She was sitting there trying the spell, trying to get this to work and concentrating. Boy was she concentrating. Concentrating so hard that she was practically glaring at the wood block.

"Intaglio kenaz kenaz kenaz" she spoke and moved to tap the board but stopped short. She was going to try this one more time.. "Intaglio kenaz kenaz kenaz" she tried again, her tone becoming more urgent.

But...well, she was distracted.

Breathing in and out she tried once more.

"Intaglio kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz" she had done it. She had concentrated, tapped, and had used a very urgent and commanding voice while casting the spell. And it looked to be carving.

And it was right about now that the boy was starting to grow a little bit more conscious of the time. Because most of the other people had gotten their rune carved already and he was... still working on his. Great.

... But... the sooner he got this done, the better, right?

HEAD DOWN, CONTINUE CARVING WUNJO. WUNJO WUNJO WUNJO!

"Intaglio Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo..." Come ooooon... "Intaglio Wunjo Wunjo Wun-" ... Was that the rune? What? Alec blinked a little and bent his head even closer to the piece of wood, trying his hardest to see through the goggles. But it just looked like the surface of the wood was starting to become rough. Sort of. As if the rune was being... carved? ... Maybe he was just seeing things.

... Continue... "Intaglio Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo... In-" No! The wood was becoming even rougher and it definitely wasn't like that before, right? Yeah? And there was a tiny shape forming too. This was... just happening? Alec grinned at the piece of wood, feeling slightly better about all of this. "Intaglio Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo..."

What to choose.. what to choose.. Ethan looked up from his textbook as he heard Botros hurry them along. Oh, had he really wasted that much trying to decide on what run to choose? He had it narrowed down to a couple.. he'd better just decide.

Okay.. Sowilo it was, then. It meant things like strength, success, and positive energy. He liked the way those things sounded.. especially if it related to Quidditch or even just life in general. That was the one he decided on.

He went over the incantation several times in his head - Intaglio Sowilo.. Intaglio Sowilo. And it was just a point with the wand towards the desk, right? Yes, he think he had all that down. Now to perform the spell. He looked around for the nearest pair of gloves and goggles. Oh, Min sitting next to him was using them.. and she looked to be almost done.

"Can I use them when you're finished?"

Dora had been quietly observing the entire lesson from the back of the classroom. She hadn't started taking notes until new spells were mentioned and she wanted to have it in writing for later, so up until she was just observing things. And now she was actually getting ready to DO things since they got to the exciting part now.

"Intaglio," She sat back reciting the incantation like it were a mantra, since it never hurt anyone to make sure they were pronouncing things right. Especially things like spells for runes. That was extremely important stuff. "Intaglio, Intaglio, Intaglio...." Now all she needed was a rune right?

Leaning forward a bit, she flipped open her book and searched for a rune that she wanted.

Magical Soul 05-30-2013 01:56 AM

"Alright, everyone!" Botros stood up from his chair, and quickly glanced around the classroom. No one had set their desks on fire or cut it into two halves, luckily. This class was turning out to be quite normal and safe so far. He was proud of it. "Now we're going to learn about Elder Futhark's runes. But instead of staying inside, stuck in a boring classroom reciting each rune. We're going to go outside and solve puzzles!" PAUSE. "But first, we need to set down some rules." He walked to the edge of the dais and started explaining, "It's going to be a competition between houses. I'd written puzzles about each one of Elder Futhark runes, and put up several planks out in the grounds, near the forest, with those riddles carved on each one of them.

"Those planks are charmed to move aside once a rune is carved on them, carved as close to perfection as possible. And to add a little excitement and adventure, I made four separate mazes, each one has those planks within as path blockers to prevent you from ignoring them. Your job is to work with your housemates in order to go through those mazes, solving the riddles and carving your answer on the planks that block your path." It was really easy since they were working as groups and could divide responsibilities. "Don't worry about whether it was the correct answer or not, we will know later." When they were all out.

"One more thing. The mazes are not real, meaning you won't be able to touch anything if you move your hand through their walls. They're just illusions that appear to those wearing these plastic bracelets." He took one from one of the four boxes before him and waved it for them. It was the cheapest activity he could think of, apparently. "You'll each wear one of them, and obtain a map of each maze to help you through. No textbooks, though." He grinned excitedly at them all. "I'll be watching you from my guard chair, so if you want anything just send some sparks up in the air and I'll come right away." As in after he climbed down from the guard chair without breaking a hip.

NOW. He let the boxes of plastic bracelets float to the students, they should choose the color suitable to their house. Then another box followed with a couple of maps, mainly for the student leaders to handle. "The house that solves all puzzles wins ten extra points. The house that solves three wins seven points, the house that solves two or one wins three points." Pause. "If all houses solve all four puzzles then you're all winners and great rune masters and mistresses." They were his students, they should solve them all.

"Prefects. Captains. Please lead your housemates down to the grounds. You'll spot your maze quickly enough. Do not hesitate, just jump in." Figuratively jumping of course. He just needed a bit... more time to turtle!walk down there.

