Default Divination Lesson One (Tasseomancy)

Divination Lesson One

The beginning of term was upon them and even though the first week or so had already passed and everyone was practically settled in, the first Divination lesson of the term had yet to happen. Today was the day though and the trapdoor to the classroom was open and the ladder was lowered.

Professor Elwood sat excitedly at her desk by the chalkboard awaiting the students. The room was set up like it usually was, a few seats around little tables among the risers; the windows opened up to allow what slight breeze there was to flow in. What other point was there to be in a tower classroom?

The cutbacks the rest of the Castle seemed to be having didn't seem to have effected this room, at least on the surface. Go ahead and take a seat while you wait for the Professor to start the lesson.

Lesson Progress:
* Lesson Begins and Question #1
* Answer to Q1 and Question #2
* Answer to Q2 and Beginning of activity

**The lesson has now STARTED. If you post your student entering now it will result in a POINTS LOSS. If you'd like to join, just rp your character as if they've been there the whole time.

Taking another quick peak at her parchment, Carsyn reviewed the instructions for the next step.

Quote:
Step Four: Let tea cool a bit and then drink. Try not to swallow many leaves. If you are right-handed, lift your cup with your left. If left-handed, drink with your right. If ambidextrous, reach for your cup, stop, and then use the other hand.

Once relaxed, identify the issue foremost in your mind. As you attempt to think of nothing in particular, is there a stubborn thought that keeps returning to your attention? If so, that is the subject of this reading. Focus on that thought. If nothing in particular comes to mind, then this will be a general tea leaf reading. Focus on your breath and the taste of the tea.

Leave a small amount of tea at the bottom of your cup.
The tea had certainly had enough time to steep and then cool, considering it took her several minutes to ward off that almost anxiety attack. But she was back to being calm, cool, and collected. She'd managed a halfway decent meditation and only let herself think about her hunger and the lack of any decent food in the dining hall twice. OK, maybe three times. But hunger has a way of doing that to a growing girl, right? Focus is hard enough when you're well fed, nevermind when you're living off porridge.

Anyhow, with the tea cooled at this point, Carsyn picked up the cup with her right hand, careful not to squeeze the sides too hard and cause overflow spillage from the slightly collapsible cup. She then did precisely as she was instructed, attempting to clear her head. She'd actually succeeded until she tasted the tea. "UGHHH!" She exclaimed a bit louder than she'd intended. It is so bitter! I haven't tasted anything this bitter since the Vegemite Dad brought home from his trip to Australia. And I could hardly stomach that either. How am I ever going to drink a whole cup of this stuff?

With a resolve to not allow this foul taste to prevent her from completing her reading, Carsyn once again tried to clear her mind and held her breath while sipping the tea. Unfortunately, it didn't help as much as she'd hoped because the bitterness stayed behind after every sip. Admittedly, she was not a tea expert, nor was she even remotely knowledgeable about teas. She'd only ever had a few sips of her mother's herbal teas, but the memory of those wasn't nearly as unpleasant as what she was forcing herself to swallow.

Stop thinking of home. You're supposed to be clearing your mind. OK. Clear mind. Clear. Mind. Eclair... no wait, that's not right. Clear. Clear mind. But eclairs sound so good and I'm hungry. Maybe that's what my reading should be about. My hunger.

Carsyn finished drinking as much tea as she could stomach, leaving just the small amount requested at the bottom of her cup.

You have bewitched me body and soul, And I love- I love- I love you

SPOILER!!: Step 5
Step Five: Hold your nearly empty teacup in your hand and give it three good swirls. The tea leaves will disperse around the interior of cup. Gently dump out the remaining liquid by turning your teacup over into a saucer.

Wait at least three breaths before turning your cup back over.

Carefully Mack swirled the left over contents
once.
twice.
three times.

turning the cup over onto her "saucer" she took three deep breaths, not really caring how long they took.

SPOILER!!: Step 6
Step Six: Because your cup has no handle, begin reading from 12 o'clock. Make a notation of the first symbol you see. Mentally divide the cup into three sections: rim, middle and base.

