| | Charms I When you walk into the Charms classroom, you will find it much like the rest of the castle; dirty, dusty, shabby. You will find dust bunnies, spiderwebs, and maybe even some webs with inhabitants in them. The grimy desks are in 6 straight rows, divided into two columns, facing the front of the room. The windows are closed, but the light shines through the dirty, spotted glass. Professor Knox is standing in front of her clean desk, watching the students file into the classroom. A closed box sits on the floor. Next to the professor is the chalkboard that says, in big, clean letters: "Sit down and be quiet." OOC: Class has now started! Please do not post your character arriving late, just pretend they've been in class the whole time! Please read the rules before posting. We'll know if you didn't. Class Progression:
1. Start of class / exploding dust / first question
2. Answers / Scourgify Review / New Charm: Poliotus / Activity
3. New Charm: Vitrumonia / Activity #2 This class will end on Monday, May 27th at 6 AM GMT. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Tatiana (Tanner) Donne First Year | post #2 Glass. Now she was going to polish some glass. She tried to think of something else to clean besides windows and fancy doors. Tanner wanted to make every part of the room clean, not just the obvious parts. Wasn't that what the teacher said?
.................
...............
Or something? Something like that, right? Now time to find something to clean.
She saw some glasses, and thought for a moment about cleaning those. That seemed like an idea less likely to be cool and helpful, and more likely to be dangerous and backfire horribly. Cleaning things near people's eyes almost never worked. Windows it was.
Walking over to said windows, she stood in front and looked at the dusty glass. Vitrumonia. Okay. One and a two and...
"Vitrumonia." The glass looked a little more polished, but not in the way the professor was asking for. The eleven year old sighed. She hated it when things went wrong. Okay, one more time! And with feeling? Probably with feeling.
"Vitrumonia." The glass still did not look as shiny and polished as the professor wanted it to be. Stupid glass. Couldn't ya learn to work with a person? |

| #7 Arts TRANSPONSTER! Alright, she needed to practice Impervius non-verbally until she got it. Sophie knew she could do it verbally, so she'd try until she got it non-verbally. Had to make the best out of the lesson, right??
So she moved away from the window and went back to her stuff, avoiding her classmates as they all cleaned around. Before she reached her desk, though, she saw something on the wall opposite of where she was before. So she walked pass her things and went straight to the dirty spot on the wall. After staring at the... whatever that black stuff was for a few seconds, Sophie held up her wand.
Before she cast anything, though, she eyed the furniture that was against said wall. Hmmm, she didn't want to get that all wet, did she? Tapping the furniture with her wand, she concentrated on the incantation reeeeally hard.
....Did it work? She couldn't tell! The Hufflepuff ran her hand over the wooden furniture and... didn't notice anything. But the spell wasn't really meant to make the target feel any different anyway. Welp, she'd have to test it, then! So just to be on the safe side, Sophie re-cast the Impervius Charm non-verbally on the furniture. There. Hopefully it had worked either one of the tries. Hehe. "Aguamenti." She said out loud, pointing her wand at the dirty spot on the wall. sldkfjsnfjkd It was automatic!! She had to concentrated later in order to cast a non-verbal 'Tergeo' and get rid of all the water again.
At least the dirt was gone with the water. AND! The furniture seemed dry! Sophie touched it with her hand once again and smiled. Yeeeeeeesssssss!!! Beam beam beam!!

Now she'd need to try the new charm, yeah? The Glass Cleaning Charm? Ella decided to do some work on the incantation first. Practice and such. "vee-truh-MOH-nee-uh...vee-truh-MOH-nee-uh...vee-truh-MOH-nee-uh..." Seemed right. Now to put it all together. "Vitrumonia...Vitrumonia.... Vitrumonia...Vitrumonia." And the wand movement was pretty simple to. Just a wave of your wand over the glass, right? Ella could do that.
Walking over to the nearest dirty windows, the blonde got out her wand and eyed them thoughtfully. Yup, they'd definitely need a good cleaning charm. She could barely see outside with all the caked up dirt! Meh. That just wouldn't do. The house elves would be disgusted if they could see this. Frown.

