History of Magic II

Today is your final History of Magic lesson with Professor Vinteren and the classroom looks the same as it did for the first History of Magic lesson: clean, tidy, and dust-free. Desks are polished and arranged in neat rows with a large centre aisle for easy entry and exit. Chalkboards at the front of the room are clean, blank, and ready for note-taking. As usual, the professor's desk in the front corner is void of any clutter.

The professor himself is not yet in the room, but he expects you will know to take a seat and prepare yourself for class. It is due begin shortly.

Class Progression:
1. Class starting / Question: What do you know about house elves?
2. Question: (same as above) & does anyone have a house elf?
3. Question: Where are Hogwarts' house elves now?
4. List of house elf characteristics / List of theories
5. Response to theories / in-class assignment
6. List of house elves

She was HERE!!

Present and early and panting from running down every flight of stairs between here and her Common Room. Had to be here on time and READY to learn because this was Mr. Vinteren's Class. That made all the difference in the world.

Lex looked around the room--....

.....

........

Where was Mr. Vinteren? How strange. You think he'd be in the class he was meant to be teaching. This was the laaaaast one. He HAD to be coming. Lex took her seat at the front of the room (this was the only seat for her...unless he stood to the back of the class this lesson in which case she was switching seats, nuff said). Now to wait...?

This guy was a jerk.

Not in the ATTRACTIVE and ENDEARING way that Ascanius was (smirky smirk); no, the kind of way where if he were back home in Essex this guy would be walking around with two black eyes EVERY DAY. Shifty bloke and an annoying one too. He didn't speak proper English either. Annoying all around.

So he walked into this class with a GLARE on his face. See this glare? It was for this class.

And then, he didn't see a Professor so he just sat down. Annoyed and NOT wanting to be here mode activated.

With a small smile Nessie walked along the first floor corridor until she entered the HoM classroom. She was one of the first ones there, but didn't mind, she expected to be early considering she had left her dorm early too.

So Professor Vinteren. He wasn't in the classroom. Hmmmmm. Professors, telling you to be class on time and then they weren't even there. A bit not fair in Nessie's opinion, but hey she liked Vinteren. He was kind to her the first time they met, he wasn't bad looking for his age and she wasn't aware of anything too bad about him. His lessons were pretty alright too.

Taking a seat near the front, the red head's smile switched to a pout as she began to think of where the Professor could be now.

Kace made his way to History of Magic. He got to the classroom and noticed the desks and chairs were clean and polished like normal. He wondered if the Professor had like an OCD to keep his classroom clean. He probably did most likely.

As he looked around the room, he noticed the Professor wasn't even there yet. Hmm....being the Professor and all shouldn't you be in the classroom in-case things go wrong? Ah well...he will learn from his mistakes possibly.

He saw Alexa there and smiled at her and waved. Then he sat down in his seat...waiting awkwardly for the lesson to being. But wait he forgot he brought his doodle book to draw in. Kace you are a genius! He took it out from his bag and began to scribble with his quill.

Last lesson with the Father of the Silver Hippogriffs.

Beezus already had her eyes (behind the frames of her glasses) squinted even before she stepped inside the classroom, ready to give shifty!Professor some looks. She knew that she and her peers were unified in thinking that Professor Vinteren is very mysterious....so he would deserve the looks.

Unfortunately, she had to discard all the squinting for when she got in, there was no Professor in sight just yet. Crossing her arms, she threw his desk a furtive glance before she moved over to take a seat herself. Where could he be.....and what could they be having for class today?

Dementors galore, perhaps?

AlwaysSnapesGirl 07-21-2013 04:39 PM

Meh, History of Magic. Penelope hoped this lesson at least would be better and not talking about how and where people died because she didn't find that interesting at all. So if this lesson wasn't interesting, this subject was staying down on her least favorites list.

And the professor wasn't here, so she just took a seat, hoping the lesson would start soon. Sooner it started, the sooner it would be over, yeah?

Minerva bounced into class. This was Professor AWESOME's class. He was awesome, because he saved their lives and stuff. Plus he was wasn't Scabs and that just made him even more awesome! As she bounded in the door she looked around. Hmmm he wasn't here, well okay than. She turned and faced the class. "ALEXA.... HI... Dylan... Hello... NESS.. KACE!!!" She smiled at her bladgers... "Hi Beezus.. Hey Penolope" Was that everyone so far...

She went straight for her front row seat that she always liked to have and started pulling out her things. She wondered what they might be doing today. She hoped he would teach them how to do an amazing patronus like his, but she knew that this wasn't DADA so she figured that was out of the question, but they did have a unique lesson last time, so who knows. He might surprise them.

