Stepping into the arena, you are immediately enveloped with the light shining into the room, either morning or evening depending on what time you decide to enter. Perhaps the intricately designed windows and ceiling could detour your eyes away from the dusty and cob web infested areas of the more higher portions of the arena. To the very right of the room, there is the long platform in which supervised duels will take place while four benches on either side are placed at a safe distance for those who would like to sit and watch. Just ahead of the platform in the right corner, there is a door, though pay no attention to it. It's locked for a reason.
Towards the back wall, there are various types of practice dummies, both stationary and moving, depending on what difficulty the practicer wants. Don't be afraid to go all out with your spells, for these dummies are charmed to repair themselves. There is one practice dummy set aside that will shoot spells back to the practicer, however, permission from a Professor is required to use it. To the left side of the arena are two sets of stands, eight seats high, that look out to the entire arena, comfortable for those who would just like to watch what's going on all around or for general purposes such as studying or relaxing after a long day in the arena.
The middle of the room is quite empty, due to the fact that the defense Professor enjoys presenting lessons in here, but please, despite the brilliant light that shines through the arena due to the large windows, it is not some place to sunbathe or fall asleep. You will be levitated out with a good dose of cold water splashed on you if caught.

It had obviously not occurred to her until just now to try a different strategy on the dummy rather than blindly shooting at it and hoping it worked. Maybe she could think about it.. like.. Quidditch? Dummy was a Keeper, but instead of trying to get the Quaffle past him, she was trying to HIT HIM IN THE HEAD WITH IT. Knock him out. YEAH. Good Quidditch tactic, right?
Alice shot the spell one more time, and this time- lo behold- it hit. Brilliant.
Heh. Dummy's head was a pumpkin now.
It was so amusing.. know what? She was just going to leave him like that. Friendly surprise for Romanos when she came in there.
TAKE THAT, dummy.
She gathered up her things and left, ready for more Gandr smoothing.

There was nothing like a good duel to make her feel looooads better. Lex hurried into the arena not wanting to waste too much time. The last duel she had didn't go well but she was sure this one would be fine in fact she had full confidence in her dueling partner...sort of. Eh, nothing a hex or three couldn't fix.
She plopped down on one of the benches and waited to be joined so they could get this thing started. Her wand was itching to cast on someone and so was she.
Even Felix sitting there seemed to be growing somewhat impatient--and they'd only just gotten there. Heh, clearly they were a perfect match.
It was a bit odd though if she was being honest because he was usually a bit more patient than her. Maybe it was his nap time? She had yanked him off her pillow to take him with her...and there might have been hissing but he must have known by now that she didn't listen to that.

Laura looked around and saw Alexa. "Hey Alexa fancy a duel?" Laura smiled now this time she would have a wand and it would be an epic duel, hopefully Hogwarts would still be standing by the time this duel had finished because Laura was sure that her and Alexa was going to make sure that this duel was amazing.
"I think this will be awesome, if you decide to duel me that is." Laura smiled. she was sure that Alexa was a bit scared of her but she didn't care and she hoped that Alexa would work with her because she needed to work on her charms.

Alexa looked over at the source of noise that broke her concentrated waiting. Laura. Mm. She never expected to run into her here, especially not after she saw what happened to the girl the last time. Still, the girl never knew when to quit so maybe this wasn't all that surprizing afterall.
"A duel?" She'd actually been waiting on someone else but the girl hadn't gotten here yet so she shrugged. "I don't see why not."
This would be far fairer than that incident in the Entrance Hall back in her first year. This time, she had a legit reason to hex her and this time she knew more spells. Not to worry Laura, she wouldn't be breaking your wand today. Nope. Not when there was better magic. Lex hopped up from her seat and gave Felix a quick scratch behind his ear. "Of course it'll be awesome, all duels are."
She lazily pulled her wand from its holster then fixed her gaze on the girl. "You making up the rules or am I?"

"I think we should just duel and make up the rules as we go along." Laura thought that would be better than having any rules that would have meant them having to stop and start and stop and start over and over again.

Lex raised an eyebrow at her, not in the least bit convinced. No rules? "That's not a duel, that's an all out brawl. We need rules. Without them, what's to stop me from blowing you up except a REALLY good shield charm." Not just any shield charm would do. Her exploding spells were brilliant, not very easily deflected you see and Laura was only so fat, her body wouldn't stand the blow.
Lex shook her head. Azkaban wasn't on her list of vacation spots. "Here's what we'll do. The duel ends when one of us is unarmed or surrenders." Whichever came first. She really didn't care.
"We'll walk about 12 paces before facing each other. I don't think we'll put a ban on any of the spells, just shoot with discretion." Because Lex was still only a Third Year, boo.
"If you have nothing else to add then I think we can get started."
She bowed quickly then turned on her heel and began counting off 12 paces. Hopefully Laura was ready, because when she turned again she would be firing.

