Kace was onto the last step. Yes finally and then he could finally have dinner. His stomach was rumbling so much. Hopefully the Ashwinder wouldn't take it the wrong way. Kace took out his book and checked the last step.

SPOILER!!: Notes!

Collect your eggs and place them in a glass jar. Label the glass jar with your name, house, and year and place it back on the table.

After he froze the eggs, Kace went over and collected his eggs. He wore his gloves to be careful. As he picked up his eggs, he put them in the glass jar. Then he walked back to the lake where the rest of the class was.

He got out his quill from his backpack and then start labeling his jar
Quote:

Name: Kace Lecium
House: Hufflepuff
First Year

After he was done and handed it in to the teacher, he smiled at her and then sat down and relaxed with the rest of the class.

Susan was getting bored just looking at her fire. She was starting to think that she wasn't going to get an Ashwinder from her fire. Just as she was about to call it quits she saw the Ashwinder slowly get out of the fire. Susan thought it wouldn't be any problem following the Ashwinder when it all the sudden it picked up speed. A lot of speed, Sue had to run to try to keep up with it. Man these things were fast.

Her spell worked wonders the problem now was getting the eggs into a jar. She didn't have one on her. Maybe there were some back by the barn? Ah well. She picked up the eggs she'd frozen and went to find a jar--found one too--then she came back to the general area that the class was in.

Yeah, she wasn't about to stay by herself while the rest of the class worked. Nooope.

Before coming back she'd grabbed a piece of parchment which she used a sticking charm to attach to the jar.

SPOILER!!: label

Name: Alexa Cambridge
House: Gryffindor
Year: Third

Was there anything else they were meant to do now? Anything else they'd get to watch turn to dust? Were there any other creatures that turned to ash. Probably not. Plus, dinner time was getting closer so the Professor probably wouldn't have them do much more.

Probably not.

SPOILER!!: Steps

1. Choose a fire and add a few sprinkles of floo powder to it. This will create a magical fire. You may watch your fire but don't tend to it (unless you absolutely have to).
2. Once the Ashwinder has risen from your fire, follow its ashy trail to the EDGE of the woods.
3. Wait for the Ashwinder to collapse to dust.
4. Cast the Freezing Charm on the eggs BEFORE touching or collecting them. You should wear protective gloves as an added precaution.
5. Collect your eggs and place them in a glass jar. Label the glass jar with your name, house, and year and place it back on the table.

La de da. Just waitn' on a snake here. Move al......

Ah, there it was. Or she thought so anyway. It was kind of hard to tell with the logs. Not mention that it was starting to get a little darker. But then the Ashwinder looked at her from a point just a little bit away from the fire and Sky knew. Instead of just taking off after it, though, she started following it slowly, staying a good distance back, but still close enough she could see it. Yeah, she was dumb enough to just take off after a snake. They do bite, after all.......

Finally, after what seemed like ages to Jory, the Ashwinder began to look different. "It's turning to dust,'' he realised. As much as he was looking forward to seeing this, it was kind of sad. What a life an Ashwinder had. When it had totally turned to ash, he hurried forward to the egg. Time to cast the Freezing charm.

"Up, down, up, down and a swipe to the left,'' the seventh year said as he pulled out his wand. "Immobulus!'' he said as he performed the wand movement. A jet of light followed. The eggs seemed to have frozen. Jory bent closer and examined them. Yup! They were frozen.

Susan then stayed a little ways aways so the Ashwinder wouldn't get scared and go into the Forbidden Forest. Sue personally did not want to have to go in there if she could avoid it. Susan had a little while to wait for the Ashwinder to turn to ash so she decided to practice the wand movements for the spell. Up, down, up down, left; up, down, up, down, left.......

With his gloves hands, Jory began to pick up the frozen eggs, one by one and carefully placed them in the jar. With that done, he went back to his bag and retrieved a piece of parchment, quill and ink and wrote the label:

Quote:

Name: Jory Stonewall
Year: Seventh
House: Hufflepuff
Using the Sticking Charm, Jory stuck the label onto the jar and then placed it on the table. All done! He returned to his seat and waited for the rest of the class to finish up.

Patience was not one of Michael's traits so it took great effort for him to sit still while he waited for the Ashwinder to appear. He had continued to practice the wand movement for the charm but he got bored with that after about five minutes. He spent the next five minutes looking around to see what the other students were doing before that got boring as well.

