Another chilly Winter day left the Charms room a bit cool and drafty, but that's the way Ivy liked it. It made sure the students stayed awake and alert, rather than warm and cozy and sleepy.
The classroom looks quite different than normal today. The desks and chairs are gone. Instead, almost two dozen single doorways placed around the room in several rows. The professor is standing at the front of the room with her own doorway just a few feet away from her desk. On the chalkboard is a simple message:
"Find a partner and pick a door.
Quietly."
Class has now officially started! Please do not RP your students coming into class late, just RP them as thought they've been there all along. Don't want to lose points, now do ya!

He listened to the instruction, visualizing the tracing of his wand in his mind, and storing the incantation in his memory before turning to Mo as he spoke. Amused, he chuckled a bit and added, "We could claim the treehouse for Ravenclaw.. or hold secret Quidditch practices that can't be stalked by the other team.." And then his thoughts turned a bit un-prefectly, so he shrugged it off and turned back to the task at hand.
"So.. Intrudus Concutio, right?" It was probably in his best interest to practice this one a few times.. Ethan knew his success rate of trying out brand new spells. "In-TROO-duss con-COO-shee-oh.. Intrudus Concutio.." Then he turned to Mo. "Do you want to try it first?"
"We should always put the charm on the locker room when we talk about strategy," Mo wagged his eyebrows at Ethan before his whole face lit up at the offer to go first. He absolutely wanted to try it first, especially if Ethan was going to be the one to trip up the charm.
He pointed his wand at the bottom corner of the door and spoke clearly. "Intrudus Concutio." Carefully, Mo traced up one side, across the top, and down the other until the entire door frame had been be-spelled. And now... well, there was only ONE way to see if it had worked, right?
"Give the door a go," he grinned and bounced a bit on his feet.

Back to the spell. Its seems that all you had to do was trace the outline of the door with your wand and cast the spell. Nigel would love to try this on his house when he gets back home. But it would be too time consuming. Since it is pretty big and he would have to do it all by himself.
"in-TROO-duss con-COO-shee-oh, Intrudus Concutio". Okay that was easy enough to pronounce and say. So...Who was going to cast the charm first. Nigel did not care either way. Nigel looked over at West and asked "You want to cast Intrudus Concutio first?".
Nigel was not to thrilled with hearing the alarm blasting in his ears. But this was interesting.
West was pretty keen about all this, he figured Aspen would be happy to hear he was learning something useful and all that, and probably she could help him master it even more so that was another good side to it.
"Intrudus Concutio." He repeated this too. A tracing thing was an easy enough wand movement that he didn't feel like he needed to practice that. "In-TROO-duss con-COO-shee-oh. Intrudus Concutio." Easy to say too.
Already he had more and more questions bubbling up in his brain but he figured trying it out first would be good.
"You can go first and I'll try go through after you cast it." He said to Nigel, stepping back politely for the 'claw. Intrudus Concutio.

But she had faith in her friend! And most importantly, they were going to have ice cream afterwards, so...it was all okay, it didn't matter if the door exploded or not, they could see the Healer and get ice cream if something happened! BEAM!
They should still do it just for fun.
"No, no, I will." The sooner, the better. And, Lotus Acacia Wisteria took one breath before grabbing the doorknob and twisting it to one side. Another breath and the door opened up and...guess who was on the other side?!
No, it wasn't Airey holding a bowl of ice cream, it was Lottie, unharmed, and most importantly: with a very alarming sound coming out of the door! "Hey, it worked!" Not that she had a single drop of DOUBT, you know?
"Now, get it to stop!" she said, hands on her ears, because the sound was beginning to get annoying.
Lottie could've 'Finite'd it, but it was Lex's charm, she should do that as well.
Yeah she saw the eyebrow being raised but at the moment she wouldn't focus on it too much because Lottie was going to try her door! Now there were three ways this could end: it could explode the moment Lottie touched it, it could get really loud, or nothing at all. Seeing as this was her best friend right here, the exploding option was definitely out. This was a class so something had to happen, that automatically excluded the whole 'nothing happening' option.
Oh! Look at that! The only thing left was for it to work perfectly! She could live with that!
And so she waited anxiously to see what would happen. The door was opened...there was no BOOM, Lottie was standing on the next side--Eeeeeeep, she was in one piece!!! AWESOME!!!
BEAM.
"It did!!!!" And now she was bouncing again. It WORKED! It wasn't a hex but she got it on the first try! Woot! Oh, but to end it now because she knew how the girl felt about noise. "Finite!"
Ah silence...sorta...there were still other alarms going off around them. "Okay, your turn, then I can walk through!!"

