The classroom was exactly the way it always had been; desks and chairs laid out in parallel rows, the small dais upon which the professor's big desk sat. The rectangular blackboard fixed to the wall over the dais. The only difference in the class, for the hawk-eyed students only, would be the lack of any Gandr baskets near the desk. The lack of anything interesting, really. However, the desks were freshly clean, and so was the floor and the whole room. The professor should be seated at his desk, reading, when the students show up. He'd greet and nod at them as they filed in.
Enter the room, take a seat, follow the instructions on the blackboard, then wait for the class to start.

ooc:- Class will start in 12-20 hrs. You can RP your character walking in class freely. Try to keep the chatter down, please, though. CLASS HAS STARTED. Do not announce your arrival, just pretend that you've already been here all along.
- Please refresh yourselves with the Rules & Expectations of this class. xo
THIS CLASS WAS TAUGHT BY A GUY AND AN OLD ONE. Translation: it was gonna be boring and Ascanius had better things to do. Like, he could have been out and sitting on the ground and sleeping or you know ANYTHING else. But he couldn't get out of this class. Hogwarts was weird. He literally couldn't figure out how to appropriately skip class yet. But the year was still young. Smirk.
So he walked in the room, nodded at the old guy, "Professor." And then sat down and filled out all of the stuff he was supposed to. Huh. Maybe he could nap.
Kace was interested in attending this class. He knew the professor was pretty cool and he wanted to try this subject out. He heard this class was kind of challenging but he could handle it.
Once Kace was inside the classroom, he noticed the professor. "Good morning Professor!" he nodded towards him and went to find his seat. Once he found his seat in the middle of the room, he made his name tag.

He tapped it and then it became a name tag. He was waiting for the lesson to begin with his notebook and quill out on his desk.
Please excuse our excitement and overall content over the fact that they were going to have an Ancient Runes class, that Professor Botros was still their Ancient Runes Professor, and that the classroom was mighty clean.
THANKYOU. WELOVEYOU,BOTROS. Maybe Airey a lot more, but shhhh.
"Professor Botros," she said, stopping only a little, "How nice to see you today, Sir, I hope you're doing wonderfully well,"BEAM. And no, she wasn't sucking up or anything, she actually meant every single word. She liked him. He was oh-so-cool.
He'd said he was awful with names, but he could at least remember that if Lottie was returning for class was because she'd liked them last term, yeah? Because she went to him totally unsure of whether to take this class or not. SURELY he could remember that?

By now, Lottie had made her way to a seat or her choice. Close enough to Lex if they needed to partner up, BUT...she saw that expression, Ascaniuuuus. NO ONE WAS NAPPING.
Which is why she sat next to him, she could poke him with her wand and NOT let the boy fall asleep in class.
"Hi, Penelope's boyfriend," she greeted him with a small smirk, and busied herself with the tag.

Ancient Runes.
She got an A on her OWLs for this subject, it passed but in between the passing grades, it was silently telling her that she needed to pay more attention during class. She passed but she almost failed too, so yes...she was going to listen more to their discussions. You know, she needed to be prepared for NEWTs next term. Funny how time passes too quickly.
The whole paying more attention thing didn't seem too difficult to do, especially when she stepped inside the classroom and find out that it was clean unlike some others. Thank goodness for that. But some things were notably missing. Yeah, she kinda figured those have been sold off too. But still, the place was clean and that was more than a good thing.
"Good day, Professor Botros." Beezus greeted with a smile when she neared his desk before proceeding to one vacant seat and descended down on it. Blackboard instructions...okay. She read and wrote down her name and year.

"Morning Professor!" said the cheery girl.
Amara entered this class. And it had it's quietness. ERM, quiet and quirky. She didn't like quiet and quirky. Everything was supposed to be loud! And there, the usual sign. Write. Don't talk. No magicky! What was the point of having magical school...Well, behind every warning sign is a mysterious reason. KNOCKS. AHEM.
She wrote her name on the tag, as instructed.

