| | Meet Your Manager Shortly before the Hogsmeade debate is to take place, all the assembled candidates receive a mysterious message to meet backstage. They're nervous enough as it is just trying to anticipate the questions that will soon be asked to them, but to add this extra meeting onto their worries?
The meeting had better be worth it. The truth is, you're all about to meet the campaign manager you have so generously been given by the Board of Elections. Don't worry, your manager will find you and will hopefully explain everything soon.
There are light refreshments, appetizers, and fun little drinks on various high tables spaced around backstage, so grab one and wait for someone important to approach you. |

Ivy yanked her hand back with the smallest of winces and clasped her hands in front of her. Ugh. She didn't want to talk to this man. "If you're supposed to be my manager, shouldn't you know the answer to that question?" This was ridiculous. Was it time to start yet? "I'm the man who accepted the task of dedicating my time to help you run a successful campaign." Which he might start wondering why he accepted the job if this woman continued to be as difficult as she was being now.
Oh he would do his thing alright, with or without her permission. "Let me start with giving you a little advice here. If you want the people to vote for you, you're going to need to change that attitude of yours just a little. Put on a smile, make the people like you." In other words, don't try to scare them away with those looks and that tone of voice.
Of course he knew things about her. "Yes, I know what I've read about you, but as I'm sure you well know, there is always more to the story. I want to get to know you, the real Ivy Knox, not just the woman I've read about in the papers." Looking around he noticed the others were still chatting. He then looked at his watch. He would have to get to know her more at a later time.
Almost time for the debate to start. "It appears to be time for you candidates to head for the platform. We can chat more later." Maybe she would lighten up a little once the debate was over.
One could only dream.

She was pregnant...didn't women like that have nausea problems of some sort? Good Merlin, she wouldn't go throwing up while she was up, would she?
Sigh. He would just hope she was one of the sensible ones who knew their limits. "Quite a surprize." He agreed, taking a sip of his own drink. "And I assure you that I'm prepared to do everything in my power to ensure you get a spot on the Board so we'll win." He said with a wink, not particularly caring who might have been listening. It didn't change anything. Winning was something he liked doing. Fact. It was something he was good at. Another fact. "And are you ready for the debate? Worked out the last minute nerves and all?" He officially cared. Well she had enough of this stuff, over indulging would not do her any good right now and her new manager was eying her like she was ingesting poison. For Merlin's sake, she was pregnant not sick. Honestly men just did not get it. He clearly had no idea who he was dealing with, but he was about to that was for sure. "You you better me. I do not like losing Mr.Black. I've only ever lost once and it made me very angry. I wasn't pregnant then but it will be worse now that I am. SO keep me happy won't you?" Her eyes twinkled brightly as she smiled at him then eyed her feet. Mhm they needed to get started before any swelling started in those bad boy heels she was wearing. "Last minute nerves?! Goodness. Maybe I need to give you my card. I do public speaking for a living Nathaniel. I can assure you that there are no last minute nerves to be worked out. I'm ready for this."

Show. Normal. Relatable. Likable. All very good things...just needed some severe fine tuning in the young man's case.
"Very well, Mr. Phillips," he nodded before venturing a glance around the room at everyone else. "Here is my concern, Mr. Phillips, with your overall image. Winning Mr. Congeniality won't get you a spot on the Board of Governors. You need to prove to everyone that you are more than just a pretty smile on a Wheaties box." Yes, he had seen that and even had a copy of the box cut out in his sweet sugarplum's Quidditch scrapbook. "You need to play to your strengths. So, what are your strengths?"
Pleeeeeeeease say public speaking was one of them. Carter nodded. Image was good. Which... was good. He'd always considered himself an all around likable guy. And quidditch helped out with the social and small talk aspects. So. Good in that department. Nice to know.
He chuckled lightly at the mention of the cereal box. Yeah... ... Carter was still excited to be on a BOX! Seriously. How cool was that?! "I'm great in front of people. I do well under pressure. I'm very good at talking." Extremely. He loved interviews. He'd been told that he was rather charming as well. Of course, he would never use that to describe himself. It was... weird. "So... should we... go on?" Did he know what the debate entailed? Oh. Probably. He did mention the attire. So it only made sense.

