Located on the grounds along the Black Lake with the Forbidden Forest to the left as you face the lake is a VERY large transparent tent with various "rooms" to utilize while you complete your Astronomy homework without having to face the cold January night. There is a large central "room" with cushions for students to sit on or lay against while they look to the heavens and in a "room" off to the right is a humble firepit - charmed, of course, to not expand and burn the place down - along with a table of food and snacks to help you make it through the night. You will only find campout foods here, such as things to make s'mores and hot dogs, but Professor Flamsteed has also brought ice cream upon many a students' request. There is also a small assortment of hot and cold drinks - including coffee - for you to choose from.
While the idea of a sleepover with your classmates outside may seem like a lot of fun, do not forget that you are here to do your homework and that Professor Flamsteed is present.
OOC: This thread is meant for those students wishing to complete their Astronomy homework. You DO NOT need to have participated in the lesson to do so and can still play in here if you wish.
The image of the night sky is NOT a map provided by Professor Flamsteed. Instead imagine your character looking up and seeing that - only obviously without the labels.

Without any more unnecessary thoughts looming inside her head, Beezus was finally able to drag her complete attention to the task at hand - locating Orion. It was the very first constellation she could find all by herself free of her late father's help whom taught her all about sunrise viewing, stargazing and plainly admiring the sky above. So locating it right now wasn't a hassle. In fact, it was very easy. All she had to do was find the three stars in a short, straight line.
That was Orion's belt and then she'd found him, Orion the Hunter!
See? Easy peasy.
Then she recorded it down on her journal, indicated the time...6:54 pm. That was very well still within the 6 pm, yeah? She was right on schedule. Now all she had to do was continue her observation of her chosen constellations as the night goes on.
Nomming all the way.
And while she nommed, more peeps arrived. Why was Minnie shouting? Ethan, can you please tell your girlfriend to lower her voice so we don't wake up the acromantulas at the Forbidden Forest? Madam DADA was here too! "Good evening, Professor Romanos!" Beam. Beam.

Holding his girlfriend's hand, Jake entered the tent. "Nice place," he commented offhandedly, looking up at the sky. You could see it just as well inside as you could outside the tent, which was... probably what Flamsteed was going for, right? Yeah. Nodding to himself, he led the way to an empty spot in what he figured was the main part of the tent.
"So... Polaris, yeah?" He asked, turning to face Anya and sitting on the ground.
Anya grinned happily holding Jake's hand. So it was nice to actually have permission to be out at night looking at the stars as opposed to sneaking out. Which... she didn't do, by the way. Of course, having star gazed her entire life, she wasn't sure what all she was supposed to learn from being out here. But... whatever. She wasn't going to complain. Why? Because she had a comfy blanket and an awesome boyfriend!
AND! Was that ice cream over there?! Yes please.
"Ice cream first." Anya insisted dragging the Prefect along behind her. Who cares if it was still January, right?
"Orrrrr better yet. I eat. You find the stars." Yup. Maybe she could even get away with taking a nap while he worked too. That would be brilliant.

