The Transfiguration classroom was set up exactly as it usually was the only difference being that Professor Magnus' desk had been moved to the side of the room instead of being by the back wall. In it's place stood a large curtained cubicle with a raised floor, much like a shower. To the side of that is a little table, upon which sits a small bucket filled with shoelaces.
The professor is stood in the middle of the room, smile on her face and rocking back and forth on her heels, ready to great you.
OOC: My internet is coming and going due a fault on our phone line, so my replies might be infrequent. Please have your character enter though, take a seat, chat a little and I'll try and start class on time!
Oakey scratched his head and looked at the cubicle still entirely uncertain what it was going to be used for. So once Professor Magnus asked to have a volunteer Oakey raised his hand. "I'll step inside the shower-box-cubicle-thing." Oakey offered himself up. If it meant he'll finally know what it's purpose was he'll risk it.

Wasn't Professor Elwood like some kind of seer person? Couldn't she have seen that someone by the name of Alex Cambridge would show up and WANT to meet him then advise the Professor Magnus that she needed to hold off on that lesson for a while? GOSH!
She settled back in her seat and listened to the other suggestions until the time the Professor was ready to address them all. Her eyes grew wider and wider with each statement until finally THAT question was asked.
Hopefully it didn't come as a surprize to anyone to see the 12 year old suddenly hop out of her seat, hand waving like a mad persons.
No fear? That was totally HER. or well it was a work in progress but she wasn't afraid of water soooo... She eyed Oakey. No. He was older which meant he was probably here for the trip to visit the Giant Squid. Wasn't that enough for him? Now he wanted to rob her of this???
"I'll do it instead! Can I?!" Pleeeeaaaassse?
Oh, what to do.
Alexa seemed a bit sad she'd missed out on the lesson by the lake, and was incredibly eager to help with this. But Oakey had volunteered first. Both. Both was good.
"Okay, you two," Isabelle gestured to both of them, letting them know they could come up to stand by her side. "Seeing as you're so eager, Miss Cambridge, you can be the one to stand inside. Mister Gunter, you can do what I would have done and provide the water for the testing. That okay?" It would kind of have to be, because she said so.

He sat back in his chair, blinked a bit, and then raised his hand again. "Oh, and I think she volunteers. I see it in her eyes," he added, pointing at the evil pushing girl, Lotus somethingoranother. Little Miss Pushy would suffice. Names weren't important anyway.
As Issy pulled the table with the bucket on over around to the front, she looked up as some more questions were asked of her. That was okay, she could answer them as she fiddled getting things ready.
"Not really stopping a leak, no. More like something that will keep the water off you."

Volunteer. Guinea pig. That's Oakey for you, people. A grin crept across her face as she patted her seatmate on the back, "Go guinea pig." Oh! Maybe she'd start calling him that. Guinea pig. Heh. Anyway, hand up because she decided that it won't be too bad to join on the guessing just for the sake of it. "Professor, are we going to be transfiguring the shoelaces into raincoats?"
You know, it would prevent someone from getting wet. That was her lame brilliant idea. Mhmm.
Ahh, raincoats. That was the best guess yet. But still wrong.
"It's not raincoats, no. But you're getting closer."

BINGO!
"An umbrella is exactly what we'll be doing today, well done Alyssa. Although one shoelace is what will be used, I've just got a few in case there are any mistakes. The spokes themselves should grow out of the end, as you'll see in a second."
Isabelle removed the bucket from the table and placed it on the floor, keeping one of the laces in her hand and stretching it out on the now empty table.

