Divination Lesson Two (Palmistry) It had been a short while since the first Divination Lesson of the term but at least the students had had SNAC to keep their minds fresh on the Divination Art. The Professor had been busy planning this lesson for quite some time and was really excited to teach it.Lesson Progression: * Welcome and first question * Second Question and beginning of hand types * Third Question * Beginning of Partner work * Reading Heart line of With Birth hand OOC: Read classroom rules before posting and the lesson will begin around 11pm (EST). The lesson has now begun! |
Dylan approached the Divination classroom, a bounce in his step. He felt good today...He'd had some good sleep...and had continued drinking lots of water. So, all in all....Captain felt fit. Spying Professor Elwood upon entering, the Slytherin nodded his head to her respectfully, moving to take his seat. There were....items...behind her. He didn't focus too much on them for now, of course. Surely they'd have some relevance in today's lesson. He'd find out soon enough... "It's lovely to see you, Professor. You seem well." She did...and if she wasn't...Well, his bad. |
Daichi had literally taken two stairs at a time to climb up with a huge smile on his face and as he entered the divination classroom his grin widened. Over his shoulder was his school bag and in his hands was a bucket of ice cream he had stolen from the kitchen.... "HAAAI PROFESSOR~ i bought you some ice cream!" Cause he felt bad that her classroom was waaaay up top of the school and the kitchen was waaaay down. And ice cream should be shared and everyone should eat it and be happy~ Now give him some points...He needed them...BEAM! |
Nigel had a great meal before class and was looking forward to Divination. Which hardly happens ever. He opens the latch for the classroom and seeing Professor Elwood there. He smiles at her and greets her politely. "Hello, Professor Elwood". He spotted all the things on her desk and just wrote it off to her being scatter minded and have just random stuff on her desk. He walked towards the back and took a seat waiting for class to start. |
we're watching you Daichi ;) Ethan climbed up into the trapdoor to the Divination classroom, somewhat looking forward to today's lesson. The subject rather interested him, though he didn't quite know why.. it just wasn't one of those logical things but it was curious all the same. "Morning, Professor," he smiled at Elwood as he approached her at her desk. He was not going to comment on the last time he saw her.. getting a little friendly with Professor Flamsteed.. since he figured that was none of his business, but he gave her a knowing look all the same. He took a cursory glance at the objects on her desk and his mind searched for ideas about what they might be studying. "Looks like to be another interesting lesson, ma'am," he said brightly before heading to his usual seat. As he sat, he spotted Daichi sitting nearby and eyed him carefully. He was one who had been behaving rather unusually, especially in class.. though after a moment's thought, Ethan wasn't sure he saw him much outside class. And what was he holding in his hands? A bucket of ice cream?! What 7th year prefect in their right mind brought ice cream to class? Though he shouldn't be surprised.. from what he saw, the Slytherin prefect seemed to be pretty obsessed with it. He kept a careful watch on him, shooting a small, non-suspicious smile in his direction to make himself more inconspicuous. |
Kace was excited to be in Divination. He remembered the previous lesson and he liked it very much. He even liked the homework they had to do. As he managed to climb up the staircase, he finally reached the room. His cheeks were rosy from walking all those flights. He was going to have to get used to it soon enough.... As he got into the room, he noticed some students were already there. At least he wasn't the only one. He saw the professor and he smiled, "Hi Professor!" and then he got his seat in the front of the room. He got out his quill and parchment out but he was doodling waiting for the rest of the students to get here. |
Divination lesson number two. Ness was ready, but absolutely exhausted. It wasn't her fault she was busy and maybe her new book was so distracting that she only got to bed after midnight last night. Still she knew she could survive through the day all she needed was some coffee which she did have and was now sorted for classes. With a little more energy than before the Hufflepuff entered the Divination classroom and only noticed one thing. That was the stack of things beside the Professor and her desk. Interesting. Except what were these things for? The lesson, right? Because then Ness was half-keen and more excited already. "Morning, Professor." She beamed a smile at the blonde lady. Well a seat then? yep. She headed off and took a seat waiting for the class to start. |
Another Divination lesson. Ella entered the classroom quietly and tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear. She'd been feeling meh lately and it showed on her face though she was doing her best to hide it. "Hello Professor," She greeted as cheerfully as she could manage, giving the woman a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. The blonde then headed for an empty seat quietly. She plopped down, pulled out her notes, and waited for the lesson to start. |
Mack climbed the ladder up to the divination classroom, she was excited to see what they would learn this time... if they had any supplies left in the classroom. Smiling as she enter she spotted Professor Elwood, "Hello Professor! I hope you've been well since our last meeting." The blonde spoke quickly through her nerves, the last time she was in this classroom her parents deaths had been foretold through her tealeaves. The thought made her shudder, they had had the funeral over Christmas Holiday, and now school was back in session, everyone going on about their lives. Even Mack had found some joys since the funeral... like winning Gryffindor's first Quidditch match against Hufflepuff. She took her seat and waited on class to begin, so far she didn't see any of her friends in the classroom. But maybe someone would come in and sit at the table across from her. |
Divinations class, sigh. The last time she had been in this room Professor Elwood had kind of snapped – and there was that whole weird thing with two friends of hers. Everything had been weird during that last class. So she peaked her head into the classroom as she climbed in and just froze there for a moment. What the? Why was there glass slabs, rollers, and rubber…and whatever nameless “Hello Professor Elwood” she smiled, and glanced around for someone to sit with. Someone who wouldn’t get her in trouble – that was a good idea. A very good idea. Glancing around the room she found an empty seat at a table not to far off from Ella. |
Jory happily made his way to Divination class number two. He had very much enjoyed the first lesson and he couldn't wait to see what they would be learning today. "Hiiiiii, Professor!'' he told the lady at her desk. "Hope you're well.'' He took in the weird materials next to her and wondering what on earth they were going to use them for. Oh well. He'd just have to wait. Time to find a seat. |