Which probably was the reason her hand was sooooo cold, but oh well because she had ice cream.
"HELLO PROFESSOR!! READY TO FIND THOSE STARS?" she giggled a bit and looked around. "Jory..Jory, Hey!!! Finding any stars yet?" She went over to her friend as she ate the ice cream. Yum ice cream, Maybe we will find the Miniachi constellation again." because it totally was a new constellation whether Professor Flamsteed said it was or not.
Looking up...Game Face...
Minerva looked up at the sky as she ate. Now she was determined to find this constellation again. She looking around not finding the Miniachi, but look there.. there was Polaris. Polaris was becoming so much easier to find for her how awesome was that..
TOTALLY AWESOME.. and wait.. what was that near Polaris.. "OH MY GOODNESS.. THERE.. THERE.. IT'S URSA MINOR.. I found it.. I found a constellation.. I'm like.... Astronomy brilliant again!!" She jumped up and down. This was amazing..
More ice cream.. oh yes she would take another bite.
So back to work? Jory decided he would try to locate Draco next as he had not had time to find it back in class due to the extended time he had spent on Cepheus. He was about to turn his eyes back into the sky when he saw another Profesor enter the tent. "Hiiiiiii, Professor!'' Jory called to the woman.
And then there was Min! Speaking rather loudly! "Miiiiiiiin!'' he called out for his friend. "Yes, I am! Isn't this fun, Min? Want ice cream, Min? Min, Min, Min.'' Her name sounded so cooool! Min! Jory did not know why but he was suddenly feeling hyper. Again. He grinned at his friend.
"Okay, focus, Jory!'' he told himself, trying to be stern but failing all the same. But he managed to turn his attention back to the sky. Draco. Yes, he had to find Draco. As in Draco Malfoy? "Hey, Min! Draco Malfoy turned himself into a constellation!'' The Puffer laughed. But at the same time he was scanning the night sky, using the North Star as a guide and occasionally referring to his text to check the constellations shapes.
"Found it!'' Draco was just behind the Ursa Minor and Polaris. Yup, a quick look at the shape in the book confirmed that was indeed Draco.
Staying up late was not something where Sonea was used to, she needed her beauty sleep and doing her homework and follow this lesson was really NOT good for her, she already had seen that she had bags under her eyes! But… this lesson was one of her favorites so she accepted it and hoped that the bags under her eyes would disappear after a night of good sleep. But before that Sonea entered the tent she stopped and looked really sneaky around her, she already had get a warning from professor Flamsteed that he DIDN’T wanted to have her rat, Little princess alone in his classroom and she had the suspicion that he also didn’t wanted Little princess inside the tent, but as long as he didn’t would see her, there would no problem! Sonea DIDN’T WANTED to leave Little princess alone for the whole night!
The young girl sneaked inside the tent after she had made sure that Little princess was hidden safely in her pocket and smiled short at the people who were already inside the tent. “Oh, there is food” Muttered Sonea and grabbed some food and something to drink before she searched for a place where she could do her homework.

Minerva started laughing.. Laughing at her own name. He said it a lot.. Wow it was great o see someone else in such an amazing mood. See Ethan there was nothing wrong with being super happy.. Others were, maybe he was they should be concerned about, not her. No she was perfectly fine the happiest she had ever been. Oh and they had ice cream there.. Well guess she didn't have to bring her own, but she almost pushed it in his face to see. "I brought my own, but I could always add more. Never enough Ice Cream now is there." She scooped up some and put it with her chocolate she had already in her hands.
Following Jory out of the tent with her ice cream forgetting about if there was anything else, she turned her eyes to the sky. Then snapped her blue eyes back at him, "You can do that? Seriously.. You can make yourself a constellation. That is so cool!!" Now she wanted to make herself a constellation, because that would be awesome.. but.. but.. "Then you would be stuck in the sky and I can't be stuck in the sky, I have to be here with Ethan and with everyone else.. NO forget it I'm not going to be a constellation." She laughed, "But do you know Daichi and I found an ice cream constellation." because they totally did even if Professor Flamsteed said they didn't.
She looked up at the sky again, "It's the Minichi constellation it's around here some where." Finding Polaris again she started looking for it. "There.. there it is, the Minichi constellation aka the ice cream constellation." Yep it was totally there no matter what anyone said.
Why? "Orrrrr better yet. I eat. You find the stars." Yup. Maybe she could even get away with taking a nap while he worked too. That would be brilliant.
Orrr they could get ice cream. That worked too.
Jake tagged along after the girlfriend, shaking his head slightly at her and holding back a laugh. How had he not noticed the ice cream, though? He grabbed himself a bowl, giving Anya a look when she suggested that he do all the work and she get all the ice cream. "No," he replied, raising his eyebrows and snatching up a spoon.
"We can eat and work at the same time." Nod. All they had to do was look at the sky. They didn't even have to write anything down, so their hands would be free to work a spoon.
Returning his attention to the sky, the Gryffindor took only a few seconds before he found the North Star. "There it is," he said brightly, nodding in the general (very general) direction of Polaris.
So Kace promised himself if he found three constellations he was get ice cream...but instead he got hot coco. He liked the hot coco better actually. Alright time to look at the sky instead of the marshmallows melting in his cocoa.
He scanned the skies and knew he needed to find Ursa Major since he already found the minor. He was scanning.....scanning....scanning....then he FOUND it. It seemed beautiful and he always check the map to be sure. Sure enough he found it. He check it off his list. He beamed at himself and was proud of himself! He seemed to be better at the star gazing thing. Then a little upward and to the left he found Leo Minor. Hmm he never knew about that constellation before....but who cares he found it on the map!
He check that off his list.
Scribble...scribble....scribble....
Alright so he found some more constellations, now he REALLY wanted some ice cream. He wanted to get some chocolate with chocolate sauce on it. *licks lips* This seemed tasty as he say down and enjoyed his ice cream while looking at Leo Minor and admiring the beauty of it.