Alright. He did not care either way if he heard the alarm in his first. But casting the spell seemed simple enough. Nigel waited till West stepped out of the way. Then he started tracing the outline of their door using his wand. Step One complete.
"Intrudus Concutio"
Nothing blew up. So it seemed to work. Now onto the testing phase. "Now lets see if it worked, After You" Nigel said to West. He had confidence in his spell. But would not know for certain until West opened the door.

Loud? "Yeah... is it meant to be that loud?" Or was Jory just being powerful with his spell? Did this charm work like that? ... That... was something he'd have to ask Knox. Later. But for now, Jory was asking him a question. "Yeah... yeah, I just wasn't prepared for the alarm," he said, shrugging and smiling at the guy, "Are you okay?"
"Anytime!" he said, giving the guy a nod, "Erm... I'll just practice saying the incantation first, yeah?" Which meant that Jory can do whatever he wanted, really. Or... not. Jory probably wouldn't be allowed to hold up a firstie and start singing The Circle of Life at the top of his lungs in the middle of the classroom. The look on Knox's face if that happened...
... Moving on...

Sort of. And this was only practice, yeah? He could always try the charm again if it didn't go according to plan.
But then again... Jory had managed to do the spell in his first go! So, naturally, the fifth year felt as if he should be able to do the same as well. Nodnod. ... "In-TROO-duss... con-COO-shee-oh... InTROOduss... conCOOsheeoh... InTROOduss conCOOsheeoh... Intrudus Concutio... Intrudus Concutio!" There! Was he saying it properly? GRIN!
Now it was time to... perform the spell, yeah?
Taking a deep breath, the boy lifted his wand and shuffled a little closer to the door in front of him. "Intrudus Concutio!" he said with as much confidence as he could muster as he started tracing the outline of the door with his wand. Once he was done, he took a couple of steps back and turned to look at Jory. "Have at it, mate..."
It was sort of like all or nothing now. Sort of.
Jory nodded with enthusiastic agreement. He had found another ice cream fanatic! Sauce! "I prefer mine with loads of sauce!'' Yep! Sugar overload!
"I think it should be that loud,'' the Puffer replied, still staring at the door. He nodded. "I'm alright too. I mean, it's an alarm so we knew what would happen but man that was loud!''
Jory grinned and used the time as he waited for Alec to get a hang of the incantation to watch the others. Most were practicing the incantation too. Had he been the first to make the alarm go off? He shrugged and turned back to Alec, who was saying the incantation repeatedly and determination. "Go for it!'' Jory told him and watched as Alec got to work on the door.
And then was Jory's turn to try the door. He grabbed the knob and wrenched the door open. He was ready for the alarm but he still flinched at the earsplitting sound that went off. "That is loud!'' Jory exclaimed, and pointing his wand at the door. "Finite!''
The door was quite once more. "Good job, Alec!'' Jory told the younger dude. He had done well indeed, getting it on the first attempt. "High five!'' he said, raising his hand.

Granted, the noise was still ALL AROUND THEM. We're not sure how much we like you now, Ivy Knox. Not sure. But it was bearable, and it wasn't precisely oh-so-near her like it had been. So, she thanked Lex for ending the spell so quickly.
Really, thank you. ^^
So, focusing turned out to be slightly difficult for those who had excellent hearing. She wouldn't need to know this spell, you know? Lottie probably could hear a mouse walking by and WAKE UP. Soooo....
...but yeah.
Anyway. She locked the door again and practiced the wand movement on the door, now that it was safe to be pointing at it and drawing a frame around it. It was rather easy.
So, she was practicing the incantation again, before finally working on the spell. Juuuuuust practicing. "Intrudus Concutio, Intrudus Concutio, Intrudus Concutio," she kept on repeating, and trying to isolate all sounds.

