It had been a short while since the first Divination Lesson of the term but at least the students had had SNAC to keep their minds fresh on the Divination Art. The Professor had been busy planning this lesson for quite some time and was really excited to teach it.
The room looked the same as usual. Elwood was sitting at her desk waiting for the students to enter. Stack beside her on the wooden piece of furniture was a stack of glass slabs, some rollers, a bunch of rubber pieces roughly the size of the glass and a few, small boxes. Material for the day's activity no doubt--or just random stuff the eccentric blonde had dug out.
Come on in and take a seat, the lesson will begin shortly.

The jumping off buildings thing and not dying AND saving someone's life. See? Superman was so AWESOME!
Middle... long... curvy... smaller lines crossing it... All of that didn't really sound bad to Alec. It was just describing a line, yeah? But then Hulk said something about being emotionally traumatised and all Alec could do was... blink at her. Was he emotionally traumatised? Did he even know? "Erm... I don't think so..." BLINK. "Does it say that I'm emotionally traumatised?"
Shaking his head, he looked down at the glass slab that had Alice's hand print on it. "Okay... erm... your heart line begins under the middle finger which means that you're selfish in love..." He... wasn't going to tell West that, if it was true. "It's straight and short which... means..." Squint at blackboard. "Less interest in romance. And it touches the life line so that means you get your heart broken easily." Frown. Alec didn't like the sound of someone breaking Hulk's heart. Nope. He turned to her and smiled a little, waiting for her verdict.
Also... notes. He should take some of those, right?
Hulk by day, ninja by night. That was going to be Alice's new catch phrase.
"Because you're Superman." It was probably why the eye black worked so well on him. "It says you have emotional trauma. I won't tell Ells, promise." She made a zipping motion with her fingers, nodding along seriously. But those two were always happy, weren't they? "Forget it, these readings are probably a load of old tosh anyway." And what he said next just confirmed her suspicions.
Selfish in love? What did that mean? And less interest in romance.. "My heart is very tough, I think." And unbroken. Safe, see? Alices didn't get hurt easily at all. Obviously. She offered him a reassuring smile and waited for him to take more notes before politely copying them off his parchment again. Her turn? "Your head line's short.. ish.. pretty straight, but it's broken, too."

Alec Summers: Earth hand
- Shortish fingers (.. takes less time to wrap around snitches? Maybe?)
- Squareish palm (this has no use whatsoever)
- Deeply carved lines in palm (also useless)
Birth Hand Reading: Heart Line
- Begins in the middle --> falls in love easily
- Long and curvy --> freely expresses emotions and feelings
- Smaller lines crossing through --> emotional trauma
Birth Hand Reading: Head Line
- Short line --> prefers physical achievements over mental ones
- Straight line --> thinks realistically
- Broken line --> inconsistencies in thought
Giving his reading a once over, she decided this one was fairly accurate and pushed it closer to him so he could see.

Asher scribbled his findings down on his parchment, leaving room to add more. They had done the head and heart line, so he figured the would finish with the last two lines the professor had in the examples.
Ella nodded, eyes on her print. "I guess that means I'm terrible at making up my mind or something," She said thoughtfully, pulling her notes towards her.

She said while continuing to study his print. It said he liked physical achievements and Quidditch was definitely physical. Could she maybe do some recruiting right now?
Oh and she should probably copy down his info too.

"Exactly!" He was Superman... how AWESOME did that sound? The happy feeling the Hufflepuff had received from that statement soon vanished when the Gryffindor continued to talk about the emotional trauma part. "Well... thanks! But, yeah, you're right. It's probably not right, anyways," And he smiled at her because... emotional trauma? It was understandable if that came about closer to his birthday but now?!
Tough heart. Alec wouldn't be surprised if that was true. Hulk was tough, yeah? "Which means that it won't get broken easily!" Which was... good because anyone who broke Hulk's heart would... would... who was he kidding, there was nothing he would be able to do, even if he wanted to. He'd have ice cream for her, sure. He could do that.
Head line! The sixteen year old listened as the girl examined the head line. And... according to her notes, that he then peered at, this reading was a little more true to him than the last one had been. See? Physical achievements. Quidditch. Yeah, yeah, very true! "I don't think that sounds too bad..." GRIN.
His turn, yeah? Alec looked down at the Alice's hand print on the glass slab and examined it carefully. "Well... your head line is kind of curvy... wait, no, wavy. It's wavy! Which, erm... means that you have a short attention span," Was that true? "The line is separated from your life line so... hey! You're adventurous and enthusiastic about life! Very Gryffindor!" Adventurous. That was Gryffindor. But were Gryffindors enthusiastic about life? "And lastly... there are quite a lot of crosses through it which..." Squint at the board. "... means that you make momentous decisions! Sound good?"

