The beginning of term was upon them and even though the first week or so had already passed and everyone was practically settled in, the first Divination lesson of the term had yet to happen. Today was the day though and the trapdoor to the classroom was open and the ladder was lowered.
Professor Elwood sat excitedly at her desk by the chalkboard awaiting the students. The room was set up like it usually was, a few seats around little tables among the risers; the windows opened up to allow what slight breeze there was to flow in. What other point was there to be in a tower classroom?
The cutbacks the rest of the Castle seemed to be having didn't seem to have effected this room, at least on the surface. Go ahead and take a seat while you wait for the Professor to start the lesson.
**The lesson has now STARTED. If you post your student entering now it will result in a POINTS LOSS. If you'd like to join, just rp your character as if they've been there the whole time.
As Kace was waiting for his cup to cool down, he looked at his notebook to see what other steps he needed to follow...
SPOILER!!: The Steps!
Step One: Flip cup over onto piece of parchment and then trace outside rim of the cup to create the 'saucer' out of the area made by doing this (Leaves on saucers don't have much purpose on their beginner readings without "real" saucers"). Retrieve 1 teaspoon of tea leaves from boxes at each table.
Step Two: Fill cup 3/4 full with hot water from cauldrons and add tea leaves.
Step Three: Allow tea to brew for 2 minutes. Clear your mind and meditate. No talking please.
Step Four: Let tea cool a bit and then drink. Try not to swallow many leaves. If you are right-handed, lift your cup with your left. If left-handed, drink with your right. If ambidextrous, reach for your cup, stop, and then use the other hand.
Once relaxed, identify the issue foremost in your mind. As you attempt to think of nothing in particular, is there a stubborn thought that keeps returning to your attention? If so, that is the subject of this reading. Focus on that thought. If nothing in particular comes to mind, then this will be a general tea leaf reading. Focus on your breath and the taste of the tea.
Leave a small amount of tea at the bottom of your cup.
Step Five: Hold your nearly empty teacup in your hand and give it three good swirls. The tea leaves will disperse around the interior of cup. Gently dump out the remaining liquid by turning your teacup over into a saucer.
Wait at least three breaths before turning your cup back over.
Step Six: Because your cup has no handle, begin reading from 12 o'clock. Make a notation of the first symbol you see. Mentally divide the cup into three sections: rim, middle and base.
Rim - area is above the tea level when you first poured your tea represents the current moment in time.
Middle - area between the rim and bottom, represents near future (2 weeks)
*Both the rim and middle section represent influences in your outcome.
Base - The bottom of the cup below the middle section, represents the ultimate answer or conclusion.
Step Seven: Look up recorded symbols in Textbook and record your reading results.
So Kace had to drink the tea and leave a little at the bottom. He smelt it first and it smelt horrible. He probably shouldn't have done that. The professor said they should plug their nose. That is a good idea. He also had to drink with his left hand? Hm that seemed weird. He would do it anyway.
Once he had a clear mind and did not think of anything, he put the cup to his lips and closed his eyes and drank with his left hand since he was a righty. After he drank it and did not drink too much tea leaves, he realized it was a general tea reading.
He focused on his breathing and the taste of the tea. He did not like the taste but he dealt with it. He held it and gave it three good swirls and he saw it swishing in the cup. Then he dipped it over into the place he traced and then he waited three breaths.
Haruka held the cup in her hand and swirled the remaining tea around in the cup to disperse the leaves. One swirl, two swirls, three swirls. Then she turned the cup over onto the parchment saucer to drain the remaining tea out. Three breaths before turning the cup back over. And flip!

