The Lions, who placed second in Gobstones, third in the House Cup, and fourth in the Quidditch Cup last term, usually sit under a bright crimson and gold banner representing their house. As you take your seat at your House table today, however, you might notice a bit of fraying and wear and tear on the usually pristine banner. Hmm. It looks old.
If you're the type who pays attention to dishes, you might also notice that the place settings seem different than those of last term. Is it just you, or are those Dixie plates, Solo cups, and plastic silverware??? What in Merlin's beard...!?!
Zyanya had finished her dinner and had been sitting simply at her table. She looked over at the Gryffindor table and spotted her sister. She could also see Nats and Fro around. She decided to go say hello. They had invited her already. So she walked over to the Lions' table and upto her sister who was deep in talk with her housemates.
"Hello there, sis!" She said smiling.
"Hi, Nats! Good to see you again. Its sad that you get to be together and I have to be alone." Zyanya said to the girl smiling. "So all set? I mean are you still nervous?" Atleast Natasha didn't have to be alone. So she guessed the girl might feel better.
Zyanya saw Fro nearby and waved to her. "Hello! Enjoying the feast?" She asked though it was probably a lousy thing to ask. "How's your cat Iris?" She said smiling. She really liked that cat.
Zyanya sighed seeing the three of them together. She couldn't but feel jealous. It was not fair that they got to be in the same house and she alone in a different one. But there was nothing she could do about it now. She loved being in Ravenclaw but just not alone.
He was getting the right idea. "Yeah, once you hear there'll be a feast know there's a catch and you won't actually be eating 'til everything else is taken care of." It kinda made the sound of a feast less appealing if you asked her. She could get more by just walking down to the kitchen. No waiting. Just elves and food.
"The Professor's really good at what she does! Her name's Professor Romanos, you should remember that." Nod. "She's kinda careful though, like, we were meant to learn a hex that could take your fingers off but she didn't want us practising that on each other," though she could think of a few that she had really wanted to try it out on, "so we had to learn...a...um...nicer version of it I guess. I went looking for the actual hex though." What else was she to do? Not learn the correct incantation and such? No way. She wanted to be able to use it one day.
And he'd already heard about Lafay? Either he did his research or his parents made sure he was well prepared.
"I wouldn't say...bad, just, real interesting." If you wanted bad, go knock on Professor Scabior's office door. Oh but wait, he wasn't here anymore, was he? "She's definitely not someone to mess with, once she told me that if I blew up my cauldron she'd kill me." And she wasn't exaggerating either. She'd ask and the woman confirmed it. "What have you heard about her??"
Alexa sure knew her stuff. It might be a good idea if he kinda stuck with her, for a little while at least until he got settled and knew what he was doing. He nodded his head at her. "Got it." He made a mental note that everytime there were speeches to be made that he should have some food handy.
Professor Romanos, he would have to remember that name so that when he wrote to his parents, he could tell them. His mother particularly was rather interested in who was teaching them DADA. Sigh. He hoped that she wasn't going to embarrass him. "Isn't that the best way to learn though? By practicing on each other? My mum says the best way to learn about hexes and curses is to know what they feel like." And he had felt a couple of them.
Michael gave Alexa a small secretive smile before quickly dropping it and giving off an air of nonchalance. "A few things. Fire seemed to be involved."

And he was starting to lecture her now. She was becoming skeptical. Very Claw idea. "Right..I'll take advantage or whatever..." she trailed. She'll try and speak to some.
Good, lets all turn the topic and focus on how not to lecture me. "Potions" she said, promptly. The subject had always fascinated her. With her father always busy brewing different ones and her being his "little miss assistant" she had always loved the subtle art. "Hmm..and DADA too, I think" she added. Yes, she would love that subject too. "What about you..?" she asked. Now this was nice wasn't it? Little heat and more talk. Good.
He grinned back at her and was actually glad that she didn't get upset by his comments and that she was actually starting to accept the house she had been put into. "Of course you'll be fine anywhere." Nod. Nod. He knew these things. Well no he didn't but it sounded good.
"My dad owns a potions factory." Well it was a little more sophisticated than that, but hey, he was eleven and he knew it as a factory. He had been to work with his dad on many occasions and yes he did find it fascinating, he wouldn't say that he was looking forward to that class the most. Maybe because he already seen how that all worked before. "I can't wait for DADA too. Also Charms and Transfiguration." Any class that he could use his wand basically.
"Do you know any magic yet?"

