This corridor provides the lone passage into the Courtyard. Reminiscent of the cloisters popular during its construction, this hallway has numerous windows to allow in sunshine and fresh air, as well as niches under said openings that are perfect for a study nook or a place to have a semi-private conversation.

But you know very well that I care, and acting as if I shouldn't sort of... makes me feel like you didn't understand that I was sincere when I asked you to be my girlfriend. And I was sincerely disappointed that it didn't work out." And he wasn't over it, and he felt that should be rather obvious, since he hadn't wanted to break up. Right?
He took another sip of tea, finding that he was about at the bottom. "Eleven percent on the nose, actually." Or ten or twelve. How was he supposed to... "Does it matter, do you think?" His own cup got a studied look, but he still dumped it out in the saucer, leaving it upside down.
Definitely time for symbols. Mo picked up his cup, letting the tea drip from the rim before flipping it over. A circle. A ring? A... a broken ring, perhaps. And further down was some sort of four-legged creature. He turned the cup around and around before offering it to Alice. "What is that? A lizard? A... mouse? Maybe a squirrel with no tail?" He was leaning towards lizard.
"No one said you had to stop caring. Friends care," Alice said with her best stoic face, trying not to look too baffled at his response. "I just.. I.. I didn't think you.. still cared. That much, I mean. In that way." He got more blank looks from her as she turned the teacup around in her hands, staring into it to avoid eye contact. "I figured you weren't disappointed about stuff anymore." Mo didn't hide emotions, right? He was always.. open. Kind of. So she thought that if he were really upset, he'd just say.
Why had they even brought this up? She much preferred discussing her tongue to sudden feeling sharing. This was horrid. "Of course it matters. My cup in Divination was eleven percent full, too. Not nine. Consistency is important." Alice began inspecting the dregs around the rim first, which she decided resembled an elephant. "Yours is a lizard. Definitely." The middle bit looked like a daisy, and that thing at the base somehow reminded of her of a violin. A very distorted violin, but a violin nonetheless.
"Have you got a textbook on you? I dunno what any of these mean," she said, examining the symbols again.

Eliza walked down the corridor with a steaming cup of water in hand and a warm blanket wrapped around her shoulders. She'd written home for a proper teacup so she could do better readings and with winter coming she figured she might as well ask for an extra blanket too. Not that the dorm was colder than usual or anything, but you can just never have too many blankets.
She found a nice cozy spot on a deep ledge of a window and snuggled up into its corner. The steam from her water rose into the air in whimsical licks and twirls as she gazed out of the window at the grounds. The morning frost was melting in the afternoon sun, but as pretty as it looked outside, she knew it was a bit too cold her taste - so inside was where she'd chosen to wait for Ethan to work on their Tessomancy together. Lucky for her, her mother had the thought to send her some nicer tea along with her cup and saucer. It was enough to last the rest of the year as well as enough to share with her friends. She looked forward to surprising Ethan with the new tea, and to save him from the ode to dirt tea they'd used in class earlier.

Ethan wasn't sure exactly why he had put off this Divination homework for so long. Sure, he had done his first reading with Minerva over breakfast a while ago, but his other two readings hadn't happened and he knew today was basically the last day he could do them.. both of them. Maybe it was the tea that pushed him to procrastinate. Ethan had never been a big tea drinker, surprisingly enough, but it was even worse now with that cheap, horrid tea that he had to use thanks to the lovely budget cuts.
But terrible tea or not, Ethan knew he had to get this done so when Eliza asked him to join him for a reading, he was more than eager to meet her. He grabbed some of the tea leaves and dumped them into his favorite coffee mug from home and headed out to the corridor that led to the courtyard. He tightened his cloak around him as he neared, the air growing crisper as he neared the corridor closest to the frigid outdoors. Spotting the younger Claw perched on the window ledge, he gave her a grin as he approached, and joined her on the makeshift seat. "Hey, Eliza.. ready to divine a few leaves?"

Spotting the younger Claw perched on the window ledge, he gave her a grin as he approached, and joined her on the makeshift seat. "Hey, Eliza.. ready to divine a few leaves?"
Eliza looked up when she heard the soft drumming of feet on the stone walkway, knowing it must have been Ethan coming to join her. She was pleased to see she was correct. "Hi Ethan!"I sure am! she chimed happily as he sat with her on the ledge. She pulled her baggie of loose tea leaves out from her bag and waved them at Ethan. "I hope you like Oolong. My mom sent it," she said with a smile and sprinkled some into her hot water and let it steep while they chatted.
She was quiet while the tea settled in and tried to think of a question she wanted to ask. The water seemed to have cooled down a little now, so she carefully strained it through her teeth and enjoyed the full flavor of the blend. This is sooo much better than that stuff in class, she thought, taking another long drink from her cup. She watched as Ethan did the same, and she wondered what his question would be. She really didn't have anything specific she was wondering about, so her mind drifted to general ponderings - like 'How will the rest of my school year go' or 'Will this be a good year for me' and things like that.
After she'd nearly drank the whole thing, she swirled the cup around three times like her notes had said, flipped it upside onto the saucer, then sat it back upright to view the shapes. She was a pretty imaginative person, but sometimes it was hard for her to see shapes right away. She opened her textbook as a reference and looked to Ethan. Maybe he's good at this, she thought. "Do you see anything in yours?" she asked, peeking into his cup.
She looked back to her own and focused. Maybe that looked like a rabbit on the middle. And that on the rim there...it sort of looked like a flower to her. Like a lily or maybe a tulip... There were some speckles all over the place and some clumps didn't look like much of anything, but there on the bottom she could sort of make out a bird with its wings out. There looked like there were a few crescent moons in several places, but any blip of tea would vaguely look like that, now wouldn't it?