Beezus casted the Glass Cleaning Charm a bit more until the window she was working on was sparkling clean. Of course, it didn't went without effort so she began to take deep breaths upon finishing. Although, she had to admit, this kind of task was one she was fond of and even though it was tiresome, it was also fun.
And look...more fun. There was a very dusty wooden shelf next to her. Well...next to the window actually. But whatever. It needed to be cleaned.
So...
"Scourgify!" The dust particles evaporated into thin air, thank you very much. She worked on the flat surfaces first before scourgifying the posts that held the furniture together, making sure she had included every nook and cranny. And swish swash, more scourgifying.

So...windows. Ella kept getting distracted by the thoughts of the house elves. She wanted to know where they were, what they were up to, if they were cooking delicious treats for other students somewhere. Frown. They were okay, yeah? ...Yeah.
Pointing her wand at the nearest dirty window the sixteen year old said, "Vitrumonia," before doing the waving motion over a small section as a test. Beam. It worked really well and the blonde was eager to see just how big of a section she could manage at a time. She continued on, waving and saying the incantation with concentration. It was impressive, how well this particular charm worked. The windows she was standing in front of looked good as new. They even sort of sparkled which Ella really liked. Hopefully no birds would fly into the windows thinking they were open, though. Meep. That wouldn't be good.

And shortly afterwards, that shelf was dust-free just like her desk from earlier. Gotta love the simple cleaning charm that didn't require too much concentration, right? It still got to work even though half of her attention was to her classmates. Her eyes were particularly on her Ravenclaws, making sure they were carrying on the task without so much trouble. So far, so good though.
Moving back to her work...
She had to polish the shelf, you reckon? Of course. Professor Ivy did say to make the classroom spotless and that was exactly was Beezus was trying to do. "Poliotus! Poliotus!" The brunette casted the charm with an S movement and tadaaah! Sparkle. Sparkle. More casting here and there and within a few minutes, the shelf was looking divine.

Minerva finished up with the spiders and turned. Now what to do. She walked around the classroom and without much thought Scourgify a few more desks. Smiling as she watched the others do their spells, seeing Kace and a few other of her puff first years doing pretty well. She was glad that they were catching on. As much as Professor Knox seemed like a brilliant charms professor and Minerva liked her so far, she didn't seem like someone to cross. Chuckling to herself Minerva wondered if Hogwarts was attracting professors that seemed way to scary, but were super smart and now without Magnus all three were teaching her favorite subjects.
Stopping she looked at the desks now that they were cleaned and polished Minerva wondered if they couldn't use something else to help them. Why not keep them from getting damaged. If the desks were old enough then they might need some extra help and if they had the charm before it might just need renewed. Doing the wand movements "Impervius" She watched the desk. Well now to try it Minerva pointed Aguamenti she watched as the water jumped from her wand and bounced off the desks. Good.. good. Minerva smiled at herself and the without much thought pointed her wand and cleaned up the water she had just let out of her wand.

Vitrumonia? Weeeiiird, but if it cleaned then Nessie was interested. These spells were sort of like the replacement of keeping hand sanitizer on you twenty four seven, thus why Nessie approved. What she didn't approve of though was the fact that they were doing the dirty work for the Professor. Heh. The perks of being in charge.
After practicing the last incantation for a few moments she decided to begin and with the easiest spell out of the three of course. So Scourgify it was, not difficult for her at all by now.
First her chair then? Because her desk was kinda clean already.
Standing up and dusting her bottom, the red head turned around and eyed her chair. It needed to be cleaned for sure. Those germs needed to pack up and POOF away because those germs were not okay. "Scourgify!" She pointed her wand at her chair and watched happily as the dirt disappeared just like that.
Yeah. She was a germ fighter now.

