She was back! And...Alec should be right behind her, yeah? She had been walking a bit fast but it was only cause the sooner this class was over, the sooner ice cream happened. No offense, Airey, but ice cream was calling her name.

"Here you are, Sir!" She announced with a smile, handing in her parchment and setting the sextant down too.

"That was a fun assignment." Plus it let them get some exercise which was always nice. Hey, could she use this as part of her DADA homeowork too? Were Airey and Professor working together on this? BROWS.

The blonde then took her seat and watched the door cause boyyyyfriend, where are you?

Princesspower 07-06-2013 09:45 PM

very late... but leaving post

She had to run quick. She grabbed her sextant yet stopped right by the door way. Where should she go? Stay on the floor, trying to look out the window or something. Having to have a partner sort of ruined any thoughts of going outside. That just meant that she would stay indoors, rather then burden someone with her. Also going alone meant that she can go at her own pace and such.

She would start with the seventh floor.. the least she had to run the better

Expecto-Penguin 07-06-2013 10:38 PM

Kace finally made his way back to the classroom. He sat down first and caught his breath. Then he fished in his backpack for his parchment and then showed it to the Professor. He walked up to the front to hand it in. "Here you go Professor!" he said handing it to him.

Once he handed it in, he smiled to the Profesor, "Great activity Professor! I enjoyed exploring the castle. I had a lot of fun!" he beamed at him.

hermionesclone 07-06-2013 10:39 PM

For someone who was nearly half a foot shorter than him, Ella sure did know how to put him through his paces by rushing to class and leaving him to trail behind. Although, it might have been his fault too; he shouldn't have been so busy staring at the door that led to the Kitchens and fighting the urge to get a bowl of ice cream.

Alec rushed into the classroom and took a deep breath before heading over towards the Professor. "I can see why you asked us to wear comfortable shoes, Professor," Really. That was a lot of rushing around. "And here you go!" He handed him his parchment and the sextant object which, funnily enough, didn't seem too bad to him now.

He grinned at the Professor before moving away to sit down. Okay... when was it ice cream time?

Warmth back in the classroom at last. This made Nessie smile wide and happily. Being outside was not fun, but what needed to be done needed to be done and she coped so it was okay.

Placing her parchment on her desk, Ness checked it was correct as well as added a few more things and eventually she handed her degrees and latitudes over to the Professor.

"There you go, Professor." She murmured.

Was this it for the lesson then?

DuckyLinJi 07-06-2013 11:30 PM

Entering the classroom again, the Slytherin yawned loudly and rubbed his tired eyes. The little nap at the grounds hadn't done him good but whatever, he wanted to sleep so badly. He shuffled through the room with a lazy expression and when he stood in front of the Professor he swayed back and forth a little.

.....he was supposed to give him something right? His tired brain tried to work out what it was and it looked like he had gotten a shock when he remembered again. Grabbing his notes with the degrees and latitudes written on them, he handed the Professor his papers before walking back to his desk.

Hmmmm....sleepy...he layed his head on the desk with a sigh and closed his eyes again.

So he had to go and do this thing then. Apparently not with the girlfriend, she was off before West could suggest it. Okay then. He didn't want to be looked after by her anyways. Pshh nopes. West didn't need supervision.

He grabbed his things and headed out.

StarShine 07-07-2013 12:07 AM

So, Forrest made it somewhat lazily to the class after he was done. He was still very happy, actually, because see it had been his FIRST try after he had performed it at class there and VOILÀ! He flashed a big beam at professor and wrote his calculations neatly again.

"Here it is, sir!"

Post 2. (because QUIDDITCH)

Okay, so he'd FOUND Polaris....They'd been so focused on finding it lately, that it wasn't difficult at all. All he had to do was point out Draco...and look a little to the left. and down just a smidgen. Yep...as Dylan continued to look up, he fumbled with the sextant.

Meh.

He knew nothing about this contraption.

The Slytherin figured he could fake it, though...How had Professor Flamsteed worked this thing? He'd lifted it up, and looked out towards the horizon. That was right, yes? Then he'd pressed the clamp...and waited for polaris to match up with the skyline...

It took several moments, in which he'd thought he was doing it wrong...but when it finally came into view with the sextant, Dylan released the clamp, stopping it from moving any further. So, he was doing it right...And then he was moving it side to side to make sure everything was lining up and all that. Seemed right....Polaris was giving him a hard time....looking through this time....but then he remembered that magical interference stuff and sighed. Right...It would be off.

Eyeing the numbers on the dial bit, he made a face. There was no way that could be right. 72 degrees....

Um...

Okay.

SPOILER!!: Parchment
Latitude = 90 degrees - sextant angle
Latitude = 90 - 72
Latitude = 18

After jotting that down, he went about gathering his things and leaving the room. They were meant to do this all over the castle. So...He'd be finding West Odessa. Yep. That was his plan.

Oh yeah. And his hand up.

"Professor? Are all the measurements so different on account of Hogwarts being unplottable?" Had Flammy said anything about that? West didn't know. He'd not heard anything, so that was why he was asking.

He yawned again quietly.

Dylan was back...and totally finished. It had been time consuming...and his body hurt from running around...and his eyes felt REALLY itchy and irritated. He was done, though. D. O. N. E.

With great care, the Slytherin set the sextant back down on the Professor's desk...because he didn't know what else he was meant to do with it...and retook his seat.

Sky was back. But, she wasn't entirely happy with her work. Because math. Math really sucked. So, she wasn't really sure that her calculations were correct. But at least she'd tried, right? That had to count for something. Or at least, she hoped it did. She ploped the sextant on Professor Airey's desk along with her parchment and took her seat again. Woot.