There looked like there were a few crescent moons in several places, but any blip of tea would vaguely look like that, now wouldn't it?
Ethan looked on with interest as Eliza pulled out a bag of tea. "Oh.. you got that from home?" he started, a slow grin forming on his face. "I'm not really a tea drinker, but that's gotta be better than the stuff they have here." Oh, that tea was just awful and he couldn't even add anything to it to make it taste better or it might adversely affect the reading. "Thanks!"
Ethan tossed the substandard tea leaves from his cup out the window, then happily accepted a spoonful of Eliza's specialty tea leaves. He added water via a nonverbal Aguamenti and his wand. The nonverbal spell still produced a rather weak trickle, but that was perfectly fine for filling his cup. Once he had enough, he cast, "Chaudensis." As he ran his wand circularly along the rim of his cup, he could feel it heating up.
The Prefect closed his eyes a moment as he set his cup down to let the tea steep, sitting quietly as Eliza did the same. What should he meditate on? He tried to clear his mind, then opened his eyes and picked up his cup to take a sip. He still preferred his espresso, but this was loads better than the school-provided tea. His mind wandered to Quidditch.. and his new position. Was he really good enough to take Dustin's place and to relearn skills of the game as related to what he would now be playing?
He drank more, nearly the rest of it, and pulled out the small plate his mother had sent in his shipment of personal tableware to use as his saucer. He swirled the small amount of liquid several times around in his cup then dumped out the contents. After letting it sit for a moment, Ethan returned his cup to an upright position and peered inside. "Well.. I see a few things, I guess," he started as Eliza questioned him. "This cluster of leaves here near the rim kind of looks like a candle to me.. see the flame on top?" At least that's what it looked like to him, anyway. "And I think in the middle, it sort of looks like a unicorn.." Well, sort of an animal-blob with a singular horn shape? That was unicorn-ish enough.. or at least that was the first thing that came to mind.
Ethan peered into the bottom. What was that shape in there? "This kind of looks like a fist.. or a rock.. what do you think?" He tipped the cup in Eliza's direction so she could see for herself. Then his eyes fell on her cup before he looked back at her. "So.. what signs did you find in your leaves?"

"I'll get better soon. I'm working on it. I think I figured out a trick to it," Mo reached across and gave Alice's hand a squeeze while offering his best stoic smile. So what if he hadn't moved on or whatever? It wasn't a thing that meant they couldn't be friends like before. Or better, even, because now they'd gotten all that romantic nonsense out of the way.
He eyed his cup again, deciding that she was right. Yes. It was a lizard. Obviously. "Definitely a violin," he murmured, only giving her half his attention at the moment. "And yeah... text book." He fished it out of his bag and set it on the blanket between them.
Now then... what was this shape up by the rim? A blob. A giant blog with holes in it and... oh. It was a mask, maybe. Mo held up the cup to his eye to squint at the dregs until they made sense. He should start writing this stuff down.
SPOILER!!: Journal
Circle (broken) - A circle with a break in it suggests unfinished business or a failing relationship.
Lizard - A Lizard advises you not to worry unnecessarily.
Mask - A mask indicates that you feel insecure about a situation, but you should have more confidence in yourself.
This reading was completed in the middle of the day, and the question I asked myself was, frankly... about a girl. I spend way too much time worrying about my interpersonal relationships. Maybe I should have asked about that. Anyway, I was trying to think about how not to care about this girl anymore since she doesn't care about me like THAT. Embarrassing stuff. Please burn this journal entry later.
At the bottom of the cup was a broken circle, which is pretty obviously indicating the end to a relationship before I was really ready for it. I suppose it could also indicate that we have some unfinished business, but she doesn't like to talk about feelings so that's not going anywhere. Near the handle, I spotted what is either a squirrel with no tail or a lizard. I'm going with lizard because it tells me that all this worry and stuff that I'm feeling right now is unnecessary and probably unhelpful. Then up at the top is something like a mask, which is telling me some of the same thing - that I need to get out of my own head and stop being so doubty about myself. So really, it didn't answer my question, but it was good advice and I'll take it.

