" She listened some more when it hit her, "Oh do you mean basketball? I'm sorry.. I was raised muggle and I just have never heard of bucketball, unless that is something that isn't played in the States." She knew that wasn't the point of what he was trying to say, but it had just thrown her for a minute. Okay.. okay back to the actual thing he was saying. Was he saying it was alright to fail.. "Professor, are you saying it's alright to fail as long as you try, because.. I just don't know.. Failing shouldn't happen, should it?" Well not in her book at least.

Vivid? As in, as vivid as a stone gargoyle could be? Forrest wanted to laugh, but the gravity of failure for the millionth time kept him back. He set his jaw tight instead, and bent down on his bag to get his wand out. He hesitated only a moment before grabbing the magical stick and got up, not looking at it again.

His hands shaking. It wouldn't look too well now, would it? He tightened his grip on the wand and pointed it at the gargoyle. His face was stiff too, but even he couldn't tell whether it was out of concentration or mortification.

He paused to imagine it getting up again, and said "Piertotum locomotor."

...

... ...nothing.

Guess a vivid gargoyle was this.

"Here you go," he said while offering it to her. "Despite cut backs, I still have all the necessary supplies in the lab. I can supervise the initial steps and then you can take care of the rest on your own."

He then reached behind him for two bowls and scooped some ice cream in them from his hidden stash in his office. He said nothing else as he pushed the bowl towards the Slytherin and offered her a spoon.

"Bright witch like you should be able to handle it."

The star project. Not the ice cream.
Sonea took the parchment from the professor and smiled grateful at the teacher, “Thanks!” Sonea looked at the parchment and read quickly what was written on it before she opened her bag and put the parchment in it.

She just wanted to thank the professor again when he offered her a ice-cream! “Oh yummy!” Sonea glanced at the ice and thanked the professor again. I need to ask more for extra projects if I can eat ice-cream afterward thought Sonea in silence.

Well, that was a good sign at least. Or he thought it was a good sign. She wasn't wanting to give up which meant that there was still a chance for change and for her to stop beating herself up over this. She HAD heard him say that he had failed one of his OWLs, right? He had failed a few if he recalled and it had hardly been a setback for him.

Only her next words almost contradicted herself there with the word 'try' paired with learning. At least he wasn't entirely convinced nor did he think that she had fully convinced herself. Her face during his lesson told him that much.

"Oh, yes, basketball," he said, he himself getting temporarily distracted - even more so when she mentioned being raised muggle. But that would have to be for another day. And then he was laughing. Not in a mocking sort of way. Not at all. Nothing was really funny about the girl's situation, but what she said was rather funny. "Miss Weatborn, do you honestly believe that failing something that does not happen to great minds?" he said while composing himself a bit. "Some of the greatest minds in history failed over and over and over again. If Thomas Edison had feared failure the way that you do he would have never invented the lightbulb. Some say that he failed some 1000 times before he accomplished his goal. I'm not telling you that failing is alright. It obviously isn't since it hurts when we do so and we feel disappointment." Most people anyway. He felt nothing when he had failed some of his OWLs. "Now, I won't lie and say that I am not disappointed in this grade. I expected more from you, but failing despite your best effort? That is hardly something to frown at."

Airey leaned forward in his seat, settling practically on the edge of it as he watched the boy do the spell. Yes yes...good...focus...yes....

.................................................. .......

Still waiting for something to happen, Airey leaned forward and poked the gargoyle with his own wand and half expected it to jump in surprise. Only nothing happened. Hmmmm...

He could practically see the disappointing written all over the Hufflepuff's face and now Airey had to tell the boy that he hadn't been focusing hard enough or something along those lines. Feeding disappointment with more negatives never seemed like the best option.

"Well...." he said cautiously after a few moments. "Maybe it would help if we made these gargoyles smaller? I can shrink one of them for you." It was up to the boy after all. "Although, if I do say so myself, I think you are setting yourself up to not be able to do the spell. You seem to be...nervous. Overly unsure of yourself. I had a student come to me about their inability to perform the Aguamenti Charm properly. You see, they always were producing a super strong jet of water. Unable to control it. Too much intent could also cause magic to run amuck. But hey, at least you didn't blow anything up?"