Entering the class and heading towards a seat in the back, Asher had a giant smile on his face. He was looking forward to the end of the year and having another "last class" meant it was even closer. Not that he didn't love Hogwarts, he was just ready to see his family and play outside all day.

Another added bonus of the last class of the year was the last homework assignment of the year. Plopping down in his chair, Asher took out his parchment and quill to be ready.

Charely Potter 07-21-2013 05:35 PM

Wade entered in for the last History of Magic lesson. His feelings were mixed for Mr. Vinteren. On the one hand, he had quite the unusual feeling of jealousy towards him and his hippogriff patronus, you know, since it was Wade's most favorite creature other than the tiger and he himself still couldn't manage one yet.. But on the other, his respect for him had grown because of his abilities and being able to remain a cool exterior over it.. Whatever. Wade wouldn't brood over it.

He was here in class, and that was all that mattered right now. Wade took his seat after dropping his bag nearby and acknowledging his mates, wondering on the Professor's whereabouts and what they could be learning today. He twiddled his thumbs under his seat while waiting.

History of Magic!

Alec didn't really know how he felt about Vinteren. Or maybe it was more to do with this subject. Because the History Dude had said that his question was good that one time AND he had said that he had done a good job too. Alec had no reason to dislike him so... Shrug. Hopefully they were going to learn about something that was better than death.

...

Ohhhh? He... wasn't here? Quite a few Professors had been doing that this term but they always had awesome entrances afterwards, Knox's entrance being the MOST awesome. She had brought ICE CREAM, after all! He was sure that nothing could top that. Unless Vinteren decided to bring them puppies or something. ... But... Alec... couldn't really see him doing that. It was a shame, really. The sixteen year old REALLY wanted a puppy.

The Hufflepuff grinned at the people in the class already and waved before heading over towards an empty seat and sitting down. His eyes flew over towards the board where... nothing. Not even a word or a smiley face. He took out his things before letting his bag drop to the floor and under his desk.

Now... they just... had to wait?

Nigel liked history and with magic. It was a good combination. But the Professor was not here. So Nigel just walked on over to a desk adn sat down. What else was he suppose to do.

It was basically an empty classroom filling up with his classmates. Hopefully the lesson would be interesting. It was the last History of Magic lesson of the term.

Emzily 07-21-2013 08:37 PM

Theo never really felt excited about History of Magic, but he was in a great mood today. His dodgy tummy had passed, so he put it down to that. It was nice to have a FREEEEEE STOMACH. With a spring in his step, Theo took a seat at the front of the classroom, immediately appreciating how clean it was. It was usually always clean, though, just saying that Theodore appreciated it, yup. The professor wasn't here yet, so Theo thought it was totally okay for some chit-chat.

He sat next to ALEC and smiled. "Morning!"

Maybe HoM would involve ice cream TOO....

... Theo sure hoped so.

Felixir 07-21-2013 08:58 PM

Skip, skip, skippedy-skip.

Tobias was, of course, skipping to History of Magic. One might say it was impossible to skip up the stairs but TOBIAS said DIFFERENT. He had a TECHNIQUE.

And here he was, on time and chipper as ever. Toby briefly scanned the classroom to see who was already there, before skipping to the front of the classroom and taking a seat.

Hm.

There really wasn't much to look at in this classroom. How was a kid supposed to get distracted? Psshhh.

While he waited, Tobias SWUNG his legs energetically back and forth under the desk. SWING SWING SWING.

Uncle Moose 07-21-2013 09:18 PM

Let's get this one done, and over with. Nothing had appealed to Oakey at all this term with History with Magic besides the man who taught it, but only a little. Vinteren could shoot off Patronus after Patronus, and they were Hippogriffs. Nothing said I'm important and you should pay attention to me like crazy good magical ability.

So Oakey came into the class, and greeted....nope, no greeting. The Professor wasn't even in the class. Oakey grabbed a desk near the back, and placed his things beside him on the ground.

LilFox06 07-21-2013 10:38 PM

Anya skipped unto the classroom. Historyyyyy of Magic. She twirled a bracelet absentmindedly on her wrist. It was what she got a few terms ago in this very class. And she just felt in a good mood, so she wore it because it also made her happy.

So she was doubly happy now.

She took a random seat and waited for the lesson to start.

the fastest seeker 07-21-2013 10:52 PM

She might have been bummed at the first lesson because she missed Scabior and all but she decided that she shouldn't. The man probably was having a great life. ALSO! Life shouldn't be wasted with sadness and negative thoughts! From the dungeons to the first floor she headed there like the wind. Because she could! Pffffft. Why not. Huh?

Beaming and smiling she entered the classroom. Hi classmates! WOW! There was a lot of them. The snake stood before the desks and started counting. Counting was boring though. Maybe if she imagine them as ice-cream cones it'd be more fun! YES! Definitely! Hehehe. Some of them did look like cones if you look too much. Giggling to herself she counted walking towards a vacant seat.