Yay! It looked like they were not going to have to clean during class today. Because the room was dust free. Thank you, Professor thoughtful Botros. She still hadn't fully recovered from Charms class a few days ago. But no, she decided that she was going to try not dwell on that. Or the dust still blanketing the rest of the school. Nope. She walked into clas with a smile greeted the professor with a "Hello, professor," and parked herself at a desk, her bag taking it's now usual spot right next to her feet. Oh, what was this? Desk tags? Okay....

Sarah really did not enjoy Ancient Runes as much as she enjoyed the other lessons. It just never enticed her and all. Also there were myths and legends involved and Sarah felt like that was a waste of time. She never did like the fantasy genre after all.
She walked into class though determined to enjoy it. "Hello Professor!" she said greeting him. "how was your summer?". She wondered what old people did in their summer. Sarah's summer was all about running around, romping and just having fun. Yet for old people it must be boring, boring enough to actually want to read those silly stories about the Norse.
She sat down at a desk and wrote on the partchment.
.
She then took out her wand and tapped the partchment and tada she had a desk tag.
Then she looked around. She wondered what they were doing that lesson as Sarah noticed that there were no Gandrs around
Botros had his reading glasses on his nose bridge when the first student walked in. He smiled and nodded at the young girl, "Hello to you too. It was pretty good, thank you."

He was nearly the first one there.
That was slightly odd and remotely embarrassing, he thought as he slowed his steps and glanced at his watch. When was he ever one of the first ones in class? Especially when he was hurrying because he thought he was running late.. He was never that enthusiastic, even for Herbology.. but here he was. "Good morning, Professor," he greeted Botros with a nod as he walked past. And now he had his choice of pretty much any seat in the classroom.. which, thank Merlin, was immaculately clean.
He chose a seat smack dab in the middle of the classroom and sat down, pulling out his things from his bag to set on the desk. Glancing up at the board, he noticed the instructions and pulled out a piece of parchment to write on it.
He then tapped his wand on it and it turned into a name tag for his desk. Now what.. he would have to wait a bit for class to start since he was so early.. he opened his textbook and distractedly skimmed through it, his mind vaguely wandering to what they might be studying today.
"Good morning, Mr. McCarthy and congrtulations on your Prefect badge." Botros had lowered his reading glasses to get a good look at the new Ravenclaw Prefect, a soft smile on his face.

Now what was he suppose to do Nigel looked at the blackboard quickly. Then back to the Professor.
"Hello, Professor"
Maybe he had a hard time remembering names. Whatever, Nigel walked to a open desk and wrote down on his parchment
He then tapped it with his wand and made sure it turned into a desk name tag. Well that was all the magic Nigel was going to do in this class. Nigel did not hate Runes. He just liked using magic.
"Hello, mister." Smiling and nodding. He should stop reading now probably since the students were starting to arrive? Hmm.

She made her way to the Runes classroom with her charmed (undetectable extension charm) bag again. "Hi Professor," she said as she entered the classroom and took a seat somewhere.
Kat took her wand out after writing on her parchment and tapped it. Now her parchment was a shiny and pretty desk name tag. Time to wait for the others now... hmm.
"Good morning, dear!" He liked enthusiasm, specially this early in the morning. Botros closed his book and with his cane he got up and stepped down the small dais. "Congratulations on your badge." She was one of his hardworking students so, yeah, he let himself feel proud of her.

Clutching her things extra tightly, as she always seem to do now whenever she walks in for class, she gives a bright smile to the elder Wizard “Good day Professor Botros.” She spots the instructions on the board and dutifully takes her seat, scribbles her name on the parchment and hesitantly, taps the parchment with her wand. Lo and behold!—and handy dandy desk plaque. Wand down on the desk. Yeah she added her House in the end, mostly for her own reminding than for his.
"Good morning to you little lady." He gave her a small smile and watched her not drop her books as she made her way to a desk.

But, she was now a second year student and she needed to do her best to become better, and if she did her best she probably could learn this lesson also!
“Hello professor” greeted Sonea friendly and looked around her. She saw a girl she had met before and walked over to her, “hi, can i sit in the chair besides you?” Sonea smiled friendly at the older girl and wrote while she waited on her parchment.
She waited with her parchment in her hands until the older girl said that it was okay to sit on the table who stood besides hers.
"Hello, dear. Welcome to class." He started pacing between the desks, making sure they were ALL clean. He worked really hard on cleaning this room last night. It was part of his job now - well, to him it was that way.

