CoMC Lesson #3

http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/...psf19c13eb.jpg

The final Care of Magical Creatures lesson of the term is being held in the same vicinity of the other lessons. From this central point, a person can see the barn, stables, pasture, and Sanctuary areas. Pretty much, all things creatures surround you as you step into the classroom area.

Just as last time, Professor Barlow doesn't seem to be here yet, but then again, the sounds coming from the barn sort of lead you to believe she just might be getting the lesson ready. Go ahead and take a seat--we'll get started soon enough.

OOC: The lesson will officially begin sometime this evening. The thread is open now for you to post your character arriving. It's up to you to decide whether or not your character should spend this time chatting, but just be aware that you never quite know how Barlow will react to that. Choose wisely and have fun! ;)

Tobias had gone with the option of SKIPPING to his lesson today. It was out on the grounds and as ever he had a lot of energy that he had to get rid of, so he basically skipped and gallivanted and pranced to his destination. It was a remarkable quick method of travel, so he was the first to arrive. Nice.

Flouncing to a halt, Tobias did a customary scan of the classroom area before taking a seat.

Though his feet still continued to tap and dance as he waited. La la la.

Care of Magical Creatures.

Ella liked this class lots, y'know. She grinned as she headed towards the usual classroom setup and noted that Professor Barlow wasn't around. She was probably getting things sorted and such.

Spotting Tobias, the sixteen year old BEAMED and flopped down next to the boy, placing her bag on the ground. "Hey there!" GRIN. "Mind if I join you?"

Though it was still chilly, a lesson outside was very enjoyable and exciting thing. No offense to other classes but classrooms were kinda boring. Besides she did like this subject and she'd been enjoying it even after Newlin left. So it was so good. The fourth-year excitedly headed out bundled up and all. She might have even come early. Something she rarely did. Or did mostly attending games than classes. Mhhhmm. Though she still came now early. Awesome right.

Cassia made her way to where the lesson is usually and now held. Only a couple of students were there. She offered them a smile. It really was early.. It did have an advantage of choosing the seat she wished, though. Yup. She walked in between seats and took her time. To choose a place where her friends might join her.

Finally deciding on one, the snake settled and waited wondering what this lesson might be about.

Company!

Tobias' face lit up as he saw Ella and smiled. "Hi Ella!" he replied as he stopped letting his feet do their dancing thaaaang and kept them under control. "I don't mind at all!" Of course he didn't. Ella was awesome and also maybe even his friend and TOBIAS LIKED THAT.

FRIENDFRIENDFRIEND.

oh its Erik ok 07-07-2013 10:20 PM

This Professor was hot. Nigel had to admit. Why else would he be walking across the Grounds to the lesson. The weather did not bother him. But he had no interest in magical animals unless they were dangerous. Those were interesting. But he would probably not see those until after he graduated and went on expeditions.

Well, it seems Professor Barlow is not here again. Might as well take a seat and see what they would be doing today.

FearlessLeader19 07-07-2013 11:08 PM

The final CoMC lesson for the term! And Jory's final as well. When he got to where the class was to be held, he saw the Professor was not there as yet. He waved to the others that were there. "Hey, guys!'' Jory took a seat, wondering what they'd be learning about today.

Expecto-Penguin 07-08-2013 12:54 AM

Woahh this was the final COMC lesson of the term? Where did the time go? He remember just starting this class. Ah well....he made it to the classroom and he noticed the professor was not there yet. Hmm....*shrugs* Might as well take a seat right?

Kace sat down and then waited for the lesson to begin. Hopefully it will be interesting! He noticed Ella and Tobias were there already. Sweet! "Hey guys" he smiled toward them.

Danielle_Daughn 07-08-2013 01:18 AM

skip.skip.skip. Mack was sad that it was the last Care of Magical Creatures class but it was beautiful outside for once so that had her spirits up. She had enjoyed the Niffler lesson a lot and really missed Ferdinand.

She entered the area and didn't see the professor... which was becoming a regular occurrence.

"Hey!" The blonde beamed at the other students. Quidditch had really caused her to come out of shell, and for that she was grateful.. she really wanted to make more friends and from other houses.

bitsyandtank 07-08-2013 01:28 AM

Asher made his way down to the class. He was really looking forward to their final class of the term and made sure he had his listening ears on. Nice and bundled for the weather, Asher arrived and took a seat. He glanced around to the students near him and wondered if they were as excited as he was.

DaniDiNardo 07-08-2013 02:13 AM

Hop. Hop. Hop.

She was all pumped for CoMC. Before coming to class she'd gotten herself a bowl of ice-cream, for which there was only a few splotches left at the corners of her mouth. She'd tried her best to get rid of them but it wasn't working soooo shrug.

When she got to the class there were a few students already there and no Professor. "HAI GUYS!!!!!!" She BEAMed and grinned at each of them, even the ones she didn't really know because that was how you went about making friends anyway. Then she plopped down and waited for the Professor or for someone else to show up...they could get a 'hi' too once they did.

While she waited, the Third Year bounced on her seat. Energy, she had it in excess and she wanted MORE ice-cream.

lazykitty 07-08-2013 02:37 AM

Where did the time go? It seemed like just yesterday that they were having the first classes of the year, now they were having the last classes of the year. And with every class, Sky was that much closer to being a seventh year. Yikes.

She placed those thoughts in a box at the back of her mind for now, though, so that she could focus on the class. It seemed like Professor Barlow wasn't here yet, or maybe she was just in the barn. Whatever. She picked a seat and plopped down in it, placing her bag in it's usual place and waiting for class to begin.

hpluvr037 07-08-2013 03:20 AM

Silent and silver, a stag gallantly galloped past several students into the barn, seeking out its intended recipient. Coming to the Care of Magical Creatures professor, the vapor glowed brightly and its mouth began to move. An ethereal voice, unmistakably male, boomed forth with a Scottish accent.

I's started. Shouldn' be long now.

The breathless creature dissipated into the hushed silence that clung to it long after its light had faded into oblivion.

The best thing about COMC was that it was outside and Mikey loved being outside. He ran down to the place where the class was being held, at full speed, just because he could and only stopped when he almost ran into an older girl who had entered in front of him.

He looked around to see who was there and noted that Z was absent which didn't surprise him. There were lots of Huffies though, no wonder they were leading in points. Looks like he picked the wrong house to be in. Oh well.

