Arithmancy Two (Music & Tessellations) ARITHMANCY LESSON TWO Propping open the door to the classroom on the second floor, Josephina then returned to her desk to await the arrival of the students. But instead of reading Arithmancy Today or some other text on the numbers subject, the brunette found herself pulling out a small tub of ice cream and spooned some into a bowl. Pre-lesson treats were allowed, right? Hopefully because even if they weren't she was having some anyway cause she just couldn't resist .... "G'Morning," she greeted cheerfully through a mouthful of ice cream, grinning as the students entered and took their seats. Lesson Progression |
Hungry Ella was hungry. Hungry for ice cream, specifically. This was a usual thing these days and just getting through class was a struggle seeing as her common room was so close to the delicious treat and all she wanted to do was go and get some. This class wouldn't be too long, right? RIGHT? "Hello Professor Hadley!" ...O___O ICE CREAM. The woman...was eating ice cream? Ella just stared and BEAMED and her stomach grumbled a bit cause she wanted some too. "Are we talking about ice cream today, Professor?" BOUNCE! And more importantly, were they allowed to eat it in class? Important questions, these were. Flopping down towards the front, the blonde took out her notes and such and watched jealously as her Head of House ate her ice cream. Le sigh. Why couldn't she have some too? |
With every flight of stairs that she descended she was more and more aware of the fact that she was about to be surrounded by numbers. The thought was enough to have her twitching but at no point did she stop walking. She knew that once she did, it would be all over and there would be nothing she could do to convince her legs to keep going. Finally, with one final shove, she found herself in the Arithmancy classroom-- jbvkfjgkxg "Are we having ice-cream today Professor???" Bouncing, she was bouncing and staring at the woman's bowl of ice-cream as if there was gold lodged in there or something. "Also. Hello!!" BEAM. But seriously...she was eyeing the ice-cream. A lot of teachers had been taking ice-cream to class but none of them had ever brought any for them. Selfish, that's what they were and of course she was eagerly awaiting a response on that ice-cream thing. "Hey Ella!" Because she saw her too. |
ARITHMANCY!!!! The fifteen year old (Sarah still thought herself fourteen, she had only been fifteen for a month) was excited. In mugge school she was told that she had a mathematical brain... and if she would concentrate a tiny bit more she would not make silly mistake. Easier said then done though, as she always had a lot going through her mind. "Hi Professor!" Sarah exclaimed... maths.maths.maths... well it was not maths yet it was still maths related. She loved numbers and words. Ice cream? Awesome.. She knew that it would be a waste of food, yet it would be awesome to have an icecream fight. Maybe the teacher was intergrating ice cream into the lesson? If the teacher had different flavours, maybe your favourite ice cream flavour determined something, or you had to work something out based on your ice cream flavour? "Hey Ella" Sarah greeted the puff. Then noticing that Ella had her notes out... Sarah thought she ought to do the same... talk about positive peer pressure. Sarah took a seat, and was about to look over some notes when she noticed Alexa as well. "Hi Lex! Is this your favourite year- with all the free ice cream" and the healthhy food was expensive. Sarah yawned.. it was strange, she had enough hours of sleep last night yet she was tired and kept on yawning. Maybe her mother was right about the importance of Iron. |
Nigel was up for doing some arithmetic as he walked into Arithmancy. He was just in need of a challenge. Great another Professor eating ice cream. Nigel was more in the mood for a cupcake. "Hello, Professor Hadley. You look lovely as always" Smirk. He took an open seat not caring where. If Astro was any indication. This would be an interesting lesson. |
Laaaaaaalala. Tobias' head was kind of sort of in the clouds today except not really 'cause that would have been really wet and really cold. And visibility wouldn't be very good. No, the point was that this usually bouncy!puff was less energetic and hyper than usual, and his attention was already wandering and he hadn't even sat down. Still, Tobias was still happy as he always was. "Hi," he greeted the Professor in his seldom used indoor-voice before moseying over and taking a seat close to a window, still happily daydreaming. |
Laura walked into the classroom and then smiled at the Professor. "Good day," Laura was going to enjoy this lesson. "I hope you are well today?" Laura had eaten her usual ice-cream before class to get her brain into gear, she went over and took a seat, then she took out all her equipment so she was ready to start, saying that she was really eager to start this lesson she wanted to learn something new. |
Arithmancy! He was very excited for this class! And after last lesson, he had come prepared, too! Or, had made sure to prepare for this class by eating a big bowl of ice cream. It would help with any confusing aspects, yeah? YEAH. Alec stole a glance at his watch as he continued walking down the corridor towards the classroom. Awesome! He was sort of early. He headed in through the door after Laura and looked up and over at- HADLEY WAS EATING ICE CREAM! GRIN GRIN GRIN. "Hello Professor!" he said, giving her a very enthusiastic wave, "Enjoying your ice cream?" Also, what flavour was it? Did she have any toppings? What about a sweet sauce? There was always that raspberry one that Candy Girl had found the other day. That ice cream and raspberry sauce combination was... well... it was a GENIUS idea! And... he wanted some more. Shaking his head, the sixteen year old gave Hadley another grin before heading over towards an empty seat near the front of the classroom, grinning at people as he went. He sat down and took out his things from his bag before letting his bag drop under his desk. There. He was ready and... slightly hungry. |
She had rested very very well. Because numbers kinda hurt her head. She couldn't be the only one, right? Well, she couldn't help it. But it was a good thing she didn't drop it and kept showing up,no? She knew she'd need it in her future life. Not that she'd mind not needing it. But just in case she would, here she was entering the classroom. "Good morning Professor," Cassia said with a smile. It wasn't the woman's fault that numbers gave her a headache. She turned and went to choose a seat. Smiles on the way to people she knew and others. Her head was fine now. |

