Default Ancient Runes Lesson I

The classroom was exactly the way it always had been; desks and chairs laid out in parallel rows, the small dais upon which the professor's big desk sat. The rectangular blackboard fixed to the wall over the dais. The only difference in the class, for the hawk-eyed students only, would be the lack of any Gandr baskets near the desk. The lack of anything interesting, really. However, the desks were freshly clean, and so was the floor and the whole room. The professor should be seated at his desk, reading, when the students show up. He'd greet and nod at them as they filed in.

Enter the room, take a seat, follow the instructions on the blackboard, then wait for the class to start.

It was a BIG shame if they weren't going to be doing Galdr again this term, and Mo kind of gave the floor around the professor's desk a glum look, like maybe a basket would spring up for him if he was sulky enough. No luck. Instead, there was an interesting sort of question. Mo listened to the answers, impressed that people weren't all wrapped up in Elder and Younger Futhark answers. Lots of good answers.

"Professor," Mo raised his hand finally. "Do you consider Old Italic scripts to be runes? I'm thinking specifically of Etruscan, but I think loads of runic scripts are derivations of the older Old Italic ones. So... it seems like they should qualify too."

The young girl sat still and listened to the teacher, but… She had really no idea what she needed to answer, she had heard about the Runic Alphabets but she never had really liked this subject so she had trouble to remember what she had heard. The only thing she knew was that it were some strange symbols with a meaning, but that was all she knew!

And because she didn’t knew the right answer, she stayed quiet and listened to what the others were saying and made a few notes. It didn't mattered that she was not so interested in this lesson, she needed to follow all the lessons if she wanted to go to the next year. She needed to do her best and this lesson was no exception!

"Good morning, Mr. McCarthy and congrtulations on your Prefect badge." Botros had lowered his reading glasses to get a good look at the new Ravenclaw Prefect, a soft smile on his face.

"Hello, mister." Smiling and nodding. He should stop reading now probably since the students were starting to arrive? Hmm.

"Good morning, dear!" He liked enthusiasm, specially this early in the morning. Botros closed his book and with his cane he got up and stepped down the small dais. "Congratulations on your badge." She was one of his hardworking students so, yeah, he let himself feel proud of her.

He nodded at the boy with an extra big smile to make up for the sour face the young one had on. Maybe he didn't like early classes?

"Hello, Miss Bishop. Great day so far, yes, thank you." The man placed both hands on the top of his cane and watched the students tap their parchments. Good kids.

So far.

"Good morning to you little lady." He gave her a small smile and watched her not drop her books as she made her way to a desk.

"Hello, dear. Welcome to class." He started pacing between the desks, making sure they were ALL clean. He worked really hard on cleaning this room last night. It was part of his job now - well, to him it was that way.

"Good morning, Mister. Welcome back." OH SEE? He remembered the boy from his classes last term. Pretty efficient this boy was, specially with a Gandr in hand.

Oh! He definitely remembered this kid, too. The loud one! He tried to match her beaming grin, overdoing it a bit. "Hello! Oh no, I'm afraid I did not do the cleaning with Gandrs." He laughed at the mere idea. "And no, we won't be needing a Gandr today. We're going to... learn something new." Not really new, but more wand magic, less runic magic.

"Mr. Gunter, hello!" Botros cane!walked to where the boy seated himself and gave him a gently smack on the back, "I'm so proud you got the Head Boy badge. Congratulations." And the cuss bar idea? That was genius, the boy had it in him. Yes, Botros had his spies, thank you very much, he knew super secret things not really.

"Hello, dear. I did have a good summer, thank you. I hope you did too." Botros gave her the same soft smile and watched her head for her desk.

"Good morning! I've been good, yes, thank you." He watched her hesitate slightly in choosing a desk before finally settling down next to the Prefect.

... a silent one? nahhh. Botros offered the boy a big wrinkly smile and a "Hello!" As the boy made his way hurriedly to one of the desks.