Now that Ethan had done the required charms, he might as well do some unrequired ones too. He thought he might at least do Impervius. That was supposed to keep something clean, right? He found an empty desk toward the back of the room. "Impervius!", he almost yelled at it. Hmm. Now he had to be able to test it somehow. He tried to think of some spell somewhere that would work. Maybe Incendio, but if it hadn't worked it might fry the desk, and Ethan was pretty sure that Professor Knox wouldn't want open flames in the classroom in the first place. Ah. He was pretty sure that he had heard another student say some spell and had water come out the end of his wand. "Aguamenti!", he exclaimed as he remembered what the incantation was. Excited, he sprinted back over to the desk. Visualizing water coming out of his wand, he cried, "Aguamenti!" Nothing happened. Visualizing and this time flourishing his wand, "Aguamenti!" he shouted. Water came spurting out the end of his wand. He was relieved that the water bounced off the desk. Ethan was so proud of himself. He knew he was becoming a better wizard with every second he spent at Hogwarts.

YUSH!
So far, the Ravenclaw Prefect had cleaned a large window and a rather medium-sized shelf. She needed to clean some more. Her hands were tingling to get dirt and dust out of that classroom. Like legit. So she ventured from the front of the classroom to the back where there were some desks without occupants. Excess ones, you know. And because they were unoccupied, they weren't cleaned earlier on.
They were still marred with filth.
The desks definitely needed a Castell intervention. Yep. And here she was. Ready to fight off all the grime and muck. "You're going down, dusty-pants." She murmured to herself as she pointed her wand at the nearest one. And...."Scourgify!" With one sweep, the desk's surface went from nay to yay. She was good with this, have you noticed? Well, that's what you get for having an almost OCD boyfriend....you adapt their talents.
One desk done, then she moved to the next one, then to the next until all three had been scourgified. Even the inside foot of the desks where looked up too. She didn't let any space slip by. Aiming her wand again..."Poliotus!" Need to make them as polished as the trophies in the Trophy room, right? Speaking of which, she idly wondered if the trophies were still as shiny as they supposed to be. She decided she'd check on later and if not, then she'd get to use the new charms.

Now that the windows were sparkly clean, Ella's eyes scanned the area around them. It looked as though some rust had built up since they'd been away, maybe where a window had been left open on a rainy day or something? She could fix this easily enough though, right? Right.Tergeo would probably work. The sixteen year old didn't use that spell as much as she used the Scouring charm but she had used it before so this wasn't new to her. Nope. Seasoned veteran right here, ladies and gents.
Anywhoo.
Pointing her wand at the spot, she said clearly, "Tergeo!"

Then Sarah's gaze shifter down the corner into the niche. In it were a whole assortment of things.Yet mostly there was dust. Luckily she knew that one can use Tergeo not only for liquids yet for dust too. "tergeo" she casted her wand pointing to the dust in the niche. When she looked again the dust was gone. She then moved along the length of the wall using tergeo on the dust that had accumalted in the crevices and niches. She wondered when the last time the room was cleaned was.
Then she spotted a dust bunny, she rarely saw them in such an enviroment so it was quite a surprise. Yet she did know the spell for that. "Deletrius" she casted causing the dust bunny to disappear into nothingness. It was a pretty cool to see it happen. There were a few more of those dust bunnies and Sarah was an eager disintergrater. It gave her such satisfaction to cast the spell on it and watch it disappear

She was humming now, oh yes she was. It was likely Tiptoe Through The Tulips? She couldn't be sure. It was a song her grandmother used to sing whenever the woman did household chores whenever Beezus and her sister spent time with her during summers when they were much younger. She managed to get that, it seems.
Oh, right. Too much for the trip down memory lane. It was time to continue working.
"Excuse me...excuse me." She said, as she scooted amidst the crowd that was her classmates who were rather so busy doing some cleaning of their own. It looked as though they'd actually freed more than half of the classroom from the stains and dirt. Was this making Professor Knox happy? It better. She could tell everyone was exerting in effort.
She was too. And that was why she was now working on the door that lead to a place she didn't know. It wasn't the entrance nor the exit that they know of so...she didn't know. She'd ask Professor Knox but the woman was assisting some of her peers so Beezus decided to just get on with the cleaning and ask her when she was finished with that side. Wand out. "Scourgify!" Up to doooooooown. The same with "Poliotus!" It was as though the door was shedding skin. She even stuck around to watch.
Awesome.

