Default Gryffindor House Table

by Gideon Gert (Macavity)

The Lions, who placed second in Gobstones, third in the House Cup, and fourth in the Quidditch Cup last term, usually sit under a bright crimson and gold banner representing their house. As you take your seat at your House table today, however, you might notice a bit of fraying and wear and tear on the usually pristine banner. Hmm. It looks old.

If you're the type who pays attention to dishes, you might also notice that the place settings seem different than those of last term. Is it just you, or are those Dixie plates, Solo cups, and plastic silverware??? What in Merlin's beard...!?!

Dating on the first day of school. He's not going to screw this up because Christmas is his very first girlfriend. "Yes and you showing me around and stuff and the library! I love reading." How is he not a geeky Ravenclaw?

That being the case, there was more smirking.

Ding ding ding!

Finally, we have a winner! "That's right, you live with it! You wear the scarlet and gold around like their the best colours you've ever seen and you hold your head extra high so you can see if some tall kid's blocking some form of adventure." Tall people did that. They got in the way. "You'll love this house and the people before you know it." Oh and now she was smiling and introducing herself. "Alexa Cambridge, put her there." She stuck her hand out at her. Shake?
She stared her way through the little prep-talk. And Slytherins just don't respond to too much junk. So much lion pride! And she smirked. Ah, now that would be very lion right now, assuming she didn't get what she wanted.

She wanted to close her ears and save herself from the house pride lecture. Live through this, you girl. Yes. She stiffed her sarcasm filled laugh at the mention of best colors. No, no. Green and silver rule. But she wasn't going to say that to the girl just yet. Nope, not another guest lecture.

"I like the people alright" she commented. Though she didn't exactly know how much on a scale of 1 to 10. Out of scale, maybe? Either way, she never really did have problem with people anywhere. They had problems, not her. She was just so fine. "It's just the house.." she said. "And the revolting colors" she added, with a SMIRK.

She was already starting to like this girl. Too talkative and filled with house-pride, yes. But she was just as smirky as her. Uhm, does that make sense? Point, she liked her. And the girl extended her hand. Huh? "Oh hello, Alexa. I see you love the den" she said, shaking the girl's hand. "Very much" Heh, proud lions. Smirk.

She eyed this separate out-of-world conversation between Nash and huh? She didn't know the other girl though Amara thought she looked pretty. Seated next to her, Nash looked too stunned to speak.

She tapped him gently. "Hello?" she called, waving her hand near his face. "You copy me? Nash?" she called, patting his shoulder.

She eyed the other girl and then smiled a bit. Huh, might as well get to know her.

Laura decided to go and check up on the firstie she had sat in the train with, she found Amara first. "Congratulation on getting into Gryffindor." Laura was sure that Amara would enjoy being in Gryffindor even if it wasn't as a good as being in Hufflepuff. "You know if you ever need anything you can always come and find me right." Laura was hoping Amara wouldn't mind Laura talking to her at the minute, but Laura wanted to congratulate her on being sorted into Gryffindor.

“I am glad we are in the same house.” Natasha said with a smile. She tensed a little as Amara took her hand. She was not used to much physical contact, but if that was what her friend needed, then she was okay with it. “It seems that most of the people I have met are in this house.” She added as an after thought.

Looking around, Natasha could not help but ask. “Where is Zyanya?”

Well, it's what it felt like, anyway.

"How was your summer? How have you been?" she asked. She hoped they could hang out more. She needed more lions close to her age to hang out with.
Max turned and hugged Ronnie back, a smile on his face. It was good to see a familiar face when all the lions he knew continued to graduate. "Hey! I know, i was really busy last term with Animagus stuff and i was gone all summer." Yupp he hadn't seen anyone since king's cross last term.

"Summer was amazing, my dad got me a car for my birthday this year so my girlfriend Elliot and I went on a roadtrip in America, she's never really been. It was great, just the two of us on the road for months...how about you? How was your summer?" he asked hoping that all was well for Ronnie.

Because Anya was just that type of girlfriend.
Distracted, Lex was distracted.

Uh...from across the table she caught sight of Anya...playing with her cup. There was something she never thought of but...what exactly was she doing. Lex leaned forward a bit to get a better look. It seemed kinda fascinating when she got down to it.

Finally, she shifted the cutlery on the table and leaned over the table again. "Er...watch'ya doin'?" She asked, eyes trained on the cup and soaked with curiosity.

Were they flipping cups now?

Now there was something. She liked the people. That was a start. Once she liked the people then the colours and the symbols wouldn't matter very much. She for one loved her fellow lions. They made being in this house even better for her. Yeah better because being in the house was already something to celebrate.

Lex shrugged at her explanation. "The colours aren't that bad. Personally I prefer blue, it's my favourite colour," It was the only colour, but she wouldn't say that, nah, "but when it's time to have some lion pride I push it aside and love all over the scarlett and gold." A thought suddenly hit her. "I wonder how you'll like the Common Room." It was riddled with those colours!

"I do actually! The den is very cozy and lions are fierce. Couldn't have picked a better combination myself." There was another shrug. "Maybe you'll like it too, or maybe you'll suffer through this year, barely making it. Either way you're in the den now too--unless you wanna sleep outside the Common Room at nights. I don't think there'd be a problem...though Professor Bentley might not like it." In fact their Head of House would have been upset just knowing there was a lion who hated her house.

And she was really curious about it...she liked the cups and plates and such that they normally had at the feast. They were shiny and pretttyyy. These on the other hand were just...boring.
"Good,'' Jory responded cheerfully."We don't want a sad Ronnie during the first day of our return.'' But no one would be able to prevent that coming down to the end of the term.