To be polite, and as unobtrusive as he could possibly be in such a situation, he gave Professor Magnus a polite nod, with his ever charming toothy grin. He was HERE. So ... she could WOW him now.
He observed keenly, as students ENGAGED with the lesson topic... something about showers and wetness... but ok.
Another evaulator? Okay. That was fine. He was standing there, out of the way. Lesson could move forwards.
She gave him a nod of acknowledgement, straightening herself up and moving around the back of the table.
With the two kids now by her side, she shifted them around slightly so they could see as well as the others. They'd need to do the spell as well after all.
"Okay, now as Alyssa guessed, we'll be making umbrellas today. Plastic framed ones to be exact as they're easier to produce. The spell will elongate the shoelace, one end will curve to form a handle and the other will separate into spokes and a covering. With any luck." She chuckled. With any luck. Yes. And then Alexa wouldn't get wet. No, she'd done this spell loads of times, it was more the kids doing it for the first time that might need to be concerned. They had worn clothes they didn't mind getting wet, right?
Holding her wand directly over the straightened out shoelace, she drew a line in the air, finishing it by going down and then up diagonally, as if tracing a small triangle at the end. "Protegamur Aqua!" The words came out at the same time as she did the wand movement. And just as she'd said the shoelace started to change slowly.
After a few seconds though, a fully formed and brightly coloured rainbow umbrella was laying across the table. But it was closed. And now she had to open it to make sure there were no holes. A quick push upwards of the prongs and it opened to show a large umbrella, big enough to cover her and perhaps one other person.
Isabelle twirled it around before handing it over to Alexa with a smile. "Now, Miss Cambridge, if you wouldn't mind stepping inside the cubicle with this. Oakey, if you could just produce a shower of water over the top of the curtain with your wand, we'll see how well it holds up."

Umbrellas! Beam! She totally knew it! Well...after the whole wigs and hair salon things but yeah, she was right! This was a really useful thing to learn too as the spring tended to be quite rainy around here and Ella could use a nice new umbrella. Yup, this was going to be fun.
The blonde scribbled down the incantation and wand movement after watching Professor Magnus do it, smiling a little to herself. Hopefully Oakey would be able to make a nice umbrella for Lex so she didn't get soaked.
Also...if they needed partners later Ella would have to find someone to work with. Hmmm...

So they were making.. Umbrellas? Wade smirked at the thought of someone having to take off their shoes incase of a rainstorm. Maybe he should've volunteered after all, instead of sitting idly as the class went by..
Oh well. Wade instead wrote down the incantation in his notes and waited for the demonstration.

An umbrella? West had heard of another umbrella spell, but it didn't work with spokes and shoelaces. Oh and what? The incantation was something about a water shield. Well that was fun. He had a question already too. Hand up!
"Does the shoelace get thicker?" Or just longer? Basically, would it be comfier to hold than just a shoelace?
He kept his eyes on the demonstration, wanting to see Alexa get SOAKED and FAIL. Mhmm.

Of course! Umbrellas, I knew it! She opened her notepad to start taking things down. Another classic example of me choosing to be quiet when I should've said something. Very typical of her, not knowing when to keep things to herself, and when things were okay to be audible. Oh well, next time maybe.
SPOILER!!: Eliza's Transfiguration Notes
Eliza Dawnsel
Second Year - Ravenclaw
How to make an umbrella:
Lay a shoe string out flat, in a straight line
Cast spell Protegamur Aqua
Wand movement for Protegamur Aqua:
Make line in air, then finish it with a triangle
Now was that just making a triangle...or was it a line...then down...and up diagonally, which makes a triangle....and then keep going to so you have room to make another triangle at the end? What? She hoped she could see another example before they had to practice on anyone.

Alyssa breathed a sigh of relief when Professor Magnus confirmed that her assumption i.e that they would be transfiguring the shoe lace into umbrellas. She watched as the Professor demonstrated how it was supposed to be done and wah-lah she had a rainbow colored umbrella in her hand. Now it was time to test it.
She was confident that Professor Magnus' transfigured umbrella wouid pass the tesr. she just hoped that Oakey's luck was holding up and that he would be able to control the amount of water flowing out of the wand and not end up flooding the entite classroom.
While Alyssa waited for the experiment to start, she quickly wrote down the wand movements and the incantation into her journal.
Text Cut: How to transfigure a shoe lace into an umbrella
1. Hold wand directly over the straightened shoelace.
2. Draw a line in the air, finish it by going down and then up diagonally as if tracing out a small triangle over the shoelace.
3. Say incantation,"Protegamur Aqua" while performing the wand movements.