Spotting two of his housemates, Mikey made a beeline for them. "HI GIRLS!" He greeted them with a grin and then flopped down into a seat.

Charely Potter 07-08-2013 04:04 AM

Back for his last lesson in Care of Magical Creatures.. for the year of course. Heh, heh. Wade always kept his calm demeanor on his way to class, it faltered however at the slight breeze making him look around. Hmm? Oh.. Wow, was that a patronus? Wade's eyebrow rose as he saw what resembled a stag gallop towards the barn.

As soon as Wade dropped his bag to take a seat, he spoke to everyone around him "Hey, did you all see that?" Then looking towards the barn. "Wonder what that is about?"

Cassirin 07-08-2013 04:56 AM

Mo made his way to the open space where the CoMC class was to be held, giving the barn another hopeful look. Please please let it be magical horses. Please please please.

Speaking of magical... anything... Mo spotted the Patronus walking among them. Not a Barlow in sight, though, so who exactly was this message for? And what was coming exactly? Super ominous.

DecemberMoon 07-08-2013 05:02 AM

Eliza was super happy to be at this lesson today. She'd just had a birthday and was feeling extra chipper about everything. Things were all going to work out and everything would be peachy keen, no matter what. There really wasn't any reason why it shouldn't, right?

She made her way to the class area and saw that again, their professor wasn't around yet. However, as she took a seat, she saw that a patronus very clearly from the groundskeeper was present. Interesting...wonder what the means exactly? It's started...Shouldn't be long now? Sounds creepy. OR! Fun! It's started...like a party? Shouldn't be long now...like we should get started?! She tapped her foot, wiggling her toes inside her shoes, anxious to see what was going on.

So, waiting was getting boring. Sky wished that her classmates would hurry up and come to class so that they could get started. But she didn't have that thought for long, as a sliver stag went dashing past her. Okay. She quickly realized that it was a patronus went it spoke in a voice that sounded suspiciously like the groundskeeper. "I have no idea," she anwsered the Hufflepuff dude. "It sounded like the groundskeeper though....." What were they up to...?

Felixir 07-08-2013 11:09 AM

O____O

What the heck was that?

Tobias jumped suddenly as he saw a... was that a dear? A massive silver DEAR just WALTZED RIGHT in and nobody seemed as confused as Toby. And to top it all off it went and SPOKE.

The stag SPOKE.

IN A SCOTTISH ACCENT.

And then just DISAPPEARED.

Tobias staaaaaaaaared at where it had been. He'd been at this school for a while now but this confused the heck out of him and he had no idea what was going on. And what was starting? Why had the vanishing deer come in.

Blinking frantically, Tobias glanced at the other students. Well... they had clearly SEEN it... people were talking about it. So maybe it wasn't that out of the ordinary?

Tobias tugged gently on the Hufflepuff captain's sleeve. "Um... Ella?" he said in a much softer voice than his usual excitable tone. "What was that?"

Talikins 07-08-2013 11:51 AM

Care of Magical Creatures. Or more like Care of Gross Creatures that were filled with germs and dirt that Nessie didn't entirely want to touch. But she still took the subject, because she didn't hate all animals and learning to care for them wasn't so bad.

Professor Barlow wasn't here again? Oh well then. Maybe Professor W.W.W would make a surprise appearance or something. Wishful thinking, Heh. Anyways she needed a seat and so one she sat at and remained quite quiet, till she saw a patronus just popping into the classroom.

Weird. Was it Barlows? Definitely not considering the voice was male. Sounded like a strong accent...like Mr. Firths maybe. Hmmm. Pout.

"Um..what's started?" She spoke loudly to no one in particular really...but did anyone know?

That voice. It was a familiar one. Jory looked around expecting to see the Groundskeeper but all he could see was a silver stag. It's started? What had started? And what wouldn't be long now? He stared blankly as it faded. "What was that about?'' the seventh year asked, staring around at the others.

Weasley174 07-08-2013 12:58 PM

Laura was really having some fun today and she couldn't wait for this lesson, she had eaten the ice-cream that she had left and was already wanting some more but for now she had a brilliant lesson to go to, she was looking around when she heard something about it had started, she looked up, surely the Professor should ask a question then, this lesson was interesting to say the least, something had started but what. "It has finished?" Laura said to no one in particular well that is what happened after something started right?

TakemetotheBurrow 07-08-2013 01:13 PM

Ella smiled as Tobias welcomed her to join him and then little Kace was there and more friend and classmates were filing in. The blonde sat pretty quietly, pondering what they'd be doing today, until the Patronus arrived.

Uh.

Her green eyes went to Wade and she nodded, confused as to what the message meant. No doubt it was for Professor Barlow, though.

"That, Tobias, was a Patronus," She replied quietly. "Nothing to worry about. Someone can send a message by using their Patronus."

Great, What is the Groundskeeper doing in this lesson. Only one person has that accent and it is the Groundskeeper. That man needed to lightened up a little.

Professor Barlow was not here and suddenly The Groundskeeper sends a patronus. This was getting interesting.

Very interesting, indeed.

DuckyLinJi 07-08-2013 01:31 PM

Finding the students near the barn, Daichi slowly walked toward them. He walked slowly because he still eating his ice cream and he didn't want to get it taken away by the professor once he entered the class. So yes, sloooow steps to enjoy the ice cream.

When he was finally done eating, he entered the outside classroom at the same time a silver stag appeared in the middle of them all. Knowing it was a patronus, Daichi wondered who's it was. The accent reminded him of the groundskeeper.

....sooo...what had started? and what shouldn't be long now?

WEEIIIIRD MESSAGE WAS WEEEIIIRD.

And he wanted another ice cream.

Casey O 07-08-2013 01:57 PM

Marigold was sad it was already the last class! She looked around for the professor, but she seemed to be in the barn. Then she jumped when she saw the silver stag. Who was it meant for, and what did the message mean?

BLINK. BLINK. STARE.

That... was weird.

And kind of cool too, actually. Because it was a Patronus and being able to send messages by a Patronus was quite advanced magic, yeah? And this Patronus had said something about something starting and how it shouldn't be too long now. See, that was weird. And it was a weird way to start off a lesson too.

Maybe this meant that this was going to be an interesting lesson. Shrug.

