Stepping into the arena, you are immediately enveloped with the light shining into the room, either morning or evening depending on what time you decide to enter. Perhaps the intricately designed windows and ceiling could detour your eyes away from the dusty and cob web infested areas of the more higher portions of the arena. To the very right of the room, there is the long platform in which supervised duels will take place while four benches on either side are placed at a safe distance for those who would like to sit and watch. Just ahead of the platform in the right corner, there is a door, though pay no attention to it. It's locked for a reason.
Towards the back wall, there are various types of practice dummies, both stationary and moving, depending on what difficulty the practicer wants. Don't be afraid to go all out with your spells, for these dummies are charmed to repair themselves. There is one practice dummy set aside that will shoot spells back to the practicer, however, permission from a Professor is required to use it. To the left side of the arena are two sets of stands, eight seats high, that look out to the entire arena, comfortable for those who would just like to watch what's going on all around or for general purposes such as studying or relaxing after a long day in the arena.
The middle of the room is quite empty, due to the fact that the defense Professor enjoys presenting lessons in here, but please, despite the brilliant light that shines through the arena due to the large windows, it is not some place to sunbathe or fall asleep. You will be levitated out with a good dose of cold water splashed on you if caught.
She had been sitting here waiting for Kace as she ran through spells to practice and all. And she must have been carried away not noticing him as he entered the arena. She only looked up when she heard his bag hit the floor. "Oh, hi," She greeted the kid. "No worries," She shook her head and pushed herself up. The snake grinned seeing the the excitement, she hoped he'd have fun. She never really tried teaching anyone. Not that she was going to,more like show him how spells are done and allowing him to try on her. "Good. Then we'll start right ahead," Since he was ready and all.
"We'll start by a simple one," she told him walked over so she faced a dummy. "It's the knockback hex, the incantation is Flippindo," She said it slowly so Kace would know how to say it. "And then you move your wand like that," She said demonstrating. "I'll do it on the dummy then you do try it on me," The fourth-year turned to the dummy pointed her wand then waved the wand in the correct movement, saying, "Flipendo!" With that, the dummy was knockedback and almost fell on the floor but it must have been stuck well.
Turning to Kace she said, "Okay, now you try it on me," She told him with an encouraging smile. She might as well practice her protego.
Kace was relieved Cassia didn't mind his lateness. She seemed preoccupied herself. She looked like she was researching something of somesorts. Maybe she was looking up spells. Then she wanted to get started and Kace was being attentive.
Oh so they were learning Flippindo? Hmm...he never heard that spell. That is why he was here! It was simple. So Cassia said...Well let's see how he likes it. She did it SO well. Probably better than he would do it. Now she wanted him to do it on her? GULP...Erghhh....he trusted him? *shrugs* might as well.
"Erghhh alright..." Kace said unsure. "For the record if you get an injury i am REALLY sorry." he hastened to add before he casted the spell. He practiced the wand movement first and it seemed simple. It was like a check and a squiggle. He could do it.
He raised his wand and did the movement and said "Flippindo!" and he wondered if it worked?

Cassia waved her hand, "No worries," She reassured him. She wasn't worried about it. Because Kace didn't seem like he knew the spell so it was good. The snake straightened and was about to hold up her wand and shout protego when she heard Kace already say the hex! She somehow thought he'd count to three or something? But why would he. This was dueling. Not practicing like she and Lex had done with the dummies. Blinking at the faint blue spark that shot out of the firstie's wand, Cassia lost balance and landed on her behind. Ouch. She wasn't sure which hurt, the landing or the fact that a first-year just knocked her back.
".......That was.." She started pushing to her feet, "Very impressive," She grinned at the kid. "You caught me by surprise!" No really, he did! But come to think of it, it probably was good because if she had cast the protego charm they wouldn't have found out if he had succeeded or not. So yeah, he was welcome. "Though, you need a little bit concentration so it'd more powerful," Luckily it wasn't that powerful this time, heh. "But for a first time this was great!" No kidding!
Smoothing down her hair which got all messy, Cassia was thinking what spell to use next. Then without warning, she jabbed her wand and said, "Expelliarmus!" She wasn't going to use any hurtful hexes on the kid. So she figured the disarming spell wasn't harmful. Besides he ought to learn it. It was very handy.
Did it work? Though.