"We should always put the charm on the locker room when we talk about strategy," Mo wagged his eyebrows at Ethan before his whole face lit up at the offer to go first. He absolutely wanted to try it first, especially if Ethan was going to be the one to trip up the charm.

"Give the door a go," he grinned and bounced a bit on his feet.
Deep in thought about just how useful this charm really could be, Ethan nodded distractedly at Mo's suggestion and watched him get to work, tracing his wand along the door frame. Mhmm.. exactly as his mental image had played out.. surely that meant it worked? He'd find out in a minute..
"Here goes nothing," he grinned back at the younger boy and faced the door. He stepped forward, placed his hand on the doorknob, and slowly turned it before pushing it open. The wail of the alarm sounded as he stepped through and the Prefect instinctively threw his hands up over his ears..
"WELL DONE," he called out to Mo over the din as he turned back around through the doorway and he gave him a sort of thumbs up with one of the hands still at his ear. And now the other boy could end the charm to save Ethan's ears and he could have a go at the spell himself..

Would you look at that. It did work. Nigel grinned in satisfaction, that it only took one try to do it. Not that he expected anything less. And that alarm was more annoying then Nigel thought. Better turn it off fast before he would want to tear that door down. "Sounds like a good idea. That alarm is annoying."Nigel pointed his wand at the door again and cast “Finite Incantatem”.
The alarm finally stopped and all you can hear now is other peoples alarms go off. Now it was Nigels turn it go through the magic door. Nigel stepped back allowing West to get ready to try this spell for himself.

Oops she had interrupted the learn-to-say-the-spell moment hadn't she. Eh - he could deal. So she opened her mouth to speak and stopped. "Okay I'll go first them" she beamed as she took out the wand and pointed it at the door.
"Intrudus Concutio" and traaaace the door. "Okay, Kaiden try and go through the door!" She beamed.
Kaiden nodded. It was better if she went. He could, you know see how it went. He watched as she did her thing. "So just walk through yeah?" he asked, putting his hand on the doorknob.
Twisting it, he pushed the door open and stepped through. As soon as his foot crossed the threshold, a loud alarm sound went off, causing him to jump. He hadn't expected it to be so loud. "Looks like it worked," He said over the noise. "Wanna shut it up?" Now please?

Things had happened. Lots of things had happened this lesson, the trouble was that Ascanius hadn't paid attention to a single lick of it. Ah well, it wasn't like anyone had noticed. He just let his eyes glaze over and he followed Professor Knox around with his eyes. Yeah, she was real fit, you know? Smirk.
'Course that did mean that he had missed a bunch of the LEARNING part of this lesson. Oh no. That was sarcasm.
Anyway, lucky he had relatively good listening skills, 'cause that meant he caught on quick. They were doing some spell in relation to the door. And so he'd just practice saying the spell until he figured out exactly WHAT they were doing.
Slowly he repeated over and over again, "Intrudus Concutio. Intrudus Concutio. Intrudus Concutio...Intrudus Concutio..." Sounded good.

... okay. Okay. Done.
Yes?
Cough. He looked at Nigel and straightened up. "Go on through."