"Any questions?"
ooc: - There will be four separate threads for each house so that no one gets confused :: Gryffindors - Slytherins - Ravenclaws - Hufflepuffs
- Make sure to post here leaving before RPing your character in the maze.
- The instructions on how this competition will go are provided in those threads.
- This activity will last about 72 hrs & has the majority of points for this class.
- You can continue with the Intaglio practicing activity, but you won't get full credit for the posts after mine post, sorry.
- Any questions/concerns/complaints, you can reach me through PM/IM/Twitter.

Minerva listened as he explained what was going on. A maze.. well that sounded confusing. They were doing a maze about runes and it was a competition. This was different, but an interesting way to learn.

Gathering her things she looked around for Oakey or Nessie, since he said for the prefects to lead the way. Once she found the other puffs, Minerva figured she would just follow them down to their maze. She hoped it wasn't to confusing. She had been doing better at runes, but it was still kind of confusing and she was still so sleepy that her focus was being forced way to much.

Cassirin 05-30-2013 02:16 AM

Oh, exciting! Mo impatiently stamped his feet and paced at his desk as he pulled off the gloves and goggles, waiting for his turn to grab a bracelet. And a map! He was definitely taking a map, even if he wasn't a leader, 'cause he wanted to LEAD if he could. That was okay, right?

Once a spot cleared, Mo rushed forward to grab one of the blue plastic bracelets. Erm... was it supposed to slip on his wrist? He struggled to tug it over his thumb before giving it up and leaving the bracelet hanging half off his hand. Now to get outside!!

Post 3 & leaving

She was finishing with her block right then. "Intaglio Intaglio kenaz kenaz kenaz" she spoke and tapped her block and watched as it finally carved into the perfect shape of the Kenaz room. When she looked up she realized Professor Botros was talking.

About mazes.

What?

She glanced up and looked around before she stood up to leave for the Mazes. Really. She'd just follow someone if she got lost...Probably Mo or Aquila.

Steelsheen 05-30-2013 02:33 AM

Oh! Oh! Bracelets!

Yeah this young one kinda forgot about all that maze and riddles and stuff because she was so taken with plastic bracelets—a material she didn’t know of and was all sorts of exotic for her. She slipped one on and began playing with it, only to be distracted by Mo’s stomping. Hmm? Oh right they were supposed to do something...

So off she goes trotting after the students in blue...

TakemetotheBurrow 05-30-2013 02:41 AM

Bracelets and Maps and Mazes, oh my!

Ella was smiling and bouncing and just plain excited, okay? This sounded like a lot of fun and really, Ella liked puzzles. She liked runes too so it was all beam-y over here. The blonde waited for her turn to grab a yellow bracelet and her map and then she headed towards the door, waving to the other badgers. She was a captain so she could lead, yeah?

Let's go, people!

FearlessLeader19 05-30-2013 02:49 AM

An activity outside! How cool! Jory was excited to get started. He grabbed one of the yellow bands the Professor had and headed over to the Badgers. By the looks of it Ella was leader. He didn't mind. He just wanted to get started.

Let's get going!

Team ronmione 05-30-2013 02:53 AM

Now they were doing a maze portion of this class. Tag had to force every inch of him to not making a certain eye action because of certain things. Anyway, this would be more fun than just being in the class all day, right? Yes, it would.

Tag went over to go grab a bracelet and put it through his wrist then wiggled it in spot for a few seconds before he started heading towards the door and afterwards into the maze.

This should be an interesting class.

oh its Erik ok 05-30-2013 02:53 AM

This sounded so awesome. Nigel was ready to leave the moment he got done talking. But he did not want to seem over enthusiastic. So he waited for most for the student to leave and left with some other claws. They were going to have to help each other solve this maze.

Charely Potter 05-30-2013 02:57 AM

Interesting.. Wade had since removed his goggles and gloves to listen to the next set of instructions. They were going outside now.. to a.. maze.. Hmm.. This was going to be interesting, indeed. Wade took one of the yellow bracelets before he followed the rest of his housemates out when they left.

DaniDiNardo 05-30-2013 03:00 AM

As much as Lex liked carving runes, this idea of a maze and the outside sounded MORE fun!!! Really it was the idea of a maze. The last time she'd entered a maze there was food on the other side and the time before that, adventure.

Hardly able to contain herself she bounced over and got a bracelet, slipped it on while listening to any and everything they would need to know. Working in houses. Right. She could do that.

Ugh, waiting on prefects and Captains, no. Not very appealing, she could find her own way to the grounds, thanks Professor. Lex skipped off, eager to get right to.

Maaaaaaze.

DecemberMoon 05-30-2013 03:01 AM

Eliza was delighted by this lesson plan. Mazes! And mazes with riddles no less! Puzzles inside of puzzles, kind of like the puzzle in the office. Yes! This day was only getting better and it was probably because of how much she loved this class.

Sliding on one of the bracelets as quickly as she could, she grabbed her things and stood by Ethan, wide eyed and bushy tailed - ready to go.

... Oh? It was over? Okay.

Alec placed his wand back into his robes and looked up at the Professor as the man started talking again. That was a lot of information but it was a lot of exciting information! Like mazes! And they got to go outside for this part. AWESOME.