Rim - area is above the tea level when you first poured your tea represents the current moment in time.
Middle - area between the rim and bottom, represents near future (2 weeks)
*Both the rim and middle section represent influences in your outcome.
Base - The bottom of the cup below the middle section, represents the ultimate answer or conclusion.

Once turing the cup back over, she mentally divided the cup into the three sections needed to complete the tea reading. First looking at the rim, Mack saw what looked to be an hourglass, on the parchment she had placed to the side she scribbled down "hourglass"

Next was the middle section, the only thing that could possibly be seen was a loop, it was clear. Again the blonde scribbled "loop" on her parchment.

Lastly was the base of the cup, looking carefully she could see wings. Her brow furrowed as she wrote down "wings" onto the parchment. Sitting the cup back down onto the table she took another deep breath. And continued on to the next step.

SPOILER!!: Step 7

Step Seven: Look up recorded symbols in Textbook and record your reading results.

Opening the textbook she had purchased during her extended stay in Diagon Alley for the summer, the second year began looking up the three symbols that she had seen in her own tea leaves. First there was the hourglass... The textbook read

Quote:
Hourglass
An hourglass indicates that an important decision needs to be made soon.
Quickly she wrote down exactly as the textbook said... decision. hmmmm that could be a number of things.

nevermind on to the next one..

Quote:
Loop
A loop warns you to avoid acting on impulse, take time to consider all of your options.
Again she wrote down what was printed beside the symbol... still this made no sense to her.

Quote:
Wings
A pair of wings in your tea cup tellss of an interesting message or receipt of unexpected information.
Finally, this did kind of bring all three symbols together... what could this be..

As she questioned herself she realized she wasn't even sure that she believed this stuff, brushing off the strange feeling she had she sighed and looked up at the professor.

Although there was one thing in particular that kept coming back....consistently, effectively breaking through the wall she was trying to put up inside her head.

It wasn't a question that needed answering. It was more likely a....plea.

When she felt that the tea had cooled enough, Beezus reached over for the cup with her left hand since she was right-handed and that seemed to influence the reading or something. Why? She didn't know...maybe she'd ask later.

Merlin....it didn't smell like tea at all. Not like the ones she'd have before, anyway. The taste? "Ugh." It wasn't that terrible or repulsive. Just slightly. Still, she had to spit it out. The leaves seemed to want to cling to her mouth too. So...excuse me, more spitting here. However, when she had wiped off her mouth, she went over the whole procedure again. This time, she avoided spitting and drank down the contents of her cup as quickly as she could instead.

"Okay." Now she try and relax, right? Mind clearing part two......which was not even remotely working. She took a deep breath and released it audibly as if she was telling herself that she was surrendering to her own thoughts. It was a losing battle, really.

She held the almost empty cup tightly a gave it a good 'ol swirls of three. Of course, as expected, the bits of leaves scattered around the cup. And as she saw in the corner of her eyes that Dylan had turned over his cup onto his parchment aka improvised saucer, she did the same.

Then....one, two, three breaths....Beezus turned it back over and automatically reached out for her quill and another piece of parchment. She looked at Dylan and bit her bottom lip......because of reasons.

Dylan caught her glances and sighed. Beezus knew...Of course, she knew...what he was thinking about. As he lifted the cup, he looked eyes with her just a moment before quickly looking down at the dregs of sopping wet leaves clinging to the bottom of the cup...

To be honest, he didn't really know what he was looking at.

Quote:
Rim - area is above the tea level when you first poured your tea represents the current moment in time.
The rim...which was supposed to be the top...looked like...SQUINT...a fire, maybe? Flames licking up the side of the cup...? Dylan continued to eyeball them for several moments, trying to picture it as something (anything) else...but it was to no avail. It HAD to be fire.

Meh, he'd sketch all this in a minute...