He now turned his attention to the stuff on the Gryffindor table Ronnie was pointing out to him. He had noticed them at Hufflepuff table and was wondering the same thing. The Puffer had forgotten to check the other Tables as he came to this one. He shook his head. "I can't imagine why we have these...'' What could possibly be going on?

"So, looking forward to classes?''

It was strange but she enjoyed being a waitress and talking to customers and the uniform and the people she worked with. And it paid well. Melanie liked that part too.

Melanie had enjoyed her summer too? Good. That was good. Working though? "You worked?" That didn't really sound like a good way to spend summer, but maybe the older Gryffindor had worked at something that was really exciting or something. "Where'd you work? Did you get paid a lot?" That was important too since that was part of working right? Getting money for it.

His name was Sylvester but people called him Sly. Neat. "D'you prefer one over the other?" So she'd know which one she should call him, since either of them was fine with her. Long names didn't bother her. Probably because hers was kinda long too. "I'm Penelope, by the way. You excited to be at Hogwarts?"

Where was Zahra? He did not see her anywhere and he got a little nervous again. His BFF better not have backed out on their deal otherwise they were not going to be BFF's anymore.

"Hello everyone!" He called out as he swung one leg over the bench seat and planted his behind.

He needed food. In all his excitement he had not eaten anything since breakfast and he was now starving. Maybe one of his fellow Lions would have a pre-dinner snack hidden in their pockets.

Oh, this one seemed excited. Or enthusiastic. Both? Maybe both. Or he was just friendly and liked to be loud and say hi to everyone without specifically going up to everyone. Either way, it was cool.

So she grinned and said, "Welcome to Gryffindor, kid."

Merlin!

It was a good thing Lex had thrown quite a lot into the bag otherwise, seeing her fish out so many might have been unnerving. It was all good. The point was to share the food so people wouldn't be starving while they waited. She peered down in the bag...pretty sure there were still plenty...

Then the girl raised an interesting point. "Hmmm...I dunno...guess I never thought of that. Think the house elves might have helped the person. Like...can you actually bribe a house elf." Now THAT was a curious thought, one she'd have to look into.

Yes, food. This was great. Hopefully Alexa was gonna do this every year. If not, Penelope was gonna try to remember to stuff her pockets with treats before leaving the train next term. Because starving while waiting for everyone to get settled and for the Headmistress to give a speech was just not okay. She didn't like being hungry. Never had, never will.

Bribe an elf though? Penelope munched on another cookie as she considered it. "I dunno. Maybe? Not sure what you could bribe one with though. There's not a whole lot that they seem to want." Except for...serving people, oddly enough. It was practically programmed into them or something.

"Yeah, I'm talking to you." Who else looked upset enough for her to ask what was up with them? Nothing was wrong? Really? "Not sure I buy that." Nope. Because typically when people were grumpy and said there was nothing wrong, something was actually wrong, they just didn't want to talk about it. Which was fine with Penelope if the girl didn't want to talk, but she could at least be up front about it in her opinion.

But she was now introducing herself, so the fourth year figured she could do the same. "I'm Penelope."

It was great to be back with everyone, although she was missing the older members of her 'family' like Kurumi, even Selina, yet now there was a new litter in the den.

The charms weren't hard...so why no regular dishes then? Hm. Weird. Oh well. Paper plates and plastic utensils were fine, just not something she was used to at Hogwarts. "Same here." About the fridge thing. Penelope liked that since it had food in it. The kitchen in general was good for her, so maybe she didn't actually stay away from it all that much. She'd even tried a little cooking and baking before after all. And she was TOO bad at it. Not as bad as she COULD be at least. Just needed practice and stuff to get better.

But anyway.

"You have a good summer and everything, Sarah?"

Also. Ascanius Stark. Slytherin.

LOLOLOL.

She was giggling.

Shark bait. Heh. That reminded her of things that had happened over the summer. Heh.

"Definitely." That would be even better actually. If she and Alice teamed up - and Alexa too - they could probably store up enough food to feed the whole Gryffindor table before the feast.

Well...maybe not the whole table considering how she and Alice ate far more than the average student. But...it would be a start.

"Cookie?" She offered one to Alice, even though Alexa probably had also offered some from her bag to the captain. Penelope didn't mind sharing food with Alice.

She'd also had a good one? Great. Penelope was glad to hear so many other people had had good summers too. That was always better than a bad one after all.

The Gryffindor eyed the parchment the Ravenclaw had for a moment, briefly wondering why she had it out because surely there wasn't any homework to do yet, but turned her attention back to her quickly without reading anything. "It was great," she replied with a nod.

You have bewitched me body and soul, And I love- I love- I love you

Mack entered the great hall excitedly making her way to the Gryffindor table. She looked around excitedly to see who she could find. She looked towards the Slytherin table trying to locate Sonea the friend she had made last term, oh and there was also Ronnie to find. She didn't know which direction to go first.

Sonea just looked around her when she spotted a girl she knew. When Sonea looked at the girl she remembered that her name was Mack. She had met her first in the train and they had later spoke with each other in the Diagon Alley. And if Sonea was honest, she liked the girl, even now that she was a Gryffindor and not somebody from her own house. Sonea didn’t hesitated when she waved at the other girl and smiled at her. “Hi, how are you doing?” Asked Sonea when she had walked toward the other girl. She stopped next to the girl and felt if her pink hair Ribbon was still on his place.

Welcome to Gryffindor. That sounded so cool in his head. It sounded even better when it was coming from a...Prefect. Michael noticed the shiny badge the moment he had turned his attention to the boy who was now speaking to him.