How long did the Professor say it would take?

Michael was beginning to fidget when FINALLY he saw a gray head poke out of the fire. He watched as it slithered out of the fire leaving an ashy trail behind as it headed for the forest.

SPOILER!!: Instructions
Choose a fire and add a few sprinkles of floo powder to it. This will create a magical fire. You may watch your fire but don't tend to it (unless you absolutely have to).

Now he had to wait for it to collapse.

So...this whole Ashwinder laying eggs thing was sort of interesting. Ella skirted the forests edge and paced a little as she waited for her the serpent, Ghost, to lay its eggs. "Come on, Ghost, you can do it." She said encouragingly, chancing a glance down at the ground. She figured the Ashwinder might want some privacy and such, y'know, considering laying eggs was sort of a personal thing, or so it seemed to Ella. She just sort of figured if she was an Ashwinder, which she'd never want to be, that she'd like her alone time during something like this.

After a bit, the blonde looked down again and sadly, there were the eggs. This was only sad because Ella had to watch as Ghost collapsed rather dramatically into a pile of dust. WIBBLE!

"You were a good Ashwinder, Ghost. You slithered with the best of them and your eggs would be proud." Yeah...that seemed legit. SNIFFLE!

This was the miserable part. Mo had tracked his ashwinder across the grounds, starting at his fire and ending up near the forest, and now he felt like he was just waiting for his ashwinder to die. Poor Steven, who had never had a chance to live properly. Never learned to read, never had a sandwich, never flew on a broom. Not that snakes flew, but...

Flying snakes would be terrifying. Hm.

While he was considering that possibility, Mo almost missed the moment his ashwinder disappeared in a silent ashy POOF. His eyes watered for a moment, and Mo had valiantly stared up at the sky and cleared his throat. Flying snakes would have been ridiculous.

TakemetotheBurrow 05-19-2013 02:43 AM

Step 4

Okay, gloves were already on and poor Ghost was nothing but dust so now it was time to freeze some eggs, yeah? Yeah. Ella crouched down a little and placed a glove hand over the eggs, wanting to feel the warmth from them. Her green eyes widened a bit at just how much heat the red eggs were giving off. "Merlin, that's toasty." Speaking of toasty, some toast would be nice right about now. With jam, obviously. ...Maybe later.

Pulling her wand out, the blonde did the little Up, down, up, down and swipe to the left movement. "Immobulus!"

Poke. Poke.

Yup, all frozen here.

This. Was. Taking. Forever.

Rhodes was not the most patient of people, and having to stand around and wait for something that might not even happen was just so boring. It didn't matter how many pretend magic fire roasted marshmallows she ate, she wanted the the Ashwinder to appear and she wanted it to appear now. She had just been thinking about grabbing a whole handful of floo powder, to make the fire even more magic when, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a little bit of movement. Movement that had nothing to do with the fire, but instead, what was inside of it.

Or.. coming out of it. An Ashwinder!

Shuffling her way closer to the fire, since she wasn't sure how fast the snake creature was going to slither away, Rhodes dropped onto the ground behind it and followed it to the edge of the forest on her knees. For a creature that only lived an hour, it didn't move very fast. If she only had an hour to live, well, she would be running all over the place. Probably do things that she wasn't supposed to, too. But, luckily, she was going to live for longer than an hour. And yeah, she was still going to do things she wasn't supposed to.

But not right now, of course. Her Ashwinder was laying eggs! It was a girl, right? Otherwise, that would be weird.. Rhodes turned her head away from the snake, to give it some privacy.

Mika listened to Professor Barlow with rapt attention. This was so cool she loved it really. She loved learned about creatures they were just so beautiful, and living, and amazing. She glanced at the board and grumbled slightly. She didn’t want to start a fire – she felt that would be dangerous right? Dangerous.

She glanced at the normal fires that were around them and couldn’t help but smile as she found the one she wanted. A rather nice one that sat there, crackling away just a bit of a distance off from the forest’s edge. She made sure, of course, as directed to put on her protective gear and bring the supplies over to her fire. She sat down for a moment and just let the warmth of it radiate into her bones.

The floo powder she had grabbed earlier was still in her hand – and very carefully she dropped a few sprinkles worth of it on top of the fire. Immediately the fire began to spark a little more actively. She liked magical fires they were very beautiful.