Sarah felt bad for muggles that had to do it all mechanically. If her father was unable to use his wand, their car would always be at the mechanic. “Do you ever go under the car and look up?” that is what she saw the mechanics do at the car place, yet Sarah was not very into race cars so she never knew much about them. Maybe their engine was not in the front? All she knew that race cars were loud, really loud.
Er...a rainbow family? Okay then. Michael didn't know what to say to that so he decided not to say anything, but he didn't have to because Sarah was asking him about cars.
He nodded enthusiastically. "Yep. My mum and I even built one from scratch." So that pretty much answered her question about getting under the car but in case she didn't know that. "Oh yeah. I know how to drain the oil and change the filter. I've put an exhaust system together and changed a carburetor." She probably had no idea what he was talking about so he stopped and gave her a sheepish look.
"What hobbies do you have?"

The boy was introducing himself now, though, so Jake tuned back in in time to catch his name. "Pleasure, Michael. I'm Jake Keller."
"I guess I better remember that, huh?" What with him being the Prefect and all. It wouldn't be good to yell out 'hey you' when he wanted the guy's attention. "It's good to meet you too."

"Did you actually eat anything from this?" she asked, eying her twin.

Good, now this is how a conversation should be. "Oh yes... you should really try career counseling, you know" she said, with a wink. Michael was just talking, she wasn't sure if he was all prepared or natural. Some people were naturally prepared. Was am I even thinking?
Her train of thoughts broke. "Potions factory?" she asked, suddenly interested. Now, she instantly liked the guy. "MY DAD MAKES POTIONS TOOO!" she said, rather excitedly. "Though he doesn't exactly own a factory" she added. "He takes special orders.." she paused. "..and makes potions for the big shops, you know, for the market?" That was quiet clear, right?
"SO! Have you been to you're dad's factory?" she asked. She wanted to know how it was. "We have a large basement, dad makes the potions there" NO factory. How could it be different? "Do people work there?" Maybe workers?
Magic. Yes, yes. She lowered her voice. Why did she now? Uh, instinct? "Yeah.. mum taught me some" she said, with a glimmer in her eyes. "A little few spells... healing and duelling...incase.." pause "I..uhm, got into trouble" she said. "I get into trouble" Yeah, she did. "A lot" she added. And she had also strictly instructed her not to use it whilst she wasn't there. Not to mention the truth-telling charm. Ravenclaws, Duh! "My mum was a Claw" she informed the guy. "Thought it was good to know a few" Not my suggestion.
"And there is this cool book...." she looked around. She wasn't sure if they could have books other than school ones. "..full of great spells!" she looked at him, excited. "I'll show you when we get to the common room" Yesh, she'll show him. He was being nice and she will be, too.