Ivy narrowed her eyes slightly. Yes, there was always more to the story. Was that supposed to mean something to her? Was he hinting at something? Or was she just being too suspicious. Ugh. She blamed Erik.
With another deep breath, Ivy tried to push her contentious thoughts to the back of her mind and get back into her debate mode. Her Board of Governors mode... There we go. After slipping her gloves off again, Ivy put on her best smile and looked at her so-called manager. Better? "Yes, later." Or never. Ivy flashed him a sweet smile, gave him a finger-wiggle wave and clicked her high heels away from him and towards the stage. Time to debate. |

Maybe I need to give you my card. I do public speaking for a living Nathaniel. I can assure you that there are no last minute nerves to be worked out. I'm ready for this." Of course he was very pleased when she decided to give the snacks a break. Normally he was all for women having a big appetite; it was their stomach, they could fill it however they wanted but this time it was a bit more complicated than that. She needed to limit all the variables in this situation. If there was a chance she could become ill because of the food then she needed to control the amount she indulged in. Didn't she know how these things worked? Feed the pregnant one and hope she couldn't continue. Did he need to review all this?
His eyebrow raised with intrigue. He wasn't sure but it almost sounded like a threat playing on those sassy lips of hers. It was a good thing he knew how to look pass those. Then there was the chance that she was simply being very honest and if that was the case he appreciated it because he liked honesty. It was so refreshing nowadays (your truths anyway, not his). He gave a chuckle. "That's good to know. I think we'll have no problem working together then. It's good that we had this little talk but I think you're all up so we'll finish this some other time." He said, gesturing for her to head off with the others towards the stage. It was time for her to look good while he gathered all he could about everyone else. Clean campaigns were good, but they were no fun.

That wasn't how the expression went, was it? Well, it was how it went but it was not applicable to this situation because Charles wanted Mr. Phillips to be anything but out.
That would be letting his little pumpkin pie down.
"GOOD to know," Charles replied while giving the young man a overly firm pat on the back. His hands stayed there for a moment while he gave the boy an encouraging shoulder rub. Wasn't that what coaches did to their players before a big match? Maybe?
See, this is why Charles had always stuck to studying and music. Athletics were not his thing.
"Oh yes, we probably should," he nodded, giving those duck floaties one more glance over. Let's just hope this kid's tongue does something to help that dumb jock image, shall we? "Good luck out there, kid," he said while still somewhat awkwardly massaging his shoulders. "Just because your smile may only win you Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile award doesn't mean it can't help you win over the crowd."
And with that Charles gave Mr. Phillips a firm push forward towards the stage. He would be watching...from somewhere. Maybe even wave a 'GO CARTER' flag or something from the audience.

With that level of trust now shown Warfield released Cooper from his grasp.
Taking a seat beside him, Warfield leaned forward. "It truly is an honor to help you Cooper, I can call you Cooper now yes?" He didn't give the man a chance to say no. "Well Cooper, let me say I've listened to almost all of your shows and with a voice as powerful as yours I'm sure we can bag you a spot on the Board." He eyed Cooper from his shaggy hair to the tips of his toes. "Your demeaner could use some work. You're built big, so you should look intimidating. If I didn't know you I wouldn't want to meet you in Knockturn Alley, but right now i'm more terrified of the Octopus Brooch you're wearing then youself." Seriously that was one scarey squid! "So as my first suggestion to you is sit straight, and don't look so nervous."
and that hair, It almost looked like he was just wearing a wig to cover up how horribly bald he was underneath it. Ooohh lookit that! Mr fancy pants was a strong man too.. Cooper didn't engage the man in a finger gripping shake. Nope. Not necessary.
It was all happening now, fast and... happening. Coops, didn't mind so much, he needed the help and Rockefeller was COOL. He'd simply nodded to his campaign manager, since he couldn't get a word in. Yep. Cooper was fine. Perfectly fine. Awesome in fact.
Feeling like a child in a candy store, Coops GRINNED as he learned that Rockefeller LISTENED to his shows. It meant a lot. He'd had been about to say something in response, but again, the man barely let him get a word in.
Before he knew it, he'd been looked up and down and told his demeanor could do with working on. WHAAAAAT?! Knockturn?! OCTOPUS?! ...
He was SCARED now. Was Rockefeller going to chop his hair? Coops had seen him eyeing it, and clearly not in admiration. As for not looking intimidating... well.. why couldn't he look FRIENDLY and APPROACHABLE. Those were good things, no? "Eerr... the hair stays..." he said clearly, sternly "...anything but the hair."
He did however, listen to the first two kernels of advice. Sit up straight, don't look nervous. Easily done. Right? RIGHT?!