SPOILER!!: notes
Rim of the cup: Lamb, anchor.
Middle: Dragon, nail
Base: rabbit, ring.
Glancing at her notes she quickly pushed the soggy parchment and the cup away as she pulled the textbooks forward. Yep, she was ready to find out what her reading meant. Really, read, very ready. Opening the book she began to flip to the letter L…yep, she had to find lamb first off. She was just glad lamb started with L and A – so much easier than finding say Lupin.
[i]Ladder, ladybird, lake, lamp…[/b] wait, she had passed it hadn’t she? Yes, she had skipping back to where she had seen lamp she went one spot above and found the word she was looking for in small print the word Lamb was sitting.
Lamb…gentle and shy? She wasn’t shy was she? At least she didn’t think she was – but, maybe she was. She didn’t know. Maybe it was saying that she needed to talk to more gentle and shy people. She cast a quick glance toward where Aquila was sitting and figured it must have meant talk to her more. Right. That was obviously it right?

The next thing she had to find was the anchor – hey wait…why hadn’t she gone to Anchor first? She had totally done this in a completely uneffective manor. She was cursing herself and her do everything in the way it came up mentality. Luckily for her the next letters she had to read were all after A so she didn’t have to flip back and find an acorn or something. That was good.
Skimming the page she saw it the word Anchor. The thing that was on that bracelet she treasured so much. The jewelry thing she always wore too much of. Skimming the definition she just bit her lip as she read.

But she had asked about making friends right? She had asked specifically about making friends. So maybe she needed to talk to friends she had about making more friends? She thought with a shrug or this was a complete waste of time. She was going to think it wasn’t a waste though.
Flipping to the next section she quickly found the word Dragon on the last page of the section. She glanced over the page and over shot it at first, of course, typical her. Her eyes caught the definition for ducks and just, she wished she had found one in her cup they were just so cute. She moved back to the dragon though quite quickly and glanced it over. It was an omen for a huge change? And how was she not being truthful with herself? She thought with a frown but wrote down the definition.

She was sure she was being truthful with herself. Maybe the change would be that she’d make the Quidditch team. She almost laughed at the thought. She flipped further into the textbook to find the next sing. The nail.

Inequality. Though, recent things being…yeah, she’d rather not be muddy not with the fact she knew it would drive certain people mad and they’d follow her with a vacuum and then proceed to vacuum her like there was no tomorrow.
She squirmed when she realized she had two more things to look up – the ring and the rabbit. At least they were in the same section, she thought as she flipped to the letter R section of her textbook.
Lucky for her rabbit was the first definition.

Seriously this was weird she wasn’t shy. Wait, was she shy? Was she shy around girls? Did her palms go all shaky and sweaty and gross around them…sometimes, maybe when they weren’t being awesome dust-busting friends? She didn’t know. It was strange, so very strange. Glancing at the last symbol she just scoffed.
Seriously. A ring? She glanced over the definition not once, but three times before scoffing once more. Nope, this was so not to do with a marriage. Sorry people she was not in a relationship and she was fourteen. If someone asked her she’d probably go run and hide in the nearest vacant broom closet.

Yep, as she closed her book and glanced around at her classmates she was sure she saw the last symbol wrong, or, it could have been the friendship bit of it. She was hoping it was the friendship.

Alright now Kace had to turn the cup over after taking three deep long breaths. "Alright Kace...now flip!" he said and then it flipped over. He looked at his notebook to make sure he was going to do it right.

Alright since it had no handle, he began reading it from 12 O' clock. He was going to record the first symbol. The first symbol he saw was a Kite? Hmm that was interesting he recorded it down. He did like Kites. He remembered flying them with his parents back in the muggle world. The kite was at the rim of the cup.
The Middle of the cup represents the near future which represents 2 weeks. He looked at the symbol and it was hard to make out but it looked like a mouse? Hmm mouses were cute, he would look in his textbook later to see what it meant.
Kace checked the bottom of the cup and looked to see what it was. It represents the ultimate conclusion. Alright what does this symbol mean he asked himself? He would find out later and it looked like...a chair? Huh....a chair? It might not be a good thing.