Well, there was the subtle reminder of Marci. Only the Ravenclaw made sense when he talked, and did wait for you to answer. At one point. "Hello, Marco. Oh they were fantastic. Marci says thanks... and lots more." The boy got the idea.

"Hello, dear. Yes, I'm sorry there are no Gandrs today, too!" What a splendid young lady. She missed the Gandrs like the loud lioness. Ugh. He loved his students, so much enthusiasm!

Another silent one. Botros knew for sure that those quiet were his new students, and they probably needed to learn his habits. So he grinned brightly, his wrinkles deepening, and greeted the boy. "Good morning!" He continued his pacing between the desks and when the Hufflepuff gave up on the parchment, the professor cane!walked to his desk and tapped it with the tip of his cane. "They're pretty stubborn sometimes." No, they were not. He just didn't want the poor kid to feel bad.

"Good morning, miss Hyde." See, the girl was giving the subject a chance this term. Very good. "I did, yes, thank you." He smiled and nodded his head.

Now this was a role-model to those new silent kids. Botros stopped pacing and waved back at the Hufflepuff, the big grin still etched on the old man's face. "Good morning, Mr. Summers! Great snitch catch last game. You completely flattened the entire staff." Laughing as he said so. Botros was on his colleague's cheering side but still. The boy was impressive.

Gryffindors, you gotta love 'em. Always bright and ready for action in the morning. "Good morning, dear." He passed her desk, frowning confusedly at the crossed out words on her name tag. Hmm.

"Hello, dear. Welcome back to class." He remembered her. One of the Gryffindors who really kicked butts with Thor's hammer last term.

"Hello, dear. Oh, I'm glad you noticed!" He was pretty proud of his cleaning, and his beaming smile showed it.

"Hel-" Oh she was feeling chatty today, wasn't she? Botros reached his desk and leaned back on it as he smiled at nodded at her. They did notice that he cleaned the room for them! How proud Debbie would've been! "Very good observation, yes. We'll talk about it in a minute." He watched her head for her desk and... continued being smiley. Sherman had a lovely granddaughter, why wouldn't Marci be like her, hmm?

"Good morning, Mr. Montmorency. It's good to see you again, too." Botros was going to genuinely feel the gap the young man would leave in his class when he graduated. "Great Quidditch game." He flashed him a grin. Everyone did a great job, of course, but Botros knew that Mr. Montmorency took his captain-ship seriously and worked his butt off to motivate the others.

OH! At least this new kid was not a quiet one. Botros extended his wrinkly grin over to the boy, "Good morning." It was very normal that the boy was not an enthusiast yet. The professor believed that most young people were discouraged by this brilliant subject, it was normal, really.

"Good morning!" Another new kid. Botros was going to keep a close eye on all of them in case they needed a little push. Just in case.

Still leaning against his desk, Botros offered the girl a big smile in return as she walked in. "Good morning. Nice to see you too." And yes, he was doing great. Why did everyone keep hoping that? Was it because he was old just a bit more mature than them? Weird.

"Hello, miss Castell. Welcome back to class." She got an equally big smile from the old man.

"Good morning!" Again, trying to match the enthusiasm of the kids with his rather wrinkly big smile.

"Hello, dear." He remembered her from last term and from the egg sale they had last week. "Hope you managed to sell your eggs."

Looking down at his watch, Botros swayed his cane and the door slammed shut. WHOOPS. "Good morning again everyone and welcome to class." He smiled again at the new kids before straightening up off the desk and starting to pace between desks, leaning on his cane. "I am professor Abraham Botros, I teach Ancient Runes so please if you feel like you're in the wrong classroom, you can excuse yourself now." Completely serious he waited for a moment.

"Some of you have noticed the absence of Gandr baskets that usually were the focus of our classes last term." The pride and gladness was shining off his face like a five year old in a candyshop. "I'm afraid we're not going to use runic wands today, but rather learn the one important spell that you all need to use for your Ancient Runes project." They might want to check the noticeboard for that, too. He assumed they all were attentive to this subject so he went on without further explanation.