Too early for humor?

Grinning as she accepted the parchment, Airey made a mental note to make sure that the young snake had proper access to the lab and then returned to sipping on his tea.

"Is there anything else I can do for you?"

Minerva had to give an honest smile to his basketball mistake. Even with all this upsetting failure talk she always found it interesting the wizards that were interested in the muggle world and the irritation to the ones that didn't, but back to the reason she was there. Sitting quietly as he laughed O_o, he was laughing at her. Minerva felt the humiliation. He thought her failing was funny, or the fact that she was dumb funny, she just wasn't sure. She quickly looked to the floor as tears pushed at her eyes. She tried to force them away, not wanting him to see that his laughing hurt.

Then he began talking, great minds failed. Minerva sat back in her chair and really thought about this. He was right, as much as she couldn't stand the thought of failing and it really literally made her ill, smarter people then her failed. Still fighting the emotion out of her voice, "I..I guess your right. I just have a hard time with it. I expect myself to be better then failing." She knew that some people thought her expectations of her self were to high, but she didn't think that. She felt that it was suppose to be that way. Then he said a word that did make her look up, disappointed, yes she was very disappointed in herself and not just with this grade. There were a few others that she got A's in that were not good enough.

Hold up.. What did professor just say, Minerva's entire look changed when she heard that sentence come out of his mouth. If there was one thing she tried very hard at it was to please her professors. She could not handle failing, but disappointing people was way worse then just failing. The tears that she tried to hide and fight away sudden streamed down her face. "I..I'm sorry professor. I.. I hate that I failed and failed you by failing. " She tried to wipe away the tears and force herself to calm down, but it was to late to hide it from Professor Flamsteed.

He was the professor, if he said making it smaller could work, Forrest would believe him. "Okay," he agreed as he shifted nervously on his feet. His knees hurt from standing for so long, but he wasn't going to whine or sit down unless he asked him to.

Back to the business at hand.

If it had been some other time, he would have laughed at the anecdote, but he was too down-hearted and unwilling to understand half of his words. He met his gaze instead after a while.

"I am determined," he argued in a nearly whining voice. "But it's hard. And she said we will prepare a parade or somethin' with them." Eyebrows met with an angle as if he was in great pain. He was pleading the man to save him from the lesson and parade.

Thankfully, Airey missed the Hufflepuff's look of hurt when he had laughed. He had not meant to hurt her and had honestly found her words amusing. So hopefully it had not left any lasting scars.

That is until she looked up and spoke. Oh, oops? Had he said something wrong? Pleasestopalmostcrying. "Of course you do," he said with a small smile as he returned to sipping on his tea. Ah yes, much better. Feeling his limbs relax just a bit, the professor eased into his seat and rolled his shoulders. "It is fine to set goals high for ourselves. Just you cannot allow yourself to get lost when things don't work out the way we may have hoped." The shift in pronouns was subliminal and for a brief moment hurt flashed across his face and his blue eyes.

WOAH WOAH WOAH! Rewind. Freeze. STOP. NO NO NO NONONOOOOO!

Airey was panicking on the inside as he saw something watery and somewhat terrifying trinkling down the girl's cheeks. Tears? Were those tears? Oh sweet solstice he hadn't signed up for this. What should he do?! He was too panicked to have found it amusing that she said fail so many times in the same sentence - which it was funny - and he began to fumble around with things on his desk in search for some tissues. Should he tell her that it was alright? That she shouldn't feel bad? He WAS disappointed that she had done so poorly because he saw her as a student with a lot of potential, but that didn't mean she should cry!

"You don't apologize to me, Miss Wheatborn. But you do need to forgive yourself so you can recover and move on."

So please stop crying, okay?

With a quick flick of his wand, Airey shrunk one of the gargoyles so that it was small enough to fit in the palm of one's hand. He didn't understand the science behind this sort of magic. If one could even call it science. It made logical sense in his brain at least. Less surface area for the spell to have to interact with must make it a little easier to handle, right? He was going to assume so. He wasn't the spell master. Scientific mind and all that.