Kace was VERY impressed his spell worked. Wait...it worked? SWEET! He smiled and jumped up and down. "Wow...i wasn't expecting that to work and seeing your reaction you thought the same thing." he joked with her after she fell. He did GREAT for his first try! Maybe...he was good at DADA. He just needed to concentrate harder. That could be done! He was gonna help her up but she got up on her own.
Then Kace was starring at Cassia and she had her wand out and he had a mental block. Wait..what was the blocking spell??? Ugh...he forgot and then as soon as she casted the spell, his wand FLEW out of his hands. He smiled and said, "Well i can safely say your wand worked." he said holding out his open palms. He was wandless now.
He grinned sheepishly and rubbed the back of his neck and said "I didn't know what the blocking spell was under pressure."

Good thing she got distracted and let him hex her. His confidence just got a boost, which was good. Though, he shouldn't be too confident, because then he'd be easily hexed and all.
And she felt a little bad because she took the kid by surprise but then again, that's dueling. She wouldn't be helping him if she counted before casting any spell. Pffft. Who counts before hexing you, no one does! Also, she didn't really hurt him so her conscience needed to shut up. "That's the thing about dueling, you need to improve your reflexes," Easily said than done. Even she hadn't perfected that. An example given just a bit ago. "It's Protego with and upward flick," She said demonstrating. She had also done it in the seminar. She was better in blocking than hexing. "And you should try the disarming spell, too," Because it was important to learn. Look at her, telling someone to hex her.
She paused thinking of a way to have him use protego without getting hurt if he didn't manage it, "Okay, only this time I'll tell you to get ready," She said bringing her wand up and pointing it. She paused then said, "Steleus!" Sneezing hex. It'd only make him sneeze for a bit if he didn't manage to block it. Nothing harmful.

"Well we can just count it off and start than. I guess in a duel they wouldn't be taking turns so maybe we shouldn't either." She wondered if anyone was watching this duel, because she could just hear a snake rolling their eyes saying how Puff they were being about this.
"So I guess a bow should be first." was that right. Man she needed to read up on the duel stuff more, but honestly she never saw herself as much of a dueler. She wasn't even sure the way to bow. Hmm alright then, she put her hands together like movies and bowed to Alec. Giggling a bit, she felt so dumb doing this for some reason. "Alright summers.. be ready..." She smirked at him trying to act touch and knowing she was far from it at the moment.
"Count together" She held up her wand and nodded to start. "3...2...1.. Rictusempra" She shot towards him. There was no way she was shooting anything bad towards him, but why not start out with something that would make him laugh if he didn't shield it. Could you do that one in a duel? Well it distracted the other person so why not.
Count it off and then start... yeah, that sounded better. And, like Minnie had sort of said, it was more like a duel this way. AND it meant that he could try and think up of a spell he could hit Minnie with. One that wouldn't hurt her because a) she was like a big sister to him, b) Treyen says to NEVER hurt girls... like... And they were about to start? Alec grinned and bowed back at her, trying to look as gentlemanly as possible. Be ready? "I hope you're ready to lose!" ... Him and trash talk was... probably not a good idea. "Three..." He knew spells, of course he did! "... Two..." What were spells again? "... One..." HE NEEDED A SPE--

She got him!! Minerva laughed as he laughed.. See it didn't hurt him and she was shocked she even hit him at all. She couldn't help but keep laughing as he was tickled. She liked that spell and she was good at it. Thoughts of Oakey on the ground laughing filled her head and she laughed more... Yep she was good at that one.
Hearing him say her name through laughter she had just caught the beginning of.. what was that.. oh "Protego" She said quickly.. Little man.. well okay no so little man thought he could pull a fast one on her and a dancing spell at that.. She could dance on her own thank you. She laughed and pointed her wand "Finite" Yes she was stopping the tickle.. It wasn't a real duel right.. so she was allowed to do that.. right? It just didn't seem fair for him to keep being tickled, it did get annoying when someone wouldn't stop tickling after awhile.
Anyway she waited just seconds after the tickle was gone she threw another spell at him, "Locomotor Mortis" . Let's see what he had for her this time..
Good thing she got distracted and let him hex her. His confidence just got a boost, which was good. Though, he shouldn't be too confident, because then he'd be easily hexed and all.