...

"Do you think he's going to be joining us, then?" he asked, taking a seat next to his curly haired teammate and letting his bag drop to the floor, "The Groundskeeper..." His eyes flicked over towards the barn and he frowned ever so slightly. He probably could have gotten himself a nice big bowl of ice cream before coming then. Would there have been enough time? Hmmmm...

Also, they didn't mind him joining them, right?

Princesspower 07-08-2013 02:27 PM

Sarah was eager for another lesson, they had covered so much that term, as usual. She wondered what they were doing next. The professor was not there.. okay, not unusual. So she went to sit down... And then looked at who she was sitting next to... it was Mo. Oh dear... she had told herself in the observatory to keep away from him, as that would hep keep her thoughts off him and now she went to sit next him. It was too late and too rude to move so she stayed where she was. She was just not going to initiate a conversation with him and stuff. Where was the teacher?

Anyway... she could not wait for the lesson to start. She was desperate to talk, yet she knew the teacher would not approve and stuff. She was not as good as West in getting out of trouble... actually she had never been in trouble before so she would never know. It was a good thing that they had house points, as that kept Sarah at her best behaviour -- well, most times that is.

It was like she could still taste the ice-cream even though it was long gone now. Man...she was really wishing she'd taken an extra bowl with her to class. Lex was getting restless just thinking about it and the bouncing on her seat only seemed to get worse.

Her attention however, was caught by a patronus, neat!--waaaaait...the accent....Alexa groaned. She knew that voice and the accent and now she wasn't all that enthused.

Luckily she was distracted by something else--someone else. "Michael!" She grinned over at him as he took his seat. "You've been awfully busy haven't you? I can't remember the last time I ran into you outside of a class."....Probably the feast when she thought about it.

Merlin, had it been that long?

Colley 07-08-2013 04:55 PM

Recently Cat had been borderline obsessing over creatures wearing bow ties, any sort, magical or non, they'd all do. Even bad scary ones would look better with a bow tie, right? If a dementor was planning on sucking out your soul, at least he could be formal about it. Not that she wanted that to happen.

However, those were her thoughts as she took her seat and failed to notice that the professor wasn't in sight. The Slytherin tilted her head in the direction the stag had been and grinned, was Mr. Hottie Groundskeeper going to be around? Would he say more words with his fabulous accent? She sure hoped so. Let the fun begin!

Tazzie 07-08-2013 05:18 PM

Was she late?

After readjusting her reading glasses for a bit, Beezus' eyes went to her wristwatch to note the time. She had a little of at least eight minutes more before this CoMC lesson was supposed to start but as she started off to where the lovely Professor Barlow was holding the lesson, she couldn't help but notice that her peers were somewhat crowded over something..... Unfortunately, she missed the appearance of the patronus.

She quickened her pace and arrived at the scene then. No sign of the Professor. So...."Er, guys....is everything okay?" Clueless Beezus here.

bitsyandtank 07-08-2013 05:41 PM

"Ummm, did you all see that?" Asher asked the students around him. He hadn't ever seen anything like that before and wondered if it was a good or bad thing. Not knowing either way, and being rather curious, he decided to just sit where he was and find out.

Govoni 07-08-2013 06:29 PM

Dylan was confused...as to what the Groundskeeper's patronus meant. He'd started what? The Slytherin was eyeing his peers as he stepped towards the barn. There were noises...Was that Professor Barlow?

Yea, that patronus must have been for the Professor. It made absolutely no sense in other contexts. Siiiiiiiiiiigh.

Creatures, though. He liked this class. What would they be learning about today?

Maybe they could learn more about winged horses...

Uncle Moose 07-08-2013 06:46 PM

Oakey wasn't one for Care of Magical Creatures. He doesn't really require it for his NEWTs and he didn't take it for his OWLs. That didn't stop the class from being occasionally fun. So to the class he went and onto a bench he sat. he kept quiet for the most part until a large antlered Patronus moved around them. "A Moose!" Oakey barked not thinking. "Mr. Firth's Patronus is a Moose too!?!?"...

Never mind the accented message that was clearly meant for Professor Barlow. So it was none of their business to begin with. But he and Mr.Firth can go have a Moose Patronus party!

No wait...the Antler's were wrong, and the body was big but not as bulky...Oakey coughed "Never mind, close but no Moose"
They could still have a Antler's only party.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 07-08-2013 06:51 PM

Oh, big glowy stag thing. Patronus, right? That was cool. It briefly made Penelope wonder when she could conjure one herself and what it would look like...but then she simply shrugged it off. What the voice from the stag was talking about was far more interesting because she had no idea what it meant. Something for the lesson though? Hopefully. Something cool.

She took a random seat to wait for the lesson to start.

Emzily 07-08-2013 07:03 PM

Woooah... Theo had never seen a patronus before. He'd been thinking about them at the start of this term, and wondered if they were ever going to learn about it at school. The curiosity as to what his would be was a killer. The scottish accent. Hehe... Theo giggled.

But not for long.

He was busy picking bits of grass from the floor. That was much more interesting.

Anna Banana 07-09-2013 12:10 AM

Peyton was inside the barn finishing up on preparing for the lesson, when a silvery stag shot through the barn and paused in front of her. A bit startled, she grew wide-eyed for a moment before relaxing and focusing on its message.

"It's started?!" she half-whispered, almost as if she was speaking to the patronus itself. She wasn't, though. She was just surprised. She hadn't quite been ready for this RIGHT NOW, but...these sort of things couldn't exactly be planned.

The breathless creature dissipated into the hushed silence that clung to it long after its light had faded into oblivion.

She directed the creature she'd already brought out back into its stall then turned to head into the classroom area. The students should be here by now...

...and they were.

"Good afternoon, everyone," she said, her eyes slightly wide with excitement. "Here's a short little lesson for you--when it comes to creatures, expect the unexpected." Yes. That was words to live by right there.

"I had an entirely different lesson planned for you today, but...the unexpected does happen, and it happened...ohh, two minutes ago, I'd say," she added. She gestured for the students to get up if they'd already taken their seat. "Hurry along now--this can't exactly wait. Follow me to an little enclosure on the side of the barn."

As you follow the professor to the side of the barn, you come upon a little enclosure that looks big enough for a few creatures and maybe a small crowd. If you look close enough, you'll see the Groundskeeper, Mr. Firth, although you can't exactly see what he's doing just yet...

