The highly anticipated Quidditch seminar, led by all star athlete Colin Mackenzie, and well-advertised around the school, was supposed to be held today. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts and his tightly packed schedule, Mackenzie has been replaced by four of Hogwarts' more familiar speakers. All his posters have a big red CANCELED sign stamped over them, and the professors replacing Mackenzie --- Botros, James, Romanos, and Truebridge --- have a most serious expression on their faces as they stand in a line at the front of the spare room off the Great Hall.
Come in, have a seat on the floor (there are cushions around, don't complain), and get ready for an interesting.... lesson.

And now they were supposed to name a defensive spell they could use. Um.......hm.........well, it seemed like most people had said all the ones she could think of, and now she was focused on them and couldn't seem to really come up with anything besides those. So Penelope kept silent for this one and just kinda half-listened, her mind wandering back to Aurors again. The people, not that acronym-or-whatever-it-was-called thing.

Well, everyone was saying interesting charms. So Nigel was going to say the most obvious one. "There is Protego. But if it is an unknown curse. Then duck and cover can work."
Nigel was just happy that the buzzers were gone. His hands were beginning to hurt from all the zaps he had taken The fun had ran out and now his hands were in pain. Nigel rubs his hands hoping the feeling will go away.
Duck and cover sounded.. hmm. "Yes, not very useful in most cases though, the threats we're talking about here are alive, so I figure it's run, climb a tree, and cover." He grinned at the boy.

Holy Merlin's Beard. Botros cleared his throat and nodded, "They might come in handy, maybe when you're running to get help and a tree's log blocks your way." Blasting off creatures though? It troubled him even if the creature was vicious. "Let's not blast anything until it's our very, very last resort, please." She got a nervous smile from him.
Mooooving on. The ancient runes man took one last glance at twitching Ms. Romanos. "Those are very good spells. I would add some more," Especially if they were being attacked, "Flipendo, the Knock Back Jinx, and Everte Statum, the Hurling Hex. Not defensive spells but mighty useful to keep a dangerous threat at bay." He would use them rather than the blasting ones Cambridge suggested. Ahem. "Can we get volunteers who can demonstrate some of those spells to their fellow students, please?" Botros placed both of his hands on his cane and encouragingly looked at the kids. Two volunteers for each spell.
Laura looked at the Professor and raised her hands. "Professor I'd love to help you by demonstrating any spell that you want me to, I am awesome at Flipendo." Laura was really good at doing spells, but she wasn't sure if the professor would let her demonstrate because well she wasn't sure that they liked her but at least she was asking if she could and hopefully they would say yes.

Cassia sat listening to all people suggesting spells and all. She recognized all of the said ones. Which was a good thing. Though she wasn't pretty sure about a couple of them. When the professor asked for volunteers, She raised her hand, "I volunteer," Because he legs were starting to feel numb sitting here doing nothing.
And she perked up at the mention of demonstrating. Meant they were done answering trick questions and getting zapped. Though she only got zapped once. it still wasn't pleasant. Hexing was so much better.... Or demonstrating.

Snort. Alexa Cambridge was NOT going to waste an epic spell on a fallen tree. Maybe, if the situation called for it but there were better ways of using it, much better ways Professor. The two he mentioned were alright as well, she guessed, sure, whatever. Mooooving on.
Eeek! Volunteers??
"Oh! Oh! Oh!" Lex's hand shot up and she was bouncing were she sat. "Me! Pick me!!! I can volunteer!! I've very good at at least one of the two spells I mentioned!!! Meeeeee!!--er...unless...those aren't the ones you want me demonstrating..."
Were they? They were the only ones she was willing to hop up to perform. Her spell work was shoddy when it came to shields and unfortunately Laura had already asked to do Flipendo. "I still volunteer!"
Could she blow stuff up now?