Kace knew he got caught off guard. But he knew in a real duel no one would be THAT nice to him to tell him they were using the spell. He had to get prepared. He was lucky Cassia was helping him. Then he remembered the blocking spell. It was a flick upward and it was Protego! He was right! She was right he should learn the disarming spell. He nodded at her words. "You are right Cassia. I will try to learn." he told her.
Then she was preparing to hex him again. He used all his concentration for the blocking spell...he said "PROTEGO!" with an upward flick and then he wondered if it worked? He didn't feel anything yet.....
He remembered the disarming spell was Expelliarmus, so he might use that on her next. But he would do it sneakily.

This spell... it was just making him laugh and laugh and not be able to do much else. His wand was even slipping from his fingers and he could feel the tears stinging his eyes from laughing too much. The only thing missing was, well, a snort. And there was no way he was going to--
SNORT!
O_O
Talk about embarrassing! And the worst thing was that Minnie had managed to protect herself from the dancing. She was too fast for him! Far too fast! ... But... at least she was nice enough to take off the laughing spell she had cast on him. He took a couple of deep breaths and tightened his grip on his wand. Okay... okay... he needed to hit her with a good--
MINNIE!
Wobble... wobble... How was he meant to duel properly with his legs stuck together?! Duel... spell... he needed to... Trying to be sneaky, Alec pretended to be examining his legs and mentally counted to three before pointing his wand at Minnie and shouting, "Impedimenta!"

Cassia waited a couple a couple of moments, but then Kace was still standing casually and wasn't sneezing. So his protego was well-cast. She gave him a smile to tell him that. Her wand still up, she wondered what spell to use next. She didn't like casting a knockback spell or anything alike so she pushed those ideas away and searched her mind for any less harmful ones. Though it wasn't easy, since all dueling was about bringing the opponent down, one way or another.
She remembered one and it made her smile, for reasons.
Without warning this time, she brought her flicked her wand saying the incantation, "Titillando!" The tickling hex. If he wasn't fast enough to block it, he'd feel invisible hands tickling him. That wasn't harmful, was it? It was fun. She also wondered if he was going to try a hex of the ones she used or not. She kept her guard up just in case and was already thinking of what hex to show him next.

Kace was relieved that her hex worked! YAY! He saw Cassia smiled and knew she was impressed. She was happy and so was he. He let out a sigh of relief and then knew she was in her stance to cast a spell. He was ready this time....
But she said a hex he wasn't familiar with. He tried with all his concentration for this shield to work. As soon as she casted it, he said "PROTEGO!" with an upward flick. There he felt nothing! At least his defensive worked.
Then without warning like she did for him he wanted to disarm her. He held out his hand and said "Expelliarmus!" and then he waited to see if his spell worked on Cassia.

Well, well, well! Here was a good learner. Cassia was impressed by the first year who had managed to block yet another hex of hers. Though it would have been nice if she saw him being tickled. hehehe. Anyway, maybe another time. Just as she was thinking of what to shoot at him next or what to show him, more like it, she saw her wand flying out of her hand. Ooops. Caught off guard again. She somehow forgot that he might try the disarming hex. Though, she was the one who urged him to. And he chose to surprise her. Good boy! "Element of surprise, huh." She said with a wink as she bent and picked up her wand. This really was interesting more that she estimated.
Now, next. What to show this hungry to learn kid.
Cassia turned to the dummy near her and pointed her wand at it she though of the stunning curse but thought better of it. No need to teach him a jinx that'd make the opponent unconscious. So she thought of another one. And more fun one. "There's a spell called the dancing feet." She told Kace pausing for a split second hiding her smile as she raised her wand and then, "Tarantallegra!" She said hoping that she had taken him by surprise as it might have seemed that she might be continuing explaining, when obviously she didn't. Thinking like a snake again, huh?

