Hecate had the vial of ice cream in her hands and she was twisting it between her fingers.
She opened it, smelled it and then corked it again...
She was waiting for the kids to file in... They needed to start this potion soon... very soon.
ooc: This class will be faster than the usual classes. It will stay open for at least 72 hours (probably more.) Also thanks to Nixy! and AuroraQuinn for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me, and to Anna Banana for making it into a pretty graphic!
Ethan had set his bottle of Lethe River water aside, waiting for the next step. Did it seem like this class was taking forever? Or was it just his anxiety making it feel like it was dragging on? Either way, he looked up at Lafay waiting for her to give them instruction.. though in its place came her addressing those students who felt the need to question the ingredients.
He turned to look at Minerva who was still looking distressed. He almost wished that she hadn't felt the need to come, but then he probably wouldn't either and he had a feeling that this "ice cream topping" was actually important. His eyes snapped to the young Hufflepuff who apparently screwed up his potion when Lafay called for a prefect. He didn't feel able to leave Min right now and was about to call the boy over when he heard Lafay say..
..Healer Tillstorm? Where.. ? Ethan turned to look at Min as she looked behind them in horror.. and he did the same. Why was she here.. and looming ominously over them? Was she meant to torture them further? He had never even seen her in a class before.. but these thoughts didn't get very far in his mind because he turned in time to see Min falling into her cauldron, catching her robes on the fire.
He reached for his wand, spinning it back around towards her just as she put it out with her own spell. "Min.. are you alright?" he reached gingerly for the arm she was favoring. "Is your arm burnt?" He hoped that she had gotten the fire put out before it burned her skin, but it was just as likely to be burned as well. Maybe this was a mistake to come after all..

She looked in the cauldron and rolled her eyes, "It's just fine. Now listen, and follow my instructions."
Professor Lafay said it was fine. Annabeth repeated teacher's words in her mind, relieved. Her head was aching, but she was feeling better, at least she wasn't dizzy anymore. She was trying to figure out why she fainted when it became clear in her mind: she wasn't eating properly since she noticed people were acting strange. Years ago she had suffered food poisoning and since then she avoided eating when there was a slightest indication that it could be happening again.
What's next instruction? The potion started to bubbling.

Well. WELL FINE. He didn't like it, but he didn't have to taste it, so Mo let Lafay get away with ignoring his question. He checked the fire under his cauldron before carefully adding the Lethe River water.
It sounded so unsanitary.
"I don't think I'm going to try this one, do you?" he elbowed Alice.

See people? Nothing to worry about. Just something to make your attachment to ice cream go way. Because all this ice cream eating couldn't be healthy, especially since it was all some people were eating. Not to mention that all the happiness caused from it was attracting dementors, which sucked. Sky never wanted to go through that whole ordeal at the Fright Fest again.

She was about to protest and question the ingredient more until Mo elbowed her, successfully pulling her attention from Lafay. "No way," Alice whispered, elbowing him back in the ribs. "Properties don't just change like that, and I very much like my memory. She isn't getting a drop of this down my throat." If she wanted a flavor enhancer, she could find butterbeer and butterscotch and mix it together herself.
Much less relaxed now that she didn't have to worry about brewing right, since she wasn't drinking it, Alice leaned back a little and waited for further instructions. Something equally horrid, probably. What was the professor up to?

At that point, his cauldron was overflowing onto the table and dripping on the floor. Marshmallows were floating out and on the table, floor, and even his robes.
He quickly tried to mop up the mess, but he only had his robes to catch the liquid with, so it wasn't doing any good. In an attempt to hide the mess, he moved to the side of his table, hoping his little body would be enough to keep the professor from seeing it.

Daichi's heart raced as he saw what happened to the hufflepuff as her robe caught fire and he saw how panicked she was. Of course she would be afraid, it was FIRE!
The Prefect didn't realise it but his face had turned ghostly pale and his eyes were big with fright. He unconciously held his left arm where his burn mark was from when he was seven. When the girl used Aguamenti to water the fire he let out a breath of relief that he didn't realise he had been holding.
Suddenly, he heard the Professor asking for a Prefect and his eyes looked at the front of the room automatically. Seeing a young hufflepuff kid struggling with his potion, Daichi raised his hand. "I can help him Professor"

Asher just stood there, his face crimson with embarrassment. He felt the like the entire room was looking at him and that was the last thing he wanted.
Not sure weather to move or cry, he took a few deep breaths, and closed his eyes. 1...2...3...4... he counted, continuing to breath deeply. OK, he thought, I can do this.
"Sorry, Professor. I'll be more careful." He gave the professor a faint smile and looked back at his newly cleaned table.