She did a few more cleaning and tehn she decided to move onto the protection part. Namely using the Impervius spell. She decided to start at her desk. She tapped the polished surface with her wand, "Impervius" she said. Then she moved over to the windows that she had done. "Impervius" she said as she tapped each pane and frame. The corner niche was next to be placed under the Impervius charm. Sarah hoped it would work, it still puzzled her how so much dust and things got into such an unobtrusive corner of the room. She then started to go from desk to desk along her row and tapping all the polished ones and saying "Impervius". Now unless the professor purposely messed it up, they would not have to spend the next lesson cleaning it.
While she was at it, she took off her glasses, "Impervius" she said tapping the one lens and then repeating the procedue on the other. The whole class had worked together and it seemed now that it was basically all done. Even teh floor beneath Sarah was polished and clean. So she casted "Impervius" on it as well. Then she replaced her glasses back on her face.
Now that she had applied all the charms on the board at least once Sarah decided to do more. She went up to anotehr window and began to work on it using all the charms on it.

Now this was the sort of activity Mo could really get behind. He watched his classmates move off to begin their cleaning tasks with a fair amount of glee before choosing his own little corner of the world to clean. Like... perhaps, one of these deeply set windows. They were smaller and not particularly good at providing light, but they needed cleaning just like everything else.
Where to start, though? It seemed pointless to just start polishing when the glass was thick with dirt. He pointed his wand at the window and muttered, "Scourgify." The glass was much much cleaner now, albeit still streaky and impossible to see through clearly.
Still, while he was at it... "Scourgify. Scourgify." Mo cleaned off the deep sill and around the window pane, revealing the glass was set into darkly burnished metal. Ick. Rust-coated and miserable looking.

Spider webs. Ick. Ella wasn't a particularly big fan of spiders, especially the giant human-eating kind. Yeah, she just didn't really want to mingle with anything like that. Noting all the spiderwebs around, the blonde figured that meant lots of spiders were lurking around as well. She could just take care of those now, yeah? Yeah. What was that spell someone had suggested? Deletrius? Yeah, that one. It was meant to disintegrate things like webs and such. That would be perfect.
With a plan in mind, the blonde started going around, checking corners and crevices for webs she could clean up. "Deletrius!" 1 down... 278672369 to go. "Deletrius!" Eep! Was that a dead bug caught in the next web? Shudder. "Deletrius!" BAM! Take that, spider webs.

Most of the dirt had been removed during Mo's first round of spells, and he was now able to get directly at the small glass panes making up the window. He leaned in to peer through one of them, hoping to see glimpses of daylight and the grounds through the smudgy glass, but it was too thick and warped (and smudged) to let more than pale light through. Maybe after cleaning it would be better?
He really ought to try the spell first, though. Mo turned away from the window and murmured the unfamiliar incantation until the shape and texture of it felt right in his mouth. He gave a few healthy jabs of his wand, mostly for effect, and only then did he turn back to the window. "Vitrumonia," he pointed his wand at the first pane and was pleased to see the glass go all shiny and clean. Exactly... now the next pane.

What was that charm Bee had mentioned earlier? The one that repelled stuff... Like water and dirt and dust kind of stuff? Impervius, yeah? Yeah. That was it! Ella eyed the desks near her curiously and tilted her head. It'd be a really good idea to use this charm now that they were clean, right? That way they'd stay that way and the students wouldn't have to worry about them! See? It was a very helpful charm to use.
The badger bit her lip and practiced the incantation in her head a few times before tapping the first desk and saying, "Impervius!" Welp. Hopefully that worked. On to the next. Tap. "Impervius!" And on and on and on. Tap. Tap. Tap. "Impervius! ....Impervius! ...Impervius!"

Laura had been watching, she had no idea what she was supposed to do, she wasn't really good with charms and she didn't want to hurt anyone so she hadn't really bothered trying them, but saying that watching her friends having fun made Laura want to try and so she decided that she would at least give it ago, hopefully nothing bad would happen.
Laura pointed her wand at at a chair and looked at it, it was really messy and Laura wanted to clean it but which spell to use, in the end she decide to point her wand at the chair whilst saying. "Scourgify!" Laura looked at it and smiled it was a bit cleaner but she could do better. "Scourgify!" Laura was really happy when the chair was clean, now she knew she could do this spell it was awesome.