Stepping up on the dais and turning around to face the class once again, Botros waved his cane and the blackboard came to life, writing whenever the professor moved his staff. "Ancient Runes might not be the one crucial subject that all wizards must excel at, but it is a subject of great importance to those who seek knowledge or desire enforcing or harnessing their magic." Leaning sideways on his cane, he continued, "Runes are an ancient alphabet, symbols -if you may- found on most wizardy relics or sights." The blackboard wrote few keywords. "Besides their magic power and essence, each rune holds a deeper meaning and indication to one's life and the path or decision he can make, and what consequences might ensue." Actually... standing was hurting his knees. He stepped down the dais and started pacing again, "It's important to learn the varied concepts of those symbols in order to harness their wisdom and consult in whichever challenge we face, later on in our life." Right? Runes were a great way to lead us through life!

"Question. What's the name of a runic alphabet, any alphabet, and in which era was it used or discovered? Please raise your hand before giving an answer." They may use their textbooks.
ooc: - class has started, please don't announce your charrie walking in after this post or they might suffer point loss. :o
- Class will resume in 12 -17 hrs.

Well with the more famous runic alphabets already mentioned, Aquila raised her hand slowly offering to mention something a bit more obscure “In Wales, there is something we call Coelbren y Beirdd – The Bardic Alphabet or the Barddas Runes. Its got 20 basic letters plus another 20 for longer vowels and stuffs.”

"There's the Anglo Saxon. Its been said, I think, that they've been used between the 5th centuary until AD till the 10th centuary? And then they were being replaced by latin?" Tag wasn't even sure if that was right, but that's as much as he would say. Besides, he didn't want to say a lot and not be sure of his answer and be entirely wrong and then 'looked' at or something. So he simply stopped there. If he had said something wrong, or the professor wanted to elaborate Tag was sure the professor would.

Mika BEAMED at Professor Botros and just sat there listening to what he had to say at first. Really she liked this class, his class was fun. And it was runes and runes were just cool right? She listened to the question and just sat there for a minute trying to think one up.

Raising her hand the eager claw practically squealed out her answer. "The youngest of the runic alphabets is the Dalecarlian runes - they were from about the sixteen-to-nineteenth century." She beamed. "A really interesting thing is that they were still in use in the twentieth century" she beamed at this fact. Really. Runes in the twentieth century sounded so cool.

Wade had been patiently sitting in his desk by the time the lesson began. He was happy to know that he could continue into Newts-level with this class. Botros was a cool Professor in Wade's eyes, how often did teachers let them break and smash stuff. Heh.

With his name tag that had been neatly written, was facing forward before the first question was asked. Well, someone already mentioned the Dalecarlian Runes. So Wade rose his hand to offer another, "There's also the Gothic runes, that were in east-Germany." It was an extinct language though, "It was used until the 17th century." He hoped that one qualified.

They were used until kinda recently really, like from the 16th to 20th centuries." Pretty recent yep. West thought they were interesting on account of they were based on Medieval ones, but over time more and more Latin Alphabet characters started replacing them and being combined with them. It was cool seeing how they'd changed and stuff, and given how recent they were there was a bunch of stuff you could look at to actually see the differences.

When she asked the first question Minerva listened a bit to the other answers and put up her hand, " Sir, there is the Dalecarlian runes, I read that these runes were used in the 16th through 19th century. It was used in the isolated province of Dalarna." Resting her head back on her hand she tried to wake herself up without much notice. At least for now the information was just what was in books. Good thing she liked to read and read a lot.

Question. What's the name of a runic alphabet, any alphabet, and in which era was it used or discovered? Please raise your hand before giving an answer.

Kace flipped through his textbook and he found some that maybe wasn't mentioned. He thought the Dalecarlian Runes were pretty cool. He raised his hand and said, "Professor there is the Dalecarlian Runes. They were discovered in the early 16th century and developed from Young Futhork."