Laura started to count to 12, she was hoping Alexa wouldn't mind losing because that is what was about to happen, because Laura was really, really, really going to be awesome, she wasn't going to go easy on Alexa.

Lex continued counting her 12 paces, completely ignoring any and everything the girl had to say. Going bald wasn't an issue. They'd learned a spell to grow hair just last year, it wouldn't have been that big a deal...besides...she didn't really care much for her hair. It was just there.
Okay, 12.
With another sharp turn she was facing the girl and wouldn't wait even a second. The 12 paces were enough waiting if you asked her. Perhaps she would start with something simple to get Laura properly warmed up. When the girl lost, she didn't want her crying about being unprepared.
Hmm...
Something simple. That wouldn't be as fun but whatever. "Flipendo!" That would do for now...'least until she was sure Laura knew more than simply how to hold a wand.

Laura easily blocked the spell and decided to do a fake yawn. "That was so easy, maybe this wasn't such a good idea, we wouldn't want to see you getting hurt." Laura said facing Alexa, "I don't want to have to explain things to anyone." Laura was seriously reconsidering all this, maybe fighting a third year wasn't so good.
"Locomotor Wibbly!" Laura whispered as she pointed her wand at Alexa, hopefully this would show Alexa how to cast a spell because at the minute she was a bit useless wasn't she.

Alexa's face went red all over with indignation. It was one thing for a simple jinx to fail but a completely different thing for Laura to mock her about it. She didn't understand. That spell had been cast nearly a hundred times and now it wasn't working. Uh-huh...she wasn't gonna question it.
Her hand lifted quickly. "Protego!" One of the only shield charms she could actually count on.
Anything too complicated and she might as well not cast in the first place. Lex had half a mind to silence her but that would have prematurely ended the duel--granted it would have been doing the world a favour but nah, she wanted something to do while she waited so she'd pass on that for now. "Hush up Laura." See that? She was being the bigger person. She wouldn't say anymore on that. Instead...
"Levicorpus!!"

"Protego!" Laura shouted as she saw Alexa mouth move, so she knew that the girl was doing a spell, she was shocked with which spell Alexa was trying to do to her though, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to duel in a skirt against Alexa.
"Furnunculus!" Laura whispered, she was going to try and see if she could do the spell without Alexa hearing her or seeing her mouth move, because that way hopefully she wouldn't realise she was doing a spell until to late.

Okay this was just ridiculous. The girl was blocking everything. Alexa scowled. This wasn't an epic duel, it was just plain annoying. If anything it told her that she needed to learn STRONGER hexes. Not the silly kind that they learned her, no, she wanted to learn stuff like that white lightening curse. Something like that would be useful right now. As it were, she didn't know it so she scowled.
Laura was muttering. Was she allowed to do that? This wasn't a silent duel, that wasn't fair.
Lex watched the hand movement, it was what gave away the fact that they girl was actually about to cast. The wand movement was familiar. She'd taken the time to know them all for obvious reasons and promptly ducked out of the way. Clearly there was no way she'd block that so fast but if she was right and that spell was what she thought it was then she wasn't very interested in getting hit.
While on the floor she raised her wand. "Petrificus Digitirus!" See how well she holds her wand now.

Almost the end of the year and she was entering the dueling arena. No, she wasn't mistaken or lost. She was here to wait for Lex as the two decided to duel deciding it was the best way to see how both of them developed through the year and like to finish the tree house argument? No one said that aloud but it felt so. Since it ended in Lex fleeing. The duel might also boost their confidence and spirit after the uneasy month that had passed.
Cassia walked over to one of the dummies, retrieved her wand and stood ready for the duel to start any minute. Except that the person whom she was dueling wasn't here yet. Unless the dummy hexes. Hehehe. Funny. Dummies can't duel, she thought eyeing the dummy as if expecting it to speak or take a step towards her.
Those dementors had missed with her mind big time.
Thank you, Hogwarts.

