Default Defense Against the Dark Arts Lesson 1 - NEAR THE LAKE

It was a pleasant day outside despite the slow dropping temperatures of the upcoming season. The mid-day sun was shining high and bright while the breeze was lightly blowing, making the day too good to ignore. The lake sparkled in the background and the merry songs of the birds as they flew from tree to tree gave the area both a tranquil atmosphere and well needed change of view. Purple mats were lined up in rows as they usual were in the dueling arena, though perhaps one could notice the absence of the short desks if they'd attended a lesson before. Professor Romanos was seated upon her own burgundy colored mat, smile as clear as day on her face as she waited for the students to show. Hopefully they weren't too confused on where to go. She did put up a sign both on the classroom and arena doors instructing them to head down to the grounds near the lake.

OOC: Class has officially begun!

Nigel did not know what to think when Romanos started talking in a English accent. What happened to her awesome foreign accent. That was whole lot cooler. Nigel wished he had her accent.

Nigel was so focused on her accent that he almost did not hear her ask the first question of the class. Hmm.. That was a pretty vague question. Well Nigel did know they were down by the lake. So maybe it had to do with water. Nigel raised his and answered

"Are we going to learn how to fight grindylow"

Nigel did know there were grindylow in the lake as well as the awesome merpeople. Nigel had always wished he could speak Mermish. Maybe in the future he would learn it.

Eliza was glad the Professor Romanos was still teaching at least. They'd lost a few professors since she'd been at Hogwarts and she wasn't ready to lose more. She smiled back at Romanos when she returned her greeting.

She looked around her, taking in her surroundings. Well there's the lake...with the water creatures of course, but there's also...wind, water, earth...distractions? She raised her hand to try a more abstract guess. "Could we be learning to deal with distractions in our environment? Or," another thought struck her, "Maybe learning how to continue to defend ourselves when being bombarded by other elements - like if someone tried to push a wall of water at us, or a giant gust of air - we'd have to know how to react to that tactic." That made sense, right?

Although, her beginning of the lesson had to wait just a few more.

Oh? Oh dear. Who in the world said that horrible horrible thing? "Oh, no dear. No." Despite the serious question, Medea still had the warm smile on her face. "I encourage creativity in this class, and if you say something vrong, than you can alvays learn from your fellow classmate's answers. Though I do hope you'll participate. Even if you may not know much about the current subject being taught."

With a final glance to her watch, and a quick tap on it again to make sure it was indeed the correct time, Medea sighed in happiness and
Back to the lesson. "Can anyone venture a guess on what we'll be learning today?"
Brilliant smile flash. FLASH. Amara grinned as she took a seat closer to the professor. "Cool..I was so terrified when Prof.Airey told me you would curse us" she said, as she sat down on the mat. "You know..if we put the toe out of the line.." Yeah. You'll find it at the Romanos class. That's what he'd said.

The class had begun and Amara was as interested in it as she was for Potions. What they'll be learning? Huh? "How about some terrific spells?" she asked, excited. DADA and spells are blood brothers, aren't they?

Michael was still trying to get over the fact that they were doing DADA down by the lake. He had imagined they would be learning defensive skills in a room, like the one his parents had at home, that contained different types of dummies to practice on, foe glasses and sneakoscopes. Stuff like that.

This was just...the lake.

He had been staring out over the water and almost missed the Professor's question as he sat there thinking about all the times he had watched his parents practice without them knowing he was there. He quickly turned his attention back to Romanos and then raised his hand.

"Water demons probably." He said in an almost bored voice. "Such as Grindylows, Kappas and Kelpies." BORING! "Or we could be learning how to use water defensively." That would be more fun.

I have no idea why we're here but it is a beautiful place to have a lesson in. But if I were to guess, are we going to learn about how to fight in an unusual environment, one that isn't the classroom?"
There was just something about one of the stragglers being the first to raise their hand in the class that made today just that more awesome. "That is a very creative answer." Medea nodded momentarily, though shook her head afterward. "Though not what we're learning today, no."

Blue streeeeetched and popped a couple of joints before letting her arms swing down by her side. Might as well get ready for the yoga that was inevidtable. "Weeeeeeellllllllll, are we going to be teaching the Giant Squid some techniques?"

Yoga-ish of course.
Oh! Another creative answer. She didn't even think about the giant squid! ...And had no idea what 'techniques' Blue was referring to. Perhaps for a future lesson though? She'd have to check their lesson plans. "I'm sure Bartholomew is fine without our help." Medea smiled anyhow, chuckling lightly. "That is a very good guess though."