That was all he knew so far for a first year that is. He read more about them in his textbook.

"Ah, yes, yes. The Dalecarlian runes continued to be used until the early years of the twentieth century in the suburbs of Sweden. The province, which Mr. Odessa mentioned, was called, "last stronghold of the Germanic script"." The blackboard was writing. "The Dalecarlian is derived from medieval runes, but during the following centuries more and more individual runes were replaced with Latin characters. Until its last stage almost every rune had been replaced with a Latin letter, or influenced by Latin characters."

It is composed of 27 Scandinavian letters and it has evolved from the Younger Futhark. " It was fully formed during the 13th Century, right? What else could she remember about this one. Hmm. But the awesomest? THOR. HAMMER. GRIN.

... Botros was talking. About the subject and then runic alphabets. And whether they knew the names of any? ... Hmm... flick... flick... flick through the textbook... "Erm... Professor?" he said, raising his hand, "Like Beezus said, there's the Medieval Runes which evolved from the Younger Futhark," And... was there anything that the older Ravenclaw hadn't mentioned? Because he didn't want to repeat what the girl had said. "It was in the 13th century that the short twig and long branch runes were combined which... I guess... made them fully formed? And since they have a child system that's sort of different, I guess the Medieval Runes started dying out in the 16th or 17th Century when some of the runes were starting to get replaced by Latin characters."

... Okay, he was starting to ramble so... he'd just stop talking now?

Speaking of medieval runes before! The professor nodded enthusiastically at the prefect and the snitch-catcher. "Yes! Correct. Basically the medieval runes, introduced after the end of the Viking Age, are the basis on which runology appeared in the 16th century." He then gestured to Summers who completed Castell's idea, "Despite being the fundamental ground for this science and other runic alphabets -that we mentioned before-, the medieval runes began to be threatened by the Latin letters by the beginning of the 13th century. However, this alphabet was revived once again when the medieval Scandinavian laws were written completely in runic."

"There's the Younger or Scandinavian Futhurk which was used from the 9th to the 11th centuries. It's a reduced form of the Elder Futhurk and was used mostly by the Vikings." Yep, she said Vikings. Hardly able to keep still, she swung her feet about, listening to the Professor the entire time, of course. That's how she heard him say all the things he did and that question he asked. Lex was pleasantly surprized to note that he didn't ask what a rune was even for the sake of the Firsties. She didn't know the answer last year and she didn't know it now. Besides, he'd kinda crushed her when he told her that squibbly wasn't a word.

Pfffft, it so was.

But onto the question. She flipped open her textbook, because this was allowed, and went looking for one that hadn't already been said then stuck her hand up. "You also have, like Alice mentioned, the Younger Futhark. It's called the Scandinavian runes too and it's...um...the reduced form of the Elder Futhark, having only 16 letters, created some time around the 9th century." Ages ago but she wouldn't say that part aloud in case the Professor was sensitive about age. Now wasn't she the considerate one??

She knew that her cousin could burp the ABCS (which was really discusting) yet maybe one could fart them as well? Like a fart alphabet or something. The poor teachers of the Fart Alphabet would probably have to use nosepegs or something.

"The three most used runic alphabets, yes." He smiled at everyone who gave an answer, even those who tried saying it. "The Elder Futhark being, as its name suggests, the oldest of them all. The general agreement dates the creation of the first runic alphabet to roughly the 1st century. Early estimates include the 1st century BC, and late estimates push the date into the 2nd century." He waved his cane for the blackboard to write down the key words he was saying. "There are 24 runes in Elder Futhark, and we're going to be focusing on this particular alphabet in our study." As usual.

"The Anglo-Saxon runes were used probably from the 5th century AD until about the 10th century, it's a child system of the Elder Futhark. It contains all 24 runes from the parent alphabet in addition to 5 more. But as Captain Montmorency mentioned, the Anglo-Saxon disappeared after the Norman conquest.