"I don't doubt that," he said honestly. "But I think you are putting too much pressure on yourself. You're a first year and these are some of the first spells you have ever tried. You'll get there, it just may take time." He himself had struggled with his fair share of spells. Set fire to more than a few curtains because of it as well. "Now, take a little more time to visualize and try again. On the smaller of the two."

Forrest lowered his gaze uneasily and shoved his hands into his pockets with the wand. She was putting too much weight on him, not himself. He opened his mouth to say something, but then changed his mind. He didn't even gape at the shrinking magic, and that showed that he was really preoccupied.

Well.

He closed his eyes again, and tried imagining it once more. But before long, he opened his eyes back in greater distress.

"It didn't even--did something, though!" he half-exploded. His face must have told the whole story to the man: he was indeed utterly under pressure.

"I mean, the kid you told about, something happened! But now... Nothing." He was convinced that he could never do proper magic. His parents were both Muggles, after all. He surely couldn't ever reach others' level.

Holy comets.

Airey sort of just blinked at and stared at the first year Hufflepuff for a while at his outburst. He felt for the kid, he really did, but he needed to calm down or else things would never work in his favor. "Mr. Charlton, Forrest, I understand this is frustrating but getting upset is not going to help you. Remember how you struggled in my lesson with the Sucking Charm? These things take time and this bit of magic is very advanced." He glanced back at the gargoyle. "Let's keep things simple. We've made it smaller so let's try to focus on a small action. Maybe just make it move a paw or flex a wing. Something small."

His eyes narrowed and his expression softened a bit.

"Take your time visualizing. No need to rush."

See, his lesson had been a different story. He was motivated to learn then, but now... He almost fidn't want to learn. He was convinced that there would be spells he can never succeed, and this was one of them.

Professor's words helped little to change his mind, but they did help and he nodded silently again, afraid to insist further. Not that he was convinced too much, but it would be rude to argue. He closed his eyes instead, and imagined it moving his head up and down. That ought to be easier than getting up, yes? After a few seconds, he was eyeing the gargoyle again as he pointed his wand at it and said "Piertotum locomotor."

...

...it moved! It raised his head--just raising and not lowering, but it did move and--he yelled a "WEDIDIT!" with the biggest grin on his face. They made it! Together!

Airey was quite literally holding his breath now while trying to think just what it was he would do if the boy wasn't able to do the spell this time. What was it that muggles were saying about the third time being the charm? Or, well, this wasn't a charm they were working with but a spell....so maybe it didn't apply to this situation?

Or was that not the point?

Thankfully he did not need to think about what to do because the gargoyle's head moved!

"No no, YOU did that," he replied with a wink. And now the he knew that he could do it things should work out for him. "If you are not feeling too tired you can try to make it lower its head now. Or have it make a bigger gesture." Or, you know, actually eat that ice cream that was sitting there on the desk still.

Forrest grinned brightly, his mouth meeting his ears.

"You helped me lots,"
he said with an urge to hug him, but he contained himself. Hugging was a girl thing and he wanted to be tough already. "Thanks a lot." The job wasn't even half done yet, but he thought that once he performed a spell once, he could do it perfectly. "I think pressure works for me, 'cos that's how I did the spell in your class too." He laughed now that all the pressure was off. He wasn't tired at all! Who would tire out with making a gargoyle move his head? His knees hurt though so he sat down at last without asking for permission or anything. He didn't need to be standing with full concentration now that he'd got the hardest part. He was like a pro. HEHE. So, skipping the visualising thing (since he was a pro and all) he pointed his wand at the gargoyle again and spoke the words. The gargoyle didn't move at the first instant, making the little boy look so intently that his expression was funny. But, after two seconds or so, the gargoyle got up finally and turned to the professor.

"Did you see THAT?" It was MAGIC, and it was magical.

