Despite the warm sun rays shining in through the newly dusted windows, there was a chill in the air as you make your way into the arena. Spring was arriving, but the temperatures weren't much better. The familiar purple mats from the previous lesson were lined up in rows in the middle of the arena (free of sneezing powder thank you very much), each with their own individual, and perhaps slightly off color, miniature desks next to them. Pushed against the walls were sixteen regular sized desks, each with a medium square looking object upon the top, hidden underneath a white cloth. Nooo peaking! Professor Romanos was seated on her own burgundy colored mat in the front, watching the little mechanical bird Sonya run in circles around her while waiting for the students to arrive. Which should be soon.

"We won't think about the card alright, but what if we think something else? Then it will be distracted and try to, I dunno, do something with our new thought."
"The whole point of this activity is to try and not think of the memory, or in this case the card that I'm going to tell you, and to think of something else entirely. The ludegopuff is just here to give a little bit of confirmation that you're doing it right." On the other hand... "If it starts doing something weird, you can let me know. But, you'll know if you've done the activity correctly or if you cheat yourself, Mister Charlton."
Even if she herself wouldn't know.

Plus her doodles were just so much fun today, but then the Hufflepuff's eyes snapped up to the front of the room. "Excuse me professor, but I didn't say anything." She looked confused, the professor just said Wheatborn, but way would she say good job to her when she didn't talk. "It was Ella Bishop that just said that."
Did...did she really just mix those two up? Goodness, all the sunshine robed people were looking the same. "Oh! Dear. Forgive me, Miss Wheatborn. And Miss Bishop." Ahem. They could just forget that happened, yes? Yes.
OOC: This is the second time I've mixed you two up. *mellow* I'm sorryyyyy!
Now that everyone seeeeeeemed to be on the same track, Medea took out her wand and vanished the rest of the white cloths covering the ludegopuff's containers. They hopped, squirmed, and ran in circles, and would continue doing so until someone stood in front of them. "When you're ready, go ahead and move to a station. Place the three cards out in front of the container, and then wait for the card to be called out."
"Remember, you don't want to think of the card called out. You want to think of something else entirely, preferably something very easy to remember. If you do happen to think of the card, try and block the image before the ludegopuff can read your thought. We'll try a few simple ones first and then a couple harder ones towards the end of the lesson." And while they set themselves up at their stations, she was going to find Sonya.
Where was that eccentric bird???
OOC: Alright you guys! We'll be officially starting this activity in about 3 - 4 hours. Since we're low on time, there's going to be only 5 chances at this activity, and we'll end the lesson later today. For now your character is readying themselves at their station...preferably not tapping on the glass container. xD
If you have any questions, feel free to ask IC or PM me OOC.
Laura looked around she couldn't wait until she could this task because it seemed awesome and now all she had to do was getting ready she couldn't wait to try doing it and hopefully she would do good and the Professor would see she was changing.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Well this sounded cool enough. She sat as patiently as she could which really wasn't all that patient and waited for the Professor to say the last few things before the activity started. It sounded easy enough at face value. Don't think about the card, think about pink elephants...or was it that they weren't supposed to be thinking about pink elephants.
Were they still talking about those. They had an awful colour. She didn't think she wanted to think about those.
Could candy work instead--or ICE-CREAM. She could think about ice-cream. That was easy.
Lex jumped up when they were finally given the go ahead and quickly headed to a station. SHE wanted to go first. Waiting was for anyone else.
READY!