"Younger Futhork or "Normal Runes" gradually evolved the Elder Futhark over a period of many years and stabilized by about 800 A.D., the beginning of the Viking Age, and contained only 16 runes." He knocked on his desk a couple of times to wake those who dozed off before moving on, "Mr. Summers mentioned something about Medieval Runes previously. Pay attention, we're making connections between them now." Yes? Did he have to knock more? "The younger Futhark has three variants. The Danish long-branch runes, the Swedish-Norwegian short-twig runes, and lastly the staveless runes." Pause. "The use of this alphabet has significantly declined by 12th century."

Runic alphabets. Okay. Kat raised her hand to answer. "There's the Hungarian runes," the Slytherin said. "They were used by the Székler Magyars in Hungary until the 11th century." Guess that was enough information so Kat stopped and waited for someone else to speak. Also... Kat thought it was Anglo-Saxon. She never heard of a Anglo-Frisian alphabet, or maybe she'll just find out later.

That was so long. Ancient, more like it.

Ooh. Hmm. "Yes, there is Hungarian runes. Runic alphabets. Of course he knew of the two most common ones.. the Elder and Younger Futhark. Probably everyone in the class knew those.. and he raised his hand to answer with one of those, quickly putting it down as others were called on and answered first. He had heard of others, not really committing them to memory, and flipped through the textbook to provide another answer. Thinking he found an answer, the 7th year raised a hand. "Gothic runes..? Though I think they have their origins in the Elder Futhark.." They very much looked the same. "Not sure when they were used, but they were replaced with a Gothic Alphabet in the 4th century AD.. so before that?" Yeah.. putting hand down and shutting up now. If it wasn't the Elder Futhark, or even the Younger, he probably didn't know what he was talking about..

Botros laughed lightly when the Ravenclaw prefect trailed away, "It is quite hard to follow all those dates and alphabets, huh? Well like Mr. Potter and Mr. McCarty said. There is the Gothic runes. "Well, there's the Celestial Alphabet which people used to try and communicate with angels n the sixteenth century. That derived from the Hebrew and Greek alphabets which ultimately derived from the Etruscan Alphabet which dates all the way back to the sixth century. And...maybe they're not runes exactly, but some of the symbols are really similar looking to the Elder Futhark runes." She was a little fuzzy on what made an alphabet and a rune language different, but she'd get there.

Hmm. Botros listened interestedly to the girl, nodding his head and knocking on the side of the desk as more snoring echoed from the last rows. "That is interesting, but it's not a runic alphabet as you have mentioned Ms. Dawnsel." See? He remembered her name!

"Professor," Mo raised his hand finally. "Do you consider Old Italic scripts to be runes? I'm thinking specifically of Etruscan, but I think loads of runic scripts are derivations of the older Old Italic ones. So... it seems like they should qualify too."

"I do consider it a runic alphabet, yes. In fact, in a moment you'll see how the Old Italics is the father of all those runic alphabets we're talking about. One way or another." Botros was excited! Most of the students mentioned exactly what he wanted them to pay attention to!

"Until the early 20th century, I think runes were used in rural Sweden for decorative purposes. On runic calendars, right? In Dalarna, too." Alice hand went up, and her mouth opened again, and words came out. "But that one's not living today anymore, yeah?" And then her mouth closed and the words stopped flowing again and she fell silent. His cane was really nice. She kind of wanted one.

Because, really, it DID look like it could take out an eye.

HA! Score ONE for Dylan.

Professor Botros had mentioned him by name...and YES! If the grin on his face was any indication, the Slytherin was rather pleased with himself. Merlin, he'd been so BOSS at Runes since Botros.

As his hand flew over the parchment, quickly writing all the things the Professor was mentioning, he heard the next question. Naturally, the Captain answered...but his tone was distracted and sorta far away as his hand continued to write. "Protection, sir?..."

Whyyy would people just repeat what he'd said, West wondered, when there were plenty of other things a person could say? He shook his head slightly and put his hand up to answer the next questions.