"How are ya?'' He had missed her. And as usual, he had seen her just yesterday. "I wonder what we'll be learning today,'' the Puffer said as his eyes drifted back to the materials next to Professor Elwood. Boy, was he curious! |
Asher sat quietly, twirling his coal black hair around his index finger. He glanced around the room and wondered if any of the other students noticed how much he needed a haircut. Realizing that a simple hello could put him in better favor with the professor, he glanced up and casually said, "Hi Professor." Now that he had that out of the way, Asher reached for the locket around his neck and once again began daydreaming about what could be inside of it. |
Ahhh. Divination. This class interested Tag so he decided on making his way over rather early. Better to be early rather than late and get points lost. Tag said "Hello Professor!" in a nice greet and then carefully eyed the materials sitting nearby her. Well, whatever it was for it looked quite interesting and perhaps hands on? So maybe the class would be more interesting when actual hands on participation was required. The little blonde found an empty seat and went over to sit on it. |
Divination! Marigold skipped into the classroom. "Hi Professor!" she beamed. Then she spotted Kace and waved to him too. She walked to her seat and waited for class to begin. |
Divination class. Going to classes was like everything Cassia was doing those days....umm maybe because she was in a school. Yup, probably that was the reason. Well, she liked Divination so she wasn't going to complain. Maybe they'd some future exploring and shed'd find out what the upcoming days held for her? Hopefully. Since she had a couple of things she would like finding about. She was just going to hope that this what they were going to do this class. Though as she entered and spotted the items that lay near the Professor, her hopes kinda got crushed. Oh well that's why she didn't get them so up. Smiling with a nod towards the blond Professor, Cassia greeted, "Good Day, Professor," Though the fourth year was curious to find out why they were going to do and wanted badly to ask, she didn't. Being pushy never paid off, all Professors would just answer 'you'll see' maybe it was a Professors' rule. To hold the subject of the lesson as a secret as long as possible. And it sometimes was cool and exciting, other times was just annoying. As all those thoughts formed in her head, the Slytherin was still standing by the Professor's office. She probably should move because it was kinda awkward. So she did. She moved and took a look around the class trying to decide which seat to occupy. Oh it was a big deal. So she walked between seats and measured the distance from the other seats and stuffs. And finally, settled in one. Well, she was going to sit here for a couple of hours and changing location wasn't really a very acceptable thing. |

Ascanius was downright elated for this class. Wanna know why? Heh, yo totally do. It was because the lovely, sensational and exceptionally fit Elwood taught this class. And it was PRETTY obvious that she was partial to him and his face. Smirk. Wink. So walking into the room with a touch Yeah, yeah. He was onto her. So slowly he made his way over to his seat and slid in it. |
.. why was the Slytherin prefect bringing professors ice cream? Not that Alice was particularly bothered by it. Just.. why? Kissing up, perhaps? Would it get her more house points if she started bringing snacks to her instructors from now on, too? She seriously considered it as she slipped into her regular Divination seat by Ascanius and greeted Elwood. "Hi, prof. I assume you're well and all. Especially now that you have ice cream. Unless you don't like ice cream." Or the flavor of ice cream that Duck Boy had brought her. Which was what, exactly? Psh. Duck Boy. If he got the wrong flavor, any proper professor would nick points, Alice knew. |

Uuuuh, ice cream? As in, Daichi bring it to class? A Slytherin prefect bring ice cream to a professor? Okay, now things were getting really weird around here. First the goblins, now this? Sky was actually debating warning Professor Elwood away from the stuff. But, how to do it in such a way that she wouldn't get offended but wouldn't cause a panic....... Oh forget about causing a panic. "Professor Elwood, I wouldn't eat that. Everyone who has has become extremely....... obsessed with it. Like, all they can talk about is ice cream....." Weird, crazy, worrying. And, what was all that stuff on her desk about? |
Eliza bounded into the Divination classroom, ready to learn. She had her parchment and quill and attention span at the ready. However, her attention span did seem to get zapped out a bit whenever the mention of ice cream happened. Like now, when Daichi and that other girl mentioned it. Are we going to have ice cream in here? That would be awesome! They'd had some for the book club meeting after all, so maybe it was going around the school that the students wanted ice cream. And the students should get what the students want. Especially since there were so many other things that students wanted that the students didn't get, so it would only make sense to give them that one beautiful joy in life that was ice cream. Right? She just about danced her way to her seat and gave a friendly little ditty of a greeting to the blonde professor, "Hellooo Professor Elwood! Nice to see you!" She was in a great mood and nothing was going to stop her. She'd bet ten galleons all of her tea leaf readings would be stars and flowers and unicorns if that's what they were doing - because life was good. And so was ice cream. |
Another Divination lesson. "Hello Professor," She greeted cheerfully giving the woman a smile before turning and heading for an empty seat. The blonde then headed for an empty seat. She plopped down into her seat. Swiftly and quietly pulled out her notes, and waited for the lesson to start. |
Tucker walked into the classroom and flashed Elwood a smile. "Hello Professor!" he said happily, eyeing the items she had collected nearby. Hmmm, what on EARTH could they be doing with that stuff? Tea reading had been easy to deduce from the last lesson but this? He had no idea. He took a seat near the front, still eyeing the pile of junk at the front. What the heck was the rubber for? |
Professor Pretty was looking particularly... well... pretty today, and Mo gave her a broad grin as he entered the classroom and chose a spot near the front. Always near the front in this class, if he could help it. And nowhere near Kaiden, who liked to play footsie during this class. "Hullo, Professor. Hope you had a nice holiday." Grin grin grin grin. |
It was time for Divination and Minerva was beyond excited. She loved divination.. LOVE IT!! Skipping steps as she went up to the tower Turning towards her usually seat |
Maaaan, couldn't they provide REAL food and not ice cream every time? West made a face and sat down. Not too near the front. Actually he was very specific with his seating choice, making sure he had a good view of the seat next to Scan, the row behind but y'know, a few seats over. Perfect viewing angle. |
Laura walked into the classroom. "Hello Professor." She gave the Professor a big smile. "You know what would be nice today Professor?" Laura smiled. "Ice-cream, everyone should have ice-cream Professor apparently it is a proven fact that Ice-cream helps to focus the brain." |
