The classroom was exactly the way it always had been; desks and chairs laid out in parallel rows, the small dais upon which the professor's big desk sat. The rectangular blackboard fixed to the wall over the dais. The only difference in the class, for the hawk-eyed students only, would be the lack of any Gandr baskets near the desk. The lack of anything interesting, really. However, the desks were freshly clean, and so was the floor and the whole room. The professor should be seated at his desk, reading, when the students show up. He'd greet and nod at them as they filed in.
Enter the room, take a seat, follow the instructions on the blackboard, then wait for the class to start.

Wade's brows furrowed again in thought.Well, it does say concentrate on meaning too.. Okay.. He closed his eyes as he thought, Laguz.. the water.. the lake.. ocean.. Envisioning the great waves in the ocean where he last surfed. He waited until he could practically hear the flow of water in his ears before he began again.
Aiming his wand at the wood once again, Wade continued, "Intaglio Laguz..Laguz..Laguz..Laguz.." He could feel the warm feeling as he continued carving upward slowly, but not forgetting the feeling of the water as he finished the line, "Laguz..Laguz..Laguz..Laguz..Laguz..Laguz..Laguz.."
Once Wade reaching the tip top point of the vertical line, he began carving diagonally downward on the right side. "Laguz..Laguz..Laguz..Laguz.." Until finally ending it halfway, he finished. Wade then removed his googles upward to sit over his hair as looked down at the somewhat glowing Laguz rune, that resembled a very sharp hook. Very cool.. He was happy to have completed it.

Minerva listened to the instructions. So they were carving on their desks. She looked at the desk, wasn't that vandalizing or something. They seriously had nothing else to use, so they were actually going to use the desk. Well they could probably do a spell and put the desk back to normal, so maybe it wasn't to bad.
Trying to shrug it off Minerva opened her book to see which rune she wanted to use. Flipping through the runes she landed on Raido. That one seemed like a pretty good one to pick so why not. Closing her book now that was decided she could move on to the next step.
Looking at the board she noticed the spell, saying it in her head a few times she wanted to make sure it was correct. Looking to pick up the goggles, she noticed someone else was using them. Well this was icky, she had to wait..

Whoa, they were learning the whole alphabet today? That was pretty ambitious of the professor, considering how... very much Mo didn't want to be sitting in his seat today. Not to mention the fact that his classmates seemed just as eager for a run around the lake. Or maybe he was projecting?
He slid on the gloves and goggles, eying his desk mate with a side glance before turning his attention back to the piece of wood in front of him. Firsties, mmk? Then someone else could take a turn.
How did that incantation go? Intaglio Intaglio In-taaaaag-leeee-oh. And which rune should he try? Oh, of course! Mo pointed his wand at the wood, "Intaglio Gebo Gebo Gebo." Hehe... where was Anya, anyway?

Still practicing the spell Intaglio....Intaglio Minerva waited for the goggles and the gloves. She took out her quill and wrote down the words that she wanted to say Intaglio Raido... Intaglio Raido over and over again she wrote it and practiced saying it.
Finally it was time for her to use the goggles. Slipping them on Minerva went to get the gloves, but they weren't there. Was someone using the gloves but not goggles. Well maybe she could just use the goggles. Looking at the desk she pulled her wand out.
Pointing it Minerva sighed and put it down, the directions were to use gloves as well she would just have to wait, but as if she had to stop for another reason she remembered that she needed to know the meaning of raido as she did the spell.
Flipping back through her books she wrote on her parchment Raido= Journey. There now she could concentrate on both the word and the meaning when she actually found the gloves to do the carving.

Practice came first, always.
As soon as the professor let them start working, Alice began saying the spell. It wasn't as if she had to look up a rune to carve first or anything, seeing as she already knew which she'd be using. Clearly. There was only one she liked best, above all others still, and it hadn't changed since last term. "In-tag-lee-oh. In-tag-lee-oh. Intaglio." Did that sound about right? She tried to mimic the way Botros had said it, moving her lips in the same shape and making sure it sounded exactly right before continuing.
What next, carving? Wand out now?

Laura was waiting for the gloves and goggles and so she was still practicing the spell. "Intaglio." Laura was sure she had the spell down now which was great. "Intaglio" Laura just wanted to confirm she was right in saying she knew what the spell did and she was, okay so now she had to figure out what was going on next.
Laura smiled when she could finally use the gloves and the goggles, she thought this was awesome and she was going to do her best, putting them on she decided she would decided which rune to use, she searched through her book and smiled. "wunjō!" Laura thought that sounded cool and meant joy, so she decided on that one next it was time to put them together "Intaglio wunjō!" Laura said, okay so that was right, "Intaglio wunjō" Cool this was awesome now all she had to do was use her wand, this was going to be fun.

