"Good, then. So let's pick up our cups on the count of three. I'll tell you what I see, and you can tell me what you see. Unless it's private, and then we'll just say 'pass', okay?" He picked up his cup immediately, dripping a bit of tea back into the saucer and onto his trouser leg as he flipped the cup over and brought it to his face. "Sooo... I don't know what this thing here at the bottom is. It's sorta like... a wacky hair style. Oh! It's my hair! Or no... a flat bush? Or... " He turned it over and around and around before saying, "I guess it might be a nest." He pulled Mika's book closer and flipped through a few pages to see what it said. "This is my past. It represents security and affection, which is true. My family is pretty close, and my mum is pretty amazing, and I think this term is the first I realized how good I have it back at home." |
Quote:
Or maybe it was just tea with boys…cute boys. She needed to stop thinking. She nodded when he brought up passing on reading it aloud and considered it for a minute. Then, she sat there and listened to what he had said. “wait…this term?” She finally spoke up as he had finished the reading. Her cup and saucer still in hand. “Macabre…are you…thinking of leaving? Because I get it if you do want to I do” she was looking at the bottom of her cup, and then she made a face that was halfway between a frown and a pout. “if you do leave…we should owl each other” she finally said clearly. “and I’ll do the same if my mum and dad decide to head back to Australia” she nodded. “I don’t think they will but. You just” she paused. “you’ve got friends here” she finally said as she glanced back up at him and smiled. “Alright.” She flipped her cup over and looked into it, “so this” she pointed and paused as she glanced into the textbook. And then back into the cup. “um…mine, it’s the middle area an ear” she cocked her head to the side and glanced in again. “Or else it’s a really ugly rainbow – so…um…it means something happening in the next two weeks” she bit her lip and glanced back at the textbook. “An ear tells you to keep your ears open…that I will hear something that I won’t suspect.” She nodded. “Alright…that’s interesting” she shrugged and was about to put the cup down when she noticed waaaay at the bottom of the cup was a little tiny splotch. That’s what it could look like a pixie, a splotch, or even a smear…but, she pressed her face closer and looked in. “A fairy! I’ve got a fairy, thats…cool” she chuckled, and she glanced into the book to find it. “Um…that wasn’t a fairy. I’m sure of it. Cup, you have got that wrong….seriously…” she muttered and she was flushed faced. For good reason. “A fairy indicates…a period of…of…romance” her voice had dropped down so far that it was almost impossible to hear her. Her face was most likely the color of the gryffindor common room - heck, if she was in there she'd probably blend in with the scenery. |

"I'm not thinking about leaving," Mo glanced up at Mika and shrugged. Maybe he had at some point, but things were bearable at the moment, and Mo wasn't one to give up on a challenge. "D'you think I should? I mean... the West stuff is hard, and Alice..." He missed spending time with her, but at least they were still friends. "But you think I ought to go back to Beauxbatons?" He thought he'd been doing better, too. Mo listened as Mika shared her reading with him, eyebrows raising all the way up to his hairline when she mentioned romance. "Well. That'll be good, right? I mean... romantic stuff. Right?" RIGHT? Confusing! ANYWAY. Mo turned his cup in Mika's direction. "Does that look like a stag to you? I mean... no big antlers but it's obviously a manly deer. And stags are all about independence and... being good at being alone." Which was definitely what he ought to be really good at, since he was a rubbish boyfriend. And he didn't want it to be just a deer, since a deer meant that that he was insensitive and needed to work harder at listening. Distinctly uncool. |
Quote:
