Melanie was ready to put her head down on the desk and doze off. Honestly, she was. Then she heard someone call her Melon and tensed up a little bit. Because that was... no. She wasn't going to think about it. She couldn't think about it. If she did think about it, she- no. Nope. No. She wasn't. She just put a smile back on her face as she looked at the younger girl. "You can have it," Melanie said, pushing the jello closer to Alice and away from herself. "You can have the drink too, but I want to keep the spoon."

Melanie stuck the spoon in her mouth and bit down on it. She didn't know why she wanted to do that... she just did.

The elder Gryffindor was about to put her head down on the table before she heard someone speak. What...? Melanie had never seen the girl before, then again, Hogwarts was a giant school so that was no surprise. She just waved her hand to say hello, and gestured to the girl to take a seat. There was nothing wrong with sitting. Plus, Melanie was too tired to think much of it. Melanie just placed her bag on the desk, and rested her chin on it... spoon still in her mouth.

When would class be over? She kinda wanted to go back to the dorm and snuggle with Mister Bear under the covers...

Cassandra Rae-Branxton was certainly a fan of the concept these evaluations, but in practice... that was another matter. And Muggle Studies, a class that Cassandra already found to be woefully lacking in disciplined subject matter. She wanted the lovely professor to impress her... and it was nice to be away from home and her cranky oldest child.

So then. This was exactly where she wanted to be, now wasn't it? Even if she wasn't feeling particularly festive at the moment.

Cassandra took a seat in the back of the room, giving the professor a polite nod. She wasn't going to be disturbing anyone or anything today, so everyone should just ignore her.

After a couple moments of calm breathing weren't working for the seventh year, Violet tried closing her eyes this time. She softly muttered,"...Alright.." Violet then proceeded to take a DEEP breath, and hold it in for a couple of moments almost like she was trying that thing people do when their trying to get rid of hiccups of something. When she could no longer hold her breath, she let it out slowly and then she smiled a little bit feeling slightly better.

As Violet was preparing to open her eyes the sound of a voice came up out of literally nowhere, making Violet almost scream at the top of her lungs! But instead her eyes opened as quickly as ever, to see it was a boy, from Slytherin as it seemed. What was he had just said...OH MERLIN HE witnessed her clumsy moment?! Ughh, just perfect. Violet wanted to go on a rant and make up an excuse for her unfortunate moment, blaming it on the unevenness of the flooring causing the desk to move itself into Violet's path, causing her to almost tumble over. But she didn't seem to need to explain herself, because this guy had already moved on to ask if he could see beside her. Violet then raised an eyebrow, and looked at the desk beside her that he was gesturing towards. She then asked,"Sit there?" Violet gave a kind of puzzled look and slowly shrugged her shoulders saying slowly,"I...guess?" She then offered a friendly smile towards the boy as she waited for him to sit down.

Hmm...where did she recognize him from?

In the list of things that Anya Phillips loved... muggle studies was in the top... range... of things. Why didn't it have an exact number? Because. Things like... putting forth the effort needed to make a list and... prioritizing... those things were NOT on the list of things she loved.

But anyway. She loved muggle studies. She got points for things she already knew. And there was usually food. So YAY!

She practically skipped into the classroom. "Hello Professor." she greeted before finding a random seat. Oooh. Jello and... koolaid? Yum.

Nerida entered the muggle studies classroom. She had been looking forward to muggle studies ever since the term started!! She smiled as she saw the decor, looks like the Professor had gone all out with the vote them...Muggle and wizarding posters...And the song..That sounded patriotic...

Seeing the jello on everyones desk and the red liquid she smiled..How did the Professor know she was starving...It was never good to skip breakfast!! "Hello Professor, I hope you summer was fantastic!" After saying a hello to the professor she found a seat near the somewhat front and took a bite out of the jello...Yummy!! Best Professor evers!!

Muggle Studies! Zhenya beamed at the thought. She had not had a muggle studies lesson in over a year! They didn't teach it in Russia, much to her disappointment. Although, maybe it was good - Professor Cerulean was certainly a great Professor. Would she really want to be taught the same subject by anyone else? Unlikely.

As she entered the room she took in all the familiar scenery and set ups. Well, it was never the same, so far as she remembered. Professor Cerulean had an excellent way of making every lesson appear different in the class. Yep, she was definitely excited to be there.

"Hello Professor Cerulean. I hope you had a good Summer!" Zhenya greeted.

She turned and found a seat.

Muggle Studies. Ira yet couldn't decide whether she liked the subject or not.. Not that she didn't like muggles, quite the opposite, seeing she herself was muggleborn, but the subject was boring for her. It just wasn't as interesting as Arithmancy for her.

