Good cooking and light dusting aren't the only things Hogwarts' house elves used to do for free. You'll be missing them more than ever now that you have to do your own laundry! The laundry room is a stone little chamber just off the kitchen, with high ceilings and great big basins and tubs for washing clothes. There are scrub racks you can use to agitate your dirty robes, dryingracks hanging on the walls (they come off, don't be shy), and lines and lines of crisscrossing clothesline overhead. Obviously the house elves used to use their special magic to get things clean and dry, but you'll just have to make do with what's left.
Come on down to the laundry center on your House's assigned day, and don't forget to bring your dirty clothes with you. The school has generously provided plenty of wizarding detergent and fabric softener for you, as well use of the drying racks and lines to hang out your wet clothes. If you know a few spells to speed up the process, you may do so at your own risk and at your supervising professor's discretion.
Remember to sort your colors before you wash them! And don't make fun of each other's dirty undies, mmkay? We all wear them.
OOC: Here's info on how to wash clothes by hand. Also, remember to keep descriptions of what you're washing SS appropriate. Ya don't have to be TOO literal about washing your charrie's underthings. =P
Slytherins & Hufflepuffs will be washing July 10-13; Gryffindors & Ravenclaws will have use of this room July 14-17. Enjoy!

After Melanie and Alexa, the first badger turned up. Beaming at Laura Hyde he replied. "Good day Laura. My summer was lovely indeed thank you for asking. How was your summer dear?" Was the teenager finally maturing to a young woman? One could only hope. Leo was about to check on the supply of detergent and softer when he was stopped by a question from Laura. Looking around the room he asked "You mean like the scrub racks over there?" He pointed to the racks hanging on the nearby wall in a height easily accessible by any student regardless of height.
Laura looked at the Librarian. "I didn't have a good summer Sir." She seriously had the worst summer ever and it had made her realize that you couldn't misbehave all the time and so she was starting to grow up a bit and act her age.
*blush*
"Sorry Sir I must have missed that." Laura grabbed hold of one and continued to do her washing, making sure she did the white first and then once they were done she did the colours, she was finding it easy because she was used to doing the washing at hope.
"Sir I can help some first year students, or students that don't know what to do if you want me to." Laura smiled and looked at her washing, she was sure it was okay. "Sir instead of hanging them up to dry can I use the drying spell on them, I learned one in my second year." Laura remembered using it in the dorm once.
Kace was about to do his laundry. He had his hamper overfilled and he needed to do something about it. As Kace was going to the laundry room, he noticed fellow puffs and lions already beat him to it.
He smiled to all of them and then got his laundry soap and was ready to do it. Thankfully his mother taught him to do this chore back in the muggle world. He was responsible on certain days to do the families laundry. He learned quickly to not put skinny jeans or certain clothes in the dryer.
He sorted his darks in first and started to hand wash them all. He did not want to mix them all together..

Ronnie skipped down to the laundry center, holding a bunch of clothes under her arm. You'd think she'd be all grouchy for having to do her laundry since she hates doing it at home (even though she rarely does), but she actually felt strangely joyful today. Not even doing chores could bring her down.
With a bright smile on her face, she began sorting her clothes. She began to hum as she poured the detergent into the water. She then tied her hair up in a ponytail before she dumped her clothes into the water, giggling as some splashed onto her. No biggie, not like the clothes she was wearing were that special. They were just sweatpants and an old hoodie.
Next, she covered the clothes with some water. Now to let it soak for a bit. She looked around herself for any familiar faces. So it was the badgers and lions here... oh! Maybe Jory was here? She looked around and spotted him...