Awwww, Tobias had started to raise his hand before remembering that he wasn't all that good at magic yet past some of the basic stuff. He'd so wanted to get involved as well. The thought crossed his mind to volunteer to be hit BY a spell but something told him that a lot of the Hufflepuffs he knew wouldn't be very fond of that idea COUGHlookingatyouquidditchteamCOUGH.
But watching was fun too, so Tobias changed his position slightly because he was starting to get pins and needles in his legs and then waited. That Flipendo one sounded fun.

That did sound more plausible. But if it was alive. Would it give you enough time to climb a tree. Just something to think about. Tactical Retreat was always a sound strategy.
Nigel was more in the mood to watch people try spells. How knows maybe he will get a laugh out of it or some awesome spell casting.
It was a win win either way.

Volunteers! That was awesome, Sarah raised her hand, and held it high in the air. She would have waved it, yet would that seem immature? "I would like to volunteer on any of those spells... I know them well". She had gotten her brothers to have a 'verbal' duel with her over the holidays, and she was always brushing up on more spells.
Volunteer? Well....she would if no one else did. But it seemed there were a few eager beavers in the crowd, so maybe she wouldn't need to.
She raised her hand anyway, because she liked Botros, and said, "Professor, I can help if you need more people." She didn't really know the spells that well, but with instruction she was sure she could do them just fine. And then maybe they'd get ice cream for helping?

Botros nodded at all the girls and ushered them to come forward, "Yes, very good. Try the shielding and the disarming spells for us, please." They probably needed older students for the hexes, too. He eyed the others before glancing at the enthusiastic lioness..

"Uh I'm afraid we won't be blasting anything today, miss Cambridge." He looked worriedly over at his fellow staffers, should they be worried about the instincts and interests of this little girl?
"Go ahead." He told the four volunteers, "For the disarming spell, you can partner up." Or choose a victim partner from the "audience".

Ella wasn't fast enough to volunteer but she did sit up a bit straighter, watching her classmates as they got ready to demonstrate. She always enjoyed watching people perform spells. And Laura got a small smile because the sixteen year old was proud of her friend for doing such a good job this term. Looked like she was sticking to her word after all.

She wasn't allowed to volunteer? Well fine but don't expect her to watch either. She leaned back onto her elbows and tried licking the bowl clean. Anything to distract her because you know what? She was throwing a five year old's tantrum. She was NOT looking. Nope nope nope.
After she got the bowl clean she just left the bowl on her face because the inside was more interesting than watching people doing something she wasn't allowed, obviously. How long would they be demonstrating for anyway--heeeeeeyyyy, MAYBE ONE OF THEM WOULDN'T DO IT RIGHT AND SOMEONE WOULD GET HURT?? Oh wait...no...she liked some of them that were volunteering so she couldn't hope that would happen. SIGH. Back to staring at the ice-cream bowl.
Someone just nudge her when this was over.
No buzzer, no blasting things, she was SO over all this. Worst part was, there was no ice-cream break so she was stuck licking an empty bowl while she waited for this to be over.
Were they doooooooooooone yet?

Hopping up and walking over to where the Professor stood she stood facing the students and considered which she wanted to demonstrate. Hmm...She was better at shielding than at hexing. So she wasn't going to go with the hexing. Then she'd have to be hexed because whoever partner she was going to pick would want to hex her back and she wasn't totally okay with that. Reaching for her wand and unholstering it, she stood and glanced at everyone else. Oookay. She kinda forgot that she'd be demonstrating in front of all those people. She didn't like that very much. But she didn't have to look at them. And if she did she'd just look at her friends.
Ahem. She cleared her throat took a step back to make sure no one's eye gets poked with her wand or anything. The fourth-year raised her wand and with an upward flick she uttered, "Protego," A bright ,blueish light appears from the tip of her wand.
So that's it. Should she bow or curtsy or something. Naaah. It'd be too much. She just holstered her wand and stood watching the others.