Okay, instead of looking for constellations like she was supposed to, Sky was GLARING at the loud Hufflepuffs. Really?! It wasn't enough that they had to interrupt the lesson, now they had to interrupt the homework too? Argh! Oh, there were professors here. But neither of them were saying anything. Grrr. So, it was up to her. "Could you two please be a little more quiet? You're distracting me from my homework." Which was what they were here for in the first place, yes?
Refocusing her attention back to Polaris, she started trying to find the constellations they were supposed to, hopefully sans distractions now.

She grabbed herself a spoon before looking up at what Jake was pointing out.
"Jakey love. That is the general direction." she said with a small smile. "Perhaps you can narrow it down a little more?" she said she continuing to smile. "Who knows when we'll need to randomly find north." she added with a slight sarcastic undertone.

Minerva was still admiring her and Daichi's constellation when she thought she heard something and looked around. Was someone talking to her? No couldn't have been unless they wanted to share her ice cream. OH maybe that was it she looked again and saw there was a snake, glaring. Well why was she glaring. Oh it had to be because she wanted Ice Cream.
Smile.. Smile..
Oh but she wasn't asking for ice cream. Quiet down, but they weren't being that loud, were they? "I'm sorry.. I was doing my homework as well. Would you like some ice cream? It makes homework so much more fun!" She beamed at the girl.. Sky wasn't it, she had seen her in a few classes before. They were in the same year as well.
Turning back to the sky she started to freak out a bit.. " I've lost it.. lost it.. POLARIS.. Where did you go... POLARIS.. HERE POLARIS POLARIS...Where are you hiding?" Why had the star run away from her. That' wasn't very nice of it...
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
His eyes looked tired, red in fact from the lack of sleep. Prefect duty plus the constant weird hyperness that he could not explain was wearing him out. His body looked like he could collapse any second and fall asleep, his mind however was wide awake and singing songs about ice creams.
Scratching his head, messing up his hair that he didn't feel like styling anymore because it would just get ruined again, the Slytherin found the stargazing sight and looked around. Ice cream...he saw ice cream...Without thinking, he walked to the table and grabbed a bowl. It was only when he was halfway done eating did he realize what he was doing. Merlin, he didn't even like ice cream THAT much! What was wrong with him?!
Placing the bowl down, he turned his gaze to Minerva who he overheard talking about Minichi constellation very enthusiastically. And she was right to do that. Cause HE was awesome. He didn't know what Minerva thought of herself but HE was awesome so Minichi constellation was AWESOME even if the Professor refused to believe it was an constellation. IT WAS!
Grinning from ear to ear, the Prefect found a spot to begin his homework.
With her wand in her hand and her cup tea besides her, she lowered her wand and listened to what the professor said to the Quidditch captain from Hufflepuff, she just wanted to do the same, but now she quickly hide her wand inside her pocket and tried to look as if she was not listening to the professor and as if she not just had wanted to do the same as the older girl.
She turned her back to the professor and sipped from her tea before she tried to remember how she could find Polaris… She had known it during the lessons, but now that she stared at the sky above her she was totally lost, where would she start? The young girl suddenly remembered that she had her notes with her and tried to find where she was searching for, she wanted to know where she could find Polaris and saw that she needed to search for the constellation and remembered that Polaris was located above Cassiopeia and right under Ursa Minor. Cassiopeia was something she knew, it was a funny little ‘W’ in the sky and… Yes! She saw Polaris!
This was a fun assignment - right? She thought so, even if it would be more fun to do so in the middle of the summer or maybe when it wasn't snowing. Which the last part they were in luck. Tonight was a clear nippy night and no snow was visible. Which was great. Because she didn't exactly want to have a tent with a see-through-ceiling falling on top of her. Because you wouldn't be able to tell where the exit was would you.
Still, she made her way to where the hot drinks were and filled her thermos with some of the hot water. "Thanks Flamsteed" she beamed and glanced at the stars again.
This was going to be fun, so fun, the sometimes-creepy (and crazy) claw girl found a large comfy looking cushion and sat down. There - perfect. She could just sit there and watch the stars be all beautiful and stuff.