Reading time. Sky really wasn't looking forward to this part, considering what Professor Elwood had said about the tea. But at least she had given them permission to get another cup for water. Which she did, placing it on her desk before grabbing her other cup and aiming her wand into it while performing the wand motion. "Concavus!" There. Now for the tracing. She flipped the now teacup shaped cup onto a blank piece of parchment, tracing around the rim. That done, she got back up and filled her cup three-fourths of the way full. Then she added the teaspoon of leaves and carried it back to her seat.
And brewing begins......now.

The tea was bitter! "Aguamenti!'' the seventh year said, pointing his wand at the other cup. "Finite!'' He grabbed the cup and downed the water. That should get rid of that taste. He turned his attention back to the tea cup.
Jory made sure he left a bit of tea in his cup. Cup in hand, he now gave it three swirls. He peeked into the cup. Just as the instructions said, the tea leaves were dispersed around the cup. Using the parchment they had cut earlier for a saucer, he upended the cup for the last of the tea to drain. He counted three breaths before setting it right side up again.
As Kace was finally cracking down on his cup reading, he made some notes to know which sign he got. Then he noticed he had two signs in the same reading. He examined them closer. At the Rim there seemed to be an Acorn and a Kite. At the middle there was an Alien what seemed like to Kace and at the end there was an Arrow. This seemed interesting.
SPOILER!!: Kace's signs
Rim: Kite and a Acorn
Middle: Mouse and Alien
Conclusion: Chair
Kace went to his textbook to see what all these signs meant. He did the first signs from the Rim of his cup.
So Kite.....

Kace like this one. He seemed to have an ambition which was very true. He was a first year so he wanted to do the best he could.
He check on Acorn next...

These seemed to be both positive. He liked all these things. He wondered if there would be any negatives...but then again he didn't wanna jinx anything.
Next on the list was a Mouse and Alien for the middle of the cup...

Now this one spoke to him. His mother always told him this. This is why he tried out for quidditch this year. He wanted to prove he could things he wasn't capable of.

Hmm? He was quite young for this but he always wanted to move forward. Belle told him to sit back and enjoy life instead of always pursuing to be one step ahead.
After he was done reading, he closed his book and waited for the professor to come over and check his work.
Ethan mirrored the professor's same slow nod as she spoke, showing he understood. "That's what I figured.. thanks anyway, Professor," he said with a shrug before taking his cup of water back to his table. So there was no way getting around the bitter tea.. well, except to hold his nose while he drank it. He had to chuckle to himself.. wasn't that what he told Min to do about drinking coffee?
As he sat back down at his table, he added a teaspoon of tea leaves to the water. Now to let it steep for a few minutes and apparently he was supposed to meditate or something. Leaning back in his seat, Ethan closed his eyes and tried to clear his mind.. and tried not to fall asleep. He took several slow, deep breaths and pushed all thoughts away, focusing on relaxing his body and mind.

Ella allowed the tea to cool and when she deemed it cool enough, the blonde was ready to drink. She reached for her cup with her left hand and tried to think of what she might want the reading to tell her...only...for the first time in maybe her entire life, nothing came to mind. She was blank. Not thinking or worrying about anything. This. Was. SO. Strange.
Guess this would have to be a general reading, yeah? Yeah.
The blonde focused on the taste of the tea which wasn't that tasty, actually and tried her best to stay calm and collected so her reading would be accurate. ...or something.
She stopped drinking when there was only a little tea left and peered inside her cup. So...what now?
Three good swirls, yup...
1...2....3...
The blonde then dumped out the remaining tea on to her..paper... and waited three breaths.
Haruka flipped her cup back over and began noting the symbols that she saw, starting at the rim. The first thing she saw was, what she considered, a lamb. She looked for the meaning and jotted it down.
Quote:
lamb- A lamb suggests you are a gentle and shy person.
She continued clockwise down the cup from the rim to the base, writing down the meanings of the symbols she saw as she went.
Quote:
open book- An open book means learning and knowledge.

