The Lions, who placed second in Gobstones, third in the House Cup, and fourth in the Quidditch Cup last term, usually sit under a bright crimson and gold banner representing their house. As you take your seat at your House table today, however, you might notice a bit of fraying and wear and tear on the usually pristine banner. Hmm. It looks old.
If you're the type who pays attention to dishes, you might also notice that the place settings seem different than those of last term. Is it just you, or are those Dixie plates, Solo cups, and plastic silverware??? What in Merlin's beard...!?!

Speaking of lame, LOOK AT THESE PLATES. And the cups. And silverware. She picked up one of the paper plates and stared dully at it and turned to Christmas. "Do you know what this is about?" she asked, gesturing to all the plastic cups and whatnot. What happened to all the fancy goblets...and plates...and silverware...what in Merlin's beard was this about?!
Christmas smiled at Ronnie and said "Had a good summer, glad to be back at school now and i have got no idea what this is all about"

His hand holding Anya's, he led the way to the Gryffindor table. He smiled and waved at the few people he passed that he recognized... mainly Melanie and Christmas. He gave a half-smile to Penelope, though, and a "Hey, Penelope."
Oh, and then Jake came in. "Hey, Jake. Have a good rest of the summer?" Since she hadn't really seen him much after they all went to Paris for a few days. And that was...interesting, to say the least. Good and moments there. Heh.

Oh, and now Alice had appeared. Penelope hadn't seen her much at all this summer, which was a bit sad. But at least they could hang out now whenever they wanted. And Quidditch! Penelope was definitely looking forward to that.
"Hey Alice." Oh, she'd brought a Ravenclaw. Dora. That was okay though. She was perfectly welcome here if she wanted. Penelope wasn't gonna kick her out at least. Dora was pretty cool.
Garden party? Was that what all the plastic was for? Hm.

The fourth year was more than happy to sit with her friend, even if it meant not sitting at her own table (which she always did) but was still hesitant about sitting with her around a bunch of OTHER Gryffindors who were not deemed the exception of their house by her. "And if you are alarmed, then leave." She supplied helpfully. Obviously the best option since she didn't really have the option to do so.
"Hey Penelope." She leaned forward and smiled at the other preapproved girl before picking up one of the plastic plates and examining it closely. "A poor garden party. I doubt this is her stuff. You think they're at all the tables?" Dora did good not to look and check, just flick her eyes up at Alice, since she'd made promises and all.
And Dora greeted her. Cool. Penelope returned the smile and said, "Hey, Dora. Good holiday?" She seemed like she might have had a good one too. Hopefully.
And this Gryffindor still didn't know much about the garden party idea, if that was what this was about. So she didn't comment on that part of their conversation.

Then she noticed new faces, first years, "hi" she said, "my name is Sarah Edwards, a fourth year here, what is your name?" she asked them (Amara and Aphrodite).
Then she noticed Dora was there, "hi dora! Nice to see you this side of the hall. Looking forward to fourth year?" she asked.
Finally her eyes landed on Melanie who was sitting next to her, "hi Melanie!" she greeted.
"Hey Sarah." Oh. Elves on strike? Did they do that? Hm. "Would the charms be that hard?" Wouldn't Scourgify work just fine? Seemed like an easy solution if all the dishes actually were that dirty. But as long as the food was still good, Penelope didn't care. Which...it WOULD still be good even if the elves were on strike right? Merlin, she hoped so.

Oh and "You want a cupcake or some cookies? I snuck down to the kitchen and got some for the long wait." There was no way she would sit through another long wait for a feast and she didn't think her fellow Gryffindors the ones she liked anyways should go through it either.
And again, she still hadn't noticed the plastic that was happening at the table. Quite oblivious to it actually.
And then there was Alexa. And she apparently remembered her trying to sleep last term. Heh. "Mhm, much better." Thankfully. Penelope would not be happy to go through all that a second time. It was NOT fun.
But...none of that mattered because she had food?! "Yeah, of course!" She ALWAYS wanted food, especially now when she wasn't gonna be getting any food for ages.