SERIOUSLY, HE COULD!
Just as he was about to grab more ingredients, Asher heard the Prefect say he could help. "Great. Now I get to embarrass myself with a Prefect watching" he whispered. "I can do this, I can do this."
Not wanting to seem ungrateful, since he really did need the help, Asher flashed a welcoming smile at the older boy. "Shall I work next to you?"
Ice cream now inside the cauldron, Nessie looked up at the Professor waiting for further instructions. Was this going to be tested in her NEWTs cause then um...she needed notes. Mellow. Hopefully not, after all it was just syrup, or more like a potion syrup. Maybe notes were needed. Eh. She'd get to them after the next instruction because Lafay was clearly moving on.
Low heat. Right. She checked her knob to check on that and made sure it was low enough. As for the Butterbeer, the eighteen year old just smiled. Mmmm. Butterbeer was a real good drink and in it went inside the chocolate frog-ice cream filled cauldron. Lastly the drops.
Plonk. Plonk. Plonk. Plonk. Plonk. Plonk.
All six drops of Lethe River Water were in. Notes then. She was getting on that and was not so aware that another staff member had joined the classroom, nor was she aware that someone had fainted, nor that someone was almost on fire. Her main focus was her notes.

At least the potion wasn't hot yet. She looked at him, dizzy and embarrassed, and said:
"Thank you." And then she grabbed his arm and sat down, released his arm, looked at him: "are you an angel?"
She took a deep breath. Little by little she became aware of where she was and what was happening there. "Potions! My potion!" She looked into her cauldron desperately. It seemed that the potion hadn't suffered any damage. She gave a sigh of relief.
Annabeth picked up her wand and held it for a little, unsure if she should clean herself by using the Tergeo spell or not. As the Badger was still dizzy, she thought that it would be better to clean herself by using Muggle's means. She searched into her bag and found a handkerchief. Quickly she cleaned her face and then raised her hand and asked the teacher: "Professor Hecate, please. Could you take a closer look at my potion to check if it is still ok?"
So... she had been sleeping or...?
Now Alec felt foolish. But he smiled at her as she woke up and... wait, she thought he was an angel? HIM?! The boy let out a small chuckle at those words, wondering how anyone could think of him as an angel. That was a compliment, though, yeah? "Anytime!" he said, "Erm... and no, sorry! I'm just your regular Hufflepuff boy. Thanks, by the way." Because it did seem like a compliment.
And... it seemed as if she was taking care of herself. And her potion was okay too. Awesome. Making a mental note to speak to the girl after the lesson was over, Alec gave her a smile and a two finger salute before shuffling over a couple of steps to his own cauldron. Mmmmm... ice cream syrup! Or just ice cream...
... Wait. The Healer was here? Was it because of...? But Little Lady Girl was okay, right? So why...
Minnie?! BLINK.
... Uh oh. This was... starting to become a really weird lesson. He sat back a little and looked up at the Professor, waiting for further instructions.

Now, where should she stand to watch what was going on?
Oh yes, right there she thought as she moved over and leant up against the wall, right behind her two most recent victims prefect bug breath and his not so bald anymore crazy girlfriend.
Dylan was just awaiting further instructions, kinda looking around, eyeing all the people. It was getting really suspicious up in this classroom...Particularly from Alice and Alexa's direction. He'd be having a talk with them if they refused too much...They WOULD take this potion...He wanted the real Alice back. Alexa....was pretty much like this already...come to think of it.

Low heat, got it. Wade motioned his wand under the cauldron, "Incendio", lighting it just low enough. He was missing on some of the commotion by concentrating. Then he took the butterbeer, which tempted him to taste it, adding one watching the liquid pour instead.... and now the six drops of the Lethe River Water.
This was all really odd. Was this potions class, or cooking with Lafay? And why did this stuff have to be for ice cream? he had no intention of eating that stuff. Deciding that Marshmallow would be the best base, he filled his super cleaned cauldron up half way, and eyed the rest of the ingredients. Oh, he needed fire. Pulling out his wand, he light a fire beneath his cauldron, keeping the heat low.
Twisting open one of the butterbeers that was sitting there. Carefully, he poured it in, and then added the six drops of water they needed...