Obviously this class would be a grand one for her!!
Lex hopped into the room, just finishing up a chocolate frog as she entered. No need to take it to class with her now. There was a wide grin across her face that faded only slightly when she entered.
No grandr baskets...did...did this mean they wouldn't be breaking anything this lesson??? "Hello Professor!!!" BEAM. "I see the class got cleaned...but...er...I think you might have forgotten to put the grandr baskets back. I assume we'll be needing them for the lesson, won't we?" Because she was sure that if she tried breaking things with her wand all she'd end up with was a broken wand and a tear stained face.
Oh and name tags! She plopped down in a random seat and began scribbling away.
Tap.
Voila, she now had a name tag! GRIN.
Oh! He definitely remembered this kid, too. The loud one! He tried to match her beaming grin, overdoing it a bit. "Hello! Oh no, I'm afraid I did not do the cleaning with Gandrs." He laughed at the mere idea. "And no, we won't be needing a Gandr today. We're going to... learn something new." Not really new, but more wand magic, less runic magic.

Instead, Tobias entered the room and took a seat near to the front so his view wouldn't be blocked by the head of a taller student. Retrieving his quill and ink and some extra parchment of his own, Tobias sat and did as told.
He then tapped it with his wand in the vain hope that it would become a desk name tag, but no go. Tobias tried again, but still no, so he gave a shrug and put his wand away, before moving the parchment so it was the right way up to anyone who was reading from in front of him. Then he waited.
Another silent one. Botros knew for sure that those quiet were his new students, and they probably needed to learn his habits. So he grinned brightly, his wrinkles deepening, and greeted the boy. "Good morning!" He continued his pacing between the desks and when the Hufflepuff gave up on the parchment, the professor cane!walked to his desk and tapped it with the tip of his cane. "They're pretty stubborn sometimes." No, they were not. He just didn't want the poor kid to feel bad.

... He had a class to get to.
Shaking his head, the sixteen year old's run slowed down the closer he reached the open door of the Ancient Runes classroom. So much so that he ended up bounding sideways into the classroom, a grin slowly spreading across his face. YEAH, he had made it! And YEAH, he was excited! And YEAH... nothing else.
"Hello Professor!" Grin and wave! "Hope you had a great summer!" His grey-blue eyes then wandered over towards the blackboard. Name? House? Tap tap? ... Sounded easy enough.
He gave the Runes Man a nod before walking over towards an empty seat right near to a Gryffindor he had seen around. Someone... who... OH HEY, it was that girl who was going to have a secret practice with him! She got a grin sent her way before the boy sat down in the seat, secretly hoping that she didn't mind. He would give her ice cream if she wanted. The Hufflepuff pulled out his this things and scribbled his name and year onto a piece of parchment. He pulled out his wand, gave the parchment a tap with his wand... and grinned. Hello desk name tag!
Now this was a role-model to those new silent kids. Botros stopped pacing and waved back at the Hufflepuff, the big grin still etched on the old man's face. "Good morning, Mr. Summers! Great snitch catch last game. You completely flattened the entire staff." Laughing as he said so. Botros was on his colleague's cheering side but still. The boy was impressive.

TAP. Done.
Still leaning against his desk, Botros offered the girl a big smile in return as she walked in. "Good morning. Nice to see you too." And yes, he was doing great. Why did everyone keep hoping that? Was it because he was old just a bit more mature than them? Weird.

And....Tap!
"Hello, miss Castell. Welcome back to class." She got an equally big smile from the old man.