Then his eyes fell on her cup before he looked back at her. "So.. what signs did you find in your leaves?"
Glad that Ethan seemed happy to use her tea, Eliza smiled a big 'ol crooked grin at him as he began his reading. "You're welcome! ...Oh you don't like tea though? Well...I hope this is okay enough for you." She glanced down at her own tea, which she thought was quite delightful. "That must be sort of a drag to have to drink things you don't like for a class all the time. What do you like to drink?" She wasn't sure she'd ever really asked him before. Though she had noticed him drinking some coffee at the Ravenclaw table in the mornings before. She wasn't much for coffee though - in fact she thought it was pretty gross.
She peeked from her own cup for a second when she heard Ethan cast a spell. Well that must be to heat his tea since he didn't come here with any hot water, right? She didn't know the spell, but it seemed really useful. "Wow, that's a neat one! I don't know if I've tried that yet. Is it hard?" she said, nodding to his circular motion around his cup. It seemed like a staple spell, heating water, so she didn't know why she hadn't thought to learn it sooner. Sometimes she just got stuck in her muggle routines since her neighbors were always so close by.
She looked on, intrigued with Ethan's tea reading. She felt pretty privileged that he was sharing something so personal with her. Like it was a secret she was allowed to know or something. That was, if, his reading was accurate. "Oh yeah, I do see the candle. That's interesting." She followed his gaze and laughed a little at the unicorn spotting. "Yeah either a unicorn or a one horned goat," she said with a chuckle and flashed a sidelong look at him. The one on the bottom was harder to make out. "Yeah...it could really be either, couldn't it. Or maybe it's a lump of coal," she teased again. Christmas was coming, as everyone knew, and she just couldn't help the cheesy humor every now and again.
She tipped her cup towards him so he could have a look as well and explained what she found. "Well," she began, "First I noticed the flower on the rim, see? I thought it was a lily but I only see 'flower' in the book," she said as she flipped the page open. "Then in the middle, I saw a rabbit." She wondered if he could see it too. But maybe if he had been looking for shapes, he would see something completely different - if this whole tessomancy thing was anywhere near useful anyway. "And then on the base, it looked like there was a bird. Those looked like wings...there," she pointed to help him see where she was looking.
"I still am not totally sold on this...but maybe it can be true sometimes. But that's the trouble isn't it? If things are only true sometimes, then they're false the rest of the time. It's almost like lying by omission if you think about it...kind of." She shrugged and raised her eyebrows at her cup. Maybe it worked, maybe it didn't, but it was still fun to do. After this hot tea, she was feeling the need for some sugar. Usually she'd put it in her cup but since she couldn't...she'd just have to get something sweet afterwards to make up for it.
Eliza looked up her meanings of the symbols she saw and found that the bird meant there would be good news or good luck in the future. She read some of it aloud to Ethan, in the spirit of sharing and good friend type things that she was sure people did, right? "Looks like the bird could mean good luck in my future, so that sounds good."Well that sort of makes sense, because the base of the cup is where the future and ultimate answer is…so I will ultimately have good luck? But what does that mean? Will I get to play in a match and score a point or something? The possibilities to “good luck” were endless, but she supposed she couldn’t expect too much, since she hadn’t thought of a very direct question.
She read further, "And the middle symbol, the rabbit, is about getting over being shy and also about taking care of yourself. She felt her face get a little hot at the description and felt slightly embarrassed. If this was true, did that mean she’d been overly shy and needy around people? She hoped not. She didn’t want to be a bother and really didn’t want to annoy anyone by needing too much help or being too uninteresting. She just kept a lot of her thoughts to herself, and maybe she was a little shy, but that didn’t mean she didn’t want to talk to people. She liked people a lot actually. "Erm...oh." She squinted up through her hair at Ethan and wondered what he thought about that, the question plain on her face. But she wouldn't ask outright. Not now that she was worried she might be overly dependent on him. And this was sort of just proving that point.
She twisted her hair between her fingers and flipped to the next symbol. "Well at least this one sounds a bit better…" she said as she read the description. "So a flower is a good thing because it means good things are happening. And that’s true, because the rim means right now…and I am in a pretty good mood today. Especially since I get to see you a little, so yeah, I’d say that’s right." She blushed a little at saying aloud what she'd meant to only think to herself, but she'd lost herself in her thoughts and forgot her mouth was moving. She tried to ignore it though and read further. "And dreams will come true? Well that’s a lot to expect for the present today, isn’t it?" She wasn’t sure about the last part, but who knew, maybe something big would happen today. She copied down her findings in her notebook so she could look it over again later.
Well after that little soul searching session, she was feeling like an open book, a somewhat uncomfortable open book, but she knew Ethan was a good friend and wouldn't really judge her by her reading too much. Even if some of it was true. "Erm, so...what do your symbols mean?" She hoped his would be accurate too so she wasn't the only one feeling on display anymore.

Ethan looked up from his cup and smiled at Eliza. "No.. this is great," he said, inclining his cup slightly towards her. "I like tea sometimes.. I just prefer coffee, espresso actually." His morning ritual.. he wasn't sure he could function without his daily caffeine. He shrugged a little. "I wouldn't mind if the tea they had gotten for class was halfway decent. That was the worst cup of tea I had ever had.. so I'm really grateful you brought some of your own." He grinned at her, hoping there were no leaves stuck in his teeth or anything.
Pulling his textbook from his bag, he began flipping through to the appropriate section then looked up at the question. "Oh, that heating charm? No.. it's a relatively simple spell.. You haven't learned it yet?" He was a bit surprised, hadn't they used it in class previously? But maybe not.. "You just run your wand around the rim and the incantation is Chaudensis.. you should try it on your next reading." Useful spell, that one was..
He glanced up at Eliza as she looked into his cup and confirmed his findings. Good.. he wasn't completely crazy and making things up. Heh.. one-horned goat.. he chuckled a little. "Lump of coal?" he glanced back into his cup, not getting the reference, and shrugged. "Yeah, I suppose it could be that too.. I guess I'll just go with my initial thought then if it could be any of them.. a closed fist." He wondered what that would mean and if he would like the meaning better than any of the others..
He looked up at her, then peered into her cup as the younger Claw began assessing her leaves. Oh, it did look like a lily, he thought with a smile. Maybe a stargazer.. Anyway.. "Yeah.. I can definitely see all those," he said with a nod, then he tilted his head slightly as he thought over her words about Tessomancy in general. "Well.." he began after a moment's thought. "I think they can be true.. but maybe not always in the way that we're looking for. Like, perhaps it's not as literal as we think and we have to dig deeper to find its meaning and how it really relates to our life or path.." Of course, that was just his opinion on Divination in general.. who knew if he was right or way off the mark?
Then he leaned back a little, listening thoughtfully as Eliza presented her findings and interpretations. "Good luck in the future is always a good thing, yeah?" He grinned a little then continued listening. Getting over being shy..? Hmm.. he hadn't really thought of Eliza as a shy person, but maybe it was situational. He tilted his head and gave her a curious look as she seemed to be looking at him strangely. Maybe she was wondering what he thought of her symbol? "So, maybe it doesn't exactly mean that your overall personality is shy because that's never the impression that I got of you," he started with a small grin. "It could mean more about a situation you are reluctant to be in or do something in.. and that you need to work to overcome that.. does that seem at all relevant?" He looked at her questioningly before she continued with her third symbol.
The flower meant good things.. He grinned, then chuckled a little at her theory of its meaning. "It's always a good thing to hang out with a friend, yeah?" And the good mood was great.. so it seemed pretty spot on. "Maybe more good things to come today, too.." he added with a raised brow. The entire day would be considered the present, right? And dreams to come true.. He shrugged a little. "The day's not over.. maybe something you've been thinking about will come to fruition.. even if it's something minor.. What had you been meditating on when you drank your tea, if you don't mind me asking?"
Okay.. so now it was his turn. "Alright, my first symbol near the rim which would be the present reading, I thought looked like a candle." He turned to that symbol in the book and his green eyes skimmed the passage. "It says that a lit candle represents faith and motivation." He thought for a moment, then shrugged. "I had been thinking about Quidditch so maybe that is related to faith in my new position and a motivation for the season to start?" He chuckled a little bit. Obviously Elise had some sort of faith in him or else she wouldn't have had him replace Dustin.
"So, I think we decided this one here in the middle was a unicorn," he said with a chuckle and he flipped to that page, reading the meaning. "Apparently I have psychic powers," he finally said, chuckling a bit more. "Not really sure what that has to do with Quidditch or what might happen in two weeks.. What do you think?" Christmas was in two weeks, perhaps he would successfully predict what kind of gift he would get and maybe it would relate to an upcoming game.. he didn't know. Maybe that one would remain to present itself in its own time.
"Next, I settled on a fist as a symbol.." It was what he thought of first and he was fairly certain first impressions counted here. "The book says a closed hand relates to an argument or disagreement," he said with the hint of a frown. So how would that relate to Quidditch in the future? Hopefully not a disagreement with one of his teammates.. he hated arguments.. Maybe there would be some sort of dispute over the cup? "So.. what do you think?" he asked Eliza, looking up, just wondering for a general impression about his entire reading. It was always good to get more than one view on these sorts of things, he thought.

