When you walk into the Charms classroom, you will find it much like the rest of the castle; dirty, dusty, shabby. You will find dust bunnies, spiderwebs, and maybe even some webs with inhabitants in them. The grimy desks are in 6 straight rows, divided into two columns, facing the front of the room. The windows are closed, but the light shines through the dirty, spotted glass.
Professor Knox is standing in front of her clean desk, watching the students file into the classroom. A closed box sits on the floor. Next to the professor is the chalkboard that says, in big, clean letters:
"Sit down and be quiet."

Well this was an awfully...cheerful room. With a cheerful professor.

Merlin, this made Penelope dread coming to this class even more, but she was here now, and she wasn't backing out. Maybe they were learning some cleaning charms today or something and that was why the room was so dirty. She hoped so. Because otherwise she thought it made the kinda lazy, and a lazy professor was not something she cared for...unless it meant no homework. Then please feel free to be as lazy as you like, professor. Mhm.
"Hello, Professor," she greeted the woman simply, before looking for an empty seat to take.

This place was a mess. Dusty....dirty. It made the Ravenclaw's nose wrinkle as she hesitantly stepped inside the classroom. This was really disappointing. She wasn't sure if she was disappointed more on the current situation of the classroom or with the new Professor for not even bothering to fix things up even for just a bit considering she was a Charms Professor and a woman. Either way, she was disappointed.
But she still greeted the woman, "Hello, Professor Knox." .."Sit down and be quiet." Then she went off and proceeded to take a seat but not before she had wiped dust off the chair with a tissue. She decided not to it with magic considering they still didn't know how the new Professor's mind worked - nope, she didn't really pay attention to those BoG debates to know - and she didn't want to get into trouble.

Dylan.....was super excited about Charms for TWO reasons...The first being that there was a new professor (nothing against Bellaire, of course) and the other being the new Professor herself. Professor Knox was kinda hot. He just wanted to put that out there.
Walking into the classroom, the first thing the Slytherin noticed was the filthy desks. CRINGING HAPPENING HERE! Merlin, he did NOT like messes. NO....It was effecting his can again...
BEFORE taking a seat, he withdrew his wand...kinda on the down low...and pointed it at his desk. Scourgify! The spell was done as a nonverbal because it was almost second nature....AND it complied with the rules of "Sit down and be quiet!" Well, the 'Be quiet' part, anyway...
It hadn't made the desk exceptionally clean...but at least it had gotten SOME of the dirt and grime off. Dylan carefully took a seat.
Also, looking around...Were they allowed to greet the Professor? That WAS talking....Instead of actually opening his mouth, he offered a head!nod in greeting.

Raven hoped she wasn't late to class just because she had taken a small detour to take some ice cream from the kitchen! She knew she really shouldn't have, but she was just hungry. Now she ran to the classroom (with ice cream still her face)
PHEW! Thankfully she wasn't late, other students were still filing in. Right now she didn't really pay much heed to the dirty looking classroom, she was just relieved at not being late. "Morning"

It wasn't as big of an issue for Alice as it was for everyone else about the dirtiness and grime around the classroom. After mouthing a hello to the professor- because she was supposed to be quiet and things, but it felt rude to just ignore her completely- she found a seat and gingerly slipped into it, not bothering to clean it first. Because, remember, she and Dora and the Headmistress had discussed this. She wasn't paying AND playing maid.
Cleaning was being left to the Puffers.
Like, she could see the Head Girl cleaning right now out of the corner of her eye.

Susan entered Charms classroom in a pretty good mood. The sun was shining outside and that always made her smile. When Sue looked around she noticed that the entire classroom was pretty filthy. Well except for the professors desk. Hmm...maybe they would be learning something to do with cleaning. It would be awesome to use magic when helping cleaning the castle and make it a lot faster. Susan read the bored and frowned, she wouldn't be asking the professor how she was doing today. Sue found a seat and waited for class to begin.

Sit down and be quiet? West had no problems with that. He also didn't bother cleaning his desk since that wasn't on the board. He also didn't say hello to the professor since 'be quiet' was up there and he took it literally. He did nod politely before sitting down at his desk...
... probably they'd DO cleaning spells, right? He'd wait and see.

Sky stepped into the room.......and instantly sneezed. Merr-lin. The professor hadn't even bothered to clean the room before holding class in it. Gross.