He was complimenting her leadership skills. Now Lourdes knew that she actually had good impressions from her manager. That's what managers were supposed to do, actually, find the good of their candidate. They wouldn't like to emphasise on the bad qualities if they wanted their candidate to win, right? No, definitely not. "Why thank you," she said, liking the compliments she was receiving. She wasn't going to boast about them, no. Stay humble, that's what her mother had taught her since she was a child. "I appreciate what you've said." See? A good manager.
"Oh, I'm sorry," she apologised. Lourdes should really know the preferences of her manager if they were expected to be working together. "Cardiothoracic," the woman pondered for a while. "That's the thorax, yes? Includes the heart and lungs." She was kind of sure with her guess. Despite her being a sporty woman, she did have brains too. That's what some people thought she lacked, but really she managed to graduate and take NEWTs after her final year at Luxembourg. Then they went to Hogwarts houses. "I was a Gryffindor," she said and still was one at heart. "But I transferred to Luxembourg after my fourth year." In case that kind of information was still necessary. "What house were you from, Elric?" He preferred the use of first names, yes? Elric gave a laugh when Lourdes was starting to get a bit comfortable with talking to him and instead of being too formal about the conversation and whatnot, she's finally opening up to some stuff. That at least could make her feel less scared for the real event that is coming up in less than a few minutes. But Elric wouldn't want to tell her that, no. They're just starting to warm up and the more she semi-forgets about the debating, the more comfortable she would be--- which would also mean her confidence will still retain no matter what. "That's good" he looked at the blonde woman. "You're doing well" for a nervous person that is.
See? And now they're building a rapport. That feels great. Elric should keep the complimenting and questions flow out. It's better that way, she doesn't get too side-track with the whole things. As much as possible, Elric's goal is not to make her too nervous and too awkward for her preparations for the speech. "No, no need to to apologize" he nodded with a smile. "I don't like being called by my last name unless you're my patient" which she is not. Then Lourdes is now trying to link his muggle work into place. He let out a soft chuckle "And very smart too" he once again complimented the woman. Cardiothoracic does involve the heart and the chest. Point for this candidate then.
Elric took another sip from his beverage as their topic shifted to Hogwarts. Gryffindor, good. House of the lion. "I was in Ravenclaw" for the whole 7 years too. But before he could further ask Lourdes for more questions, the candidates are now asked to move to their positions for their debate slash questioning portion. Elric's job stops here but hopefully he helped more than he should have to Lourdes. He looked at her and gave her a smile "Goodluck, you'll do great" Elric encouraged her, she needed the encouragement. "Remember..." he added before Lourdes would leave "...beauty and brains always win"

That was pleasing and Lourdes did hang onto the hope that she was going to be doing well during the debate and the Q-and-A. Cross your fingers! Also he managed a laugh, too, and the woman translated this as a good sign of her progress. She was going to do well, and she believed so. She wouldn't let her more-experienced and fellow candidates take her down. It was only just a milestone in her experience. "Thank you, but I do hope that it maintains like this until the elections," she nodded. It was such a much-awaited event and who wouldn't be looking forward to it?
Lourdes sighed in relief. At least she didn't offend her manager. That would've broken a lot of things for her and the journey she is taking now. "I'll bear that in mind." For future references and in case it might slip off her mind. Then he complimented her again, and Lourdes was starting to believe in herself more. "Thank you, again," she said with a pleased smile. "I have been to Muggle hospitals, considering that I am half-and-half." In the event he didn't know that yet. See? Not all Quidditch players lacked brains.
Ravenclaw. "I see where you got your intellect," she said. That was the house of the creative and logical witches and wizards, if Lourdes was not mistaken. Sooner, all the candidates were being called on stage. She wasn't as nervous as before. Actually, she felt prepared. All she needed to sort out was the balance between truthful and intelligent answers. Not much of a problem though. "Yes, I'll take that into account," she nodded and gave her manager one last smile before finally leaving the backstage.

Of course he didn't think she would act a fool out there on the platform, in front of all those people. It still didn't hurt to be reminded of things though. "Just smile and answer the questions honestly." Hopefully that would be enough to keep her out of those tanks filled with water. "We'll talk more after the debate." Whether she liked it or not. He was not going to let her push him away.`He welcomed this challenge.
Once she had made it to the platform, Chandler went to find himself a seat with an up-close view of everything that was going to be happening. He didn't want to miss anything that was said by any of the candidates.

She was his manager to help with his campaign to be elected as a Hogwarts governor.
Seeing her summon her own glass of water reminded him that he had his own, so he took another sip. How did he feel about the debate? Hm... "I have to admit, I'm a bit nervous about it." Perhaps even more than just a bit. "I don't feel like I'm really the...'debating' type." He could be honest with her, right? If she knew his weaknesses, she could hopefully help him overcome them. And this was definitely an obstacle that needed to be overcome. Good. A firm hand shake was a good sign. Letting out a small giggle at the sound her name she winked. "Livia will do fine. Ms Frost is too formal and I expect that we well get to know each other during the course of the campaign so you might as well call me Livia." She was however going to say a definite no, no to any nicknames Atticus might come up with. Livia disliked those.
Taking another sip of water Livia listened as Atticus confessed to her that he was nervous and afraid that he wasn’t the 'debating' type. Was there a thing as a debate type? Livia smiled and said with as much reassurance as she could give a man she frankly didn't know very well at all except for what she had heard and read about him. "Just remember to not talk without thinking and to choose your words wisely and you’ll do fine." "I shall not keep you any longer since it’s high time for you to get up on the platform. Let's meet after the debate in say the three broomsticks and talk more then. Good luck Atticus!" Livia said as she drank up the last off her water. She needed to find herself a good seat for the debate so that she could observe her candidate in action.