The plastic cup felt all sorts of WRONG in Mo's hands, and he turned it around and around as he considered doing a proper reading with an improper cup. If Professor Pretty said it was possible, she must be right, but it offended all his sensibilities.
He set the cup down on the table rather harder than necessary and practiced the spell to make the bottom of the cup more suitable for this effort. How did it go? Concave something? Concavus, Concavus, Concavus. He muttered the word under his breath until it sounded familiar to him, and only then did Mo cast it on his cup. The bottom turned nice and rounded.
Next, Mo turned his cup upside down in order to trace the saucer on his parchment. How exactly would that work? Did the parchment have to be clean? Was it find to reuse something with some old scribbles on it from another class? He drew a circle around the top of the cup, cutting a line right through the scribbles and drawings and words on an old sheet of parchment.
So now to brew some truly awful tea, right? As soon as Mo retrieved the tea from the box at the front of the room, Mo could smell the pungency of it. It was hard to meditate over something completely disgusting, but the professor believed they could do it and Mo was set on NOT disappointing her again if he could help it.

Okay. Start reading at 12 o'clock. Ella could do that. The blonde eyed her cup curiously and then quickly scribbled down the first symbol she saw.
Quote:
Cloud
She then divided her cup into sections and notated the other symbols she saw in each part.
Quote:
Rim:Cloud, question mark Middle:dot, mouth Base:lake
Now time for the symbol meanings and her final reading. Meanings first, she figured, and Ella pulled her textbook open and scanned the pages.
SPOILER!!: Symbol Meanings
Quote:
Cloud: Clouds usually predict worries and anxiety. They have an opposite affect on the meaning of most symbols they're associated with, so look closely at the rest of the symbols! Question Mark: A question mark is a sign that you must act with care, this is not a time to throw caution to the wind. Dot: One dot urges you to pay careful attention to the symbol next to it. Mouth: A mouth suggests you should pay extra special attention to what is being said around you. Lake: A lake suggests that you're feeling at peace and your emotions are controlled.
Once she had the symbol meanings down, the blonde got to work on her reading.
SPOILER!!: Reading
Quote:
First I saw a cloud symbol near the rim of my teacup and that signifies worries and anxiety. The rim represents the now, yeah? So I've been worrying a lot lately, I guess. Mostly over Quidditch. The text said that this symbol has the opposite affect on other meanings and the one closest to this was the question mark symbol. This says you should act with care but if the cloud is telling me the opposite, am I meant to not be so careful? Maybe. The dot and the mouth were quite close together near the middle of the cup and that means those are things having to do with the near future. Apparently I'm meant to be paying close attention to what people are saying? Or...if I'm thinking about the cloud again, maybe I'm supposed to ignore what they say because it's a source of my worrying? The last symbol I saw was the lake at the bottom of my teacup. This suggests my emotions are in control so...maybe I'll have sorted out all my worries, then? Or...is the opposite true because of the cloud? Divination can be confusing.

Tea cups had handles, which was infinitely better than a plastic cup without a handle, Mo decided as he scalded himself over and over by clutching the plastic cup as he filled it with hot water. It was a relief to return to his seat and set the cup on the table again.
He added the tea leaves to the cup and rubbed his reddened hands against his trouser legs while he waited for the tea to steep. Were his fingertips all burnt off or what? Each finger got intense scrutiny, and then Mo recalled he was SUPPOSED to be meditating. His eyes shut tightly, Mo tried to go to some place of white noise and inner peace and finding The Question. Or something other than thinking about his fingers.
Or what about toes that looked like fingers? CREEPY.
No. Inner peace. Was his tea ready yet? Mo peeked at the cup and decided it was ready. Sadly. Holding the cup in his left hand, Mo took a sip of the very unpleasant tea, realizing that it was going to be next to impossible to think of The Question when he was also thinking about how gross the tea tasted. There was a question that kept rising up in his mind, though, and Mo latched onto it desperately.

Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Okay boredom meditation done. Oakey felt relaxed still holding the cup in his right hand he took the tea to his lips and took a sip. Just a quick one to test how hot it was still. He downed it and that bitterness was there, but nothing he couldn't handle. You're looking at the guy who hates sweets. Every other kind of flavor was a heaven to him. Okay now for a big sip, he tilted the cup a little further and took in more of the tea...swallowing it he stuck his tongue out! WOOO MAN that was a lot more bitter than he thought.
He looked down at his cup and eyed the remaining amount of tea, just one more should do it. taking it to his lips Oakey plugged his nose with his other hand and took a big gulp. "Blech!" Oh whoops did he just do that outloud. He covered his mouth and coughed ... So what now he needed to think hard on not thinking? That was a weird way of putting it.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Jory re-read the instructions about the reading. Right. Start at twelve o' clock. He peered into the cup, looking for the first symbol. The rim's was the first he noticed: an apple. Now, he pictured the cup divided into the three parts and began looking for other symbols.
Rim:An apple: An apple indicates arrant good health, life and happiness. Middle: Basket:A basket indicates abundance in your life & Bush:A bush in your cup is a sign that a good opportunity will present itself or you will make a new friend. Base:Elephant:An elephant symbolises strength, persistence and a lot of determination.
Now that he had the symbols, Jory interpreted their meanings in relation to his life:
An apple represents good health and happiness. This is true. I'm not sick or worried about anything. I'm just enjoying life. The basket means abundance in life. What sort of abundance? I hope it will be something good. The bush means a good opportunity or I will make a new friend. Really, I won't mind either but I do wonder what good opportunity it might be. The elephant means strength and determination. So, I will be determined to keep my good strength and happiness, or will be determined to find that abundance or that good opportunity or friend.
Waiting.. waiting, waiting.. had it been two minutes yet? Ariana figured it was.. two minutes cause it was like forever and she watched it.. like a child watching a fish swim in a tank until it cooled enough for her to drink and she picked it up with her RIGHT hand.. which was way weird and she didn't like it.. not at all.
Picking the tea up she began to think of her life issues thinking of the one most at large in her current life. Inner sigh. life was so hard at sixteen. LIFE should of come with a year by year manual or something. Focusing on the taste and almost become like ONE with her breathing or however that was said she closed her ees just slightly and became calm leaving just a small alount in her cup.
three good swirls. she gripped her cup so that she didn't let it go flying and swirrrleddd
One.
Two..
Three...
Holding her cup in her hand she let out the remaining liquid by overturning her cup onto her makeshift saucer. BEAM. good work this was coming out to be.. yes
Sonea turned the cup around in her hands and stared deep in her cup, trying to find more symbols. She almost had thought that she had found one, but then she realized that it was just her imagination and that she needed to search better for another symbol. But even now that she hasn’t found anything more since the last symbols, she wasn’t discouraged, she wanted to find more and she would not stop until the professor told the class to stop!
And she was lucky, she found a… Flower? Sonea grabbed her textbook and started to look for the meaning from a flower, ready to write it down on her parchment. When Sonea had read the description in her textbook and had wrote it down on her parchment she looked relieved, this was something what she wanted, a good sign, she only was curious what exactly would happen and when!
SPOILER!!: Notes
- Alligator, meaning: An alligator suggests that all is not as it appears. Watch out for mischievous happenings.
- Balloon: A balloon indicates an improvement in your life. In addition to this improvement, you must take your gains unselfishly and resist a tendency to become big headed. If you're not careful somebody may ruin your happiness.
- Flower: A flower is a very positive sign! It speaks of joy, good times, success and prosperity. Dreams will come true and ambitions will be realised.