Right, the HEAD line was next...Dylan was still carefully inspecting his hand and trying to decide about the previous Heart line and element ruling it. Well, he'd decided...but still...it was in the Slytherin's nature to constantly question all the things.
Also, Professor Elwood had listed characteristics on the blackboard and he tried to match his up...Peering between the two, he noted that his Head line was long and ran deep...So, that meant his thinking was clear and focused...Legit enough for him. It was also straight...and that said 'thinks realistically' beside it.
Dylan had always been a realist. So, that was also legit.
Pulling his notebook again, he updated the notes...

Dylan C. Montmorency - Air Hand
First off, my palm is squared and doesn't have curvatures like an oblong palm would (which is the Water Hand).
I have long fingers...that are thin and muscular from catching snitches. I'm currently learning piano from my best mate...and I know that would be more difficult if I had shorter fingers.
According to my book, this means that I use intelligence, articulation, and logic to explain the world around me...which is cool, I guess. I mean, I am pretty intelligent.
It's also listed that "Air Hands" are great worriers and suffer from loads of stress, with is the most legit thing I can say about myself.
Heart line
It starts between my pointer and middle fingers, staggering a bit before moving down a smidgen and then over. Apparently, I have a slight disregard for the true meaning of love...and it's responsibilities. Also, I give my heart away freely. *disagrees*
It's long and curvy...It says that means I have a romantic nature which is very true...and I that I give all of myself to love. I don't know if I do or not, though...
There's a small break at the end and it says that represents emotional loss...like with relationships and death.
Head line
It starts down a smidgen and runs long and deep across the middle part of my hand. According to the blackboard, that means that my thinking is clear and focused. I agree, too...since I can relate it to Quidditch.
It's impossibly straight...and according to the blackboard, that means my way of thinking is realistic. Something else I totally agree with.
It's a rather boring line, apparently.
Looking around, he observed others for a moment, sighing at the pairs that worded together.
Their hands were probably more interesting and exciting than his...

Waiting for an answer, Renesmee watched as Tobias looked up at the board and back at his notes as well as there hand prints. She hoped he never did that due to confusion, but he seemed like a clever kid so she doubted that and doubted right she did. "Cool, cool." She smiled at him before getting started on his own hand print.
So the head line, that was the second line and apparently represented knowledge, brains all of that stuff. Would be interesting to see, but before she did any examinations she wrote some notes of her own on both the heart line and head line. This would be for studying later on, in case she needed to know how to do this. A few scribbles later she was done and once more looked at Tobias' ickle hand print.
Hmmmmm. What could she see this time?
The first thing she noticed was how it was quite separated from his life line, she looked at her own copied notes of the board and read what that meant. Definitely suited this kid. So scribbles on that for him. Looking back at the print she examined the head line again, wavy it was as well as it had multiple crosses through it. Just like before she checked those definitions and wrote some more about his hand. She looked over her notes and then looked back at Tobias to see how far he was.
"Ready, when you are." To swap notes that was, because checking them was good. Yep?

Tobias Tempus -Air Hand Why?
Sqaureish and TOO ADORABLE FOR WORDS palm
Fingers are definitely long comparing to other kiddos hands I've seen.
-Heart line
Begins bellow the middle, which means he could be selfish when it comes to love, but really he doesn't look selfish to me not with those cheeks.
I think he's line is straight and short so that should mean not so interested in romance, you can't blame him there. What boys are?
There's smaller lines crossing through his line..which means emotional trauma, wonder what.
-Head Line
His head line is separated from his life line, which means he's adventurous and he has an enthusiasm for life.
It's wavy which would mean he has a small attention span, I suppose that fits him it's not so hard to get bored.
His line also has multiple crosses through it which would represent momentous or important decisions.
"Cool cool cool," Tobias replied, giving a little smile as he did.
Right.
Ready.
So ready for this.
Tobias' attention was starting to wander easily... he wasn't sure how much of this subject was really real, but it was being taught, right? So... he guessed it had to be real. Unless it was one of those things that couldn't be proved wrong. Still... past lives and stuff... it sounded like it could be cool but only if you had loads of detail, enough that you could research them.
But that was his train of thought wandering, and he shook his head and got back to the task at hand.
Haha... hand... haha... ha... HAND. That was FUNNY.
Ahem... right.
Tobias placed the feathered end of his quill into the corner of his mouth as he attempted to find some of the things written on the board but on the next line. It was slightly difficult because it kind of looked like it wasn't one like... but maybe that was something to be looking for?
Glancing up at the blackboard, Tobias saw that it was, in fact, something to write about, and began adding to his notes.