With a satisfied smile the young girl made a note that she had found Polaris and where, she did exactly what professor Flamsteed had ordered and was sure that if she would read the notes she had made during the lesson that she could do this task perfectly! “But wha-…” The younger girl just wanted to say something when she yawned loudly. “Oh!” The young girl covered her mouth with her hand and blinked a few times with her eyes. She really liked this lesson but what she DIDN’T liked where the times. She REALLY needed her beauty sleep!
The second year wanted to sip again from her tea when she discovered that the cup was already empty and that she needed to fill it. She stood slowly up and grabbed a new cup of tea and this time with a LOT sugar, hoping that the sugar would give her some more energy.
Laura was looking around but she was more bothered about the fact, she didn't have much ice-cream. "Professor I can't see it." Laura wasn't lying she couldn't see it. "Where is it?" Laura was looking into the sky seeing if she could figure out what she was doing wrong but she couldn't figure it out.

Mo was tired, not having planned his day well enough to go a whole night without sleeping without there being some general grogginess. He made his way first thing to the snacks table, filling his pockets with biscuits before he topped off his thermos with cocoa. That was a good start, even if he had to burn off his tongue just to stay awake.
In the main room, Mo dropped onto a cushion near Mika and gazed up through the transparent ceiling. Mika was a good choice, mostly because she was always a little hyper and more likely to keep him awake through endless chattering. That was a compliment, all wrapped up in there somewhere.
"Creepy. You spotted our friend Polaris yet? I'm thinking..." He traced a few constellations with his fingertip in the air before pointing. "He's thataway."

"Entirely up to you," he nodded. "Some stars may not be as bright as others, so use of the cham could be beneficial as well. The primary goals of the assignment should not require its use, however." Such as Polaris. Airey could spot that from here quite easily without it. But yes, she was right. Best not to use that one too early in the evening considering they would be out here for a very long time.
"Glad you are enjoying yourself," he said with a nod before he continued to make his rounds.

Sigh. Miss Hyde. "I am afraid I cannot tell you the exact location of whatever it is you are looking for," he said with a small shake of the head. "Your assignment is to find Polaris and two constellations without my assistance. This does not mean that you cannot ask a friend to help you, however."
Had her mind been wandering during the lesson? He had given ample time practicing finding Polaris.

Finding Polaris should be a piece of cake. It not like he distracted himself by thinking about suits or anything in class. That would be foolish and irresponsible for a 15 year old.
Now what did he have to do to find polaris again. Look for the bear and the dipper. They were suppose to be pretty easy to find. Well there was Leo. But that does not help. Nigel kept on looking until he happened across the little dipper or whatever it was called.
He did what he was suppose to do and looked up until he found the star he was looking for. Well look at that, The one star he would need. If he dd not have a compass or a wand to use the four point spell. That would always be his first option. He was a wizard first and foremost.

Bubbly. That was the best way to describe Mika as she was there looking in the complete wrong section of the sky to find Polaris. So when Mo sat down next to her and asked if she had found Polaris yet she almost responded with a definite no and then he said he thought it was over in the other direction. Oooh that would make sense with the not finding it!
“Hey Macabre,” she smiled before glancing over to her friend, because there was only one person ever called her Creepy.
When she did glance over at him she was about to laugh and then she saw how tired he looked. She did blink when she saw him. “You look tired – you want some tea its Yerba Mate” she nodded. Yep she probably needed none of it because she was always bubbly like soda or any other fizzy uplifting thing you could think of.
“Right and finding –“ a blank look (her thinking look) crossed her face, “ursa minor in order to find it” she nodded over to him as she set forth to find both Ursa Minor and Polaris. Tipping her head back at the sky she pointed at a long constellation “isn’t that draco? If it is that means that ursa minor is near by and usra major is somewhere in that general area” she shrugged. For all she knew she could have been eyeing up Camelopardalis or Perseus or any slew of different constellations.