"Actually .... yes........." Fina said thoughtfully. "I suppose we can have ice cream today!" Good reward for correct answers and awesome arithmancy students, no? Of course it was! "Have you tried chocolate frogs in ice cream before?" Cause totally awesome it was. Quote:

Spoonful of ice cream needed. "Hi Nigel. Er... thank you..." You too? No, that would be more wrong. Excessive ice cream eater or not, she at least still knew that fine line. Quote:

"Hi, Professor,'' Jory greeted his ice cream eating Head of House. "Hope you're well.'' He eyed her ice cream container with a grin. "Are you sharing?'' Because he would love to have some! Yup! The Puffer hurried off to take a seat. |
Quote:
Wait what. "That's okay, Professor. I still had fun," he nodded and flashed a big GRIN as he swung his legs gently under the desk where he sat. "It's kinda sad that you couldn't make it... but I'm super glad you enjoyed hearing it though!" Bright side. Always a bright side. |
Daichi was literally skipping two stairs at the time after he had left the common room and skipped to the next lesson. He had checked his schedule in his pocket quickly and found out that it was Arithmancy. ONLY TWO FLOORS YAY~ Reaching the classroom, the Prefect opened the door with a briiiiiight smile ..........................WASTHATICECREAM?! *STAAAAAAAAAAARE* And then he heard Jory's question. WAS she sharing? GOOD QUESTION MAN! GOOD QUESTION! |
Another lesson of Arithmancy. Renesmee was quite sure to go over her notes before this one. Kurumi had given her the tip of going over notes before class once and she now decided to try stick with it, considering her last examinations were on their way. Entering the classroom neat and tidy, Nessie gave one of her favorite Professor's a smile. Hadley had really been with her through all these years. She was special. "Morning, Professor!" That was apparently eating ice-cream. Seriously this school had gone ice cream crazy. But Nessie had to admit she was kind of in the mood of some chocolate frog ice cream now, that was her ABSOLUTE favorite. Maybe later, cause now she had a lesson. As for seats she wanted to sit in the front, which she did not too far from Alec and Ella. Eyes on those two...but with a smile. Heh. |
It was time for Arithmancy and numbers...Dylan sighed as he entered the classroom, immediately giving everyone eyes. He...smelled....ice cream.... STARE. Not Professor Hadley, too!! She was supposed to be the no-nonsense one. UGH. The Slytherin was so OVER ice cream. It was everyone. What even... "Good morning, Professor." His lips were set in a hard line as he moved to take a set. He was so terribly unimpressed with the ice cream craze. It was turning everyone's brain to mush this term...and there was no time for that. What happened to focusing on academics? |
Another class meant more homework, and Asher didn't care much for homework. However, this class was taught by his Head of House, so he had to look smart and actually do the work. "Good day, Professor!" He said as he entered the room. He saw her giant bowl of ice cream and his mouth started watering. "Mmmm, looks good." The sweet smell filled his nostrils and his stomach started growling. Hoping that the Professor might share, Asher took a seat towards the front. Better ice cream sharing position. |
Oakey walked into the class and instantly a sour lemon glare fell on his face at the bowl of Ice Cream Professor Hadley was eating. He had it up to here with that soft dessert. Had he not just spoken to Hadley about keeping an eye on the intake of soft foods. Okay well more just for Quidditch, but now he was fed up with all of this. So he came in "Professor." Oakey said giving her a a nod, then found a seat away from the front. which was not a typical Oakey thing to do in Arithmancy. |