Heart line
it kind of blatantly starts right under the index finger which means she's content with her love life... that's super good!
it's also kind of long and I guess you could say it's curvy so that means she freely expresses emotions and feelings... that's also good. This is a good hand to have.
I can't really tell the if the other stuff is there but I think that's plenty
Head line[*]it's kind of broken... like there's a gap, and that apparently means inconsistencies in thought, and I have literally no idea what that actually means[*]it's definitely curved, and apparently curved/sloping means creative, so I think that applies... yeah it totally does work[*]the line is kiiiiind of hard to see and I think that's because of the little lines and crosses and that means momentous decisions and maybe that's to do with adulting and stuff
Somewhat triumphantly, because this was pretty easy once you got the hang of it, Tobias sat back again and set down his quill. He looked over at Nessie's parchement as well and nodded as he read down it. The one about the short attention span made him grin somewhat mischeviously. Boy, was that true. So was the enthusiasm one. "Awesome!" Grinnnn.
Swinging his legs gently, Tobias fidgeted slightly and glanced at Nessie and then the handprints again. "Do you reckon we get to keep these? They're super neat."

He was checking out his hand, his hands were small. The little guy had little fingers and hand for a first year. It was only normal. He examined his hands and said, "Well i am not sure about mine, but i know my fingers are short and i know they are somewhat stubby." he chuckled at that. "Alright Nerida, i copied what type of hand i have. So maybe you can copy on your own paper and i can compare but now i hear the professor moving on. She wants us to read the lines on our hands. We have to grab an ink pad and make a hand print. You wanna start first?" he asked her.[/FONT]

"Okay, I know not everyone has determined their partner's and their own hand types but if you could do that quickly either together or on your own along with listing two to three reasons why you've decided that on your parchment that would be great. Once you've done that grab the ink pad, rubber stamp pad, and a glass slab for yourself and your partner or if you don't have a partner one set for yourself. Be sure that each person has a glass slab."
Great did they all have those things? "What I'm going to have everyone do is read the hand that tells what the person was born with, meaning what characteristics that person had from a past life or by some divine power or maker." Or really any type of action that led to each of them being here today. "So we are going to make stamps of our hands by pushing the rubber pad into the ink, and then pressing our hands against the pad to ensure we don't have too much ink and then making an impression on the glass slab." The Professor took her hand, held up her bangles before pressing it onto the ink covered rubber pad. She then pressed it lightly to the glass slab for a few seconds before lifting it up to show them the perfectly left behind hand print.
"Everyone understand the process? If so how do we decide what hand tells us what we were born with? Well for males it is believed that the left hand is the born with hand and for females its the opposite meaning it would be the right hand." After she had dropped that bit of information on them she flicked her wand at the board and a picture of a hand appeared along with a numbered item:
SPOILER!!: 'BlackBoard"
(1) The heart line.
**To be read from index finger towards pinky
Begins below the index finger - content with love life
Begins below the middle finger - selfish when it comes to love
Begins in the middle - falls in love easily.
Straight and short - less interest in romance
Touches life line - heart broken easily
Long and curvy - freely expresses emotions and feelings
Straight and parallel to the head line - good handle on emotions
Wavy - many relationships and lovers, absence of serious relationships
Circle on the line - sadness or depression
Broken line - emotional trauma
Smaller lines crossing through heart line - emotional trauma.
"Once you've made your hand print I need you to interpret either your partner's heart line or if you don't have a partner or for some other reason wish to do your own hand, read your own heart line. Please record it on your parchment." Calista knew that it was a lot of directions all at once but she was positive that they were capable of following them correctly.

"This line represents a person's learning style, communication approach, intellectualism, and thirst for knowledge." Something really appropriate to be looking at in a classroom. He looked over his notes after her last question. "I do think a lot of mine are true for me. Although, I'm not sure about the heart ones. I've never had a relationship, so it's hard to know what will happen."

He looked over his notes after her last question. "I do think a lot of mine are true for me. Although, I'm not sure about the heart ones. I've never had a relationship, so it's hard to know what will happen."
Ella doodled on the side of her parchment as she waited for Professor Elwood to continue the lesson, a small smile on her face. She'd gotten quite good at drawing elephants on brooms, y'know. Blink. "Of course not. I mean, older players have more experience, sure, but Tobias is a first year and he's just as brilliant as anyone else." Serious nodding. "If you're interested, I'd love to see you come out for the team next term." Just saying.
The blonde smiled a little about the relationship comment and tilted her head, regarding Asher thoughtfully. "I'm sure you'll find out eventually." Probably sooner than he thought. That sort of thing tended to creep up on you when you least expected it to.
And then Asher was inviting Dylish to join them and the sixteen year old smiled a little to herself, wondering how this would go. She found Dylan nice though she knew he wasn't a big fan of Hufflepuffs in general, or so it seemed. This is why she was a bit surprised when he accepted the offer.
Huh.