Time to do laundry! Jory hadn't much experience with that besides that one time when the washing machine suddenly stopped working at home and he had helped his mother as she was sick.
"Hey, guys! he called to everyone in the room as he entered. ''Hi Mr Firth, Mr Kitridge!'' His arms were filled with sheets, pillow cases, robes and pajamas. He didn't mind doing this by hand, anyway. He had an idea as to how it was supposed to be done.
Laundry on the floor in a neat pile, Jory grabbed a tub, added a bit of detergent and then added cool water. Grabbing the pile up again, he soaked them in the sudsy water after which he added more water to completely immerse them.
"Sooo, anybody need any help?'' He was sure everyone did not know how to do this.
Oooo! YAY! She waved at her bestie. "JORY! JORY!" she called, waving him over. "Over here!" she said.

Min walked down to the laundry room. She didn't have any clothes with her though. Her clothes just so happen to already be at the laundry room. Entering the room she saw a few puffs already there, oh and the librarian and grounds keeper, "Hello" She said to both of them and then made her way to Laura.
"Hey, I know you said you would do my laundry, but I figured I'd come down and do it myself." She looked around, she had done laundry before the muggle way, but wasn't there just spells to do this the easy way she wondered. Shrugging it off she began sorting her clothes. Looking up she noticed Ella and Alec, Oh goodness that was so cute, them doing Laundry together. She half wished they were doing laundry with the claws. Hmm she then wondered if she should have asked him if he needed her to do any of his, but then again Claws would have their turn soon.
Looking back to Ella and Alec she smiled, "Hey guys, having fun?" chuckling a bit, because she knew this was one chore she never enjoyed. Looking back at her clothes she then noticed what they were suppose to wash them in. Oh heck no she thought to herself, she knew muggle things didn't work at hogwarts, but wasn't there a charm you could use to get a washing machine to work. There was no way she was going to hand wash her clothes. She looked at Laura, [b] "There is no way I'm hand washing my clothes, I didn't even do that in the muggle world. I'm using my wand, want me to do yours as well?"['/b] She laid out her clothes and pointed her wand. "Tergeo clothes" There that was fast enough, right.
That's when she saw Kace, "Hey Kace, how are things going?" Frowning first years shouldn't have to worry about doing their own clothes either. "I'm finished doing my clothes with a spell, would you like me to just do yours so you don't have to hand wash them?"

Then she realized that it'd not help to complain. "So... Bee, just grin and bear it... ok." She told herself, then she noticed a boy who was washing his clothes as if it was the most natural thing of the whole world. She had already saw him in the classes and Huffies common room, she approached him and asked: "Um, may you help me?" She smiled. "I don't know what to do with this stains and I don't know how to use this tubs, I had never saw it before..."
"Oh, hello there,'' Jory said to the first year girl. He had seen her around but never actually spoke to her. "Sure, I can help.'' Grin. "I'm Jory, by the way.'' He looked at the stains she was indicating. "Well, don't worry about them. They should come out after you soak them.'' They would, right? He did these. "Now, just add your laundry in and make sure they're completely covered. Just wait for half an hour or so then you can start kneading them them.'' That was it pretty much. Plus it would get those stains out.
Just then Jory heard someone calling his name and he looked around. "Hiya, Ronnie!'' He waved to his friend. He went over to her. "Hallo. You don't look too down about doing laundry.'' He was kidding with her of course.

Then she mentioned a spell and Kace's ears perked up. "A spell? Oooh i am interested to learn and of course you can teach me. I do not wanna wash these again if i can help it. I already wash more clothes at home than i do here."

Oh and he was an eager badger ready to learn. That was a wonderful thing to see and she was going to jump on the learning part. "It's a super easy spell." That guy, Jory, was pretty attentive. It should work. It's a pity that he found a friend and left me alone, I didn't even say my name! Nor thank you! She thought. It's better to say thank you at least: "thank you" she raised her voice and waved at him with her hands covered by soap bubbles, grinning. Then she added, though she was not sure that he was listening to her: "I'm Annabeth!"
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
This was getting even stranger. People were filing in, filling the tubs and just dumping their clothes in them. Were the tubs acting like machines for today? Someone should have mentioned that to her instead of having her standing here like she didn't know what was going on.
Pffft.
Gotta love spell work.
HAIR BOY!!! He caught her attention as she looked for her own tub!machine. He was even waving and smiling, heh, when wasn't he? She BEAMED over at him and gave him a wave, Ella got one too as he made his way over to her. The next person she noticed was Forrest as he entered. He didn't look very happy about any of this. He got a wave and a smile but now she had to focus again because Melanie was saying stuff.