'THEY'RE FATTENING US UP SO THEY CAN EAT US!! THAT'S WHAT THE WITCH DID IN HANSEL AND GRETEL." Ahh the imagination of an eleven year old.
Alarmed. She turned towards the shouting Michael.
"WHAT?" she yelled too. One yells and you yell back to match the decibel level. Yes? NO?
"The witch from Hansel and Gretel?!" She knew about that one. Courtesy: Mum, mum, mum!
That was odd. Why would they feed only ice-cream. Surely there were more fat-inducing food. But maybe... "They could give us something other than ice-creams for that!"
"OH MY GOD! MAYBE THEY'RE DOING AN EXPERIMENT..!"
Yes, that would be it.
""AND WE'RE THE SUBJECTS!"
"DONT TOUCH THE FOOD!"
She had done it! She had done it! She had solved the ultimate Hogwarts problem. Heh.
Alexa was considering everything Melanie said. Patience and the fact that they would feed them soon. Well, she was right about that. There was the speech and believe me she was listening reaaaaally good, that's how she heard all the bad stuff. She kept quiet because Melanie was listening too and she didn't want to make her miss out on anything really. No one should have missed this. This. This was depressing.
Finally, after several sporkfuls of ice-cream, she found her voice again. "I could have? Neat! Does that offer still stand for next summer??" She didn't know what would happen once school gave break for the summer again but she wanted to be prepared. Last summer wouldn't happen again. Not if she had anything to do with it!! "Did they have candy at your work?" That was an important question. To her anyway.
Oh! Oh! Oh! "They had open mic too??? Did you participate?? You know you can sing really well!" She's heard the girl sing and even heard her humming too. It sounded legit. "Did everyone at your job join? Like even the boss too??" She imagined that would have actually been hilarious. Also. "Um...aren't you going to eat anything? The food might not be good but the ice-cream's delicious!" And to prove it she eat another sporkful.
Melanie sort of wished that Alexa would've said something during the Headmistress' speech because she wasn't very fond of what the lady in charge of the school was saying. She refused to believe that the house elves had simply resigned. Her face paled at the thought. What had happened to the poor creatures? Did they pack enough food for their journey? Were they safe? Where were they residing. So many questions were coming to mind and she wasn't quite sure how she was feeling other than worried and hungry. That happy glow of being back at Hogwarts had faded. She would very much like to be back on the train going home.
But then Alexa was speaking and Melanie was still staring at the "food" with a blank stare. She shook her head, shaking away the thoughts and directed her attention to the third year. "Of course, I'd love to have you around. My grandmother would love it too. She quite enjoys feeding people," Melanie said with a smile. And she wanted her grandmother there right now to make her something delicious but Melanie would have to endure. After this... she had ramen in her trunk. She'd just go down to the kitchens and make it. "I worked at a restaurant, not a candy shop," Melanie pointed out. There was probably candy somewhere but Melanie wasn't quite sure where. "We have a lot of yummy desserts though?" she offered. Which was just as good, if not better, than candy.
"My cousin took me to these cafes with open mic nights, it wasn't at work," Melanie said shaking her head. Though it was funny because sometimes she did run into a few of her coworkers at those cafes. It was quite amusing really, and nice. They usually bought food and she liked food. So did her elder cousin. Or her cousin just liked the guys. It was probably the latter. "But I did participate... it's a wonderful feeling... being up there and having people applaud afterwards," Melanie said, giving a little longing sigh at the end. One day... it'd be her job to do that... not be a waitress.
Right. Food. "Uhm... I lost my appetite, but I'll eat something in the dorms. I brought noodles," Melanie said, giving the girl a little smile. So she'd simply have to wait. Because ice cream wasn't a proper dinner. "But you enjoy the ice cream and make sure you don't get brain freeze or cavities," she added. And if Alexa wanted, she could eat Melanie's share too.