TakemetotheBurrow 05-19-2013 03:06 AM

Step 5

Ella carefully gathered the eggs in her hands, being mindful to watch where she was going as she then headed back towards the table. She'd need a jar now, yeah? And a quill too. For labeling purposes and such.

Once at the table where the supplies were placed, the badger put down the eggs and unscrewed the lid of the nearest jar. "Alright little eggs, in you go." And one by one, she placed the eggs all the way inside. Then the lid was placed back on and the jar shut tight. Yup, those eggs were safe.

Next up was the label, which when Ella was finished read:

Quote:

Name: Ella Bishop
House: Hufflepuff
Year: Fifth Year

And...she was done.

Mental high-five? YUP.

She watched the flames flick and sway in the small breeze. How long did it take for the Ashwinder to rise? Peyton squatted next to the flame, her arms around her knees and her wand in her hand. While she waited Peyton pretended to whistle, though she didn't know how. Just made windy little tunes with her lips.

Peyton changed the tune when she could have SWORN to all that was raspberry flavored in the world that she saw a pair of RED eyes. Tilting her head to the side and then a bit forward she saw something slither under the flames. "Oooooh!" And then it sprung out, slithering the opposite way.

"Wait. Noooo. Come baaaack!" Why was it leaving her? She was it's mommy!

Getting on her feet Peyton chased after the Ashwinder, following the ashy trail it left behind; giggling along the way, feeling oddly giddy at this.

Thrilled that the Ashwinder had finally left the fire, Haruka followed the creature's trail to the edge of the forest. She kept a fair distance, as not to scare it further in. When the Ashwinder found a spot to lay it's eggs, Haruka stood back and waited for it to turn to dust. 'It's a bit sad, really,' she thought. 'They only live to lay eggs, and then they go poof.'

Where Steven had disappeared (Alas, poor Steven...), there was a tidy pile of eggs left behind. Ashy, smudged eggs, but still... that was the point, right? Maybe he could name the eggs too, only that seemed like... a terrible idea. Really terrible.

He needed to freeze the eggs, but first Mo fished around in his pockets for his gloves. Not that casting a spell was easy while wearing gloves or anything, but maybe that was part of the idea? Once the gloves were tugged into place, Mo leaned over the eggs for a better look.

Ouch. He could feel them radiating heat already. If he wanted to prevent them from setting fire to the forest, he needed to cast the Freezing Charm quickly. "Immobulus."

Peyton skirted around other student's fires, trying not to get into their business, or burn a foot or something. The Ashwinder that her fire had birthed slithered off toward the forest without a backward glance. For a moment Peyton thought it'd actually go into the forest and get lost in there.

There was no way she was entering the forest on her own. She didn't want to die, thank you very much. ^__^

She stopped a few steps short of where the grounds connected with the forest, and to her luck, the Ashwinder coiled in on itself. Not wanting to interrupt, Peyton stood where she was.

It happened all of the sudden. First there was an Ashwinder, she turned away and when she turned back to face it, it was turning to dust and the POOF.

GONE...

If Theo was glaring, Alice wasn't noticing it.

Instead, she continued freezing her stone until the professor gave further instructions. "Ih-MOH-byoo-luhs. Immobulus." She tossed the rock up in the air again and directed her wand at it as she repeated the incantation again. "Immobulus." Up, down, up, down, swipe to the left. It slowed and froze where it was, like it was S'POSED to, and Alice stopped practicing after that, not bothering to try it loads of times if she already had the charm down.

Were they moving on already? She retrieved her equipment before choosing a fire pit, one on the far side of the group and away from certain people, before settling beside it and pushing her fingers into the floo powder. Just a pinch, yeah? Alice sprinkled some into the flames and moved back a little, close enough to watch but far enough to not be provoked to fuss with it.

She stared at the fire expectantly. Where was the Ashwinder?

Chasing after a creature. I am chasing after a magical creature, holding jars and waiting for it to lay eggs. Which I will then collect. These thoughts ran through Tanner's head as she chased after her Ashwinder. She would much rather not be chasing after a creature that looked terrifying and could rip her head off (probably) but assignments were assignments. She didn't find much use in useless protesting. It was one trait she hadn't inherited from her last family.

The eleven year old caught up to the creature, keeping a safe distance from both it and the forest. She didn't want to scare it, but more so, she didn't want to make it run away, or attack her. Both seemed like horrible options.