Looking around the class and not seeing any of those last minute hands shooting up into the air, she took it as a sign that she could continue. Standing up, she inwardly sighed. Oh, that was better.
"For people just starting out, there are a couple options that can be tried. First is jumping into occlumency head first...with someone using legilimency on them. Another is practicing by yourself, focusing on the 'clearing your mind' fully aspect of the art. Another is not clearing your mind, but focusing on a single object, nonstop. Mister Barrington and Mister Odessa had spoken something about pink elephants...if you all were paying attention." It was kinda hard to ignore something about pink elephants after all. "In general, if I say, don't think of pink elephants."
Eyebrows raised a little as she stared out to the class, giving them a few seconds before continuing. "At least ninety percent of you just thought of a pink elephant. Which would render your attempts at occlumency futile. BUT, there is a thought suppression technique, where you focus on one thing in particular to...distract yourself. This could be anything. A brick wall, a pink elephant if you will, a quill...whatever you so wish, just as long as it's not too complicated where your thoughts start to waver. As Mister Odessa so greatly put it, if you think you're slipping, and a thought or memory starts to come up, you focus on erasing it and continue to think about that one object in particular."
Moving to the closest normal sized classroom desk, which happened to be behind her, she pulled off what looked like cards from atop the square object hidden underneath a white cloth. "I will not be using legilimency on any of you, however, we do have a few guests with us today. They are tricky little things. Very difficult to catch due to their speedy nature and...you probably guessed it, ability to read minds; both creature and human." Pulling off the white cloth, a clear container was shown underneath with a furry little creature hopping around on the inside. "This little furry creature is called a Ludegopuff. Their abilities are very minimal when it comes to reading minds, but, they can do so enough to make them mischievous and lure creatures and humans into rather humorous predicaments, for lack of a better words. Insectivores, they don't do much real harm, and most of the time they're just a nuisance."
"But they are mighty helpful for us today. What I have here, and what each station has, are three cards. They each have an single object on them." Holding up the three cards, one could see there was a blue triangle, a red square, and a green circle. "You will place all three cards in a row in front of the container, and then look directly at the ludegopuff. This is where the occlumency part comes in. I will call out a card. Your job is to try not to think of your card before the ludegopuff does. If it does, than, you'll be able to figure out that just from it's reaction of trying to get to that particular card." Not that they could break through the glass or anything though.
"I only have sixteen stations, so a few of you will need to take turns. Is everyone clear on what we'll be doing?"
Did he think of pink elephants when Romanos said not to? Yes. More specifically, he thought of a certain blonde haired Ellaphant galloping into the sunset on a pink elephant.
... He... was really glad no one could read his mind.
Alec shook his head, trying to shake the mental image away. His grey-blue eyes found the Professor again and he tried his hardest to focus on what she was saying instead. So they could try and focus on one thing in particular and that would help to make him better at Occlumency? Okay... so could he focus on ice cream instead? It was his distraction technique during conversations. You know... if a conversation was starting to get slightly heated and weird and awkward, he'd turn the conversation to one about ice cream and hey presto! The power of ice cream! GRIN.
...
WAIT. Romanos said that something was small and very difficult to catch. Like harder than the Snitch? Was this a challenge? He blinked over at one of the creatures hopping around in a container. Yeah... they did look like they were hard to catch. And they were CREATURES! Creature who could READ YOUR MIND! Sort of. Scary or what?
The boy got up and headed over towards an empty station. There. He was ready.
Kace liked the idea of this activity. Plus the creatures they will be working with did seem rather cute. He wondered if they did relate to the puffs. Pushing that thought aside he went to a station that wasn't filled yet. The professor explained the activity very clearly and it didn't seem harmful.
As he got to his seat, he was ready. Ready to take it on. He knew when the professor called out the card he needed to think of something entirely different. That shouldn't be so bad. But he wasn't so keen on the creature being able to read his mind, but he rather have the creature read his thoughts rather than people that is for sure.
elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿
Ella hadn't even noticed that Professor Romanos mixed her and Min up. Truth be told, her mind was on elephants and pink ones at that. Oh and the fact that she was hungry. Hungry for ice cream, more specifically. Did pink elephants like ice cream? Ohhh! And did any elephants like pink ice cream? Important questions to consider, obviously. Anyways, they were starting now? BOUNCE!
The ludegopuffs...they were energetic, weren't they? Ella eyed them curiously before heading over to the nearest empty spot. Oh and she saw boyfriend, by the way. He got a BEAM from Ella cause reasons. Mhm.
She then did what professor Romanos said and placed the cards out, thinking about something else entirely. Hm. Something simple. Gummy worms were simple. A gummy worm sundae. Yup. She was gonna think on that.
If there was one thing he was good at, aside from always seeing the bright side, it was not paying attention and getting distracted. Perfect!
But wait...
"Professor," Tobias raised his hand. "I was wondering, if you think about something else, that means your attention is on something that's not your card, right? Which is cool for these things." He gestured at the stations with a nod of his head. "But if someone does lego-mency on you, can they see memories that you might not even be thinking about? So like... in that case would thinking about something else mean that you're not clearing your mind but kinda busying it up some more? Oooh, ooh! Or could that actually help against lego-mency because you could make your mind super loud?!"
Once, Tobias had complained about being bored to his dad, and his dad had simply told him to try to not think about penguins, and when he was no longer thinking about penguins he would give him something else to do. That had kept Tobias busy for a whole day, and this was the first time he remembered it.
"And professor? What if we think about something else and then forget the card and not think about it, but then try and remember the card and start thinking about it again? Because it's really hard to just not try to automatically remember something," Tobias added as he finally lowered his hand. Then he grimaced slightly and rubbed at the side of his head with his palm. This was making his brain hurt. Tobias was certain he was OVERthinking and that that would not help when it was his turn.