Quote:
Middle - area between the rim and bottom, represents near future (2 weeks)
Looking at the dregs that clung to the middle of the cup's side, the Slytherin Captain found himself squinting more...Was that an animal? Their was definitely a head...and...legs...and a tail. The ears on the head were pointed, the body and legs? were lean...and the tail was thick...So, a fox, maybe? It was a muggle animal...but he couldn't think of anything else it could be. There weren't any other options...

IF it were an animal. Maybe if someone else looked, they'd see something completely different...

Quote:
Base - The bottom of the cup below the middle section, represents the ultimate answer or conclusion.
The last part of the reading was the base...and trust there was a whole bunch more squinting. Sun...moon....stars? What was that again? Wasn't that called....Heavenly Bodies...or something? Dylan wasn't too sure...Flipping his book open, he looked under "H" and scrolled down to where it'd be...and was extremely pleased with himself for being right! That WAS Heavenly Bodies...the Sun, Moon, and stars...

...but wait. What did that mean?

Oh, right. He needed to be writing this all down.

Steps:
  • Fill 3/4 full with boiling hot water
  • Add tea leaves
  • Let it brew for 2 minutes
  • Wait until it's chilled and drink the tea, leaving some in the bottom
  • Gently pour it out onto the saucer
  • Take three deep breaths before flipping it back up

The Reading:
  • Rim: Fire -
  • Middle: Fox -
  • Base: Heavenly Bodies -

After jotting things down, he left spaces for the interpretations and began looking things up.

First up...the fire. According to the book, it was supposed to be the scared flame...and if on top, indicated great achievement. Well, he had accomplished a lot of great things lately. He'd put together an amazing team, lots of new talents. He'd worked things out with Honey Bee and they were back together...He was graduating this term...

In relation to his question, though...It was all about Bee. He had her again...and that was all that matter at the moment.

The fox. All it said was that it was cunning and deceitfulness from a true friend. Dylan thought about that and sneered a bit. Like anyone was stupid enough to do something that..........stupid. Everyone knew he was crazy...Especially where Bee was concerned...

It was supposed to be weeks away...

He'd ponder that a bit later...

...and the Heavenly Bodies bit...threw him off. He could only HOPE that would be true...or maybe it'd only be true for a short time...living a happy and blissful life. Glancing up at her through his lashes, the Slytherin bit at his lip.

It was all things he'd thought about, of course...but meh.

Just...UGH. Dylan hated feeling like his back was against the wall...and that he was being forced to act quicker than he usually would. He liked taking his time with this sort of stuff...but there was no time. Merlin, he hated feeling...out of control.

He continued to throw Beezus looks.

He continued to throw Beezus looks.
Holding his gaze, Beezus began chewing the insides of her cheeks. She wasn't sure if Dylan knew....well, she knew that he'd figured things out. He wasn't stupid not to notice all the....signs. Still, the Ravenclaw wondered if he knew the entirety of things. She haven't really brought it up between them and to be honest, she'd dread when it'd come to the time that she had to.

But she had to, right? Sooner or later.

Just like reading over the residue inside her cup. She had to start with it now or she'd ran out of time. So....gently pulling averting her eyes away from the Slytherin Captain's face. And then she was keenly looking down at the cup on her hands. They were supposed to begin reading at 12 o'clock. Duly noted.

The readings were to be divided in three. From the rim, middle and base.

Beezus transferred the cup to her left hand and picked up the quill with her right so she can easily scrawl down on the parchment the symbols that she'd come across. Okay. Starting....the rim is the area above the tea level when you first poured your tea and it represents the current moment in time. Tilting her head slightly, she narrowed her eyes and stared. She wasn't certain how this worked but the dregs sort of looked like......a lamp (?)....what with the shade and whatnot. Eh. Others might have seen it differently but that was what she was seeing here. So, she was going to jot that down.

