Now on to the incantation. "Now you want to be sure to say the incantation correctly, yeah? That's really important." And she smiled again, hoping he'd keep that in mind. "So like Professor Barlow said, the incantation is Immobulus. You should try that a few times before putting it all together." Nodnod. "Immobulus... Immobulus...Immobulus..." |
So the firsties WERE going to be handling the Ashwinders. Big mistake, Barlow, big mistake. Oi. But, was Sky going to help? Nope. The last firstie she had tried to help had gone all weird on her. Not cool. Then again, she HAD been trying out her best dry statement of facts on the girl........ Anywho. She knew the spell by heart by now, but threw in a bit of token practice just to look like she was doing something. Up, down, swipe left. Up, down, swipe left..... |
That sure was a lot of information about Ashwinders. She had no idea they were so interesting! Instead of repeating what others had said, she just drew a picture of it by the descriptions people were giving. So we're going to freeze their eggs? Does that mean we're starting a magical fire too? I wonder what it looks like as it materializes. And HOW does it materialize out of just...fire? Magic was amazing. She took down some notes next to her doodle so that she could start practicing the spell. SPOILER!!: Eliza's Notes Well first thing's first, practice the word. She sat her notebook down and stood on her mat. "Ih-moe-byoo-luss....Ihmobyooluss...Immobulus. Easy." She pulled out her wand and practiced the wand movement. Up, down, up, down... Or was it down, up? She checked her notebook again to be sure. |
Wand at the ready. YAY! Amara took out her wand. She was about to cast the spell..and uh-oh, people hit the spells on others. HUH? She looked around. So far too safe. Alright. Lucid movements of the wand. Up..down..up...down...left swipe.. "IMMOBULUS!" And nothing happened. Blink. Blink. "Immobulus!" Just nothing. "Uhm...someone mind helping me out here?" she called out loudly. Open request. Heh. |

"Alright i will try." he assured Ella. "Immablius?" he asked her uncertain. |

Okay, so... Immobulus. Mo raised his wand and concentrated on the motions as the professor had shown them. He knew this spell some already. It was called a freezing spell, but it really just slowed stuff down. Hmmm. His wand hand dropped, and Mo turned toward the professor with a question (many questions?) already forming on his lips. "Professor, why do we use Immobulus on the eggs instead of a literal freezing spell like Glacius? I mean... we're not trying to keep them from moving, are we? I thought we were literally cooling them down to keep them from setting the place on fire?" But obviously not. So what was the function of the freezing charm, if not to cool them down? And speaking of questions... "Also, Professor, I was wondering about the life cycle of the ashwinder? Because they're born from an untended fire, but they lay eggs. Are there any ashwinders born from those eggs? What's the point of them? And if they're created from a magical fire rather being born from a parent, then they don't have a proper life cycle, which is one of the indicators for a Dark Creature. Are they proper creatures without having an actual life cycle?" Questions. Mo had them. He did the motion for the charm once in the air just to show the professor he was ready for action. |
Jory watched as Professor Barlow perform the wand movement. "Doesn't seem too complicated,'' he thought, moving his wand in the same motion: Up, down, up, down and then a swipe to the left. He practiced until he got the hang of it. That out of the way, Jory now turned his attention to the incantation. He would try it without his wand. He didn't want to hit anyone. "Immobulus...Immobulus...Immobulus...'' That was pretty easy, so he continued once again with the wand movement. |

Dylan knew about ashwinder eggs. They had to still be frozen...most of the time...when added to potions. It was interesting to see this aspect of it, though. Actually doing the freezing and not just getting them frozen. For now, they were practicing and helping...He could do that. The Slytherin Captain had helped many a younger Year with charms. "Who needs help?" To demonstrate that he knew this charm exceptionally well, he raised his wand and mimicked the up, down, up, down, SWIPE motion. "Immobulus!" Icy air immediately started seeping from the wand tip...blasting a nearby leaf and causing it to ice over. |
Finally, something Tucker knew! Naturally his mother had focused mainly on charms in his home school lessons, so the Freezing Charm was practically second nature to him at this point. He pulled out his wand with a grin and did the wand motion - up down, up down, then to the left - and said "Immobulus!" while pointing at thin air. There wasn't really anything TO practice on, but he knew he'd be fine whenever they got to the part that required the freezing charm. |