"Thank you." He said, that grin still in place. "It seems like a cool house." Should he introduce himself? Was he worthy enough to tell the Prefect his name? Pfft of course he was. "My name's Michael." So...yeah.

Yet my mother is muggle born so it is more interesting, my mother was born in South Africa, her ancestors came there from eastern Europe in the early 1900's, yet I think they lived about 1000 years ago along the Rhine river, so they must have lived in France and Germany at some point, yet that was around the time of the fall of the Roman Empire. Formally we are unable to trace past the 1700's my family tree so all that took place before that is assumed." Sarah had read some history books over the holiday and done some surfing as well. "so where are you from on your mother's side?" she asked
Merlin!!

Michael couldn't help but stare at Sarah, his mouth hanging open just a little. The way she just rattled off her family's history like that. He was really going to have to pay more attention when his parents spoke of where their family came from.

Actually now that he thought about it, his mother didn't really talk about hers. He would have to remember to ask her. And of course Sarah had to ask him about his mother' side. He raised his shoulders in a slow shrug. "Uhm...well my mum was born in England but her mother's background is Italian and my grandfather is English. He's also a muggle. He's a race car mechanic." Nod. "He and my mum let me help fix cars with them."
Now if she wanted to talk about cars then he knew all about them.

How fine it would be. The anti-lion girl slapping one of the pride? Wonderful. I might as well get a month's detention. And she definitely didn't want to spend her first month there doing detentions at the dungeons or grounds or whatever.

Spoiled brat was I? She turned back to him. The boy was giving her a strange look. What was he thinking? Establishing the spoiled brat story.

"I'm-not-a-spoiled-brat" she said, pausing each word. The message had to sink in. She had some opinions and views, that didn't make her a spoiled brat did it? And she hadn't even bargained for this talk. She turned to look at another pleasant direction

She wasn't usually brooding over things. And hey! This wasn't even...and she turned back to face the boy. "I really acted like a spoiled brat?" she asked, piqued. She didn't like spoiled brats and was definitely not planning to be one. Her expressions changed from anger to confusion to regret to miserable faster than the muggle traffic signals.

"I..uhm.." she broke mid-way, cleared her throat. "Didn't mean to..not really.." Why was she feeling bad right now? It was her thing, feeling bad. "I'm fine with all the houses..." Yes, she was. "And no expectations.. My dad is really fine with anything" Yes, he was. "It...Okay. I always wanted to be Slytherin.." Savvy? "Childhood fancy?" she said, hoping that would clear everything.

She was beginning to wonder what she felt now. She really did want to strangle the guy the moment he talked, but now she wasn't willing to do that. Erm, awkward. "Sorry..I mean.. you really like this house" Asked the hat to place you and all. She was being sorry, again not her thing. She really didn't know how she felt about the evening.

The boy shook her hand gently enough. She was thinking he might try and crush her fingers. She gave him a small smile. "Hi Michael.." she said, withdrawing her hand slowly. "Uhm..." What now? So what was this, some kind of friendship? She didn't know. Only it was really messed up, with all those heated moments.
There were a couple of times when Michael wanted to interrupt the girl because in his opinion she was acting like a spoiled brat, but he let keep talking. It seemed as though the more she talked and actually thought about what he had said the more unsure she became.

And then he felt kinda bad for saying that to her, which was not like him. Michael had an opinion about everything and he was not afraid to voice those opinions no matter if the person liked them or not. But seeing the look on her face...well...he felt...bad. "Well okay maybe that was a bit harsh. But you are kinda being ungrateful. So the hat put you in Gryffindor, so what? It obviously had its reasons. Personally I think you'll make a GREAT Gryffindor." She had that hot head, stubborn streak about her.

He supposed that he could understand why she would be disappointed about not getting what she really wanted. "I know it sucks to not get what you want. You're just going to have to turn the situation around to your advantage." Did that make sense? Probably not. He smiled though at her question and nodded his head. "Yeah. I really like this house."

Now that introductions were made, there appeared this awkward pause but he was never one to be at a loss for words. "SO what classes are you looking forward to?"

The Headmistress had a lot to say then but last term, with a good amount of luck, no one got done in and I guess I'm willing to say it didn't last as long. Either way, you spend a lot more time wishing for food than actually eating at these feast." They kind of made up for it though...the food was amazing and they even had ice-cream last term!! She threw just as much of it as she ate. Best ice-cream fight eveeeer.

She shrugged a bit. "No problem. Most times Gryffindors are down in the kitchens anyway so chances are I'd be headed down there on any random day." It was something she'd noticed. Most, if not all the Gryffindors she knew, including herself, were power eaters. They ate the most of any people she'd ever met! It was kinda impressive. Heh.

Oooooo, 'giving advice to Firsties' time! she'd been preparing for this. Like legit, yup. "Well I'd probably say...pay close attention in DADA, you'll need most of the stuff you learn in that class." FACT. Lex was grateful for every jinx, hex and curse she'd learned since coming here. "If you want to eat the sorting hat, gravy won't help, try something else. The whomping willow--this super cool killer tree that you have to meet--can be your best friend or that annoying kid that hits you even when you haven't done anything to him. Socks will disappear by end of term, invest in learning the accio charm." Nodnodnod. "If you see a kneazle walking around, he's looking for a snack, hide anything he might find edible." Felix needed a warning label. She wasn't in the mood to comfort anyone just because her lovely ate someone's pet. Now let's see...what else...?
Oh. Oh yeah. He had forgotten about the end of term feast. He was just trying to get through this one. So apparently he would need to have back up food for the end of term feast as well. "Right. So it's best to make sure that I am stocked up." He could do that. Not that he really needed to. He was a bit like his dad in the fact that he could go for long periods of time without food but there were occasions where she would burn so much energy that he would find himself hungry. Like today. With all the excitement in coming to Hogwarts. The news about people going missing or dying didn't phase Michael at all. His mother told that when she had been at school that three of her housemates had died. Apparently things liked that happened here. Hopefully not to him.