SPOILER!!: Flamsteed

She pulled her bag onto her lap and opened it, taking out a tissue wiped her eyes. She had to compose herself, this was not appropriate even if she was upset. This term was suppose to be better then last term, why did it seem to be starting just as it ended. Shesingle handedly disappointed two professors, herself, and if her parents were around she most likely would have disappointed them as well. Trying to focus again on his words, "But what if all you have known is one way, then when your hit with another way, lost is about the only thing that can happen?" She didn't know failure, it was a very odd thing, so she honestly did not know how to handle it or how to fix the it.

Don't apologize.. She looked at him oddly, "Sir, I.. I disappointed you, that I assure you is the last thing I want to do. I will try harder in your room and maybe if you could direct me in some books or extra practice that could help and if there is anything else I could ever help out with, please let me know." Eager to prove herself as well as get rid of the disappointment he had for her performance, Minerva was willing to do extra work.

Airey chuckled. "I merely pointed you towards the tools you already have here," he said while pointing to the boy's head. "...and here." This time pointing to his heart. Best part about all this had been that the Hufflepuff hadn't cried in his office. Tears of frustration were some of the worst and they made the astronomer feel ridiculously uncomfortable. Social anxiety was horrible.

He leaned back a bit, sipping on his tea while the boy tried the spell again, a grin appearing on his handsome features when the gargoyle's head moved once again. "Brilliant," he applauded before backing up a bit in his mind to what the boy had said about pressure. "Well, if it works for you then that is your system. Each witch or wizard has their own methodology when it comes to learning a spell. Given time I am sure you will sort that out." He was just a first year after all.

With another flick of his wand, Airey enlarged the gargoyle again and gave the young man a firm nod. "Want to give it a try with it as it's normal size? It will probably take a bit more concentration."

He had to admit that he was curious as to why Miss Wheatborn felt like she HAD to be perfect at everything. Surely it wasn't just to please herself, was it? It made him want to ask more questions - personal ones perhaps - but it was not his place as her educator to do so. Such questions and conversations should be saved for professors she felt more comfortable around or her Head of House. "You find a new path," he smirked thoughtfully. "Learn to adapt." Simple as that.

So...it had been that word, disappointment, that had caused the tears. "I was surprised with your results considering how well you performed in my lessons last term, but if you insist...." he said as he leaned back a bit to pull yet another folder out from his shelf and flipped through it. "You are always welcome to borrow any of my astronomy magazines I have there outside my office, but if you are looking for more dense reading besides your textbook....here is a list of books suitable for your age," he said as he handed over the piece of parchment which included one of his personal favorites, A Universe from Nothing. "As for a more practical approach, I am more than willing to set out some time during the week to do some stargazing or doing some simple activities."

Not to mention that the Observatory was always available for her use.

Forrest couldn't find the words to express his gratitude. The man had practically saved much more than his confidence. He took a mental note to ask his mother about ways of showing gratitude, because he owed a big one to him.

Anyways.

Although being successful was fun, he was utterly bored now, and he just wanted to run or something to spend his energy. So, offering the Professor a child's trusting smile, he got up, grabbing the gargoyles as well.

"I should head back to common room now, sir, I've got to do some studying." He got serious, because studying was a serious thing. "Thank you, again." He smiled vastly, put the gargoyles back in his bag and turned around with a wave to get out.

Minerva looked at him curiously, learn to adapt. She should just adapt to failing, that couldn't be what he meant. She just wasn't completely sure what he meant by that. "But what if you didn't want to change path?" She knew she had gotten an A on her charms OWLs and she knew she needed better for her path of becoming a healer, but she didn't want to just change her path, there had to be a way to stay on that path, right?

Taking another bite of her ice cream she listened to his advice and took the parchment looking it over, "Thank you professor, can I find these at the library?" She figured they would be at the library, but wanted to make sure. Oh he would do that for her, well that was nice, "Like I said I'm willing to do what I need to, so if you think that it would help and you have the time. I don't want to take extra time away from you." She hated being a bother, So she wanted to make complete sure.

She knew why she was there, but something was still in her mind from a quote he had done.. "So are you a basketball fan professor?"