"A lot of them are used as symbols still, for organisations, like as an insignia on flags and stuff like that." Did he need to give specific examples? West figured it was probably best not to because for some people it might be a sensitive topic right? "Which is the sort of point of a rune, since they're all symbols anyway. So their symbolic use has lasted from their origins to now."

Ella was listening and scribbling notes and doodling on all kinds of things about runes and ancient runic alphabets and when they happened and more. There was a lot of information floating around and it was good, yeah? Especially because a lot of it was stuff she hadn't known previously. She liked learning new things. Especially new things about runes.

Then another question was posed and Ella considered it for a minute or two before speaking. There were lots of uses for runes, yeah? They could be used as a form of writing, or for magic and divination purposes too. She supposed using them as a form of communicating wasn't exactly as common anymore but it was still definitely used for magical purposes. They did that lots at school, actually. "Professor, people used to use the runes for charms. For instance, in the form of tattoos or pendants. This is still something people do today...keeping symbols that they believe will bring them luck or strength with them."

Tag would probably be giving the most generic simple answer in the world. "Runes are used for... communications?" Gosh. He really needed to read his stuff some more. He really half guessed his answers in most classes while everyone else, mostly, seemed more sure. Tag wasn't quite sure what the professor meant by the second question so he kept quiet on that part.

SPOILER!!: Medieval Runes

SPOILER!!: Elder Futhark - Anglo-Saxon Futhorc - Younger Futhark

SPOILER!!: Hungarian runes & Turkic alphabet

Ooh. Hmm. "Yes, there is Hungarian runes. Aquila beamed back at the Professor. A new bit of info wasn’t it? Like anything else she have mentioned or brought to Hogwarts, she felt quite happy sharing a something from her neck of the woods.

She scribbled down all the other Runes mentioned, interesting bits, but difficult to remember for her and she found herself staring at the diagram on the board before remembering to take that down too.

Now what did they use their runes for back home? The young Claw squeezed her eyes shut and tried to recall those instances when the Priestesses used them for. It was many and varied, but there was something that clearly stuck in her memory. Lifting her gaze she raised another shy hand “Uhm Professor... in some smaller cultures like our own there are still beliefs and traditions where we inscribe Runes on a person as a kind of blessing and protection, not always for fighting--” because the Priestesses never ever approved that “—but moreso like when someone is sick or someone would be travelling.”

Penelope didn't offer any answers for the alphabet question because...well she didn't have any. Answers, that is. None that wouldn't just be repeating someone else's answer. So she kept quiet and just waited for the next question to come.

And there it was. She thought about it for a moment then raised her hand. "Weren't some kinda used as like...divination? As another method to try and tell the future and all that. And I guess some people might still use it as that today?" Since some people still believed in and used divination - they had a class on it and everything - so it would make sense for some to still use runes as a part of it, right?

OH! Diagram! Alec opened his journal and started scribbling down the information up on the blackboard. When it was put up like that in a diagram, it was actually easier to see how each of the different runes linked to one another. And it was a good way to remember... things. Things for OWLs which, speaking of, how awesome would it be if they had to smash a box as part of the Ancient Runes OWL?

...

Moving on... another question? A use for runes... "Professor?" he started, raising his hand in the air, "Since they're a set of alphabet, would they have had similar writing purposes to the ones we have?" Yeah... he was supposed to be answering the question, not answering with a question. "What I'm trying to say is, the runes were considered to be sacred, see. Something from the gods and Norse gods. So legends and sagas would be carved in stone... runestones... and they'd be preserved. And maybe the stories would be passed onto the following generations from the runestones. It would be... well... our equivalent of books, maybe. ... Except on stone."

... Also... "It's not really used now... but I guess you can still find a runestone and translate the runes and find out what the text says." ... Find a runestone... FIND a runestone... it sounded so easy.

... And did he even answer the question? And was this even correct?