Her hand rose slowly. This was in none of her books--not that it would be, she was more interested in the hexes than the actual other stuff to be learned. "The way I see it, there could be two options." Solemn nod. "We're either learning how to handle ourselves against the Giant Squid, but really I heard he's quite nice so that might not be necessary," such a good Giant Squid that she totally didn't have a near obsession with, nope, "or we could be learning about something else in the water like grindylows? Outside of those two guesses....I dunno." She did smile at the end though. Smiling made everything better.
Oh yes, there was grindylows in the lake too, wasn't there? Glancing out to the water, Medea squinted her eyes a little at it before turning her attention back to Alexa. "Both outstanding guesses, though neither of which we'll be learning today. Good try."

He was certainly a funny one!

"You were right on track with your first guess, Mister Belrose." Good try.

Sniffling quietly, Medea rubbed her nose really quick before nodding. Mmhmm. No, that wasn't anywhere close to what they were going to learn. "Wouldn't that be a fun lesson?" The students becoming the teachers? Oh yes! "But no, unfortunately that's not what we're doing today. I think our lovely Bartholomew knows a few tricks up his sleeve to have lived this long anyhow."

Sniffling a little more, eyes watering somewhat, Medea slowly nodded at the young Slytherin's very excellent guess. "Grindylows dear, yes. Though not exactly what we'll be learning today. A very excellent guess though." They were indeed by a lake filled with them after all.

"Are we going to b..." ACHOO! "Be learning about," ACHOOO! "About water creatures and how to..." she took a breath trying not to sneeze again, "how to protect ourselves against them?" ACHOO!

Why was she suddenly sneezing so much? She never had problems with the outside before....
Oh dear.

"Nazdrave..." Oh, goodness, was there something in the air? She was feeling it herself actually, and trying very hard to keep herself from sneezing. "Excellent guess, Miss Eventide, though no. We aren't going to learn about water creatures today."

.........

Nope, she held that sneeze in.

But he didn't want to sound like a broken record so he just raised his hand and said the first thing that came to him. "There are merpeople in the lake, right?" He didn't know if they would be considered something they would need to defend themselves against... but it'd be cool to study them anyway. Jake had thought about learning Mermish before, even.
Taking a deep breath, Medea nodded, only to...

ACHOO!

She wanted to hold that in, but good Merlin, felt so good to let it out. Her eyes could stop watering now. Right? Stop watering! "Yes-" Oh. No. No, holding it...in. There we go. "Yes, thou- ACHOO!... Though- ACHOO! Goodness, excuse me." Rubbing her nose a little, she pinched the sides until the need to sneeze again went away. Merlin, needed some tissues now.

"...though not what we'll be discussing today. Good guess, Mister Keller."

Then Professor Romanos spoke and well... he was not entirely sure. "Perhaps as others have suggested you are going to teach us about many of the water dwelling creatures." Though he doubted she would sit them beside the lake in hopes of dealing with a Dark Creature that could potentially harm them. And well... couldn't she teach a lesson on those things inside?
Debating whether or not to summon some tissues, she moved on to the next student who had their hand raised...or not raised. Whatever worked for them. Perhaps she should've chose another area instead of by the lake. It was really throwing off their answers. "Not today, Mister Odgen. Good guess though!"

Oh, goodness. He wasn't a new student at all! What was she thinking before...?

Sniffle sniffle.

Oh? "We are out here for the fresh air, though not because it's cleaner out here than the castle." She paused momentarily, holding down another sneeze while she smiled. "And no, nothing on water demons. Good train of thought though, Mister Odessa."

Turning back to what she was doing, she laid out her quill. "Achoo... Achoo.. Achoo" Sniffing after the last one she looked around, what was wrong with her today. Wiping her hand on her face, she hoped she wasn't getting sick or something. She had never had allergies so it couldn't be that.

Oh the lesson was going to start. Sitting up straighter, but still feeling that annoying tickle in her nose, she tried to listen, "Achoo" Honest to goodness.. she turned red embarrassed to have sneezed so much.