According to the board (if she remembered this correctly) she had to wait for the stinking Ashwinder to lay eggs. After that she stopped reading, although she knew they had to use the charm from the lesson somewhere along the line. On the eggs if she had to guess.

Now seemed like the perfect time to get last minute practice in. After all, what if the snake like creature tried to attack her and she had to freeze it? Wait, that's what happened right? Ehh, she had no idea. She was still thinking about the last family and their awesomeness.

What was the spells name again? Uggh, she had just done this! She had to get less distracted. Immobile? No wait that wasn't weird sounding. According to the eleven year old, all of the spells she had learned so far had sounded weird, and that's actually how she had been basing what the spells names were. What sounded weirdest. mobile? Not right either. It had an us at the end. Or somewhere in the spell. She knew there was an us in there.

Okay, this thing had to lay it's eggs soon, or she was going to pass out from waiting. Maybe she was being a tiny bit dramatic, but she still hated waiting!

Oh, time to create some ashwinders now? Or...whatever you wanted to call it. Either way, hopefully it'd be fun.

Penelope grabbed some floo powder, gloves, and glass jar then looked around for a fire that no one had gone over to yet. There was one not too far away that hadn't been taken yet, so she headed over that way with her items in her arms.

Once she reached it, she set the jar down on the ground beside her and started sprinkling a few bits of floo powder over the fire. Then she stepped back a few paces with her jar and gloves, and...waited, squinting at the fire and not messing with it or tending to it.

Come out, come out, little ashwinder...

This was taking just as long as waiting for the Ashwinder to come out of the fire. It was moving so slowly towards the forest and Michael was tempted to help push it along. He supposed though if he had only one hour to live then he would probably take his time to take in the sights.

He also hoped that the Ashwinder didn't take too much longer because the closer they got to the forest, the more he itched to go exploring in there. He was sure that it wasn't as bad as everyone kept saying.

As they reached the edge, Michael let out an exasperated breath, this was taking FOREVER! But just as he had that thought, the Ashwinder was suddenly no longer a serpent but a pile of ash. Considering he couldn't wait for the things to die only moments ago, Michael felt a flicker of sadness for the Ashwinder, what a waste of a life.

He placed his hand over his heart and whistled the funeral march before giving the pile of ash a moments silence and then he looked down at his parchment to read the rest of his instructions.

The process took sooooo much time that she was beginning to feel if there was an actual process at all.

Fire place, done.
Floo powder, done-o-done.
Brilliant SUPER flame, done-sy.

Ashwinder raising from the ashes....UGHH, undone.

Come on Ashy boy, what's taking so long? She took a teeny step forward to examine the fire. What's the funny clicking noise? The fire was shifting... SHIFTING?

ZOMG! I created a fire demon!

And the Ashy rose, with style. Well it's STILL a fire demon, rose from the fire. Alright? Those piercing red eyes stared hard at her and she stared back. She was anything but fascinated with snakes. Snakes, snakes..wonderful creatures.

It slopped down to the floor gently and slithered, leaving a trail of ashes behind it. Moving with unquestionable charm.

BAH, show-off. And Amara followed it, out of the class...out into the grounds.

He must have completed the intricate up and down wand motion correctly, because spell appeared to have effectively frozen the eggs. Not that it was easy to tell if an egg was frozen when it wasn't even moving to begin with, but Mo decided he was successful.

He was SURE of it when he reached for the eggs, still wearing gloves, and was able to touch them without any heat radiating. Each egg went into the glass jar provided by the professor, carefully placed so there was no jostling.

How long did the professor say this would take? Alice continued shooting her fire expectant looks as she pulled on her gloves and waited for the Ashwinder to appear. She fiddled with the Floo powder for about three minutes, after which her attention was lost again. For the next three or so minutes, she practiced the wand movement for the freezing charm a couple more times before that got redundant, too.

Waiting was getting boring too fast and she was going to have to start entertaining herself to keep from looking over at- was that a head?

Focus back on the fire, she leaned closer to the flames and watched as she caught sight of the Ashwinder's burning red eyes and the rest of its slender body, moving away from the fire and toward the edge of the forest. Alice stood immediately and started following the ashy trail it left behind, careful to keep her distance until it reached there. And now what? Dust?

Because Hogwarts obviously didn't have a sufficient amount of that.