There was no time to waste, she was late!!! Late late late and it was ALL Felix's fault. She wanted him to come with her but the bloody thing was being so difficult and she ended up having to leave him in her dorm anyway. If she'd known that would have happened she wouldn't have bothered in the first place. Didn't matter though because she was here NOOOOOW and almost out of breath.
"I'm not that late right??"
Of course not, pffft, Cassia probably didn't mind the wait. She would tell herself this to make herself feel better. "So! Dueling! Ready?"
Because they weren't about to stand around for the entire day just staring at each other. As...erm...fun as that sounded she'd much rather get in some spell work. Besides, it was nearly end of term. She had to use all the magic she could while she still could.

It was eerie. Standing and staring at the dummy while it stared back. Maybe she shouldn't have entered before Lex showed up. Dueling arena, alone, after everything that's been happening. How Gryffindor-ish of her, she'd been spending too much time with Lex. Speaking of which. Wheeeeeere was she? HMMM...
Was she.....? Naaah. Everything was good now, right? *GULP*
Her grip tightened around the wand as she kept glancing around. Finally the lioness showed up and Cassia sighed audibly TOO relieved. See, the school was back to normal, people meet and navigate easily around the school.
"Just a bit. No worries, you're here now," She said waving it off dismissively.
"Ready as I could ever be," She said lifting her chin up. Getting in the dueling mood you know.
Standing before Lex a few feet apart, she bowed, then raised her wand. That's how they start riiiiight. All done properly. Deciding this was no time to chat, she paused for a split second then, "Tarantallegra!" What? Lex would rather be in pain that embarrassed and dancing feet is an embarrassing thing

Cassia was sighing audibly but she could tell the girl wasn't like...annoyed so maybe more relieved. That got her thinking. What could have possibly made her friend so relieved to see her. They'd already agreed to meet here so her showing up wasn't a suprizie, in fact, she almost expected a lecture for being late.
She was about to ask, you could never be too sure. Not after what the term had held but Cassia seemed to snap out of it and get right back to talk of the duel. She could do that too.
"Great we can start right after--"
But the girl was already bowing. Wait what?? By the time she got around to bowing her best friend was already straightening again. Blink. What?
Spell casting too!!! CASSIA SOMERLAD!!!
"Prot--" But the spell was already in motion and so were her feet. She skipped and twirled around the room finding it hard to take aim. Finally, she just decided to shoot. "Stupefy!"

When she agreed to duel, she knew she'd be the one ducking and casting protego all the way. How come Lex missed that one! As Lex's legs started dancing and twirling, Cassia couldn't contain herself and BURST out laughing. Duuude, this was fun. She might have like exaggerated as she doubled over with laughter. Man, she hadn't had a good laugh since....she couldn't even remember.
Though, enough for now.
Hadn't Cassia's first reflex to mostly everything those days was 'Protego' she would've been unconscious. "PROTEGO!"She shrieked. Phew! She could have DIED! The snake gave the lioness the was-it-really-worth-it look. It was just dancing legs. "Finite," She uttered pointing her wand at Lex's legs. Let's start over with no fatal hexes, shall we??????????
"Flipendo!" BYE LEX! See you on the other side of the room.......or not?

Yeah she saw the look and if she wasn't busy wondering what the heck her feet had her doing she might have actually responded. Dancing legs looked better on someone else and her best friend could totally pull off the unconscious look. She should have thought about that instead of protesting so much and casting a shield.
Finally the dancing ended but she wasn't about to thaaaank her because she was casting right away. This time Lex was a bit more prepared! "Protego!" She was happy standing just where she was, thanks.
But she wasn't done yet, she was gonna try getting in a spell before Cassia had a chance to try again. But what spell. Think Lex, quickly!
Ummmm...
"Locomotor Mortis!"
And she got set to protect herself again, just in case. Though she didn't expect to miss this time. Once was enough thanks to her sabotaged legs.

No need to thank her that she put her our of misery or anything. Nope, not at all. Oh, and she blocked that by accident. LIES. Come to think of it, Flipendo was really an expected hex. Like they practiced it on the dummy a couple of months ago. So yea, you're welcome.
kgjrijhrgjth't! What was that hex? See if she had known what the effects were she would've totally yelled 'Protego' but believe it or not she'd only heard it like once before and it barely registered. Cassia blinked, and decided to test the effects. She tried to take a step forwards but her legs were glued to each other so she ended up losing balance and toppling over on the floor.
THUD!
Now the harder thing was to stand UP! The fourth-year got on her knees and pushed herself up with her hands. Very fun! Except that she wasn't smiling nor laughing. Lex, didn't expect her to right? Craving revenge she raised her wand,"Levicor--pus!" She kinda forgot her legs were bound and she almost lost her balance and flailed until she straightened again. All while she said the incantation.
"Finite," She ended it for herself. That should have happened before revenge. Did that Levicurpus even work?