As Alexa spoke of all the things he needed to look out for while at Hogwarts, Michael listened carefully and nodded his head every one in while as she spoke. he already knew about the Whomping Willow and he and Z had plans for that. The bit about DADA interested him and he perked up a little. "What is the DADA Professor like? And is Professor Lafay really as bad as they say?"

"Summer was amazing, my dad got me a car for my birthday this year so my girlfriend Elliot and I went on a roadtrip in America, she's never really been. It was great, just the two of us on the road for months...how about you? How was your summer?" he asked hoping that all was well for Ronnie.
"So that's where you've been!" she said, slowly nodding. She then grinned as he described his summer. Wow, that sure sounded like fun! If only she could do things like that!

She shrugged when he asked how her summer was. "It was really boring." she said. "I pretty much just stayed home...just like every summer." she said with a frown. She actually didn't like summer that much. The only good part was no schoolwork...

The Puffer had forgotten to check the other Tables as he came to this one. He shook his head. "I can't imagine why we have these...'' What could possibly be going on?

"So, looking forward to classes?''
She smiled at what Jory said and gave a small nod. He was right. She should forget about this being her last year, she should just savor every second and be thankful for it! She could get emotional at the end of term feast. Yep.

She nodded again. "Yeah, it's odd. Were they at your table as well?" she asked, turning to look at the other tables to look. It was too hard to see though since there were so many students walking about. She frowned and turned back to Jory.

"Yeah! I sure am." she said. Well, a few classes she wasn't looking forward to of course. "What about you?"

Ronnie looked around and saw Mack walk over to the table. "Oi! Mack!" she called to the girl, waving her hand in the air to get her attention. She had missed the girl ever since they had talked at the fountain. She was super fun to talk to and be around!

That was a good question, actually. Ronnie shrugged. "You know, it could." she said thoughtfully. Perhaps the house elves got lazy...or...went on strike... or wanted to do something different? She had no clue at all. She then shook her head at the first year's next question. "No, never! I honestly have no idea what this about. I wish I did though..." she said, looking at the spork in her hand.

Trying out for Quidditch? Ronnie had wanted to ever since her first year! ...but had never gotten the chance since she was always busy when tryouts came around. But this year she was GOING to try out. No matter what got in her way. "Yup!" she said, nodding eagerly.

Bribe an elf though? Penelope munched on another cookie as she considered it. "I dunno. Maybe? Not sure what you could bribe one with though. There's not a whole lot that they seem to want." Except for...serving people, oddly enough. It was practically programmed into them or something.
That right there, was a good point. House elves just always seemed so happy as they toddled about and if they weren't they were usually hurting themselves for making things not happy. She never understood them really. "Alright, I dunno. They could be on strike." But then she couldn't think of anything that would make them do that either. They were happy to help no matter what.

This was making things extra hard now.

She took a bite of her cookie and thought it over. "Guess the Headmistress will tell us. She usually does that explaining bit anyway." She looked around the Great Hall. The plates were one thing but the place itself was a mess. "You think they might have fired the Caretaker?"

He was getting the right idea. "Yeah, once you hear there'll be a feast know there's a catch and you won't actually be eating 'til everything else is taken care of." It kinda made the sound of a feast less appealing if you asked her. She could get more by just walking down to the kitchen. No waiting. Just elves and food.

"The Professor's really good at what she does! Her name's Professor Romanos, you should remember that." Nod. "She's kinda careful though, like, we were meant to learn a hex that could take your fingers off but she didn't want us practising that on each other," though she could think of a few that she had really wanted to try it out on, "so we had to learn...a...um...nicer version of it I guess. I went looking for the actual hex though." What else was she to do? Not learn the correct incantation and such? No way. She wanted to be able to use it one day.

And he'd already heard about Lafay? Either he did his research or his parents made sure he was well prepared.

"I wouldn't say...bad, just, real interesting." If you wanted bad, go knock on Professor Scabior's office door. Oh but wait, he wasn't here anymore, was he? "She's definitely not someone to mess with, once she told me that if I blew up my cauldron she'd kill me." And she wasn't exaggerating either. She'd ask and the woman confirmed it. "What have you heard about her??"

You never really knew what was going on with Hogwarts, as the current situation proved.

He resumed staring around the rest of the great hall, now deep in thought. But that didn't last long... because there was a taptaptapping right next to him that was very hard to ignore. Blinking, he looked over at Anya. "Um... babe? What are you doing?" Besides being weird. But hey, it was cute. It wasn't like Jake wanted her to stop. He was just curious.

He was also curious as to why a small boy with a very loud voice was yelling at their table.

Jake leaned back slightly to get a good look at the boy, then laughed a little. He'd seen this boy's sorting. He was a first year and brand new lion. Waving a bit to get the boy's attention, Jake spoke up in the best friendly tone he could. "Welcome to Gryffindor." He almost said something about liking to eat in peace, but since there was no food on the tables yet, he supposed that might be a little rude. Plus, the boy was probably just excited and stuff.
Anya shrugged. "Maybe all those debates cost more than they anticipated." she suggested still tapping away on her cup. Which was dumb considering how rich everyone running was. Maybe that's how politics worked though? You had to have money.

