This square, stone area is the middleman between the castle and the grounds. Thick columns enclose this space, while elegant ivy creeps its way up the pillars. In the center, water plays merrily down a multi-tiered fountain, which provides a pleasant background for conversations. Whether it is a bench to sit on, a quiet place to study, or a hang out spot for friends, there are many ways students use this open-air location.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
So this was the place where Lupin passed away right? The Slytherin checked the list in his hand for a quick moment and came to the conclusion that he was right. He placed the parchment back in his pocket and walked to the middle of the courtyard.
It was actually really freaky when he thought about it. Trying to find out places where someone had died as an homework assignment but..it was just that...an homework assignment.
He took out his wand and aimed it randomly at the ground. "Spiritum Revelio!" he said and did an counter clockwise-turn and a point throught the middle. He waited and looked around the area but after a few minutes he found that nothing was shining a bright green color.
Walking away from the spot, Daichi tried a corner. He used the spell and checked the area but still found nothing. Shivering when a cold wind swept over the courtyard, he turned around and pointed his wand in that direction.
"Spiritum Revelio!"
......nothing........and it was getting colder... which reminded him that he wanted some ice cream. He'd first get some ice cream and search somewhere else.

In searching for dead people, the best place to start was on the ground. The ground floor, that was, and he wasn't searching for dead bodies so much as places where the dead had fallen. Honestly... this was a pretty morbid assignment, if he let himself think on it for too long.
Mo fiddled with his wand as paced around in the courtyard. He was thinking about the Battle of Hogwarts, and about how many people were likely to have fallen here, in the Entrance Hall, and in the Great Hall. Those were his first three spots to try, simply because his numbers were good and he could be disassociated from those deaths by almost 100 years.
He found a spot near the entrance and pointed his wand at the ground. "Spiritum Revelio." Anything? Hmm? Maybe he was doing it wrong. Mo hit his wand against his leg as he moved over a few inches and tried again.

Darn you, homework. If Elodie had the option to just write an essay without having to leave her bed, she would be perfectly fine with that. Though, death was intriguing, and she supposed this was a pretty cool homework to have anyway.
Wand in hand, the fourth year assessed the courtyard with a wiggle of her nose. Didn't smell like dead people. Not that she knew the smell of dead people. She'd just start here. Where she was standing. Which was.. about the center of the courtyard. Work her way out with her eyes. Checking her parchment, she knew that there could have been plenty of deaths here, but from the notes in class she had Lupin written down. It was a start.
Wand aimed down, Els moved it in a counter-clockwise circle, and then pointed it through the circle, thought completely about Remus Lupin and accompanied it with a clear "Spiritum Revelio." Green, green, green, come forth. Oh there it was! Pulling a face, Elodie wiggled her nose again and just looked at the green outline. This was no fun. It didn't really do anything, and it didn't specify that that WAS Remus Lupin. The green outline wasn't too noticable, but she wasn't sure if she had focused enough.
"Couuurtyard...." She mumbled, ticking the area off on her list.

Good thing Voldemort was long dead as were his Death Eaters the thought of being killed by any of them was beyond frightening.
Still pouting the redhead watched her kiddo go on with the spell. Hmmm...why wasn't her kiddo getting it right? Maybe some practice was all she needed. "How about you try again after me?" She looked at the girl as she shuffled and frowned slightly. She wanted her kiddo to get it properly.
"Spiritum Revelio!" She cast the spell, but not with full focus which may have been on purpose. Nothing. Ella could try again then? "You go, kiddo."
Ella watched as Nessie tried out her spell and frowned slightly when she didn't find anything. This was going to be a tough one, yeah? Mostly because it was a big courtyard and they didn't have much to go on.
Walking a little bit away from where Nessie had just tried, the blonde made the counter-clockwise motion with her wand and then pointed through the middle. "Spiritum Revelio!" ....Nothing.
"I'm gonna try again, okay?" Because she really wanted to get this right.
The sixteen year old walked a few more paces, did the correct wand movement, and said, "Spiritum Revelio!"
O__o
"Ness! I see it!" The green glowy shape of a human. Merlin, it was really weird. It made Ella feel sort of sad. Frown.