Penelope was pretty sure she smelled something food-like as she entered the Arithmancy classroom, and her food instincts were confirmed when she spotted the ice cream. Oh yeah, she was good. "Hey, Professor," she greeted. "We're gonna get some of that too right?" Because it wasn't fair to eat in front of them and not share, y'know? She took a seat, not in the VERY front, but just a row behind it. This seemed like a good spot. |

"You mean it????" Alexa was at the peak of her energetic bouncing after hearing that. Ice-cream, they could have some!!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeppppp!!! SHE LOVED ARITHMANCY!!! It was the only class that had a Professor committing to sharing ice-cream with them. "THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Do we get it noooow??? Or...or...or like after--either's fine so long as we get it! Do you have chocolate flavoured? Did you bring syrup? Sprinkles? Nuts?--I can run down to the kitchens and get some, it won't take any time at all, honest!!!!" BOUNCE. BOUNCE. BOUNCE. |

"Mr Gunter." She said simply, giving him a wide grin and nod in return. Quote:

"Afterwards...." Nod, nod. "I have some toppings yes, but I wouldn't worry about that right now. Cause we're starting..." So like, focus now on numbers. Sweets later. "So many of you know by now that I'm rather fond of art. Now this might seem surprising, being that I teach numbers, but the two actually have quite a bit in common." A moments pause and Hadley flicked her wand pinning a sketch of a mosaic pattern of triangles and squares on the board. "Often seen in floor and wall tiles, this is an example of a tessellation. Which can be either regular or irregular. The arithmatic part of tessellations comes from principles that you can use to create a tessellation, one example being a translation. What other ways can you create a tessellation?" ooc: so there's a chance i might not get to post again till tomorrow afternoon  cause we fail at planning and whatnot. Sorry =(. |
Prefect Katharos ....that made him giggle like a little school boy. \'Cause it had been a while that someone called him PREFECT Katharos~! Yup yup. He was a little sad though that she hadn\'t given him any ice cream. And he had even been staring! So with a soft sigh, he sat down at a desk and listened to the professor when she officially started the class. Art...she was in to art? Well, he hadn\'t known that! It WAS interesting to learn new things from people right? Either way, he totally knew what she was talking about. It were those pictures that seemed to go on and on and.. on with the same shape but totally looked cool. Alright bad explanation but HE KNEW what he meant in his head so it was alright. "There\'s a rotation tessellation!" he answered immediately after raising his hand. "Its a tessellation where the shapes rotates and seem to turn" If his answer was right, could he have some of that ice cream , cause he was STILL staring at it. |
So they were talking about tessellation. Nigel had only glimpse what it was in a book he read. But most of it was still a mystery. What she was saying was helping. But he really knew only one thing was tessellation. "Well in nature, a honeycomb is the perfect example of tessellation." Nigel would like to see some form of art. It would be a nice change of pace. |
ICE CREAM! Ella was beaming. Did Hadley see the excitement on her face because yeah, she was really jazzed about this whole maybe getting ice cream thing. She even had gummy worms tucked into her bag to make it a proper Ella-ice cream. BEAM! Anyway, art? They were talking about art today? The blonde smiled a little and tilted her head, listening carefully and trying not to be too distracted by the ice cream. It was hard work, though. Just saying. Tessellations were so COOL looking. Ella liked all the different shapes and colors she\'d seen in some that she knew of. It made for cool designs and such. As for ways to make them, Ella raised her hand. "Reflections, Professor! That\'s when you flip a shape, commonly to the left or right." |
"Professor, would a jigsaw puzzle be a tessellation?" Asher thought about the puzzles he used to put together with his Muggle grandmother. It was always so much fun seeing the still pictures come out when the little pieces were put together. |