West knewww this spell. That was good right? Made life easier? Yes. So practicing wasn't really necessary except in order to show off to Botros that actually he SHOULDABEENTOPOFTHECLASSLASTTERMOKAY? Just saying. Or not saying. Thinking. Just thinking. He watched the professor for a moment before putting his OWN gloves on (just so he didn't have to share) and some goggles.
... which maybe he better buy himself some next summer since he had to use them in so many subjects now?
"Intaglio." He said needlessly practicing. "In-taaaaah-liiiiiiooooooo." A few more times with the silent G of course. "Intaglio."
Oh and a point of the wand too. Just to... y'know, practice that too.

Laura smiled, she was sure she had this down, she practiced the wand movement quickly and smiled, she knew how to do that as well, who knew learning Ancient Runes could actually be so much fun, she was actually starting to enjoy herself.
Laura smiled as she pointed her wand at the desk, she made sure her goggles and gloves were on properly before she start. "Intaglio wunjō!" Laura said and smiled as the rune started to be calved into the desk, would it stay there for ever or disappear that was the question, she continued to do the spell as the rune got calved in once it was finished she looked at it.
"Professor how long does this last?" Laura looked at her desk, she had done it she had actually done something right in Ancient Runes.
So now they were supposed to already know the runes and learn how on Earth to carve them? Oh this was definitely going to be an interesting activity... so what was the incantation again?
Thinking for a few minutes Kahlan finally managed to remember what it sounded like with a little help from listening to the people that were saying the thing around her and repeated the incantation in her head a few times before deciding to try it out loud.
"Intaglio... Intaglio... Intaglio..." she repeated, her nose scrunched at how weird it actually seemed to come out...

Wand out, Alice began preparing herself before she began on the spell. Did she need preparation? Her intent's presence seemed fairly strong to her or something. How did one even measure the strength of their intent? Either way, strong intent or not, she was starting. "Intaglio Uruz Uruz Uruz Uruz Uruz.." She kept repeating the word until she was finished carving. And there it was, etched into her desk and everything, but not perfect, and she wanted it to be perfect. It looked.. shaky. Wavering even.
Had her intent not been 'present' enough for it?
She gave the carving looks. Her intent was FINE, thank you.

Oichi listened as the professor gave instruction. However upon hearing that she could use any rune to carve she had no idea which rune to choose. All of them had unique qualities, however she did know she did not want to choose a ruin with a merkstave, that could get complicated. As she pondered she realized she was gonna have plenty of time before she even got the tools to start. She sighed as she wrote down 'intaglio' and looked over her runes book some more.

And because he was awesome at things and obviously (as the professor very well knew) was especially a Kenaz expert, West went ahead and carved that one first. It wasn't hard to focus even though there were reasons and all, but instead he was all about Runes. Because he wanted to be top like he should be. Because obviously he was top of all the things.
He knewww what it was!
West shot a wise look at Botros. Yes. Obviously the elderly professor didn't want to show favouritism, that was it. Since they'd faced death together and everything.
Thus having decided, West focused on his bit of wood, and on the fiery beacony power of Kenaz.
"Intaglio Kenaz Kenaz Kenaz Kenaz!!" Because... Kenaz wasn't that hard to carve, it only took few times see? Two strokes and he had a perfect Kenaz. And look at that glow. Did Botros SEE the glow? That rune was INVOKED y'all.

"Intaglio... In-tag-lee-oh... Intaglio..." The incantation was easy. Really. And it was, gladly, not a tongue twister like some spells. *cough* Trimming Charm *cough*. Those were the kind of spells Kat hated, tongue twisters. If this spell was one, she would have taken a little longer than now. Lucky... phew. She didn't need to practice the wand movement because... yes, it was easy. Just a point at where you want the rune to be carved. There was actually no need for that, mhm.
So maybe she can just think of what rune to carve on her desk, yeah? She didn't want to just pick a random rune because that would be pointless. She wanted it to have some sort of meaning.
Flipping through the pages of her book, Kat looked for a rune. Yep. Flip flip flip. Kenaz? Yeah, that could be... but Professor Botros had used it already. Laguz? LOL. What did the water have to do with her? Then she saw Sowilo... HMMM. Success... honour... and those stuff Kat wanted. FIRE. She was speaking Lafay's language yo.
YEAH she wanted Sowilo, k?

So having practiced saying the incantation the blonde found herself flicking through the textbook trying to find the meanings of the certain runes, something that she'd actually want to carve.
Which she by now figured that she probably should've done first because now she really just wanted to try the incantation.
Finally, she found one that she liked, nodding as she looked at the rune Eihwaz, which looked relatively simple to cast without a spell so she was hoping it would be easy with the spell too!