Now what were they doing today, hmmm what could they be doing today. "Professor in a class before we had learned about different animals that are considered to be part of the dark title. Grindylow was one of the ones that was discussed, and I Achoo.. achoo.. achoo oh, excuse me.. I'm sorry" sniffling a bit, she couldn't figure out what was going on. "anyway, I know they live in the black lake, could we be discussing how to defend against them today?" They had done that once before though, in their Care of Magical Creatures class so she wasn't sure she was right.
So, it was Miss Wheatborn who was sneezing?

She'd heard someone while the other students were talking. "Nazdrave." she said after the sneezes seemed to stop. Medea smiled and nodded a little, not minding the interruption. A few of them had the problem today. Herself included.

"An excellent guess, but not what we're learning today."

The castle was quite dusty.
Oh, goodness...

ACHOOOO!

Sniffle.

Fiddlesticks, this was ridiculous. Perhaps she should've re-thought the whole 'Lets do a lesson outside because it was a nice day!' idea. "Good guess, Miss Bishop, though no, not today."

ACHOO!

After he put his hand down, he wished he had said SEA creatures like everyone else was.

DUH, it was so obvious now.
Taking another deep breath, feeling the tickling sensation in her nose again, her eyebrows raised somewhat both from trying to keep the inevitable down and at the next answer given. Oh, Mister Kinsley. We know you're more creative than that!

"Why yes. Yes we are. Excellent guess, Mister Kinsley."

Sniffle. Ugh.

SPOILER!!: Notes

Defense Against the Dark Arts
Lesson #1:
That was the second time merpeople were mentioned. "That's leaning a little more towards Care of Magical Creatures. Excellent guess though, Miss Jones." She smiled and nodded encouragingly, glancing to the rest of the class. Hopefully that would steer them a bit in the right direction.

It must have been the sun in her eyes. She knew it had to be that. There were no other reasons. She brushed her hand through her hair and felt her face tingling once more.

Raising her hand she tried her best answer. "Professor are we..." she paused as she scrunched up her face again and made a weird look. "learning s-se-se-eelf defense" she finally stammered out. This was peculiar she had no idea why she had stammered over saying self. She didn't have a stutter and now people would think she did.
Oh, an answer that didn't have to do with water demons or the lake. She would've been even more pleased to hear so when her own eyes weren't watering from the tickle in her nose. "You're on the right track, Miss Johanson." Medea smiled and nodded.

Another creative answer! Specifically having to do with water and spells, and thank merlin, not water creatures. Some different answers were always welcome. "Not quite..." Her words faded quickly, her expression scrunching up until, "ACHOO!"

For the love of Merlin! She didn't have allergies! "Not quite, Mister Lecium. Terrific thinking though."

"Duel!" The open air, the mats and lake. It was the best place for safety and duelling, for sure.

Well, that was a fantastic answer, if she did say so herself!

Medea chuckled softly and smiled, sneezing forgotten momentarily. However, she shook her head after a moment. "Not today, Mister Charlton. A brilliant thought though."

She flicked a few pieces of dirt and grass, and probably a few bugs off the extra mat before draping it over her head and around her face. No disease for her, thank you very much.

And because of the mat covering her entire face, she couldn't really hear what the Professor had to say. And even if she could, she doubted the Professor would understand her. Instead, she just nodded her head the entire time. Uh-huh. She was so paying attention.

Turning her attention away from the mystery student with the mat over their head, her gaze settled on Marcus. Oh dear, another sneezer? "Nazdrave." "Perhaps they're going to share with us what a better time they are having underwater, than us--" which wasn't all that difficult, considering he was pretty sure merpeople didn't have to do their own laundry, "--in the castle with all the..." Dust! Filth! Sub-par conditions! "...stuff."

Stuff. "Maybe they're hoping it'll make us feel a little bit better." Or probably worse. Ezra had never seen a merperson but he'd read about them and he couldn't say they sounded all that pleasant. "I s'ppose we could be dueling, too, though, learning how to defend ourselves from multiple threats, all at once!" It sounded exciting enough, Ezra supposed - like a battle! But Ezra was only interested in battles as long as battles involved swords, and he was pretty sure this class wasn't about swordsmanship. Which, of course, explained his completely unexcited tone of voice.

He actually looked a little pale.
The Gryffindor seemed rather confident that this was what they're learning.

Nevertheless, Medea's smile grew as he went on with his answer. That was actually rather sweet. Though no, unfortunately it wasn't what they were learning. "Not quite, Mister Carver." She said, sniffling slightly afterward. Her eyes were watering up again. "Though you're beginning to be on the right track with your last thought."

Sorta.

