History of Magic I The classroom had been cleaned and tidied in preparation for Erik's first History of Magic lesson, not by the man himself, but by the house elves he had arranged to do it for him. With so few elves still on staff, the trick to getting something cleaned was really just a matter of scheduling. And so he had scheduled a cleaning for his classroom. As a result, all the student desks were polished and dust-free, arranged neatly in rows with a large centre aisle for easy entry and exit. The chalkboards at the front of the room were clean, blank, and ready for note-taking. Even the professor's desk in the front corner was void of any clutter. Student essays and homework would be cluttering it soon anyway. The professor himself, if you wish to call him that, was waiting patiently for the students to arrive. He was perched quietly at the edge of his desk, arms crossed, suit pressed. He flicked open the door of the room with a wave of his wand and then stowed his wand back in its invisible holster. Class would begin shortly. Class Progression: 1. Greetings / Question: What is HoM? Why do we study it? 2. Responses / Question: How do you study HoM? 3. Responses / Question: Do you know (or know of) anyone who has died at Hogwarts? 4. Responses / list of deaths and locations / chance for catch-up 5. Editing the list / Question: How do we know where/how people died? 6. List of how we know where people died / Question: What is Homenum Revelio? 7. Correct answers / Demonstration and practice of Spiritum Revelio 8. Answering questions / moving here 9. Who died in this room? 10. Time to practise the spell. |
Kat knew that Professor Scabior wouldn't be back this term, and the fact that another Board of Governor member has taken the post. She realised that she would never forget those governors anymore, because they were everywhere. Yes, she also noticed that Governors room at the first floor? Ground floor? Whatever, they were here. They're never leaving. Kat didn't know why it sort of bothered. Maybe because the whole campaign last term was something she wasn't interested in? Dunno... but for the meantime, this governor would be her History of Magic professor and not just a governor. Kat gave the man a nod when she arrived. "Hello..." Mister? Sir? Nah. "Professor." Yep, that was it. Professor seemed, you know, better since he was teaching. They called that other BoG woman Professor too, right? Right. Then she went over to take a seat. |
NO she was NOT excited to be headed to History of Magic class, let's not get this twisted or anything, she was merely REALLY HAPPY TO BE GOING TO MR.VINTEREN'S CLASS!!! This was probably the first time Lex had made an active effort to be on time--before time if she could!!! She was actually coming from the kitchen after helping herself to a bowl of ice-cream and now she was BOLTING to the classroom. Taking a rather sharp turn she ran into the hall housing the classroom and practically threw herself into the room BEAMING as she leaned against the closest desk trying to catch her breath. That just now, was a lot of running. Mer-lin! "I'm here! I'm here! Present and not late because I'm early!!!" After looking around she realized how unnecessary that statement was. She was one of the first ones there. "Hello Mr. Vinteren--er...I mean...hello Professor!" Professor Vinteren...? Somehow it didn't have the same ring to it. She plopped down in a seat riiiiiiight there at the front, got out her things and WAITED TO BE AMAZED. |
Jory entered the History of Magic classroom expecting it to be all dirty. But to his surprise, it was quite clean. Everything was. The desks, the board and everything else. "Oh, Good day, er, Professor,'' Jory greeted the man who was sitting on the desk. Well, he was teaching them, right? So it would be okay to call him Professor. The Puffer went off to get himself settled before class began. |
Nigel walked into History of Magic ready to learn some history. Because if you don't learn it. You are apt to repeat it. Or at least that is what his uncle thinks. Nigel thought he needed a little more experience before he decided to believe whether he is right or not. "Hello, Professor" Now to find a nice desk to take notes on. |
History of Magic. This was going to be really weird without Scabior, wasn't it? The blonde was surprised by how down she felt about the whole thing. She sort of owed Scabior for not offing her and Theo when they used a rocket in class, yeah? Oh and she'd learned tons from him. That too. Shrug. Maybe Vinteren would be just as good. ...She was still suspicious of him, though. Just saying. "Hello Sir," She greeted with a small smile as she entered the room. The blonde then took a seat towards the middle like she had in years past and waited quietly for class to begin. |
Sky walked into the History of Magic classroom and immediately breathed a sigh of relief. Everything was CLEAN. The air even smelled clean and dust free, if such a thing was possible. Which meant that she was approaching this class with the first actual smile that she had smiled for awhile. Obviously someone was able to get that stupid elf away from the gross abominations to cooking it was creating. Anyway, she greeted the BOG guy-turned-professor with a "Hello, Professor Vinteren," and found herself a seat near the front, placing her bag by her feet after pulling out her textbook, notebook and pen. Ready..... |