SPOILER!!: Daichi The second year old ran as fast as she could to her next class, she had totally forgotten the time when she had been talking to another student she had met in the castle and now she was afraid that she would be too late for her second Divination lesson! Heavily panting she ran into the classroom and saw that she was still on-time. The lesson hasn’t started yet so she could relax some more! “Hello professor” smiled Sonea and looked a little suspicious at the stuff what was standing in the corner of the classroom. “Oh, Daichi, hi!” Smiled Sonea and sat next to him without asking if it was okay for her to company him. |
Elise was in a pretty bad mood to begin with, having woken up late and missed the chance to grab some breakfast before she headed for her first class. Then, she'd read her schedule wrong and gone all the way down to the Potions laboratory before she realized that it was a Thursday and not a Tuesday. Divination, not Potions. Grumbling under her breath, Elise trudged up all seven flights of stairs and eventually made it to the Divination Tower. Lovely. "G'day Professor Elwood." Not that she was having a particularly nice one but it didn't mean no one else could. Then, she flopped herself into a chair and tried not to sleep. She was sleepy and sleep deprived and should probably have stopped reading before midnight but no, she just had to go on and read chapters of Herbology in advance. Now, she was just exhausted and sleepy. Yawn. |
Sigh. Another lesson yet for the day. Good thing it was Divination...or Beezus would actually have thought of ditching it. This day had been rather unpleasant for the Ravenclaw. Not only had it been full of stress, homeworks and ragged lectures all the while, her own body wasn't even cooperating. Side effects....she supposed. She sighed once again but quickly cracked up a smile when she greeted the Professor. "Hello, maa'm." And as she tucked some hair behind her ear, the brunette bounded over to take a seat and waited for class to begin. |
HE. WAS. LATE. This... was not the way to start off. And this was Divination, you know. He actually wanted to come to this lesson and was actually looking forward to it. Sort of. As long as they weren't going to get any more weird tea leaf readings. There had been enough of those in the previous homework assignment. But despite being sort of late -- or was he? -- the boy still entered the classroom with a wide grin spread across his face. Because there was a lot to be happy about, yeah? Even if this was a class that was a long way away from important things like the Great Hall and ice cream. Especially ice cream. Maybe there should be ice cream stands stationed on each floor... ... Ice cream... Shaking his head, the sixteen year old grinned over towards the blonde haired Professor. "Hello Professor! It's great to see you!" And... there were weird items next to her. Items to do with the lesson or...? ... Shrug. He turned away and headed over towards an empty seat near the middle of the classroom. He sat down and started pulling out his things from his bag, a smile still playing across his lips. It was going to be a GOOD lesson. Nodnod. |
Hop. Hop. Hop. She wasn't late so there was no real point in rushing to class. Nah, for now she'd hop. It was more fun and you kicked started your brain by doing that. It was like a medical fact or something and if not...well she just made it one and it was doing wonders for her and all this extra energy she had to burn. She came to a stop when she got to the class and took in everything curiously. So many neat things, would they get to play with them or were they just for show? Maybe she could ask to keep a few? "Hello Professor!" BEEEAM. "You look lovely today!" But then, what did she know? She was hardly focusing on any one thing for too long. Her attention was darting around the room, taking in everything and everyone. Ice-cream soon? |
Not excited for this class, Aliza strolled into the room. Divination has never exactly been Aliza's favorite class, but she had to take it so she decided to push through as well as she could. "Good Day Professor" she said with a slight smile, then headed towards an available seat |
Aidan always felt cool going to Divination. Not because of the actual subject, but because he was aware of the effort the other houses had to make to get to the tower, while his common room was so close. Of course, it was nothing he'd done personally, but he always walked into class with a smug attitude and smile to go along. Today was no exception. Only once inside, the smugness was replaced by genuine excitement. "What's THAT?!" he asked, pointing at all the THINGS on the professor's desk. What did they DO? Were they going to use them? Were they going to MAKE something with them?! DID THEY GET TO BREAK STUFF WITH THEM?!! He wasn't sitting until he got ANSWERS. |
Finally starting the lesson ; thanks for sticking with me and SS A great turnout today, it seemed like she didn't have anyone missing which was good. Callie smiled and nodded at each student as they greeted her and even the ones The Divination Professor was also excited to see the looks of curiosity and bewilderment the students were giving the items sitting on the desktop beside her and it made her only that more ready to begin. SPOILER!!: Ice Cream Fangirls/Fanboys One of the first few people to enter the class though didn't just have a causal greeting. The Slytherin Prefect apparently decided to cater the day's lesson. She looked at him and then to the Syltherin girl warning her against eating it. Callie had no intention of eating the stuff, besides she had eaten a lot lately and would rather not ingest the extra calories. "Thank you Prefect Katheros and Miss Carter-Hope. I wouldn't care for any ice cream," Airey and Medea were loopy enough as it was for her taste. "but I won't take the stuff away from the rest of the class since you brought it." Quote:
She laughed lightly looking at the stuff and simply said. "Ink, glass slabs, and rubber Mr. Stone. You'll see soon enough what we will use them for." ------ "Okay everyone, if I can have your attention up here we will begin the day's lesson." She stood from her chair and walked around to the front of her desk, arms raised for attention. Good. Placing her wand on the table beside the activity items the blonde spoke again. "Think back to our final lesson last term where we learned about Tarot Cards; and for those of you knew to Hogwarts this term, perhaps you've read that chapter in your textbooks?" They definitely should have. EYES. "Does anyone remember how the classical elements related to the suits of the Minor Arcana?" |
Ella thought back to last term and tapped her chin thoughtfully. What was it about the Minor Arcana and the elements that they had learned? Oh! The suites each represented one of the elements, yeah? She thought that was it. Now if she could only think of an example. Hmmm. "Professor? I believe each of the Minor Arcana cards is linked to an element so, for example, the cups represent the element of water." |