After at least two minutes had passed, Theo opened his eyes and surveyed his cup. Bleh, he had to drink this? He wasn't a great fan of tea anyway, and he still really needed to pee. The Slytherin lifted up the cup with his left hand, as if that was important pfft, and gave it a sip. He stopped, but was apparently thinking of nothing groundbreaking, so he kept drinking until he had left a little at the end of the cup.
He placed the cup back onto the desk and closed his eyes again. He didn't meditate, because he couldn't do that, so he just cleared his mind completely and waited for something to come to him.
But nothing appeared to be.
In fact, he seemed to keep coming back to the thought that he had forgotten something. Theo wanted to grab his remembrall to confirm this, only he had left it in the dorms. Hmmmmmmmm.... The boy tried clearing his mind again but... the thing. The thing that he had forgotten. Was that something to do with this reading, maybe?
He started to breath, since that was the next step. In and out, iiiin and ooooout.

At first when Clement pulled the cup off of his paper saucer, he thought that it just looked like a ton of mush. It was mush. The wet tea leaves. It was mush, though he needed to find mush shapes out of the mush. He frowned. Oh this really was not for him. He placed his elbow on the table, and leaned his chin onto his hand. Yes. He really did not get this at all. He couldn't even see any shapes in there. There had to be some shapes. Or you know. This wouldn't be very good. He frowned again, placing the cup which had been in his other hand onto the table. In his confusion he'd forgotten what he had to do next. So he looked up, glancing at the instructions. "Read from...12 o clock." He muttered, nodding. That was pretty simple. "Divide the cup into three sections..." Okay. That seemed pretty easier too. Nodding, he glanced down at his cup, noting where 12 o clock was. Humming to himself a little, he mentally divided the cup up. Now he just had to hope that he would remember how he had divided.
Working from 12 o clock, he looking at the first bit of a mushy shape he could see him. Hmm. What on earth was that. He frowned, leaning in to look a little more closely at it. Okay. So that kind of looked like an Acorn. An acorn. He really didn't know what an acorn was, but as he looked in his textbook, the two shapes looked similar. Okay then. Picking up his quill, he made a notation on his parchment.
SPOILER!!: Parchment
Shape One
Acorn
Meaning - Your hard work will be rewarded. A humble beginning will lead to better things
Well that was confusing. He frowned. Hard work he could kind of relate to. Quidditch maybe? He was working hard at that. And then his schooling obviously. He was attempting to work hard, and he had done that last year. He'd done well with his owls. So...he would be rewarded for that? He liked the sound of that. Hmm. He really did. Now onto the next shape.

Theo looked over at the board for the next step, which also looked easy enough. He held his cup, in his right hand again, and swirled it three times as it had instructed. He watched it for a moment, as the leaves starting swimming around inside. The Slytherin placed his saucer in front of him, and gently turned his cup over on it's front. The rest of the water almost splashed onto his uniform, but he dodged it just in time.
He counted in his head... 1, 2, 3... and took the breaths.
OKAY... the moment of truth. Theo lifted the cup slowly and placed it to the side to study his leaves. Hmm...
He had to look up at the board because this was all absolute mumbo-jumbo in his head.
Start at 12 o'clock. What did that even mean?

Clear your mind... this was going to be the hard part of the activity. Sarah's mind was always in a frenzy, her neurons never liked to be at rest. It was due to this that she had trouble falling asleep at night, she wasd always plotting, planning and thinking.
She decided to try use the self ,meditation technique her mother taught her, "I am drifting on a cloud" Sarah said in her mind. She repeated, concentrating on the words. She then began to feel sleepy. So she woke herself up. Now she had to stop herself from thinking.
Then Sarah dipped her finger in the tea, it was too hot, so she tried to blow it a bit. Then she reached forward and held the cup with her left hand and began to drink. "OUCH!" She cried, her tongue was burnt.
After a few moments Sarah began to drink agian. This time the tempreture was okay yet tt tasted awful yet Sarah decided to be postivie, she imagined it was a cuop of rooibos. Nothing really came to mind, as Sarah was not interested in knowing her future, as she knew that she had the ability to change it.

