When you first enter the Muggle Studies classroom, you can instantly hear National Anthems and Marches from all over the world playing softly in the background. There are a variety of national flags hanging from the rafters and a soft breeze has been charmed to blow the flags slightly occasionally. Around the room are campaign posters, both Muggle and Wizards, from centuries in the past.
Professor Cerulean is at the front of the classroom flipping through a Muggle magazine looking up occasionally watching students enter the classroom. On the board is a simple greeting,
"Welcome to Muggle Studies and get ready to Rock the Vote!"
On each desk, there is glass of red and blue layered jello with whipped cream and a white spoon. Beside the glass, is a cup of cherry Muggle kool-aid.
Come in and have a bite and wait for class to get started!
OOC: Class will start later this evening! Come in, have a seat and a bite, and start some conversations. See you in a lil while.
"So think about how important Hogwarts is to you and maybe some of the issues or great things you see at Hogwarts, if you were the Master of Ceremony at the Debate, what questions would you like to ask the Candidates for the Board of Governors?" she asked as she wrote the word Questions and underlined it on the board.
Melody raised her hand, "I want to know if they would do anything about the dress code... I personally think we should given a little more freedom to what we choose to wear, but with in reasonable limits of course."

Alyssa listened and understood what everybody was saying. Like every organization there is a board of directors or like in this case of Hogwarts, a Board of Governors. They help make sure that things stay on track and that the money that is allocated to the organization or the school is wisely spent and that the sole purpose of the school and the educators was to educate the students and prepare them for the future. She understood all that...and the need to have them around. But why so visible now? But that was a question to be answered at another time.
Her question for them would be, and Alyssa raised her hand. "Professor I would ask them, if they found something that needs changing, would they consult the staff and the students first before making a change...I mean like gather a general consensus...before they implement the change?" and she paused to consider Milton's question.
"Yes I agree with Milton on that too. What makes them think that they should be the one voted in? What makes them think that they are better or more qualified than the rest?"

Alex knew what he'd ask the candidates--he had to ask it before casting an educated vote! He raised his hand. "I'd ask them what qualifications they have. Just because you were a student doesn't mean you know how a school works. I'd like someone who is an educator or at least has some experience in a leadership position to make informed decisions," he explained with a head nod.

Alice bobbed her head back and forth looking for a suitable question, one that would evoke a sincere reply but not too personal.
"Would asking the ties they hold to the school count?" she asked softly, "I mean, in some schools, especially in the muggle ones, their's such thing a "PTA" or Parent Teacher Association, where the parents whether they be past students or just parents of past students come together to donate whatever the school requires."
She paused, realizing she was drifting from the point just a tad.
"So my question would be, what do their plans for the future of the school, what they would do to further our education system. I mean, they could just be in it for the big office and the shiny plaque"
Lord knows she would; a big office, a shiny gold plaque with her name on it and an insecure lacky that would do everything she said. Yep, livin' the good life indeed.

Lex shot forward in her seat when the pictures started showing up. Obviously she didn't know most of them...she didn't care to either because politics was for boring old people BUT she did do a kinda squeal at a certain face. "Ooooo, Mr. Vinteren!" GRIN. Such a nice man he was and she would never stop saying that because it was true! The man was so kind and considerate and knew how to give a compliment which made him really good in her book.
Hold on.
Debate in Hogsmeade? Why was this all news to her? How come no one bothered to tell her this stuff? It was things like this that made her remain clueless you know.
"I'd probably wanna know how they'd treat the students. I mean they'll be working closely with the school and the last I check, students were in schools. I'd have to ask what type of relationship they'd want with the students because it'd be really ruuuude if they just walked pass us going about their days without so much as a hi." Didn't anyone agree?
"Also, Mr. Vinteren walks around with chocolate frogs in his pockets...I'd wanna know if the others did that too because then it's be hard to make up my mind on who to vote for." The voice of chocolate was remarkably loud--no body question it!

Pausing, she walked towards the board and flipped it so it was clean, "So think about how important Hogwarts is to you and maybe some of the issues or great things you see at Hogwarts, if you were the Master of Ceremony at the Debate, what questions would you like to ask the Candidates for the Board of Governors?" she asked as she wrote the word Questions and underlined it on the board.
Jory raised his hand. "I would ask them what they plan to do to make Hogwarts even more enjoyable for students not only in classes but also for time when they need to relax.'' Because one could not simply work all the time. "Also, some students learn faster than others. So I would ask them how would they plan for the slower learners to keep up with the faster one.'' Of course, there was nothing wrong with being a slow learner.
Gemma smiled at each of the students' answers...she found it interesting how you could tell alot about each of their personalities and priorities through their answers. She jotted a few of the questions down on a piece of scroll and rolled it up and put it in her back pocket. Then she flipped the board over one more time and erased the notes and said, "Those are great questions. I hope ya'll are planning on coming to the Debate in Hogsmeade. Some of your questions may be the ones asked to the candidates." she said excitedly.
"Great job at thinking critically about issues that are important to each of you. Well,, that takes us to the end of our first lesson..." she turned and started writing on the board, "At our next lesson, we will focus on campaign slogans and such."
She finished writing, "As you go out, pay attention to all of the candidates that you come in contact with and see if they are doing various things to cater to you such as giving candy, as some of you have mentioned, or just taking special interest in issues that are important to your age of students...and we'll discuss what you've noticed at our next lesson..." she paused and glanced at the homework and then finished, "Thanks for coming and I hope to see you all at the debate in Hogsmeade."

Create a Campaign speech for yourself as if you were running for the Board of Governors. Your speech should be one parchment long (5 paragraphs with atleast 4 sentences in each). Your speech should include your slogan, a brief introduction to yourself, your qualifications, and what you are promising to do if elected as a Board member. Have fun and be creative with this!