She considered the girl's statement. "Okay" she mumbled. "Ehm, you can be my friend" And she passed a cup-cake lying on the table to the older girl. That's set then now. Can we move away from Gryffindor talk? The older girl looked too gentle and Amara was afraid she would break at her touch.
She nodded. Yes. "Something did happen" she commented. And it was always making the best out of things with the lions, wasn't it? Seconds later, the food appeared. Amara's eyes widened. "What kind of joke is this?" she asked the older girl. Hogwarts food was supposed to be very good. That's what dad told her.
Oh... friends from other houses and schools? That was cool. Given, Melanie had friends from another school too but that was only because she had once attended Salem before transferring over to Hogwarts. Now that she was thinking about it some more, she wasn't quite sure why she had wanted to even transfer to Hogwarts anymore. But she was here so she supposed she'd just stick with it. "That's lovely," Melanie found herself saying in response to the whole friend thing. She didn't say it the way people did when they were bitter and didn't mean it though because she did mean it. She had a smile on her face and everything to prove it. And Amara was saying how they could be friends. That made Melanie grin. "Of course, I can, if you want me to," Melanie said, taking the cupcake. Awwwwh... wasn't the ickle firstie cute?! The first year had given her a cupcake. "Thank you," Melanie said, taking a bite of the sweet.
Such a cute firstie... After the Headmistress' speech and the food appeared, Melanie wasn't sure what to say in response to Amara's question. What type of joke was this? Weren't jokes supposed to be funny? Because Melanie didn't find this very funny. "I think... it's because we only have one house elf in the school now," Melanie mumbled quietly. "It's usually not like this, I promise, but if you're hungry afterwards, I'll go make us some noodles back in the dormitories, okay?" she said, looking at the younger girl. Because this wasn't going to fill anyone's tummy up. At least, Melanie didn't think it was.

As she continued to stare at the food, Melanie heard a boy shouting something and that pulled out from her thoughts. What...? She turned and looked for the source of the voice. Oh, it was one of the recently sorted firsties. She found the boy's thoughts a bit amusing and shook her head, trying her best not to laugh. She may have giggled but only because it was amusing.
"I don't think that's really it," Melanie called out to the younger lion. She also had a feeling that the professors didn't want to eat humans... and the remaining house elf probably wouldn't do that to them either. "I think they just don't know what to feed us with the house elves gone..." Which made Melanie worry about the house elves some more.
Because what if they were hurt? Who would take care of them? Were the elves working for someone else? Oh dear, what if the house elves never came back? What if... the house elves didn't resign but were fired because one of them had tried to eat a person?! Then that would mean that the first year was right, wouldn't it? Hopefully it wasn't because of that though.

She grinned over at him. "Wow, thanks! You remembered!" Because he had promised to get her muggle candy. Strange enough...she had actually forgotten.
Lex NEVER forgot about candy!
"Can you believe what you're hearing?" referring to the speech of course. Speaking of, she should be listening. This was all...
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT????
NO NO NO NO NO!!
Absolutely not! Merlin's beard! Just NO!
They were keeping the same plate for the year?? She couldn't!! Did NO ONE see her kill her star?? She was incapable of keeping anything for too long! Circe knew how she had Felix so long and now cutlery??--- STOP, cutlery she had to wash on her own???
WHAT WAS THIS???
How did they expect her to function? It wasn't her fault they went broke. No one told them not to have money so why did this have to affect her. She was telling her Daddy. Yup. Telling. He would know what to do, maybe get them to make an exception for her. She was always the exception. DUH!
With a scowl firmly stationed on her face she finally looked to the ...er...food...?
She poked around at it, tasted some too and guess what? She preferred ice-cream anyway. Good thing she had those cupcakes and cookies earlier. This wasn't fair, waiting so long, having plastic stuff and then the food was no good. Who's dumb idea was this anyway? She reached across and grabbed a bowl then helped herself to a few spoons. This wouldn't be so bad. She'd have her ice-cream, fall asleep and when she woke up, all this would have been a bad dream. Nothing more. She continued stuffing herself with the ice-cream while making a face at the food. She was not amused.
Ofim was scooping some ice cream into his face as Lex caught the bundle of candy he'd tossed her way. He half smiled at the older girl as she thanked him. He'd have to catch up with her after the feast.
The second year was mostly listening to the speech that was going on. He didn't really care what was being said. Something about lack of good for. He was disappointed that the food sucked this term. It was the ONLY good thing about this place last year.
Well, there was bad food and dumb classes. He guessed he'd have to make friends so he'd not die during this term. Yep, he was going to have to hang out with Lex sometime.