See…she was lightening this mood yeah? “And well, if, the West and Alice stuff…is hard now it might get better?” She added and then she noticed his eyebrows – and how high they were. “Whoa…how do you do that?” she cocked her head to the side and grinned. Eyebrow waggling was so not her strong suit. A part of her wanted to ask for eyebrow lessons…but that sounded weird right? She just snorted a bit. “Me? And romance…I don’t think…I’ve never, so I don’t know.” She laughed seriously she doubted she’d gotten that right. “for all I know it could have been a pixie and that might just mean that a pixie will bite me in the next…month or so” she laughed. Yeah deflecting that obvious thing…was good right? And then Mo was asking her about the stag and the deer. AND she had to lean forward a bit to see it. She glanced at the antlerless stag and shrugged. “it is a big deer…could it be a horse?” and cocked her head to the side. She then glanced back into her cup and frowned. “Speaking of animals…does that look like a Hippopotamus to you?” she asked as and pointed to something near the middle of her cup, next to a cluster of dots…in a circle, but that made sense. Christmas break was coming around the corner wasn’t it? Then she had an idea. “Hey, idea…if we get embarrassing romantic-weird-stuff we can totally say it’s a fluke in the spinning.” She nodded. Yeah because that made sense right. They did have to slosh the liquid around three times and if not done perfectly a stag could turn into a deer and a bat could turn into a fairy. |
Quote:
Mo studied his cup again... nope, not a horse. Definitely a stag. Rawr, he was virile and manly. His eyes shifted to her cup in response to her question. "Definitely a hippo. And it's easier to change the outcome of your reading if you just figure out what it SHOULD be rather than rejecting the result out of hand. Like... don't like your pixie, you decide it looks more like a grasshopper." Bad example, maybe. Mo turned to his parchment, determined to write down this journal entry before he forgot what he'd observed. SPOILER!!: Journal |
Quote:
Mika immediately sighed in relief as she realized he wasn’t going to talk about the whole Alice, West thing…she both wanted and didn’t want to know. Because she knew most of the people – except Alice, she’d never really talked to her…but she admired her use of teeth in Quidditch. She just beamed at him when he said she could change her outcome. “I might do that…because…well, it could be a genie…and a set of wings very close by” she nodded. That made sense. She was going to go with that one. “and you are right – its easier to think of what you want things to be then what you don’t want them to be…I’ll keep that in mind in my next reading” she nodded before picking up her journal to start jotting down notes about the reading. SPOILER!!: journal She was beaming after the reading was over. "So...I think my family might be growing...which could be a bad thing if they meant my mum again...because then I'd be number three of six...and that'd be too many people" sure she wasn't going to be fully honest and say...I kind of asked two questions because both wouldn't leave my brain at the same time. "how'd you like your reading?" she asked as she pointed her wand at her cup and "scourgify" cleaned it before wrapping it back into its protective bubble-wrap sleeve. |
Someone? Anyone? WE NEED ATTENTION! While Garrick was not particularly keen on the state of things at Hogwarts he was glad he was back. Somewhat. He got to see Lotus now anyway, so that was a plus for sure. But yeah. The place was still dirty. Meh. Plopping into a seat near the fireplace he kicked his feet up and sat staring at the flames for a bit. The fourteen year old had things on his mind. THINGS ON HIS MIND. Ugh. |
Quote:
"Hey, mate. Haven't seen you in a while." |
Quote:
"How were your holidays, though? Eat good food and all that?" Food. That was something he really missed about home, that much was for sure. |
Quote:
"Made you stay home? Why's that? Were you ill?" WAs that too nosy? Eh, social niceties were hard. "Holidays were good, actually. We had three family Christmases with loads of food at each, and I got to take a very pretty girl to the ballet." He paused. "Ballet is rubbish, though. I mean as far as dates go." |
"No, not ill at all. Mum didn't want me to come back given the state of things here. And well, my dad and I had a row about things, too. I am here under the knowledge that if things get worse I'll be home immediately." Which was a total bummer. While he was not exactly keen on the place... and some of the people... he wanted to be able to see Lotus. Like ALL THE TIME. And three family Christmases? That was odd, yes? Garrick didn't SAY that, of course, but he thought it. "All my family came to our home and we had one big one. And well everyone stayed for days. It was alright." Sharing his room with Benjy was something of a nightmare some of the time. Like, he didn't get to owl Lotus when Benjy was around since he was so nosy. Pretty girl to the ballet? "Who was it? Er... if you don't mind my asking. I had a pretty girl over to my house. We stayed in the gardens and stuff. But I got to snog her a little bit." So YAY for him. And yes, he was blushing a little. Heh. |