She grinned and looked up from her cup, "Good! You're very welcome! Yeah that tea in class was awful, but maybe we can bring some of mine in." But that made her think, "Oh, but I'll need enough to share. Could we just cast gemino on a bag of it so that everyone could have some?" She wouldn't want to leave anyone out and make them drink that other tea. "Espresso? I don't think I'd like that much. I've tried coffee before but it' too bitter for me.
She skewed her face as she tried to remember. "Maybe I have used it before...I don't remember. Anyway, it's pretty handy! I'll have to try it out soon." She made a mental note of it. And wait...how did...he cast water without me hearing? Did he...?! She whipped her head back towards Ethan and asked, "Did you just a cast a non-verbal spell?" She knew he must've, but she didn't want to assume if he hadn't.
She teased him further when he seemed like he didn't get her joke. "Yeah, you know," she said, nudging him in the shoulder, "Lump of coal? Like what parents or Santa give their kids for Christmas if they've been bad that year?" But maybe he hadn't heard some of the muggle stories she had while she was growing up. She listened as he went on about his reading though and didn't try to explain it any further. Unless he asked, then she would of course.
Nodding slowly at what he was saying about Divination in general, Eliza found herself agreeing. "That makes sense...I do think I try to make it all match up a little too literally sometimes. Thanks, I think that will help me do all of this a little better." She would try to keep that in mind. Then again, it did sort of make everything even that more wishy washy and easy to mold into whatever purpose you wanted it to serve, but she'd get it eventually.
Ethan was so smart sometimes. She hadn't thought of herself as super shy either, but there were times when she struggled socially. "Wow...yeah. You're so good at this! I suppose...yeah there are times when I can't seem to think of what to say, so maybe that's what it means. I should...be more confident in those situations, I think." She looked down and slowly peeked out at him. "Times like...um, talking to cute...people. Andquidditchtoo." She blinked away from him and wondered how he would take that, him being her best friend at Hogwarts and a lot like a brother in a lot of ways.
The last part, about good things coming and dreams coming true, was making more sense the more that Ethan talked about it. "Oh, that's true. I didn't think about it being a minor thing." She paused and tried to word what she'd thought about. "Well it was sort of mostly about if I would do well in Quidditch or if I'd get to play...and also if I'd do well with friendships this year at school...and I guess I was also sort of curious about, um, if I'd start being friends with any boys...in the future..." She didn't know why it was sort of embarrassing to talk about, but she felt comfortable with Ethan and if she couldn't tell him about these things, she didn't know how she expected to talk to anyone else about them. Though Min had become a very good friend to her this year as well.
About his reading now, she agreed again, no surprises there. "Oh that makes sense that a candle would be about faith, huh? I think that makes sense. I have faith in you and your new Quidditch position!" So maybe it was sort of about her too, and his friends, and himself...and everyone.
She scoffed slightly at the next description. "Psychic powers? Ethan, is that why you understand this so well?" She winked and chuckled about it. "Um, hmm...maybe you have...an inkling to something in your life and you understand it more than you think you do? Trying to think non-literally here," she said with a small smile.
She considered this last one for a moment. "Hmmmm...a disagreement? I hope it doesn't really happen, but maybe it could be with a student about house points? You are a prefect now, so maybe you'll have to do some disciplining soon?" That was a tough one.
She wrote in her journal her final thoughts about the reading.