History of Magic. The worst subject she was learning right now, at least, in her opinion. It just didn't .. intrigue her like the other subjects did. No matter; she still learnt and was still required to attend. Might as well make the most of it and it wasn't that bad. Full of history and fact and magic and theory and FUN. If you were into that sort of thing. Fact is, she just had to suck it up. As Bliss entered the classroom, she was struck by the sense of CLEAN in the room. The desks, windows, everything looked shiny, which was a pleasant surprise, especially as the rest of the castle was basically a shambles. Good going, teacher person. BEAM. She walked in, much perkier than she had been before and aimed her grin at the man sat at the very front of the classroom. "Good day, sir," she said, unsure whether 'Professor' was the correct term, because he wasn't exactly a teacher at all, was her? Maybe he was .. that would explain why he was here. Logic, Bliss. Use it. |
It felt weird to not have Scabior here, and even though he was a little scary, Theo kinda liked him. He strolled into the classroom and was very pleased to see how clean and tidy the place was. Props to the new guy already. "Hi, sir." He said with a nod, then took a seat near the middle of the room next to Ella. Seemed silly to swap History of Magic partners now. He smiled at her, then smiled at the front of the class. Lovely. Yup. |
Kace was interested in History of Magic. He was quite keen about what he was going to learn. As he entered the room he noticed students were already there. He thought he was going to be the first one there, which is why he took a longer route. As he went into the classroom he noticed it was clean. Hmm....the first classroom he came in, in which it was tidied up. He liked it. As he made his way to his desk, he noticed the professor in his suit. "Hello Professor, nice suit." he said and nodded towards the suit. Then he took his seat, got out his notebook and quill and waited silently for the lesson to begin. |
Wade went to his first History of Magic class of the year. He had not intended on continuing this course after his grade.. But since he had generously received the required books for it, already. Yeah, thanks Dad.. He might as well improve on the subject. History went in hand with Ancient Runes, yeah? Hmm.. Wade had known this Governor, well, now Professor, for outbidding him during last year's auction.. Well, he wasn't going to hold that against him any longer. "Hello," Mr. Vinteren was a Professor to him now, and not a greedy rich man. "Professor." Wade gave him a respectable smile, before he went to claim a seat before letting his bag fall to the floor by his feet. |
Minerva walked to the History of Magic class happier then she usual went to this class. Why was she so happy, well she knew why. The first history of magic class without Scabs. That made things a little better at least. As she walked into the room she noticed the new professor and smiled, "Hello Sir" Then she turned, there were a few students already there, but she made her way to a front desk. Sitting down she pulled out her things to be ready for when class started, let's see how this one does.. |
Most students thought that History of Magic was boring, but funnily enough Michael thought the opposite. History, as far as he was concerned was rather fascinating. He stepped inside the classroom and his gaze immediately fell on the man who was going to be teaching this class and Michael's immediate thought was that this man looked totally cool. "Hello Sir." He said giving the man a nod before turning on his heel and finding a seat near the front. Thankfully this classroom was clean, so hopefully that meant they wouldn't be learning on how to clean things or how people used to clean things in the olden days. |
What. A. Butter. Face. Did no one else see it or was it just him? Pfft. This Professor guy just exuded a whole lotta stupid. He should work on that, yeah? Then again he did seem as old as... well... old. So he supposed it was a well practiced habit, this guy's essence of stupid. Yeah, no. Ascanius was NOT going to enjoy this class. Mostly 'cause it was a guy who taught it. At least female Professors were easy on the eyes and kept him interested in LOOKING at them so not to fall asleep. This guy, like the rest of the duddy male Professors he had run into at this school, brought nothing to the table. So with a bored expression, he walked into the room and nodded, "Professor." Yeah, he was going to his seat. |
So. History of Magic. Penelope had never particularly cared for this subject, partly because she hadn't always liked Professor Scabior, but she'd gotten used to him over the years. And she'd never thought he would leave. But then he had, and they had someone new this year. And Penelope wasn't sure what to think of it. Still, she managed a small polite smile as she entered the classroom and greeted Mr. Vinteren. "Hi, Professor." Then she sat down at a random desk and waited for the lesson to start. |
It was tidy in here, and Mo heartily approved of tidy. He eyed the board and the desk and the professor, all receiving a little nod that said 'yup, I get that' before he moved on to the next. This was how one kept a classroom clean, wasn't it? It didnt' mean the man knew History from Herbology, but his room was TIDY. Mo took a seat before nodding at the professor. "Hullo, Professor. I like your tie. D'you know how to do any other knots?" Because Flamsteed DID. Maybe they could have lessons. |
Ohh, look at that! A sparkling clean classroom! Sophie smiled as she entered and eyed their new professor. "Hello!" She greeted him and went to take a seat. She had no idea what to expect from this lesson from now on. This Hufflepuff had never enjoyed History of Magic, to be honest, but maybe things could change with a new teacher? ....Not that she was really expecting it to become more interesting, because there weren't many spells involved in the lessons, but who knew? |
Class has now started; please do not announce your late arrival. Thank you. Quote:

"Alexa," he gave her a nod, and, "you may call me Mister Vinteren, if you vish. Professor's just a title." And one he wasn't sure he had a right to, at that. Quote:

"Hello Miss." He returned her greeting politely. Shame Carter hadn't made it on the Board, despite all her efforts. Quote:

Quote:
"Thank you," he replied to the boy, with just a touch of surprise in his tone. He glanced down at his own suit and then to his watch. Nearly time to begin, then. Quote:
"Good day." Quote:

"Student." Erik returned his greeting, not at all mocking him. Quote:
Quote:
"Hello. Thank you," he replied politely to the first two questions, his hand absentmindedly adjusting said tie when Branxton brought it up. "I do. I know many knots, most used in sailing." And that was all he had to say about that. "Thank you for coming to class," Erik added, as a way of cutting that conversation short. Quote:
He pushed off from the desk and waved his wand at the doors, removing it from his holster and stowing it away in one very smooth motion, and then coming forward toward the desks while the doors closed with an ominous thud. "Hello and velcome to History of Magic," Erik started promptly. "Before we begin, I vould like to introduce myself." He gave the students a thin smile. "My name is Vinteren, Erik Vinteren. I am not a professor, but you may address me as either 'Mister Vinteren,' or 'Professor Vinteren,' out ov respect. I am currently serving vhe Hogwarts Board of Governors and took vhis post as a favour to your Headmistress." Who was rather short-staffed and frantic at the time, though he didn't add that bit aloud. "Since I am still new to vhe castle," Erik continued, "if you vould kindly take out a sheet of parchment and fold it in halv to make a nametag for yourself, I vould be most grateful." And it would certainly help him to address them all by the proper names. "While you are doing vhat, you may also raise your hand and answer vhe question, Vhat is History of Magic? Vhat do ve study in vhis class, and vhy?" As soon as he said that, the questions appeared on the board beside him so that students who might have been better at reading than listening could remember what had been asked. And Erik started looking for hands, to call on people, because he was most interested in their responses. |
She was allowed to call him Mister but there was more respect in Professor? Professor it was!!! Or well...just in classes because she still preferred Mister Vinteren. It suited him more, gave him that edge. Professor didn't sound very intimidating Throughout his introduction she hung on to every word, even though she knew it all already. It was one of those just because things, you know??? Name tags!!! Lex grabbed for a piece of parchment and began scribbling. Quote:
On to the question. She stuck her hand up and had it waving around until she was acknowledged. "It's the study of history--the magic kind though and we cover things that have happened in the magic community through the years, focusing on important dates through our history and important people who had some effect on the magic community." It was possibly the worst subject she'd ever had to sit through as well but she wouldn't add that part because Vinteren. |
Text Cut: Vinteren .............. So he was the Vinteren guy. Okay. Kat noted that, since she didn't catch most of the Board of Governors candidates last term... but she remembered him. The one with the accent just like Professor Christiansen. Oh... may he rest in peace. Anyway time for class. Kat listened to the introduction and the nametag. Oh... okay. Kat took out a parchment and folded it in half and wrote her name on it. Quote:

Amelia was sitting there with a confused look on her face as she listened to Professor Vinteren ask them about history of magic. She was going to have to pay close attention right? Very close attention. So she took out a piece of parchment and folded it up before scribbling her name as neatly as possible. THERE, she hoped that was good right? She did want to do well with this class - and hopefully he was a little less intimidating than Professor Scabior. Who was devastatingly scary at times. Quote:
Raising her hand she spoke. "Professor Vinteren we learn about the History of Magic so that we can know what has happened before us and what has brought us to this point with these customs. Learning our history is a way to learn from our misgivings as well as our good choices and well, luck." She fiddled with her quill in her hand as she sat there. |
Welp, that was expected. The name tag, the question and the flash of recognition during the greeting. But, he seemed nicer than that Knox woman. So that was a plus. Sky quickly ripped a piece of paper out of her notebook and jotted down her name and nothing else, since hadn't asked for anything else and both her house and the fact that she was one of the upper years was rather obvious. She folded the paper in half and used the spell that would turn it into one of those nice nameplates. Quote:
|
Accents were funny. That was what Alexia decided in her first HOM class. After all their HOM teacher, Professor Vinteren had a huge accent. And she thought it was very interesting and a bit funny. Now they had to make a nametag and say what they learned in HOM. But Alexia had never been to Hogwarts so she had no idea. She could at least make something up using the name. But first the nametag. Quote:
|
SPOILER!!: Prof Greeting So he wanted them to make a name tag? That should be easy enough. He wrote it on his paper and made it stand up without magic. Quote:
Well Kace had one answer and tried his best. "Well professor i think we study it to prevent a repeat of what happened back in the past. We learn about the history to prevent mistakes." |
Pulling out SEVERAL pieces of parchment and her quill Mack went to work making her name tag. She made sure to use her best hand writing as this would be the professor's first impression of them. Quote:
Raising her hand she answered the professor's question "Sir, History of Magic is learning about our past, where we as a whole come from, what has happened in our past is what will carve out our future. We learn about it so that we understand exactly what it is to be a witch or wizard and know where our race, if you will, has evolved from." She looked around at the other students, sure her response was a bit elaborate but he asked what history of magic was.. and she had answered. Besides it couldn't help to make a good impression on the new professor. |
