| | Charms I When you walk into the Charms classroom, you will find it much like the rest of the castle; dirty, dusty, shabby. You will find dust bunnies, spiderwebs, and maybe even some webs with inhabitants in them. The grimy desks are in 6 straight rows, divided into two columns, facing the front of the room. The windows are closed, but the light shines through the dirty, spotted glass. Professor Knox is standing in front of her clean desk, watching the students file into the classroom. A closed box sits on the floor. Next to the professor is the chalkboard that says, in big, clean letters: "Sit down and be quiet." OOC: Class has now started! Please do not post your character arriving late, just pretend they've been in class the whole time! Please read the rules before posting. We'll know if you didn't. Class Progression:
1. Start of class / exploding dust / first question
2. Answers / Scourgify Review / New Charm: Poliotus / Activity
3. New Charm: Vitrumonia / Activity #2 This class will end on Monday, May 27th at 6 AM GMT. |

Mmk, was anyone else confused? Because, yeah, TECHNICALLY Ascanius wasn't lost. Pfft, no way. He was way too awesome to be lost or confused, but he was definitely a little, ahem, off-course. They were all talking in absolutes and stuff that they all seemed to already now. Cough. So maybe he DIDN'T know, whatever.
He looked around the room and saw that everyone kind of knew what was going on. Well la de da for all of them. Jeez.
So he went about doing what he knew first, he stood up to point at the floor. Now what? He was horribly, horribly lost.
Oh right, he'd say the spell like the rest of them were until he felt comfortable. "Vitrumonia." Ahem, ahem. "Vitrumonia, Vitrumonia." Good?

| post 7 HOLISTIC ACTRESS {X O} EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED Mika glanced at the tables and the room that was now mainly clean. Except for a few select places. Positioning and pointing her wand she tried to find the best place to clean. There was one desk that looked quite gross still.
She tried to cast scourgify non-verbally. Waiting…she waited, and waited, and nothing had happened. She needed to practice it some more. Pointing her wand again she tried. “Scourgify,” she thought at the desk, and it happened the desk was clean and the girl was jumping up and down clapping at herself.
“That is wicked!” She squeaked, before pointing her wand and making an S movement with it. “Poliotus” she then walked over to the window and glanced at the dirtiest one she could find.
Making a line with her and in the air. “Vitrumonia” she murmured at the glass, and BAM. It was clean, shining even. The room was so much brighter and she could see the little spider near her crawling on its web. She didn’t like that. Nope, not one bit. “Deletrius” the spider and web it was attached to disappeared with a puff of smoke. “Scourgify” she cast non-verbally once more and the spot the web had connected to, was suddenly sparkling and clean. Pointing her wand at the window once more she tried to cast another spell and hoped it worked. “Impervious” the window if this worked was clean and the inside would never get wet looking again. That was good. Because that reduced its chance of getting super gross and dirty looking.

Alice felt like she was being watched and like the professor would notice, so she didn't rub the window with her sleeve and instead tried for bettering the line-y-ness of her movement, and also the Mo-ness of her incantation. "Vee-truh-MOH-nee-uh." Linelineline. "Vitrumonia. Vitrumonia. Vee-truh-MOH-nee-uh." Less Mo, okay? She carefully extended her wand again, controlling how much emphasis she put on the spell and moving her wand in the line-y-est line possible. "Vitrumonia."
Did that look clean?
She thought so.
Fistpump.

| Post #3 urine trouble | Pat's Strong Confident Other Half | Pees Like a Champion Unicorn Racehorse Try again? Yeah?
Except... was this really a matter of trying again or was it more a matter of... completing the task properly? By casting the spell again?
And was it a matter of confidence? Because sometimes, his spells didn't work the first time -- or in this case, the second time -- round because of a lack of confidence. Sometimes. Or maybe this particular pane of glass was just grimier than usual? ... How did this classroom get so grimy in the first place? By magic? Because this didn't really look natural. Not really.
Alec looked at the glass and took a deep breath. He wasn't scared... and he really had no reason to be. Even if the Professor didn't really look like the kind of person who'd accept hugs. ... Deep... breaths... Vee-truh-MOH-nee-uh... "Vitrumonia!" he said, drawing a line over the particular window again. Please work? Please please please...
YES. It was shiny! GRIN.