There was another student there, a Hufflepuff Mo vaguely recognized from class, also doing the same assignment. She looked around his age, and since he felt the kinship of familiarity, Mo sidled her way with a small grin. He nodded where she'd managed to produce a result from the spell.
"I figured there should be loads here, because of the Battle of Hogwarts. You're lucky you spotted one right off, because I haven't had a bit of luck." He pointed his wand away from them in the opposite direction and murmured the spell again. "Spiritum Revelio." This time, there was a brief outline of green, and Mo gave a very uncivilized whoop of celebration.
"I was right, then, wasn't I? A couple of them out here, at least. I'm going to the Entrance Hall next. Y'know... if you want to come with."

Oh, hi there. Elodie wiggled her nose ever so slightly at the company and shrugged her shoulders. "Were you super concentrating? Maybe you picked one up, but weren't concentrated enough for it to show properly?" The one she'd picked up hadn't been too visible to the eye. It took the fact she was almost pleading to find one first try.
He was going to try again, huh? Her eyeline followed the direction his wand pointed, and she caught it! "You got one!!" Great! That was good! Elodie clapped her hands for him and grinned at his own little celebration. That was cute, huh? She debated why she hadn't celebrated her own find for just a second, but by then he was speaking again. He was right? She had to chuckle at that, and nodded.
"Aren't all Ravenclaw's usually right?" Els wasn't intending to be stereotypical, but the comment fell out before she could process it. Something she supposed she should work on. "The Entrance Hall sounds good.. I have to pass through there to go anywhere else, I suppose. Sure, I'll join you!"
Now to make sure she didn't mess this spell up at all, waa.

From Great Hall to courtyard. This time she thought smartly. Mhhm. didn't waste her time at all. This also was going to be pointed out in the essay. Not that the Professor asked for it but it's a bonus. Knock yourself out ,Professor! Cassia was feeling generous. Probably won't last long. As she got to the courtyard, she was still scribbling some notes. Then when she finished she slid the textbook into the bag and unholstered her wand. Okay. Who died here, again?
She actually had to check the textbook then returned it. Rumus Lupin. The werewolf dude. Hmmm…. Where to stand and do this spell. It took the blond a couple of minutes to decide on a spot where she stood and waved her wand in the air drawing a circle counter-clockwise then pointing through it and of course murmuring, " Spiritum Revelio." Her enthusiasm had grown less. Surprisingly nothing revving about spotting where people's spirits left their bodies. Nope. Not to the Slytherin at least. Did the Professor really think they'd use this spell one day? Well, if they had to then it'd be for a tragic reason. She hoped she'd never have to.
Oh oh oh! Was that green outline! She waited a bit until she was sure and saw the body outlined clearly, then holstered her wand and retrieved her textbook. Notes time!
Then to next place. Or should she take a break? Hmm…

They were making good progress, super great progress actually but after seeing that they'd need to head onto the grounds she suggested they head down to the kitchen for that ice-cream first. Now that she had a bowl of the stuff she could better concentrate on reading the list and knowing where to go. This stuff was hard enough with the parchment and Mr. Vinteren had wanted them wondering around doing guess work? Good one.
"I wish whoever had mentioned the courtyard would have mentioned where in the courtyard the guy died." It would have narrowed her search.
Standing around, eating ice-cream would get her no where apparently. SIGH.
Just one more scoop. There. Now she would go searching. "I'll check right here." Wand aimed. "Spiritum Revelio!" Ugh nothing. "On second thought, don't waste your time over here."
She walked on a bit before deciding to give it another go. "Spiritum Revelio!" Waaaaait for it. Waaaaaaaaaaaait. Ah hah! Success! "Over here, cast over here! That should about do it and we can make a note of this one too!" She didn't think she'd go looking anywhere else though so it was safe to say this homework was over.