Nod and smirks to the pretty older woman who was putting it on his head. Heh.
He had to admit though, sitting here was a pretty sweet deal. Ascanius got to scope out the Great Hall and it did not disappoint. Pretty girls EVERYWHERE. And a really pretty girl sitting over in red section. She had long brown hair and looked really, really hungry. Beam.
Anyway, he leaned back in his seat and felt the hat go on his head. WOAH WOAH WOAH. NOT SO ROUGH WITH THE HAIR! He had to look presentable after he stepped down and stuff, which he would regardless because of reasons, but still. Don't dent the 'do.
That was when the hat started to talk to him. FREAKY MAGIC HAT!
He wasn't really paying much attention to what the hat was saying because he was horribly bored and stuff, but he did catch something about how he was vain or something. Then he hat kept talking about his mind was unlocked potential and how he was this and that and BLAH BLAH BLAH. Oh look, the older women at the table were nice looking too. Hogwarts... way to work it. Heh.
Suddenly he heard someone say something about something-thin. His eyes snapped open and he scowled. He was NOT thin. Or scrawny or any of that. Jealous idiots.
Someone clarified the word again. SLYTHERIN. Oh... was that supposed to mean something? That was when someone pointed out the green table. He shrugged and hopped down. Sure, he'd sit there. Whatever floated their boat.
Ascanius out.
Oh, Sorting time. Penelope didn't pay much attention to the people being Sorted aside from one particular person, and he wouldn't be up until they got further down in the alphabet.
Ah, there we go.
So now to wait. Of course she was hoping for Gryffindor, but she supposed it'd be fine if he went somewhere else. It would be fun to be able to hang out in the common room though. But she wouldn't get her hopes up too much.

Christmas smiled at Penelope and said "i had a great summer thanks Penelope, can't wait to get onto the practice pitch and get flying again, haven't flown all summer"
She didn't care about the dishes. NO. She did not. And she'd never really cared about anything before. But this is mad...
This couldn't be happening! Shouldn't! She walked the length of the Gryffindor Table and slumped into the table, rather reluctantly. Head in her hands, she began to curse the Sorting Hat.
Stupid, idiotic, egoistic....argh! MAD HAT!
"Bravery above all! Who asked for that!" she said, loud. Freaking Gryffindor! Her dad had been wrong. Dad lied to me. It placed me in Gryffindor! She jerked and looked across the hall. Zyanya was seated snugly at the Ravenclaw Table.
WHY?! WHY ME? She glared at anyone who caught her eye. She didn't want this....NO!
Must talk to someone. Yes,yes...
For the first time in her life, she was getting tensed and angrier. And she had NEVER been tensed rule out angrier. The sorting hat had placed her in Gryffindor. She looked at the Slytherin Table. Her house, that was her house. Slytherin. Slytherin.
Nash walked over to the Gryffindor table, he wanted to make some Gryffindor friends, this house had to be a lot better than Hufflepuff
But he knew that his heart would lie in Slytherin. He just knew it. But no sense in being so mad about it? Right? Nashville shrugged. Well he could make the best of it? Yes?
Nashy looked around to see who he might want to talk to or if they looked like someone who would talk to him in return. His eyes darted at a girl wo didn't seem so happy about being placed in Gryffindor. Nash walked over to her.
There was an empty seat near her. "Are you alright? Did the stupid hat get your sorted wrong too?" his Brazilian accent had shown through once again. "Would it be alright if I sat next to you?" Nashville smiled.

Spotting Christmas, Melanie smiled and wiggled her fingers in greeting before plopping herself down at a random seat.
This was definitely not "same old, same old"... because "same old, same old" didn't mean plastic silverware and foam plates and red cups. What was going on? Melanie looked at her spork, holding it up at the ceiling and trying to see what was special about it. There was nothing special about it other than the way it was plastic and it was plastic.
Well then... Melanie set the spork down and straightened it. She wondered what had happened.
OH MY GOODNESS, NO WAY! Haha! It was Melanie. Did she every tell him that she was a Gryffindor? He pokes his head, as if it would help him remember...but it failed. Nashville waved to her, he even jumped up and down for a bit, maybe she would see him. But if that fails he would continue to looked like an embarrassment.
"MELANIE!"

Well he didn't really know anybody but he really did want to meet new people and to be friends with Gryffindor's because they wear red of course...although he really did like purple and orange a lot. Nashville wondered why none of the houses had purple or orange. Why?
What about them having Christmas colors? YES! That would be awesome because then you would be able to sing Christmas song all year 'round and who doesn't like Christmas songs? Well boring people of course.
Nashville found an empty seat but he didn't know if he was allowed to sit there so he went up to the girl to ask her. "Excuse me, Miss is anyone sitting next to you?" Like a proper gentleman, Nash beamed as his Brazilian accent had seemed a little thicker than normal but hopefully the girl would understand what he was saying.