When the Professor was done explaining and giving the instructions she took the umbrella--such a pretty one too--ahem, right, she took the umbrella and practically hopped into the cubicle thingy. Umbrellas? That wasn't nearly as exciting as snakes, but Mo was willing to give it a chance. For one, Lex was probably about to get soaked. For the other, West looked into it, and West wasn't ever wrong. And for the other other, new spells were awesome, even if Mo would rather just get wet when it rained.
All his attention was on the professor, her shower stall, and the experiment that was about to happen with Lex and some Hufflepuff guy. Was she expected to cast the spell perfectly the first time, or else get wet?
"You can do it, Lex," Mo encouraged with a little fist pump.

Lily just kinda listened as everyone guessed what they were going to do with the shoelace. Shoelaces were a unexpected item to use for transfiguration. The only use Lily had had for them was to lace up her sneakers. Now she could owl her parents and tell them that she had other uses for her old shoelaces.
It was only when the professor asked for a volunteer that the fourth year remembered that she needed to focus on the class. She couldn't help but smirk at the fact that they were somehow going to make skinny little shoelaces into a whole umbrella.
Oh! And the little lion that liked to cause trouble could possibly get wet! This could be interesting...

Sheesh...It wasn't like he was about to transfigure the cubicle into a whole roller coaster ride. Removing his wand Oakey held his wand up at an angle and said "Aguamenti." His arm jerked back slightly as a heavy stream of water shot from the tip of his wand and over top the curtain where Alexa was standing.
It seemed Oakey forget that this wand was different in that it really went overboard with the water conjuring spell. Hopefully Alexa didn't mind having loads of water hit her rather than a shower. Flicking his wand down quickly the heavy stream of water ceased from shooting out of his wand and onto Alexa.

She wondered whether Alexa had enough time use Professor Magnus' umbrella to keep her dry. Alyssa tried to peek into the cubicle to see whether she was sopping wet or totally dry, and to her dismay saw a totally soaked Alexa.
"Alexa, you can dry yourself by using the drying spell. The incantation is Siccus Aerous. It works really well and it's faster than using a towel"Alyssa called out to Alexa just in case she wanted to get dry before coming out of the cubicle.

Well she wasn't chosen, but that's okay. Maybe next time. She was giving way for the others to prove themselves 'awesome'. The volunteers were Lex and Oakey. Kat had mixed emotions about those. Lex, her fake!sister, was cool so Kat didn't worry about her getting soaked. Oakey, however. He didn't have the right to talk to Kat, Mordred, or anyone the way he did during the Welcoming Feast despite him being Prefect for his house. The Slytherin still hadn't fully forgiven him, though. He still had to apologise.
Kat watched as Lex got into the shower and Oakey accidentally sent Aguamenti at her. Whoops? Luckily Lex had that umbrella. Consider yourself LUCKY, Oakey Gunter. Kat was just taking down notes and occasionally doodling. What an easy demonstration, though. Hmm... okay.

Not raincoats, but umbrellas. She could live with that, long as the guessing games were over. Hearing Professor Magnus address the class, Beezus offered her full attention just as Oakey and Alexa were called up front for the demonstration. Two guinea pigs. Heh.
That was a rather cute-looking umbrella, was it not? Rainbow-colored. Beezus grinned as she scribbled down on her notes the incantation that was used along with its corresponding attributes. She'd finish just in time for the young lioness to take the newly-transfigured umbrella and step into the cubicle.
...And there came Oakey with his 'Aguamenti' which obviously wasn't the best of the load. As this happened, Beezus' eyes immediately darted to Alexa and assessed if the umbrella worked. IT DID. But the ickle purposely let go of it. She couldn't help but shake her head and chuckle softly whilst in her seat. Well, that was a fun demo. It appeared to be pretty easy too. Hopefully, her deeming wasn't going to be proven otherwise once Professor Magnus ask them to pair up.