Moving on to the middle which area between the rim and bottom of the cup. Tilting her head some more - because this kind of thing neede that - Beezus' forked her eyebrows some and squinted. There were two triangles inverted on end with each other.....hold on, those were not triangles. More like...a pear? What? No...an hourglass. More squinting. It looked like an hourglass but at the same time it didn't. MERLIN....this was difficult and it was making her head hurt. The brunette sighed, took time to look at something else first before returning her eyes towards the middle of the cup. Meh. It was an hourglass, she finally decided. Writing that down....

And....off to the bottom now. Or the base which is below the middle section, and it represents the ultimate answer or conclusion. So this was "it", huh? Beezus sucked in a deep breath before throwing in her attention to the cup's bottom. Dregs were sprawled about, there was some sort of clumping......"An island?" Yeah, it seems like it.

Quote:
Rim: Lamp

Middle: Hourglass

Base: Island
That was it, so far.

Next up...moment of truth.

Beezus flipped open her textbook and browsed for the symbols she had found to look up what each meant. First was the lamp which so represent the "right now". And it meant....a happy event in the form of a party or celebration. This rather brought a slight smile to her face. They were having the Ravenclaw Social later so this was legit. Although....if it was about the issue, she'd have to say it didn't relate...how was that even a happy event?

Next, the middle reading which was presumably in two weeks. Hourglass....it indicates that an important decision needs to be made soon. Almost on instinct, Beezus bit her bottom lip. Did she really have to? If it was going to be a decision-making about the issue she had in mind, she was also confused which part of it needed deciding.

Sigh. This was barely making any sense at all.

Lastly, the island. Silently, she read..."It sometimes suggests a return to a place that holds happy memories for you." BLINK. Blink. Blink.

...................Oh. That was.....nice. Maybe she'd do that. Yeah, she will. A place like that. She definitely had one. For some odd reason, her eyes started to water and she had to blink repeatedly to rid of it. She threw Dylan a look after and gulped. Maybe she can ask him to come with her when that time comes....the time for her to return to that place. Maybe.

She wrote those down and as she'd finish, she noticed Professor Elwood standing near their table. Beezus smiled at her.

SPOILER!!: Readings with Meanings
Rim: Lamp - means a happy event in the form of a party or celebration.

Middle: Hourglass - indicates that an important decision needs to be made soon.

Base: Island - promises harmony, privacy and carefree happiness. It sometimes suggests a return to a place that holds happy memories for you.

She carried her cup over to the water station and sat it down by the cauldrons. Not too close though to avoid melting it. Seeing that the water in this cauldron had been used already, she slid her wand from her holster and tipped it into the cauldron. "Aguamenti," she said and watched until she filled the cauldron half-way. "Finite." Now it was time to wait and watch.

So she waited. And watched. And watched and waited some more. Until finally the water began to fizzle, gurgle, and boil.

Not trusting herself to pour directly from the cauldron, she ladled some of the hot water into her cup until it was about three fourths of the way full, which she judged by the remaining ridges on the outside of her now smooth-inside cup.

She carried the cup back to her desk quickly, because the hot water was warming right through the thin plastic cup. Not much of an insulator, is it? she noted as she felt her fingertips begin to hurt from the heat. As hastily as she could, without spilling, she sat the cup within the drawn circle of her "saucer" and dumped in the spoonful of tea leaves.

She watched them clump on the water's surface and then slowly become saturated and slink down into the cup. Now she just had to wait again. And watch again. So wait and watch she did.

Divination - Lesson One
Tessomancy / Tea Reading

Step One: Flip cup over onto piece of parchment and then trace outside rim of the cup to create the 'saucer' out of the area made by doing this (Leaves on saucers don't have much purpose on their beginner readings without "real" saucers"). Retrieve 1 teaspoon of tea leaves from boxes at each table.

Step Two: Fill cup 3/4 full with hot water from cauldrons and add tea leaves.

Step Three: Allow tea to brew for 2 minutes. Clear your mind and meditate. No talking please.

Step Four: Let tea cool a bit and then drink. Try not to swallow many leaves. If you are right-handed, lift your cup with your left. If left-handed, drink with your right. If ambidextrous, reach for your cup, stop, and then use the other hand.