Yep, dust. She picked a seat and before sitting down, took off her outer robes and used them to give her seat and the desk a good rubdown. Obeying and getting her desk clean, see? Once she was done, she hurried back to the door and tossed her outer robe into the hallway. Because there was no way she was putting it back on. Nope.
Her cleaning done, Sky took her seat, placing her bag on the floor besides her feet. Also not saying anything to the professor, but giving a greeting nod.

Not long, apparently. Ivy watched this girl from the moment she walked in to the moment she got to her desk. And she continued to watch as the girl looked at her with several different emotions. And Ivy did not care. "Honestly," she repeated flatly. "Sit down."

The boy walked over towards the closest desk and sat down carefully. He reached over a hand brushed off the dust bunny that had been lingering on his desk. Could they Vacavus up the whole classroom? Please?
Well, this one was full of energy, wasn't he? Hufflepuff, of course. Weird ones, they were. "It was lovely, thank you." He got a nod and she watched him carefully as he dusted off his desk. Fine.

Just a short greeting knowing the woman didn't seem to be one for small talk, Minerva turned to find her seat. Seeing not to many were there yet she smiled at them and found her seat in the front corner. Sitting down she opened her bag and pulled out her parchment and quill to get ready for notes taking.
Ah, this one was familiar. And not a pain in the rear (yet), so she got the tiniest of smiles in response. "Minerva," she greeted with a nod. And she came prepared. Excellent.

She'd remember the name eventually, just not now because DUST EVERYWHERE. But back to what the girl was doing and that was talking to the Professor...maybe not in the correct way really. "Um..." She bit her lip wondering if she felt like commenting or not. Maybe not this teacher was new. But next lesson she would, if it was like this of course. So instead she gave her fellow red head a smile, because like red head code and then went to her seat.
Ahh. A plan popped in her brain, thus why she took her wand out. Bye, bye dirt and dust. "Scourgify." She said quietly and pointed at the desk...
Was this girl... pouting at her? Ivy raised an eyebrow at the redhead as she sneezed and waited for her to take a seat. But then she did exactly what Ivy expected and secretly hoped a few students to do.
As soon as the word 'scourgify' left the girls' mouth, the dust and dirt from the desk exploded up into a cloud RIGHT in her face. Mmmmmm, dirt. Yum. Should have read the board, mm?

But...how was she supposed to compliment the professor's shoes? And she didn't FEEL like being QUIET today. SHE WANTED TO TALK AND SING. Not sing-sing, but maybe HUM.
Merlin, this one had more energy than the Hufflepuff. Ivy had her doubts about this one. "Good day," she returned, watching her carefully. And she watched as the girl cleaned her desk, too. Sigh.
As soon as the girl sat down, she suffered the same fate as the Hufflepuff. The dirt and dust from the desk exploded up into the the girl's face, leaving it all dirty. Ivy just sighed and shook her head. Shooould have read the board more carefully.

She watched the girl as she had given Nicola a smile, to which Nicola paused briefly before returning a bit of a warm smile to her. Her eyes narrowed a bit as she continued to watch the girl seem to do something. She then raised an eyebrow when she saw the older girl take her wand out and mutter something..then it hit her!
BRILLIANT! UTTERLY BRILLIANT!
Nicola was very tempted to do this also, but she didn't know if she'd get in trouble for it. But she did know that she didn't want to sit in this dirty grime. So within a matter of seconds Nicola had repeated the same thing the fellow redhead did, just like the redhead did what Nicola did with their gargoyles in Transfiguration. And before she knew it, her desk was no longer grimly grotesque, and she was finally sitting down crossing her legs sitting looking very proper. Her eyes traveled over to the redhead again briefly before she began to play with her hair.
Now to wait for class to begin..
Ivy's eyes returned to this one again as she seemed to realize the brilliant idea. Ivy just waited silently. After the redhead Ravenclaw cleaned off her desk with magic, the dust and dirt from the desk exploded up into the girls' face, just as it had the others. And Ivy just watched... just as he had with the others.

Ivy's attention went back to the door as another male walked in and right up to her. She didn't like his smirk or his smile or his voice or his attitude, nor was she the least bit flattered that he thought she looked 'lovely in blue'. It was turquoise, anyway. Ivy blinked once at the boy and watched him for a few seconds...

Professor Bellaire would have had this place all dolled up before they got here. Guess you couldn't expect much from someone who wand-handled kneazles.