La la laa. Doodling on the edge of our parchment. Little random doodles. Distracting our self form the lesson. Oh wait. The Professor had asked a question. Clement had to think about this answer. Last term was a long time ago, and his memory was not all that good. Too many bludgers to the head clearly. But he did eventually think about it. Working out his answer in his head, he raised his hands. "The cards of the minor arcana are split into 4 suits...which in turn relate to the 4 elements. So for example the element of air corresponds to Swords." |
Quote:
Okay, focus Lex. Answer the question first. Ask about the ice-cream second. They were discussing Tarot Cards--oh hey, she remembered those!! She got to create her own! She remembered the story she made too! Good 'ole ant. She stuck her hand in the air, waving around like she normally did and she didn't fall off her seat either. Impressive, huh? "I remember! Each suit is associated with another element oh and they match to muggle suits too" She had to mention the last bit because it was something she'd read and well, everyone knew Lex didn't do that very often so it was being put out there. "But anyway, the elements. The wand matches to the element of fire, the coin goes with earth, cups go with water and the sword goes with the air element." |
Text Cut: Professor! Attention? Okay! Tarot Cards! Those were AWESOME, they were! He was secretly hoping that they'd come up in the OWLs and they were asked to interpret them. Alec grinned a little and sat up a little straighter. Now... what had they learnt about the Minor Arcana and how was it related to the classical elements? ... OH! "Erm... Professor!" Hand!raise. "See, the Minor Arcana are split up into four suits and there are four elements and each of the suits match up with each of the elements, in a way," He was sure that that was right... "For example... Fire corresponds with Wands because... the Wands cards represent creativity and awakening and that's all the things that Fire represents too! And they're both considered to be magical..." Or... something. |
Text Cut: Professor Elwood The Slytherin sat in her seat calmly her eyes fixed on the items near the professor. Nope, she hadn't figured out what they might be for. Or what how would they be used in Divination, anyway. Though that didn't worry her, she wasn't that good at guessing anyway. So it'd be better if she waited. Also, Aidan-Lex's friend- already asked and didn't get an answer And lesson started. It means they were closer to know. Cassia took a couple of minutes to process the answer then she raised her hand and answered. "The minor Arcana contains 56 cards and they are divided to four suits, and each suit represents an element," That was just a recap,"The suits of Cups is related to Water," She knew that one by heart. Because cups..water, duh! "And suits of Swords is related to air," Aaaand she didn't really remember the others. So hopefully those would do. |
Asher had no idea what the Professor was talking about. How could he be expected to know something from last term? And read the book BEFORE class. That wasn't going to happen either. He did enjoy Divination, but not enough to give up playing outside or, for heavens sake, sleep. Not wanting to sound like a complete fool, he decided to chime in after a few of the other students responded, "that sounds right to me. Cups and water, wands and fire." |

SPOILER!!: Fit Professor Lady Beautiful Professor Lady say what? Yeah, see this face didn't DO words like that. He honestly had no idea what she was talking about, but figured that was cool. Ahem, look at him. He knew that she certainly was. Wink. It was okay. He understood. She wouldn't have been the first older woman to appreciate his face. It was a nice face, yeah? Smirk. So, with that in mind he kept his smirk almost glowing and leaned back in his seat to wait and watch for her to move onto stuff in the lesson. Hopefully stuff he wasn't completely clueless about. Not that he was EVER clueless ever. Exceptional charming and on top of his stuff? Always. |
Wasn't it rude to refuse a gift? His mother and father always told him that when you get something you either accept it and thank them and sometimes give something back as well. But when none of these things happened the Prefect wibbled his lower lip a little. "Oh..alright professor" WIBBLE! "Professor?! Since you don't want the AMAZING FANTASTIC ice cream? Can i SHARE it with the class?" Cause sharing was happiness~! "I don't know how to conjure bowls though..." hmmm... He sat down on one of the chairs and raised his hand in the air when the first question came up. "Wands have the element of f-f-fire" he stuttered the word fire, shivered and then continued. "Cups have the element of water . Sword air and...." .....what was that last one again? The Slytherin thought and thought. It was on the tip of his tongue! Fire, water, air oh! "I only remember the element earth.." |
Well the word Minor Arcana was alright. Not to sure about the cards unless the pictures were also awesome. But Nigel was postitive the Major Arcana was better. Nigel knew less about the Minor than Major. "So what about The Major Arcana." Nigel just felt like leaving a vague question because he knew nothing about the minor one. Please you only pay attention to the Big Leagues. The Majors is so much better than the Minors. |
Tarot cards... huh. Nope. Derry had absolutely no idea about anything to do with that stuff. She knew there'd been that girl in her class back in muggle school who used to carry them round, but that was about it. She'd only managed to glance across the chapter in her book - she thought Divination was a bit wishy wash to be honest - and she'd been busy with her transfiguration research. So instead of embarrassing herself, she just stayed quiet and took notes as other people said things... Hmm... Arcana was a good word. Arcaaaaana. |

Did West remember? He thought about it for a second, put his hand up, and kept his answer simple. ".... yes." Yes he did remember. Because that was what she'd asked. |
Yo Tobias had no idea what classical elements of the what and the where now was all about, in fact he wasn't entirely sure that he'd even read up on that stuff in his text book yet. There was just a lot of words and Tobias did NOT have the patience for it. But he figured he knew what Tarot cards were... some lady on the pier had once done a reading for him for free. The pictures were awesome! Whilst everyone else got to answering, Tobias himself sneaked a peak at his text book to see if he could see anything in there that could give him some idea of what to say in response to a future question. Sometimes being little in a world of tall people had its advantages. |
Tarot cards. Classical elements. Minor Arcana. All of these words made Tag's head go fuzzy. And, to be honest, he did not remember any of them or any information about them. So, rather than attempting a wild guess and embarrassing himself he just stared at all his classmates answering. His mouth slightly opened and his face scrunched up as he paid attention to everyone else. Listening was participation? Yes. |
Alice... didn't know the answer to this question. Did they talk about this last term? Had they gone over this before? Because she didn't remember. Were they going to ask questions about elements on OWLs? She looked around and listened to other people answer first, and it kind of started making some more sense. "I remembered, too, professor." She totally did. Clearly, it was before people had already said the answer. Clearly. |