Christmas looked at the boy and smiled and said "No there is nobody sitting next to me, your more than welcome to join me, I am Christmas Goldman"
Sylvester had managed to slowly make his way back over to the Gryffindor table where people had been clapping when he'd been sorted. At least he'd gotten half of what he wanted, he was in the house he wanted but now Kahlan was a Slytherin... they'd definitely have to find a place to go and chat after all this was over. They could make their friendship work, even without lazy Saturdays in the same common room.
Sly sat himself down casually looking up and down the table. Well he'd always liked the colour red... though that red cup in front of him was bothering him for some reason. Still the first year just shrugged it off, not really knowing what to do now that he was sitting at the table.
Christmas looked at the boy and smiled and said "No there is nobody sitting next to me, your more than welcome to join me, I am Christmas Goldman"
Nashville smiled at sat next to the girl. HER NAME IS CHRISTMAS! That is so awesome, like who wouldn't want their name to be Christmas? How much cooler could you get? "It's lovely to meet you, Christmas." Nashville took her hand and kissed the top of it. "I'm Nashville Cash." Nashy smiled. "Thank you for letting me sit here."

He went to Beauxbations for his first three years too! "I went to Beauxbations for my first three year too, then I wen't to Salem for one year and the Durmstrang last year and I plan on being here for the next two terms. He couldn't tell and that made him blush even more. A speech? "Are her speeches normally really long?" a worried look appeared on his face. If everyone was quiet during these speeches it would be bad because his tummy would be really loud and he didn't want for people to hear it.

Smiles were good? YES! DUH! Don't be so stupid. Of course smiles were good it meant that he was making someone happy but he didn't know how he was making this Gryffindor girl so happy and smiley but he really kind of liked it. Making people happy and smiley and laughing was what he loved to do and it worked even better when he was hyper or even bored out of his mind. "I have a feeling I will be getting lost a lot, this castle is so giant compared to Durmstrang." It was very overwhelming to him too and he had seem how big Hogwarts looked when he got off of the train.

The girl definitely looked angry. Still humming to herself, Melanie tried to think about something to say. What could she say? Oh wait.
"Hi," Melanie greeted, because that was the obvious thing to say, "I'm Melanie Sung, I saw you just got sorted! Welcome to Gryffindor!" And with that Melanie applauded the girl for getting into the wonderful house. "And if you have anything you wanna ask me, I can. If you need me to set you a bedtime, I can do that too."
Because Melanie was good at that - having a bed time. And drinking tea; Melanie was good at that too.

She wasn't torn with missing a certain someone because he was here too now. Thank Merlin.
He had to be sorted first though. That would be interesting. And it meant Penelope would actually pay attention to the Sorting this time. She hadn't really since her first Sorting, except for whenever the hat put someone in Gryffindor. She'd briefly focus then, but otherwise, she couldn't be bothered to really watch when she was SO hungry.
Making her way to the Gryffindor table, the fourth year took a seat near the only other people currently there. "Hey, Christmas. Hey, Melanie." She didn't notice the old-looking banner, but she DID notice the odd utensils on the table. A plastic spork? Plastic cup? Were the other dishes dirty or something? She was pretty sure these had never been used at Hogwarts before...
Oh, and now there were...a couple firsties? One was already talking to Christmas, but the other seemed upset? "What's up with you?"
The sixth year heard someone greeting her and wiggled her fingers in greeting. "Hello, Penelope~ Enjoy your summer?" Because Penelope probably had loads to say about summer judging from the end of the term feast. And they hadn't spoken since then... oh... awkward.

She was looking around the Great Hall when she noticed Alice walking in through the double doors. A grin automatically stretched across Melanie's face when she spotted her favorite fifth year. Well, now Alice was a fifth year... that was a bit strange to Melanie. And it seemed like Alice had brought over someone else to the table. A Ravenclaw and Melanie only knew that because Alice had said that the girl was one.
Which meant the girl was smart.
"Hey Alice," Melanie greeted sliding down the bench and sitting in front of Alice and the other girl. Other girl was pretty. And looked a bit younger. Was the girl a fifth year like Alice? "And hi, I'm Melanie," she greeted, smiling at her before picking up the spork. It was just so fascinating. Spoons... combined with forks... absolutely genius.

The headmistress seemed like the kind that would not get her hands dirty in the kitchen. How she managed to teach herbology was beyond Sarah. "but plastic stuff is okay, we are here for the food afterall, the thing we eat it off does not matter." she added with a smile.
Melanie smiled at Sarah who greeted her. The two had been on the Quidditch team together but she never really spoke to her. Well, there was no time like the present. "Hey Sarah, did you enjoy your break?" Melanie asked. She couldn't wait to know about the younger girl's summer. Everyone seemed to have done such amazing things!