What was she doing? Jake. Come on. She was only playing the single greatest game ever. The CUP game!

"The cup game. Have you not heard of it?" she asked in a shocked voice. Seriously. This was a critical point in any childhood. "I can teach you." And by that she meant he was about to learn whether he wanted to or not.

Finally, she shifted the cutlery on the table and leaned over the table again. "Er...watch'ya doin'?" She asked, eyes trained on the cup and soaked with curiosity.

Were they flipping cups now?
Anya was in the middle of flipping her cup when Lex spoke up. "Cup game." she replied without looking up. "Have you heard of it?" Which, honestly, Anya couldn't believe she had to ask. That was soooo obviously what she was doing.

"I can teach you. I'm about to teach Jake." And, without waiting for a response, she leaned over the table and flipped her cup. Yup. You were playing now Lex, whether you wanted to or not.

She chuckled. "Well that's good!" she said with a small nod. She actually had a problem with faces sometimes. She'd mix up names with faces once in a while...but she still knew names and that's all that really mattered. To her, anyway. She then shrugged at Melanie's question. "Eh...it was rather boring. I was home for most of it." she said with a glum look. That was pretty much every summer for her. Meh. She hated it. The only good part was no homework. "What about you?"
Melanie nodded her head in reply, keeping her smile up while her brain wandered. She was getting hungry, fast. The sixth year played with her spork as she listened to Ronnie speak. Spork... spork... fork and spoon... together. Her mind was wandering which was a bit unlike Melanie but there really wasn't much to do in the Great Hall at the moment.

Right. Focus. Conversation.

"But home is nice!" Melanie immediately replied to the home comment. "It's nice to see family that you haven't seen since forever," she added. Melanie missed her parents a lot while at Hogwarts and being able to see them every day over the summer had been wonderful. She loved that part. "I spent my summer working," she replied, beaming from ear to ear. Work had been the highlight of her summer. "It was a lot of fun, it's nice to be back though." Because there were friends here and Melanie liked friends.

She was about to put her bag away, TOTALLY DEJECTED BY THE WAY, but then the girl was asking about the kinds she had.

Eeeep!!

"Well if I'm being honest I really don't know. I found a tray of the stuff and I slipped them into my candy bag, then I found the cupcakes, really just sitting there too so I took them as well." It was only after she said that that she realized how not necessarily nice it sounded and quickly sought to fix that. "But, I'm sure it didn't belong to anyone and it's fine!" BEAM. Then she extended the bag to her.
There were no words coming to mind. Melanie didn't know what to say anymore about Alexa and her little trip down to the kitchen. Lex found a tray... and slipped it into her bag...? She really had no words. Her mouth opened then closed but nothing came out. She was pretty sure Lex had broken a million different rules by going down to the kitchens before the feast.

"Oh... I... uh...." Melanie really was at a loss for words even as the younger lion held the bag out. "Thank you... Lex," she said hesitantly and slowly reaching her hand into the bag. Next time, Melanie was going to bring her own cookies, that way Alexa wouldn't have to sneak down into the kitchens.

Sneaking around was bad.

Clearing her throat and retracting her hand from the bag with a cookie, she looked at Alexa. "Don't do that again, okay?" Melanie said before nibbling on the cookie. She was going to make the cookie last her. And oh look, chocolate chip. How yummy. "So how was summer? How was your train ride?" It was probably best to move away from the stealing taking the cookies from the kitchens topic.

Oh. Amara was such a pretty name.

Melanie smiled, casually ignoring the look the younger girl was giving her. The sixth year wasn't quite sure what the girl's problem was. Maybe Amara missed home; she had missed home quite a bit on the first day of school. Her parents thought it was silly but it wasn't. It was frightening starting in a new place. Except the girl didn't seem to have an issue with starting at a new school. Judging from the question, the girl had an issue with Gryffindor.

"But... why? Gryffindor is a lovely house, it's got a lot of nice people," Melanie said, her head tilting slightly in confusion. "I made loads of friends here, everyone's delightful and often hungry." The hungry part was one hundred percent true. Gryffindors liked to eat food. She was fairly certain they ate more than the other houses combined at times.

Melanie found herself smiling as Sarah recounted her summer. "That sounds wonderful, it must've been so much fun spending time with your family," she said. Melanie was pretty sure every time she started to speak about her own family a stupid, silly grin would come up on her face as she spoke. She loved her family loads. "I had a great summer. It was nice seeing my family again and then there was work. Work was absolutely delightful," she said, beaming.

Dora. The name made Melanie smile because she had been particularly fond of a show growing up. Dora the Explorer. Plus, Melanie had never met a Dora before either.

"My summer was great. Work... I was a waitress at this muggle restaurant. It was a lot of fun there. The customers were nice, my coworkers were nice, my boss was really nice," Melanie rambled. "And then at night, my cousin would take me to these cafes with open mic nights and we'd just sing there." Which had been amazing. Performing in front of people made Melanie feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It was like falling in love, except the feeling never went away and the feeling wouldn't abandon you the way a break up would.

Anyways... "How was your summer?" she asked. "Did you have a lot of fun?"

"Welcome to the Gryffindor table, Dora!" Melanie said, beaming. One of the loveliest tables in the Great Hall. Unless you wanted a good hug, then the Hufflepuff table was best for that. Though there were some pretty good huggers at the Gryffindor table too. She wasn't sure who but there were some.

Melanie shook her head. "They not really weird, they're just different," Melanie said, bending her spork. "I used to use these during lunchtime back in my elementary school... most people just used them to catapult things and start food fights though." Then things got messy. Melanie wasn't fond of messy. "But these cups are really nice, I like plastic cups... they're like mini drums," she said, putting down the spork and reaching for a red cup and turning it over. She tapped it a few times. "And there are songs about cups too."