Melanie put down the shirt she was about to drop in the "whites" pile and looked at Alexa's clothes. "You're supposed to wash your clothes by hand," Melanie said, shrugging her shoulders. Which wasn't too difficult. "Don't worry, it's really easy," Melanie promised.
Lex mirrored Melanie's blank look with her own. "Washing...with my hands...?" Was that even possible? She'd never seen her father using his hands to wash anything in the dirty clothes hamper at home. A levitation spell to get them to the laundry room, his hands yes to get them into the machine but that was about it...
"I don't see how it could be easy..." And this meant she was wrong about the tubs being charmed to act like machines. Very strange stuff in deed. "Could you maybe, I dunno, demonstrate or something?"
She was a visual learner, of course she learned the most when she herself was doing the action but for now she'd be content to watch. "How did you learn to wash with just your hands?" If it was something she needed to learn then her father would have taught her ages ago.

"I wouldn"t advice using spells around your clothes. You might damage them. Do it the muggle way by hand it won’t damage your clothes." Leo advised. If everyone started shooting spells in the laundry room then somebody would soon end up being injured.
Then Mr. Kitridge confirmed what Melanie said. She'd have to be hand washing. Typically the smile would have left her face by now, her being not amused and all but yeah the smile was still there. Today was getting stranger and stranger.
The corner of her lips twitched and the smile was in danger of falling for good this time at the mention of no using spells. "Seriously?" Ah, yup, no worries, the smile was still there but still, "When you say damage, you mean like I could make the clothes and such and probably everyone else blow up on accident then have the Healer with a lot of work on her hands for the next few weeks...or more like making some of the colours ugly...I don't much mind the second one, I can just have Daddy buy me new stuff when I get home."
Really, it wasn't a problem.
"But okay. Hand washing. How do I do that?"

As another student entered the room, Alistaire heard his name being called. He spun around to see who was talking to him and noticed a Hufflepuff. What was his name..? J-something.. "Hullo there!" he settled for.

Mack had finally found the time to come do her laundry, she had brought her robes and her sheets off her bed along with some other items she needed washed. Scourgify just wasn't clean enough for her. She looked around in shock as she entered the laundry room, "Okay Mackenzie, it isn't as bad as it looks you can do this...." she mentally pepped herself up. Walking over to one of the tubs and put a bit of detergent into it before filling the tub with water and adding her clothes and sheets to it as the water was still pouring so not to soak her clothes. Once the tub was full she let the clothes sit, she smiled at the others in the room. Surely they all had the same thoughts going through their heads... How could this happen at Hogwarts of all places... but she guessed everyone was suffering so no point in whining about it.

Ali checked his watch... every five minutes. This was pretty much the most boring duty he'd been assigned since his hiring last summer. Ah well, at least no bubble fights had broken out under his and Leo's watch.
Finally the time arrived. He addressed those that were still there. "Alrigh' everyone. Gather yer clean clothin' up and head back ter the common rooms. I's almos' time fer curfew." And his eyes were starting to water from the profusion of smells and chemicals in the air.
He didn't wait for the last stragglers. Confident that Leo could shoo with the best of them, he turned and exited the laundry room, trying his hardest not to slip in a stray puddle along the way.

When Minnie mentioned muggle washing machines, Kace's ears perked up and he gawped at her. "I was thinking the same thing! I mean i miss putting laundry soap and dryer sheets in. It is so much easier back at home than here." he said gesturing to scrubbing his shirt.
When she asked to see the shirt, Kace held it up and you could see the chocolate stain on it. It seemed huge. Maybe he was getting it out wrong. Then when Minnie mentioned the spell, he was eager to see it done.
When she said "Tergeo Clothes" Kace stood there wide eyed. "Wooahh Minnie that is SO cool. Thanks for showing me. I will totally use it!" he said eagerly jumping on the balls of his feet. He even hugged her tightly.