It was an odd thought, especially considering all that happened but when she thought about it...it was...okay?
Whatever it was she was thinking perfectly and as such she remembered what these things could be like.
As a result the now Third Year slipped away from everyone right before they entered the Great Hall and headed for the Kitchen. The same thing would happen like last term and the term before. The Headmistress would sit in her comfy chair, talking to everyone while they starved. Well not this time. NOPE. She grabbed a few cupcakes and cookies from there then slipped into the Great Hall.
The first person she noticed as she approached her table was Melanie!! OH! OH! OH!!!
"HAI!!!!" BEAM. She hadn't seen her in a looooong time...it was a long time of no one telling her that she had a bedtime and it wasn't that she was going to miss that but at the same time, Melanie had a way of making it seem like a good thing. How many people did you know who read stories to others before bed???
Exactly!! NOT. MANY. DUH.
"You want a cookie? I snuck some from the kitchen. It's gonna be a long feast without food, I can tell." In all this she still didn't notice the new decorations.
Melanie was about to go back to humming. Melanie did a lot of that - humming - it made her think a little and remind her that when she grew up she would be famous. But she didn't get a chance to do that, nope, because Alexa came in through the doors and seemed to be absolutely bursting with energy. Melanie wasn't sure how to greet the girl back. She debated mentally between a hug or a wave but didn't do either. Her hands were too preoccupied with the spork.
"Hey hi hello, Alexa!" Melanie liked Alexa. She wondered if the younger girl had finished packing properly before boarding though. Melanie sure hoped so and pushed that thought to the back of her mind. Surely, Alexa didn't want hear those types of questions at the start of term feast.
Cookie...? What...? "You went to the kitchen before the feast?" Melanie whispered loudly, eyes wide. "Is that even allowed?" Melanie was pretty sure it wasn't. And the last thing Melanie wanted to happen was for Alexa to get herself into detention because Melanie knew it wouldn't be pleasant. At all.

She scooted next to her. "Hey there!" she said, smiling. "It's...Melanie, right?" she asked.
She heard her name yet again and jumped slightly, almost dropping her spork. She held onto it though and smiled at the girl who had scooted over next to her. "Hi," Melanie said right back. Oh wow, this girl must be good with names. How did the girl know Melanie's name? Had they spoken before? Melanie sure hoped not because she didn't remember the girl's name and that was a recipe for pure awkwardness.

"MELANIE!"
Melanie jumped in her seat when she heard her name. She should've been used to it with all the name calling that people were doing at the feast but she wasn't expecting that. Melanie stood and her hand shot up. "PRESENT." Oh wait, this wasn't roll call. Blushing and sliding right back into her seat, she lowered her hand before seeing the source of the voice. OH! "NASHVILLE!" Melanie beamed, waving back at him and waving him over. He could sit next to Melanie. And then they could talk. About the fountain... and... whatever came up.

She loved Quidditch too? How awesome is this girl. She has a beautiful name, she's beyond gorgeous and she love Quidditch. Although looks don't matter they are just an added bonus. It was all about the personality, after everything looks always come last. How could he not stop smiling right now? Weirdo, he was such a weirdo but he was one of those cute, adorable weirdo's where it was alright to be a weirdo. He was going to tryout for the Hufflepuff and he knew that if he didn't get on that he would beat himself up for it. He was on the Beauxbations, Salem and Durmstrang Quidditch teams. He knew that he was good enough to make it. "What was your position on the team?" he grinned brightly. "Quidditch is really fun."

Present? Like roll call present or did he have to like give her a gift kind of present. Nashville dug into his pockets. "I'm sorry I only have chocolate, I don't know what kind of present you wanted." he was confused? He was just so air headed sometimes. There she goes down again and then back up. HEY SHE KNEW IT WAS ME! There he goes flailing again.
"That's my name!" Nashville did a slow motion run, like it those chessy, lame romance movie and it was a really slow run but he finally made it after...maybe two or so minutes and hugged Melanie tightly. "Imisschoo!"

CHASER?! He was a chaser. "I'm a chaser to but sometimes I'm a beater too but I'm better at being a chaser but being a beater is fun too, being a beater comes in handy when you're angry." It was so true, it would like therapy for someone that had anger issues...although Nash himself never really got angry unless someone messes with someone he cares about then he would go in full blown protective mode. But he never really had a reason to be angry nowadays. Once again he was blushing, Nashville put both of his hands on his cheek to cover it up, she might his is looks like a doofus.