"Hello, dear." He remembered her from last term and from the egg sale they had last week. "Hope you managed to sell your eggs."
Looking down at his watch, Botros swayed his cane and the door slammed shut. WHOOPS. "Good morning again everyone and welcome to class." He smiled again at the new kids before straightening up off the desk and starting to pace between desks, leaning on his cane. West, who had sat down and written a name tag (which... why? Botros totally knew him now but oh well), put his hand up.
"There's the dalrunes. Also called the Dalecarlian runes. They were used in Dalarna which is a historical Swedish province. They were used until kinda recently really, like from the 16th to 20th centuries." Pretty recent yep. West thought they were interesting on account of they were based on Medieval ones, but over time more and more Latin Alphabet characters started replacing them and being combined with them. It was cool seeing how they'd changed and stuff, and given how recent they were there was a bunch of stuff you could look at to actually see the differences.

See, she knew they wouldn't be cleaning in this class! Nope, they were actually learning something that was useful for things other than cleaning. Like, their term project. Which she totally needed to get started on, but whatever. Now they were being asked what runes they knew of. Sky stopped in her note taking and thought for a second. "There's the Younger or Scandinavian Futhurk which was used from the 9th to the 11th centuries. It's a reduced form of the Elder Futhurk and was used mostly by the Vikings." Yep, she said Vikings. Don't everyone run at the same time now.

Alice's hand went up next. "There's Elder Futhark, the oldest form of the runic alphabet. It was used from the second to eighth centuries, and then in the late eighth century, it was simplified into Younger Futhark." Which that one Slytherin girl had gone on about, yeah? She tapped her quill against her chin thoughtfully, keeping her eyes on the dais and watching the professor wave his cane about.
If he let go of that thing now, could it take out an eye? Hmm.

Daichi was so happy that the room was clean. Not because he liked a clean room but because that meant that they were FINALLY not going to clean up~! This was why the Slytherin sat up straighter in his chair and listened carefully to the first question.
After a moment of thinking, he raised his hand in the air slowly. "Theres a Angelo...Angel..no uhm..Anglo-Frisian runes! " he answered. "And it was used in from 5th to 11th centuries Professor"

Yes, Kat did see Theo sit beside her. She didn't mind if he did. In fact, she wouldn't mind if anyone sat beside her... unless they were an enemy and a certain person. Ahem. The Slytherin smiled back at her team mate. A smile was their type of greeting now. Yeah.

Now she couldn't wait for the class to start... and maybe they get to have an activity? Although they wouldn't be using the Gandrs from last term, as she could see. Boo.

Kat was listening to Professor Botros. She was right about not using the Gandrs. Well there actually were no Gandrs in the classroom right now which explained why. She wanted to use the Gandrs though and do awesome stuff with it even if, well, Runes made her brain pop occasionally. Yes, Kat still had a lot of things to learn about Ancient Runes to avoid any sort of confusion.
Runic alphabets. Okay. Kat raised her hand to answer. "There's the Hungarian runes," the Slytherin said. "They were used by the Székler Magyars in Hungary until the 11th century." Guess that was enough information so Kat stopped and waited for someone else to speak. Also... Kat thought it was Anglo-Saxon. She never heard of a Anglo-Frisian alphabet, or maybe she'll just find out later.

Types of Runic Alphabets? Ella tapped her chin and as she flipped with her other hand through her text book. Many examples had already been given but she figured she could offer something up. Ah-ha, the Orkhon alphabet! She could share about that, yeah?
Raising her hand, Ella waited for her turn to speak. "Sir, the Orkhon alphabet dates back to the 8th century AD and is also known as the Old Turkic script."
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Needless to say she was more than just a little disappointed by the fact that they wouldn't be using grandrs and consequently probably wouldn't be smashing anything. Ah well, she'd just find something to break later. Something big and loud sounding. With this decided, the smile easily stayed on her face.
Hardly able to keep still, she swung her feet about, listening to the Professor the entire time, of course. That's how she heard him say all the things he did and that question he asked. Lex was pleasantly surprized to note that he didn't ask what a rune was even for the sake of the Firsties. She didn't know the answer last year and she didn't know it now. Besides, he'd kinda crushed her when he told her that squibbly wasn't a word.
Pfffft, it so was.
But onto the question. She flipped open her textbook, because this was allowed, and went looking for one that hadn't already been said then stuck her hand up. "You also have, like Alice mentioned, the Younger Futhark. It's called the Scandinavian runes too and it's...um...the reduced form of the Elder Futhark, having only 16 letters, created some time around the 9th century."Ages ago but she wouldn't say that part aloud in case the Professor was sensitive about age. Now wasn't she the considerate one??