No, but seriously...It was nice and to not seem like a troll, Dylan would agree...just this once. Ahem. "Sure...How very nice of you to ask..." He stood and moved that way, plopping down beside the kid.

"Ella..." Sup.
Asher tried his best not to appear too excited. He was glad the boy decided to join them. "I'm sorry, I don't remember your name." He said as the boy plopped down next to him hoping he would volunteer some information about himself. "Have you finished your heart and head lines?" Asher asked as he glanced at the boys hand print.

Huh.
"...Hey Dylish." Mini!Beam.
His hair looked nice today. Did he know?
Asher listened to her tell him about the other first year on the team. "I'll surely think about it this summer. I'd have to get a lot of practice in before I would even think about trying out." He glanced down at his bag and saw his favorite Quidditch magazine poking out a bit and smiled.
After sitting a moment, Asher realized that he was sitting with BOTH the Hufflepuff and Slytherin Captains. What had he done?? Surely they didn't want to be spending their entire class sitting with a little unknown first year. Although, he figured his popularity rating must be getting much higher with every moment they were together.

Dylan just smirked at Ella all sweet like. She was his favorite Hufflepuff and she knew it, too...and that was okay. He liked her face.

"It's Dylan, mate. Slytherin Captain and Seventh Year." Yep, and he'd even thrown a dashing grin and wink out there for laughs. He was in a rather good mood...So, yay for all the things.
"Oh, yea. Here..." He pushed his notebook forward so they could gander at it. Also, he showed the etching he'd done of his hand.

"What do you lot make of it?"

Calista had sort of zoned out while the students had been working on their palm readings. When she shook her head and remembered that she was hosting a lesson in her tower classroom, she wasn't really sure what she had been thinking about. Whatever it was must not be important.
But, MERLIN'S BEARD! LOOK AT THE TIME!
They were already over the lesson time. "Woah, students it seems we've gotten to into our readings and have lost track of time. Go ahead and pack up, be sure to take your glass prints with you because your homework will be partially to finish this reading. Keep an eye out for the homework to be posted and go enjoy what time is left of your lunch."
The blonde Professor dismissed them quickly, a tad embarrassed by her novice time-telling abilities.

Ella BEAMED at the first year and nodded. "Happy to hear it. I think you'd really enjoyed it if you came out for the team." Heh. She was a good recruiter, eh? Never too early to start.
And then Dylish was sharing his print and his notes and Ella eyed them curiously, glancing from the print to the notes every so often. "Piano, huh? That's cool." Ella's Granddad had played a little but the blonde never learned. As for the rest of it, she stroked her chin thoughtfully. "Do you believe in this stuff?" Cause Ella was still making up her mind on the subject.
When Professor Elwood spoke up, the sixteen year old expected to continue but was surprised to find that class was over. Hm. "Nice working with you, Asher." The blonde said as she gathered up her things and stuffed them into her bag. "And I'm sure you'll be good at piano, Dylish. You have the hands for it." Nodnod. "See you guys around." Probably more of Asher considering they were in the same house.
And with a salute, the sixteen year old made her way to the door. "Bye Professor! Thanks for the lesson!"
Dylan just smirked at Ella all sweet like. She was his favorite Hufflepuff and she knew it, too...and that was okay. He liked her face.

"What do you lot make of it?"
Asher studied Dylan's parchment for a few moments before looking at his hand. "Well, I don't know you very well to judge on the findings, but it does appear you have read your palm correctly." Smiling, he looked to Ella, "Do you agree?"
Upon hearing the Professor, "Oh goodness, class did go by rather swiftly, didn't it." Asher started packing up his things. "Dylan, Ella, it as truly been a pleasure working with both you. Very nice to meet you, Dylan. I do hope we can partner again."
He carefully put his hand print in his bag. "Ella, if you would like help with your homework, you know where to find me." The first year couldn't believe what was coming out of his mouth. If SHE needed help. He was the one who was probably going to need help. However, he wouldn't mind having a friend and they were in the same house.
As Kace was finishing his reading, he heard the Professor ended the lesson. It seemed like they were out of time. He looked at the clock and realized they had been carried away. He heard he needed to take his imprint of his hand. He did so and covered it up and placed the glass print of his hand into his backpack. He would need it for his homework so it seemed.....
He packed his stuff up and then he turned to Nerida. He smiled to her, "It was nice meeting you and working with you on the assignment." he said holding out his hand for her to shake. He didn't know if she was a hugger so he was just being safe.
Then he slung his backpack over his shoulder and then turned to the professor, "Thanks for an interesting lesson Professor!" he smiled to her. Then he left to go do his homework assignment. I mean the information was fresh in his memory already. He made his way to the common room.