He nodded when she said he was the element of surprise. "Well i knew in a proper duel no one would tell me they were gonna put a hex on me." he shrugged using his common sense.
Ooooh there was a dancing feet spell? He never heard of that before. But then again..there would be a lot he wouldn't know. It sounded even hard to pronounce by the sound of it. Then she caught him off guard and he felt his feet dancing.
"Errghhh i can't stop my feet from dancing! i guess the hex, charm or whatever it is worked..." Kace said still dancing. It felt funny to his legs.

She wasn't that talented with shields, so reluctantly deciding against doing the dribbling activity for spell practice, Alice appeared at the Dueling Arena. Her partner wasn't here yet, right? It was helpful doing spellwork with people like Dylan who were so much smarter than her, all the more help she got. Especially things like defense spells. They definitely weren't one of her strengths, but she was working on it.
Like now, see?
Alice chose a stationary dummy at the back wall and waited for the Slytherin Captain to arrive.
He must have been spending loads of time on his hair today.

Dylan was not late. No, he was not...but he HAD been running the whole way here (NOT BECAUSE HE WAS LATE). That had totally been a thing. This term had been all about exercise, yea? Well, he was doing it. Lots of it. Always running, jogging, or just taking walks around the dangerous grounds these days. Definitely more than he had last term...or any other term...come to think of it.
Alice was waiting on him, though...and he quickly moved into the dueling arena to join her. "You ready to get started?" The challenge was simple enough. Dylan remembered all the shield charms he'd been taught...for reasons. He'd always protect himself when the need arose...without trying to exert violence. Impiriano would always been his favorite, though. It was just all-around awesome...and making him for like he was wearing armor..."Do you know the spell?"
If she didn't, he was about to demonstrate.
Taking a deep breath, the Slytherin centered and focused his magic. Because he was charming something else, it was more difficult to achieve...At least it was for him, anyway...Might not have been for everyone.
BREATH.
"Contego dummy!" He quickly maneuvered his wand in a distinct upward zig-zag motion, sending his magic out towards the non-moving dueling dummy. It was hard to tell if the spell had worked...but for that, he turned to his Gryffindor companion. "You ready to test it? And then you can have a go..."

...WOAH. Worse than Mo, Aidan was thrown off balance when the antlers appeared. He wobbled from toe to heel, and his head jiggled a lot, causing him to reach up to try and grab the antlers to steady them. Only he had no sense of self with them and hit them with his hand on its way up. Which hurt his hand. Antlers were hard. But also, it hurt his HEAD where the antlers were attached. That bit was sensitive.
After he got his grip on his new bodily addition, he tried standing up straight and then took a shaky step that was really hardly a step at all. This was WEIRD. "Dora, you gotta try this," he grinned.
But did she trust him to cast on her? He was much less pretty than her, after all.
Dora watched Aidan intently, cause she wanted to see how getting horns would effect someone who was shorter than Mo. She almost expected him to fall over, but he didn't... which was kind of disappointing. Maybe if he got bigger horns? Or was moving. That would make him fall over. The ravenclaw obviously had a fixed expression that was working out how to best use this spell to her advantage in the future.
".... Can you cast with those on your head?" She asked skeptically. It wasn't that she didn't trust Aidan, just that she didn't want to get sent to the healers cause he miscast the horns. It would really put a damper on the day.

Talk about embarrassing! And the worst thing was that Minnie had managed to protect herself from the dancing. She was too fast for him! Far too fast! ...
"Ready." She'd been ready for ages while he'd probably been fixing those pretty locks, didn't he know? "And your hair looks nice." Alice was even acknowledging how good his efforts made him look. That was true friendship, that was.
The spell.. what spell? The shield? Vaguely recalling reading it before coming to the arena, she stepped back and watched him demonstrate anyway. 'Contego' and then the shielded object in question, right. Alice had obviously known that. Obviously.
"I'm just casting the Knockback Jinx for testing, right?" Without waited for an answer, she pointed her wand at the stationary dummy and its supposed shield. "Flipendo!" As she said the incantation, Alice moved her wand in the respective moment for the spell, the check mark like shape with a flourish at the end. Dylan's shield must have worked, because as she cast the jinx, it rebounded back off it and sent her flying.
Ouch. After sitting up from a rather painful collision with the ground, she rubbed her head and gave him a thumbs up. "Your shield worked." Clearly. "Just do that four more times, okay?" So she could get all of her crashes out of the way before she did her five shields. Then it was Alice's turn to blast him backwards.