All the elves resigned?? And the cuts were causing them to use these... dishes?? "Congrats to the Deputy,'' he thought automatically. Things were so bad that they had volunteers to teach? The Puffer shook his head. But there was more. They were not to throw away the utensils?! And they had to wash them their selves? Jory stared at the Headmistress. Things were definitely bad. As he looked over at the Hufflepuff table he couldn't help feeling for the new students. Puffs and the others. It was their first time here and they had to face all...this. Hopefully it would work out soon.
Oh! But here was the food! "I'm starved,'' the boy said to Ronnie. As she reached for the chicken, he piled some mashed potatoes onto his Dixie plate. He spooned some into his mouth. "This is gross!'' he said in disgust, spitting it out. Judging by the reaction from Ronnie, the chicken must have been the same.
Jory eyed Ronnie. "I suppose we'll be better off eating ice cream?'' He was definitely not going to eat that bland food. He grabbed one of the bowls and carefully spooned some into his mouth. "At least this tastes pretty good,'' he told Ronnie, in relief. "I guess we're gonna be stuck with this,'' he nodded towards the disgusting things on the table that was supposed to be food, "for the rest of the term.''
She frowned down at her food. "Disgusting." she muttered, shaking her head. But at least the ice cream was good, right? She turned to Jory and nodded. "Yup." she said as she took another bite of ice cream.
She winced at what he next said. Ugh. Really? This would be a pretty lousy last term...unless they were gonna be serving ice cream more. That wouldn't be that bad. She sighed. "Some start of term feast." she said to Jory with a glum look. She had been looking forward to the delicious food alllll summer long! "At least we have ice cream, though."

Watching the girl, she noted that both she and Jake were licking at their ice-cream. "Are you saving your spork so you won't have to get it messy and have to clean it up after?" You know, one less thing to worry about?
Oh and back to the game!! Lex tapped and tried clapping in sync with Anya...but she was kinda failing...miserably...
Anya continued happily licking her ice cream. Mmm... ice cream."Makes sense." she commented. "This ice cream is incredible though. It makes up for how boring that other food looks."
In fact, it made up for a lot of things. Good ice cream had that effect though, right?
In fact, soon enough her cup was forgotten and she'd been fully enjoying her ice cream. "Hmm? Spork?" she asked looking around. "Oh. Right. Yeah. I'd rather not wash it. Plus, ice cream is meant to be licked, right?"
She momentarily looked up and around the table. "Youuuuuu should have some too." she said with a wide grin. She then looked down at her now empty bowl. She licked her lips. "You should also hand me another bowl. I want more." Was she allowed to eat the rest of it? Maybe they'd let her eat the stuff off the other tables too.

She watched as the girls eyes showed her excitement before the rest of her body. Mack was relieved that she wasn't the only one this excited. "Of course! That sounds wonderful!!" she grinned already having a study buddy! She really was looking forward to classes, learning new material and of course quidditch try-outs. She hoped that she could improve upon her flying before then, she didn't get to have nearly as much practice as she wanted over the summer but she knew that she was a fair flier. She wondered if Sonea was going to try-out for Slytherin's quidditch team.. but she decided not to say anything, she didn't want the rivalry to come between their friendship.
Sonea also grinned when Mack wanted to study with her and was happy that she didn’t needed to do it alone. “Thanks! And… Are you good in studying?” Sonea sounded hopefully, she had some problems with her Herbology homework and she hoped secretly that Mack would be good at it and could help her! And if Mack needed her help with something where she was good at then she would help the other girl off course!

Mack giggled at the girl when she asked if she was good with studying "Yes, I'm good at studying." If the girl had only seen the stacks of parchment that Mack had stored from last year, and she knew that this year would only be worse. The blonde sighed, she really needed to go ahead and owl for more parchment for this term.