Mo moved down the window, now that the top was clean. Each subsequent "Vitrumonia", left another square of window clean and shining, until that part of the room was considerably better lit by the natural daylight streaming through. Once again, Mo leaned forward and pressed his eye to the glass, and he was pleased to discover that he could see green and blue and brown through the thick glass. Still not clear, but then this type of glass never really was.
Oh, but now there was smudge from where his face had been pressed, and Mo pointed his wand again and murmured, "Vitrumonia." Now all the glass was clean, without even fingerprints or smudges, and Mo stepped back to admire her work. Perfect.
Now... to get the frame clean.

Gum taken care of it was time to move on again. They had the whole room to tackle after all which wasn't proving to be much of a task since they were all involved.
Soon she was back at the back of the class again; it's what happened when she was doing nothing but walking around semi-aimlessly. Lex was about to turn and head back toward the front when she found MORE cobwebs! Merlin's beeeard, just how many did this classroom have?? None of the other classrooms were this messy. What had the Professor been doing wrong. Yes, clearly this was all her doing. "Deletrius!" That took care of the cobwebs...helloooo, what's this?
Looking down, she realized she'd been standing in a small pool of water. The window just to the side was all the explanation she needed. What ever happened to closing these during bad weather???
Lex raised her wand to the small puddle. "Tergeo!" Hehehe Professor Airey had taught her that one!

The wooden window frames set into the stone were pretty miserable looking. Not just caked in old dirt, but they were warped from disuse. In fact, Mo would be shocked if the window could even open with the amount of build-up currently caking the frames. The question wasn't whether or not it needed cleaning but in the best way to go about it. Scrub off the dirt and then try polishing? Was there any point in polishing first?
With gusto, Mo shoved up the sleeves to his robes and pointed his wand at one of the slats. "Scourgify." The dirt sort of melted under the strength of the cleaning spell, leaving behind the scuffed wood. Sigh.
He pointed his wand again. "Poliotus." Under the just-cast spell, the wood now appeared brightly polished and clean. He moved on to the next slat, repeating the process. "Scourgify. Poliotus." The frame now clean, the whole window seemed to sparkle under the sun now pouring into the room. That was good work, it was.

| Post 6 Stephanoodle || Adorable Nerd Kace was feeling confident using the required charms and even starting the ones that were not required. He would love to try them out and see if he could handle it. He wanted to try and waterproof his desk first.
He tapped his desk and said, "Impervious?" and nothing happened. Hmm...maybe he said it wrong. He tried again, "Impervius!" and then it worked. His desk was waterproof. It was a good thing too incase he drooled on it from sleeping. Just kidding he would never do that...or would he? He also looked at the window near his desk and that looked like it was leaking.
He went over and saw the water coming through. He tapped his wand on the window and said "Impervius!" and the window was waterproofed. He seemed confident that the spell was working. Then he saw bugs near the window building a nest. He gasped and then used the spell "Deleterius!" and then the bugs were gone and even the nest was gone.
Whew...that was a close one. Good thing it wasn't a nest of bees. That would have been horrible to deal with.

Now that his window was all spotless, Mo extended his area of focus out by just a few feet. There were loads of people in the room cleaning with him, so it didn't make sense for him to run off willy-nilly and get in the way of people. Better that he stay here and make THIS spot as perfect as possible.
At some point or another, water had obviously leaked through this window, leaving rivulets of something green and disgusting on the stonework below the window. Mo spent a long time trying to identify shapes in the gross before finally pointing his wand at it. "Scourgify," he muttered, giving a small grin as the green disappeared and clean masonry appeared beneath. And people complained about cleaning.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Abigail L Blythe First Year | Post #2 You have bewitched me body and soul, And I love- I love- I love you Walking around some of the other students she found an area that hadn't been cleaned by anyone, there was a cupboard and a chair sitting in a corner of the large classroom, all of it completely covered in dust. Pulling out her wand and practicing the wand movements again a few times before repeating the incantations. Waving her wand across the entire area she spoke the incantation "Scourgify" and the dust was gone. But it wasn't enough so making the "s" pattern with her wand she clearly said "Poliotus" and the floor and the cupboard began to shine. The cleanness made the blonde grin "Off to the next place" |