"Good morning, Mr. McCarthy and congrtulations on your Prefect badge." Botros had lowered his reading glasses to get a good look at the new Ravenclaw Prefect, a soft smile on his face.
Ethan smiled widely at Professor Botros as he greeted him in return. "Well, thank you, Professor." It always seemed to catch him a bit off guard when a member of the staff expressed that particular sentiment, but he appreciated the cordiality all the same. As more students began to file in, the Prefect turned back to his book, casual flipping pages and vaguely wondering what class would be about today.

Then she turned and gave a look around. Nodding at a few of her friends as she walked towards.. not her usual front seat, but... the middle.. honestly boy did he not know she sat in the front. Sighing she gave Ethan a smile and sat down in the empty next to him. Well maybe the middle wouldn't be so bad, "Good morning.." She said a bit rushed, still trying to wake herself up from over sleeping.
Pulling her hair up quickly to be out of the way, she pulled out her book, parchment, and quill. Alright now she just hoped she would be awake and ready enough for the information that would come with Ancient Runes. Glancing at the board she wrote the information and then pulled out her wand giving it a tap so that it was her nice new name tag. Now was class about to start?
Ethan looked up as he heard a familiar voice greet the professor and he smiled again. His smile soon turn to that of a curious expression as he watched her seem to hesitate on where to sit. He chuckled lightly as she ended up with the seat next to him, as dawning realization finally set upon him. Her internal debate must have been between sitting with him or sitting at the very front.. well, he was glad she chose the former. "Good morning," he returned the greeting brightly, watching her as she pulled up her hair. Yes, he was wide awake after his morning espresso.

Ethan's eyes snapped to the front as the abruptly slamming door quickly caught his attention. He listened for a moment as he introduced himself, the class, blah blah blah.. and his eyes wandered towards where the baskets had been last term at the mention of the runic wands. Sad.. they were pretty interesting last term, but he assumed that to be because of the budget cuts, which seemed to affect every class. Of course, he assumed there were other things they could learn..
Runic alphabets. Of course he knew of the two most common ones.. the Elder and Younger Futhark. Probably everyone in the class knew those.. and he raised his hand to answer with one of those, quickly putting it down as others were called on and answered first. He had heard of others, not really committing them to memory, and flipped through the textbook to provide another answer. Thinking he found an answer, the 7th year raised a hand. "Gothic runes..? Though I think they have their origins in the Elder Futhark.." They very much looked the same. "Not sure when they were used, but they were replaced with a Gothic Alphabet in the 4th century AD.. so before that?" Yeah.. putting hand down and shutting up now. If it wasn't the Elder Futhark, or even the Younger, he probably didn't know what he was talking about..

Now, she had at least did some review over the summer for all her subjects...especially those whom she had quite a bit of a hard time during her OWLs. So, fairly, she had something to offer up to Professor Botros' question.
She put her hand up and answered. "I think there's also the Medieval Runes, Professor. Also known as the futhork. It is composed of 27 Scandinavian letters and it has evolved from the Younger Futhark. " It was fully formed during the 13th Century, right? What else could she remember about this one. Hmm. Oh...."And it also provided the basis for the appearance of runology in the 16th century." Pretty much.
Nigel was surprised that he was serious about walking out if you did not want to be here. But at least the question was simple and he remembered it from his first term here.
"There is Elder Futhark. It was used by Germanic tribes from the 2nd to 8th century"
Though Nigel had the impression that Botros could be as menacing as Lafay if he tired. He had this evil butler looking. When he was serious about something. Which is totally awesome.

Dylan gave the Professor a respectful, praising look. He'd miss him...but would definitely still write...and visit...To be honest, the Slytherin didn't know why he was thinking about it now...
Meh.
The answer, though. He had an answer. "I'm actually going to expand on something Alice said...Anglo-Saxon forms of the alphabet are extensions of the Elder Futhark...and include 26 to 33 letters. It was most likely developed in the 5 century AD...and unfortunately started to die out around the seventh century...I don't think it ever really recovered from the Norman conquest..."
The Captain loved this subject. It wasn't weird at all that he knew things. SMIRK.