She liked those songs.

Nodding her head, Melanie played with the plastic spork some more. If she turned over the plate and the cup, it would be like a miniature drum set. She giggled at Penelope's question though. "I did work and I worked around food," Melanie said grinning. And Melanie loved food almost as much as she loved music and her family which was a lot. "I was a waitress in this restaurant over the summer and the pay was fine and tips were nice too. But it's not about the money, it's about the experience and meeting so many new people." And she liked people too. People was probably listed right under food.

Right.

She nodded. "Yeah, that is true..." she said. Although her parents had gone off to work for most of the day so she only saw them for a little bit in the mornings and then at night, so during the day it was really boring. "But being there the whole summer every single summer isn't too fun sometimes." she added with a sigh. Perhaps she needed... more hobbies...

She then raised her eyebrows. "Working, eh? That's cool." she said, smiling. "What were you doing?"

Mack grinned as she saw Sonea come towards her, she was excited that even though they were in different houses they could still be friends. "I'm great! How are you? Excited for this term?" the blonde couldn't believe she was already a second year. She had been ecstatic since she boarded the train at Kings Cross.

Mack's eyes lit up as she saw Ronnie waving at her, she quickly made her way over to the older girl. "Hi Ronnie!" her voice rang full of excitement "How was the rest of your summer?" Mack couldn't contain her happiness, but as she looked around the great hall she saw that she wasn't the only one that was practically bouncing where they stood

She still had her bag of pastries and candy so she could ignore him too.

Lex sat in her seat once more and helped herself to another cupcake. Ignoring was a game she played well, just ask her step-mum. She could pretend he wasn't there and didn't exist too and in fact that was what she was now doing. She didn't even see him looking over at her again.

Her attention was on her cupcake.
She stopped? Yeah? Yeah.

Well, that was unexpectedly easy. Maybe this girl wasn't as bad as he thought she'd be. Anyway, he had nothing more to do here. When the brown haired boy was completely sure that his fellow Gryffindor has completely averted her attention over something else, he took a quick glance at the Ravenclaw table again. OHLOOK.

There she was. Standing up from his seat, he quietly made his way to the other table.

Laura was hoping Amara wouldn't mind Laura talking to her at the minute, but Laura wanted to congratulate her on being sorted into Gryffindor.
There was Laura. She eyed the girl. Congratulation. The last thing she needed was that. But she wasn't going to comment, she didn't want another "How to live with the pride" lecture from her fellow pestering lion. She glanced at Alexa for a moment and turned back to Laura.

"Uhm...th-th-thanks" she managed, with a smile. She didn't want to offend the nice girl. After all Laura was kind. She could do well and return the kindness. She'd had the thought to come and check on her. "Thanks" she repeated. The girl was always ready to help. "OH sure, I know where to go when I'm lost, don't I now?" she said, smiling. Laura was so willing to help her out. She found it amusing. "Hm.. having fun at your table?" Obviously.

Looking around, Natasha could not help but ask. “Where is Zyanya?”
"Count me in" she said, nonchalantly though. She was really glad she had Nats in the same place. It was refreshing to know there was someone who wouldn't advice her to live the pride.

She thought about it. "Yeah.. I saw that..many people to lion" That was Fro, Nats, herself, Michael and Sly. Handful. "Firstie Den again, then" she added, with a grin.

Where was Zyanya? "Uh..she went to the Claws" she informed Nats. "Over there" she pointed to Zyanya, who was talking to some fellow Claws. "She's going to really miss us" she added. Smirk.

"Right, right.. I get it" she cut across the older girl's continued lecture. She was already beginning to feel like a notorious little child being confronted by elders and asked to acknowledge her wrongs. Why was I feeling that?

Common Room? "Erm, why? Is it that....bad?" she asked, doubtful. Suffer through? "NO. Not exactly the suffer-through-odds kind" she informed the girl. "I guess I'll just close my eyes and senses through it" she added. Now that it was somewhat clear she couldn't change her house. And the people where tolerable. So, wouldn't be so bad, would it? "Who is that woman? Bent-ly?" Right, the next thing she wanted was a professor to lecture her.

Nice. Another senior. What was with all these oldies and her? Don't buy it? She nodded. "You don't need to" Not my problem. "Uhm..mane matters" she added, after a thought.

Penelope. Fine. "There was a distant cousin of mine who went by that name" she said. Some conversation? "Which year are you in?" she asked, steering the talk away from the mane matters. Heh.

"Bit harsh?" she asked, with a grin. She was beginning to like this boy. He had this snake in him and it made her smile. "Great lioness, huh?" I really don't care about that. "I can be fine anywhere.." Only when I want to. "..gah, it's okay" She could be good anywhere, only she had to make her mind to do it. She wasn't exactly very pressing about things...but she could adapt anything.

And he was starting to lecture her now. She was becoming skeptical. Very Claw idea. "Right..I'll take advantage or whatever..." she trailed. She'll try and speak to some.

Good, lets all turn the topic and focus on how not to lecture me. "Potions" she said, promptly. The subject had always fascinated her. With her father always busy brewing different ones and her being his "little miss assistant" she had always loved the subtle art. "Hmm..and DADA too, I think" she added. Yes, she would love that subject too. "What about you..?" she asked. Now this was nice wasn't it? Little heat and more talk. Good.