Issy stepped back after giving Alexa the umbrella. As much as she had faith in Oakey's ability to conjure water, she didn't think it would necessarily all stay inside the cubicle.
And she'd been right. Thanks to a slightly wayward aim and an over excited Gryffindor, the floor got wetter than she wanted it to. But she also couldn't help but laugh at the way Alexa was taking joy in being wet.
"Miss Cambridge, I wasn't planning on you getting that soaked! Quickly dry yourself off before you get cold. You can have more shot at you later, when you test your own umbrellas." Isabelle ushered the girl out of the cubicle and back to her seat, conjuring a towel to go along with the spell Alyssa had suggested she use.
"Thank you both for that. I'm glad it did work - would have been slightly embarrassing for me if it hadn't." Especially with two evalutors in the room.
She bent down to pick up the discarded umbrella and shook off the excess water, rolling it back up to it's closed form.

He kept his eyes on the demonstration, wanting to see Alexa get SOAKED and FAIL. Mhmm.
Issy ran her hand down the length of the handle as West asked his question, nodding at him as she did so. "Yes, it does slightly, see?" She walked over to his desk and held it out for him to look at. "It's not by much, but it rounds out and thickens as the ends extend themselves."
With the demo over, the kids could finally get started on making their own. Placing the one she'd done over on her desk, Issy flicked her wand and cleaned up the excess water coating the floor. Don't want anyone slipping up.
"Alrighty then. Please come up and get yourselves a handful of shoelaces, then you can start with practice. I'd like you to try to make more than one, so you end up with a few different styles and patterns excetera. Then a little later you'll get the chance to test them like we did just then."
She waved her hands to let them know they could approach for the things they needed.
That girl was... completely soaked. Rachel stared in shock at Alexa, wondering what herself would look like at the end of the day. Maybe the same... if she had luck.
She stood up and calmly walked towards the professor's desk. She picked up some shoelaces and went back to her seat.
Rachel stared at the shoelaces in her own desk. She could do it, of course she could. What was the spell? Something with aqua and protego it was... uh... oh yes! Protegamur Aqua!
Excited, she picked up her wand and pointed it to one of the shoelaces. The Ravenclaw concentrated and copied the professor gestures. A line in the air, down and then up diagonally, while saying the spell - Protegamur Aqua!.
The shoelace trembled, and slowly changed into a different thing. But - and Rachel was sure of that - that wasn't the kind of umbrella the professor had asked for. The umbrella now on her hands was a tiny umbrella. The one that was usually served with drinks.
Sophie wanted one of those! Professor Magnus never failed to Transfigure nice things! The girl skipped her way to the front and got a handful of shoelaces just like the older witch had told them to do. She was supposed to be practicing the incantation over and over in her head, but truly, she was just thinking of how pretty her own umbrella would be! Just like professor Magnus'!
The Hufflepuff went back to her desk and sat down. It was protego-something, right? What was the word again?
Before she could understand what was going on she was being shot at by a heavy stream of water. YES! Oakey's clumsiness came in handy afterall!!!!! She squealed and giggled in delight, shifting the umbrella so it could do it's job without having it be so much in the way that she wouldn't get wet. It worked! An inspired idea Professor. Point proven...aaaaaaand she dropped the umbrella. WATER PARTY!!!!
The giggling finally died down when the shooting water was no more. Awww. She was soaking wet and had a wide grin across her face.
"That was fantastic! Can we do it again?! Totally epic!!--oh...and the umbrella worked Professor!" Nod nod nod. BEAM.
"Do you think you could shoot water at me again???"
Alice failed to silently snicker at the soaked Alexa. Even though they were close friends, she couldn't swallow the laughter in her throat.
"Bwahaha!" she cackled, "good job Lex!"
Though the reality of it was that, it was just practice so it didn't really matter to, to much. Really, she needs to stop thinking like that, it's not cute to be so serious when you're so young.

