Gobstones Match: Hufflepuff vs. Slytherin

The building used for the Gobstones matches had had it's doors opened to the icy, winter air and it's surfaces magically dusted by Professor Romanos and Mr. Kitridge, the school's Gobstones sponsors and made ready for the term's fourth match.

The yellow and green marbles were set out and the playing 'field' had been marked. Chairs were set out on each side of the arena creating a Viewing Area for those not playing to watch.

Match has now started!

When Leobald headed down from the castle to set up for the fourth Gobstones match of the term he walked down in the chilly snowflake filled morning air where the grounds were now completely covered in a white layer of snow. By the time he had unlocked and entered the building his hands were shaking from the cold. Pulling out his wand he warmed himself up before he fetched the stone bags and took a tour of the court and stands in the viewing area.

Everything looked good for the match so Leo took his place in the center of the court to wait for Medea and the players from Hufflepuff and Slytherin. When the group of student's had formed around him he spoke as much as to them as the people in the stands. "Welcome everyone to the fourth Gobstones match of the season."

"Good luck to both houses and remember that horse-play won't be tolerated." he said putting emphasises on the last words. Giving the teams their stones, yellow to Hufflepuff and green to Slytherin he took his place on the sideline.

The first players made their way out onto the court. It was captain against captain as Ella and Dylan manned the shooters for their houses. The two aimed and released their shooters. The stones sped off down the court with equal speed. It was a tight race all up to the Jack Stone where the yellow managed to draw the long straw and inch up closest.

"1 point to Hufflepuff!" Leo declared excitedly.

In the second round of the match it was an all boys affair as Dylan faced Jory. The two young men aimed and released their shooters. Dylan's green stone sped off so fast you could get the impression that it was being hunted. The yellow's speed was more controlled. The stones rolled down towards the Jack but the green had way too much speed and sped well past the Jack Stone and almost rolled off the edge of the court before it stopped. The yellow stone on the other hand inched up next to the Jack stone and stopped.

"2 points to Hufflepuff!" Leo declared excitedly.

Dylan stubbornly remained on the court and refused to switch with another Slytherin sitting on the bench. The badgers however switched players as Ella returned for another go. The two players released their shooters. Dylan must have given his stone too much of a spin on release since it started to swerve to the side before it stopped at Mr Kitridge's feet. The yellow stone had better aim and could easily roll up and stop right next to the Jack stone.

"3 points to Hufflepuff!" Leo declared excitedly.

In Dylan's case it turned out that stubborness paid off. Dylan and Ella released their stones. The yellow stone it was clear from the start had way too much speed. It raced down the court and past the Jack in almost an blink of an eye and the stopped before the edge of the court sprouting the badger bench in smelly gob. The green stone could effortlessly roll up next to the Jack Stone uncontested.

"1 point to Slytherin!" Leo declared excitedly.

Last question of the session.

Encouraged by winning the round Dylan remained on the court and Ella didn't leave either. She seemed to want a rematch. With fresh stones loaded the two released their shooters. The green stone took an early lead on the yellow but suddenly without warning just stopped in the middle of the court. No cheering or clapping from the snakes could make it start rolling again. The yellow stone rounded its stranded oppponent and inched up next to the Jack stone and stopped.

"2 point to Hufflepuff!" Leo declared excitedly.