Kace heard the person in charge of the laundry room saying it was time to go. Kace had fun here but he got his clothes that were all clean thanks to Minnie and went on his way to the common room.
He was glad he came. He learned something new that he will use forever. Wonder if Belle knew that spell? He will write to her soon as possible.

" By seeing him frowning, she added: "not that we are rich... she just dislikes the household chores... Sometimes I hid my dirty clothes and took them to my neighbour to do laundry. It was more safely. I had to wear something, you know?" She smiled. "By the way, I prefer if you can call me Bee. My mom used to call me Anna when she was angry with me... It isn't good memories."

He replied in a short tone "Miss, you need to remember that Hogwarts due to unforeseen circumstances have had to make major cutbacks just to keep the school functioning. At the current time we don’t have the financial means to even buy muggle washing machines as Headmistress Truebridge stated at the opening feast. That is why you will do all your washing by hand this year."
He thought about saying something else but decided against it since the girl made her way over to get assistance from Jory with the wash.

It was with relief that the librarian turned to Laura and plastered on a smile. Raising a brow he asked "Why was your summer not good?" Had something bad happened? The possibilities were endless so there was no point guessing. "Thank you for volunteering Laura. Keep an eye out and see if anyone needs a hand. I’m sure they’ll be glad for the help." If he had had to do laundry when he was 11 or 12 years old at school then Leo wouldn’t have minded some assistance and advice.
Hesitant he asked "What drying spell did you learn last year?" Using a spell to dry the clothes was good since the student’s needed to practice but in such a small place Leo just felt that it was a little risky.

Glancing over at Alexa again he nodded seriously. "Yes, accidentally blowing everyone up is always a risk but I think it’s quite small. I was more thinking of damaging your clothes in a way that you for example only get ugly colours or pink clothes."
Gesturing towards Melanie by Alexa’s side he said "I’m sure Melanie can teach you how to hand wash she seems to be quite skilled." And besides Leo didn’t want to get his hand’s wet if he could help it.

He didn't wait for the last stragglers. Confident that Leo could shoo with the best of them, he turned and exited the laundry room, trying his hardest not to slip in a stray puddle along the way. OOC: Snakes and Eagles, you're up! Your HoHs and/or House Mods should be around to assist you.
Quickly looking around at the kids washing their clothes while chattering loudly, Leo nodded in sympathy with Ali’s words. "I sincerely hope no bubble fights break out. They’d have to clean up the mess they created if it happened." A bubble fight at this time would turn into a detention where the task would be to clean up the mess they caused because there were no house elves around to clean up after the students.
Time passed by at a steady pace and Leo looked down at his watch almost at the same time as Ali. It was high time to leave. Listening to Ali declare that it was time to head back up to the common room’s Leo started to usher the student’s in that direction.
Standing behind to see the last of the stragglers leave with their clothes Leo dispersed of the water puddles on the floor before he exited the laundry room.

Mika scrambled down to the laundry center the minute it was open. She just practically ran to the room and snagged the first open bin she could find. She placed her laundry bag on the ground next to the bin before pointing her wand at the bin. “Aguamenti” the bin immediately filled with water. She grabbed the detergent and fabric softener from one of the stores of it and carefully poured some into the bin she had dedicated for her white clothing at the moment.
She quickly sorted through all her clothing and dumped all of the white things into the basin. She was just glad that there was the washing board there too. She let the clothing sit for a minute before she began to take different things from the mixture and scrape them along the board. Any bit of dirt or grime seemed to seep from the clothing and pour into the water.
“This is gross” she muttered as she began to clean the clothing.