With hands on her hips, she squinted her eyes at the window, scowling a TINY bit. The window STILL looked all smudgy. WHY? Huh? She'd done the spell correctly. She knows she did.
Peyton decided to open the window, and as she thought, there was the problem. On the other side of the window it was all fogged up with grime. That had to GO, even if it wouldn't last because of the weather, but it'd still make it less dirty. And the less grime accumulated, the better. With another wave of her wand, she said the incantation: "Vitrumonia!"
This time there was no smudge left on the glass. Closing the window Peyton beamed at the outside world.
Yaaaaaay! :3

Sooooo. What was next? That...P-word charm, yea? The one that polished...Merlin, he'd JUST performed the thing and it had already flushed from his mind...
Dylan needed more sleep. That's all there was to it.
Wait. Poliotus! That was it.
Rubbing his face some, he stepped over to some unoccupied desks and got his clean on. Remembering the motion much easier than he had the incantation itself, the Captain focused. FOCUSED...SO. MUCH. FOCUSING. GOING. ON...And then he was tracing the 'S' shape, in a mimic to what Professor Knox had done..."Poliotus!" The incantation left his lips and magic surged. SURGED...and then the desk was gleaming. It gleamed like it was BLING'D out with diamonds and other various gems.
Brows for YOU, you attractive desk.
Dylan didn't stop with just that one, though...He carried on a bit, hitting a few other unoccupied desks that no one had touched yet. With more 'S' shaped motions and forceful "Poliotus!" said, some of them looked brand new. See? Anyone would want to sit at those desks now...They were just straight up beautiful.
Yep, excuse him everyone while he stopped to pat himself on the back. That was some great wand-work, Captain. Good for you, Captain...
Hmmm. What could he do neeeeext....?

Professor Knox had also mentioned that they could use some optional Charms, right? Ones that they have learned before. Beezus really thought that mostly older students such as herself would be the only ones able to cast it but in her utmost surprise, there were a whole lot others! They sure did their homework over the summer, that was for sure.
And that was a good thing. Yep, perfect.
Anyhow, the part of the floor she was standing on was VERY filthy. Ew. What was that....like blood that had on the cement or something. Merlin, the loss of house elves wasn't a joke. But there wasn't much they can do about it except to try and fill in the responsibilities they had abandoned. So, Beezus crouched down and ran her wand over the grime on the floor. "Tergeo. Tergeo. Tergeo." Yep, it really looked like blood that had dried off. From the animals, perhaps? She saw spiders on Ella and Mo earlier so maybe. Why though? The spiders were dying because the place was so dirty? Well.....too much of everything can kill after all.

Would it peeve Professor Knox if she used Poliotus on the board? Peyton stood in front of it, just staring. Hmm, better double think that one, Baltazar. Deciding to move to clean something else, she walked over to a shelf. That would do.
The wood seemed cloudy with dust. Wand still in her hand, Peyton waved a slow S in front of it and said, "Poliotus." Polished, polished the wood was now.
Peyton ran her finger over it to test her charms ability - which she didn't doubt - and smiled in a celebratory way at her success.

Ethan had grown very distracted with the thought of practicing the non-verbal spell on his mind. He wandered the classroom in search of something else to clean, having little luck with all the other students doing such a great job of making the place tidy again. The walls were clean, the windows were clean, the floors..
He looked down at the floor, his eyes wandering to his shoes, and he remembered his earlier thought about wanting to polish them. That wouldn't hurt, right? He would be practicing the spell after all, and he was doing plenty of cleaning around the room besides. He swished his wand in an S shape towards his shoes and commanded, "Poliotus!" Much better, he thought with a grin as his shoes were instantly shinier.
And now to work on the rest of the room. He wandered near the doorway, his eyes cast downward. There were a few dust bunnies on the floor behind the door. Pulling his wand he cast, "Deletrius!" The dust bunnies turned to a very fine, almost imperceptible dust. And he sucked that up with a "Tergeo!" Hmm, could he try a non-verbal there too? It wasn't really that dirty right in that spot anymore, but he supposed he could practice it just to be sure. He pointed his wand and concentrated on Scourgify in his mind. It seemed cleaner there.. maybe he was getting better, but that remained to be seen. He needed to try it on something dirtier.