Smiling, Airey stood up since he felt that he should at least walk the boy out. "Well, good work today, Mr. Charlton. Keep working on it," he said while giving the boy a pat on the back.

And did he realize that he had not touch his ice cream? Because he hadn't touched his ice cream.

Casting a quick spell over it to prevent it from freezing, he picked up the bowl and spoon and handed it to him. "Don't forget that. You can eat it back in your common room. Don't worry, it won't melt."

Leave it to a Hufflepuff to think in extremes. Either that or he just was not very good at thinking up ways of expressing his thoughts. Probably the latter. He was still new at this stuff. "I think you misunderstood what I meant," he said with a small smile. "I am not implying that you need to completely find a new path that leads to a new destination. You can keep your destination, but the road you thought you would take may not be the one you get to." He paused for a moment, pondering whether or not to put himself out there. It was still a very sensitive subject for him and not one that he enjoyed talking about.

So he was going to avoid it for a bit unless it become entirely necessary.

"You are still very young, Miss Wheatborn, so there is time to correct these minor setbacks. If an Astronomy NEWT is essential to you, I can work with you and, if you show progress, can make an exception and take you in as a NEWT student your seventh year." See? One less thing for her to worry about. "I am not sure if you know what it is you wish to pursue after Hogwarts, but know that there is never ONE way to achieve your goal. There are a plethora of options for young aspiring minds like yourself."

Did that make more sense?

He himself had never achieved his goal, however. There was no more path for him to take either.

"You should be able to," he nodded. Unless Leobald had to sell his copies of them. Airey had to sell some of his precious books to help pay for certain things. He felt the buyers had gotten away with a steal - especially with his signed copy of one of them. Had been horrible to part with it. "It is no bother at all. I do enjoy stargazing after all." Came with the job description.

Oh bucket-----basketball! "I am not sure I would consider myself a true fan of the sport, but I do enjoy watching it from time to time. I try to catch a muggle sports event every time I travel for business," he replied with a nod as he finished off his tea. "What about yourself?"

OOC: just keeping it IC canon here in regards to NEWTs and stuff *loves*

Oh, see, THIS was the proper way to treat her. Immediately ask her in for tea. So, of course, Airey got a bigger smile, YET she wasn't beaming. No. He'd said something that had upset her. Sort of.

But tea was always nice.

"How thoughtful of you, Professor. Thank you." REALLY, thank you. The girl took the cup and did help herself some tea, even if Airey was the one who should be serving her the tea and all, but it was alright.

She also took a seat, without changing the location of ANYTHING. She didn't touch anything at all. Unlike the first time she'd been here...speaking of..., "Your office seems smaller...," she started to say, noticing something strange, "...there are less things in it." Or...was he keeping everything hidden and extremely organized? With those slippers? Probably not.

"I guess it doesn't matter much since we're all DYING." THIS was the primary reason for her visit. No smiles on her face, nope.

Grinning as she entered, he quickly slipped back into his seat and blew on his tea a bit. The water was just a tad too hot for his somewhat sensitive pallet. Only one thing to fix that really hot feeling. Ice cream.

But before he could remove some from his stash, Miss Wistera was asking him questions. About his office. About his things. The man man!wibbled towards his mecha models. "Yes, some....adjustments needed to be made," he said with a small frown before he sipped some more on his tea.

But then in the next instant there was panic written all over his face. HUFFLEPUFF SAY WHAT?! His jaw dropped wide enough for a hippogriff to walk through and it took him a moment before he spoke. "Is there something I should know about?" Was there another man eating plant about the grounds?

Seriously. Each and every time she was in here - which wasn't too often, granted - she managed to make him 'wibble' somehow. Not on purpose, of course. How was she supposed to know that he'll be all sad about not getting ALL his things here, eh? Were they going to charge him depending on how many things he brought? He was a wizard, was he not? Disillusionment charm anyone?

"Oh. That's too bad." This whole entire situation was bad. Throughout Hogwarts, that is. But at least he brought all the equipment necessary to teach them, and that's what matters. He could find amusement in stargazing. That was free.

Was it?