Dylan sashayed into the dueling arena, a total bounce in his step. Everything was wonderful and awesome. Some of his "finals" had come back...and he'd passed them all...Well, all the ones he'd thus far seen. He'd been in the top student-range in most subjects...All was perfect.
To round it off, the Slytherin Captain had invited Alice to come duel with him....More to celebrate really. They always had fun together...and Dylan was looking to just have some. Fun, that is...
Now to wait.
As he did so, he set his bag down and removed his outer robe, settling it down over his bag....and then he started rolling up his sleeves. BUSINESS. They were going to get down to business.

kgjrijhrgjth't!
Was it just her or was Cassia just standing there? That hardly counted as the hex being successful if she just stood there and took it. That was something close to an insult. Did she think she would miss again? She wouldn't have, you know. Her aim wasn't that bad when she was standing perfectly still like she was just now. How very rude. There wasn't even any reason to laugh at her when she toppled over. NOPE.
"You did that on purpose! It doesn't cooount." Which probably meant that she should have been allowed to cast enough. Just to be fair about it.
She frowned down at her. Standing still. Really?
Being the good sport she was she waited for the girl to hobble her way back on her feet--but only because it was her. Anyone else would have gotten their face hexed off while they were down there. Teach them to just stand there like her spell wasn't a threat at all. "Okay, now how's about next time you--HEY!" Suddenly she was being hauled into the air by her ankle. This wasn't working for her.
"OI!" She floated around taking in everything from a new perspective...she couldn't hurt Cassia...the girl would lose concentration and DROP her but at the same time, she wasn't just gonna hang here.
"Incarcerous!"

Nothing but her wand had been brought along when Alice arrived at the Dueling Arena, sleeves already rolled up. There were two possible outcomes of how this could go. She would either be kicking Dylan Montmorency's bum at dueling and end up having to drag him back to the dungeons, or the fifth year was going to end up horrifically maimed and carried back to the Healer for injury treatment later on.
Hopefully not the latter.
"Here," she said, springing into place beside the older captain and twirling her wand between her fingers. Was Dylan set to go already? He'd explain how this would go, yeah?

...And then an Alice had appeared!
Dylan had a rather peculiar look on his face at the sight of her. She was also set up to go...sleeves rolled up like his. Hmm. He offered a lazy smirk and just as lazily drew his wand. Were they going to say some stuff first? That usually wasn't his style...but he could do whatever...
Was Alice waiting for him to talk? It seemed like it.
The Slytherin cleared his throat.
"So...don't hold back...." Inspirational? Dylan thought so.
...And then he bowed. Bowing was the custom and everyone needed to do so before starting a duel. It was what was proper....or whatever. He waited for her to also bow...cause after she'd done so...
Dylan wasn't going to hold back...He hoped she wouldn't either...
"Impiriano." He'd hope she wouldn't notice the subtle motions or whatever of him shielding himself...

Like she'd ever hold back. Please.
Fat load of good that'd do her against Dylan, though.
Bowing back, Alice took a couple of steps away from him on the platform, watching intently. She had noticed the small movement of his wand- she noticed everything, didn't he know?- but her ears didn't pick up on his murmur of the incantation, so she remained unaware and slightly skeptical of what he was doing. Was he going to throw the first spell?
It wasn't really her style to blindly toss charms and curses and hexes right off the bat, so the fifth year brandished her wand and patiently waited for her opponent to set the tone of the duel.
All while keeping a very close eye on that wand hand of his, she was already suspicious.

Dylan waited....waited....and then waited some more. Was she not going to strike out at him first?.....And why wasn't she immediately shielding herself. The Slytherin was asking himself all the things.
He really had not wanted to cast first....Not against Alice...
Fine. Okay...Whatever....
Breathing and total focus on the task at hand, he began moving....Stepping in circular motions around the Gryffindor Captain. His eyes weren't leaving her...or her wand...but he'd caught her doing something similar. She was watching him like a hawk. Good. She'd anticipate and protect herself...
Hopefully.
"Locomotor Wibbly!" Dylan moved fast, maneuvering his wand through all the curves that make up it's motion...Red light shot out of his wand tip and soared towards Alice......Was she going to block it? Would she cast a shield?
Would he need to contego her?