They were beginning?! Well, finally... Dylan had almost fallen asleep but since Professor Elwood was up and moving now...he was up. Yaaaaaaaawn. What was the question? Hmm? ... Yea. West had mentioned this in the first lesson. Dylan remembered because he'd given Odessa a look. Odessa had been...Odessa'ing people... "Oh yea. I remember West mentioning this in the first lesson...." TROLL FACE. He flipped back in his notes and pointed at the section he'd jotted down due to his Chaser's brilliance. It was always smart to take notes on West. He knew things. Also...why was everyone mentioning what the elements were...and what they went to? That hadn't been asked. |
Kace remembered reading about it briefly but he didn't remember much. Maybe it was the part of doing quidditch all the time? Or possibly not getting enough sleep. He saw the insides of his eyelids more than the textbook. But he heard the other student's answers and he agreed with them. He really had no idea what was going on in the class. But hey that was why he was here right? He stood there listening intently to all the older students and making notes in his notebook. |
Taylor looked at the teacher then fiddled with her hair before raising her hand. "Something about each element has a piece of a suite or something, right?" Yeah, she hadnt been paying much attention lately... |
Marigold didn't quite recall much about Tarot cards, only that there are four suits. "There are four suits, Professor," Hopefully the suits were ice cream flavors... that would be an awesome class. |
Minerva was listening.. She really was, wasn't she? Her eyes might have been towards the front some what. She heard last term, she heard class, she heard cards...see listening. She was biting her lip and and bouncing her feet with anticipation. Was it anticipation for the lesson? One would hope so, but probably not, no her eyes were focused on one thing at the moment and it was that ice cream. Oh and Daichi asked if the class could have some. PLEASE SAY YES... PLEEEEAAASEEE SAY YES!!! But Professor Elwood said a question, what was that question again. Without thinking she put her hand up. "Yeah.. yeah.. what everyone else said. That's it.. That's the right answers.. soo umm can we have that?" pointing to the ice cream, because she would most likely, probably, hopefully focus better once this was off her mind and in her belly.. |
Hmmm. Mo scuffed his shoes against the floor as he considered the question and tried NOT to think about Professor Pretty kissing Professor Airey-head at that party. It was like someone stabbing him repeatedly with a rusty cold spoon right in the ol' heart. Or no... no, it was just sad. "Also, I remember West saying that some have drawn a correlation between the four suits, the four elements, and the four Hogwarts houses." |
Quote:
So they might get to have ice cream in class after all?! That was her not so secret wish and it might even come true! This day just kept getting better and better! And she did remember the tarot card things, a little. But she wouldn't mention that it was only a little. Where had her notes gone to anyway...? She wasn't sure. But then Mo spoke up and some sort of bell went off in her head. "Oo, Professor, I remember that about them too. Yeah, the minor arcana have four suits, and four elements, and they match up with the four houses. Ravenclaw is air for example, so swords would be our suit." It was all coming back to her now. She knew the other houses too, but she decided to let Professor Elwood ask for more details if she really wanted them. For now, Eliza sat staring at Daichi's ice cream and wishing she'd brought her school bowl so that she could replicate it for everyone. |
Good, at least someone had the good sense to stay away from the ice cream stuff. And before anyone asked, no she didn't want any either. Nope, nuh-uh. Good, Professor Elwood was starting class. She had wonder, though, if some of her classmates had cotton stuffed in their ears. Because the question was if they remembered, right? Not for proof that they did. So, keep it simple, stupid. Which if Sky was being truthful, she didn't. Not that she would admit it out loud. "Yes," she lied. Hey, it wasn't like she was on the witness stand |
The professor didn't want the ice cream? Ronnie eyed the tub of ice cream on the desk. Could she have it, then? YUMM. It looked so good. She was so tempted to run up there and grab it and huddle in a corner and eat it. But class had started and...that would just be weird. Sighing, Ronnie began to doodle a cartoon dragon in her open notebook, half listening to the professor as she spoke until a question was asked. She glanced up as people began raising hands and saying answers. She slowly closed her notebook and hoped the professor hadn't noticed. Uh.. Doodling? Who? Ronnie? Hahahahaha. Nooo. Don't be silly... Right. The tarot card...thingys. She raised her hand and cleared her throat. AHEM. "The cards are all divided into four suits, professor," she began with a small nod. "And all of them represent elements." she finished, not sure if that was it or not. Um. It sounded close to what everyone else was answering. She couldn't remember the exact elements and objects and whatnot, really...but...yeah. At least she half-answered the question. Better than nothing! |
Oooh. The lesson had begun, which meant it was time to focus. Quil in hand, the red head listened to the Professor. Final lesson last term....erm...yeah she didn't remember much. Mellow. Not good considering NEWTs were only getting closer. With a pout Renesmee attempted to refresh her memory, but nope...nothing came until the others spoke first, but still not much she remembered. Maybe it was better she sat then?Yep..she'd answer the next one. |
Divination.... easily not one of Lily's best subjects nor her favorite, even though she liked the professor. Nonetheless, the fifth year was present in the lesson and was sorta paying attention. Was this question seriously referring to the previous term's lessons? Wouldn't that have made more sense for the first Divination lesson of this term? Lily thought as she doodled a bit on her parchment. It was those card thingies that did what again? Too bad she didn't remember anything, so Lily just sat quietly listening to her classmates answer. |
Laura looked around, she wanted some ice-cream and she wanted everyone to have some but alas she didn't have any. "I'm sorry Professor, I have no idea what the answer is to the question." Laura sighed, she liked Divination and she was sad when she couldn't answer the question. |
It was nice being in this class and Peyton had her mighty I'm-so-paying-attention face on. She remembered what Elwood was taking about so she nodded. Peyton also remembered her tarot card she made. Merlin it was so...cute. With the...yeah, and the...yeah. Resting her chin on her palm, Peyton listened to what her classmates had to say. Though, the ice cream was the most interesting thing in class right now. In fact, her green-gray eyes were on it right now. |
Mackenzie couldn't answer the professor's question she really didn't understand the tarot cards. So instead she listened to everyone else's answer and wrote down a few of their answers in her notes so that maybe she could get a better understanding. Hopefully the Professor would go over tarots again and she would understand this time. |