Alyssa smiled the moment Professor Magnus told them that they could start practicing on making their own umbrellas. She walked up to the box containing the shoe laces and grabbed a handful of shoelaces before going back to where she was seated. She checked her journal to remind her what the wand movement and the incantation was.
Text Cut: Alyssa's Transfiguration Journal
How to transfigure a shoe lace into an umbrella:
1. Hold wand directly over the straightened shoelace.
2. Draw a line in the air, finish it by going down and then up diagonally as if tracing out a small triangle over the shoelace.
3. Say incantation,"Protegamur Aqua" while performing the wand movements.
Alyssa first decided to practice the wand movement. She placed the shoe lace flat on the table in front of her making sure that it was straightened out neatly. Then imagining like she was holding her wand in her hand, she held her "wand" directly over the shoe lace and then drew a line in the air from left to right, then down towards the left diagonally and then back up diagonally towards the right, like she was tracing a small triangle over the shoe lace.
Alyssa practiced the wand movements a few times before moving on to the incantation. She pronounced it clearly and carefully. "Protegamur Aqua...Protegamur Aqua....Protegamur Aqua."
Now Alyssa practiced both the wand movement and the incantation together. Still using her finger, she drew her triangle while saying the incantation at the same time. She completed drawing the last line just as she finished saying Aqua. Perfect Timing. Alyssa practiced a few more times before she decided that she would attempt making her first umbrella.
First she needed to decide what kind of umbrella she wanted to transfigure the shoe lace into. When she had the image of the umbrella in her mind, Alyssa concentrated on that image and every detail of the umbrella. Unholstering her wand, she held it directly over the shoe lace and while concentrating on the image and what she wanted the transfiguration spell to do, Alyssa began casting the spell.
Drawing a line across the shoe lace from left to right, she then shifted direction and drew a line downwards diagonally from right to left and then moved her wand back up drawing another line diagonally towards the left until it joined the line she had first drawn. All the time while she was performing the wand movements, Alyssa was at the same time saying the incantation, "Protegamur Aqua". She ended the wand movement at the same time as she finished saying the incantation.
A beam of light shot out from her wand and glowed over the shoe lace in front of her. Alyssa watched as the shoe lace stretched, with one end curving to form a handle and the other end separating into spokes and then a blue covering, until in front of her lay a blue paper cocktail umbrella
Alyssa laughed as she opened it. This definitely wasn't what she had imagined her umbrella to be. Although it did look nice, there was no way that it would keep her dry. She'd be lucky if it kept a strand of her hair dry. She continued to giggle to herself as she looked at the cocktail umbrella. It was too cute to transform back to a shoe lace, so Alyssa decided that she would keep it. Closing it, she placed it aside.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
As soon as Professor Magnus gave the go ahead, Jory went off to get the shoelaces. Once back at his seat, he read the instructions he had written down earlier on how to transfigure the umbrella.
He carefully laid out one of the laces and pointed his wand directly at it. "Protegamur Aqua!'' the badger said, making the complicated wand movement- a line and then tracing his wand down and then diagonally upwards.
Jory watched as the lace shudder at first and then begin to change. Slowly but surely, he could see a handle forming. No shaded part as yet but it was progress. And then! Progress ceased! All the boy had in front of him was one brown, curved handle. "That'll be useful for the weather,'' he thought sarcastically.

"Good show, good show!"
See? She wasn't the only one who thought getting soaked was hilarious. She just KNEW that Alice would agree with her so she grinned over at her. "Gee, thanks Alice! We should work on getting you soaked next!!" And she meant that, like legit she did. It was too much fun for her to have her friend not know what it was like!
"Maybe you can ask Oakey to aim at you next."
He wouldn't mind would he, seeing as he had no problem drenching her.