And the time was up!

"Okay everyone we are quickly running out of time and we will need to conclude the lesson very soon." She looked at the students who were mostly finished. They were all working hard though and she was proud of the work they had done today.

Regardless though they needed to move on. "What I'd like you all to do now is either get with a partner and discuss how the symbols you saw in your reading fit or did not fit with your question or idea that the reading was for or you can do this on your own onto a piece of parchment you will turn in to me." Make sense? Basically she just wanted to hear how they felt their readings turned out, she had seen their notes on the symbols but not many of them had made notes about how their overall reading went.

"So if you could work on that we will be just about finished for the day." Calista gave them a look that told them to get back to work and she walked to her desk to wait for them to finish.

OOC: So only one post per person is really needed even if you are doing partners. I just want to either hear or see how your characters respond to the reading and how the symbols they found go along with it. Thanks so much! You will have about 15 hours from this time of this post until I will be dismissing everyone from the lesson.

Now she had to READ the leaves and such.. meh okay.. starting from the Rim

Rim: Now the room was most DEFINETLY a rake, there was no doubt... So she grabbed her book and looked it up A rake suggests that you should pay more attention to minor details so as not to overlook potential problems or miss opportunities.
Hmmm.. pay attention.. she supposed she could do more of that..

Middle: the middle of the cup was a bit m ore tricky for her as she tried to really LOOK to see what was going on was that a.. It was! she saw a Kite! and a kite meant... she thought as she flipped through the book K..K..K.. oh there a kite signifies ambition that will carry you far as long as you're prepared to take up any opportunities as they come..

All these opportunities... o.O.. she found it a bit odd seeing as she wasn't excpecting anything opportunish to come up

And lastly the Bottom of the cup was a clear as day was a mouse and that indicates that you need to act upon opportunities as they arise if you don't you could end up with nothing.

So. there we're opportunities opening for her and she should take them or she's be with nothing.. o.O

HUH!?

now she needed to write all of this down.. where was her quill?

Okay so now the waiting and steeping was over with. And not a moment too soon, because the steam coming up from her tea cup smelled awful. She closed her eyes and tried to clear her mind of thought - which just about impossible. She just kept having the same two ideas circling in her brain like water around a drain. She supposed she'd focus on the first one.

Feeling that her tea had surely cooled off by now, judging by the amount of steam, she reached for the cup with her right hand, since she was left handed. And although she did things with both hands sometimes, she knew she usually drank with her left - so the right hand it was!

She sipped the tea through her teeth and focused on her thought. Steady, slow, breathing. Innnn and outttt. But stop thinking about the breathing. Think of the thought. Feeling her mind find that tether, she drank until there was very little water left, and checked her notes for the next step.

Step Five: Hold your nearly empty teacup in your hand and give it three good swirls. The tea leaves will disperse around the interior of cup. Gently dump out the remaining liquid by turning your teacup over into a saucer.

Wait at least three breaths before turning your cup back over.

Step Seven: Look up recorded symbols in Textbook and record your reading results.

Bottom: Mouse- A mouse indicates that you need to act upon opportunities as they arise if you don't you could end up with nothing.

Minerva took down her notes from her tea leaves when she heard Professor Elwood say they were almost out of time. Then she said they had to read their results to someone in class or write them down to turn them in. Hmm she thought about which would be the easier of the two options and then decided to go with talking about them.

Turning to the person next to her she smiled, "E you want to read your results to me and I can do the same?" She figured he would, but thought she would ask, maybe he wouldn't want to or something, so just in case.

Looking down at her paper, she felt her cheeks get a little flushed, maybe she should have read this with someone else. Well to late now.. "So when I was drinking the tea, my mind was going to, well what it's been on a lot lately, the healer stuff, you, well just the future in general." She gave a small smile not sure what he would think of that, but he knew she had been thinking about that stuff a lot, so it shouldn't be to much of a surprise. "Anyway, the first symbol I found on the rim was a cherry, looking through the book I found that the definition of cherry was a powerful symbol or love and emotion." She couldn't help, but smile reading this again, "Since it's the right now it definitely goes well. Well at least I think so anyway."