Divination - Homework One
Afternoon Reading:
Rim: Flower - good things are happening. Joy, success, happiness and dreams will come true. - Present Reading
Middle: Rabbit - needing to get over being shy and needing to take care of yourself - Near Future Reading
Base: Bird - good luck or good news coming in the future - Future Reading
The flower could relate to my life in the present because while I’m doing this reading, I’m in a really good mood. I’m feeling happy about enjoying my tea and about spending time with my friend, Ethan. So that part is spot on. The rabbit could apply to my life in the future because I do get shy sometimes about some things - namely talking to certain new people. I could work on being less shy and being more confident around certain people and in Quidditch too. I’m still so surprised I made the team, even as a reserve, so maybe the rabbit is telling me to feel more confident about that. And lastly the bird meaning there will be good luck in my future, could mean that I will be good at Quidditch. Maybe I will help score a goal or will contribute to the team somehow. Or it could mean I will finally be more self assured when trying to talk to new people, which would be an example of me fulfilling the rabbit part of the reading.
Once she was done she set her cup and saucer aside and turned back to Ethan. "So how has being a prefect been going for you so far?" She felt like they hadn't talked in forever.

But he decided not to expand and say instead, "Well, I'll just have to wait and see, beautiful." He was unbelievably charming or at least he thought so.
Yeah, he noted that pause. Was she alluding to him? Pfft, no way. Look at this face. He was excellent company. She was probably talking about the lot in the yellow. They were weird ones.
Pause, think, take it all in. Shrug. "Okay, I have nothing else to do, beautiful." That was her cue to lead the way.
"You'll see, it's not so bad here." She shrugged almost dismissively. It kinda did suck for everyone that was here for the first time, and for the poorer students. Sure, Dora didn't know about this whole payment and cleaning stuff. But neither did they and it was their first term here, and some couldn't afford this.
She watched him pensive. "It's Dora."
He was forgetful, she would continue reminding him.
"I'm going to see the creatures professor, to see what books she has on jarveys. I don't think we'll beat the rain, but we can impervious ourselves so we don't get sick." She knew the spell too, in case he didn't.
Dora pushed off the sill and started walking, expecting him to follow.

"Are you not better right now?" Why wasn't he? Alice continued staring at him blankly from the other side of the afghan, wiggling her fingers slightly in acknowledgement when he took her hand. "You shouldn't hurt for me. I'm not worth hurt." She gave him another look before breaking off another piece of the naan with her free hand and going back to staring at her tea cup. "What's your trick?"
Violin. "Mmm, violin." Writing the things and interpretations down from the reading as she went, Alice copied all the meanings of the symbols in her teacup into her journal entry before setting her quill down and scooping up a bit of the curry with more flatbread. She was totally looking over his shoulder at all of the things he was writing down, too, and.. was he going to turn in ALL of that? To let a professor READ? "I don't have issues with talking about feelings," she informed him defiantly. Just so he knew. Because she didn't.
Really. She didn't. Hmph. Feelings. Hmph.

"I'm better enough," Mo released Alice's hand and leaned back on his elbows, his eyes on the sky above them. He was making her uncomfortable, and he was behaving like a fool. So. "It's your own fault, you know? I haven't been able to find any other girls even half as interesting as you. Trust me, I'm looking. And the trick, obviously, is to use magic," he responded in a light tone as he watched a leaf spiral through the air above them.
He agreed with her, though. Hurting was lame, and he was the only one suffering. Time to knock it off.
"You shouldn't read people's homework. It's either dead boring or else will say something you're not meant to read," he offered unhelpfully, sticking his tongue out at her for good measure. And she was HARD to talk with about feelings, which was what he'd meant, really. Maybe Alice loved to talk about how she felt (she didn't, btw), but she didn't make it easy.

"I'm not interesting, I'm confusing. You're just mixing the two up in your head." Being complex and interesting weren't the same thing at all. Did being complex make her interesting, though? Alice considered it seriously, gaze still fixed on him, watching. "Magic." Did he mean like love potions and things? Hm? .. was that why they were having curry? Was there something in there? Eyes, he was getting them.
She stuck her tongue back out at Mo and glanced over his parchment one more time. "You're writing about me, it's not my fault I peeked." He wasn't going to put names on that, though, right? Yeah? Okay. Deciding that the curry didn't have anything in it- because if it did it wouldn't have tasted this good, probably- Alice scooped up some more of it, finishing off all the flatbread he'd brought. Pity. It was really good.
Was there still rice left? Her stomach had space for it.

She got a look. Alices were complex and confusing creatures, yes, but Mo wasn't stupid. He knew what interesting meant, and Alice qualified. She was funny and clever and she always had something to say, even if it wasn't a thing he wanted to hear in that moment. "Magic," he agreed, finally. "To skip the stupid parts and go right to the being fine."
If such a spell existed, Mo would find it.
He shoved himself back up and filled Alice's plate again, giving her the rest of the rice and half the chicken. He was a growing boy, so the other half of the chicken was his by default. "I wrote about a lot of people, actually. I dunno how you could do this assignment and not write about people, but I didn't use any names and I doubt the professor knows me well enough to guess. Or would want to guess." She'd have to really be interested in teenage drama, and Mo couldn't see that happening.

He didn't think it was BAD here, to be honest. Ascanius just wasn't one to gush about an academic institution 'cause at the end of the day they were stuck here to learn, which was irritating where male Professors were concerned. Give him something to LOOK at while he learned... and Ascanius was all set, yeah? In any case, he didn't reply to that comment for reasons.
Jeez, he knew her name. Smirks. He wasn't mental. Ascanius just wasn't going to say her name, he thought it was cute though that she was going to try and get it out of him. So he just threw on a smile and added, "I know, beautiful."
And then she was talking at him real fast and everything was all jumbled all at once. Right, well, she looked nice saying it so he was just going to pretend he was listening and let that do the rest. But then she was up and off. He tilted his head to the side and took a moment to appreciate her. Right then.
Deciding that was good, he stood up and jogged up beside her. Now where were they going again?