But still, she came in just for Professor Cerulean. Well, she was nice. And the one who made such a subject interesting to study. Entering the class, she smiled and greeted, "Hello Professor Cerulean! Had a nice summer?"

Then she went towards the back benches and just as she was about to sit down, she noticed a familiar face. o__O Was that Zhenya?

Beaming, she tapped on her friend's shoulder.


"ZHENYA!!!" she shouted a bit loudly, and then lowered her voice a bit, "Where were you??!!"

Kat knew a few things about Muggles. She had friends that are Muggles and she's been to Muggle England a couple of times. The place was nice, for sure. Lots of Muggle places were worth it apparently. Muggle Studies was also another way for Kat to connect to their world.

The Slytherin entered the room with a smile on her face. "Good day, Professor Cerulean," she greeted with a warm smile. She also noticed the pretty woman she met at the BoG Meet and Greet at the back of the room. Kat sent a smile to the lady, too. So what were they going to be doing today? Surely with the president of the Board of Governors present, the class would be fun right? Sitting on her usual seat, she noticed... a translucent-ish thing with whipped cream on top of it on her table. And some drink that, if not mistaken, was Kool-Aid. Kat stared at the things on her table for a while before finally thanking the Professor. "Thanks for the food, by the way." She slid in her seat and examined the thing on her table and raised her fork to poke it. It went JIGGLY! It was actually jello. Kat poked with it one more time before finally deciding to eat it. The jello... was actually okay. And... Kool-Aid? Nah, maybe later.

Gemma’s eyes rose up and she instantly became nervous as she saw not one...but two...Board of Governors walked into her classroom. She debated getting up and saying hello to them, but then she knew they were here to observe her...so did she stay professor driven or should she be professional...she decided on the professor part since that’s what she needed to focus on. She gave each of them a little wave and made a mental note to visit with them after the lesson

The professor stood up once it seemed the seats were all filled and walked towards the dry erase board at the front of the class. She smiled at the students and felt the usual butterflies in her stomach. After so many years of teaching, she still got them on the first lesson of the term.

“Welcome everyone to our first Muggle Studies class of the term. I want to remind you that this is a Muggle Studies classroom so please refrain from using magic in the classroom unless I specifically ask you to. I will use a few tricks along the way,” she said motioning up to the flags waving in the magic wind and then with a snap the music stopped in the background, ”to set the tone and decorations of the class, but overall we’ll try to stay away from magic in here on a regular basis.”

She turned towards the board and wrote out the word ‘VOTE’ in all capital letters and then turned back to the students, “As many of you have noticed and heard, we are having an important Hogwarts Board of Governors election this term. It is an exciting opportunity for us to vote for those individuals that will best represent us and make decisions for our school’s success and future,” she paused and let that sit in.

“Voters choose their leaders and in doing so give authority and legitimacy to government. The rights of citizens to vote and participate in periodic, democratic elections are internationally recognized human rights. They are also essential to a country’s peace and stability.
Achieving fair and free elections around the world has become a matter of concern for international organizations that promote peace and human rights.” she continued as she started pacing the stage a little bit.

She stopped in the middle of the stage and looked over the students knowing that some of them were probably already getting to tune her out, “There have been some pretty amazing elections over the years in both the Muggle and Wizarding Worlds. For instance, in 2000, the Muggle world had an election that rocked the world in the United States. It was full of controversy surrounding who had actually won the Presidential election and the country actually had to wait a few weeks before they even knew who the official President was...and this was all over what they called a hanging chad...so pretty much a piece of paper that was stuck to some ballots that were cast. Many times these elections are ridiculous no matter what Political Party you are in.” she paused again and walked towards the board and picked up her marker.

“But enough about that, can anyone share some examples of memorable elections from either the Muggle or Wizarding world that you can remember or have heard about? Remember we are be biased in this lesson so don’t be mean about other Political Parties. We are just talking about the Election and Voting process and not so much the different parties involved.” she said asking the students their first question...she held the marker ready to make notes on the board.

Now this seems like a very interesting question to start a muggle studies lesson. I am sure I am gonna like this class. Now for the question, I know....
Oichi raised her hand and responded, "I have cousin who lives in the US. She told me about their 2000 election in Florida that caused a stand still in the presidential election that lasted a week. It was crazy!", Oichi responded excitedly.

Jory tried to think of an election most people would be familiar with. But he didn't really know about any except one he read about that had taken place in the United States. He raised his hand.

"The Presidential Election in the US in the year 1960,'' the Puffer began. "It was one that was famous because all fifty of the country took part for the first time. The results came were close with John F Kennedy getting 49.7 percent of the votes and Richard Nixon 49.6 percent.''