==========

OOC: We're staying in the same thread, even though we've moved locations. hpluvr037 (your lovely groundskeeper) and I are doing this lesson together. Please be patient as we work around one another's schedules to make this lesson a fun and successful one. It may last a bit longer than the usual lessons, but that's simply because we're in slightly different timezones. Thanks for understanding! :)

TakemetotheBurrow 07-09-2013 12:17 AM

Ella was busy pondering what might have started when Professor Barlow appeared. The blonde gave her a faint smile and sat up a bit straighter, ready to hear what was going on.

Oh. Something unexpected had happened? Ella was interested to hear more but it seemed they'd be relocating so she'd have to wait. The blonde picked up her bag and pulled it over her shoulder, giving Tobias a small smile. Whatever message was sent seemed to have changed up the plans for this class, it seemed.

The sixteen year old followed along to the side of the barn where the enclosure was, standing on her tippy toes where she could see Mr. Firth and...something.

What was he doing in there, anyway?

oh its Erik ok 07-09-2013 12:21 AM

And Now the Professor shows up. Good timing. But it seemed that things were getting interesting. Just like Nigel thought.

A entire different lesson?

Wonder what it was. Nigel thought as she ushered the class over to the Groundskeeper and somethings. Great now he was going to be taught by the Groundskeeper.

What next a class taught by the Caretaker or Peeves.

Kace finally saw the Professor come down, he let out a sigh of relief. He was afraid she wasn't gonna show. Then he saw the Groundskeeper there too? Hmm....now this lesson was gonna be interesting. The professor was even changing the lesson plan around? Huh....now he was even MORE curious.

The little puff went around the barn, and then he saw the groundskeeper there. He was trying to get a closer look and stand on his tip toes. He got there just in time to get a front view. Being the the little first year he is, he needs to be in the front to see everything.

Now Kace was wondering what could the groundskeeper have to do with the lesson.

That...

Sky was slightly startled when someone else joined in. Heck, she'd been so distracted trying to figure out what the patronus could possibly mean that she hadn't even noticed that she'd somehow ended beside the Hufflepuffs. Oh well. It wasn't like they bit unlike certain Gryffindors, so that was okay. "No idea," was her rather helpful answer. She couldn't see why he would be, though.

"It's started?!" she half-whispered, almost as if she was speaking to the patronus itself. She wasn't, though. She was just surprised. She hadn't quite been ready for this RIGHT NOW, but...these sort of things couldn't exactly be planned.

Expect the unexpected? Eh?

And then they were going. Sky got up and started following the professor and the rest of the class around to the side of the barn to an enclosure where Mr. Firth was...... well what was he doing? She couldn't really see from this angle. Hmmmm...... what were these two up to?

Bazinga 07-09-2013 01:38 AM

Minerva sat in the back, the very back. Not a place she was use to sitting, but she was hoping it was a place no one would notice her. She had been withdrawn and quiet since that horrid evening. She kept her eyes down and almost didn't notice the patronus until she heard Mr. Firth's voice and jumped at the sound. Frowning more towards the voice, she didn't mean to be upset with him still, but after that detention she couldn't help but be back upset about everything.

Her eyes lifted as the professor said about them moving. Sighing a bit she got up and quietly followed the rest of the class. Maybe after class she would go get some ice cream. She grimaced at the thought. Her stomach turned every time she thought of it since the plant fire, but she still wanted it, this was getting to be a very big problem in her head. She felt like she was going a bit mad with it. Oh well back to moving with the class not sure what was really going on.

hpluvr037 07-09-2013 01:50 AM

Standing in the enclosure near the barn, Alistaire Firth's ears perked up. Are those...? Yes, dozens of pairs of footsteps. "She got it, alrigh'. I hear 'em coming now." He reached over and patted something concealed in shadows--for the moment. "I hope those kids behave themselves, eh?"

DaniDiNardo 07-09-2013 02:08 AM

Field trip? They seemed to take a lot of those in this class but this time it wasn't anything planned....? Weird but okay, she wouldn't question it. Field trips were fun regardless!

Alexa hopped up and followed the others, wondering what exactly they were looking for that was so unpredictable. Changing the course of an entire class, it must have been epic, or at the very least something worth noting. Had to be or she would have ignored it, right? The Professor didn't seem like someone to waste time.

When she finally came to a stop her suspicions were confirmed. It was the Ground's Keeper. Lex groaned before she could stop herself; it was an involuntary reaction. The last she saw him, he was yelling at her and very clearly disappointed. She didn't count on running into him again so soon.

It should have been fine though. This was class. She wasn't blowing anything up. Attention, she was paying it.

LilFox06 07-09-2013 02:18 AM

Anya tilted her head to the side as what she assumed was a patronus disappeared. Patronuses. They seemed a little pointless to her. She never planned on being somewhere out of mobile phone range, meaning, she really didn't have use for such a communication process.

And it was with those thoughts filling her mind that she vaguely realized they were going somewhere else. ... oh. Right. She quickly grabbed her things and followed along.

...

Now. What was Mr. Groundskeep doing in the shadows there?

Her attention however, was caught by a patronus, neat!--waaaaait...the accent....Alexa groaned. She knew that voice and the accent and now she wasn't all that enthused.

Luckily she was distracted by something else--someone else. "Michael!" She grinned over at him as he took his seat. "You've been awfully busy haven't you? I can't remember the last time I ran into you outside of a class."....Probably the feast when she thought about it.

Merlin, had it been that long?

For some reason Michael found himself BEAMING at Alexa. Why, he had no idea. "Extremely busy." He said rather proudly. Although it wasn't from doing schoolwork. "I'm pretty sure that I''ve got the layout of the castle down pat now. I took on the Whomping Willow." And lost, but that was not important. "Annnnd I''ve been trying to find a garden gnome to wrestle with but no such luck yet." Bentley obviously kept a neat and tidy garden.

Oh there was the Professor and there goes the Professor, Michael raised his eyebrows. What was this about then?

He got up from where he had been sitting and glanced at Alexa. "I guess we have to go that way." Or something.

Jory followed Professor Barlow and the other students, eager to see what they would be looking at today. When he reached the enclosure, he looked around. There was Mr. Frith! But what was he doing? Jory shifted from one foot to the other, trying to catch a glimpse of whatever creature was hidden in the shadows.