"Are we going to learn how to fight grindylow"

Nigel did know there were grindylow in the lake as well as the awesome merpeople. Nigel had always wished he could speak Mermish. Maybe in the future he would learn it.
More water creatures!

"No, not today, Mister Barrington." she said with a sniffle, glancing towards the castle. Yes, any time now, the tissues could...could show...u-up- ACHOO!

GOOD MERLIN!

Oh, how creative of an answer! Medea beamed as she sniffled quietly, rubbing her nose for a second. "A brilliant guess, Miss Dawnsel." It truly was. "You're- ACHOO! ...ACHOO!" Goodness, those came out of nowhere! "Oh, pardon me."

Sniffling, she sighed and continued to try to speak. "Not quite on track with what we're learning today, but there is some part that is correct in what you said. Well done!"

The class had begun and Amara was as interested in it as she was for Potions. What they'll be learning? Huh? "How about some terrific spells?" she asked, excited. DADA and spells are blood brothers, aren't they?
...

Gryffindor first year said what?

Letting that little piece of info slide awaaaay for the time being, she did smile and chuckle at his rather excited attitude with his answer. "Theoretically perhaps. Excellent guess, Mister Kaul."

Oh, this one wasn't going to fall asleep was he?

Making a mental note to keep an eye on him for the rest of the lesson, Medea smiled and shook her head. "Not quite, Mister toussaint." Nope, nooooooot quite. Her hands fiddled together as she sniffled, momentarily glancing back towards the castle. OH! OH WERE THOSE HER TISSUES? She could just cryyyyy, the sight of them made her so happy.

Almost with grabby hands, she took the tissues she'd summoned out of the air. "Pardon me class. Must be allergies or someth- ACHOO!" Or something. She didn't have allergies. ACHOO! Blowing her nose as quietly and quickly as she could so she could get back to the lesson, Medea glanced to most of the class before placing the tissue box in front of her, close to the front row. "If anyone else needs a tissue, feel free to take one." She'd accio more if needed.

Aheeeeeeeem. Alright, back to the lesson. Sniffle sniffle.

"You all had some very excellent and creative guesses, though I must say, the lake really doesn't have anything to do with what we're going to be learning today. It's more for a scenic view." Well, for her. The students weren't exactly facing it. "What we will be learning..." Sniffle. "...is mostly theoretical, about two dark creatures, a bit similar to each other. She paused momentarily to grab another tissue. "Does anyone know how these two are similar?"

Hmmm.

What did those creatures have in common?

Gwen didn’t raise her hand right away. Instead, she tried brainstorming for some possible answers. They were both creatures (DUH)… actually… more non-beings. Both inspire fear. Hmm. ‘One of the similarities is that both the boggart and the dementor are non-beings’, she finally said.

Pause.

‘But they can be very alike, since the boggart can take the shape of a dementor…’, she mused. In other words, they COULD look EXACTLY the same. Right? So… they were similar in a lot of ways. Erm. Somehow.

Was Professor Romanos okay? The woman had been sneezing for almost half of the time she had responded to Beezus' peers. "Allergies, maa'm?" If so, allergic to what exactly? The wind? The grass? The view? Well, that was blatantly unfortunate. Beezus hoped their Professor just had colds though. That was better than being allergic to such an amazing view such as the fun they had right now.

....Dementors and Boggarts.

They'll be learning about those two creatures today. In theory.

A practical would've been great though, with the weather being nice to them and all. But she still put her hand up to answer. "Both creatures can be relatively associated with a person's fear, Professor. A dementor feeds on one's fear and a boggart can turn into what that person fears the most."

Ethan had remained silent for the first question.. well not totally silent really. Before he could give much thought as to guessing what they might be discussing in class today, he became very preoccupied with the growing intensity of tickling in his nose. He tried to imperceptibly wipe at it a few times, but the tickling grew stronger until he let out a loud Ahh chooo.

"Excuse me," he mumbled, as he glanced up to the professor who was sneezing a bit too. Um.. what was the question again, he tried to focus but the tickling in his nose was still present. He scrunched it a little, hearing a few more sneezes from a few other near him. Ahh choo, Ahh choo, he let out in the crook of his elbow as he lifted up his arm to cover the sneezing. What was wrong with him today? He glanced to Minerva sitting next to him who seemed to be having the same problem, giving her a confused look and shrug. Maybe they were discussing germ warfare today?

