| | |  The Maze By The Forest - Hufflepuffs
 Out in the grounds and closely by the forest lied a wall of canopy leaves with one opening for you to walk in to the slightly dark path. As soon as you step inside and walk a few steps, a wooden plank would face you with the following carvings:
OOC Instructions: - You need to post at least once in this thread in order to be allowed to play here.
- You need to be a Hufflepuff to post here.
- You can RP your character thinking about the puzzle with their housemates, then carving the rune they think is the answer to the puzzle using the Intaglio spell, like they learned in class.
- A new puzzle will be posted by me every 10-12 hrs, provided that the previous puzzle was answered to and someone RPed carving the answer on the wood block.
- You don't have to wait for me to tell you if it was the correct answer or not, the block will move aside as soon as you carve any rune.
- The puzzles contain keywords that would lead you to the correct answer, so stay vigilant. Use the textbook thread to help you.
- You need at least 5 posts in this thread to be considered for full credit for this activity.
- You're all working as a team, give the others a chance to participate. Teamwork counts.
- The activity will be over in 72 hrs.
- Any questions/concerns/complaints, you can reach me through PM/IM/Twitter.

...and yeah, she'd walked really fast but this was a competition, right? Right! Besides, she was really excited. Had she mentioned that already? Bounce!
Oh and a clue! BEAM. Nancy Drew feels over here, everybody! Ella furrowed her brow and read it carefully, tapping her chin all the while. The Death Card? "Anyone have any idea?" She knew it was part of the Major Arcana but that was about all. Did it have an assigned number?

Jory arrived just behind Ella. He was majorly excited and couldn't wait to get started. He arrived just in time to hear Ella asked if anyone had an idea. She meant an answer to the riddle.
The Puffer quickly read the riddle. Well. Jory wasn't sure about an answer. But one rune came to his head instantly. Probably form all that reading. "Dagaz,'' he said. "I think that's it.'' But anyone was free o contradict him.

Minerva headed to the maze and walked in with the group. Coming to the first puzzle she read it. This was going to be difficult. She hoped one of her puff friends knew runes better then she did.
Looking over at Ella when she spoke she wanted to say oh I was hoping you did, but she didn't. Just thinking about it. Well she didn't know runes well, but she did know divination.
"Well the death card is death riding on a horse. It shows all the signs of death, absence of light, immortality, souls, but I'm not sure how the goes with the rune. Does anyone else?" She hoped someone knew, because she just wasn't sure. Could they use their text book??

Having followed the others out into the maze... area... Alec couldn't help but just stare at the clue that was etched on the wooden plank. Because the first clue included a hint about the Death Card. Which was't a great card, even he knew that. And what if this hinted for things in the future? Like... what if... they had to fight things in the maze?

Tucker was actually a lost worse at this Ancient Runes thing that he had thought so he had been falling behind a bit with the rest of the class. So, when he finally caught up with the rest of his Huffies, they were already well underway with the puzzle.
"Ok, I'm here! I'm here!" he said, panting as he tried to catch his breath. "So uh...yeah. The puzzle. Right." he added, sitting up and reading it over a few times.
Ok. No clue what that meant...

Oh yes! The Death Card was number thirteen. What had he been thinking of saying Dagaz was the corresponding rune? He was totally sure it wasn't the thirteenth rune.
"Oops. I'm sorry guys,'' Jory said. "I don't know what I was thinking. I don't think Dagaz is the thirteenth rune. But I'm not sure sure which is the right one.'' He looked at Min. "We can't use our text.'' What a big use that would have been but then it would been less fun.

Quickly trotting away from the forest, the single silver unicorn scampered up the small slope with its ears folded back and its tail whipping back and forth behind it. He was clearly frightened by something... but what? There were humans around that didn't seem too disturbed. The unicorn was much happier out here than in there.

Laura was remembering suddenly why she didn't like Mazes, they were scary and now a unicorn was there apparently, she looked around and was trying not to panic, oh this wasn't good, she didn't want to get lost in one of these forever that would be bad very bad and she didn't like bad things like this why had she followed everyone out, this wasn't the best idea of hers.

At least that was taken care of.
Now was it correct, she hoped so, but all thoughts changed when something was coming towards them. "I didn't realize this was going to be a maze that had different things other then runes." Then when she realized it was a unicorn she knew something was not right. Looking at the few older students in the group she wondered, "Any of you able to do a good patronus, I think the professor needs to be told that this Unicorn has wondered in and that would be the fastest way." She still needed to practice that.. Something that was going to be on her to do list this term.

| Here with you all now too guys! OH LOOK A UNICORN! *flails* (and Min) Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Oakey stuck close to the back of the group. He was not about to get lost no sir! Not a chance, he watched and waited for Lottie to finish putting the rune into their plank to move forward when a Unicorn trotted by. Uhhh... yeah the Professor didn't say this maze was going to have creatures in them did he? He heard Minerva mention one of them use the Patronus charm and Oakey quickly interjected. "Botros said just to shoot a spark up if we need him. I can send a patronus for good measure after." He removed his wand and pointed it straight up letting of the red sparks above his head. Then followed it quickly with "Expecto Patronum" A silvery blue large Moose flowed out of his wand and strutted off in the same direction to tell the Professor that there is a Scared Unicorn in their maze. He kept his wand out and down, "The Unicorn looks scared, no one get close."
Brilliant, taking up the rear so he wouldn't get lost also put him between this Unhappy Unicorn and his Housemates.