"Well, there's the Celestial Alphabet which people used to try and communicate with angels n the sixteenth century. That derived from the Hebrew and Greek alphabets which ultimately derived from the Etruscan Alphabet which dates all the way back to the sixth century. And...maybe they're not runes exactly, but some of the symbols are really similar looking to the Elder Futhark runes." She was a little fuzzy on what made an alphabet and a rune language different, but she'd get there.

Minerva's eyes snapped up right as Ethan had said hello with the door shutting. Well if she wasn't fully awake yet, she best get there. Listening to the professor greet everyone and then talk about something things from last term, Minerva rested her head on her hand trying to stay focused.
When she asked the first question Minerva listened a bit to the other answers and put up her hand, " Sir, there is the Dalecarlian runes, I read that these runes were used in the 16th through 19th century. It was used in the isolated province of Dalarna." Resting her head back on her hand she tried to wake herself up without much notice. At least for now the information was just what was in books. Good thing she liked to read and read a lot.
Kace was excited to start Ancient Runes. Once the professor said his greeting, Kace felt confident that he would do well in this class. He seemed like a pretty chill professor. Then he heard the professor ask his question to the class.
SPOILER!!: Le Prof's Question
Question. What's the name of a runic alphabet, any alphabet, and in which era was it used or discovered? Please raise your hand before giving an answer.
Kace flipped through his textbook and he found some that maybe wasn't mentioned. He thought the Dalecarlian Runes were pretty cool. He raised his hand and said, "Professor there is the Dalecarlian Runes. They were discovered in the early 16th century and developed from Young Futhork."
That was all he knew so far for a first year that is. He read more about them in his textbook.
Sarah raised her hand, "there is the elder fart alphabet" she began, "I mean the old Norse one, whats it called again? The Futfart or something. It was use between the second and eighth centuries." then she had a lightbulb moment "oh yeah its real name was the Elder Futhark, I just remebred it now" She said. She knew that her cousin could burp the ABCS (which was really discusting) yet maybe one could fart them as well? Like a fart alphabet or something. The poor teachers of the Fart Alphabet would probably have to use nosepegs or something.

[QUOTE=Magical Soul;11362321]Now this was a role-model to those new silent kids.
Botros say WHAT?
GRIN GRIN GRIN.
This was like the Truebridge thing all over again. When the woman had called him talented -- HIM. TALENTED! -- and when she had said that she was surprised he hadn't been contacts by professional teams yet. And now BOTROS. "Thanks Professor! That means a lot to me," he said, the big grin still spread across his face, "It was a really great match and... the Professors put up a fierce competition. Hope you enjoyed it!" And... he was glad that the Runes Man hadn't been playing himself. That would feel as odd as playing against Hadley.

Was he in the wrong class? NOPE.
... Oh? At the mention of the Gandrs, Alec tilted his head slightly to look under his table. And... sure enough, there were no Gandrs there. Weird. He had gotten used to the chanting and holding the Gandr and his wand in the same hand and watching the runes glow. It had been awesome!
But the awesomest? THOR. HAMMER. GRIN.
... Botros was talking. About the subject and then runic alphabets. And whether they knew the names of any? ... Hmm... flick... flick... flick through the textbook... "Erm... Professor?" he said, raising his hand, "Like Beezus said, there's the Medieval Runes which evolved from the Younger Futhark," And... was there anything that the older Ravenclaw hadn't mentioned? Because he didn't want to repeat what the girl had said. "It was in the 13th century that the short twig and long branch runes were combined which... I guess... made them fully formed? And since they have a child system that's sort of different, I guess the Medieval Runes started dying out in the 16th or 17th Century when some of the runes were starting to get replaced by Latin characters."
... Okay, he was starting to ramble so... he'd just stop talking now?
Garrick did as he was he was told and made his name tag then smiled slightly as he turned it out to be seen (from his seat as far from Lotus as he could get. Sigh).