Minerva smiled "It's really alright professor, Ella and I are pretty good friends, same house, blonde hair, well when mine is blonde. It's an easy mistake." She hoped didn't mind being called Min at least. She knew she didn't mind being mixed up with the younger badger.
Bouncing up out of her seat Minerva energetically made her way to a station. These things were sooooo cute. Why were animals so cute, they were just adorable, seriously she could have like a farm of animals and it would be a wonderful place. These ones though could be trouble. "I'm watching you." She whispered and giggled a bit. Okay so not thinking of any of the cards, time to think of other things. Like does this little guy like treats, playing in fields, maybe even shiny objects..

Lego-mency.
Precious Hufflepuff! He could stay next to Forrest in her pocket. Forever!
"Legilimency...Mister Tempus." she chuckled quietly, having nooo issues with giving a big ol' smile to the first year. "What makes forcing yourself to think of other things besides the memories the legilimens is seeking, or currently seeing, difficult on the legilimens is not because you make it loud in your head." Preciooouuus. "It's because you're forcing the legilimens to see the exact same thing you want them to. They can break past your wall of a thought however, and see memories that you may not even think of, like you said. They can dive deep into your mind and force things to come up that you may even be suppressing from yourself. It all depends on the skill of the legilimens, and the skill of the occlumens."
Oh dear, he was sorta losing her here. She...got the gist of what he was asking? Maybe? "That...is the whole point of this activity. To not think of the card. Period. If you forget about it, and realize you're trying to remember it, try and stop yourself from succeeding. Keep that card faaaar from your current thoughts."
He got it?
Once everyone was settled at their stations, cards placed in front of the ludegopuff, Medea moved to stand in the middle of the room, turning around as she spoke to the class. "Alright. Remember. You don't want to think of the card that I'm going to call out. These little creatures are fast both physically and mentally, so you have to be quicker. They may not be able to dive into your mind like a legilimens, but they can read your current thought. Remember...you can think of a different object entirely, or try and think of nothing at all."
She gave them a moment to prepare before, "RED SQUARE!"
OOC: Here we goooo! What happens next is up to your characters. They may think of the red square or they can be successful in keeping the image from their minds. How they do this is up to you. I'm going to go ahead and let you guys RP but the ludegopuff does if you want. If they read your mind and see a "Red Square", feel free to have them jumping at the glass to try and get to that particular card in front of them. Or have them do something weird. Malfunction maybe. xD
Remember, it's OKAY to not be perfect. The rest of the lesson will be going by pretty quickly and, as I mentioned before, we'll be ending it later today. Have fuuuun!
So these little puff balls could read minds. Pretty cool.Though he would not want one as a pet. Now all Nigel had to do was think about poking a puff and he was all set.
Though it seemed easier in theory, than in practice. Most things were. Okay . So now it was starting a Red Square. Nigel liked blue better. So all he thought about was blue and pink elephants. Easy enough. He was in Ravenclaw and was not a blue hater. Now to think of past memory. Reverse psychology right there. Nigel liked to read anything in his spare time.
Now for some fun. If the puffs could read his mind. Might as well make them do something like Run around the room. No too easy. Starfish.
Yes Starfish. Make the puff starfish. Prefect. Now Nigel wanted to starfish also. It was pretty funny watching the thing try to starfish without no arms on legs. Looks like it is broken or something. Funny.