Using a Graphics program of your choice, create a campaign poster for yourself as a Candidate for the Board of Governors. Make sure you include your name, a slogan that represents yourself and your campaign, and a picture of yourself
OOC: I'm going to leave this open for a few days so in case you want to catch up you can. Just make sure you put Catch Up in the Title so I know to grade your posts. Thanks everyone!

Alyssa was disappointed that class had ended. ' Just when things were getting interesting too.' she thought to herself. But then again the Professor had mentioned that they would be talking more about this subject in another lesson, so she was definitely excited to hear that.
Packing up her things, Alyssa walked up to Professor Cerulean. "Thanks for an interesting lesson, Professor. It's been a long time since we were allowed to have a friendly debate like West and I had earlier. I really liked it alot. I look forward to your next lesson." Alyssa smiled her thanks before exiting the classroom.

Kat understood this more like... 'winning' a vote, except it had something bad about it. Hmm yes, it was something interesting to tackle in class but she didn't know that much. At least, she didn't know any specific event. The blonde listened to her Muggle Studies professor and the lady shared to them about her experience. A... snog zone? That was... interesting-ish. Not that Kat would try it out... You know. Alright. Answer time. "Some candidates or politicians tend to pay voters with money in exchange for their vote." No further comment.

Questions they'd ask for the candidates? Kat knew Cerulean was heading this little BoG club thingy so maybe their questions were being taken in account. COOL. But it was at Hogsmeade though, and Kat... well, she didn't have any plans set to visit the town. Weird, right? But true. Really true. She was going to be staying back here at the castle and do boring stuff like doing homework. Gosh.
Ahem, she was also watching the slideshow thing with all the candidates in it. She ONLY knew Professor Schirmer so far cos she taught Charms before and the woman was dang good at it.
And the question. "I'd ask what their plans and suggestions are for the school. I bet some of them at least DO have plans beforehand." After all, she knew lots have signed up for it and that only chosen ones were lucky so these lucky candidates were actually good.

Blinkblinkblink.
That was it? So they went to class just to discuss about candidates. And then the next class, they'd tackle about slogans. Kat sighed. It wasn't like it was boring, you know. It was actually interesting in a way, but she felt like it was too short to even be a class. As in... TOO short. It had been more about questions and Cerulean only threw about 5 questions only.
SHORT.
The blonde finished off her jello with the whip cream. It wasn't BAD for a Muggle treat. Oh... wait. "Thanks for the lesson, Professor Cerulean. I'll be keeping an eye around Hogwarts," she assured the woman with a nod. "And... may I bring this out? I haven't finished it yet," she said as she showed her cup with Kool Aid. She was too caught up with the lesson to be able to drink from it. Besides, Cerulean was too Hufflepuff to hurt her wouldn't hurt her for asking. Right? She'll return it to her at her office afterwards.

Some of her fellow students sure knew a lot of history and elections. Things like that didn't always interest her, but maybe they would hold her attention more now that they had gone over some of them in class. She hadn't really been paying much attention to the Board of Candidates election either, but now all this talk had her wondering what they were like. She wished she could meet each of them, though she didn't really know what she would say. She thought about it and then raised her hand to answer the question.
"I suppose I would just want to put them all in a room together and see how they behave. Maybe ask them something like...who their favorite wizard of all time is and why. Something they're really passionate about - you know, so you could see if someone is really pushy or rude, or feels like they have to argue all the time and not be civil and calm about it. Even though they sort of just make suggestions for how the school is run, I wouldn't want someone on the board who doesn't respect other people and the ways others' opinions might be different from their own." That was a pretty big thing for her about people in general though, not just adult candidates.
Maybe I will go to the debate now...just to see. She nodded at Cerulean's request to pay attention to the candidates around the school. Well I definitely won't be swayed with candy, that's for sure, she thought seriously. Not only did she not really care about candy a whole lot, she thought it was unprofessional to try to bribe kids for a vote or something.
"Thank you for the lesson Professor, it was interesting," she said before leaving the room. It had been more thought provoking than she had expected actually, and that was always good in her mind.

"18 here, Professor," Alice told her, along with many of the other students. But, really? Was she expected to pay attention to other places, too? SO many things these professors wanted her to know. It seemed that they were just supposed to learn everything outside of class and come to the lesson and spout out loads of answers.
Well, SHE was not capable of that.

Age? For THIS election? Well, Alice wanted to be able to vote, obviously, so it had to be pretty young. "I'd say anyone at Hogwarts should be able to, Professor," she stated, EYEING the people who had named any age older than fourteen. "It's our school, yeah? So everyone who goes here should get a say if they want." Like HER.
Ahem.

Alice tilted her head as the professor went on to describe some kind of Hogwarts student government. While she didn't have any answers about what the professor had asked, she DID have comments on that little story. "Snogging zones would be absolutely repulsive, professor." Just saying. And though that didn't have anything at all to do with the election talk, Alice felt the need to say it.
Just so no one would get any ideas about snogging zones NOW.
Because no. That was disgusting.

Questions? Alice ALWAYS had questions. "I'd ask why they were running, like everyone else, of course." That one was kind of obvious. "I'd want to know what their qualifications were, what their plans for the school were, all that." What else could she think of? Hmm. "Y'know what I think would be another good question to ask? Like, if they had to pick ONE, and only ONE issue that they think Hogwarts had to fix, what would it be and how would they go about fixing it? It's kind of like asking about their plans, but I think it's better to ask for only one, so we know what their priorities are."
Breaaaathe. Okay. That was enough talking for a bit.
.. oh, the lesson was over already? Oh. Well. Okay. At least she hadn't fallen asleep this time, yeah?