Syd 07-09-2013 02:55 AM

... Okay, so they were moving.

Jake followed the group, looking above the flock of heads to see what he was supposed to be looking at. But... he couldn't see anything. He couldn't even see a professor. So, pursing his lips, he gave up. He'd just wait for a bit and see what happens. Care of Magical Creatures was usually exciting, so he was looking forward to whatever it was.

Beezus was going to ask someone specific - someone like Ella - what she was missing but at that moment, Professor Barlow arrived....informing them about unexpected stuff going on.

Upon the woman's directions, the Ravenclaw gathered her things yet again. It seemed as though they were moving to another location since apparently it can't wait....whatever "it" was, she didn't know and so, with an overall curious disposition, she adjusted her glasses and filed along with her peers to the side of the barn where Professor Barlow lead the group.

....So, what exactly where they here for?

.............

....That was Mr. Firth, wasn't it? What was he doing?

Charely Potter 07-09-2013 06:24 AM

Yeah.."Sure sounds like it," Wade nodded as Alec had sat near him, something was definitely among them. Hmm.. But could it be? Before he could furrow his brows on this though, they were all made to move towards the barn with Professor Barlow. He took his bag with him as he went with everyone towards the enclosure seeing Mr. Firth.

Hmm.. what now, then?

lemon 07-09-2013 07:38 AM

Moving?

Alice gathered up her things and tagged along with the group of students, trying to peek over heads to see and failing miserably. No height advantage here. The only possible thing she could assume was that a creature was giving birth. Was that what it was? She tried weaving to the front of the crowd, eager for a good look at whatever it was.

.. the groundskeeper?

She didn't really need a good look at him, thanks.

the fastest seeker 07-09-2013 12:57 PM

Cassia sat motionless when the patronous came. What was that? She listened to what other students were saying but obviously none had an idea of what really was going on. Her only thought that it wasn't something good. Her thought were emphasized when Barlow showed up and looked uneasy. Or did Cassia's eyes trick her to see that. And they were moving. Oookay.

The fourth year stood and started walking her bag in her hand swinging it back and forth. Might as well entertain herself while moving. Was that the groundskeeper? Obviously. What was he doing. And were they going to join him. One way to find out.

So she kept walking with the others.

Talikins 07-09-2013 02:20 PM

There the Professor was. The red head watched slowly, doing absolutely nothing till she was instructed to get up. Hmmm. Interesting. Was a some creature shedding or having a baby or something? Or maybe it was a unicorn, or some creature appearing form the woods. Heh. Either way Renesmee got up from her seat.

Waddling along with the rest of the class, the eighteen year old made her way towards the small enclosure in the side of the barn. She could see a figure standing but she wasn't quite sure who it was, till she got closer as well as heard the voice of the figure.

Mr. Firth. Definitely him that had send the patronus then. So this was what had started, she assumed? But what was it exactly?

DuckyLinJi 07-09-2013 02:30 PM

Daichi raised an eyebrow of curiousity when the Professor told them to follow. Where they going to see what that Patronus had meant? Well, what the Groundskeeper had meant. He stood up and followed the other students as they walked to the side of the barn.

Reaching the place, Daichi saw the Groundskeeper talking to someone or something in the shadows and he cocked his head to the side to try and see what it was. Stupid shadows was rising his curiousity even higher!

Ooo... Sarah liked it when people showed how adaptable they were. She was going to be adaptable too now and move as well, even though she had thought she would spend the lesson there. She got up and walked rather briskly over to the enclosure. Mr. Firth was there

Which kids? Were those goats? Or maybe they were the students. Sarah knew she woud behave herself... or at least she would try. She tried to make up what the groundskeeper was on about. Maybe something was hatching or something

Colley 07-09-2013 04:36 PM

Cat managed to nudge herself in next to Alice but didn't say anything to her friend right away. She was busy trying to figure out what was going on. Something was getting birthed and that was her guess. This would be interesting and slightly gross. Ew.

But Groundskeeper man. Heh. Cat nudged Alice and wiggled her eyebrows at her before turning her attention back to what was going on here. Oh, Firth... say more words.

Weasley174 07-09-2013 04:42 PM

Laura looked at the Professor was they actually doing a lesson that the Professor didn't know about, well this would be an awesome lesson then, she couldn't wait to find out what they were doing, she stood listening and then followed everyone else.

DecemberMoon 07-09-2013 05:31 PM

Okay this was getting more interesting as the seconds ticked by... She still didn't know what the patronus had meant, but according to Professor Barlow, they were moving to a new location.

She followed eagerly amongst the other students, all craning their necks for a glimpse at whatever it was the groundskeeper was up to. That IS Mr. Firth isn't it? It had certainly been his voice, and that looked like him down in the shadows there, but what was he doing exactly? The words It's started repeated in her head. And since she'd seen some witch pregnancy this term, her thoughts went towards that. Would they be seeing some little babies today? She kept quiet and looked on the scene, hoping to get more of an understanding soon.

Anna Banana 07-09-2013 07:39 PM

Peyton peered out from behind Firth's shoulder and glanced down at what he'd been attending to. Her eyes grew slightly larger once again as she realized she may not have time to build a huge lesson around this.

Turning back around, she saw that the students had followed suit and ended up in the little enclosure, as well. "Alright, quieten down and push toward the back. We can't have a huge crowd up here just yet," she said. There was a hint of nervous excitement in her voice. She just couldn't help it.

"So as I said before, a slightly unexpected event has decided to take place this afternoon, so instead of our regularly scheduled class, we're going to get a bit practical here instead of simply studying something," she said. "Now, because our main attraction is getting ready and isn't quite prepared for a big unveiling at the moment, let's start off with this--What are some ways in which magical and non-magical creatures are the same?"

Sooooooooooooooooooo........ like..... Zahra didn't know what was going on? As usual. What she DID know was this: the group was MOVING, and a crowd was gathering, and she was an ickle firstie and SOON wouldn't be able to see.

She did the only thing that made sense. She ran and HOPPED on her the Gryffindor Prefect's BACK. See? Now she'd be able to SEE, from his BACK, but also LOOK MUM - behaving because it wasn't like she could very well ACT UP on the BACK of a PREFECT.