Elise really didn't like cleaning but what could she do when all the house elves had resigned? They had to clean and do everything themselves, like at home but much bigger. If she'd ever taken the house elves for granted, this was a huge apology for them. Y'know, if they could hear her brainwaves thanking them for being so amazing and not complaining about the work they did so well.
Anyway, she'd probably start with Scourgify, since that's what she was best at. Five whole terms and a bit more of Potions lessons with Lafay did that to a person, making the two charms she used the most Scourgify and Incendio. Maybe even Aguamenti, but generally the other two. So wand at the ready, she figured that it was probably time to start the non-verbals.
Channeling the magic the way she generally would, she pointed at her table and used her mind to blast the incantation and not her mouth. Feeling a blast of something leave her wand, she opened the eyes she didn't even realize she was closing to look at it. The table was... significantly cleaner, but not as clean as she would have it if she had used the verbal charm.
"Scourgify," she muttered again, just for good measure. You could never be too clean. Beaming as the desk looked all pretty and dustless, she checked the sheet of parchment for the next charm.

Stepping over to the wall now, Sky took aim and nonverbally Scourgify-ed it. Once it was dust free, she moved her wand in the 'S' movement. "Poliotus." There, polished. And now that she was done with the amount that she was supposed to clean, she performed a perfect wall slide to the floor and stayed there. Yep, no more cleaning for her.

Aha! And her hunch about the spiders were correct for when she moved a little bit towards the left corner, the brunette saw three DEAD spiders. "Ohmygodric." Good thing they weren't tarantulas or her eyes would've started watering. She'd think it was either Matilda or Charlotte, you know. But they weren't...so.....the only logical thing to do was get rid of them. She didn't really have that much of a time to bury them. She'd doubt Professor Knox was going to allow her to go outside to do the ritual for these poor creatures anyway.
Thankfully, there was a charm that could aid her in times like this. Easy peasy. She'd get rid of the dead remnants in a no more than ten seconds. But first, she muttered a short prayer for the trio of spiders. Then she slowly moved the tip of her wand towards their remnants. "Deletrius!" And then, as she had pictured already in her mind, the three dead spiders vanished in a wisp of smoke just like that.
Poor them. Dying so young and all. Sigh.

| Post 3 Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia Okay, so, moving away from the window now, she was gonna work on the other ones. Scourgify and Poliotus, right? Those weren't hard since they'd just done them, and she'd been casting Scourgify for awhile. So...that seemed like a good one to go with next, yeah? She'd managed to do a new one, so she could reward herself with using an easy one.
She wandered over to a small group of four empty, dusty desks that hadn't been cleaned yet. "Scourgify," she said, pointing her wand at one desk and then continuing on, "Scourgify"ing all four desks until they were no longer covered with dust. They looked just like her desk had when she'd cleaned it earlier.
That was easy, at least.

She was clearly an expert at glass cleaning charms and all things glass cleaning and all things glass. Clearly. Alice decided she was going to move on to becoming an expert at all things cleaning, too, and that required more spellwork. Scouring charm next? That was simple, she knew it and could already preform it with ease. It was already hardwired into her brain, so she started on it immediately, moving back over to her desk and pointing her wand at it. "Scourgify."
It seemed to be clean enough, so she stepped back and cast it on the legs of the desk, too. Those were just as dirty as the table, weren't they? "Scourgify." Alice scrubbed off all of those with the spell until they were shining.
Easy peasy.
More fistpumps.