Amara spotted this older guy performing the spell with ease. He just flicked his wand, and TADA! Man, she wanted to do it just like that. And just then he offered for help. She moved towards him in a jiff. She didn't want to miss good "I'm Amara Kaul" Maybe he would like to know people before he helped. She would. Maybe. |
Cool, they would be working with the eggs today. As for the spell.. Immobulus.. Wade definitely knew this spell, came in handy during Herbology, heh. Just for old times sake, he took his wand out and whilst turning away, so no one could fall victim to this, he did the motion, Up..down.. up.. down.. and swipe to the left. Kind of looked like mountains, didn't it? Now then, "Immobulus." He mimicked the Up, down, up, down, and left swiping motion before aiming at the grass in front of him that had been swaying gently against the wind.. to a full stop. It was a little overdone as it then looked like it could chip easily now. Whoops.. heh. Well, least he can still do it.. Hmm.. maybe he could try it wordlessly now. His school books were recommending that now for every spell. Wade used his wand at a different part of the grass, Up. Down. Up. Down. Left Swipe, Immobulus! He said it in his mind as he aimed at the ground.. Hmm.. nothing. Not even a spark. Meh, he would have to keep at it. "Anyone need some help?" As long as no one else needed help, of course. |
Laura smiled as she took out her wand and started to practice the wand movement, when she was sure that was right, she started to practicing the incantation, "Immobulus!" Laura smiled as she got it right first time and did a little jig. "Immobulus!" Laura was sure she knew it now. "Does anyone need any help?" |

Turning around, Dylan noticed a girl...with a Gryffindor Lion on her chest. Well, that was cool. He wasn't too stingy with his help. Alice and Penelope were Gryffindors, after all...So, yea. "Hello."....Cue semi-awkward head!nod. "...I'm Dylan..." Yep, just layering on some more smiling and whatnot...for added effect... "Show me what you know...and I'll help you correct." |

Dylan. "Uhm... Hi..Dylan" And she noticed the captain badge. "You're the quidditch captain?" she asked, visibly impressed. Back to the lesson at hand when he offered help, she drew her wand out again. "Erm..I don't know what's wrong" she said, gripping her wand. "Everything is fine..but.." OH, she would just show him. Up...Down...Up...Left... "Immobulus!" And nothing. There. See? "Nothing" |
SPOILER!!: Lexa :3 Back to the Freezing Charm. The Gryffindor seemed to have gotten the wand movement better now than last time. Bee watched with a smile that turned into a grin when she finished. "That's definitely better. Just don't hold down that swipe, yes? Keep it swift and smooth." It was one tricky wand movement but nothing's ever stays difficult with practice. "Now, you can try doing it with the incantation." As she said this, the Ravenclaw Prefect lifted her hand, brandishing her wand. Up-down-up-down-swiiiiiiiiiipe! "Immobulus! .....Like so." Your turn, Lexa. |

Exerting some patience, he waited for her to show him how she was performing the spell. There was one immediate thing he noticed..."You didn't swipe down at the end, love. See..." Lifting his own wand, he performed the complete motion for her...up, down and then up, down again...and then the swipe beneath all that..."It's kinda like you're tracing mountains..." "Also, try to relax and breath in and out. Don't stress..." She seemed a little tense about it already...and Dylan understood. It was a new spell and for a younger person, that was stressful for anyone. "Focus and concentration." Encouraging grin for you! |
West was also a little on the confused side like Mo, but also suspicious about it, like the professor was testing them maybe. He knew like.... Glacius and stuff. And Immobulus, and well... he figured he might as well do as asked, even if he was clearly wary of it. "I thought what Mo thought too, Professor." He chimed in honestly, hand up just for manners sake. But y'know, just to prove he was paying attention and everything... West tossed a stone in the air. "Immobulus!" He did the wand movement without any problems given how much he'd had to do the spell lately, and surenuff the stone slowwwwwwwed and froze where it was. But didn't freeze. Yeah. Maybe they'd have to do both spells? Freeze it so it didn't roll away, and then freeze it so that it'd be... frozen? Confusing. |
“Oh, i have read about this, but i don’t remember where!” Sonea looked worried around her, trying to see what the older students were doing and how she needed to practice the spell. A few students were already busy with practicing but Sonea herself had never done this spell before and she knew from experience that she needed more than one try to learn it. But, Sonea WANTED to do this right so she grabbed her wand, did a few steps away from her desk and chair and looked around her if it was safe to try the spell, she cared not much about the students who were standing around her and she didn’t knew, but she didn’t wanted to get in trouble if she would harm somebody accidently while she tried to practice the spell. “Immobulus” said Sonea and pointed her wand at a place where nobody was standing but the only thing what happened was that she felt a cold breeze over her fingers, and that was not the result she wanted to see. |
Ashwinders. Right. So ashwinder eggs were supposed to be frozen before harvesting. Kat was taking all of that in mind. She would take notes about what Professor Barlow was saying, but she couldn't be bothered right now to take her quill, ink well, and parchment out of her bag. It wasn't that she was lazy, but that it was probably all in her Creatures book and there wasn't much use in writing notes if they were all just in the book. No point of it but Kat was still listening to her, mind you. So right. Practicing the Freezing Charm. Not a problem for the Slytherin. She liked Charms and she knew what to do, yep. Anyway, back to the practice thing. If she was given time to perfect something, then you'd know that Kat would not waste any precious second of it. Mhm. "Immobulus!" Kat casted with the up-down-up-down-swipe to the left movement. Okay, it was a complicated wand movement because it required a LOT of effort and practice, but it was not a big problem. Kat practiced the movement a few more times to get the hang of it before attempting the charm again. Maybe she can try it on something... like tossing an object or whatever. |
Nigel would have thought the would cover this in charms and not CoMC. It just seemed a little weird. Nigel point his wand at a patch of grass, did the wand movement with ease, and cast "Immobulus!". He watched as the patch started to freeze over. Well this was an interesting charm. Nigel was beginning to get a little bored waiting. So he decided slow down the all the grass surrounding the one he just cast on. Though Nigel did wonder what they were going to do that required this charm instead of the freezing spell. "I agree with West and Mo. Why this charm instead of the Freezing Spell?" Nigel continued to use the spell on grass not caring who got in his way. |