Muggle Studies always gave Selina a really full stomach. This class was the most delicous class that she had in her class load. It was sort of a party every time that she had this class, which meant that she never bothered eating before she came. There was never any doubt that she wouldn't be eating. Food!

As she nommed on the food, the class started and Selina perked up almost automatically. She had to at least attempt to leave something about muggle culture. She had limited knowledge on the subject because, well, she grew up in the wizarding world. But what she found odd was that the first question addressed wizarding world voting as well. Um, okay? The seventh year could do that.

She rose her hand and answered cautiously, unsure as to why they were taking wizarding policy, "One election, professor, that is sort of famous is the election of Kingsley Shacklebolt to minister of magic. He was the head of reform after the Great War." He was sort of very important.

Her hair was being ruffled. Peyton's first reaction was to elbow the person doing that, but she heard Richard's voice and of course, the princess part. She glanced up at him, a big smile on her face. "Hi, Richard," she said with a mixture of a giggle. Hehe.

Oh? He was fixing her hair? Howcuuuuute! *___*

She let him do whatever it was to her hair, she knew he wouldn't make her look like a clown. He was nice. Yep. He was. Before he walked off, Peyton waved at him. Richardjustdidherhair!

She was quickly distracted when Seth blocked her view from Richard. "Hey..." He was in a good mood. Whyyy? Was he up to something? And he didn't tease her. Seth Aguirre was definitely up to something.

Interesting class? Peyton glanced around and shrugged. Maybe. She wasn't into politics unless people were voting for her to be ruler of the world.

Peyton was about to ask why he was in a good mood and WHAT had gotten him in a good mood and if he was going to eat his jello. It was yummy. And if he didn't want his then she would. But, Professor Cerulean began the lesson. Instead, Peyton gestured his jello with her green-gray eyes.

You gonna eat that?



Peyton turned her attention to the front of the classroom. She liked this professor so far. She called Peyton by her first name and didn't make her feel so old. Peyton took out her notepad and pretty new quill her dad had send her. It had her initials on it. Woot! Woot!

The snake stared, scribbled, and staaaared. She didn't know nothing about muggle politics. Okay, maybe not ANYTHING because her brother's family was involved in it...or something like that.

OH!

She may not get the entire gist of politics, but she had a story to share! Peyton raised her hand. "There was this voting election for Mayor some years ago in Massachusetts - I lived there some time - and my family helped with promoting and stuff." So she wasn't the best at politic-story-telling, but she was going with it. "Our party won." Of course they did! Johnathan's father was like, the best mayor ever!

It still amused her that wizards helped in muggle politics. Not that they used magic to help out. Her father was against cheating, unfortunately, and he wanted to do it the "muggle way". That, and it was his best friend, Mr. Walker, who was running for mayor, so her dad definitely didn't want to get him in trouble.

Messer turned his attention to Professor Cerulean when she started the lesson. They're talking about elections? He didn't really know much about Muggle Politics or just Politics in general. But he did remember about a muggle election when he still lived in Denmark.

The fourth year raised his hand up in the air. "When I still lived in Denmark, there's parliamentary election." He didn't know whether its a big news in other countries or not but its certainly a very big event for Danish people because he remembered his grandfather always talked about it over and over during that election time. "They hold the election was in order to elect the 179 members of the Danish parliament" he said. "And if I'm not mistaken only citizens on the national register are eligible to vote in this election." he quickly added.

Ella sat quietly, writing down notes and doodling on her parchment. The blonde didn't know too much about elections but she did think the whole idea of voting was pretty neat. They should have a great ice cream election here at Hogwarts and decide on a school flavor. Yeah, she'd totally vote for Oreo if that ever happened. Just saying.

As far as an election she could name from history, there was one she recalled hearing about. Raising her hand, the fifteen year old sat quietly until she was called on. "Professor, Artemisia Lufkin was the first witch to be elected Minister of Magic. She's got her own chocolate frog card and everything." So yeah, she was pretty important as far as Ells was concerned. You go, girl.

Alyssa thought of numerous muggle government elections she had heard of. But she remembered on that would always remain in her memory.

She raised her hand when no one else offered an answer and said. "The elections I remember is the US Presodential elections where a Senator from the State of Illinois, Barack Obama, became the first African American to be the President of the United States of American."

Christmas thought about the question and raised her hand and said "Well the election i remember is when Nicolas Sarkozy beat Jacques Chiraq to become prime minister of France and then he lost his position in 2012 when the opposition beat him"

Elections? How boring! Theodore was disappointed, since all of the lessons last term had been super AWESOME with all the superheroes and stuff. He'd even brought his cape in his bag JUST in case more of the awesome would commence.

OH well.