Aaaaaand, finally....the spell that she had mentioned earlier on their discussion. Impervius. That was the exact charm she had casted over the windows up at their dorms to repel water, snow....absolutely anything especially now what winter was fast approaching. She and her dorm mates were fond of watching the sun in the horizon in the early mornings so it was a requisite. They won't have to wipe off anything that can blur out their outlook during those days. And that's what she'll do with some of the windows in this classroom too.
Edging towards the openings on the far side of the room, the sixth year sent out excuses as she passed friends. Even shared a few Scourgifies to younger ones who seemed to be a bit on their heels too. She also passed one attractive thing on the way - you know, aside from all the sparkly desks and all. Yep, yep. Her very own Slytherin Captain. "Looking good, Captain." She really liked boys who knew how to rid of their mess. Wasn't she just lucky that her boyfriend was almost OCD? Uh huh. She thought so. Wink. Wink.
She nudged him slightly before squeezing out of there and heading back towards the panel of windows. Hmm. T'was still marred with filthy. It seemed as though no one had touched it yet. So it needed to be thoroughly clean, right? "Scourgify!" Sweep the dust off like whoa. Followed by, "Vitrumonia!" That was for the glass to make it more sparkly than it already was. Pfft. Who was she kidding...it didn't look sparkly at first but now it did...because she had done quite a great job at that. Self-praising herself? She needed that sometimes.
And then, to repel the dust and all those dirty things from touching those windows again. She tapped on the glass and muttered, "Impervius! Impervius. Impervius." And that's how you do it folks. The Beezus Castell way.
What else could she do, hmm?

Surely class had to be coming to a close? He really couldn't see much else that had to be cleaned. But Ethan knew he could practice one more spell, one that Knox had included up on the board that he hadn't done yet. Maybe he could do this one and class would be dismissed. He hoped so.. he was ready for lunch.
He returned to his desk and tapped his wand on it. "Impervious!" There.. not that he was prone to spill his ink in class, but if there was an accident, now the desk was protected. He walked up the aisle and charmed the rest of the desks. Tap.. "Impervious!" Tap.. "Impervious!" Tap.. "Impervious!" Tap.. "Imperious!" There.. most of the row was now protected against liquid-type spills. His work was done, right? He thought so and returned to his desk to sit down.

Eh. Next on the list was Vitrumonia. Elise didn't particularly want to head to the windows, they were already pretty clean from all the people who decided to take the easy route. Instead, she reached into her bag for her reading glasses and opened the case sneakily. Nobody was watching her, right?
Wand pointed at the smudged lenses, she sighed. Fingerprints were always annoying on a lens. The wand movement didn't really look like it needed practicing, so the Ravenclaw figured that she'd just get it over with. The fewer people knowing about her need for glasses, the better. Even if it was only for reading.
"Vitrumonia," she whispered, waving her wand over her glasses quickly before taking a look. It was CLEAN! That was just great. Brilliant, even! Shoving it quickly back into its case, she hoped nobody saw that. SHE didn't wear glasses... unless she was studying. Nobody had to know that but her Claws, thank you.

She was getting tired and she didn't want to do this anymore. Peyton just wanted to go to her dorm with a great, big bowl of ice cream and read Quidditch magazines. The thing was that she wasn't even mad at having to clean. She couldn't be bothered by it.
Stepping next to the shelf she had just cleaned, Peyton pointed her wand at the dusty surface of this one. The faster she helped finish cleaning this classroom the faster she'd leave. Yes. That was the spirit. Doing the assigned wand movement, she said, "Poliotus!"
There.
Polished shelves.
Happy?
'Cause SHE TOTALLY WAS.

| Post 2 Who Am I? Ern's 2460FUN Okay, okay. He had this sort of. All he had to do was get his head in the game, throw on a smirk and fake it until he made it. Yeah? He was really good at that. Smirk. Ascanius was always really good at that because that was the Essex way. Heh.
So he pointed his wand at the floor and said clearly, "Scourgify." Maybe he had done it wrong, maybe it wasn't going to work, but whatever happened at least it LOOKED like he was doing something which was all that mattered. Yeah?
Wait, hang on. Was it actually working. Smirk. 'Course it was. He was awesome.
Now what was next?