Not to mention, he'd also used the charm on a certain friend of his over the summer for reasons. His mind drifted back to that memory for a few moments as he sat, not really feeling the need to practice the incantation or wand movement of a spell he had already felt to be mastered when he felt something hit him from behind. A spell.. and he was frozen. His mind raced while he was unable to move his body. Obviously someone hit him with the freezing charm, but he was unable to turn his head so he couldn't see anything but what was straight ahead of him. Hopefully the professor, or anyone, would see him like this so the spell could be reversed. And then he heard a voice and felt like he was returned to normal. He turned and gave Minerva an amused yet incredulous look. So it had been her? "Really, Min.. if you wanted me to stay here, you could have just said so. I wasn't planning on ditching class, honest," he gave her a wink and chuckled at the situation. "No, really, I'm fine." He gave her an amused smile to let her know he wasn't really mad.. it was just an accident anyway. He turned to watch her and Susan as they practiced the spell and he waited for the next step. |

Lesson, lesson. "Okay" she mumbled as she watched the captain demonstrate. He did it like..he didn't do it. Uhm, does that make sense? Never mind. She tried to mimic him to an extent. "Yup..keep calm.." And Yoga class on. Breathe in, breathe out. Duh, seriously? The fact that this older guy couldn't dock points off her seemed to put her sarcasm on the edge. Yeah... Up. Down.. Up... Down... You look like a clown... SWIPEEEEE LEFT. And she went whooooosh to the left...and.. "Immobulus!" It worked... I'm a born ruler. Pffft! Good spell! YAY! It went like ZHOOOOOSH and ricocheted straight at....DYLAN. ZOMG! "Oops" |
(a bit of Alice.. and Dylan!) Quote:
Anyway... Theo watched Professor Barlow doing the wand movement with WIDE eyes... What... was... that? The Slytherin pulled out his wand, and immediately forgot what the first part of the movement was, let alone the incantation. Did he really want to ask for help? After the professor called out for the older students to help the younger students, as in, the first years. Uggggg.... Ooh! There was Dylan showing some of the other students how it was done. He would subtly slide on over there. Dylan would obviously ditch puny first years for him, right? Of course. "Hey..." Subtle, be subtle. "Captain... I forgot the wand movement." Theo looked up at him expectantly. |
SPOILER!!: Gryffindor! Yea, Dylan was sensing some attitude...and really, the little Gryffindor was aiming that at the wrong guy. He understood she was a poor, defenseless First Year...but he invented sarcasm. Like...legit. Instead of making any rude comments, though...or buying into whatever she was trying to do...the Slytherin simply observed her perform the spell, rather sloppily, if he did think so himself... ...and when it barreled in his direction, the Captain flicked it off with "Protego." "I think you get it now..." Oh, look. Theodore... SPOILER!!: Kinsley! Yep, the Captain was TOTALLY ditching that First Year for one of his most favorite people. There was no shame in this. None at all. Theodore was inquiring about the incantation and motion...Dylan had known about the younger boy's 'spell shock' that seemed to take place whenever new spells were brought to the table...So, trying to be discrete, he nodded his head towards an area with less people populating it. "Come with me..." ...Away from all these people...because they were nosy and would be in their business... |