Her potion was fine and Professor Hecate hadn't given them new instructions yet. Annabeth watched the boy who had helped her going back to his cauldron. As her cauldron was under control - as well as she herself - she went to talk to the boy. Hopefuly Hecate wouldn't mind if she were a bit polite. "Hi!" the girl waved at the boy shyly as she approached him carefully to not doing anything wrong. "I'm Annabeth. I'm sorry for taking you out of your work. All this sweet steam made me sick... I guess it was cuz I'm not eating properly, as I don't like ice cream..." And then she added "I hope I didn't spoil your potion." And she looked into his cauldron "it seems so nauseating sweet as mine", the girl twisted her nose. "It's better if I come back to my cauldron before Professor Hecate getting angry with me. See ya!" She grinned and turned her back. She needed to hurry back to her cauldron. It was better to not abuse the Hecate's apparent good mood.
Dylan was just awaiting further instructions, kinda looking around, eyeing all the people. It was getting really suspicious up in this classroom...Particularly from Alice and Alexa's direction. Asher smiled at Dylan, thankful for the offer. He really didn't know very many older students, but the ones he had met were quite nice. In his goofy twelve year old fashion, Asher gave a friendly hand gesture and said "Hi Dylan" as he passed by his table.

After gathering his cauldron and ingredients, Asher made his way over to the spot next to Daichi. He felt incredibly small next to the seventh year. "Hi Daichi" he said as he sat his cauldron down "I'm Asher."
After fumbling with a few of the ingredients, Asher managed to get his cauldron half filled with marshmallows again before starting the fire at a low heat. He had only ONE butterbeer next to him and the vile of Lethe River Water. He was not going to make the same mistake again. No. He would be able to finish at least one potion correctly his first year.
Turning to Daichi, Asher asked "It's just the one butterbeer and six drops of Lethe River Water, right? I think I had the two mixed up last time."

Boys. Honestly. Sky just sat there shaking her head at the tension between Daichi and Dylan. And when were they getting the next set of instructions? Or was this it? Could they just start shoving it down the throats of those ice cream obsessed people who were refusing to use it now? Because all this talk of and hyperness caused by the stupid frozen treat was starting to get on her nerves.

She wanted to hide behind Ethan or run out of the room, but the panic attack that she was feeling and her feet frozen to the ground was not going to let her. She just forced herself to sit and cradled her hurt arm. She needed to clean up the mess that she had made, but just the presence of those two together again... She wasn't function.. why did she come to the class... She needed to go hide some where and eat a hug bowl of ice cream...
"Wheatborn!" She scolded. What was WITH the students tonight? She went by the girl's side, holding her by the shoulder so she wouldn't back away and summoned an aloe leaf. She snapped it and let the aloe cover the burn. "There... your burn should be fine."

But Tobias was super curious about this nice tasting river. When he was seven he'd fallen into a river when in the country with his family and he'd gotten a taste of it and it was GROSSSSSS. He'd had to go to a doctor and everything to make sure it didn't make him ill because sometimes there were yucky things in rivers.
He raised his hand. "What makes it taste so good, Professor?" Tobias asked curiously, stretching up onto his tip-toes and bouncing excitedly on the balls of his feet. Wow. A magic river that tasted good. There had to be some super awesome magic to do with that. That river would be a good place to camp at.
UGH! Why did these student seem so interested. Couldn't they just do as they were told? "It's because of the minerals in the river's stones..."

Oh and the Healer. "HAI HEALER TILLSTORM!!" BEAM. "Have you come for ice-cream syrup too? You can have mine, I don't think I'll be using it afterall." There was chocolate syrup in the kitchen, she'd just have some of that. No problem.
"Er...Professor...? Can I sit this one out?" She asked, popping another marhmallow into her mouth. This one she'd dipped in caramel and it had SUCH a nice taste. Mmmm. SUUUUGAR. Lex helped herself to another. Might as well get comfy while she watched the others brewing. Alice didn't seem all that much like she was into this idea so it couldn't have been that great and Mo had raised a good question about how safe it was to be placed on ice-cream. She didn't want it ruining it.
No thanks.
"No... you will NEED to test it." She said glaring at the girl. "And stop eating ingredients."

"She's fine McCarthy. Wand down." She said and glared.

"I don't think I'm going to try this one, do you?" he elbowed Alice.
She thought she'd heard someone say something, so she turned back but never could make out what was said.

Turning again she narrowed her eyes. "No gossipping!"

SERIOUSLY, HE COULD!
"Thank you Prefect Kartharos." She said with a nod.

"Sorry, Professor. I'll be more careful." He gave the professor a faint smile and looked back at his newly cleaned table.
"You WILL accept his help and you will learn how to do it correctly." Hecate said sternly.

Wow, that was curious. The Captain had never seen the woman sit-in on a Potions lesson before...
"Healer..." Suspicious eyes.
Oooooh. Dylan LOVED being told he was RIGHT...
...Even if it was over something stupid. Thank you, Professor.
Also...he eyed the Hufflepuff boy he'd met in Divination, grinning some. If Duck person wouldn't have offered, Dylan totally would have. In fact, just to put it out there..."If the good ol' Prefect finds himself too busy, I can."
There.
"Thank you Captain." She said and smiled at him.