She plopped down and started humming. She obviously lost track of counting.

West went into the classroom and glanced around for the professor. No professor yet? And no weirdness. Well. He supposed that meant sitting down and shutting up and getting his things ready?

Seeing as Theo had already sat with Alec, he slipped into the seat next to Nigel and relaxed, waiting for the lesson to start.

Erik Vinteren 07-22-2013 12:50 AM

Erik knew what time his class started. He had just been occupied...with other things...that ran over the time he had allotted to them. But once he was free of his other duties, he jogged into the castle and up to the first floor, not even breaking a sweat as he walked all the way into the History of Magic classroom.

Okay, he was here, they could begin on time still. "Good day, class," the Governor called out as he strolled down the centre of the room and came to a stop at his desk. He turned around, not noticing the leaf stuck to the back of his suit, and leaned against the edge of the desk.

"I trust you all are doing vell..." he eyed their shiny faces, some of which looked exceptionally happy. Heh. "To begin today's lesson, tell me vhat you know, everything you know, about house elves."

Yes, house elves. Those creatures that had been noticeably absent from the kitchens this term. What did they know or think about house elves?

TakemetotheBurrow 07-22-2013 12:55 AM

Ella was here. And quiet. And yeah, just thinking about things. Lots of things. All...the things, actually. She was going to sit with Theo, since he was her usual HoM partner but it seems her boyfriend had taken her place this time. That was okay, though. It was probably good they were patching things up. Mini!beam.

The blonde had settled into the nearest empty seat and had her book open, sitting quietly, when Professor Suspicious entered the room. He had saved Hadley, though, so she was happy about that. She was still watching him, though. Just saying.

House elves? Hm.

"They have very powerful magic, Sir, and they're extremely loyal and obedient. " They are also good cooks. Or well, some are. Yeah. She was hungry, okay.

Expecto-Penguin 07-22-2013 01:00 AM

Kace saw the professor enter the room. He did not really like him at all. Just something about him he couldn't trust. But he was here in the classroom, all ready to learn. He was gonna just get through the lesson and answer the questions.

He heard him move on. So the professor wanted to know about House Elves right? Hmm...what did this little puff know about house elves.

"House Elves are known to work in the kitchens here, they are good cooks, but i know they do not have many rights. For example they do not have the right to speak ill of their masters." Kace nodded. His aunt had one and Kace always found him quite odd. His aunt always hid him from his father. But Kace ran into Twinky one day and he didn't mind him at all. He seemed sweet really...

AlwaysSnapesGirl 07-22-2013 01:00 AM

Oh, there was the professor, so class was starting. Good.

And they were talking about house elves? Interesting. And better than talking about how people died, so Penelope wasn't gonna complain. She had quite a bit of experience with house elves, so this wasn't too hard of a question either, thankfully. Her hand was raised.

"Most of them usually seem to like cooking and cleaning and stuff. They can sometimes get offended if you tell them they shouldn't do it or anything like that." At least, a couple at her grandparents' house had been offended when she'd said that once.

DaniDiNardo 07-22-2013 01:11 AM

There he was! There he was!!!

She wasn't gonna start bouncing in her seat or anything, noooooo, but only because he got right into the lesson so she simply held a grin in place and hoped he noticed. She was at the FRONT, he HAD to notice.

Oh? House elves? She knew lots about them. Nodnodnod. Her hand shot up. "They don't like being tackled to the ground by first years and may resort to crying in order for you to get off of them." She hadn't meant to upset it...it was cute...they should have come with a 'Do Not Pounce' sign--not that she'd have read it or listened to it.

"And they have a strong sense of duty and all that. Like if you tell them to do something they'll stay on task no matter what--so long as they answer to you that is. If they can't get it done they may resort to hurting themselves."

bitsyandtank 07-22-2013 01:16 AM

House elves. He really didn't know much about House Elves. "I know they cook and clean and stuff." Asher thought a bit more. "They also like pudding. Yes, pudding." He really didn't have any idea, but he was thinking about how they were little and when he was little he liked pudding.

Asher listened to a few other students answers and figured he was probably wrong, but at least he tried.

Danielle_Daughn 07-22-2013 01:20 AM

OOH house elves. Mack's grandparents had about five of those that worked on the estate. [b]"Sir, they clean, cook, sew, and do anything you tell them to.. and they never back talk my gran if they do they get in trouble. She got along with the elves wonderfully, they and taught her to cook well them and one of the maids... Mackenzie didn't understand why her grandparents needed both house elves and maids but alas they had both and they weren't very nice to either of them.