Pulling her gloves tighter against her hands, Alice reached for her wand again and began chanting the incantation again, more clearly this time, and with stronger intent present. Or something. Whatever it was, she hoped it was better than her first attempt at the rune carving. "Intaglio Uruz Uruz Uruz Uruz Uruz." She pulled her wand away when the last bit of the rune was etched into the wood, leaning closer to inspect it from different angles. The faint beating glow, that was there, too. Was it perfect yet?
Alice gave it another scrutinizing look before deciding it was acceptable enough and passing on her goggles and gloves to the next student. It was as near to perfect as she'd get, she supposed.

As usual Sarah had to start with the incantation. That was alway for her the trickiest part. "Intalgio" she tried. "Intagliiiio" she tried again, getting a bit stuck. She pictured thw word in front of her and said it again "Intaglio". She did it!
Now she had to repeat it and commit it to memory. She had down it before after all. "Intaglio. Intaglio . Intaglio ".
Now that she had that, all she needed to do now was a oick a rune.
Kimothée Chalamet • The UWU Agenda • Once Baby, Now Trouble • All Growed Up
Since she had already mastered the incantation and knew what Rune she wanted to use, Kat was definitely ready to start carving the Sowilo rune on her desk. The Slytherin closed her Ancient Runes book and kept it inside her slingbag before taking her wand out of her pocket. Okay, let's get this thing done with now. The wand movement was just a point right? At wherever you want the carve to be done. Easy. Kat pointed her wand on her desk, at the center because she wanted it there. She checked first if the angles were right, and that where she was pointing was at the center. Yes, she wanted it to be precise.
HMM. She closed one eye. Yeah, she could work with that.
"Intaglio Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo..." Kat started to cast the spell while maintaining the point of her wand. RIGHT AT THE MIDDLE. GUUH. "Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo..." She could see the carve on her desk now. She was doing it well. Inner!Grin. It was almost done. Kat can tell. "Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo." The Slytherin then stopped chanting when the rune was finally carved on her desk. YEAAAH... it was at the middle. A little bit of effort paid off. She didn't know if she could run a finger over it... but to be safe, she just waited for instructions. For the meantime, she would just admire the rune she had carved.

So West decided a bindrune was in order. Because he felt like it. Because.... well, he knew what he was doing so really practice was no thing. BUT THEN a thought came to him: if he was gonna do one, should he do each bit separate, and trace the individual runes and invoke them, or carve the whole thing and invoke them all at once? West mused on this for a moment, eyeing up the wood and then he put his hand up.
"Professor Botros, if I wanted to carve a bindrune with the Intaglio spell, say one that was Kenaz, Sowilo, and Isa, just to name three at random, would I do each component separately like Intaglio Kenaz Kenaz Kenaz, then Intaglio Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo, and Intaglio Isa Isa Isa, or would I do them all together like Intaglio Kenaz Sowilo Isa and repeat until I'm done?"

Now it was time to pick a rune. Sarah did not want to choose a rune that could be inverted. She did not want to plan for bad things to happen after all. Of course they happened, yet in Sarah's eyes everything was for the good and in the end it will be fine. (that it why she thought all books should have happy endings as in life there is always a happy ending). Yet she did not specifically desire it.
She looked through the runes. She was also looking out for a simple design, not something too complicated. Finally her eyes laid upon one. Gebo. It was just an X shaped and it had no interverted meanings.
She reached for her wand again.
Then she quickly put it away as well. She did not want to settle for only one rune, because if they had any powers it would be nice to get a whole bundle.
Othala looked nice - security and family, as did Ingwaz as Sarah wanted to grow taller. Being 5"2 was humiliating. Could she have four runes on hers? If yes then her fourth would be Sowilo. Brilliance

So, they had to share equipment. Jory didn't mind but all this was not Hogwarts was used to. He hoped everything would work out soon. He turned his attention to the activity. The had done this before, Jory was sure of it.
He decided to practice first before actually trying to carve a rune. "Intaglio...Intaglio...Intaglio...Intaglio...Intag lio,'' he repeated to himself. Right. He had that part. The Puff flipped his textbook to the page containing the runes to choose one to carve.
"Intaglio wunjō!" "Professor how long does this last?" Laura looked at her desk, she had done it she had actually done something right in Ancient Runes.
Botros was still pacing between desks, looking for those hogging the goggles and the gloved giving them a quick nudge with his cane. Most of the students seemed to get the hang of the spell which pleased him greatly. Then another kid had asked a question, Botros walked over to her and looked down at her desk. "Good job. The carving lasts as long as no one sabotages it. The energy, however, depends on how focused you were when you carved the rune. I wouldn't say it dies completely, but it fades away." Like everything good in this world, Botros thought.