"Yeah, yeah...I already heard all that" she said, nodding her head. Enough on the pride people. Lovely house, uhm. Lovely people. Accepted. But pestering too. Agreed. This one seemed very...unusual. Her creepy look didn't seem to bother her and Amara was amused. She had an out-of-the-world glow about her. "I guess I could make friends..." She knew she could. Unless she stopped being... I'm good, thank you.

Hungry? And the pang struck her too. "Aw, I almost forgot about that" she said. The food wasn't up yet and it seemed many were waiting for it to come. "When does the feast start?" she asked. The senior girl should know right? Then... looking at the funny plates. "What the...?" Wasn't Hogwarts stuff supposed to be grand, pristine..? "Is it always this?" she asked, picking up the plate.

While looking towards Ronnie, Aphrodite took her own spork. "Oh, which year are you on right now, Ronnie?" Aphrodite asked her, she forgot to ask this "and does this have anything to do with Muggles Studies, Ronnie? Zyanya had got what she wanted. Without much problem at that. She turned to spot her twin in the midst of a small group. She was trying to talk to people. She smiled. Atleast one of them got what they wanted. "She'll be fine" she thought aloud.
While looking toward the Ravenclaw table, Aphrodite asked, "How about next time we invite Zyanya to sit with us here, Amara?" maybe if she was with Zyanya, Amara would more happy and would smiling. "You still have me and Nats, Amara," she added with a smile.

Amara looked up. Fro was trying to cheer her up and the thought made Amara smile. "Fro, I'm really fine" she informed the kind girl. She too looked at the Claw table. "Yeah..." she trailed. They could call her, she'll like these cheerful lions more. "I think I just go see her in a few" she said, turning back to Fro. Meet and greet with twin can wait. She had to give Zyanya her space, not go walking toward the Claw table and just blow them all by her awesomeness talk with them all.

Sonea grinned when she nodded to the other girl, "Yes! I'm very excited and can't wait until the school has officially started! I want to learn more and to become one of the best witches ever!" Sonea thought about everything she wanted to learn this year and smiled even wider. She wanted to be the best in everything she did and she wanted that her parents would be proud of her! She also knew that it would be very difficult for her to learn everything she wanted but she had learned from one of the maids at home that if you wanted something really and if you will try you best than you will succeed, and that was exactly what she wanted!

Suddenly she got a idea and looked excited at Mack, "If we have classes together then we can help each other with or homework, if you want!" The young girl really hoped that Mack wanted to sit with her and make her homework together because she needed a motivation to do her best, and doing her homework alone was not a good motivation...

Hogwarts RPG Name:
Sarah Edwards

x8
Default Melanie, Alexa, michael, Aphrodite, Amara, Natasha, Penelope,
Gryffinclaw-Ravendor • The REAL Hermione Granger

SPOILER!!: Melanie

Melanie found herself smiling as Sarah recounted her summer. "That sounds wonderful, it must've been so much fun spending time with your family," she said. Melanie was pretty sure every time she started to speak about her own family a stupid, silly grin would come up on her face as she spoke. She loved her family loads. "Did you read anything interesting?" Because books were nice - it was like going on an adventure into someone brilliant's brain.

"I had a great summer. It was nice seeing my family again and then there was work. Work was absolutely delightful," she said, beaming.

Sarah loved her family, that is why whenever she talked about it she had a smile on her face. “well I read some more history books, some quidditch books. I read about three novels a night. Yet my favourite part was reading a book on duelling, it had jinxes and hexes in it, so I learnt them. There was also a part on curses, yet I did not learn those spells, I don’t think I will ever be able to cast a curse, too soft hearted for that. Yet I will have to build up the courage to cast curses in case I have to some day, in self defense you know”. Sarah still wanted to be an auror.
Work? “what Work did you do?” Sarah asked Melanie, she wanted to know what kind of work was fun for Melanie.

SPOILER!!: Fro
Aphrodite was shocked when she heard Sarah had six, yes SIX older brothers. "You have six older brothers? WOW .. I have four older brothers and I was also the only girl," she said in disbelief. During this time she thought that five siblings already is one of the largest families in which, it turns out Sarah is seven siblings. "Will you tell me about your family?" she asked the pretty girl in front of her.

Yup, I have six older ones, and one younger one” she said, she must not forget about James. “It is nice to have siblings, especially a few. Yet I have to admit that older brothers can terrorise you when you are younger, yet as all of you get older, they become really protective of you”. At first Sarah would be surprised when the same brother that had told Sarah to test out his electric circuit (which resulted in Sarah getting a bit of shock) would be so protective over her now. “Sure, I would love to.” Sarah said, yet then in a whisper she added “Yet we do have to be careful, there are others not as lucky to have siblings and parents so we don’t want to upset them or make them jealous or something”. She then moved her voice to normal level, “so what do you want to know? My mother is a writer, we live on a farm. My oldest brother is married and has a child, some are finished school and are working or studying yet there are some of us still in Hogwarts. What else? Do you want to hear stories?”. To the Edwards family, anything and everything could happen
SPOILER!!: Alexa

Lex looked over when she heard someone else talking to her. Sarah! They were meant to run into each other and look, they did! The perks of being in the same house. Mhm.

"Did you? I don't think I care how long she speaks, it's all too long for my attention span." She sighed and but nodded in agreement with her. "They should feed us first but I guess they really can't. Think about it, the moment half of us are fed we'll fall asleep then there'll be no one to listen to her." And they both knew the Headmistress wouldn't have been very happy with that.

"You want a cupcake or some cookies?"