Man, she shoulda been a Ravenclaw with all these smarts.

AND BOOM HER HAND WENT UP, WHILE RIDING THE BACK OF THE PREFECT. He better like, be holding on her to right? He HAD to be RIGHT?

Asher raised his hand "They both need our care to help keep them safe from those who wish to do them harm." He wondered if this was enough of a response and decided to add, "And they like ice cream?" Well, he figured the second part might not be true, but his grandmothers dog did love ice cream and so did his cousins crup.

TakemetotheBurrow 07-09-2013 07:51 PM

Ella was on her tippy toes, trying to see what Mr. Firth was up to. The badger was extremely curious and she couldn't help but to hope that baby creatures were involved. N'awwww babies! She also wished ice cream was involved cause she was craving a nice large sundae right about now. Actually, she was craving ice cream all the time lately. Just the thought of the stuff made her bounce.

When asked, the sixteen year old took a few steps back and listened carefully to Professor Barlow. What were some things that magical and non-magical creatures had in common? Um...she was sure there were lots of things. "Both magical and non-magical creatures can reproduce."

Eh, he did not know.

"Both can be furry." See, he didn't see they were all furry, but they COULD be. Theo hated furry pets. It did not seem natural.

It seems we've attracted an ickle Gryffindor

Once he heard the professor's voice, Jake did as she said and took a few steps back. That movement allowed him to migrate toward the middle of the group instead of the back, so that was good.

However, the movement also allowed something to latch onto his back. He reached back instinctively to catch whatever it was only to find that it was a person. A little person. He glanced back to see a familiar face of a first year in his house right by his shoulder.

...How was he supposed to react to that?

He didn't have long to decide, because soon the kid was TALKING VERY LOUDLY much too close to his ear. Well. At least she was right, right? Wrong answers in his ear would be even less fun.

His brain took a few more seconds to realize that he should answer the professor's question, too. He almost raised his hand before remembering that he was currently carrying a first year on his back. No hand raising, then. Hopefully the professor would understand. Instead, Jake just stood on his toes and spoke up to try to get attention to his answer that way.

"They're both mammals. Well. Some of them. I mean, there can be both magical and non-magical mammals." ...Yeah.

"NICE ONE," Zahra congratulated her RIDE. She tried to give him a high five, but... you know. HIS hands were busy, so she gave herself a high five in front of his face FOR HIM. THen she whispered (sort of...) in his ear, "GO GO GRYFFINDOR!"

And because it was just all SO EXCITING and because being Gryffy Prefect BASICALLY meant Jake was her Big-Brother-Away-From-Home, she gave his neck the BIGGEST SQUEEZIEST HUG. They were going to kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiill this lesson! Merlin. EXCITEMENT.

Michael wished Barlow would make up her mind. First she tells them to follow her, then she's telling them to back up. And what was she and the Groundskeeper looking at already?

At her question though, Mikey raised his hand. "THEY BOTH NEED TO GO TO THE TOILET!"

Speaking of...he probably should have gone before the lesson.

Eliza sighed a quiet protest, but back away as she was told. She didn't want to bother whatever it was that was going on over there, in the darkness. Whatever it was, it had the professor excited. Practical lessons are usually better anyway, she thought, still curious. Maybe we're in for something really cool!

She thought on the question their teacher had posed. Well...lots of things really. Like...almost all things. Kind of. She raised her hand and said, "Well they all need basic things to survive - like shelter, water, food...And I agree with Ella, they all have to reproduce somehow." And she didn't really want to know the how part, just wanted to see the long term, end result of it. Like maybe they'd get to see today...? Maybe?!

Okay, okay.....quiet, quiet....said Professor Barlow. Beezus SSSSHHHHH'd loudly at her peers to help out.

As the noise subsided, she listened intently. Getting edgily excited upon hearing the word 'practical' that she repeatedly had to adjust her reading glasses up on the bridge of her nose. They weren't divulging into theory like the usual but they were dealing with whatever this was here and now. Meeep. Meep. It's getting ready, she said. The brunette's dark brown eyes sparkled more as she raised her hand. "Professor, both magical and non-magical creatures respire. This means they take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide." Even those underwater.....but everyone knew that already, eh?

Cassirin 07-09-2013 10:42 PM

Mo climbed onto the fence and leaned out into the enclosure to try to get a better look at what was happening there. Not... totally obvious yet, but he was highly interested. Interested enough not to be hung up on the fact that they were this far into the year and hadn't seen anything really dangerous yet.

That was sad, it was.

"Professor, they have normal life cycles." Mostly. But they were born and grew and lived and had babies and died. Ciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiircle of life. Stuff.

"You need help, Mr. Firth? I'm real good with animals."

Anya looked over. And narrowed her eyes. OhhaitherelittleGryffindor. Little lion cub realized that that back was totally taken right? Because. As the girlfriend, Anya had exclusive rights to everything Jake related.

What did magical and nonmagical creatures have in common? Funny you should ask Professor. Her hand went half up. "They can have strong protective instincts."

And possessive ones. Yup. She was eyeing you little Z.

Another quiet lesson for West. Or at least a quiet West in a lesson. He picked up on the excitement and he was interested in the 'practical' aspect. Who wouldn't be?

Oh but still with questions. West considered this. Then he put his hand up. "They can both be bred."

... and his thoughts wandered again.

Tobias stretched up onto his tiptoes. At some point during the class moving to a different area he'd been caught up and ended up near the back of the group and now couldn't see a single thing. He jumped up and see if that helped but all it did was put him at shoulder level with a few people.

The Hufflepuff frowned slightly and suddenly ducked down, disappeared from the sight of anyone who might be watching him. Using his small size to his advantage, Tobias crawled towards the front of the group and only now truly appreciated just how cumbersome robes could actually be.

A moment or two later Tobias suddenly sprung up right at the front of the group with a smile on his face. MUCH better. Now he could see the professor. And could answer her.

He raised his hand. "They're both alive," he said with a nod. "Until they're not."

Bent over to check something, Ali heard his name called from amongst the group of students. He recognized that voice. It belonged to a Ravenclaw. A cool one, at that.

"Eh? No, 'm good fer now. Better fer yeh ter stay back fer the time bein'." He appreciated the offer, but this type of thing was definitely not something he wanted to trust to a student. Ali had never done this before; Peyton was a professional at this. That's why she was willing to interrupt her lesson--to help him. "But thanks fer offerin'."