Anyway..."Sup, Asher." Little Puffer dude was cool.
She'd heard her prefect chastise the captain and then the captain tease him. "Oh no. We don't do that here." She said.
"Alright, back to the ingredients. Add seven blades of fluxweed, untouched. Use your gloves, then add 2 spoonfulls of poppyseeds." She said putting on her own gloves and showing how it was done.

Alexa didn't NEED to do anything. Her father never made her do anything she didn't want to so she didn't see why the Professor would try. Nope. Nope nope nope. When this syrup was done she was having her ice-cream without it. Lex was the exception to every rule. Duh.
She smiled sweetly at the Professor. "Of course Professor, anything you say. You're the boss with the ice-cream." And she was the Gryffindor that did as she pleased. Pffft.
Reaching over, she grabbed a pair of gloves then slipped them on. Next she took a few blades of fluxweed and added seven of them just like she was instructed. That done she got 2 spoonfulls of poppyseeds and threw them in.
She didn't know these were used in syrups. What ever happened to plain old sugar???
She couldn't wait to see where this was going.

Annabeth was back to her cauldron to listening to Hecate's instructions attentively. So the teacher hadn't yelled at her for having a brief chat with the boy who had helped her. She gazed at the teacher, grinning. Professor Lafay didn't seemed to be the mean woman that everybody talk about. She was even sweet and all that she did was to try keeping the lesson under control. Which was a hard task with all that mess of students burning themselves or eating the potion, or even fainting! It remembered her that she should go on with the potion.
Gloves. My gloves are supposed to be here... where they are? The girl asked herself while searching for her gloves in her bag and was half way to raise her hand to ask the teacher if she could cast a spell to send the ingredients into the cauldron when she found the pair. They were dirty with mud as she had used them in the greenhouses. Quickly she took her wand and, before picking up the gloves from her bag, she pointed the wand toward them and said in a low voice: "Scourgify!" Once the spell had done its work, she wore her gloves and took the seven blades of fluxweed. Carefully she added them into her cauldron. She didn't want the blades tearing, turning to 8 pieces - as something could be wrong. It was really helpful that someone had already sliced the fluxweed, it had reminded her the first Potion's homework and all those ingredients she had to cut. This time it was easier. Let me see... Now, two spoonfulls of poppyseeds well measured. She added them into the cauldron, while counting "one... two. Done." She checked the fire, it was still low. Great. All she needed was the next instructions.

Mo gave Lafay a winning smile when she looked in his direction, feeling very grateful that she missed his exchange with Alice. Especially since Mo had been discussing his refusal to take the potion they were currently brewing. That would go over well.
Since his gloves were already on, Mo just tugged them tighter before slipping up to the potions cupboard to retrieve fluxweed and poppy seeds. Really? Poppy seeds on top of the river water? She must think they weren't paying attention or something.
Back at his desk, Mo carefully added the fluxweed without letting any of the blades touch his skin before dumping in the poppy seeds. Merlin. He gave Alice a side eye, since she seemed aware of the questionable ingredients, and pointed at the poppy seeds. Sort of a and THAT on top of the river water look.

Well, everything seems to be going well with the start of his current concoction. It smelt so nice to Wade, did he mention how tempting it was to have a little sample of everything? Well, that went out of his head when Professor Lafay addressed him.
He was a little surprise at the compliment, taking it with stride, as he beamed back. "Thanks, Professor" Guess that means no sneaking in tastes in between if he wants to stay on her good side. Heh.

Okay then. Get the fluxweed and poppyseeds in with the gloves on. Wade fetched his usual gloves slipping them on. Taking the fluxweed he added seven blades in, making sure no skin of his made contact with it. Then he carefully took two spoonfulls of the poppyseeds dropping it into the mix.

"No gossiping here, professor, just excitement for ice cream flavor enhancers and stuff." Alice looked back at Lafay blankly, heavy suspicion dripping from her voice. What did she have against the ice cream? It was perfect. She wasn't going to fall for the lady's trickery, most definitely.
Fluxweed, this time? Adding seven untouched blades into her cauldron with gloved fingers, she tried to recall the properties of this next ingredient. Healing.. she didn't need HEALING, Lafay. And.. changing? Somehow? It was used in the Polyjuice Potion, too, Alice knew that much. Two spoonfuls of poppy seeds went in next, and she didn't know any properties of those, so they went unscrutinized. Until Mo pointed at them. .. what did they do? What?

Alas, no the potion wasn't done. Sigh. Sky slid her gloves on and picked up the seven blades of fluxweed, dropping them carefully into the cauldron. Once that was done, she added the two spoonfuls of poppy seeds, then went back to staring around the room, watching people and waiting for the next set of instructions.