"Can you do that? Have you skipped the stupid parts?" Mo wasn't supposed to do the stupid parts. She wanted him to go right to being fine, too. Because Alice had stupid parts as well, like having to see him go through the stupid parts and then feeling bad because she couldn't fix things. Which probably wasn't as stupid or as bad, but still. Stupid. Was there a spell for that? Could she, like, use Reparo on him and fix things?
Worth a try, she'd do it when he wasn't looking.
Back to food, though. "Thanks." She immediately started on the rice, mixing it together with the chicken and beginning to eat it, talking around it still in the most ladylike manner as possible. "I still don't have issues talking about feelings, though. Just so you know. I can talk about them any time I want to." Not that she wanted to, but Alice could. Really.

It wasn't like Alice needed magic for herself, but he'd keep her in the loop so she wouldn't sit around thinking he was mooning over her. It just so happened that Mo had a life. It was small, but it was his. Alice got a side eye before Mo shrugged.
"So now we've discovered that I should be a world famous chef. What else should I attempt? Soup? Buttered toast? I don't want to over tax my skills, so maybe buttered bread to start, and then I can work up to dry toast." He grinned at her over his glass of lemonade because MERLIN hot food is HOT.
She got another side eye, since she was apparently circling back around to talking about feelings. "Any feelings in particular you want to talk about at the moment, or are you just open to feeling-talk in general?"

"Try to, okay?" Alice downed some more of the chicken and rice, eyes on him all the while. "I can't make toast. It's really, really hard. Always ends up burnt. You should probably wait a while before trying it, only extremely experienced people can make it." In all seriousness. Toast was difficult, okay? It blackened so easily and she couldn't do it. Much too strenuous for her.
They weren't talking about feelings now, were they? Not that Alice couldn't, just.. "I'm open to feeling talk in general. I'm only saying I CAN. If you ever wanted to." He didn't though, right? She did her best not to get fidgety again and focus on curry and stuff. Better than sharing, plus she couldn't discuss feelings like a lady if her mouth was full, see?

He couldn't eye her yet again without it becoming a thing, so Mo simply shrugged and let the conversation progress on to toast. And how difficult it was to make. Hmm, not promising. "I'm going to make you the perfect slice of toast someday. It's pretty much my only goal in life now. I can die happy afterward," Mo brandished his fork at her before dropping it onto his empty plate.
And see? Alice said she could talk about feelings, but she was absolutely having a freak-out about the thought of it. Mo smirked a bit, although he actually tried to be circumspect about his gloating. "Yeah, sure. Absolutely. You CAN, but why would we do that right now? Why give ourselves indigestion over feelings when we can just lay around and be full and fat and happy?" And to illustrate, Mo flopped backwards on the blanket and rubbed his belly.

"You do that," Alice told him seriously, still around the food in her mouth. "And I can critique your toast and tell you if you met your life goal and if you can die happy." Sounded like a plan. Once her plate was empty, she dropped her fork on the dish, too, and held it out for him. Because Hufflepuffs did the cleaning, and she thought Mo was probably more Puffer than she was. So cleaning was his.
She SAW that smirk. Stupid smirk. Alice could punch the smug right off of his face, she could. "I don't get indigestion." For one. "I'm not full." For another. Her tummy was a bottomless pit, didn't he know that by now? "And I can still talk about feelings just fine, I could do it NOW if you wanted, without getting indige- did you just call me fat?" Distracted for the moment, she looked down to survey herself before looking back up at him with a blank expression. "I'm not fat. I'm.. I'm lithe."
LITHE, Mo, lithe.

She grinned and looked up from her cup, "Good! You're very welcome! Yeah that tea in class was awful, but maybe we can bring some of mine in." But that made her think, "Oh, but I'll need enough to share. Could we just cast gemino on a bag of it so that everyone could have some?"She wouldn't want to leave anyone out and make them drink that other tea.
She teased him further when he seemed like he didn't get her joke."Yeah, you know," she said, nudging him in the shoulder, "Lump of coal?
Once she was done she set her cup and saucer aside and turned back to Ethan. "So how has being a prefect been going for you so far?" She felt like they hadn't talked in forever.
Ethan thought over Eliza’s words about the duplicating spell and shook his head. “No.. I don’t think so... Geminio doesn’t really work on food like that. Similar to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration..” That would make things easier though, yeah? But unfortunately he was stuck with the bitter tea for class unless someone else brought something better in. Hopefully they were done with the tea leaf readings for this term. After the one he did tonight, that is.
He chuckled a bit as she asked him about his nonverbal spell. It was a new thing for him and he was still pretty excited about it. ”I did..” he started, smiling modestly. “I actually just learned this one and Scourgify to do nonverbally.. They’re not perfect yet, but they’re getting there. I think I’m going to work on Incendio next.” He was constantly using those three for potion work so he figured he did those ones best. Ethan smiled to himself, a bit impressed that he could do a couple nonverbal spells and that Eliza seemed a little impressed as well.
Ethan furrowed his brow a bit as she tried to explain about the lump of coal. That was sort of an odd tradition, wasn’t it? Giving coal to naughty children.. “Hmm, maybe that’s a regional thing? I hadn’t heard that..” He mulled it over a bit more.. seemed like some extreme form of conditioning.. did parents really do that? He was lost in his thoughts a bit when Eliza’s words about her own reading and his interpretation of it brought him back to the present.
“Oh, I don’t know how good I am at it..” Though he would admit that Divination was one of his favorite subjects.. ”Sometimes there’s just more than one way to look at things and someone else can offer another interpretation,” he added with a shrug. Maybe it was a good thing to do some of these readings with a friend rather than by yourself.. they might catch something you hadn’t thought of.
He tilted his head slightly, watching her carefully as she continued. Cute people, hmm? He supposed she meant boys.. "Anyone particular in mind?" he asked lightly. He wouldn't be surprised if there were more than a few boys interested in her.. she was a pretty girl and a lot of fun.. but he felt an almost brotherly need to make sure any boy interested in her was good enough for his Eliza. "Well, your readings point to good things," he said with a smile. "I'd say that's encouraging for the things on your mind.." And it better be because Merlin help any boy who hurt her.. but she was thinking about Quidditch too.. good. "I see you playing in a game soon.." he nodded. "You're really good, you know.." Especially for someone who just started playing.
He shrugged a little and smiled modestly as the talk of Quidditch turned to him. "I don't know.. maybe I need to overcome my own insecurity about my new position.. It's just a bit intimidating to have the team depend on you when you don't feel qualified enough to do it in the first place." He much preferred to play as Chaser.. that's the position he learned with and felt the most comfortable.. but he guessed he could grow into his new position with enough practice and time.. but would he get enough before the next game?
He chuckled at the remark about psychic powers. "That must be it.. maybe I'll go see Elwood later about developing my Inner Eye," he said with a wink. He enjoyed Divination, funnily enough. It didn't seem like such a Ravenclaw-ish subject, but he still felt there was something to it even if it wasn't always logical. Some things just couldn't be explained. Then he shrugged as she gave an explanation to his third symbol. "It could be that.. but I was more focusing on Quidditch when I was doing the reading, so I'm thinking it might have to do with something there.." Though what, he did not know.. but he hoped it would be minor because he did not love conflict.
"Being a prefect has been pretty cool so far," he said after a brief moment's thought. "It's a lot of extra work, but I kind of like being a leader for Ravenclaw, you know?" Funny, he never would have thought he would.. but he did. He liked the responsibility and feeling of being somewhat in charge. "So, what have you been up to? I feel like I haven't seen you in a while.. other than in class.." Of course that could be due to him being so busy this term, but maybe she was up to something exciting..

