Gobstones Match: Ravenclaw vs. Hufflepuff

The building used for the Gobstones matches had had it's doors opened to the icy, winter air and it's surfaces magically dusted by Professor Romanos and Mr. Kitridge, the school's Gobstones sponsors and made ready for the term's fifth match.

The yellow and blue marbles were set out and the playing 'field' had been marked. Chairs were set out on each side of the arena creating a Viewing Area for those not playing to watch.

When Leobald headed down from the castle to set up for the fifth Gobstones match of the term he walked down in the chilly snowflake filled morning air where the grounds were now completely covered in a white layer of snow. By the time he had unlocked and entered the building his hands were shaking from the cold. Pulling out his wand he warmed himself up before he fetched the stone bags and took a tour of the court and stands in the viewing area.

Everything looked good for the match so Leo took his place in the center of the court to wait for Medea and the players from Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. When the group of student's had formed around him he spoke as much as to them as the people in the stands. "Welcome everyone to the fifth Gobstones match of the season."

"Good luck to both houses and remember that horse-play won't be tolerated." he said putting emphasises on the last words. Giving the teams their stones, yellow to Hufflepuff and blue to Ravenclaw he took his place on the sideline.

The first players made their way out onto the court. It was captain against an unnamed ravenclaw that manned the shooters for their houses. The two aimed and released their shooters. The stones sped off down the court with equal speed. It was a tight race all up to the Jack Stone where the yellow managed to draw the long straw and inch up closest.

"1 point to Hufflepuff!" Leo declared excitedly.

Ella Bishop kept the yellow shooter in a tight grip as Nigel Barrington joined her on the court for the Eagles. The two players aimed and released their shooters. The stones sped off. The blue stone had way too much speed and zoomed down the court and well past the Jack before it stopped at the edge of the court. The yellow stone could in its back water roll up next to the Jack stone without trouble.

"2 point's to Hufflepuff!" Leo declared excitedly.

Nigel and Ella stood firmly side by neither of them wanted to switch with a team player and thus they both ignored the calls from the substitute benches. The two players aimed and released their shooters. The stones sped off. The yellow stone leaped ahead with the blue close behind until it suddenly just stopped. No cheers or claps from the eagles could make it budge. Meanwhile the yellow stone had reached the Jack stone and tapped it.

"3 point's to Hufflepuff!" Leo declared.

Alec Summers waved frantically at the side of the court eagerly trying to get Ella to let him have a round with the shooter. The puff captain stubbornly remained on the court next to Nigel for another round. The two players aimed and released their shooters. The stones sped off. The blue stone leaped ahead but it suddenly started to swerve to side. When it eventually stopped it sprayed the ravenclaw bench in smelly gob. The yellow stone could lazily inch up next to the Jack stone.

"1 point to Hufflepuff!" Leo announced.

Last question of the session.

Alec's waving from the sideline was rewarded as Ella walked off the court and handed him the yellow shooter. Nobody on the ravenclaw bench was eager to switch with Nigel so he remained on the court to the sound of encouraging cheers from his house mates. The two boys aimed and released their shooters. The two stones sped down the court side by side all the way up to the Jack stone. Both knocked into the Jack stone but in the end the yellow stone was deemed closest after measuring.

"2 point's to Hufflepuff!" Leo announced.

Alec clapped Wade Potter on the shoulder as the two boys switched places. Wade headed out on the court and Alec took an empty seat on the badger bench. Nigel still played for the eagles. The two boys released their shooters to the cheers and claps of both benches. The blue stone didn't get far down the court before it stopped. The eagle bench quickly covered their faces but no gob came. The yellow stone meanwhile rolled up next to the Jack stone.

"3 point's to Hufflepuff!" Leo announced.