Moving between desks again, leaning a bit on the shoulders on his way, Ab looked down at Odessa's desk first and let his hand rest on the boy's shoulder. Perfect work. Like father, like son, eh? He wanted to meet the boy's father, you rarely came across someone who enjoyed runes and passed on this affection to a younger kin. Ignoring that Isa was a contradiction to the other two runes (mostly Kenaz), Botros responded, "If you can focus on the binding power of all three runes, shaping it into one unite of magic energy, then you do them all together. I do not approve of separately invoking each rune, especially with this method, it's highly unreliable and could cause significant loss in energy of one of the runes. However, to make it easier for you to concentrate and summon the concept and energy of the bindrune, I suggest you use a quill and a parchment to draw it, stare at it for as long as you need to feel it, then start carving it." It wasn't easy, but not impossible either.
"I do not recommend binding opposite runes, though." He grinned, "It could be either useless or destructive." No good came from it. The boy probably knew that but it was for those who were listening and trying to learn more. "And there are some other measures to keep in mind when binding runes, so let's keep it one rune today." Again, he didn't want the overexcited students mimicking each other and... dying.

Oh there were the gloves, Minerva picked them up off the floor. Some how they must have fallen when she got the goggles, either that or she was still so sleepy that she just knocked them off and didn't realize.
Placing the gloves on and putting the goggles on her face she looked to the desk. Alright.. what was the wand movements again. She thought for a few moments.
Oh that was right.. Looking back at the wood she concentrated Raido's meaning was journey. Pointing her wand she thought hard about the rune and it's meaning. "Intaglio Raido..Raido.. Raido...Raido" She watched as it started carving into the wood. "Raido...Raido.. Raido" she continued until it lookd as if it was completely carved.
Holstering her wand she examined the carving to make sure it was correct, well it looked good to her so hopefully it would to the Professor as well.

Hearing this Sarah decided to stick to one. Gebo would be it. Maybe she could make more later.
She pointed her wand at the wood, 'Intaglio Gebo" she said thinking of the symbol and the meaning. "gebo, gebo, gebo" she repeated making the engraving deeper. "GEBO",
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Jory scanned his book, trying to decide which rune he would carve. "Hmmmm, I think I'll do Ansuz,'' he muttered. It meant a revealing message or insight. After collecting the gloves and goggles, he put them on. Time to get to work!
The Ansuz symbol was a simple one. Sort of like an F but the extension were bent downwards. Jory raised his wand and began to chant while carving. "Intaglio Ansuz Ansuz Ansuz Ansuz...'' And there it was! The Ansuz symbol carved into the wood!

Waiting for the groans or cheers to die down, Botros cleaned the blackboard with his cane and wrote the following.
"To carve the runes in order to use their energy and magic, we need to use this spell. That is one method of carving the runes right. Another method uses a special tool in addition to chanting the Galdr of the chosen rune, but that is not for today." Botros gestured for them to copy what was written on the board and explained further, "You need to remember to keep your intent strongly present in your mind when you use this spell. Concentrate on the meaning and the name of the rune you desire to carve, repeating it over and over until the shape of the rune is perfectly carved onto the surface." He bent down behind his desk where his chair was, and fished out a small box. "You're going to have to share some of the equipment today, I'm afraid. Share those goggles and gloves with the person sitting next to you before you carve any rune you want on your desk." He'd placed an extra wood plank on top of their desks before class, he didn't want them worrying about holding the wood piece while pointing their wand recklessly all around the place.
While the goggles and the gloves floated around the classroom, Botros held out a single circular wood piece. "Now watch me as I carve on this piece of wood." Paaaaaaaaaause.
The professor pointed his wand at the woody piece, raising it high for everyone to see, and said in a dramatic slow tone, "Intaglio Kenaz Kenaz Kenaz Kenaz...." On the previously blank wood piece a perfect shape of Kenaz was perfectly carved, giving a faint beating glow. "The incantation is easy, but still try it on your tongue a few times before practicing the spell on your desk. Choose any rune you like. And don't hesitate to ask questions if you need, we'll be needing this spell essentially when we go out in a bit." He beamed at them oh-so-mysteriously.

Apparently, they were going to tackle two things today. Learn how to carve runes into wood while preserving their magic and energy. Learn the Elder Futhark alphabet. Beezus even jotted those down on her piece of parchment. Alrighty then. She was up for that. The more the merrier, right?
Intaglio. That entry made it on the parchment too. It was the Rune Carving Spell which meant she had to learn it then and there.
Before practicing the spell, however, the brunette watched Professor Botros' demonstration first. He utilized that Kenaz rune, it seems. Hmm. Beezus took a quick glance on the blank piece of wood on her desk and looked up just in time to see the perfectly carved rune on the Professor's own wood. It was even glowing. She was confident that she'd be able to do something of the like. Yep. As long as she kept her intent present on her mind. But before that.....a bit of tongue work. "Intaglio. Intaglio. Intaglio." It wasn't difficult. "Intaglio." She repeated once more. Okay. Now she had to chose what rune she was going to carve on her wood.