Oh! Lots of badgers. Good thing too as they'd need to work together on this thing. Ella smiled as they started rattling off facts, ones which she wished she'd remembered herself. Some runemaster she was. The thirteenth rune, though? Ehwaz definitely sounded correct. "I think Lottie is right. We'll just try it out and see what happens?" And then Lottie was carving the rune and the blonde took a moment to stare at her boyfriend look around at the rest of the gro-

"Unicorn."
Ella stepped closer to Alec and grabbed his hand. Not because she was scared of the unicorn, but because she'd never seen one before. She was sort of in awe of it. Oh and Oakey!Patronus? "That's seriously cool, Oakey." Could he teach her how to do that? But back to the unicorn, "Yeah, let's not scare it."

Laura looked at the Unicorn, she felt like petting it but she decided to do what Oakey had said and just stood next to Minnie, still worried about what else was in the maze. "How do we know that the Professor doesn't already know that the Unicorn is in the maze?" Laura had just thought of something. "What if the Professor is testing us with this animal?" Laura didn't want them to fail by calling for the Professor if it was a test. "It's doing no harm to us, we should continue on and see if it follows." Laura said truthfully.

Yep, Eihwaz it was, now they could carve the rune, so he took out his wand to.. Hmm? Wade turned his head when the older guy, Jory, pointed out the Unicorn that was looking, Pretty... outside the maze where they were.
Wade then looked back in time to see that Lottie had already carved it for them. "Nice job, there." Keeping that momentum up. Anyways, now for that Unicorn, they already decided to let Botros deal with him while they progress..
Oh, what a cool Patronus Head boy Oakey made, Wade nodded in approval definitely wanted to work on his when he next got the chance. Turning back, he went with the others to turn right in the maze.. Oh lookie, another riddle.
"Health..power..wealth.." Wade had repeated what seemed to be the key words in there. Well, remembering what number spot the runes were probably wouldn't help.. Hmm.. His brows furrowed. "Sounds like something of good fortune.. what do you guys think?"

Oh. Another riddle.
Ella tore her eyes away from the unicorn reluctantly and headed over to where Wade and Jory were, eyes on the newest puzzle they'd need to solve. Good fortune? "Yeah. Fehu is the rune of luck, isn't it?" She said aloud, tapping her chin. "But...Sowilo...I think that has to do with positivity and success also. I'm almost certain it has to do with power and health. " She wasn't positive about the wealth bit, though. That sounded more like Fehu. "I'd say it's one of those two."
And she looked to Oakey because well, wasn't he a self-proclaimed expert at this sort of thing?

Wait a second. Oops. Distracted by the unicorn, no doubt. Funny how Lottie thought she'd been focusing all along.
ANYWAY.
Look at that! Oakey has a corporeal patronus and everything! How cool! She wanted one of those already...but yes, he was right, it was best to leave the creature alone, right? Since it seemed frightened and whatnot. Unless this was part of Botros' maze? Because she clearly got distracted THANKS to it. CLEARLY.
Still, the unicorn was pretty to look at.
And new puzzle? Well, she was sitting this one out until the unicorn went away. Lottie also wrinkled her nose at the flower reference. No fun, you know? Gentle as a flower. Pfffft. Yes, she was in a mood now.
Fehu, Sowilo, Uruz?
"While Fehu deals with wealth...I'm gonna have to go with Sowilo on this one, though, it's a more holistic approach to positivity and, therefore, getting rid of fear," TWO knuts. Go on, they should give two knuts, actually, for the Common Room.

Oakey followed behind the rest of the group after Lottie's ingraving into the plank moved it aside and they went forward. He kept a watchful eye on the Unicorn and looked around for Professor Botros. The Man was old so Oakey let him take his time, but if the Unicorn decided to freak out because...lets say Laura decided to do something reckless. Oakey would have no clue what to do.
So on top of keeping everyone at a safe distance from the creature Oakey was also overhearing the talk about what the next Rune would be. He glanced over and read it. Nodding in agreement with Jory's first guess. "No, stick with Fehu. Just about the whole riddle points to a lot of it's concepts. Wealth, Power, Sustenance." Oakey started. "Look where it says 'Devour our fears.' That makes me think of two things; Sustenance as I mentioned before and instilling courage in us. Fehu is normally refered to as the Rune of luck, but you can't be lucky if you aren't risky, and making risks takes a lot of courage." So...uh yeah. That's what he thought. He'd go ahead and carve it into the plank, but he figured his wand was best trained on the Unicorn should Laura scare the poor thing the Horse get startled.

Minerva was distracted by the unicorn it was so pretty. She wanted to get closer to it, but knew better at the same time. So she just stood and kept a good eye on it and an eye on the rest of her puffs. She might not be in a lead position, but she was one of the older ones, so she felt that she needed to protect her little badgers if the Unicorn would freak.
But then people were talking about another question.. Oh another riddle had appeared. Trying to focus on all things at once Minerva listened to all of them. "I think I have to agree on Lottie as well. Fehu and Sowilo are very close, but Sowilo seems to be a better fit."
She looked around the group, "Does anyone want to do the carving? I can do it if that's alright with everyone." It really wasn't that big of a deal if someone else wanted to though, she figured she'd give the group the option.