Eliza's eyes widened when she heard herself actually being called up in front of the seminar. She had kind of been bluffing, but she would do her best now anyway. She stood slowly and went by Cassia to watch her first. Her shield was pretty good! She liked the color of it, reminded her of blue moon...er... Quick, think of a spell to show! She wanted to get this over with, so she met eyes with Laura to let her know her spell would be coming for her, so she could shield herself or duck or whatever. That way, she could show a spell and then if Laura was quick enough...she could too.
Left hand raised, she pointed her wand at the Hufflepuff and let the incantation dash from her mouth. "Expelliarmus!" Could she slink back behind someone now and not have all of these eyes on her spellwork?

Laura had been surprised when the Professor had chose her and was a bit nervous but then she saw the look on her best friend Ella face, she seemed to be smiling which Laura liked and so she smiled back at her friend, she was going to do her best now just to make Ella proud.
Laura turned back and saw the look on Eliza's face, she knew that look anyway, Laura grabbed her wand out of her pocket and as soon as she heard Eliza start to use the disarming spell, Laura shouted. ""Protego!!" Laura watched as Eliza's spell bounced of her shield, she smiled at Eliza, how did her friend know she wanted this done quickly.

.......Dylan kinda blacked out there for a moment. Merlin, he was tired...Too much NEWT study for him, he quickly decided. What was being asked now? The Slytherin seen Professor Botros talking and immediately felt bad. Ugh....The older man was Dylan's favorite. Shame on him for...tuning the man out.
"Erm....Sir? I'll also practice and demonstrate if you need me to." The Captain was positive they didn't need anyone else...but the offer was thrown out there just in case. Merlin...Some kind of sleep schedule needed to be worked out because he was wearing himself incredibly thin.
For now, he just watched Alexa and Cassia...and others...
Felt kinda lame just to watch, though....

Okay, she would do the disarming spell then. She was not a tad intimidated by the people watching, in front the attention craving part of Sarah enjoyed being one of the chosen four. She took out her wand.Looking around for a victim. Then she saw Alexa... she was no sissy, but just incase Sarah tried motion Alexa with her eyes that she was going to be the subject. Hopefully Alexa got the message, but if Alexa didn't then it would just prepare Alexa for future surprise duels.
Then she made a quick movement with her wand, which looked like the spell invntor used the Golden Ratio for and "Expelliarmus" she casted, pointing her wand at Alexa. Her voice was rather loud, and there was a flash of red light

What was one meant to do when there was no more ice-cream left in the bowl and nothing interesting enough to distract her while the others practiced? She was about to try falling asleep when she heard Dylan volunteering too. Hey! That would make five then she could even it out by being the sixth person!!!! Yeeesss!!!
Lex yanked the bowl from her face and glanced at the Slytherin Captain before looking over at the Professor. "I can volunteer with Dylan--"
Oh...?
From the corner of her eyes she caught Sarah trying to do something but by the time she turned in the hopes of interpreting whatever it was there was a spell already being cast at her!
Lex watched, eyebrows raised as her wand shot out of her hand and hit the ground. Her eye twitched might have been excess static, she wasn't all that sure. Ruuuuuude, you don't aim at someone who's deprived of ice-cream and in the middle of a tantrum! She wasn't ready. That was cheeeeating. She let the wand stay where it was. Her reflexes weren't to be trusted and she didn't want to accidentally cast the wrong spell at Sarah. Surely she didn't mean to annoy her. Just stay there wand. It was better that way.
"Nice shot Sarah." Believe it or not, saying that took a lot out of her. She didn't fancy being cast at by anyone.

............Aww. See? Alexa wanted to practice with him. Dylan grinned at the younger girl. She was a favorite. Yep, totally was.
"Professor, can we?" He wasn't making a move unless he was told he could. The Headmistress was here and he wasn't giving anyone any opportunities to take points or punish him.
The Slytherin, after all, had a reputation to uphold.