Uses? Runes had loads and loads of uses, even more than the really important ones listed so far - for communication and protection and charms and divination. Important uses too. Mo traced out a few patterns on his desk top as he considered other uses over time.

Oh, obviously. Mo raised his hand. "Decoration, too, sir, which I think goes along with what West was saying about being used symbolically. People will wear runes or paint them or carve them onto prominent and visible places. I'm not sure if the people who put them on pottery or jewelry don't really believe or don't understand what they really mean, although I think there are some people who like the aesthetic AND want the magical value derived from using the rune."

Minerva half listened to everyone talk about the runes. She knew this was the first lesson and they had to go over the basics, but she was just so sleepy, that the basics were really giving her a hard focusing time. Opening her eyes wide so they wouldn't shut she sat up straight in fear of dozing. She would really need to go to bed earlier tonight.

When the professor asked what runes were used for she put up her hand, [b] "Professor, we have in other classes put two runes together to make a stronger protection or even made them to help make us better at something."[b] She thought of her exam last term and how she had to put the two together and why they would work to make someone better.

Laura looked at the Professor and smiled. "They have recently been used for divination, I think sir." Laura wasn't 100% sure but she was fairly sure she had heard it somewhere, at least she wasn't giving a silly answer like last year right.

Nigel was a liking all this runes knowledge and tried to absorb as much of it as he could. He did know some history of them. He likes to read and picks thing up along the way.

"They were used as language and law making. For example The Codex Runicus"

That was such a cool name for a book of laws

Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.

notes notes notes, Oakey had been too quiet just taking down note notes notes. Different types of Runes and all that stuff. What else were runes used for? Oakey was hearing a lot of others saying body art and protection.
"Runes are used as inspiration for muggle Authors, most notibly J.R.R Tolkien. He used Elder Furthark in his book The Hobbit." Oakey knew more about this than that silly old Star Trek cult Professor Flamsteed lead with an iron fist. He also didn't have to write a paper on it either...yet. "Then took it a step further and created his own fictional set for his Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the Cirth Runes." but Tolkien isn't really considered modern anymore so... "A lot of modern authors have followed suit since Tolkien found inspiration in the Elder Furthark Runes, and have done the same."
Can he make uo his own set too! Oh BOY that'd be neat!

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

That...that was all a lot of information to take in and she was most sure she wouldn't remember even half of it once the class was over unless she did something about it, so while the Professor spoke, she was busily scribbling away at her parchment, trying to catch a sentence or two.

She was so focused on the writing that she didn't notice that the last thing he said, wasn't in fact another fact but more of a question.

She had an answer toooo. Ahem.

I don't knoooow

But she wasn't going to say that out loud now was she? Nope. Not especially since everyone else just seemed to be raising their hands and producing answers all over. It'd only make her look bad with the old guy. Not something she was going to chance.

Lex put her quill down and just smiled at the Professor as she waited for something else to be said or asked.

Cool, least the Gothic runes counted. Wade then rose his hand during the next question. "Other than protection," Wade started. "They are believed to give the wearer a certain power and strength depending on the rune."

ooc: - Try to talk about ONE particular use, please, to give the others a chance to participate.
- Class will resume in 12-17 hrs. Hang in there, the theoretical part is almost over!

Making notes was a good idea, she wrote all the answers she heard on her parchment and she copied the things from the blackboard. She listened to the professor if the answers were good, and if not than she would remove the answer from her parchment so that she only had the good answers. She had been a little worried because she hasn’t answered the question but the professor didn’t mind it, he nodded to her and a other student and she felt immediately better!

She hoped that she would knew the next question and listened careful to what the professor was telling the class. His next question was not as difficult as his previous question but it was still not something she was sure of. But… she wanted to try it and raised her hand. “I think that they were used as a alphabet” Sonea paused for a moment and realized that she had really no idea how she could answer his other question. “And that is all what I know, professor” said Sonea and felt how her cheeks colored pink. She quickly sat back down and grabbed her quill, ready to make more notes.