She plopped down in her seat. Something else that was weird, usually they had to wait to be told to do so. Heheheehehe and so she was sitting in Charms class. Hahaha! It wasn't supposed to be funny and she couldn't half explain why she was their just giggling to herself perhaps it was the sugar? but it was just happening. "Helloooooo Professor."Giggle.
Ivy's attention returned to the door when she heard someone humming. That's when she saw the girl whose kneazle she'd almost lost her new pair of shoes to. Alexa Cambrige. She had already decided she didn't like this girl, so she really didn't mind when the Gryffindor 'scourgify'ed her desk and the dust and dirt exploded back into her face. Served her right.
"Hello to you, too, Miss Cambrige." Should have read the board, mhm.

That already told him that this lesson wasn't going to be as fun as he was hoping. His shoulders slumped as he turned and made his way to an empty seat. He found one behind his fellow housemate Alexa and beside a first year Hufflepuff who seemed less than thrilled with the state of the furniture.
It was pretty gross but since he was determined that he was not cleaning anything then he was just gonna have to deal with it.
Ivy saw that grin fade so quickly. It was almost amusing how these kids were so dismayed buy some dust. Hah. "Good afternoon," she responded, watching as he sat next to Cambrige. She would have to keep an eye on him.

She definitely approved of him.

Yep, dust. She picked a seat and before sitting down, took off her outer robes and used them to give her seat and the desk a good rubdown. Obeying and getting her desk clean, see? Once she was done, she hurried back to the door and tossed her outer robe into the hallway. Because there was no way she was putting it back on. Nope.

With that, Ivy walked back up the isle to the front of the class and stood in front of the chalkboard and faced her class. "For those of you who are too ignorant to have noticed, my name is Professor Ivy Knox. I was recently elected to work on the Board of Governor's and I am now temporarily helping out your Headmistress in filling the Charms position. And for those of you wondering, yes, I am qualified to teach." Unlike some professors here, in her own, personal opinion, but she wasn't going to get into that.
"Now, let us begin. As many of you noticed, and tried to fix, this classroom is a disaster. No, I did not forget to clean, nor was I too lazy to. Today we will be talking and learning about Scouring Charms, or Cleaning Charms." As soon as she said it, Ivy flicked her wand towards the board and the chalk immediately wrote down the phrase. "Now, tell me what kind of spells you might use to clean up or tidy this room or anywhere around the castle. Give me examples. We'll be focusing on cleaning today, but some of you think outside of the box here, just for the time being." Ivy looked around and waited for answers.

The professor woman said she wasn't lazy and Amara just had to disagree hadn't she? Well the woman was going to make them all use their spell casting talent..ahem..ability to clean up her classroom.
There were the usual spells..the one she heard recently from the hanging out guy. HEH. She raised her hand high. "There's Scourgify... we use it often..basic" Yeah, her mother did. And no, she did not. "Then, there is....uhm..." she paused. She wasn't very good at remembering funny names. YES, I can remember Knocks. "...Tergeo..?" she said, rather uncertain. Terge-aw? Terrabooo? NO NO. It was alright. "Yeah, tergeo..that one cleans up just anything" It did. Memories of Katya being victim to the spell flashed before her. Funny those, they always made her laugh.
But no laughing in this class. There was a special class for that in Hogwarts. Any guesses? Huh? "Well, we could always use Professor Airey's Vacavus one!" Now THAT was an exciting one. TAP. TAP and SWIIISH. Everything was sucked by the black hole. "It's a very useful one.." Maybe she didn't know.

Laura looked at the Professor and raised her hand. "Well Professor we could always use wingardium leviosa." Laura was sure that it would help with picking rubbish off the floor, she had thought of another spell as well but she wasn't sure the Professor would have like her saying it, so in the end she had chose this one. "We can put rubbish in the bin then."
"Of course we are." Michael muttered under his breath. Every other class had something to do with cleaning why should Charms be any different?
He raised his hand in the air and had to refrain from rolling his eyes when he gave his answer. "Tergeo." Sigh. "Why can't we just hire new house elves?"
His mother had a house elf that she rarely used. Why couldn't he just bring him to school and the elf could do all his cleaning for him.

Ooh, this was right up Theo's street. He raised his hand eagerly, "I've used Scourgify before." Actually, he used it quite a lot. That would obviously be one his main spells on the learning agenda. The Slytherin dropped his hands down to his lap, because he refused to touch that dirty desk.
He saw a few of the dust explosions that were happening around him, and he sat backwards immediately, bracing himself. That was kinda uncalled for.