"Okay Professor!" And the woman got a BEAM too. Once they partnered up she'd be able get water shot at her again!!! But wait...if she was going to get wet again then what was the point in drying off? Meh. It just meant she'd be able to get soaked all over again. It wasn't the same if she was already wet you know so she gladly took the towel and got back to her seat. That spell would just about come in handy right now...maybe she should have listened when Alyssa was talking... "Ummm...how did that spell go again...?" She asked as she began drying her hair.
She looked over to the Professor who was now giving them instructions to collect the straws. What the--
But she was just coming from up there! Instructions like that would have been appreciated if they were given sooner. Still. She wanted to hurry back to the squirting portion of the class so she would make the walk back over. After grabbing a handful she returned to her seat...stiiiiiiiill waiting on someone to remind her of that spell. If not then she'd have to do the whole manual drying thing...or stay wet. Whichever.
Okay. Time for a first attempt, yes?
She stuck all but one of them in her pocket then placed that one on the table. "Protegamur Aqua!" which was accompanied by the triangle looking wand movement.
She watched curiously as the straw began to expand and shift but made a face when she realized it didn't do much else. SIGH. So this year's transfigurations wouldn't be any different from last year's, huh? "Reverto." And again.

Wow... Alexa liked getting wet... Lily never understood why some people liked getting soaked and others didn't. She was one of the ones who disliked getting wet unless she was swimming or something like that. Rainy quidditch matches were fine too, but not just plain old rain. After spacing out again, the fourth year noticed the others getting up to get their shoelaces, so Lily did the same.
Taking three for now, Lily gave a little smile to the professor before returning to her seat. She placed each shoelace down on her desk in a straight line while she visualized what she wanted to do. Once she figured that out, she would start, so for now she just tried to think of what she wanted to do.

Oichi looked over her brilliant piece of mess, half lace, half umbrella handle and raised her wand, "Reverto", the mess soon became a shoe lace again. Well atleast I know that spell beyond a shadow of a doubt. Now to get this new one right. Oichi concentrated harder and with a wave of her wand in a triangle motion, "Protegamur Aqua", the shoe lace began to expand and soon the handle formed and then she saw the top of the umbrella expand out but only on one side, "Errrr!!!" Oh well, at least I'm getting better. One more go and I should have it.
There's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for| LOTR|Whovian|Sherlock Fan
Alyssa picked up another shoe lace and lay it on the desk in front of her, making sure that it was lined up straight. 'Okay now we need a big adult sized umbrella. Not a intsy winsy one.' Alyssa thought to herself as she closed her eyes and concentrated on what she wanted her umbrella to look like. Once she had an image of the umbrella in her mind, she continued thinking about that umbrella as she held her wand directly over the shoe lace and began casting the spell.
While she drew a straight line in the air with her wand followed by a diagonal line slanting downwards and then another diagonal slanting upwards until she had traced out an imaginary triangle, she simultaneously at the same time said the incantation,"Protegamur Aqua".
She watched as another beam shot out from her wand and hit the shoe lace which then began to lengthen out. One end grew larger and curved to form the handle, while the other end began to separate into the many spokes forming the frame...but the cover didn't form over it!!
Alyssa had failed in her second attempt because in front of her lying on the table was the metal frame of the umbrella but not the umbrella itself.
Alyssa sighed and pointing her wand at her failed transfiguration attempt of an umbrella, she said, "REVERTO" changing it back into a shoe lace. Alyssa shrugged. She still had lots of time to practice perfecting the spell. 'Hey at least I got the size right this time.' she thought to herself optimistically.
The grin on Alice's face froze, the corner of her lips twitched comically and a light blush painted on her already rosey cheeks.
"A-Ahh... I think, not." she quickly sputtered, returning to the work at hand.
She quickly jumped from her seat and picked up a bit of the lace and returned to her seat as fast as she had gotten up.
Doing the spell wasn't goin to be very hard for her, her family's subject of expertice was Transfiguration, more specifically where animals were concerned. So with ease she lifted her wand, glared at the bit of interlockingly woven strings and slowly traced an imaginary triangle in the air.
"Protegamur Aqua," she softly whispered to it.
The lace shifted and moved, expanding and contracting, bending and twisting. Unil it became a soft pink Victorian Parasol. Alice glared at it wih a black enough expression but it could be easily seen through her eyes the long string of profanities that her brother taugher her (inderectly ofcourse). She let out a deep sigh.
"Reverto" she muttered, watching as the mocking parasol returned to beig a lowly bit lace once more.