Great! This was the last of the required spells before she could move on to the extra-credit thing. Obviously, Elise was excited. Her wand held over her freshly-scourgified table, she grinned pretty widely. She wasn't sure about being able to do this non-verbally, so verbal charms would have to do for now. She could practice it without speaking later. After class.
For now, though, Elise took a deep cleansing breath. She'd need it, considering all the dust flying everywhere. Disgusting. "Poliotus," she said determinedly, her wand tracing an 'S' over the table. A nice layer of unshiny seemed to magically peel away from the table as her wand swept over it, revealing a much shiner wooden surface.
Awesomesauce.

| Post #4 urine trouble | Pat's Strong Confident Other Half | Pees Like a Champion Unicorn Racehorse So... he was taking a little too long, wasn't he? People had managed to clean windows and walls and floors and he was still stuck on the same window as before.
Okay... he was going to hurry up now. Yeah. Clean clean clean.
But before he started to work on the rest of the glass, Alec placed his wand in the pocket of his robes and... started to waves his hands around. And jump up and down on the tips of his toes too. Because he needed to limber up, yeah? And pump himself. And tell himself that he CAN catch snitches clean windows. They were going to be shiny too.
A minute or so later, the Hufflepuff stopped and took another deep breath. He reached into the pocket and took out his wand again, his eyes on the window in front of him. Okay... window... "Vitrumonia!" he said, drawing a big line across the area he wanted to clean up. He was almost ready to see the light streaming through the would-be clean window.
But the window? ... Only half clean. Half. Not perfect. ... Frown.
Come ON, Summers! "VITRUMONIA!" CONFIDENCE. He had MORE of it. It was a weird feeling and it sort of made him feel... weird. REALLY happy but really weird. But the window was clean now! Like REALLY clean! And SHINY. GRIN.
... Also... no one had heard that, right?

Going back to her desk area, Peyton flopped on her chair, tapping her wand against the desk. It's wood reflected light because it had been perfectly polished.
It would be a pity to see it get dirty again.
Hmmm.
Thinking about it, Peyton thought of the other spells Knox had mentioned. The Impervius Charm should work to protect the surface of her desk from spills or ink or...various things. Her work wouldn't go in vain that way. "Impervius," she muttered, practicing the charm in her lips.
After several practices, she felt ready. And besides, she's done it like, once before. And she was talented in Charms. So, yeah. "Impervius!" she chirped, tapping the desk.
Ooooh! :3

Raising a hand to her hair instinctively because she was a girl and they did that, Elise was quite shocked to find quite a bit of dust left there. When did that happen? Oh, right. At the beginning of class when Nessie's desk had vomitted dust onto Elise who had conveniently selected a seat in front of the head girl. Probably not one of her best decisions of the year, but she hadn't expected THAT.
Anyway, it was easily fixed. Elise was magical, after all. Wand held up to her hair, she sighed. Hopefully this didn't cause her hair to vanish or something but that was still fixable. Heh. Magic was awesome.
"Tergeo," she muttered, tracing her wand down the length of her hair from her scalp all the way down to where it hung before moving on to the other parts of her hair. It was wooorking. "Tergeo."
Oh, look at that! Her hair was all pretty and shiny now!

| post 8 HOLISTIC ACTRESS {X O} EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED Mika watched some of the other students do their work as she thought of what to do next. There was a rather mean and scary (itty bitty) spider staring at her from another web. She didn’t like these things. “del-Deletrius” as she turned she spotted an thing dangling from Mo’s hair.
Yeah poor kid. “Spi-spide-spider” she managed to squawk out. And pointed finger. Pointing with wands could be bad. “hair…spider, hair.” Yeah she sounded crazy but maybe he’d get it.
She had to look away, and when she did she spotted it. A wad of bubblegum just sitting there on a seat. “Deletrius” there, the gum was gone. So good. She was glad for that even if her hand was still shaking and maybe she might have accidentally banished someone’s quill. But quills were more replaceable than say, desks. She was glad the desk hadn’t gone poof as well.

So Elise was almost done with the extra-credit assignment thing. Even if it was an in-class assignment. It counted for house points and she'd take as MANY of those as she could get. House points, because third place was definitely not where Ravenclaw belonged and Elise was going to help them get this house cup if it was the last thing she did.
Next spell on the list was deletrius and turning quickly to her left, Elise spotted a cobweb in the corner. Quite a few cobwebs actually. She was never fond of spiders and the fact that they had to build their webs in classrooms actually irked her quite a bit. Wand aimed right at the center of the collection of cobwebs, she smirked evilly.
“Deletrius.” Goodbye, cobwebs.