I feel like I haven't seen you in a while.. other than in class.." Of course that could be due to him being so busy this term, but maybe she was up to something exciting..
Eliza tucked her bag of tea back into her satchel and realized Ethan was right. "Oh yeah," she said and put her palm to her forehead. "Duh. I guess I wasn't really thinking of it as being food, but yeah I guess it is." Well there went that idea, but maybe they'd have better tea by some other means at the next lesson. If they even did more leaf reading next lesson that was.
She nodded and beamed to show her appreciation as Ethan told her the spells he could do non-verbally now. "Wow that's cool, Ethan! I'm sure you'll get Incendio down in no time." She knew he was smart and dedicated, so it would be easy for him as long as he practiced, she was sure of it. "I wonder when I'll be able to do some of those," she wondered aloud to him. Maybe she would start trying a spell she used all the time too, like Scourgify or something like that.
She shrugged off Ethan's confusion about the coal gifting for Christmas. It was a weird thing and maybe he was right. Not many people said it much anymore. "Nah I don't know, a lot of older people mention it as a joke. I've never received any so I don't think they really give it to kids. It's weird...don't know how it started actually....Anyway," she waved her hand to chase the thought away and listened to what he said next.
She nodded in agreement as Ethan talked of multiple points of views on things. He was always so modest about his abilities, and she gave him a little face about it when he discounted his Divination skill, but she didn't say anything because as much as she wanted him to know that he was good, she knew humility and modesty were good qualities and he was just being polite. He knew he was good and if he didn't know, her look she'd given him would let him know that she knew so. "Oh definitely, there are always lots of ways to view everything. Especially in things like art you know? Not that this is related, but you know - one person might see some abstract painting and think it's just a mess of color but to another person, they might see waves of an ocean or lava or it might evoke some sort of personal memory for them you know? Life's all about perspective. I think anyway." She had gotten a bit off topic, but that was just in her nature. Ahem. "But for tea leaf reading and divination topics in general, or things like psychology, I think the person's own first reaction type view is the most important since it's their own life and psyche they're trying to interpret. Like the color blue to someone else might mean sadness but to me it would mean my house or water or something nice like the sky." She nodded to show she was done with her unnecessary spout of thought. Ethan probably already thought a similar thing anyway and she didn't need to tell him how to do things - she just enjoyed talking with him anyway. Even if she wasn't being particularly interesting.
Oh, but now maybe it would be a bit more interesting for him to hear. Thanks to their spot on the window ledge together, Eliza was able to tap his foot with her own playfully after he asked for more details about the cute people comment. This was a gesture she'd learned from her sister, who liked to lightly kick Eliza whenever she'd been teasing her too much. She hadn't even thought about her reaction until after she'd done it, but it didn't seem weird or anything to her so she just went with it. She knew she was being silly by being so quiet about these things. She knew she could talk to Ethan about them, no matter how quiet and measured he was being in return. Still blushing a little in spite of herself, she opened up a bit. "Well...I guess there's not much to tell, but there are a few that I've noticed lately." That made her sound a bit more boy crazy than she really was though, so she explained quickly. "I mean, not a lot, but, well have you ever seen how many attractive people go to this school? I'm starting to wonder how anyone gets any work done! ...Er, well okay maybe not that far." She inspected her fingernails for a few seconds and then rested her head back against the window and just decided to let it loose. Just tell him, go ahead. He won't tease you...much. Will he? She let out a little sigh of surrender and name dropped about cute faces. "West is pretty cute you know. And Alec. And, well Nash is really cute, but he's older so of course he is you know?" She lowered her head again so that she could see his reaction. What does he think about this? Maybe he knows what to say. Maybe he knows things about boys that I don't. Well obviously he does since he IS one. She recognized that Ethan himself was a cute boy, but she didn't think of him like that really. Also, not wanting to get any bad karma started for herself, she added, "And I mean, I don't really even know them you know? And I know Alec is dating Ella and stuff, I'm just talking about their faces. You know? I don't...I don't really know anyone enough to um...to like like them, you know?" And now she was feeling awkward again. Even though it was just Ethan. Maybe because it was Ethan. Now she wasn't sure. No, it wasn't because it was Ethan, it was because it was a new topic. A new thing she'd noticed and she didn't really know how go about it, or to ignore, or to investigate it, or what.
...
After giving ample time to discuss her new found appreciation for physical appearances, Eliza tried to make Ethan feel better about being Keeper this term. "Thanks for thinking I'm good, that's really nice of you," she said quietly in response to his praise. "You're going to play just fine, really. You're a good player and you'll adapt. It might take some time but I know you'll get it down." Because Ethan was obviously good at anything he put his mind to and she didn't want him to forget that. She'd even be his personal cheerleader from the bench if he wanted.
Eliza let out a full on laugh when Ethan talked about his Inner Eye. "Yeah, you'd better get that developed quick before you lose the gift," she joked again. "I'm sorry, only kidding. I really do think some people can do all of that stuff, just...don't quit your day job yet okay?" She laughed again and shrugged. Maybe he really will develop some awesome Inner Eye abilities though, who knows right?
"I'm glad you like being a Prefect! I think you're doing a good job. I mean, nothing too crazy has happened on your watch right? Other than the other houses having a tonnnn of points. How do they do that anyway? I really don't want to be in last place this year!" In fact, that was what she'd been so busy with this year. "Me? I've been really cracking down on homework and helping out around the castle. Trying to make it a nicer place but also cause...you know, points. Gotta get more sapphires in the hour glass! OH! Speaking of! I saw the goblin take the house points and it was so crazy. I wish you'd been there. I tried to stop her but she dodged my spell, so then I ran to get Lafay because she was closest, but then she didn't come at all anyway because some of her things from her store room were stolen so she got pre-occupied with that."
So really she had been up to a lot this year. Another thing came to mind so she shared that with him as well. "So other than that, I've just been spending some time in the kitchens, eating ice cream, sketching, studying, making up new deserts with different ice creams, taking walks in the forest with ice cream, trying to meet some of the animals... OH! I met a few hippogriffs! How cool is it that they like ice cream too? I would've given them more but Mr. Firth made us all go back inside the castle, but he was sort of nice about it so it wasn't too big of a deal. He's another good face walking around the school, you know?" She hoped that he knew because she wasn't sure she'd know how to describe why and how to him if he didn't already.
"I'm glad we've got a little while to hang out. I feel like I haven't seen you besides class either." And that made her sad. Actually she would've normally been a lot sadder about it but for some reason, despite all of the weird stuff going on in the school, she'd managed to keep her chin up about it. Really far up. Really happily far up and almost annoyingly optimistically up. But she had no complaints there. "So what all have you been up to?" She knew he spent a lot of time with Minerva and that was partly why she hadn't seen him, but she hadn't wanted to invite herself to their hang outs cause she knew they were dating and probably wanted time alone, but that did leave her a little bored with two of her best friends busy with each other. Not that she was complaining, but aside from sharing ice cream with people in the kitchen, she hadn't done as much socializing as she'd wanted to this year. She just seemed to be so hungry all the time that she wasn't often too far from the dining hall or the freezer.