First off was to practice the Intruder Charm. It's incantation was Intrudus Concutio.....the second part pretty much sounded like Crucio. "Intrudus Concutio....Intrudus Concutio..." She was saying this correctly, yes? Throwing a glance at her boyfriend and listening to how he said it told her that she was on the right track. Or...if it was wrong, she and Dylan were saying it wrong together. At least she wasn't the only one. Anyway, if it was wrong....they'd find out later when they cast the charm on the door.
"Intrudus Concutio....Intrudus Concutio....in-TROO-duss con-COO-shee-oh..." That was better? She thought it was.
"I'm ready..." She said, in respond to the Slytherin's nod. "Who will go first?"
Dylan nodded when she said she was ready and stepped forward, The door was of average size like any normal door would be. Nothing too imposing or whatever. "I'll cast first...and then you can step through, Finite, and cast it yourself...in which case I'll step through and finite yours." Deal?
Sounded legit to him.
Wand raised, he concentrated on what he needed to do...and the charm he was about to perform. An alarm...Something that would sound off when whoever wasn't supposed to stepped through this door...An alarm....alarm....alarm.....
"Intrudus Concutio!" He was tracing the frame of the door as he firmly spoke the spell...
Was Beezy Weezy ready to step on through? Dylan stepped back, eyeing the door with a serious look. Hopefully it had worked...because that'd mean success...and he liked success.

Sophie watched in amusement as Blue changed her whole facial expression as if she was actually creating something in her head that would excuse her breaking into someone's home or something.
OHWHOA it did work!! Lovely! "Thanks!" The badger grinned and also put her fingers in her ears to muffle the noise. Merlin, that was loud. And it had been only the Intruder Charm! If what people said about the Caterwauling Charm being louder were true... than oh my, that was to make anyone DEAF, that was for sure!
The brunette smiled as she watched Blue try the spell. She stepped forwards after the Ravenclaw was done and slooowly reached for the doorknob. Tuuun duuun....... duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!!!
And she opened the door! Sophie stoopd there with the door half-way opened and waited for the sound. Huh? Hadn't Blue's spell wor---ASDFGHJKMNBVG!!! The Hufflepuff jumped back as the alarm went off a few moments after she expected. "Whoa, that scared me!" She chuckled at Blue as she held her chest with her free hand and held her wand and the door with her right one.
"Finite!" She cast and got ready to go again. "Intrudus Concutio!" Sophie repeated, following the door frame with the tip of her wand. She wondered if they could change the type of sound of the alarm. Maybe it was just a general Muggle Burglar Alarm sound, but... if she concentrated really hard on another sound... just as loud as an actual burglar alarm... would it work??
Hm... she would have to test it on her next try! Heh!
Smiiiiirk.
Her alarm had scared Sophie. Scared her. Perfect. That meant she was set when she was a legal adult noooo intruders were going to be stealing from her house. Even Robin Hood-esque thieves who were stealing to provide for their younger siblings. HA.
Okay. She braced herself and reached out really far and twisted the knob. She didn’t want a repeat of the last two times the alarm went off when she’d nearly jumped out of her skin. No-sir-ee. This ‘Claw was FEARLESS. With the exception of draconophobia.
Dragons are a legit fear though.
And then the wail of the alarm. It sounded kinda off though. The pitch was a little screechier. Blue gave Sophie LOOKS. What the doxy egg did you DO? “Finite Incantatem,” The alarm was cut off and Blue beamed. She shut one eye and very careful ran her wand over the outline of the door again.
“Intrudus Concutio.”

"Finite Incantatem." She said in a reminder as she gave him a look. Finite and Finite Incantatem were very different. Then she nodded, took a small step back to give him space to cast the charm on the door while she watched, her birch wand clutched tightly in hand.
No such thing as beams or any visible indicator that the charm was being traced 'round the door frame, it seems.
When Dylan gave way, the brunette went on ahead and approached the door. "Okay...here it goes..." In the next moment, her hand was on the knob, turning it and then she pulled the door open and stepped in through. Almost at once, a shrill sound went off that made her quickly covered her ears with her hands. Beezus whirled back, grimacing somewhat at the noise. "It's working." ...And loud.