But no.. They would be learning about dementors and boggarts today. Ethan reached up and grabbed a few tissues at the professor's mentioning before thinking over the question. How are the two similar.. besides the fact that they are both dark creatures? Ethan raised a hand, his other holding tissues in preparation for the sneeze he felt coming on. "Dementors and Boggarts both feed off of.. Ahh choo. Excuse me, Professor.. they feed off of human emotion." He wiped at his nose with the tissue. "Dementors feed off of happiness causing depression and boggarts.. ahh choo, ahh choo." Ethan blew his nose with the tissue before continuing. Merlin, this was embarrassing.. he hadn't realized he suffered from allergies. "Sorry.. Boggarts feed off of fear." He grabbed a few more tissues and just covered his nose with them, hoping the sneezing was done for now and glancing around the area for a sign of what he might be allergic to.

Minerva glanced at Susan when she said bless you, "Thank yo Achoo" giving a small smile to show she was alriiii "Aaaaaaccchhhoooo" goodness, this was just getting ridiculous, she had never sneezed this much. Pulling her hands to her eyes she rubbed then all the sneezing had them feeling watery. Making eye contact with Ethan, she gave him a weird look, he was sneezing as well. What the heck was going on..

Trying to answer the question was so difficult with all Minerva's sneezing, "Thank you professor" well she thought she told her bless you, she wasn't really sure with the different language. "Achoo, Achoo" Wow this needed to go away, then she saw the professor with a tissue and she raised her hand, sniffle..sniffle.. "Professor, do you have anymore of those tissues. Achoo" Well she hoped she did anyway.

Putting her hand up again and giving a loud sniffle, "professor, both are considered dark creatures, and both can bring confusion and fear when around. The dementor makes things cold and unhappy, which causes Achoo sorry..anyway fear and confusion, and the boggart brings on your worse fear, which again will bring the fear and confusion. Both doing this to put you off guard Achoo goodness so sorry, but put you off guard so you can't defend yourself." Rubbing at her eyes again and scratching her nose, this was just so weird.

Well, that was truly depressing. Dylan was looking forward to hexing the scales off something. BLEH. He'd let his irritation settle, though...because this was Professor Romanos...and she'd always been a cool lady.

...and she'd just happened to bring up two of his favorite 'creatures' to talk about. Mainly because both had had an active part in helping him to finally cast a patronus. Yep, Dylan was pretty grateful to them both, actually.

To answer her question, though...and to elaborate on what his girlfriend had said..."I think because both feed off emotions...whether they be positive, negative....fear, anxiousness, depression...Also, boggarts can pull a really neat trick and turn into dementors if what you fear is fear itself...." Dylan momentarily put on an ominous voice....."Another thing, laughter and happiness drive them both away...but don't kill them."

...and he was TOTALLY eyeing all this sneezing.

It was a good thing he didn't have terrible allergies.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Daichi looked around him with a slightly raised eyebrow. Why were the Professor and some of the students sneezing so much? Well, whatever it was Daichi didn't caught it...yet.

He had been simply listening to the question because he didn't feel like guessing what they were going to do this lesson. But the next question he did raised his hand in the air.

"A Dementor lives on a persons fear and a boggart IS your fear, so i think that fear is what the have in common..." He lowered his hand and shifted uncomfortable on the mat. They weren't going to deal with one of those right? He really didn't want others to see what he feared...

Quite sniffly, Professor Romanos was. The blonde couldn't help but wonder if there was a spell that'd help clear that up quicker. She also couldn't help but be mildly disappointed that they wouldn't be working with things dwelling in the lake. She quite liked learning about the water creatures.

...

Boggarts and Dementors? Shudder.

Those were two things Ella didn't really fancy discussing since they liked to feed on/toy with your emotions and the blonde normally had an overabundance of those at any given time. She frowned slightly before raising her hand. "Professor, both of those creatures have to do with fear, like Bee said." Nodnod. "The dementor feeds on your happy memories, causing you to relive the worst ones over and over. The boggart turns into that which you fear most. Maybe for some, the boggart might turn into that which is part of their worst memory."

West put his hand up thoughtfully. "Well, after encounters with them, it helps to have chocolate. Like for both of them. Any dark creature really."

Just to be a bit different, even if he knew about the emotion aspect of things.

Were they gonna face fears or dementors? Hmmm.