His skin was no longer itchy thanks to the potion that Cece had given him, but sweet solstice was his skin still a bit flakey. It was probably a blessing in disguise that the only article of clothing that he could wear right now were his suitjamies since all the rest of them had that blasted itching powder in it.
Grumbling a bit about not be able to take them to the muggle dry cleaners, Airey set his hamper down and grabbed on the supplies he needed. Right....so he was supposed to fill one of these with water first, yeah? "Good day, Miss Johanson," he greeted before removing one of his ties from the hamper.
He would start with one of these. It was small. Not his favorite. Replaceable. UNLIKE his Carolina blue silk tie that was still missing. Nothing could replace his lucky tie.
Trying not to look too obvious, he peered at the Ravenclaw out of her peripheral vision to see how she was doing things. Oh...so it was THAT thing that they filled with water. Wand out, he pointed at it and cast a silent Aguamenti to fill it. Right....now he needed to use...what?
Yes. The man could practically build a rocket but he had never once done his own laundry.

Theo was here, hoping to get here before ANYONE else because he would probably have to use multiple machines. His mouth fell open the moment he walked through the door because he could see no machines. The Slytherin let out a whimper as he got closer to the contraptions in front of him. They had to... hand wash all of their clothes?
What.
Even.
But was there anything he could do about it? Nope. Theo just had to wash his clothes because they were starting to make him seriously uncomfortable, to the point where he didn't even want to leave the dorms anymore. He started with his underwear, because for sanity reasons. He also wanted to get the underwear out of the way before everyone else turned up. Before Dora turned up.
He pulled out some of his white pairs and tossed them quickly in the basin. Theo filled it up with plenty (too much) detergent and fabric softener, and then cringed as he dipped his hands in it.
His eyes immediately looked over at Mika and Professor Flamsteed who were here, too....
.................
No looking at his undies!

Amelia went to one of the stone basins and started to fill it with water, she saw that there was two boys in here with her she smiled and then put her robes into the now full basin.
Nigel hated doing laundry and wished technology worked at Hogwarts because he can at least use a washing machine. He might break it. But he can use it. Now hand washing was a whole other process.
Nigel knew you had to sort his clothes. So he took his colors and but them in a basin. He had no idea how much detergent to use. So he just put all of it in the basin and filled it with water.
He probably should have saved some for his whites. But he did want to see some bubbles. Oh, Wait. He forgot to add the softener. So while he was filling it with water he added the softener.
Once he had more than enough bubbles. He wanted to try this idea of bubble fight. So with Flamsteed's back to him. He used his wand to throw some bubbles at Theo. Seeing as he was the only other guy student here and having no idea what Theo was doing.
Nigel did not really want to do his laundry and was easily distracted.

Mika heard her name and turned to see Professor Flamsteed holding a tie in his hand. “Hello Professor Flamsteed,” she smiled over to him and waved. She was just lucky really her mother had taken her to do laundry with her when they were traveling the summer before. Yep, washing clothes in a dirty river was so awesome. So awesome.
She reached into the water and let out a little gurgling sound when she realized exactly how cold it was. Holy frozen hands! “Oh merlin” she gasped and looked up in time to see Theo walking into the room. “Hey Theo!” She called over happy to see a familiar face that was actually her age. She may have seen things, but she ignored them as a housemate walked through he door.
She was just glad that Nigel wasn’t throwing bubbles at her.
She had successfully cleaned all of the whites and they were all white again – white, but soapy. So she rung out the clothing, leaned it on the drying rack for a moment before she dumped the dirty water out of the basin and began to fill it with water once more. Dumping the clothing back in she continued the process all over again, the scraping, the wringing, and everything until the water no longer had soapy bubbles inside of it. Once this happened she walked over to the drying wrack and hung the clothing on it again.
As she let those dry she went back to the basin and filled wit with water once more. Dumping a bit more detergent and softener into the basin she glanced over her shoulder nervously. Reaching into her laundry bag the girl almost sketchily grabbed her least favorite things…delicates. She just flushed as she grabbed the first one to clean it.
Every few minutes she’d look over her shoulder, and then the other side.
Repeating and repeating this.
She didn’t want anyone to notice what she was cleaning. Nope, no one at all.