Suddenly Professor Barlow had appeared...Dylan was a little unsure about what was going on...but apparently this had something to do with the patronus? Something was going down? The woman seemed to be getting excited and flustered...and it was the Slytherin's experience that usually meant babies...or jewelry...

Shrugging, he got up and followed without question. All would be revealed soon...

...and there was the Groundskeeper.

Hmm.

What...was going on?

....

The Slytherin suspiciously eyed all the things. "They can reproduce...or somehow ensure their kind lives on?...." TOTALLY SUSPICIOUS ABOUT WHATEVER THE GROUNDSKEEPER WAS.....doing...Merlin, this was about babies...Dylan just knew it...He seemed to be having a lot of encounters with this lately...

So...where they about to watch a birth...or something?

Syd 07-09-2013 11:25 PM

Baby lion and the girlfriend

The encouragement from Zahra was nice. Even if it didn't mean much, but it made Jake smile. The high five she gave herself in front of his face and the - was that a hug? - hug around his neck. A slightly hyperactive first year approved of his answer. Very nice.

That's when he heard his girlfriend. And her answer. Was he mistaken, or was that tone of hers slightly threatening?

The Prefect flashed Anya a smile, just as he saw out of his peripheral vision the first year waving in the same direction. He gave Anya look that he hoped was encouraging, because he couldn't really do anything else if he didn't set the girl on his back on the ground. And that would be rude, because she was counting on him to be able to see the practical lesson that was going to happen. Surely this was included in the Prefect description? Plus, his height might as well be useful for something, right?

Although. Zahra did have a loud voice and he was sort of worried that his ears would be ringing by the time this was all over.

Zahra was lucky that she was his best friend and they he knew that she was just playing because he had a good mind to knock her straight off that boy's back. He merely rolled his eyes at her. "I know that Kettleburn but I unlike you have decorum." Which he was sure that the Professor appreciated. Mikey stuck his tongue out his BFF and turned his attention back to Alexa.

At least she didn't pick on him.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 07-10-2013 01:04 AM

So they were moving now because of the patronus. Interesting. Penelope followed the rest of the class quickly, making sure to stay at the front so she'd be sure to be able to see. Since she didn't have someone to piggyback on like that girl was doing to Jake. Heh. It was kinda funny to her, really...although it was a good idea. She'd make Ascanius carry her if he was around. But she couldn't find him in the class at the moment, and she was at the front of the group anyway, so she could see just fine, mhm.

And there was another question about what magical and non-magical creatures had in common...hmm...she raised her hand. "I think a lot of them travel or live in groups so they won't be alone if they get attacked or something." There was power in large numbers like groups after all. Another creature usually wasn't really hungry enough to try to take on an entire pack all by itself.

Bazinga 07-10-2013 01:14 AM

Minerva still was staying back a little bit away from the rest of the class. She glanced up to see Mr. Firth. What did he have she wondered. Something was with him, but she wasn't sure what. Maybe she shouldn't have come to class today. After that.. She didn't even want to say that D word anymore. She needed a mental break, why did she think class was going to help her.

Sighing she heard the question being asked, but had to really think about what the professor had said. Taking a deep breath she put her hand up. "Professor, the caring for them can be the same at times. Feeding, shelter, bathing that sort of stuff." Animals were animals so they all needed that magical or not, right?

What did a tea cozy have to do with decorum? She had no idea what she was talking about. He so did have decorum...when he was at home...with his father. Mikey made a pig face at her before letting out a HUGE SNORT.

"You have to have points before you can lose them Zahra Kettleburn."

Who was the dumb one now?

Luna_Midnight 07-10-2013 08:42 AM

Nerida heard the question being asked and that is what brought her back to the lesson at hand. "Professor don't some of them eat some of them same food...Like vegetables and meat?" She was pretty sure... Yeah after finishing she smiled..Happy that she actually answered the question...

DuckyLinJi 07-10-2013 09:42 AM

Daichi's gaze went away from the Groundkeeper, still wondering what was in the shadows to the Care of Magical Creatures Professor. He listened as he stared at her pretty face and scratched his imaginary beard afterwards.

He did have some answers to say but a lot of students were already saying them. The Prefect thought for a few more seconds and decided he would let this question pass and think about ice cream...

Talikins 07-10-2013 01:45 PM

Hmmmm. Still quite interesting...or more curious tickling as to what they would be learning about today. She couldn't see though. Nope. Firth was quite well in the way doing whatever he was doing with whatever they were to see soon. Why couldn't they just see already? What was the hold on everything? Mmm?

BUT question. Ness averted her eyes off Mr Firth and looked back at the Professor.

What non-magical and magical creatures had in common? Pretty simple, no. They were both creatures. Duuuuuuh. But she wouldn't say that aloud, nope maybe something a little more intelligent was a better choice. "They all communicate in some way that is usually different to humans."That was more acceptable, was it not? She could think of anything else that hadn't been said so hopefully it was fine.

Sarah raised her hand," they both have the seven life processes of living organisms.. respiration for example is one of them" she knew more, she had to memorise them once, yet she thought it was polite got give others a chance.

With her hands deep inside her pockets she stood a little away from the other students, she didn’t wanted to be here, not that she didn’t liked the lesson, but she was in a bad mood and she didn’t wanted to work or to pay attention to any class today. She had received a letter from her mother, and that was a strange thing, her mother never contacted her while she was at Hogwarts, so now that she had done it, she had KNEW, before she had opened the letter, that there was something wrong. And yes, she had been right. Her mother had announced her that she didn’t needed to come back home, to her father. Her mother and father were now officially divorced and she now needed to live with her mother in a small mansion and… She HATED it, she didn’t liked it to not return to her old home and to live somewhere else! So, she had now at the moment TOTALLY NO interest in the lesson and stared ahead of her, half listening and to what the professor was doing. She even didn’t answered the question.

Oh right, answers and stuff. He had to do that and Ascanius had been ignoring that part of the lesson for all of the lesson. Pfft, not that he was missing much. LOADS of people here were answering, but he supposed he should answer to.