If anyone sneezed on her, people were getting it, okay? Alice adjusted herself on her purple mat, angling herself away from the allergy people and raising her hand slowly, as to not to startle them into another ACHOO!-ing fit or something. "They both, um, have spells to ward them off." Of course they did, that was OBVIOUS, but she couldn't think of anything else to say that no one else had said already.

So. Yeah. Spells.

Dementors and Boggarts?

She'd knew both of them. YEP. And she'd seen a boggart, uh, her twin's boggart that was. Boggarts really didn't have any shape, did they?

Similarity... "UH...both are dark creatures" Heh. What a great answer. GRIN.

"Erm, both like the darkness...." They did, right? Atleast the boggarts did. She'd heard about the dementors when her parents were talking about their imprisoned distant cousin, all sneaking ofcourse. They wouldn't answer her questions about it...just yet. Maybe she'll learn here.

On the other hand.... the boggart though.....

Nigel was watching her sneeze time after time. It is just like Astronomy with Flamsteed itching constantly. If Nigel did not know any better. He would say that they were pranking each other and it would only escalate. But Nigel has been wrong before.

"Hmm, Bless You and and a boggart can be a dementor if you are extremely frightened of them"

Nigel would never want to meet a dementor. Those things were evil and could suck your soul out.

All that sniffle and sneezes. Jory felt sorry for the Professor. "We were way off,'' he thought when she said they were going to learn about Dementors and Boggarts.

What did they have in common? Jory pondered before raising his hand. "They both cause persons who come in contact with them a lot of sadness, Professor.'' A boggart showed them their worse fear and a dememtor practically made them feel they'd never be happy again.

Theo had no idea what a boggart was, but he didn't like the sound of it. As for a dementor, well, he had actually had nightmares about those things. And he couldn't help but think of a certain moment where a vacuum cleaner was sucking his cheek...

He raised his hand, putting yet another one of his vague answers out there. "They're both dark creatures. I don't really know what a boggart is but a dementor sucks out people's souls." He said it as if it was breaking news that he was sharing with everyone.

Uhm. Dunno. Since everyone was already talking and giving out all the possible answers to Professor Romanos' question, why would Kat bother to repeat the same thing twice or thrice even? Kat sat there and listened to all of their answers, and to the replies of the professor in front. Yep, they had her full attention... that is, unless she got bored and probably fall asleep but that was a bit unlikely since Defense Against the Dark Arts was a really interesting subject. Erm... yeah.

Ah, an interesting question. The similarities of a dementor and a boggart. Kat bit her lower lip, thinking about her OWLs in this subject last term. Oh... god. It was horrible, having to face her boggart at the end of that maze. Staying silent for a few seconds, she shook herself back to reality. Er... yeah, the question. Of course, people were right about the fear thing and the fact that they have a weak spot for happiness and laughter. Were they learning boggarts and the patronus charm?

Because honestly, Kat would rather learn the patronus charm than boggarts. Her Defense Against the Dark Arts OWL was already a pain to her and she would never want to face it again. Like ever. Remind her to go with a friend whenever she needed to pass by a nearby boggart anywhere. Ugh.

RIGHT. The question. Kat was being taken away. She raised her hand up to answer, but you know she agreed with everyone else. "Dementors feed off the happiness of people, which would cause some sort of sadness if someone comes near them. Boggarts, on the other hand, take the form of whatever a person fears the most." Pause. She needed to breathe. INHALE... EXHALE. "I guess their similarity has something to do with fear... and that they both are amortal." She was done. There you go.

Wowza!

A portion of the class was sneezing and Professor Romanos was talking about boggarts and dementors and Ezra was inclined to stand up and leave. He was disinclined to have everyone think he was rude or a coward or a rude coward, though, so he stayed right where he was and raised his hand.

He did, though, visibly edged away from a neighbor student and their continuous sneezing. For all he knew, it was contagious.

"They are both quite awful!" A similarity he noted had been alluded by his classmates though not explicitly stated. "Dementors more-so than boggarts, of course - although I s'ppose that depends on the person facing it."

"Very interesting creatures, they are, but unfortunately we won't be learning about them today."

......

She paused momentarily to grab another tissue. "Does anyone know how these two are similar?"

The young girl smiled at the teacher and was not disappointed that her answer wasn't right, it was a guess after all and she had knew that it was not correct. She would have been surprised if she had it right, but she wanted to show the professor that she was paying attention to the class and that she wanted to learn. While Sonea listened to the answers from the others she looked a little suprised, they were sitting next the lake, so it could be a water creature.