..... Oooooookay. Professor Elwood was seeing a lot of blank stares after her question which told her that many of them didn't remember everything about the correlation of the suits of tarot cards and classical elements; or in some cases any of it. SPOILER!!: Responses Quote:
"Like those of you who remembered from the last lesson on Tarot, for those of you who didn't please get this in your notes, we learned that each card suit matches with a classical element. Wands goes with Fire, Cups with Water, Pentacles/Coins are for Earth and Swords match with Wind. Why I praised Mr. Branxton's mention of an old answer of Mr. Odessa's, was because he mentioned that these suits aren't limited to match only one thing." She paused to let that sink in for a second. "So far we've seen that they can match with elements and even Hogwarts houses. Today we will learn about something else that they match with." She raised her hand and held it out to show them. "Raise your hand about a foot from your face, palm side facing you and examine it. It's no doubt pretty different than those belonging to your classmates." "Hand types also correspond to the suits of the Tarot Minor Arcana. "The air hand is characterized by having long, thin fingers, with a square palm. The Earth hand is usually characterized with a squarish palm, and short fingers deeply carved lines in it." She paused and then continued, hoping they were all writing this down. "The fire hand has a squarish palm which is usually longer in length than their short fingers. And last but not least the water hand. What are the characteristics of a water hand?" They could use the process of elimination to figure it out, their textbook or previous knowledge. She had faith in them. |
Tobias perked up a bit as the prfoessor elaborated. Matching? With the houses? OOH WHICH ONE WAS HUFFLEPUFF? He actually sat up a little straighter when she gave them an activity. Movement was always good. He held up his palm and kinda sorta guesstimated how far away a foot was and staaaaaaaaaaaaaaared at his hand. Yep. That was definitely his hand. He listened to the explanation and tilted his head slightly, still examining his hand. HMMMMMMM. Which one was him? Tobias, however, was completely lost with the question, so he went with his go-to method of just going with the flow. Raising the hand that had been in front of his face, Tobias gave his answer. "A wet hand?" |
Okay, so the professor had been looking for something more specific than 'yes'. Duly noted. And now they were being asked to examine their palms because, appearently, each suit not only matched an element, but a hand type named after an element. This was why Sky had never put much stock in divination. All this sounded rather ridiculous to her. So, when they were asked what a water hand looked like, she couldn't help but answer, "Wrinkly." Because that's what hands looked like when they've been in water too long. |
Blink. Tag simply stared at the Professor as she described different hands. Slowly he held out his hand in front of him and examined it a few minutes before realizing she was asking a question. The little lion took a wild guess. " Ummm square palm, long fingers and deep carved lines?" he said slowly as he continued to look at his hands. It was the best answer he could come up with. Soon he feared that his answer sounded a bit like what Professor Elwood had last described, in terms of hands. |
Quote:
And now stuff about hands. "Water hands have short sorta oval palms that are usually wider than they are long, their fingers are long and flexible and are equal to the height of the palm." He offered up, with HIS hand in the air. More detail in this answer because... well, the professor had actually asked for it. He thought it was right. Ish. Might've made some of it up. |
Maybe he was being a bit sarcastic. But he would take her up on that offer and research the Major Arcana. Nigel was just about to say the same thing as the first year hufflepuff. Who block most of his shots. A water hand would be a wet hand. Logic is Logic. Another Logically assumption would be water. But he did not want to be Sarcastic Boy. So he would not answer. Plus West said it as perfect as he possibly could anyway. He took out his text book and looked up Major Arcana. She did say he could, after all. |
They were talking about hands--palms really and suits, she was getting all of this...sorta. Her eyes kept darting around the room as if she was expecting something epic or cold. If the Professor brought them ice-cream this lesson then she would forever love her. Like legit. Ice-cream was a deciding factor in these things. She was asking about the last hand, the water element one, Kitty!Tobias' answer had her snickering and she tried listening to everyone else's as well. Her hands began scribbling as she absentmindedly took down everything everyone was saying. When she heard the actual answer she would simply run a line through the ones that were obviously wrong. Most of her attention fell on Daichi and that ice-cream of his. Wasn't he planning to share? She couldn't ask right now because the Professor was expecting answers to a question. It'd have been odd to be talking if she wasn't making an attempt at the question. The Gryffindor felt so torn. Maybe she could scribble him a note? Ahem. But she was paying attention, she totally was. |
Asher listened as the Professor told them about hands/palms. He stared at his, wondering if his fingers were sort or long, fat or thin, and if his palms contained any hidden messages. Remembering that he was supposed to be answering a question, "Water hands, long fingers, oval palm, not many lines?" Focusing back on his own, he decided that he had Earth hands. |
What they said. Was that a decent answer? Alice wasn't quite sure what a water hand looked like, so instead of offering an explanation, she asked a question instead. "Can other creatures have palm types too, professor?" She listed to a few more answers before piping up with another question. "Like merpeople. And leprechauns and goblins and elves and things. Can you tell if their hands go to a certain element?" This was confusing. Hmph. |
Ice cream? Blink. Did no one else see this? The blonde GRINNED at Daichi and eyed her bowl eagerly. Yum. Yum. Yum. BEAM! Heh. A wet hand? Tobias!Cutie pie earned a smile for that one though Ella was sure that wasn't what Professor Elwood was looking for. At least he was trying. Grin! As for the answer to the question, lots of people had already answered and Ella didn't want to repeat answers. Instead she took some notes and beamed and bounced cause ice cream and she was happy, okay? Yup. Scribble. Scribble. Scribble. |
As Kace was drifting off in divination, he heard the professor beginning the lesson. He snapped out of his trance. He was quite good at dazing but then again being alert at the same time. She was talking about hand types dealing with the elements. He was quite curious what his was. He was examining his for a bit till he heard the professor ask a question. What were the characteristics of a water hand? He heard Tobias answer and that seemed logical to Kace. He chuckled at that answer. It was simple yet smart enough to get by. He appreciated that. It seemed like an answer that Nigel would say. He didn't wanna repeat any other of the students answers, so he just sat there diligently and recorded some of the answers in his notebook. Scratch....Scratch....Scratch....and more scratching...... Which one would be the right answer? |