Jory stood at his station, waiting eagerly for Professor Romanos to get started. He was going to get this right. He was not going to think of the object she called out. Nope. He wasn't. He focused instead on...tennis as she spoke to Tobias. Yes! He missed playing that. He was thinking of his serve when he suddenly heard the Professor's voice call out the first object quite loudly!
Instead of tennis, Jory found his thoughts turning to the red ! "Oh no!'' He tried to focus back on tennis but the ludegopuff was already running around as if chased by a cat or something. Around and around it went! Jory stared. The thing was fast! And he had failed, too. Sighing, he tried to refocus on tennis. Maybe the ludegopuff would calm down too?

Lex was so ready for this. No puff ball in a glass was going to get the best of her. While she waited on the card to be shown she thought of what she would be focused on. Candy. Mhm. That simple. It had sugar and...and more sugar....that sweet taste that lasted for hours depending on how much of it you'd actually eaten...
...
.....
She needed her candy bag. Just one chocolate frog and she'd be good--there was something else she could think about. Those were YUMMY. She could just leave those at the front of her mind. They could stay there as long as they wanted and she'd have a few once they were dismissed--
OHAI RED SQUARE!!
Lookit!!! It was all red and square like. Ooooooooo. Lex stared over at it until she heard a scratching at the glass. The thing was scratching, trying to get to the red card on her desk. "Oi! Cut that out!" She tapped the glass repeatedly until it ran to the other side. "My red square. Get your own--" Oh wait....
She'd completely missed the point of this.

Oh, so the object was to think something different entirely. Forrest nodded to himself and after about half a second later, he knew what he would be thinking about: football. He walked up to a station, lined his cards and turned towards the windows. The sky was clear... if only he could see the grass... Quidditch popped into his mind instead of football, and how that girl--Ella?--was hit with bludger and nearly fell off her broom. Alice said she had really fallen off. Was it some sort of code? A step towards being cool? Like, if you fall off your--red square, NO!--broom, you win extra points of being cool in Quidditch society? Or maybe it was the thrill. The thrill of nearly dying or something--the thrill of boasting afterwards, yeah I fell off some hundreds of metres but I survived, hehehe,--the thrill of he didn't even know what.
Hmm... he peeked at the hedgelock--its name had slipped from his mind completely--and saw that it had nothing to do with red square. Good. That meant he succeeded in not thinking about it?
elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿
Oh gosh, okay, they were starting.
Ella closed her eyes and took a breath, trying to block out Professor Romanos completely. Ice cream. Ice cream. Ella loved ice cream. Ice cream was delicious and actually, she really wanted some right now. BEAM. Imagine all the cards had ice cream on them? Hey, yeah! The cards had ice cream on them instead of those crazy red squares. Why did they have something like a red squ-
WHOOPS! >.<
The blonde glanced across from her and saw the little crazy creature thing going absolutely bonkers. It was throwing itself against the glass right in front of where the red square card as. O__o Was it trying to escape? And more importantly, what would happen if it did escape? It wouldn't like, bite, would it? Meep.
Laura decided that she would do anything in her power to keep things away from her minds, she closed her eyes and thought about spending time on the beach with her friends, having fun, to everyone in the classroom she would seem to be asleep as she just concentrated on her thing, she had her eyes closed and she was going to ignore what the Professor was saying, she was in deep concentration.
Queen of Typos | The OTHER OTHER Roro | WICKED is Good
Cassia braced herself when Romanos said to do so. She also was looking away from the cards. The moment the professor said Red square Cassia shut her eyes and kept thinking GreenGreenGreenGreenGreenGreenGreen. She thought she was doing great! Only thinking of green and not red..jkgnriog! She just did. The slytherin shook her head and started muttering under her breat. GreenGreenGreen! Not working.
NOT red square!
Anything but red square. Nope that probably wasn't working.
And to prove her theory that creature was hopping or whatever this was called, in front of her. Dude, did it have to blow this up and tell the world that she failed and was thinking about the red square. The blond shot a glare at him, a nasty one. But it still was jumping.
Fiiine. She had failed.
She still was eying the ludegopuff, though.