But after a few minutes she learned that it was also not a water creature where they would learn about, but Dementors and Boggarts! Sonea had heard a lot stories about them, her maid had scared her once when she was still little that if she would leave her bed when she needed to sleep that a dangerous Boggart would grab her! Sonea had been so scared that she almost was too afraid to go to her bed. Eventually had her maid told her that it was just a story and that there was no Boggart under her bed. Sonea had been SO angry at her maid! She was still ashamed about her fear for the Boggart, but she had been very young when that happened...

She also knew what a Dementor was, but she didn't knew why they were similar to each other, the only thing she could think of was that they liked dark places... And because she had no other idea she answered. The young girl raised her hand again and spoke hesitating, "I think that they both like dark places" said Sonea and sat back down.

Oh dear. "Good day, Mister Turner." she smiled and nodded in return, eyeing the wet streaks formed on his shirt and hair. Oh erm, hopefully that was just from a late shower. "How vos your summer?"
Richard smiled at the woman right after he got seated. It was a great idea to have a class on the grounds. He liked fresh air and the weather was nice; neither cold nor too hot. The smile still on his face, he looked around and to the lake a bit and turned back to the professor when she asked him a question. How was his summer? ''It was great.'' he said. He had spent time with Aurora almost all summer. ''I worked for a couple of weeks then went for vacation.'' Not that he needed money to work, not at all, actually his family did not want him start working before he graduated but he was already older than students here and he thought he had to start asap.

Shoo! Off her mat!

Ahem.

Back to the lesson. "Can anyone venture a guess on what we'll be learning today?"
Shifting to a more comfortable position on his mat, Rich watched the other students as they arrived to the place. He loudly snorted out a laughter when he heard that new guy in his house tell the professor how she looked lovely. *snort* What a weak attempt of flirting. It was funny how he told the same thing to every female professor. Could not he find any other words to utter? What a rookie.

When the professor spoke though, he turned back to her and...blinked. What they would be learning today? How was he supposed to know? Something about the lake? Yet he could not see anything dark with the lake unless it had dark creatures living in it. And its name was the Black Lake. Well...no. He had no guess.

And he started to feel irritation in his nose for some reason now.

Dementors and Boggarts."

She paused momentarily to grab another tissue. "Does anyone know how these two are similar?"
Excellent and creative guesses. Yeah...no one could say that he was not creative because he did not throw out a guess. No way. The Slytherin sniffed and rubbed his nose. The irritation started to get worse. Ugh...what was this. Suspiciously, he looked around. Were there any big flowers or something? He was allergic to something in the big flowers. But nope, he could not see anything of that sort around.

ACHOO

Oh no...there he started. This was going to harm his handsome face, it was sensitive and his nose quickly became red and his eyes watery. Okay try to concentrate on the lesson not the irritation. Dementors and Boggarts. Alright, the answer to that question was simply.

''They are both...'' he began yet...ACHOO ''Good Merlin! They are...'' ACHOO...

Was he dying? If only he could find what stirred his allergy.

*sniffle*

Garrick smiled at the Professor... seems she recognized him after all. Mhm. Raising his hand he said, "Well they both have to do with fear, don't they? While the boggart turns into what one fears the most the Dementor kind of... makes you feel nothing but fear of sorts. I mean, you feel no happiness during a Dementor attack." Or something to that effect.

And WHY were they all sneezing? Just to be on the safe side Garrick pulled his shirt up over his nose and mouth. They could all be contagious and spreading their disgusting germs at the moment. ICK!

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

jdfgjlfbldfgd!!

No. Way.

They were learning about THOSE two! Eeeep!! Much better than her guesses. Much MUCH better. Plus, it seemed like the class was getting back to things she actually knew--

theoretical?

...

......

.............

Forgive the zoning for a minute but she'd hoped her wand would get some exercise she was hopping to see at least one of them. Granted, she was still slightly bouncing on her mat but the theory almost killed it. Almost. This class wouldn't die for her, OKAY??? Especially not since she READ stuff over the summer. Yeah, she'd be on that for a while. It wasn't everyday that she picked up a book you know.

She raised her hand and was waving it about too. "They both feed on a person's emotions with the dementor feeding on happiness and happy thoughts while the boggart goes for fear and they can both leave a person scarred for life if you don't know what you're doing. Also, like West said, it's good to have chocolate around for them." See that??? Huh, everyone telling her to lay off the chocolate????