Okay, she’d been wrong. Kendall really hadn’t been too bothered by that, especially since she honestly hadn’t thought that they’d have been learning something as simple as Alohomora and Colloportus, even if there were little firsties in the lesson. That hadn’t stopped any of the other professors from teaching more complicated spells than this, and at least she hadn’t had the problem of still not having a partner. Aquila hadn’t acted anything but excited, and therefore she was thinking positive. A fairly easy spell, at least regarding wand movements, and a willing partner. She couldn’t ask for much more than that, other than maybe an incantation that wasn’t so dependent on pronunciation. She could almost guarantee that her accent was going to come back and cause problems, although she could handle that as long as it didn’t make other things go wonky as well. She didn’t feel like explaining why her hair turned black, so she was just going to have to doubly focus.
At least they had practice time, and she’d sent her partner a grin. They were totally ready for practice, if not actually casting it yet. At least, that was what she’d thought. “Ready, Aquila?,” she asked, before glancing over to double-check on the incantation. Between seeing it written and listening to everyone around them, they shouldn’t forget. “In-tru-dus Con-cu-tio,” she said slowly, sounding it out before she tried to say it any quicker. As it was, it sounded even weirder all dragged out, so after a moment she repeated herself, saying it quicker. “Intrudus Concutio.” Now that that was settled, she quietly traced her wand around the doorframe without speaking. She didn’t want to accidentally cast the charm before Aquila got to practice.

"Cool business of course." she said. What a question. Sarah was relieved that that uncynical snakes did resist. This one was so nice and happy. "Can I go first?" she asked. After all ladies first!
"Intrudus Concutio" she said as she outlined the door with her wand. Sarah did not know if it owuld work so she decided to do it again.
"Intrudus Concutio" another outline. This spell was usefull, she should use it on her diary, she always lost the key otherwise. She wondered if it would work though.
"Do you want to test it?" she asked the Prefect. Her charm work was never that bad, so it should work. The question was rather rhetorical, yet it was nice to ask!
Time to join wand work and incantations. And hoooopefully no one will be harmed. Right, Ivy Knox? Because she wouldn't want any student injured. Ever. EVER.
Wand pointing at the door, she was focusing, really focusing, and while she drew the frame on the door she said the magic words (no, not '*bats eyelashes*'), "Intrudus Concutio," and then again in a mere whisper, as her eyes traveled along with her wand and made a perfect rectangular-shaped basic-burglar-alarm. Because that's what it was. Basically.
"Done! You can go ahead, Lex," she said, eyeing her friend from the side. She should come and join Lottie. Nothing would happen to her. Smirk.
No, seriously, nothing would. The alarm might go off, and Lottie will 'Finite' it real quick.

OH! She could try it now? OKAY!!!!
Alexa grabbed the doorknob and yanked it open. That was the only way to open a door when you were technically breaking in. Didn't you know? She pulled hard but the moment it swung open the noise it produced was enough to have her jump. In all her excitement of pretending to break in, she'd forgotten it was meant to do that.
Yikes.
"GREAT WORK!!!" She yelled over the sound of the siren noise thingy. Of course it was, it was Lottie. Now she would wait for the girl to end it. This noise must have been killing her.

Okay, now that they had all spoken... "You all gave excellent answers. To summarize, we can conclude that the Intruder Charm is most used in households or smaller places and are, as Mr. Odessa said, more discreet. Caterwauling Charms are mostly used in larger areas, such as Hogsmeade in past times, and are much louder and disruptive than the Intruder Charm. Like Mr. Branxton said, the Caterwauling Charm will tell everyone when someone has entered the area."
Once that was clarified, Ivy turned back to the board and wrote the incantation for the Intruder Charm on the board:
Intrudus Concutio in-TROO-duss con-COO-shee-oh
"To successfully cast an Intruder Charm, you must say the incantation while tracing the area you wish to be covered by this charm. In this case, you will be pointing and tracing your wand around the door frame in front of you. You could do the same with a window or any other way of entrance. Not only does the Intruder Charm detect when someone enters by door or window, it can also detect if they enter a room by other means, such as apparition, portkeys, floo, etcetera. If you wanted to cover a whole room or house with this spell, to detect when someone enters by other magical means, you would verbally repeat the incantation whilst tracing your wand around the perimeter of the room, or the house." Pretty handy, she thought.
"Today you will be learning how to cast the Intruder Charm on one of the doors in this room. No, they don't lead anywhere. They are simply, empty doors. If you don't have a partner, find one now. You and your partner will practice together the incantation and then one of you will cast the Intruder Charm on the door. Once you feel it is sufficient, your partner will walk through the door, and if the alarm goes off, you will have succeeded. You will then remove the charm with Finite Incantatem and your partner will repeat those steps and you will walk through their charmed door. Understood?" Ivy looked around at her students to make sure they understood her directions, or if they had questions.
"Get to work then!"
Kace was excited to work on the charm. Kace told Marigold, "I will go first." he beamed. He did not see this charm being too hard. All he had to do was trace the door and say the incantation. But first he was going to mutter under his breath the incantation.
He got the hang of it and then he decided to trace the door. Then he took a deep breath and said the incantation while tracing the door..."Intrudus Concutio!" and then he felt the spell work. Kace turned to Marigold.
"Do you wanna test it out?" he asked her with a smile.