With a bored look, he threw out there, "Both have the word creature in it." What? An answer.

lemon 07-10-2013 09:37 PM

She was still trying to peek. Were piggyback rides allowed now? That one loud first year from Transfiguration was riding a Jake. Where were the tall people when you needed to climb on them for a view? Alice jumped a little, still trying to see over heads and things and.. similarities?

"They all bite, professor. Unless they don't have teeth." In which case.. it was a gummy bite. Toothless, but a bite nevertheless.

Would Ascanius mind if she climbed on him?

lazykitty 07-11-2013 04:09 AM

Okay, so it didn't seem like there was anything particularly scary going on. In fact, Sky had sneaking suspicion that they were about to see the so called 'miracle of life". Between her aunt, her mom and Professor Bentley, she was pretty much over it. Sorry, which ever creature you were. Actually, the poor animal probably didn't even want the audience. But anyway. "Both reproduce." That was her contribution to this lesson.

Yes, Peyton was somewhat nervous, but not because she didn't know what she was doing or anything like that. She'd been through this loads of times, it was just...in the moment type of excitement. Yup.

She just needed the students to cooperate. She hadn't exactly planned for THIS to happen in the middle of her class...

...but then there were GRYFFINDORS, and they were DISRUPTING the progress, and they were...completely out of line.

Not to mention that the Gryffindor's pushover of a prefect didn't seem to mind that someone was piggy backing off him for their own personal gain. Too bad Kettleburn hadn't been made a Slytherin. She'd have been great there...

Funny.... funny..... She ..... wanted him to come over and hang out with her though? A little. Jake got ANOTHER hug while they waited. "You see anything yet, man? Don't let me miss anything. I can't lose more points."

"KETTLEBURN," she said, in that tone of voice that indicated she'd had enough. She raised her wand and flicked it in the direction of the first year and her loyal piggy back prefect. A storm cloud of dirt rose from the ground and erupted in a POOF just before the two Lions, giving an all new meaning to the term 'eat dust'. "Settle down, close your mouths, and you," she said, eyeing the prefect, "pay attention to the lesson and stop offering yourself up for someone else's personal gain."

"You have to have points before you can lose them Zahra Kettleburn."

Who was the dumb one now?

OH, ...BURN!

Peyton inwardly clapped. Disruption or not, that was the perfect finale to the little show the Gryffindors had decided to put on today.

"Too bad she just took one for the team," Peyton replied. "Literally. Ten points from Gryffindor. Now act right and pay attention. All of you."

She eyed some of the Eagles, Badgers, and Snakes, too, just in case another ten or twenty needed to be slashed.

...but, NO ONE.

--------------------

So she relaxed her expression and even cracked a semi-smile as she said, "Right, right." All of you. Even Stark and his Captain Obvious of an answer. "There are many, many ways in which magical and non-magical creatures are alike. The one we'll be focusing on today, though, is how they both bring their young into the world."

She stepped to the side and gestured to the groundskeeper. "Mr. Firth's highland cow is about to give birth," she said. "I was meant to assist in the birth, but since it's going to happen right in the middle of our class, ...we're all going to assist." She looked from Firth to the students and back again. "Now, listen carefully as Mr. Firth tells you a little about the process. Pay attention, so you'll know what's going on later in the lesson."

Ten points from Gryffindor? GRIIIIIN It would have been even better if she also took away points from the Puffs cause they had way too many.

As the Professor continued the lesson, Daichi listened to her words, nodding every know and then to show he was a good listener and then stopped half way in another nod. C-c-cow birth?!

Well, that was something he had NOT expected. Unconciously, the Prefect began to shift the weight of his body on one foot to the other and touched his hair. A sign that he was nervous. Did he HAVE to see this? Cause he wasn't really fond of...births about anything...Not that he had seen it before, thank merlin not but just the IDEA.

Well...Ella was pretty sure that Anya-face was going to kill the crazy little Gryffindor who was riding on Jake's back like he was a pony or something. The blonde would doodle this scene if she was sitting and had some parchment but she just didn't have the right materials at the moment. SIGH.

Anyway....BABIES?!

N'awwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

The sixteen year old smiled a little until she realized what Professor Barlow had said. They'd be assisting? Like...all of them...in a birth?

BLINK.

Ella didn't know how to DO this. She just wanted to play with the baby later when it was all born and adorable and clean. Merlin!

She stepped back a little and kept her eyes on Mr. Firth, ready to listen to whatever it is he had to say. She could just...be an active listener instead of an active helper, right?

Or maybe not.

"Real fun games!" She answered in an excited whisper. "My favourite's the one where I hurl rocks at it and it swats them away. You have to be super careful with that one though...the thing has bloody good aim, got me in the forehead a couple times." The tree was a good sport too, never complaining no matter how many rocks she threw at it.

She wasn't sure it'd be something he was willing to play though. When the tree got you, it got you good. Lex didn't want him getting hurt. It would be her fault and she'd probably never hear the end of it.

Not thanks.

Uh-huh...there was the expected. She was wondering how long it would take for the Professor to take points with the way they were all acting. Pity considering their current position at the hourglasses but then...why not? If they were going to lose they might as well had done it in some kind of super epic way! No point in watching points when you didn't have many, they had nothing to lose.

Heh, a cool thought really.

Eehhhh....cow birth? That...that she had to admit didn't sound all that thrilling--not unless the thing suddenly went all vicious and went stomping around because of motherly nature protectiveness!!! THAT would be epic!!! She took a tiny step closer because now she WANTED to see.

Could they place bets on who'd pass out first?? Not everyone had the nerve or even the stomach for this kind of thing. Should be interesting. OKAY! Let the birth begin! Come on cow, she didn't have all day.

As Kace was standing on his tippy toes and trying to see, he did find a good place in the front. Then he heard the professor talking over the crowd and she was moving on and then she said they were going to see a....c-c-cow birth????? Did he hear that correctly? Nope he heard it loud and clear.

Uh.......gross..... He wasn't the one for watching this kind of thing.

Kace didn't want to be in the front anymore. He regretted it actually. He didn't want a full frontal view of the miracle of life. It just wasn't his thing. He was NOT expecting this at all. But then again he heard about cow births in his hometown. His grandma helped with a cow birth before he was even born. His sister experience one....maybe he could?? Then get some pointers for later on in life.

He debated it and decided he would brave it and watch it. Even though it could be gross and he hoped he wouldn't have to help with the delivery. He might throw up from all the gook and stuff on it.