When Kace was getting prepared, he noticed Marigold! Kace smiled and winked at her to show her he saw her. He hoped he could get to talk to her after class. Alright time to get prepared.
Kace was prepared to start the activity...then he heard the professor called Red Square. He knew it started and immediately started to think of something else.
Uh...Uh...Uh....think of home? Yeah that's it! That's what he needed to do! Think of home!
He thought of going back on the farm and dealing with the animals. He even pictured his grandma scolding him for doing the job the wrong way. He chuckled at that. He thought of taking care of the cows, chickens, dogs, pigs and hearing just all the animal sounds together. Then he smelled the choco chip cookies wafting through the air. He knew he had a smile on his face but he didn't care. He loved dreaming of home this way.
He wondered what the creature was thinking BUT nope he needed to be in deep concentration....

He got it?
Legilimency? "Well the world would be a much more peaceful place if there was more lego in it." So y'know. Lego-mency. Buuuuuuuuuut if she insisted.
Mhmm. Mhmm. Mkay.
Tobias was pretty sure he understood what the professor lady was on about and he just nodded and nodded and nodded as she spoke. Right then so he had to remember to forget to remember to forget the card that he was supposed to know but not know. Right.
He rubbed his head again.
"Okay, I think I gotcha," Tobias said, blinking vaguely. No, he did get it, super honestly. But it sounded like one of that was going to be a LOT easier said than don't.
And with that, Tobias did Real Life Actual Skipping over to a station and got the cards and junk ready.

She gave them a moment to prepare before, "RED SQUARE!"
"Hi little Legopuff!" Tobias waved at the creature in front of him and got all ready to remember to forget.
Okay.
Okay.
He was totally ready.
She called out the name and Tobias suddenly realised that he hadn't thought of something to distract himself with. His eyes went wide and he panicked and immediately searched through his memories to think of something that wasn't this class right now.
And he bounced on his tip toes over and over and over again as he thought...
Of back home and the sea and the pier and the pebble beach and the ice creams there and wow everyone here seemed to love ice cream a lot even though it was always super cold like how did everyone enjoy ice cream THAT MUCH 'cause Tobias was 'eh' about ice cream but here it was kind of like a staple food but then it was better than the other ick in the kitchens though Ella had said something about maybe making a cake oh man that would be awesome Tobias LOVED cake well he liked the icing but he supposed he should catch up on his schoolwork before he let himself have fun like making cakes because he already put things like quidditch practice before everything else wow his mother would have put classes absolutely first and speaking of classes he still had loads of homework to do and he wondered what the homework for this class would be wait this class OH WAIT WAIT WAIT HE WAS DOING IT HE'D FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE RED-
Oh.
Blinking as he pulled away from his thoughts and back to the class Tobias glanced at the creature in front of him just in time to see it just sitting there all confused and stuff for like a split second before it apparently registered Tobias' thought of RED SQUARE (which he now felt like was like a neon sign above his head). At once the thingy started basically charging at the red square card, headbutting the cage it was in.
"No, Bertie, don't do that!" Tobias pleaded in a whisper to the thing. Because YES HE'D NAMED IT. It looked like a Bertie after all. But wait, couldn't they read minds? Tobias decided it was an excellent opportunity to be a legopuff whisperer.
Are you my friend? he beamed his thought across to the creature. There was a pause and then... Tobias GRINNED as he saw that the little thing was NODDING. WOW. FRIEND.
What Toby had neglected to realise was that he was still bouncing up and down on his tip toes and that creature was now simply watching him.
Did that count as not thinking about the square now?