ANDSHENOTICEDHISREACTION. We're so terribly sorry, but..., "Your own words, Professor, not mine." And she blew on her tea as she paused a bit, "In class. You said we're all dying." He really brought her down with that. That's why she answered 'Abyss'. Surely, OH, surely, he remembered.

SHE HAD NO IDEA HOW TERRIBLE IT WAS! Selling some of his favorite mecha models. Those were collector's items they were! But he had needed to to afford some other things that were more essential.

Which was REALLY hard to say about some of his Star Trek collectibles...

Man!wibbling aside, the girl had his full and undivided attention now. Oh, right that. He should have known that not all students were keen on his sense of humor - especially when it went on to be black humor. "Ah." Was all he said in response. It was a fact, however. But probably not what she wanted to hear. "And...I take it the comment was unsettling for you?"

She wasn't going to cry too, was she? He had already had a few of those in his office and he really did not want more. Please.

She was still a bit skeptical about leaving her feline outside. He was known for wandering and she didn't think she could be bothered to listen to some whiny First Year going on about the pet they'd never cuddle again. Ugh. No thanks. She bet the Professor wouldn't have stuck around to listen to the sob story with her either even though it would have been his fault. The man wasn't good with tears, she could understand that.

Lex gave a stern look to Felix before hurrying inside BECAUSE THE PROFESSOR HAD ICE-CREAM!!! She began looking around the moment she stepped inside. She'd never actually been in there before.

"Nice office Professor. Can we have ice-cream while we discuss this?" It was an innocent enough question. She was going to invite him to have ice-cream with her once they were done here but then she found out he had ice-cream heeeeeere.

"May I take a seat?"

As she spoke her mind went back to Felix. There was no way he would sit there waiting. SIIIGH. Wonder how much of the castle she'd have to scour to find him.

He had been a bit surprised that it had not taken more coaxing and deal making to get her to leave her monster outside his office. Still, he was not about to complain.

Nice? It used to be nicer when there were more of his mecha models and he had a bigger closet and....no the man was not going to get all wibbly over such trivial things. Although he DID still miss his Carolina blue silk tie. He ought to put up a notice again about it. Maybe someone had seen it over the summer.

"Thank you, Miss Cambridge," he said after coming out of his daze. "Of course. Would you like something to drink with it? Tea or hot chocolate?" Or whatever it was that the girl drank. If not, he hoped that she didn't mind that he had a cup of raspberry tea to go with his ice cream.

Two bowls out on his desk with proper metal spoons, Airey scooped up the ice cream and plopped it in the bowls before pushing one towards her. "Please, do have a seat." Because he was about to have his. "Now, what is it you wanted to discuss with me about the Tower Patch?"

Lex was still looking around the office. It was much cleaner than the Common Room and her dorm combined. He must have used like a zillion cleaning charms. That's the only way she saw it being possible. The most cleaning her dorm saw was the vacuum cleaning. Thanks for that Professor.

The only reason she was pulled from her absent-minded staring was the offer of hot CHOCOLATE. She grinned over at the man. "Yes please, but after the ice-cream because my Daddy says you shouldn't mix the two. I don't know why...you just shouldn't." And now she thought to question him about it. What would happen when you did???

A rather curious thought.

Her eyes fell on the bowls of ice-cream--what's that...? Actual spoons. The metal kind! Good merlin! She hadn't seen one of those since she left home!!! Professor Airey was living the good life.

Lex took the bowl when it was offered then plopped down in one of the empty seats. "Oh, right, the Tower Patch. I was trying to get some cleaning done in it earlier but then Felix and I got to the fountain and I realized just how much of a problem I would have getting the inside clean. Water keeps pouring into the fountain and I don't know how to make it stop or how to empty the fountain itself while I get the insides and the bottom cleaned. Now it's bugging me, taunting me really, saying I couldn't do it. I was wondering if you could suggest something or if you could empty the fountain so I can have it properly cleaned." That was a lot of talking. She turned her attention to the ice-cream and shoveled a few spoonsful into her mouth while she waited on his response.

"This is good ice-cream by the way." Just an after thought.