Mo only had to come up the stairs from the sixth floor and then climb to the Astronomy tower, but he was all colors of exhausted as he fell into his seat again after returning the sextant to Flamsteed's desk. The parchment was as tidy as possible, although it looked a bit hodge-podge to Mo's perfectionist eye.

Parading back into the classroom and finding her seat, hopefully not having lost baby cacti who she was meant to be babysitting and accompanying because it was so dangerous at this time of night, Alice entered the classroom. Sextant brandishing was still happening, too. It felt like a weapon. Really. It did.

She didn't give it any swings inside the classroom, though, because if Aireyhead saw, he'd probably take points for 'misusing celestial equipment that was nearly as precious as suits and pet rocks and lint rollers, MISS FISCHER MAN!GASP'.

Alice was tired. Like really tired. That was a lot of walking, Mo should have carried her or something.

Airey smiled at and collected all of the parchements as students came back to the classroom. "Job well done," he said to each of them, offering a salute and a wink to them as they did. He stacked the parchments up neatly on his desk and continued to drum on his legs - occasionally the desk as well - while he waited. Checking his sundial watch once again, he saw that it was just about time to call it a night.

Hands went down on either side of Mr. Katharos' sleeping self. Poor kid must have been tired out from all the running. He wouldn't punish him for that. It was late and all that sudden exercise could tire someone out.

Glad that Mr. Odessa had seemed to have gotten his focus back, Airey's brow furrowed a bit at the boy's question. Late AND not paying attention to the lesson? Perhaps he should suggest that he go see the Healer? "Precisely, just as I said before you all began to practice." Small squinted look towards the boy for a moment.

"I do," he nodded as he moonwalked his way over to his desk and ducked down behind it, reappearing again moments later with a large vial. "One drop in each eye should do the trick."

Checking his sundial once more, he cleared his throat and then sent his roadrunner patronos to search the castle and the grounds to call back any students that may still be wandering.

Waiting a few minutes while everyone filtered back into the classroom, Airey returned to the front of the room. "Fantastic job everyone," he applauded. "Make sure you all have cast Finite on your eyes to remove the effects of the charm. I have eye drops up here for those of you feeling the strain on your eyes to be uncomfortable. Please return your sextants to this box and make sure your parchment is turned in. Once you have done so you are free to go. Homework will be posted on the Astronomy announcement board later, so be sure not to miss it."

In other words, unless there were any questions, CLASS DISMISSED!
OOC: I will leave this lesson thread open a little longer for any last minute questions. You CAN still post your character finishing up the activity if you were unable to complete it before the deadline. Simply RP your character returning to the classroom having been instructed to do so by Professor Flamsteed's patronus along with links to what you have done. Partially completed work will be accepted. Please DO keep in mind that completely the assignment in its entirety now WILL NOT earn you full participation points. But hey, better some than none, right? :D

Hmmm...cozy desk.... Daichi was sure he could fall asleep right here and rignt now. He would have if the SOMEONE hadn't SLAMMED the desk near his ears so LOUDLY! The Prefect jumped awake with a loud yelp , his knees hit the bottom of the desk so hard that he yelped again but more in shock than in pain.

"WAAAH, SORRY DAD!" .............................

*BIG EYED STAAAAAAAAAARE*

Had he just...?!

Rubbing his eyes, the tired Slytherin looked away quickly to hide his embarrassing blush and he hoped no one had heard that. MEEEEEP please let no one have heard that despite the shouting. He scrambled up in a hurry to leave the classroom now...like really quickly before he embarrassed himself even more!

He rushed over to the box placed the sextant inside before he eyed the eyedrops for a second and turned around to his desk. He would just...sleep his sore eyes off...yeah... Grabbing his school bag, he quickly hoisted it over his shoulder and without saying anything he QUICKLY hurried out of the classroom.

GAAAAAH EMBARRASSING!

StarShine 07-07-2013 10:12 AM

So Forrest had to return the sextant back? He looked at it lovingly. He didn't really want to, but of course school was out of money. He made a face, but got up nevertheless, because he didn't want Professor Flamsteed to be angry at him. Dropping the sextant in the box, he suddenly grinned to himself. His didn't even hurt, see? So that meant he had performed the spell PERFECTLY? Sure it did! His grin got wider, "Have a nice evening Professor!" he said cheerfully and he started skipping to Hufflepuff Common Room.

After Kace handed in his parchment, he realized his eyes were starting to hurt. He realized there were eye drops in the front. He went up to the room and got some and....

Drip.....Drip....Drip....Drip....

Into both of his eyes. Aaaaahhhh that felt much better. Once he was done with the eye drops and handed in his sextant, he realized he was done with the lesson. Awww mann he didn't want it to end!

He got his stuff and slung his bag over his shoulder and waved goodbye to the Professor. "Thanks for an amazing lesson Professor. Have a good evening." he smiled cutely.

Then he left the classroom, ready to go eat some dinner.

sweetpinkpixie 07-08-2013 12:43 AM

Dad? Airey suddenly felt the urge to plank again, but was able to restrain himself for the time being. "Try to get some sleep in your common room, Mr. Katharos. Preferably in your bed."

Accepting the remaining parchments and setting them on his desk along with the others, he waved his students off as they left the classroom. When the final student had left, he took the parchments in his arms and left the classroom himself. Making sure to lock it, he felt the desire to eat more ice cream. Time to skip off to the kitchens and replenish his stash!