Her smile faltered a bit with the next one, "The second symbol in the middle I came across looked like a kettle, when going through the definitions I found kettle to mean to expect a minor hindrance or delay. I'm assuming it will most likely have something to do with that charms score and the healing career. I was planning on going to meet with the healer soon, so maybe this has a warning about that or something." Moving right along, she looked at the third symbol, and took a breath before talking. She had thought of future in general, so these could be taken for the career path or him, she was really trying to keep them career and not him, because she didn't want to think about if it meant not happy times between them.

"The last symbol I found at the bottom was a ball. The definition I found for the ball was that my luck will be like a bouncing ball going from good to bad, but when bad I can bounce back." She looked up at him wondering how he took these symbols to mean, maybe she was way off on her own thoughts. "I guess the bouncing back isn't anything knew and really isn't life always up and down, so this doesn't seem like anything to big of a deal." Well with everything that she had done up to this point it sure seemed like an up and down roller coaster so the ball wasn't saying anything to knew. "Okay.. enough about mine.. your turn." Smiling she was glad her thoughts and leaves were done.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Jory figured he'd write down his reading, so he retrieved a piece of parchment from his bag and set to work.

Quote:
The first symbol I saw was an apple which represents good health and happiness. Thankfully, for the time I am enjoying both.No worries. As yet. Panicking and worry about NEWTs shall commence somewhere in the near future.
In the middle I saw a basket which indicates abundance in your life & a Bush which means good opportunity will present itself or you will make a new friend. I wouldn't mind neither of the three so long as the abundance will be something good. I'm hoping that opportunity will be something like a less hectic schedule so I can make some time for studying. But I won't mind a new friend. Gotta keep a look out for who that might be.
Finally, I saw an elephant which symbolises strength, persistence and a lot of determination. I think that I will be determined to keep all of the good health or persistence to make that good opportunity work in my favour.

There was a tension about this table now...and the reading had caused that. Dylan was blaming it solely. As he looked over at her, he noted the glassy look in her eyes, grimacing at the thought of what that meant.

The Slytherin had never looked at time as the enemy before...but perhaps he should have...It was so blatantly being robbed from him...

SPOILER!!: Profesor!

Oh, they were partnering up? How appropriate.

There was several moments when he didn't say anything....Just continued on with his semi-creeperish staring...When he did finally speak, though...the tone was full of forced ease and cheerfulness.

"So, I asked mine an obvious question...." Obvious to him, anyway. "...and got what I think is a fire, a fox, and...heavenly bodies." Dylan handed the cup over just in case Beezus wanted to look for herself. "The immediate future one...the fire...means great achievement. The fox, which is for the near future...means someone close will deceive me." Yep, all was okay. His nonchalant tone said as much. ALL was well..."...and the last is the stars and stuff...That means happy and bliss life."

Oh. Professor Elwood was saying they were running out of time.

Running......out of time? She might have actually snorted upon hearing that. Wasn't that a little too appropriate? She thought it was.

And since they were running out of time, they either pair up with another person or with a parchment for discussion. She would've wanted to just write it down so as not to add more to the tension that had filled her and Dylan's wake. But she knew that they'd end up pairing up so she'd put on the classic Beezus smile on for him as he stared at her.

She was very thankful when he finally spoke up, what with the cheerfulness in his voice. But of course, she could feel it.....that it was forced but she still smiled and listened as he shared what symbols the remaining contents of his cup withheld. She didn't dare interrupt too but she did accept the cup and averted her eyes to the dregs in it in pretend reading. Things became harder when she had to lock gazes with him.