It took Theo about 4 minutes to have any kind of clue as to what 'reading at 12 o'clock' meant. He assumed it meant to look at the leaves as if it were a clock, then picking the 12 o'clock point. So he started at the top, naturally. Or the rim, as it was referred to on the board. Theo looked at it from every angle, adjusting his head left, right and almost upside down.
He decided to skip that part, and looked at the middle. It looked like a mix match of symbols, too much for the brain to comprehend at once, so he went straight to the text book.
An oval sort of shape... kinda looked like a balloon? Theo flicked open his textbook to see if balloon was even on the list and it WAS! An improvement in his life was his possible outcome? Well, that sounded promising. He continued on to read something about not being selfish or bigheaded. Pfft, he wasn't any of those... There was a separate symbol beside it, which again, was kind of hard to make out, but after looking through his textbook, he figured that he had got it right.
As for the other symbols, Theo still had to look those up.
The bottom. It was like a curvy line. He immediately thought it was a feather or something, but it didn't look very fluffy, so he kept looking through his textbook. He stumbled across mouth and then looked back at the symbol. That one certainly could fit. Theo read the description of the symbol and pressed his eyebrows together. Hmm... moving on.
The first symbol, the one that he had skipped seemed to be a bit bigger and more detailed than the other symbols. He did that thing of looking at it from every angle again, until it was totally clear. How could he not see it? It was an umbrella! An open one.
Umbrella (open) - An open umbrella tells you that despite the fact that the problems you've been waiting for will still happen, you've taken the right precautions and you'll get through it. Balloon - A balloon indicates an improvement in your life. In addition to this improvement, you must take your gains unselfishly and resist a tendency to become big headed. If you're not careful somebody may ruin your happiness. Dot: One dot urges you to pay careful attention to the symbol next to it. Gate: A gate warns you to keep your eye open for an opportunity. Mouth - A mouth suggests you should pay extra special attention to what is being said around you.
He stopped and looked at his recordings and tried to make sense of them. His first thought was family things... but then he was soon drawn to academic studies... of some sort. Actually... Theo had no idea. This was confusing, and most likely a load of old tosh anyway.

She tried to concentrate on her breath. It was hard as she had better things to think about. Yet she tried. IN and out, in and out she commentated internally on her breathing. It was like breathing excersices. Only it was not in bed trying to fall asleep.
She tried to think of the taste, she had to cast the ideal taste aside and face reality. Facing reality was hard for Sarah, the optimist. The tea was no longer rooibos yet gross black tea. Her face, in a real grimace showed what she thought of it. GROSS, REPULSIVE, GAGGABLE. She hated this pessimism until she realised it was actually realism.
Then she tasted a leaf, sure enough she had drunk all the tea that she needed to with a bit of liquid and lots of leafs in the bottom.
There was a bitter taste in her mouth and Sarah could belive that she had actually drunk that putrid stuff without sugar or milk

Oh a spell to fix it. Well that worked. West picked his wand and his cup up (undecorated because... yeah), and pointed his wand into the cup. So a swish like a smile? And concavus. That was a neat one, since it was like concave and made sense and all. That was always nice. He swished his wand in a 'smile'. "Concavus!" He said firmly. And then pulled his wand away to examine the results. Oh. Hey. Smooth. Rounded. Problem solved. First time's the charm! Hah. Feeling a bit proud of himself, West straightened up and looked at the chalkboard, absorbing the instructions there.
Step one... flip.... saucer.... why what? A paper saucer? West eyed this in consternation but dubiously placed a fresh sheet on his desk and traced a circle. How was this bit of parchment going to actually hold tea without making a mess? Hmmm? He used diffindo to cut it out and muttered to himself. Right.
What next? West went and got a spoon of tea leaves and filled his cup with water. Tea leaves and water. That was how you made tea. Booyah. West returned to his seat in silence and waited.
... Tea took ages.