Oh, they were all doing rather well so far! Such concentrated looks. A few even seemed to have managed to keep the object from their mind, considering how still the ludegopuffs sat. Oh...what was this? Nope. Nope nope nope. "Please refrain from tapping on the glass, Miss Cambridge." These creatures didn't have all that big of a lifespan you know! Don't need to scare it to death.
Especially since she had to give all of these creatures BACK...
After another few moments, she called out the second card without warning. "BLUE TRIANGLE!"
OOC: Last thing, I promise! Feel free to add the previous card(s) into your post if you happen to miss it. I will count those towards your participation points. Just as long as you don't wait to do them all at the end of the lesson.
Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something...
So she heard Red Square.. Awesome she could do this.. SO do this. She wasn't thinking of that whatever it was. Nope.. She was thinking about Ethan, and butterflies, and Liesel, and fluffy. Yep everything but that red square, she focused and really focused to try and not think of whatever they were suppose to be thinking about. What else could she think about let's see Chocolate frogs, ice cream, yes ice cream in bowls. They could put ice cream in red square bowls. Yes chocolate ice cream in red square shap...
scratch.. scratch..
Oh.. shoot.. Minerva looked up to see the cutie scratching it's little paws on the glass at the red square. Darn she tried so hard, but maybe the cutie would like ice cream in red bowls. That's why he was scratching like crazy, he thought they could feed them ice cream in red bowls if he got it right. Well she would hurry and get it right for ice cream as well.
So she screwed up the first one, well maybe the second one and oh Blue triangle, she was going to do this. Trying to focus on quidditch, her wonderful beaters bat, the bludger, anything but what she wasn't suppose to think about. She was going to do this.. she was. Thinking about after class what she wanted to do. Maybe she could go to the kitchen and get ice cream. Yes that would be something good and yummy of course and it could be in a cone this time. The cone seemed to be a good place to put the ice cream. She was going to thinking about this not the blue triangle that could be an ice cream cone. Oh she thought maybe that would be fun if blue triangles were ice cream cones. Smiling and bouncing a bit, that would be great!
scratch.. scratch
"But I wasn't thinking of it this ... oh" How did she get her brain to go back to that blue triangle. She didn't start thinking about it. Stupid ice cream and ice cream cones, even though they were good and yummy. Looking up she saw cutie scratching at the blue triangle. "Yes, you won, you got me." She smiled at him and turned to see what was next.

This time she was going to do it successfully, okay? She was going to concentrate on something that she knew she could focus on. She'd just think of Alec, yeah? She thought about him all the time anyway so it'd be easy to think about him and just ignore Professor Romanos and what she was saying. That was probably really mean, yeah?
The blonde closed her eyes again and concentrated on the Hair Whipper. More importantly, his face. He had a nice face, Alec did. The kind of face that you could just look at for a long time and not get bored or want to punch it. Cause like, some people did have punchable faces but Alec's wasn't one of those. Alec's was the kind of face you wanted to poke gently or kiss. Preferably kissing but Ella probably shouldn't be thinking about that in class and she was sure she was blushing at this point. Oh Merlin. He had nice eyes too, Alec did. They had that whole changing color thing going for them and she always liked when they were more blue because that meant he was happy. Yup, blue like a blue triangle...>.< NOT AGAIN!
UGH. UGH. UGH. WHY?
The sixteen year old glanced at the ludegopuff again and saw it going bonkers. SIGH. It knew, didn't it? It knew she had thought about the blue triangle. WHY did she think about the blue triangle? Why did Alec's eyes have to be blue? No...no, she liked his blue eyes. She took that back. But still...could she get this right at least once, please?
She wanted ice cream again. Could she have some when this was done? Professor Romanos could come too.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
"Er...sorry Professor." But really she should have been telling the thing to leave her red square alone. She didn't say she was going to be sharing it--
kfgdfghdv!! BLU--
UMMMMMM.....
No...
Not blue....ICE-CREAM, the wonderful, cold goodness that she wanted more of. It was so tasty and blue--oh wait that wasn't right. Why did it have to be blue? That was a super hard colour to ignore, it was her favourite. She wanted everything in blue...like...like imagine if the square had been blue!!! Now she was in fact seeing a blue square, so much prettier than the red.
The movement in the box caught her attention.
It wasn't scratching away at the glass but it was staring from card to card. Looking for a blue square maybe? Well it couldn't have it! It was HERS and would stay hers in her head. Take that!
Unless she failed again? Technically no. She was thinking about blue squares not triangles.

Laura had her eyes shut still, she would not allow anything to distract her, but something in the back of her mind was telling her she really needed to look at the thing but she didn't want to, she thought about spending time on the beach with someone special and she kept her eyes shut as tight as she could seriously standing on the beach eating ice-cream would be awesome, she felt really relaxed now and she wouldn't give in, she really wanted to show the professor she could achieve things if she set her mind to it, so come on Professor next one please.