When he finished, however, she knew she had to look back at him and she did as she handed over her cup before sharing what her readings came out to be. "So...." *throat clearing* "....there's this something and I just wanted to find out what Tasseography would tell me about it." She did that finger-quoting action when she mentioned the name of the practice. "And from what I think...I got a lamp at the rim, an hourglass at the middle and an island at the bottom." Deep breath. Can Dylan stop staring? Please? She was starting to get really anxious. "The lamp means a happy event in form of a celebration but I can't see how it relates with the 'something' I'm thinking about. The hourglass means that there is supposedly an important decision I need to make soon..." Nod nod. "...I'm not really sure how it fits but oddly, in some way....it fits. And lastly," Yes...the only one that clearly fit. "...the island....promises harmony, privacy and carefree happiness." His cup's bottom reading also said something about being happy, right? Good. At least they'd get to both be happy. She wanted him to be happy. "And....it also suggests a return to a place that holds happy memories." By this time, she'd chose to look away from him. Her chest was starting to get heavy.

"I think that last one....the ultimate conclusion fits the issue I have in mind really well."

Merlin...Divination sure had its own way of tricking her into revealing her secrets. Well...almost. Beezus slowly lifted her gaze back to Dylan and met his blue eyes. "Stop staring at me like that, babe." A sweet smile for you, Captain.

Theo wasn't impressed with sharing his results with people, because the professor hadn't even checked if they were right first. He really did suck at Divination, but oh well. He picked up his parchment and automatically went to sit by West. It didn't take much thought process as to who his partner would be.

Then again... West was likely to question his work, because he liked questions, didn't he?

Maybe he should've picked someone else, DARN IT.

"Ite?" Good. Theo laid his piece of parchment in front of him, along with his saucer that wobbled almost the whole way over here. "There's my symbols." He pointed to the cup. "They're all pretty easy ones apart from the gate which was kinda hard to figure out. I think the first part could be about... I dunno, my brother... or maybe..." He paused, checking that no one was listening. "Someone else." Someone else being Ella Bishop.

And then he looked around the room frantically to make sure no one heard.

"I dunno what the rest means. The one about an opportunity must mean something to do with school, I guess." None of it really linked to what his initial thought was, either. The thing with thinking he had forgotten something. He gave West a shrug then waited to hear his predictions.

SPOILER!!: his notes

Rim: Umbrella (open)
Middle: Balloon. Dot. Gate
Bottom: Mouth

Umbrella (open) - An open umbrella tells you that despite the fact that the problems you've been waiting for will still happen, you've taken the right precautions and you'll get through it.
Balloon A balloon indicates an improvement in your life. In addition to this improvement, you must take your gains unselfishly and resist a tendency to become big headed. If you're not careful somebody may ruin your happiness.
Dot: One dot urges you to pay careful attention to the symbol next to it.
Gate: A gate warns you to keep your eye open for an opportunity.
Mouth: A mouth suggests you should pay extra special attention to what is being said around you.

So...yeah.

Ella was confused about her reading and trying to explain it to someone else when she didn't understand it herself was going to be sort of difficult, yeah? Mhm.

Instead the blonde settled on adding a bit more to the notes she'd already taken and handing that in. At least then Professor Elwood would be the only one having to sort through her confused mess of a reading. She wasn't cut out for this stuff.

Scribble. Scribble. Scribble.

First I saw a cloud symbol near the rim of my teacup and that signifies worries and anxiety. The rim represents the now, yeah? So I've been worrying a lot lately, I guess. Mostly over Quidditch. The text said that this symbol has the opposite affect on other meanings and the one closest to this was the question mark symbol. This says you should act with care but if the cloud is telling me the opposite, am I meant to not be so careful? Maybe. The dot and the mouth were quite close together near the middle of the cup and that means those are things having to do with the near future. Apparently I'm meant to be paying close attention to what people are saying? Or...if I'm thinking about the cloud again, maybe I'm supposed to ignore what they say because it's a source of my worrying? The last symbol I saw was the lake at the bottom of my teacup. This suggests my emotions are in control so...maybe I'll have sorted out all my worries, then? Or...is the opposite true because of the cloud? Divination can be confusing.