Dylan's eyes went wide as Alice soared through the air...like a Biting!Star. Really, she could've just ducked out of the way or something...She didn't have to withstand the force of the spell. What a crazy, brave thing to do. Forever a Gryffindor. "You could just dodge them..."...if she wanted. Maybe she liked getting knocked off her feet. Dylan didn't know her life. "Finite."
"Alright. Get ready."...or something. The dummy couldn't very well get ready...as he wasn't alive. Meh. DUELING ARENA, GET READY. There.
Dylan took several moments, re-centering himself and his focus. He was staring at the dueling dummy that had just popped back up like a daisy. These little buggers didn't say down for long. He'd heard they reassembled himself, too. Merlin, he itched to test that out...
Breeeeeeeeeeeathing. Preparing himself...GETTING IN THE ZONE...
Breath."Contego Dummy"WHOOSH. The magic flew from his wand, seeking out its target at once. If it left a trail of light, the Slytherin didn't see it. But that didn't really mean anything...Maybe he was blind..."How about try ducking this time, though...so I don't make an Alice-pancake or something."
There were so many people that would be after him...if he hurt Alice...
Selina....West.....Penelope......The important people, anyway...

Well, yeah, she could dodge them, but where was the fun in that?
"I can take a Knockback Jinx," she informed him seriously. Was he implying that she was too fragile for it? Because she wasn't, really. Gryffindors did that kind of stuff, and Dylan's best friend was one. Hadn't he grown used to them by now?
Apparently not.
Ducking. Yeah, right. "I'm good. Getting knocked back doesn't really hurt all that much. And I'm not resembling a pancake in the slightest, see?" She pointed her wand again and traced the check mark with squiggle again. "Flipendo!" The jinx rebounded again, and Alice went soaring once more, landing painfully on her elbow. This could not be good before Quidditch, how was she supposed to throw with that arm?
Maybe ducking was a good idea.
".. I'll dodge it this time." Ow, elbow. Owww.

The snake couldn't help not grin broadly as Kace jumped up and down happily. She knew she would do the same if her first attempt worked in something she just learned. And she'd also squeak, that probably was something for girls. "That's true." She nodded agreeing with his logic. "Though don't celebrate yourself in a duel too much or you'll give time for the other to take advantage with you," She winked.
Why else did she get to hex him, hmmm?
Cassia giggled as her hex caught Kace by surprised seeing his feet dancing. "See, never let your guard down, "She said pointing her wand at him then uttering, "Finite." And his feet stopped dancing. See, she was good. Because this duel wouldn't be fair considering the age gap.
Now what to show him next. Hmmm...Cassia crossed her arms across her chest thinking. OH! She remembered one. One that they had learnt it last year. Though, Kace wasn't here last year. "There's one cool hex that makes the feet stick to the floor," Well, cool to the one who cast it not the one who gets his feet. "Look how it's done," She said bringing her wand up then drew an uncompleted triangle speaking the incantation. "Colloshoo!" Now his feet must have stuck to the floor. "To get rid of it, point your wand at your feet and say 'skurge'." She told him.
"You can try it on me," the sticking one.

His legs being locked together was going to cause quite a few problems, wasn't it? ... Maybe. He wiggled a little on the spot, trying to steady himself. Yeah... he was going to have to be very careful and hope that the older girl wouldn't hit him with another spell that could knock him over backwards.
And speaking of being knocked over backwards, WAS MINNIE OKAY? BLINK. No no no no no! "Minnie?" The sixteen year old tried to wobble forwards, one foot at a time, to help the older Hufflepuff but he only managed to shuffle forwards a couple of inches. Uh oh. But MINNIE! AAAAAAARGH! SHE WAS THROWING ANOTHER SPELL AT HIM! "Protego!" Had she just... tried to throw the full body bind curse on him? ... "Steleus!"