But he'd learnt the basics of elections from his muggle schools, so he raised his hand lazily, "Winston Churchill..." He said, thinking about his facts carefully, "... was elected as prime minster of the United Kingdom during the.... second world war." Yes, he'd learnt all about him in History classes. Not that he could recall any particular facts ABOUT the guy and his leadership.

He was actually surprised that no one else had mentioned him yet.

Or maybe he'd gotten the question wrong. Ehhhhh, not too bothered either way really. The third year's eyes drooped a little but he remained awake like a boss.

After taking a seat next to Anya, Milton dug into his colorful jiggly stuff. It was WEIRD. It was like, solid, but NOT solid because it was wiggly and jiggly. He had seriously never seen this stuff before. Was this muggle food? Or did his mom just shelter him from the jiggle all his life?

Milton spent the first couple minutes of the lecture poking his jello and watching it wiggle around. Until he heard:

Laura looked at the Professor and raised her hand. "Well the United Kingdom General Election of 2010 was very confusing as it resulted in a Hung Parliament and it took nearly a week for two parties to come to terms on an agreement so they could have a Government." Laura had heard about that and thought it had been funny.

Finally a class Ofim could answer questions in. Not only was he muggle born, he LOVED history.. and this kinda tied into that, right?

"Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the ONLY President of the United States to serve FOUR consecutive terms." he answered the Professor with a smile

Alex never really paid attention to politics, even when his own father stepfather was appointed to Minister of Magic. He had read a few things in the newspapers that his mother had pulled up from the basement when Alexander had first started working at the Ministry, so he could learn from the mistakes that old politicians had made and better his chances for a promotion. One story popped in to his head and he quickly raised his hand before he forgot it.

"I think this one time...in 2000, I believe it was, something happened in Florida during the US presidential election and they had to recount the ballots. It ended up in Bush winning the election and a lot of people said that if he hadn't gotten those extra votes, then the other guy, Al Gore, would have won," he said. That was how it had gone, right?

So surprize surprize, Lex actually noticed the entrances of both that RUDE woman and Vivi's mother. She would have done some kind of acknowledgement of the latter but 'cept...there was kool-aid and sooooo much sugar! Vivi's mum...suger...Vivi's mum...sugar--Yeah sugar won; it always did. Maybe she would give her a wave goodbye at the end of the class when all the sugar was gone but for now it was all that held her attention in it's various forms.

There was a slight scowl on her face when her indulging was interrupted by the beginning of the lesson and it was just as she'd feared; political talk! Politics was boooring and lame and a waste of time if you asked her. She didn't keep up with such things.

For a moment she thought to simply not listen but then she heard something that caught her attention. Her hand rose. "Does that mean we get to have a vote as well?" Wasn't it only grown ups who got to vote??? If not then she knew who got her vote; that lovely Mr. Vinteren who gave her a chocolate frog. NOTHING beat that.

But then she quieted down again because, well, not following up on politics meant not knowing about elections and other useless things that people seemed fixated on. It was stuuuuupid.

Oh skies and heavens above! How could she be late?! For the first class even!

Alice quickly made short way to class after over sleeping in her "special spot". Sprinting as fast her little legs could take her whilst eating a slice of toast that she had prepared before falling asleep in front of an interesting novel lent to her by one of the bigger girls in the dorm.

"Oh why, why today of all days, in the one class I might actually be good in!" she whined, harshly twisting the door knob and thrusting it open with, maybe, a little bit too much force.

Smooth. Alice could already feel her face just burn with different shades of red. Knees buckling beneath her. Really? She could've just been a normal student and simply and calmly push the door open. Now not only had she disrupted the class, was late beyond measure (in her head at least) but now she had a poo defenseless door knob in her hand, far away from it's home on the door.

"A-Ah!" she stuttered frantically, eyes shifting from the awkward gazes around the room (that once again she imagined) to the floor,"I-I'm so sorry to be late Ma'am! I, uh, um, o-overslept and um Ipromisethatit'llneverhappenagain!"

Before she could embarrass herself even more, Alice made a bee-line over to Alexa, taking the spot next to her, eyes only slightly moist from feeling like such a delinquent.

Seth nodded at Peyton's gesture. Of course she could eat the jello sitting in front of him! He didn't like eating sweets, didn't sit well with him. He gets extremely hyperactive, quite quickly.

Anyways focusing his attention back at the Professor he politely raised his hand. Before he didn't know much about muggle politics, but just to indulge the purpose of this lesson he had read several books about muggle American Presidents.

"The one I know about, through reading several books about. Is about the tall, honorable man, President Abraham Lincoln back in 1864. He won by a landslide against his opponent from the South, George B. McClellan." Seth replied, as yes he had brought that book with him. It was safe inside his backpack, along with many other books.