I guess I'm not sure if my reading is accurate or not. I didn't have a specific question in mind when I started and instead, let my mind go blank to get a general reading. It's true that I worry a lot, all the time, a lot so that part does seem accurate to my life. The cloud symbol is confusing, though. I'm not quite sure if I'm meant to take the opposite of what all the other symbols mean or what. Perhaps if I was a more skilled reader I'd have less trouble with this sort of thing. Anyway, I guess I'd say some aspects of the reading sounded correct and some I'm still unsure about.

There. Now she'd just need to hand it in before she left.

Oh what, did the professor REALLY expect West to discuss things with just anyone? Because nope. Also did she expect that he'd actually show her and let her get some insight into his psyche? Because that was noooot how Westomancy worked. No sir nope. So that left what, writing down fake results and....

....oh. Oh. Nope. Guess he was sharing with Theo. Well.

That was alright, he supposed. At least Theo KNEW things. AND he could be trusted not to SHARE things. Kind of an ideal combination in a way.

West listened carefully to his bestie's explanation for stuff and eyed the parchment with the symbol meanings.

"The gate could be...." He paused significantly, "that thing we talked about. With Dora." Because when opportunity knocked, you had to grab it. Preferably with both hands. Ahem.

Just an idea.

The balloon was obviously to do with Dora. And Theo's Ella crush and the almost-but-not-quite revival of that. So it fit that the gate part would also be Dora related.

As for his....

Quote:
Middle: Bludger or Onion
Middle: dots/galleons/measles or something
Base: Key
He'd crossed out the parts that were supposedly not right of course, though West hadn't written the meanings alongside.

"I didn't have a thing at the top. Two bits in the middle, one in the bottom." For starters.

"That one." He jabbed at the parchment where it said onions. "Secrets that might not be kept that way." WELL if he was going to try to make that fit his life that was obvious since yeah. Yeah there had been bunches of those lately. West didn't elaborate because it wasn't the business of nosy ears. There were always nosy ears round these parts. And if he elaborated people might think he believed it. Which he didn't.

"The dots mean making money. Which obviously I do anyways." So he was good continuing with that, just saying. Not that he believed in the reading just that would be how he'd apply it to his life.

"The key one is dumb. The book says it predicts a fiery and passionate relationship." West shrugged it off. He was already IN a relationship. And such.

Anyways. There. Shared. Good enough, professor? West glanced up at her and then returned his attention to Theodore. "This is a bunch of rubbish anyway."

... right? "I mean we all just analyse things and force them into whatever is going on in our lives or what we think is going on. Stuff is generic and you can force anything to apply." They didn't have to REALLY worry about things. See? No worries, Theo.b

Theo had a thoughtful expression. He hadn't even clicked that the gate could possibly represent his plans with Dora... if it could really be called an 'opportunity'. "You're right... do you think it means that I have a good chance of getting, you know, that opportunity." West knew. But Theo still gave him eyes.

His thoughts on Divination had possibly been uplifted at that thought.

Anyway... enough about him, because he still felt uncomfortable about showing off his handy work. His work was always somewhat wrong, he just wanted to finish the lesson and leave.

Secrets, huh? Theo blinked at the word 'onions' on his parchment, then looked at West. He knew those secrets, you know. "Uh oh." He remarked quietly, since they were gonna be revealed apparently. Theo thought good, but he also thought it would just cause trouble. And a fiery relationship, too?!

Wooooooooah...

"Right. Mayb..." He began, but according to West, it was all rubbish. Theo always had his doubts about Divination, but that was only because he was terrible at all the technical stuff involved with it. After today, though, he felt a little different. "It's a little creepy, though, don't you think?" You know, the secrets thing was pretty obvious.

And that was time. "That's all the time we have today. I'd like to thank each of you for your participation regardless of the circumstances." Not having the best materials to work with was hard but they had done well without them.

"If you chose to write your reading results down, please leave them on my desk before you leave. After that you all are free to go. Homework will be posted shortly. Have a nice day." Callie smiled and went to hold the trapdoor open for them.