*Whew* He was glad she knew the counter curse for the dancing legs. Once she did it, the hex stopped and his legs felt tingly. They felt weird but it was nice not having them dance. "Thanks for that." he smiled to her.
He took her advice to heart. He cleared his throat and got serious. "You are right Cassia. I will try to be more serious..." even as he said that he broke out of his seriousness and chuckled. But he knew in a real duel he would need to be more alert and on his toes. He was doing well so far for his first time at dueling.
Then she was gonna teach him a new hex?? A one that sticks your feet to the floor?!!? That is sooo cool! He was keen on learning this one. He was listening very intently. Even the way she pronounced was kind of funny. Then she caught him off guard again. He didn't know she was doing the hex. Afterwards he felt his feet stick to the ground. Erghhh...he couldn't move. He moved his feet and nothing happened. "Good work on the hex." he said impressed.
Oh so the counter-curse was Skurge? He could do that. He wanted to move and then he said "Skurge!" and then he could move his feet again. He was gonna try it on her now.
Okay....he needed more concentration on this spell. He even tried to pronounce it. It was "Colloshoo?" he said questioning it. Yup it sounded right. He pointed his wand and did the wand movement incomplete triangle and said "Colloshoo!" and he hoped it worked.

Wasn't this boy cute and cool? Yes he was! It was no secret that Cassia preferred younger people to older ones. She'd always thought that the older..had issues. Except very few, like Kat for instance. And she mostly got along and hung around with people her age or younger. So yes, she was considering the firstie over her one of her friends. People could say whatever they wanted. She laughed as he tried to pull a serious face then failed. The atmosphere was too friendly to be a duel.
The blond grinned seeing him glued to the floor. She had practiced this hex enough times to be able to do it correctly without a problem. She waited to see if he'd be able to preform the counter-curse or if he needed help with that. He seemed fine and did it himself. She was impressed.
Opening her mouth to say yes to his question, Cassia saw the spark shot out of his one as he preformed it on her. Did she say she was impressed? "Wow, you nailed it," She held up her hand in a thumb-up. She had the wand in her other hand so yeah. Just for good measure, the snake tried yanking her feet off the floor but they were completely stuck she couldn't left them. Then she pointed her wand at her feet and muttered, "Skurge," Now she could move them.
She took a step to the right as a proof then looked up at Kace with a smile. Miss-leading him, psshhht. "Torparticus," she said pointing her wand at his fingers. "This my friend, is the advanced version of the Jelly fingers curse," She grinned at him. He probably felt his fingers numb and well....jelly-ish?
He could also make it do with finite, she waited to see if he'd figure it out. Or maybe cast it on her with his other hand and she'd finite both of their hands? That could work, too.

Well she was trying to focus after that hit.. Oh did this go from laughing and not sure if it could be done to feeling like a real duel. She had the small headache to prove it, but she was going to focus and move on. Watching to see if her spell would hit him she couldn't help but laugh with his legs together. Was he waddling like an adorable penguin. She couldn't help but giggle.
Oh wait dueling.. yes.. she watched as he shielded himself.. She shouldn't have been as proud as she was. But she was super big sister proud hat he protected himself. She even clapped for him and shouldn't have because the next thing she knew she was sneezing.. and sneezing.. and sneezing. Really... how did she let her focus go like that.. Oh yeah.. Waddling Alec.. hehe.. Still funny even if she was sneezing and as long as she didn't do what she did at DADA with that horrible sneezing powder she could handle the sneezed.
Now she had to think.. think and sneeze. What was something she could send at him.. Something fun.. Waving her wand she sent the Bat Bogey Hex towards him. She laughed already picturing it if Mr. Waddles summers didn't shield it.

He nailed the leg sticking charm. That was AWESOME! He was happy and proud with himself. See he could do it. Even Cassia saw it for proof. If he needed it...
Uh oh...she seemed ready to cast another spell. He was caught off guard yet again and then he felt his fingers go REALLY numb. Almost like they fell asleep. He couldn't even feel them. Then he had to remember the counter jinx for this. He remembered Cassia doing it and he think it was Finite? Yup that was it! "Finite!" he said trying to lift his fingers over his wand and then his fingers were fine.
Then he grinned, he remembered ONE spell his cousins used. He was gonna be sneaky. "Petrificus Totalus!" he said with his wand and then he wondered if it worked?