Benjy coughed. "A little bit?" he said, coming down from the dorms and slumping into a nearby armchair. Yep, he'd caught that part of Garrick and Mo's conversation. "I think the colour of your face says it all." Though he wasn't going to mention he had evidence. Sometimes, he needed an advantage over his cousin. Benjy wiggled a bit to get comfortable in the chair, before resting his feet on a nearby table. Though on second thoughts, if these two were going to talk about 'pretty girls', it might be a better idea to make himself scarce. To stay, or to go? Maybe wait and see? |
Of COURSE Benjy came up on THAT part of the conversation. Garrick's eyes shot open and he sent his cousin a death glare. "There is nothing unusual about the color of my cheeks." Brat. "Where have you been skulking about anyway? Auntie and Uncle sent you back at the proper time... left me all alone with mum and dad. Not even an owl from you." Maybe he was being a bit dramatic and bitter? He had been ABANDONED there with his bickering parents, though. Hmph. "Oh yeah. This is my cousin. I'm sure you know Benjy, though, yeah?" Everyooooone knew Benjy and no one seemed to dislike him. Ever. He was all macho and stupid while Garrick was nice. Still baffled him as to why people favored Benjy... |
Felt weird being in such a .... blue space...but it was also interesting at the same time. Puffing out his chest a bit as he entered - perks of being a professor - and casually took a look around while he tapped his legs. Which was when he was reminded that his pockets were now VERY much empty save for a chocolate frog wrapper. How in Orion's belt was he going to get dinner in the Great Hall if he didn't have the coins to do it?! Which was when he was struck with an idea. Gemma had just done a lesson on muggle currency, yes? Clearly the woman was loaded if she was having a discussion about money in times like these which CLEARLY meant that there were coins all over this common room. Skip back in his step, he made his way towards the nearest sofa and slipped his shoes off. "Good day," he said to the nearby Ravenclaws. One had to keep manners during times like these. He then crawled up on top of the sofa and shoved his hand between the cushion, rear sticking up high in the air as his arm searched the depths of the sofa. |
SPOILER!!: Airey Nigel was lounging about in the common room. He had just started play a simple tune on his guitar. When the Professsor Flamsteed came into the common room. Well that is a little weird. He was not our head of house and it seemed that he was looking for something Probably money by the way he was tearing through the cushions. Nigel did not want to burst his hopes for finding any money. Which there weren't. Since Ravenclaws take care of their money. Nigel looks around to see who else was in the room. He spots Mo, Benjy, and Garrick. Must have been to focused on his guitar. Nigel stopped playing, moves it to the aside, and addresses Professor Flamsteed. "Umm, Professor. Why are you in this common room and not Gryffindors? And If you are looking for money. There is none in the sofa. We clean it out weekly." Sigh, and all he wanted to do was lounge about and play guitar. Not deal with a money seeking Professor. |
She wasn’t paying attention to Professor Flamsteed at first. Nope, she was eyeing up his rock. Yeah that Pebbles was a cute rock. So adorable. So she kind of wanted to have a Pebbles of her own. And his was the best. She did of course glance up from the corner of the room when she heard Nigel talk to the Professor. And shivered a bit. It was like living in an icebox – the school was freezing. She just frowned at the cold, stood up and shuffled over. Because shuffling in slippers caused friction. Yep she was moving to get some heat, which was great. “Hello Professor Flamsteed, where is Pebbles” she beamed at the rock. “Nigel’s right we don’t have any change in the cushions – there might be some lint in there if you want to start a lint fire” she nodded. Cold, she was so cold. |
Quote:
Mission failed. Oh well. "I saw plenty of the Gryffindor common room while I was a student," he mused, plunging his arm deeper into the depths of the couch. Ah, but did weekly mean today? He wasn't going to bother asking because he knew people were being stingy with their knuts these days. AHA! He felt something! Victory written all over his face, he pulled his arm out and revealed..........the Knight to someone's Wizard's Chess set. Frown. That wasn't a coin. "Never know what you might find between the cushions," he grinned back. "Is this yours?" Quote:
SUSPICIOUS! Ravenclaws were clever and knew that he had a phobia for lint which Miss Johanson was CLEARLY trying to exploit right now. Well played Claws, well played, but this man was not going to give in that easily. "Desperate times call for desperate measures," he said, returning his arm back into the couch after having set the chess piece down on the end table besides Pebbles. "Seeing as I currently am coinless and will be suffering once dinner rolls around." Not to mention he needed some extra coins for viewing some of the extracurricular activities coming up as well. "Perhaps I am hoping you all missed a few. Turnstile change is a necessity these days you know." Awkward sideways grin. |
SPOILER!!: Airey "Thanks. Yes. I play a little in my spare time." It seemed that he was comfortable in a room semi-full of claws digging through their couch. Looking for knuts. Even though even Mika told him there was none in the couch. He must really need money right now. Though Nigel did wonder what he would find in the couch. From what he was saying, it seemed that he just happened across the ravenclaw common room and ran out of money. Was plausible, just very unlikely. Was that a look of Victory on Flamsteeds face. Maybe he actually found something. Nigel watched as he pulled a chess piece. Really only a chess piece? Not to exciting. Nigel shakes his head. "No not my piece." His chess set was up-stairs in his dormitory. "Maybe it is Mika's" Nigel did have a couple extra knuts lying around and was willing to give them away. "Professor do you need a couple knuts?" |
Mika just glanced up at Professor Flamsteed and beamed when he said that Pebbles was just on the end table. She was going to go and say hello to his pet rock. Yep. That was so going to happen. When she heard Nigel say the Knight piece could be hers she glanced up and shrugged. "No, not mine - I'm not a Wizard Chess fan" she admitted with a sigh. "Professor - the kitchens aren't locked are they?" She asked with a devious grin on her face. "We could always go downstairs and make a hearty meal and eat in the kitchens"s he offered as she tiptoed closer and closer to the lovely Pebbles. "Hi Pebbles" she beamed at the rock - and even so much as winked at her. |
"You probably don't know her. She goes to another school," Mo rushed out, not at ALL sure he wanted to be talking about his New Year's date in front of other people. Especially not people he didn't know very well. Maybe in theory boys liked to talk about girls with each other, but he felt awkward and clumsy when he did it. Like he was faking, and other people could tell. "It wasn't a proper date, though... we've been friends since forever. That would be... weird, I think." Although he had sort of been considering it a proper date and now he said it wasn't and it diminished it and he hated doing that to poor Cleo. And hi, Benjy. The other boy got a distracted nod. "Professor Airey is digging through our couch. You suppose he's lost his marbles?" |
SPOILER!!: Garrick "Well, they're not green, that's for certain." Green would definitely be unusual. Alien, even. Flushed pinky-red though? Benjy smirked. "Maybe it's just a little warm in here..." Cosy, the Ravenclaw Common Room was not at the moment. Gotcha, Garrick! Ah, how he'd missing having him around. He ran a triumphant hand through his hair, and rested his head against the back of the chair. "This and that. Keeping busy. Doing stuff." The norm. His cousin got a frown at the next bit though. "Thought you'd want a break from me," he said, "Kept mentioning wanting your space over the hols..." That might have been a little pointed, and it wasn't Benjy's fault that literally the whole family had descended on the area, and Great Aunt someone-or-other had gotten HIS bedroom (and managed to make it smell weird). His face brightened a little. "I'm glad to see you back though." And that was the honest truth. SPOILER!!: Mo Benjy gave Mo a nod in reply, noticing his distractedness. Leaning forward in his chair, he tried to see what had caught the guy's attention. "He's lost something, that's for sure..." Such an odd chap, that one. |