Just thinking about this assignment was enough to make the boy cringe and let an uncomfortable feeling settle down in the pit of his stomach. Because... well... they were finding the outlines of people who had died in these places. DIED! He'd rather not do that, thanks. Ignorance was bliss and all of that.
But, earlier that day, the boy had a good long think about all of this and had decided on eating a bowl of ice cream before heading off to start the assignment. Ice cream solved everything according to the boy and it was certainly working its wonders now. A slow grin spread across the boy's face as he headed down towards the Courtyard, his hand clutching onto his bag. Yeah... he could do this assignment, right? Yeah?
... Or... not.
Alec had only taken a couple of steps into the Courtyard before coming to a abrupt halt. BLINK. The Courtyard seemed to be a lot bigger now that he had to find something here. And it was just somewhere in the courtyard that the person had died? That... wasn't going to be too helpful. The person could have died ANYWHERE in this space! From somewhere near the middle to a corner over there and... he had to find it. Great.
He took out his wand and looked down at the spot he was standing on. He’d just start here, yeah? And work his way around? … "Spiritum Revelio!" he said, drawing a counter clockwise circle in the air and then pointing his wand through the circle. … Nothing. Vinteren had said that there was no definite way of knowing whether you had performed the spell correctly if nothing showed up. And that practice makes perfect.
He’d just… move on. The boy took five steps forwards and performed the spell again but… nothing. Again. On and on he moved, the spell still not producing any results. He was almost about to give up and go and search somewhere else when…
"Spiritum Revelio!"
… Outline! The Hufflepuff shuffled a little closer and looked at the shape carefully. Yeah… it was definitely green enough to be the outline that they were meant to be looking for. Grinning, the boy placed his wand back inside his robes before taking a seat on the ground. His hands reached inside his bag and pulled out his journal and quill.

Was there ice cream in the Courtyard? No, no there wasn't, and Alice's face fell a little when she realized there wasn't. But it was okay, she knew that right AFTER this, they could get ice cream. They could, right? Lex was okay with that? If not, she'd make puppy eyes until the third year got her some.
"It's Lupin. He's around here.. somewhere." She watched eagerly as Lex cast on one side of the Courtyard, and then the other, not giving it much thought until she got loud. "You found him? Where?" There. Alice noted where the figure was and jotted the note down before folding up the parchment an tucking it in her pocket. "Done! Ice cream now?"
She grabbed Lex's hand and excitedly began leading her to the Kitchen. "You know what kind I want? Jelly slug. Think that the machine makes that? I hope so. I'm in the mood for jelly slug. Although, if they don't, I like lemondrop next best, and then all the other flavors after that, so it's still okay, but I reaaaally want jelly slug."
Really. She did.

Making his way down more stairs, through corridors, and out through the entrance hall, Dylan was fully prepared for the last two locations. All were about former Professors at the school. Professors....Truth be told, Dylan didn't care too much about them. It wasn't like they were his age or whatever.
That was disrespectful....probably...but it was true, nonetheless.
As he neared the Courtyard, he readied his wand. Dylan probably wouldn't have too much success here...because he didn't know the exact location...Ugh. Whatever. He'd successfully spotted the last two 'spirits'. He was confident his spellwork wasn't shoddy...
Deciding on a random location, the Slytherin went through the motions before semi-shouting the incantation. "Spiritum Revelio!"...and as he'd predicted....nothing....Not even a trace. It was what it was. He just didn't know specifics.
He'd probably have more luck in the greenhouses, anyway...

She had left Little princess in the common room, she didn’t liked it to leave her rat behind but she was not sure what she would do that day so she had left her rat behind. She also didn’t liked it to be here, she had a detention from professor Botros and she hated it! West whistled to himself as he came into the courtyard, carrying broomsticks. A lot of broomsticks. It wasn't EASY to carry so many broomsticks either by the way, but he had a big armful, carrying them like a stack of firewood though they were obviously more valuable than that. He'd stashed the rest of what they'd need over by a sheltered part of the wall too.
Carefully he set them down in front of one of the benches, and only then did he see that Sonea was there waiting.
... and what was wrong with her face exactly? Mud? Well, okay.
"Sonea. Hi." Paaause. "So, you're gonna help me out with something. And in return I might say good things to Botros, right?" Paaaause. "And we can talk about stuff." Nod. Because Sonea had to LEARN a thing or two.
Helpfully the majority of the Quidditch team had been all FOR helping out with this too. So. West was ready to get started. He sat down on the bench, lounging comfortably.
"Come over here and sit." The fifteen year old suggested cheerfully enough. It wouldn't be that bad. Might even be fun.