Mo paused in the corridor leading outside and considered his surroundings. Nope. This was not the place. He did take a moment to lean against one of the columns, though, scratching thoughtfully at his arm.
What was it he'd just been doing? He was dueling with Lex, right? But then something more important came up and now he had to... oh, duh. Right. Riiiiight.

Finally. Last place to search for dead bodies, or where they died. She wasn't concerned much about perfecting the spell, because she wasn't intending on using it. Why would she? However, she had become pretty well at it. Having preformed it successfully in four places. And she now was awfully bored. So she decided to go out on the grounds. First she hopes to find where that Crouch person passed away. And second, to go have a walk, breath some fresh air and have FUN! Was the point of this homework to kill the spirit of the student.
Shifty Professor.
The fourth-year leaned upon one of the rock walls and put her bag at the edge of the window. Then wand out. She really suspected that Crouch died here but she wasn't going to go any further. Nope. Don't even try to convince her. She was stubborn. Very, you can't even imagine.
Clumsily and lazily, she waved her wand in the air drawing a circle then pointed the wand through it. she knew the movement by heart now. Might actually perform it, in her sleep. Which would be creepy. The blond rolled her shoulders feeling goose-bumps all over her. Oh wait, she was lost in thought that she forgot to speak up the spell.
Again, a circle and a jab. "'Spiritum…. Revelio," She muttered. Then, she sat down at the edge of the window, hugged her knees to her chest and waited.
………
………..nothing.
Oh well, sounded that the man didn't die here. Good to know. Immediately she holstered her wand, yawned then leaned on the wall. She'd rest then get up. And nope she wasn't going to search the grounds. If all those years no one managed to figure it out was she going to? How come the man's family didn't search. Not her problem.

MERLIN!!!!
Why was it that whenever she chose to follow him he was always moving so fast? Coudn't he remember that she had shorter legs than him and couldn't possibly keep up??
Ugh. Finally he stopped and she was able to catch up. "Seriously. Slow down. You left your stuff back in the arena and I guess I left mine trying to catch up with YOU." This meant he would stop and tell her where he had to go. Lex wanted to know too.
Also...was that Felix bounding toward them? Neat! He was here for the adventure too. Really though, where was he going?