I find the speech interesting, yet my stomach does not allow me to concentrate” Sarah said. “I never really thought of that, I don’t remember being fill making me feel exceptionally sleepy. Yet perhaps I just don’t realize”
Cookies or cupcakes? “Yes please, can I please have some cookies?” Sarah said eagerly. Some said it spoiled appetites to eat yum things before dinner, yet Sarah was so ravenous she could eat cookies AND a feast.
SPOILER!!: Natasha
[SIZE="2"]
Natasha looked up as a girl addressed her. This girl looked older than Natasha. She seemed nice though as she introduced herself.
“Thank you! I am Natasha Black.” She said smiling back. "What year are you in?" Natasha asked curiously. She was happy that so far, the students in this house seemed to be very welcoming.

Welcome to Gryffindor Pride, Natasha.” Sarah said grinning, “I am a fourth year now.” That did make her seem old, she had seem three years worth of students leaving, in fact the current seventh years were in fourth year when Sarah came. “Time flies here in Hogwarts, every day something new, and if life gets too monotonous, you can speak to me or Alexa” Sarah pointed in the direction of her friend, “and we will think of a plan, that adds fun, yet doesn’t lose points.” Actually she could not speak on Alexa’s behalf.
SPOILER!!: Penelope

“Great minds think alike!” Sarah said. Actually she could think of few people that did not like the fridge. Or at least a full one.
“Yup, it was great, it flew by so fast. How was yours?” she asked.
SPOILER!!: Michael

That is cool. I love how Hogwarts has students of all backgrounds, we are like a rainbow family!” she enthused.
“You help with cars?” she asked. “I only know how to add water when the car overheats, a normal car I mean,” yep, at least once a week the car had problems. Sarah felt bad for muggles that had to do it all mechanically. If her father was unable to use his wand, their car would always be at the mechanic. “Do you ever go under the car and look up?” that is what she saw the mechanics do at the car place, yet Sarah was not very into race cars so she never knew much about them. Maybe their engine was not in the front? All she knew that race cars were loud, really loud.
SPOILER!!: Amara
She nodded at the elder girl. This girl seemed so..enthusiastic? And she thought changing was not possible and that she must talk to someone and also make best use of it. Gee, she does think a lot. Could make a good Claw.

Amara lingered around the suggestion. The girl suddenly stopped speaking and she looked up to see what was wrong. What was she waiting for? Punch line?

"I...uhm...." she trailed. She decided to try and be polite this time. "Thanks" she managed to say, with stiffness ofcourse. "I will...try..to make...the best" People did seem to genuinely try and talk to her. Maybe she could share the manners. Maybe.

“Thats the spirit.” Sarah said grinning more, “in fact I found it easier that the hat chose for me, or else I would still be deciding between being an eagle or a lion. Both run in the family, one of my parents and half of my brothers are eagles and the rest are lions. Also, I am terrible at making a decision on things like that, I find it very hard. Yet now I am happy. In fact I think being brave encompasses the other traits, as some people lose their brains and wit as they get older”.
"So" Sarah began, "what lessons are you looking forward to?"

Right. Cup game.

She couldn't say she'd heard about it before but it sounded fun. Anything sounded fun when you were waiting on a speech that probably wouldn't be any good anyway. Well actually...these plastics had the chance of making the speech juuuust a bit more interesting. Still, for now, she was bored.

"Sure that'd be neat--" Before much more could be said her cup was being flipped. Blink. Blink. "So then...I just...flip it? How do I win?" Assuming she'd win because she liked thinking she would win. It made her happy. "Are there rules too?" Not hard ones, right?

It was good to see that Melanie was coming around. Even if she was still a little stunned. She'd get over it the moment she tasted the cookies. They were really good you know and the girl would agree. OOOoooooo maybe she could come with her next time!! They could carry a lot more then and the whole table would benefit...the whole table consisting of people she liked anyway but that was almost everyone if not everyone...what was the point again...? Meh.

Her brows crinkled a bit.

"Why not? How will I eat if I don't? Candy's good but it won't solve everything." She should know. She had to live on them for a week over the summer when she refused to eat Amanda's cooking. It just wasn't happening; not that the woman cared.

"My summer could have been better, Daddy left and I hardly got to do anything. The train ride was better though!!--...I mean...until some bloody idiot totally came in and ruined it for me but you know. That happens at least once a day once this place is involved." There were just too many, avoiding them all would have been impossible. "What about you? How were your summer and train ride????"

Bad? "What? No, the Common Room's the one place you'll be dying to see by your final lesson...next to the Great Hall of course. It's where you relax and stuff." Not bad at all. "But people like you might find it a bit unbearable because I'm afraid it's got those colours you just hate so much." You geddit?

Lex snickered. "I wouldn't advise going through the Common Room with your eyes closed, you might be seen as a moving target for all kinds of things." Lions could be just so creative when they were bored. Heh. As for the Professor. "She's our Head of House, the one directly in charge of us. If you have a problem you whine and complain to her." She was sure the girl would meet her sooner or later but she still turned and pointed to the staff table. "That one right there."

"She teaches Herbology, you ever heard of that subject?" Not everyone was brought up around wizards, she was just checking.

Cookies or cupcakes? “Yes please, can I please have some cookies?” Sarah said eagerly. Some said it spoiled appetites to eat yum things before dinner, yet Sarah was so ravenous she could eat cookies AND a feast.
"How do you find it interesting?" Lex tilted her head slightly and gave the girl a curious look. It was a legit question. She had never actually paid attention to most anything that was said in the speeches so she wouldn't exactly know. She would be listening this time though, because plastic cutlery made things far more interesting, especially when they came with explanations.

"Really? After a nice big meal I always want to sleep. After lunch classes are my worst...no...morning classes are...but they come in close." The point was, a sleepy Lex never learned well.

She extended her bag with a grin. "Help yourself!"