Oh she was better this year. Good. Real good because otherwise Lex would try waking her up and she'd be either extra tired or extremely annoyed but neither would register to Lex and that wouldn't go well.
And she wanted some!!!
Lex held her bag toward her. "Just reach in and help yourself, there's a whole bunch of cupcakes and cookies for you to choose from." In times like this one had to think ahead. FAR ahead. How curious.
Lex watched a firstie walk up to the table, one of the newly sorted. There was just something she wasn't understanding. The other firsties seemed happy enough but not the ones placed in Gryffindor. They weren't that bad!! The house was amazing but they chose to sulk or whatever it was they did. Some just looked like they didn't know what to do next--like this one.
Quite causally, Lex leaned across the table and gave him a poke, being careful not the shift the plastics. "Welcome to Gryffindor!" GRIN. "House of the brave and all that. You're a firstie aren't you? I'm Alexa and you are?" Mhm, because being friendly was the way to go in most every situation!
SPOILER!!: Melanie XD

"The fact that I snuck down there probably means I'm not so how's about we not say it too loud, mmkay?" She flashed on a wide smile. "Now then. You want some??"

Oh good, she did have a good summer. Penelope was glad to hear that. "I didn't get to either." Fly, that is. She was used to that though, of course. She'd never lived or spent time during the summer in an exclusively magical setting. That was okay though. The Muggle world was good too, even if some people failed to see it. "Least we're back now and can fly whenever we want." And play Quidditch. Penelope was so looking forward to tryouts.

Before that hilarious moment with her boyfriend being Sorted into Slytherin, Penelope did vaguely notice one of the firsties being Sorted into Gryffindor. Good, more lions were always welcome. And now that she had her laughing fit under control, she could pay attention to other things. Like the first year sitting all quiet and alone. That was no fun.
"Hey, kid. Welcome to Gryffindor," she said with a grin.

A whole bag! Penelope was SO tempted to just grab the bag - because she could totally eat everything in it - but she could be generous and she knew Alexa and some others would need food too, so instead she just reached in and pulled out a couple cupcakes in one hand and a handful of cookies in the other. Yeah, this would do for now. "Thanks!"
She stuffed a cookie in her mouth as she briefly pondered the younger lion's question. "Dunno," she answered with a shrug after swallowing the cookie. "Who'd have the time to switch it out?" She'd gotten her kinda early and they were already like this. So no one could have switched everything, could they? Wouldn't it just be the way the Headmistress wanted it? No idea why she'd want them all to use plastic cups and things, but stranger things had happened at Hogwarts.

Fast, eh? They should totally have a broom race. Wait, can you do that at Hogwarts? It could be like a muggle car race but on a broomstick. "I think everyone likes to score." Nashville chuckled. It was true, he would love to score and he has a dozen or more times and it made him feel like a somebody in life...or at least in the games. "How fast are you? We should have a race." he nodded. "I think I'll try out for any position, as long as I get on the team and play that's all that matters to me."

Melanie giggled and shook her head. "I meant, I was here... it's... uhm... habit... kind of," Melanie explained. Her explanation was pretty horrible, but it was an explanation of sorts. "Thanks for offering the chocolate but I think you should just keep it for yourself." Because waiting for the feast would take ages and everyone always ended up hungry way before so he should keep that chocolate. It'd help get through the painful wait for delicious food.
Watching him run in slow motion, Melanie laughed loudly, clutching her sides before hugging him back tightly. "I missed you too!" Melanie said honestly. She missed everyone. "How are you? How was your summer?"

Melanie's eyes were still wide. So... Alexa had gone down to the kitchens without permission? Melanie immediately put her hand over her mouth so she didn't say anything that would get Lex caught. Lex getting caught would not be pleasant. Lex getting detention would also not be pleasant. So she simply kept her hand on her mouth, trying to calm herself down and not give the girl a lecture.
But afterwards in the dorms, Melanie would have to explain to Alexa how sneaking down to the kitchens, even if she was hungry, was inappropriate.
She lowered her hand, took in a deep breath and let it out. In... and out... in... out... "What type of cookie did you t- I mean... do you have?" Melanie asked, giving the girl a slight smile.

"I did enjoy my summer," Melanie said, smiling as she thought about her summer. "It was loads of fun, getting to work and all," she added. She missed working a lot. It was strange but she enjoyed being a waitress and talking to customers and the uniform and the people she worked with. And it paid well. Melanie liked that part too.