She felt horrible, she had tried to clean her face a few hours before but she had discovered that she was not able to remove the mud from her face, she had tried to clean her face for almost half a hour but it didn’t worked. She only could hope that not too many people would see her this way and to make sure that she could walk back to the castle without shame she had her pink cloth in her pocket, just to make sure that nobody would see her later that day.
The second year old sighed and just wanted to sit down somewhere when she heard something from behind her. She turned around and had already her pink cloth in her hands, ready to hide her face when she saw that it was West. But… what was he doing? Where that… brooms? Sonea widened her eyes and stared worried at West. What was he doing with all those brooms? And why had he brought them to her? Did she really needed to… work? She had hoped that her detention would be easy and that she would be done with it within a few hours, but West had apparently other plans…
She stared frowning at West and was not sure what she needed to do now. Did he need help with the broomsticks? They seemed to be heavy… But before Sonea could ask something he looked in her direction and at her face! No, No, No! I hate this!! Yelled a small voice inside her head and she felt how her face reddened, but now she was for once happy about the mud because he wouldn’t see her red face now.
She nodded at West when he started to talk to her and again, she looked at the broomsticks. She had now accepted that she needed to work, but there was one thing she was worried about. She had NEVER touched a broomstick if she didn’t needed to and didn’t knew ANYTHING about them! Flying was something for boys and she didn’t liked it to sit on a broom, it was not really comfortable so she had not much experiences with them. The only times she had worked with the brooms was during her flying lessons, but she had not liked them… So… the point was, she had no idea what West wanted to do with the Broomsticks and what she could do with them…
The second year old groaned, did he really wanted to talk with her? She had a bad feeling about this, knowing full well how he thought about her actions but she said nothing. No, it was now better to just listen to him and to behave herself. She folded her hands in her lap when she sat down next to him and waited.

"So you know we won our Quidditch game right? Even though we got snowed out for a while.... anyway, we dominated. And since we played in a blizzard it means our brooms all need conditioning and stuff, so that's what you are gonna help me with, cleaning and conditioning the Slytherin team's brooms." Some of them at least. West paused to check Sonea was actually paying attention and not... y'know, letting her mind wander since she was just a second year and all.
And obviously he was way more mature as a fourth year. Mhmm.
"Its not hard or anything. I kinda like doing it mostly. Company does make it go faster though. So have you done it before?" He asked curiously.

Eh, won the Quidditch game? She hasn’t watched it, so she only knew that they have won it because she had heard about it from the other students… Everyone had been talking about it but she herself had no idea what was so fun about it. She didn’t understood what was so exciting about flying on a broomstick, so high in the sky… She knew that she was probably the only one who didn’t liked Quidditch but she was fine with that. But… what? What did she needed to do?
She eyed all the brooms and swallowed. Did she really needed to clean and conditioning the Slytherin team's brooms? But there were so much of them! She didn’t wanted to work THAT hard! And besides that, she had really NO IDEA how she needed to work with the brooms! She hated working with her hands and to get dirty, and she had a nasty feeling that those brooms were dirty. If they had been used for sport than the person who had flown with it had been sweaty and she needed to touch it! EEEUW!
“No, I haven’t done this before” she eyed the brooms again and didn’t looked happy.
The weather seemed to be better here in the courtyard. It was as chilly, it was still and perfect. He didn't have to bundle too much to get warm. It was a perfect winter day. As he made his way to the courtyard he noticed that not many students were here. This was perfect!
He could finally catch up on some of his drawings and all. Or maybe....he could write Belle a letter? Yeah that seemed like a better idea. He needed to tell her what was going on. He could finish it in the common room if it got too cold out here. Kace got out his quill and parchment and started to write leaning on his notebook.