When the box neared him, Alec grabbed a yellow plastic bracelet and... blinked at the map. Was everyone meant to take one of the maps or... were they only for student leaders? Deciding against it -- it was probably for he student leaders -- Alec heading over and followed Ells, Minnie, Jory and Curly Hair Dude Wade. They could form a great bunch, right? Smart people were smart whilst Alec... was... just fast. On a broom. Maybe. Maybe not.

... He needed more talents.

Anyways... they had riddles to solve. And runes to carve. And a maze to CONQUER.

Once it was his turn to use the gloves and goggles, the boy pulled them on and picked up his wand. Seemed like an easy enough task and he pointed his wand at his desk.

"Intaglio Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo," he commanded as he noticed the rune becoming engraved in the wood of his desk. Ethan took a deep breath and concentrated on the shape of the rune in his mind, preparing to try the spell once more. "Intaglio Sowilo Sowilo Sowilo."

Now that looked deep enough. Ethan took off his gloves and goggles and passed them to the next person. Then he ran his fingers over the engraving.. pretty cool.

He looked up again as Botros called for attention.. oh was this portion of class over? He listened to the instructions, growing more interested. A maze and competition actually sounded remotely fun. And extra points.. awesome. Ethan got up and grabbed a Ravenclaw bracelet, put it on and started towards the door. "Ravenclaws.. this way.." he said, gesturing with his arm to follow. He was supposed to be leading them, right?

Govoni 05-30-2013 03:32 AM

Snakes! Let's go!

Dylan was still staring at the rune he'd just carved...when Professor Botros spoke up. This was a rather interesting development. Mazes, eh? This could be either very fun and entertaining...or traumatic. The Slytherin figured it could go either way...He didn't know peoples lives.

Slowly getting to his feet, he stretched and all that...and then said in a rather loud voice. "SLYTHERINS....This way."...and then started walking towards the door. This was competition and it was GAME ON.

...because no one competed like Snakes did.

laurange 05-30-2013 03:45 AM

She was hurrying, Botros! Wait for the poor child who really had no talent in rune carving whatsoever. Randomly deciding on a rune in her textbook, she visualized the meaning (or tried to, at least) and pointed her wand at the center of her table. "Intaglio Algiz, Algiz, Algiz, Algiz." She muttered, trying her absolute hardest to focus despite all the noise going on. "In-tag-le-oh Al-giz. Algiz, Algiz, Algiz, Algiz, Algiz."

Finally seeing the shape of the rune carved neatly into her desk and pulsing unsteadily, she bit her lip. Maybe she should start again with a new rune with more focus?

It was over? But she'd barely even started!

Anyway, Prefects and Captains were leading. And since she was captain, she was probably supposed to lead. Quickly enough, she picked up a blue bracelet and slipped it over her and and onto her wrist. Then, shiny map of the maze in her non-wand hand, she followed the sea of students out. Eh, Bee could lead, right?

She'd just navigate and all that.

TeafortheSoul 05-30-2013 04:03 AM

Well that sounded fun. West put one of the green plastic bracelets on after listening to all the instructions. Hearing Dylan, West got up, packing up the things he'd need and then following his Captain out the door. Someone else would get the map right? Right.

Lockhartian 05-30-2013 05:01 AM

Intaglio Kenaz Kenaz Kenaz (and it wasn't because the Professor had said that one, but because that was actually her favorite)....Oh, wait, competition!

No questions whatsoever, Lottie simply took one of the bracelets, sadly, the yellow one, and followed her Captain. Or, actually, not her Captain, you know, but the one from the yellow house.

Off we go!

Tazzie 05-30-2013 06:36 AM

Mazes. Sweet Merlin....Beezus wasn't too fond of mazes being that her experience with those during her OWLs had somewhat....traumatized her. But no matter. It was all going to be an illusion anyway. Plus, they had maps they guide them through it. So really, it wasn't as bad as she thought it would.

It was actually exciting too. She'd get to work with her Ravenclaws and learn more about this subject the fun way. Competitions were always fun, especially if everyone practiced sportsmanship.

As soon as Professor Botros finished speaking, the brunette grabbed a blue bracelet from the bunch that were floating for distribution. And because she already had a charm bracelet around her wrist - courtesy of the Captain Montomorency - Beezus had to take it off and slip it securely inside her pocket before locking in the one they were using for this activity.

All settled. Well...almost.

Map, please? ...........Thank you. And off we go then, hmm Ravenclaws? Yep, yep. If Ethan was leading then Beezus supposed that she could hold the rear. She made sure every Ravenclaw was out before she exited herself.

"Ravenclaws, this way please...." Hurry now, chikadees.

lazykitty 05-30-2013 08:47 AM

Alright! A group activity where she didn't have to struggle to find partner! Sky grabbed a green bracelet from the box and then, since the captain and Odessa left without a map, grabbed one of those too. Because they would need it, appearently. And then she followed her fellow Slytherin out the door.

Weasley174 05-30-2013 09:57 AM

Laura was a bit scared of mazes after what had happened when she was little but she decided that she would do the best she could and hopefully it would be as scary as she remembered them.