Quote:
The world could always use more music, yeah? Oh, wouldn't that be a fun little way to try and raise money? Playing and singing on the streets of Hogsmeade...hmmmmmmmm.... "Well, hopefully someone will claim it or else they will have a very incomplete chess set," he mused as he pulled out something else from between the cushions. Was this.... *SQUINT* ... he didn't know what that was, so banished away by his wand it was. And now he was feeling rather sheepish. Baaaa. "I could indeed, Mr. Barrington, hence the sofa diving" he nodded, arm right back into the couch. Quote:
"Could," he mused. Could, but not something that he really wanted to do. He was just about to return to searching the sofa when he heard a small CLANK noise as the chess piece took a whack at Pebbles. "Woah there Mister," he said while giving the Knight a tap with his wand to immobilize it. "That was rude." SPOILER!!: Mo & Benjy "Not marbles, Mr. Branxton," he said as he partially overheard the boys' conversation. Calista had lost her marbles. Well, had her marbles stolen as it turned out thanks to those goblins. "I'm looking for turnstile change." Pause for a moment to pick up the chess piece. "This Knight wouldn't happen to belong to either of you, would it?" |
Mo, Benjy, and Airey Garrick listened to Mo ramble on and frowned. Not a proper date? The ballet sounded like a proper date to him. But what did he know? Sighs. "Does she know it wasn't a proper date?" he asked quietly. Poor girl. Mo Branxton should have better manners than that! And out of respect for Lotus he didn't mention HER name as having been the girl he made kissy face with during holidays. Heh. But thinking about her made him blush a little bit. And Benjy. YOu get pointed looks right back. RIGHT BACK. "Right. I was having the fight of the century with the 'rents... who needed letters from normal people." Stink eye and sarcasm. Garrick had it. And it was all for Benjy right now. Until the odd Professor Airey caught his attention. "Marbles was my bet, too." He gave a crooked grin and watched the man even as he spoke. Weird. O. Yep. Shaking his head he conveyed the chess piece wasn't his either... "Professor if you need turnstile money I would gladly give you a few knuts." That was good manners. Respecting your elders and such. Because that dude was old. |
Quote:
It was sticky. Quote:
So the fun was Cleo's doing and not a result of the ballet itself. He watched the cousins banter and had a momentary pang of missing West. The interesting part was realizing that he hadn't missed West in a while, which surely had to be a good sign. |
Airey, Mo and Garrick Benjy shook his head lightly. "'fraid not, Sir," he responded about the knight, still lent forward in his armchair when his elbows resting on his knees. He should practice at Wizard's chess some more. It had been ages since he'd played, and he had rather a nice chess set at home. And at Mo's explanation, Benjy wrinkled his nose some. "Seriously, a peppermint toad? That's a travesty!" They were Ravenclaws, surely they could transfigure something a little more permanent than just using a sticky old peppermint toad? "Do you play?" he asked Mo. It was quite likely he did, given he knew about the missing piece, though he didn't like to assume. Maybe the guy just liked peppermint toads. ...and look at Garrick sucking up to the Professor over there. Benjy rolled his eyes. And then the conversation moved to dates. Benjy had no attention of worrying about one soon. Seemed like too much hassle. There were girls he liked the company of, but just meeting up for ice cream and skateboarding was fine with him. He especially didn't see the appeal of ballet. And so he sat back in his chair quietly, contemplating another ice cream sundae. Maybe he'd even bump into Lex in the kitchens. He was sure the girl would live down there given half a chance. "Oh, I'm normal now?" he said, being drawn back into the real world by Garrick's glares. Well that was different. His face softened a little. "I'm sorry you were stuck in an argument though. What were the requisites of you coming back?" With all the fuss caused, he was sure his uncle would have put measures in place. Especially since Benjy had already gone back. |