Botros watched the Slytherin girl perform the shield charm before patting her shoulder and gently pushing her to her seat again, "Very good, miss Somerlad. I hope you all paid attention to the upward flick." Then was the Ravenclaw and the Hufflepuff. Ab's smile stretched wider, "Excellent job both of you, thank you." Now where was the Gryffindor-- oh! Botros chuckled and clapped her on the back, urging her to go back to her seat. "Very good, very good. The wand movement for the disarming charm would be like this." He demonstrated again in slow motion.

SCORE.
Grinning widely at his favorite Professor....Yep, totally was his FAVORITE....Dylan made his way towards the front of the room. He's said THE shield charm...but the Slytherin knew all the ones that had been previously taught to him. Glass to sand...Impiriano and Contego...Could he perform those instead? They were leagues more interesting than Protego.
Meh, he'd start with Protego and then go through the others.
That was a plan.
"Whenever you're ready, Alexa."
Yep, just casually tapping his wand against his thigh...Ready whenever...

HGDSKUEGFSK!!!
"Woot!" Moment of sulking over. Lex hopped up and grabbed her wand. Now that she was getting what she wanted she was fiiiine, no need to harbour thoughts of hexing people who aim at you without even being sure you were ready. Ahem. What?
SPELL TIME!!!
Oh? Dylan wanted to demonstrate the shielding one, Double!SCORE!!! She wasn't very good at those, she'd rather the knockback jinx any day!! "Okay!!" She BEAMed over at him. If he hadn't asked she wouldn't have gotten a try. "On three. One, two...three! Flipendo!"
You'd never believe how good she felt after casting that. It was like it was building up inside her. How long had it been since she cast a jinx?? Probably too long since she could hardly remember. He would obviously block it but that didn't make it feel any less good and she was now content. COULD SHE CAST AGAIN???

Dylan could tell she was eager...but that was just Alexa. She was always ready to prove herself. He just assumed that was a mark of Gryffindor, though. Mostly, they were all that way...or, at least, that had been his experience. Not Selina Skylar, though. She never cared about proving stuff...
Ahem.
The Slytherin was watching the younger girl carefully, though, noting her excitement...and the way she was pulling her wand. He'd need to speak with her about subtly before he left this place. Her actions gave too much away...
Right. Alexa was casting...
Using seeker-reflexes, Dylan whipped his wand up, flicking, before shouting "Protego!".....It was kinda cute how pleased and happy she looked after casting that spell, though. Her happiness was sorta contagious as he himself began to grin.
"Try to remain focused and calm..." Just some advice.
Could they go again?

Gooood, good, they'd had some volunteers to demonstrate and no one had been injured or seriously wounded or died. Perfect! Annie would call that a successful lesson! She had even managed to hold her temper in check for the duration of the entire time. Hooray!
Now time to wrap up. "Thank you Mr. Montmorency, Ms. Cambridge..." she said to the last pair of volunteers. "With that, I think it's well past time for you all to be dismissed. Once again, I'm terribly sorry Mr. Mackenzie couldn't join us today, but I am pleased with the progress we've made and everything we've learned today. Do NOT forget what to do in a crisis now, you all have no excuses to NOT follow AUROR."
She gave the seminar class a warning LOOK at large. "If there are no further questions, you are dismissed! Thank you all for attending."

It was done? West had spent the last portion of the seminar, the part demonstrating spells he knew already, thinking to himself. The fourth year hesitated for a bit before gathering his stuff, eyes continually flicking up to the professors and in particular to the Headmistress.
... hmmgmmmhffmmm......
He sorta went over there and hovered a bit. This tall, lanky fifteen year old had words to say.
"Um... Professors? Headmistress? I'm... sorry I wasn't more open minded when this... seminar thingy began. I was just real disappointed on account of Colin Mackenzie not coming." And indeed West did still look entirely crestfallen about it. "I should've tried to be more accepting and understanding and... mature about it and stuff." West had just had a bit of a... moment of clarity about it. So. Words.
"Sorry and thank you all for... giving up your time and everything so that we had something interesting to do."
He shifted from foot to foot and then stilled himself, looking at the adults... some of whom he was actually taller than now. Blink. Weird.