Now that she had Polaris and Ursa Minor in sight it was time find the others, that way she'd be able to track the movements of these things. That's what they were doing, yes?
Ooooooooooo!!! Professor Romanos! She didn't know the woman was coming star gazing. Or maybe she'd only shown up for the food. To be honest, if Lex didn't have any homework to do out here she'd still show up for the food. Definitely. Why do you think she went to all those club meetings? Interest? Pfft, no. Okay maybe a little but really it was for the food.
Er...but she was wasting time thinking about food. Right now, she needed to focus on the constellations and keeping her kneazle in sight. The last bit wouldn't have been so hard. He'd stopped looking up and was now curling up in the spot next to her--wait what?? "Oi!" She gave him a gentle jab. "No sleeping, you're meant to be keeping me company, remember???" Falling asleep was his thing. He did it just when she needed him most.
Alexa grinned and helped herself to more ice-cream once he pulled himself up and flopped on her lap again. "Good boy, now I believe we were star looking. That's Polaris and we found Ursa Minor next to it which means that's Draco." Mhm, mhm. "You know why that's important?" The kneazle yawned in response. "No, that's not it. It's important because next to Draco is Hercules." Her gaze shifted across the night sky until it finally did land on that constellation.

Sarah was really excited, this was what she called a fun assignment. CAMPING! She loved to go camping, her muggle cousins did not enjoy it so much as they thought camping was cold and dirty, then again they never had the resources of wizarding folk and some of her cousins were such sissies. She strolled into the awesome transparent tent, did a little gawping and then began to warm up. THIS WAS GOING TO BE AWESOME. She wished she could stay here forever as it was nice and warm and such a nice view too-
Wait, was that food. OMG! She strolled over there and took a handful of smores and began to eat them. Yummy, this was awesome for a girl whose diet had been salads since the beginning of the school year. It was like from heaven. Heaven- that reminded her she was here to work. She went over to a couch and plopped down on it. ‘I need to start’ she said to herself, still no move was made. ‘I really need to start’ she repeated, yet she still was enjoying the fire. This self talk continued until she finally forced herself to get to work (actually she had finished the smores she had taken). What was she meant to find first? She wanted to get the things done so she can have time to enjoy herself with nothing to do later and enjoy the company.
!!!!!! we know you have detention...so forgive us for slight godmoding <3

Leaving Medea's side for a moment, Airey walked around a bit more to check on the rest of his students since more had arrived and those that had been here already were making progress. Night was still young and there was A LOT of time before sunrise after all. Which made him think of the mural that he and Medea had painted in the treehouse. While that was an excellent piece of art, nothing beat the real thing. Nor the science behind it.
But now his attention was back on those in the bubble tend and.....
SPOILER!!: Alexa & her monster ^^

Neat! Another one down. Recording would happen soon.
RAGING COMETS WHAT IN MERLIN'S STUBBED TOE WAS THAT THING DOING HERE?!
Man!shrieking and practically climbing the side of the transparent tent as his doraphobia and ailurophobia kicked in, it took all of his strength not to take all of Gryffindor's points from the young lioness for bringing her THING to the campout. He had already reprimanded Miss Duvessa in his lesson when he had spotted her rat in his classroom, and he thought that that had been enough.
Perhaps he would need to amend his rules a bit.... Yes, that is what he would do when this campout was over.
But in the meantime... "MISS CAMBRIDGE! This is no place for your familiar to be," he said as he marched over towards her. "It would be counterproductive to your efforts and focus for you to return him to the castle yourself, so please allow Professor Romanos to take it for you."
Because he so wasn't going to touch it. Nope.
And yes, that was your cue Medea to come in on your white horse and save him from the beast.