Geez, Lex, go easy on the door!
She was playing her part, though, and very well, may we add. In reality, though, an intruder would try be as quiet as Lottie had been, YOU KNOWW? Unless they were running away, in which case they would've yanked the door open or whatever.
Or...when they were coming in, because they were super excited to get ice cream or something of the like.
ALARM STARTED! Well, of course it would. Lottie beamed and instantly pointed her wand at the door, "Finite!" SIGH. Peace, sort of. Lex yelling hadn't helped. "Thank you!" Now, class was done, yeah? They could go and get some ice cream? Okay! "Great performance, by the way," she added, laughing lightly.
That was better. And now it was his turn? West gave Nigel a distracted smile and then eyed the door. He shut it and then stood back eyeing the door frame. Okay. He could do this. Wand at the ready he said the incantation, "Intrudus Concutio!" and began tracing the door frame, concentrating hard.
... okay. Okay. Done.
Yes?
Cough. He looked at Nigel and straightened up. "Go on through."
Nigel should have at least closed the door for West to try the spell. But it's no good crying over spilt potion. He watched as West traced the door and then cast the spell in one try also.
Once West said he was finished. Nigel walked up to the door. Grabbed the door knob and walked on through.
Merlin the alarm is annoying. Nigel walked in a circle and the alarm still sounded the same.. Nigel smirk then said. "Well it looks like it worked. Can you turn it off now?
Now what were they suppose to do?

Theo was still making sure the spell was 100% practiced in his head before he even attempted to match it against a wand movement. And besides, he still needed a partner. But thankfully, he didn't need to go and look around himself, because Penelope needed one, too. Awesome... he hadn't really spoken to her since last term. "Oh, yeah I do. Wanna be mine?" He said, ALMOST shyly.
Psshhht, he didn't know why, though. Theo was never shy around girls. Psssssshhhhhtttt.
"I think I have the incantation down." He had each syllabal down at least, as for putting all the words together, hmmm perhaps. After going through it in his head a few more times, Theo cleared his throat and tried it out loud. "Intrudus..." Paaaause...
It's gone.
"Concutus." Theo thought that it was right, hmm. He grabbed his wand from the desk and looked the door up and down.

Oh good, he was accepting. She nodded. "Sure." So now they were partners. At least they had that down.
Now to just get the spell to work right. Hopefully it would cooperate and stuff. Penelope didn't want to be stuck failing, especially if Theo happened to get it to work just fine.
...Although that probably wouldn't happen if the incantation wasn't right.
"It's Concutio, I think," she pointed out. "Intrudus Concutio." She said them together mostly for her benefit to make sure it was right. After repeating it over and over and over, it kinda developed a flow in her head, so Intrudus Concutus didn't sound right to her. But...she'd been wrong many times before, so...
"I'll try it out first." Also to make sure. Any number of things could go wrong if she was wrong, and even if she was right, she wasn't guaranteed to get the spell to work first time trying it out, but might as well give it a shot. Lots of people were already practicing on the actual door anyway, so they could start that part too.
"Intrudus Concutio," she said slowly, guiding her wand over the outline of the door until she had gone over the whole thing. Then she stepped to the side. "Wonder if it worked..." Was having someone go through the only way to tell?

"Nice job!" she said, smiling, but also trying to cover her ears. Kace could stop the noise now she hoped.