Forrest stared in shock at the dirt exploding in people's faces. It was a hard call between laughing and sympathy, but a suppressed giggle left his mouth in the end, only for him to hear. The woman was scary, but he liked him somehow.
And the lesson started... he wanted to GROAN at 'cleaning' spells. He thought he'd be learning magic in here, not bloody house-work. Looking out of the window for a moment to think, he raised his hand.
"House elves' cleaning spells--" which he didn't know any, because he had YET to see one. Hopefully, professor wouldn't notice his incomplete sentence.
While the blonde had noticed how dirty the entire classroom was, and was fighting back the sneezes that were threatening to escape her she leaned her head to the side.

Well... Kahlan had absolutely no clue about any cleaning charms because at home she didn'tneed them! Because her family could actually afford house elves. However, thankfully the Slytherin had gone to Astronomy and currently that was the only spell that came to mind that could count as a cleaning charm, after all she had spent hours running around vacuuming up the dust and any other things around the castle.
"Well... Professor Airey taught us a spell in astronomy... um... vacavus" she finally managed to remember, reminiscing on how she'd had to give up Steve, and after all their hard work.
Cleaning charms, right... Derry had thought she was quite good at those, she knew scourgify, and now she knew vacavus... but people had said these already. She brushed a bit of dust out of the way and put her parchment down, scribbling her name at the top and starting to take notes. Oh! "Would the Skurge charm work..? For other things than ectoplasm I mean..." No harm in wondering, right?

As the dust basically exploded in his face, Dylan eyed the Professor. EYED HER. She was gorgeous, of course...but obviously cray. And that trick was rather lame, he was convinced. It was mostly lame because of all the dust now in his hair....

Alexa was so fixated with what just happened that she nearly missed the woman's question. Even after she heard it she was still imagining the faint BOOM. Slowly her hand rose but she wasn't all that much paying attention anymore, naaaah, something else would blow up soon, she was hoping for it. "I know this isn't a cleaning spell Professor but could Aguamenti be considered. It'd be useful for getting muddy things washed off if you use it right or for something as simple as filling a basin so you can get stuff washed in it." Also, what else was rigged. She HAD to know.

As the dust began blowing back in people's faces, Sky just stared at the professor. Not a derpy stare, more of an 'I've got your number' stare. She had, of course, heard from her aunt what a piece of work this Knox woman was and she was currently in the process of proving her right. Not that she had doubted Aunt Roxi one bit.
As the temporary professor told her to put her robe back on or leave, Sky just sat there and quirked up a brow. Nope, not putting the robe back on, nor was she leaving. Miss Ivy Knox was just going to have to suck it up. Though she did offer up a suggestion. "Wouldn't it be easier to learn the spells if we're not all dust covered? Oh, and Scourgify is one." There, couldn't get her for not paying attention, because she'd just proved she was.

Minerva sat and waited for class to begin. She listened as the professor began and watched as she walked about the room. So they would be doing cleaning charms today, those didn't seem to difficult and they had been doing most of them around the castle already.
As she listened to all the spells, one came to her. It wasn't completely a cleaning spell, but it could help a place look brighter or better. Putting her hand up and waiting her turn, "Professor, you could use Colovaria, to help brighten walls, if they look like they need a fresh coat of paint, but you don't have any paint." It wasn't exactly a cleaning charm, but it was a charm that made something look better in a room that needed it. So it could go along with cleaning. Well Minerva felt so anyway.

Wait....the woman actually knew her? Blink. Blink. Maybe she wasn't as bad as Beezus thought she was. Meh. It was too early to tell.
One thing the Ravenclaw was certain about though was that Professor Knox had rules....silent rules that ought to govern their lessons. She could see that now and she actually wanted to applaud herself for not using magic when she cleaned off her chair or she would have had a cloud of dust on her face by now. Her poor boyfriend.... But anyway, it wasn't detrimental or anything so......back to listening to Professor Knox.
All the dust, litter....everything had a purpose and that was because they were learning Cleaning Charms. Perfect. That was extra help right now since their house elves had left them. Hand up at that question. "How about Impervius, Professor? It prevents a substance from affecting another. Therefore, we can assume that it can make, say, our desks repel dust."