Puzzling fact really, why tents didn't all have transparent tops. Some had that mesh netting stuff, but that wouldn't protect you from the rain and cold.
"Vouldn't miss it!" Medea beamed, stepping away from the now snow free portion of the floor. She wasn't tracking in any more snow was she? There was some feet wiggling action just to make sure. Giggling quietly, she shrugged up her shoulders, hands half in the pockets of her comfy sweatpants. "That's vhy people sleep outside of their tent, Airey."

Resident Hogwarts Nancy Drew, y'know. Shaking her head, the blonde waved at the woman and greeted her cheerfully. "Hello Professor Romanos!" BEAM.
Pulling off her gloves and rubbing her hands together, her gaze moved around the two rooms. Oh yes, she already noted the tea and ice cream, which she'd be having as sooooon as she got over there. The maze of students was her first obstacle. "Good evening, Miss Bishop." Medea smiled to the fifth year, starting through the maze of kids.
Not stepping on any toes was she?

Taking a peak at a few notes as she walked by, she turned her gaze up to they sky, surprised at how clear they could see it through this...bubble. Oh. "Hello, Miss Castell." she whispered, smiling at the Ravenclaw prefect before hopping over someone's foot. Her mission to the refreshments table was yet to be completed!

Oh, here was Mister Happy!
"Good evening, Mister Stonewall." she grinned, even wiggling her fingers in the seventh year's direction as she passed by. Holding onto her gloves, she hopped over a few more feet and moved around a few more students before finally making it to the other room.
Teeeaaa! ICE CREEEEAAAAM!

Putting her gloves on the table, Medea helped herself to some waaaarm tea first, eyeing the ice cream. Should she try the whole ice cream and tea mixture? Tea and milk was usually good. Tea and cream. Ice cream had the word cream in it. It also had milk. It was starting to make a lot of sense to her now.
Oh, Airey was having an episode. Goodness, how did she miss that adorable kneazle of Alexa's?!
Sipping her tea, staring at the commotion over the top of her cup, her eyebrows raised at the mention of her name. What? Oh. Ahem. RIGHT! Right, she should...right. The kneazle. "I'll take excellent care of him, Miss Cambridge." she said softly, eyeing the cat more than the Gryffindor while putting her tea down. The cat wasn't a scratch-er, was he?
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Lex reached into her bag for her parchment and quill.. Now that she'd found some of the constellations she'd be watching it was time to get tracking. Something told her this would take a while--
What the kneazle?
O_____O
Bliiiiiiink. Lex just sat there STARING at the Professor who was all but through the wall of the tent in...fright maybe? She didn't even KNOW. How very odd and silly of him. And what was he asking about? Her curious gaze settled on him as he made his way toward her.
Oh. He meant Felix.
But...but...she always took Felix with her to get her homework done. Homework usually dragged on unless she had company and at the moment she didn't have anyone else to watch the stars with. Still, she wouldn't go arguing with the Professor. That wouldn't have made things any better. "Sorry Professor." She muttered in apology and waited for the kneazle to be taken away. Hopefully he would stay in the dorm, she really didn't want some first year crying about a kneazle eating their owl. At any rate Professor Romanos seemed to have everything under control. Felix wasn't complaining. She gave the woman a small smile.
Back to the sky then? Aw man, she'd lost the constellations. Back to looking again then. This seemed to take twice as long but finally she found them.
And watched, quill and parchment ready.

Oh, was she trying to beat him with logic? Cute, Medea. "Yes, but one can hardly sleep outside in the middle of winter," he pointed out.
Not to mention there had been a horrible chill coming from the Forbidden Forest on his way down. Took some of the cheer right out of his step. That is until he got inside and had some ice cream. Then all was fine and well.
SPOILER!!: our, er, princess in shining armor & Alexa ^^

Airey probably would have been clinging to Medea's leg with glee for her rescue had it not been for the fuzzy creature she was now holding. "Thank you, Medea," he man!squeaked as he unstuck himself from the wall of the tent. He did have a bit of a mark on his cheek, however, since he had been pressing up against it so hard.
His eyes were then on Miss Cambridge and he was SO glad that she did not fight him on this one. "Apology accepted, Miss Cambridge," he said while adjusting his flannel tie and trying to compose himself. Just not gonna look Medea's way...which was unexpectedly rather difficult. "Keep up the good work and help yourself to the ice cream."