Mo stared down at his own hands, trying to figure out which of the descriptors the professor had used so far best fit him. None of them? Did that make him a water palm or whatever? He raised his hand. "Professor, water hands are long-fingered, with an oblong palm. Sorta... like the air palm but more rounded." Also... he sort of mentally forgave her for smooching with Flamsteed since she'd praised him. Sort of, at least. |
Mika blinked at the information for a minute before she moved to jot it all down. Scribbling as fast as her hand – and quill could move. SCRIBBLE- scraping sound - SCRIBBLE – scraping sound – SCRIBBLE…there, her notes were done. She beamed, at her handiwork and looked up at Professor Elwood as she asked about water hands. Water hands? There was one guess – they probably are the outlier in the group and don’t feature a square palm. Listening to the answers she waited before raising her own hand. ”Professor do the water hands have an oval shape to them…guessing that because water is easier to pick up in a rounded thing then well, with a square.” |
"Ma'am, I just thought you were asking if we'd heard about them....Not specifics." ...because obviously Dylan knew what they were and what they related to. He was one of the smart kids in this lesson, after all. Not the smartest...because that was West...but definitely top five. Moving on... Doing as the Professor instructed, the Captain lifted his hand up and held it out in front of his face...and then she was going on about how to tell which palm went to what element. From her brief descriptions, Dylan figured he probably had an air palm...which seemed totally legit with his love of flying and all......but given what he knew about water palms from the textbook, he could probably also relate it to water. "An oblong palm with long fingers...Oblong being more rectangular than the aformentioned square..." He eyed his palm some more... "It's hard to tell with mine." |
Text Cut: Elwood! THEY GOT ICE CREAM? REALLY? The blonde woman got grins -- BIG GRINS -- from the sixteen year old and a small two finger salute. Because ICE CREAM! They actually got to eat ice cream in a class and HE WAS REALLY HAPPY NOW. He took hold of the bowl and placed it down near the centre of the table. Couldn't have the ice cream falling on the floor, can we? NOPE. Oh... they were doing some hand... exercise thing. Alec reluctantly tore his eyes away from the bowl of ice cream and looked up to see what the Professor was doing. He held up his hand to where he thought a foot away from his face would be and stared at his palm. Erm... how was he meant to tell these things? To him, his hand was, well, his hand. It was useful for picking up the spoon to eat his ice cream and to catch the Snitch and just for being his hand. Shaking his head, the boy let out a small chuckle at Tobias's answer before scribbling down what the other were saying about a water hand. He placed his quill down and held up his hand about a foot away from his face, observing it some more. Which... hand type... ... He was confused now. All because of his hand and what type it was. BLINK. |
Notes. Yes she was taking them done just like in every other class. She refused to miss even an inch of important information because NEWTs were coming closer and closer. SO MORE NOTES YES. ALWAYS. Buuut copy the professor with the whole hand thing. She did that and could almost immediately tell what kind of hands she had. Air. For definite her fingers were skinny and almost exactly as how Professor Elwood described an air hand to be. This question though, based on water hands. She thought about that. Hmmmmm..what could be associated with that? Few words came into Nessie's mind and it was all guesses, but worth a try right? Because saying something was better than saying nothing again and these guesses in the Puffs opinion were pretty decent ones. Raise hand then. "Professor, I'd say water hands would be soft because water reminds me of moist and sweat which usually causes softness." That made sense? Yep? Cause that's all she had. |
Text Cut: Elwood Cassia raised her hand and stared examining her own hand wondering what type of hand was hers. Her palm was...normal. Weren't all palms? But she was going to say hers was kinda squarish. And her fingers were thin but not too long neither were short. Relative to the size of her hand. Though, this wasn't the question which Professor Elwood wanted answered, no? Before Cassia thought about the water hands, she wrote down some notes on the hands' types. Interesting information and might be in exam which make them more interesting. By the time she finished scribbling, many had answered the question. She didn't have many information and what she knew wasn't going to add anything new so she decided to not speak. And just smile at the Hufflepuff firstie's answer. His made sense, no? Then back to examining her hand. She really wasn't yet sure of what type it was. Could it be a mix of two? Naaaaaah. |
Peyton remembers reading something about this. She mulled it over until she was sure she had it, then raised her hand. "Water hands are short and oval and usually with fingers equal to the height of the palm," she said, totally happy she remembered this. The redhead studied her palm. What kind of hand did she have? Hmm. Hmm. |
Sitting behind her desk she stared not so interested at the professor, she had lost her interest for the lesson because he now was a little tired. She had stayed up for too long, but she had actually done something good, she had studied and had forgotten to keep track on the time, and now she started to feel the lack of sleep. She made slowly a few notes but didn’t looked to enthusiastic while she worked. She also didn't answered his question, just because she didn't wanted to. |

"I will have to research that before I can give a definite answer but my guess would be that they do have hand types like us, even if they are not the exact same." If she didn't have information on it perhaps she could have Leo help her find it. Hopefully she would find out because Callie would love to test it out if she could get her hands on a House Elf! SPOILER!!: Silly Answers "Wet, wrinkly, and soft because of perspiration?" Professor Elwood looked at the two Hufflepuffs and Slytherin who answered her question with those rather odd adjectives. Not close but at least they gave some effort, no matter how lame it had been. "No, those are not legitimate characteristics of the water hand in respects to the term in Divination." She shook her head, but smiled just the same. The answers had provided for some entertainment for herself and the other students after all. Quote:
SPOILER!!: Correct or mostly correct answers! The majority of the other students who had chosen to voice characteristics they believed to belong to the water hand were for the most part correct. "Very good. The set list of characteristics we will be using for reference on the water hand will be that they have long, thin fingers, and a roundish more oval shaped palm." Now that that was settled they could move along. "Now that we know the basic characteristics for each type of hand I want you all to begin thinking about what type your own hands fall into." They had already been doing that probably but there were a few students were rather distracted today. "Continue to observe your hands as well please." The blonde gave them all a thumbs-up and just watched them for a second. Did they wonder what she was doing? Yes, no? Oh well. "The thumb, one factor that sets primates above other animals and also very important in the study and practice of Palmistry or Cheirology. Can someone tell me and the rest of the class what the length of the thumb suggests about a person?" |
Ella was staring at her hand just as she was asked, see? She was listening too cause class and the sixteen year old didn't know any of this stuff besides what she'd read about in her text book. She clearly wasn't an expert or anything. Length of the thumb? Well Ella really wanted to point out that you could give a really awesome thumbs up depending on the length but she kept that bit to herself. Instead, she tried to remember what she'd read about Palmistry. "I think the length has something to do with success?" Or like...the drive to succeed or something? Ella wasn't completely sure but she thought she'd read something like that. Maybe. |
Yeah, okay. Sky really didn't want to answer that question, because of reasons, but she did open her book to the chapter on Palmistry and began to skim it. Though that wasn't doing her much good, considering that it seemed there were many different things that the thumb said about a person. So, summarization? "It tells the person's basic personality." Because that's what she'd gotten out of her skimming. Annd....studying her palm now. |

"Will you tell me results and findings and stuff about it after you research things, professor?" And. Andddd. Also. Just wondering. "Do I get bonus points for asking a question that stumps you?" That sounded awesome to Alice. She grinned a toothy, toothy grin at Elwood, then continued studying her hand. Length of her thumb? Nah, she had nothing. |
THEY COULD EAT ICE CREAM?! YAAAAAY! If Daichi could have he would have jumped out of his chair and HUGGED the professor. But he didn't... no point in losing points right? He watched with a gleeful expression how the bowls were conjured and he happily scooped up some of his ice cream before passing the bucket to someone else. BUT..why were people grinning at the Professor?! it was HIS ice cream that he shared! MAJOR!POUT! He did caught Ella's grin though and he waved at her before turning his attention to class again. Having missed the previous question because he had been too busy with eating the ice cream, Daichi raised his hand on the next one though. "It tells your health and behaviour?" he asked. Mweh he wasn't sure if it was right or not but atleast he was paying attention~! |
Maybe answering wasn't a good thing, but then nobody could be right everytime unless they were some genius or something. She wasn't that, but she did try her best at everything she could. Air hand, she had decided that before. That was her hand, and even observing it a second time she could see more so how air-like it was. So that she didn't have to worry about, if they were some activity later on with thier hands, she knew for sure what hers was. BUT question. Thumbs? Yeah no...she didn't know this one, so she was just listening and taking notes down. ...till a question of her own popped in her mind. With her hand raised she began addressing the Professor. "Professor?" Poooooout. "What would happen if someone was born without fingers, lets say a thumb or something like that? Or even without any hands." That was possible, no? So what would they do? This badger was curious. |
Sarah was quite enjoying the absurdity of all this. What kind of hands did yshe have? She looked down she had long fingers and her palm was not ssqwuare.. or was it? Was she fire air or water? She did not knownor did she care.. Thumbs.. she raised her hand "maybe it determines how they GRASP information... y'know as the thumb helps us grasp things. Or maybe how controlling they are as thumbs help people grip..." she loved how this class helped her excersice her creativity. |
Text Cut: Elwood! Elwood was giving them a thumbs up? Had they done that well at figuring out their hand types or...? ... Oh! No! Thumbs. And Palmistry. What did the length of the thumb suggest about a person? "Professor?" he said, raising his hand in the air, "Does it have anything to do with ambition? The longer the thumb, the more ambitious the person?" Was that it or...? Also, his hand? And its type? Alec held it up about a foot away from his face and stared at his palm again. Okay... if his palm wasn't round/ovalish shape, then that meant that it wasn't Water, yeah? He drew a small cross next to that sentence in his notes before looking at the others. Elimination process. That would help find out what his hand type- EARTH! He was... going to go with that for now. |
Nigel just smirked at the question and answered. "Does it suggest the person is Strong and Healthy." Nigel tried very hard not to laugh at the question and did not know if he succeeded or not. He knew he was being immature. But it was too funny. Ignorance is Bliss, after all. |
It took for a while for her to come to the realization that the class had continued and there was now another question to be answered. Another question she didn't know the answer to but see...the Professor might have noticed her zoning out earlier and zoning out twice wouldn't have been very impressive. She leaned forward in her seat and tried looking as attentive as possible, eyes falling on Daichi's ice-cream on the odd occasions. Self-control, she had it...for the most part. Think Lex, this was palm reading. What would you want to know that you'd be so desperate as to ask one of the many body parts that wasn't meant for talking? Slowly she raised her hand. It wasn't waving around this time, she was hardly sure she was willing to answer but again, zoning out twice, no. "Could it maybe tell you what kind of person someone is? Like you could walk up to them, spot the thumb and know 'oh I should avoid this one' or 'this one's awfully generous, I can mooch candy off them'?" Could palm reading do that??? She wanted to tell who would give her candy and who wouldn't!! That'd be EPIC. |
Kace was still starring off into space today. He really had NO attention for this class today. I mean can you blame him? He was tired and learning to juggle everything. He was really tired for some reason. But he was still alert. Now they were learning about Palm Reading? Hmmm....interesting. This was gonna be an interesting class. He was flipping through his textbook for some answer. He was gonna participate and he found an answer he needed to question "Professor is it true that if the thumb naturally hides within the palm, then the person is usually fearful and full of anxiety?" I mean it dealt along the lines with the thumb aspect. He shrugged but at least he proved to the professor he was attentive. |

West stuck his hand up. "Long thumbs are good with decision making and, depending which part of the thumb is long, it indicates the balance of willpower and logic in a person." West was kinda skeptical about that though. |
